5 p. v1 _1 {1 rSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
8 w' B+ o4 Z1 w, X5 _5 uDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works- L: m8 ?- b4 {, r# _
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.! {, h8 w# e* g
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.4 C% E4 M% |5 i/ X* F
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.3 I0 g' n" H1 R8 y
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works* O/ _0 T$ P, w- c/ E9 x
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
) A0 U8 i4 G6 J5 ?6 x% [• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.2 `, l( a3 ?+ J1 e9 Y
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.! _! R- y5 B( m7 J6 O
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.* g( m, q* q, j `, ?; O
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.$ L% [; w. H* y0 r9 \' g9 b
• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.% c0 [' x+ C. J( g+ g7 r1 F0 J' M
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation- }: A8 g# X9 s
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
: _/ D7 D8 f9 e& F• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).5 z( O% Y+ r, u
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
& o* D% U3 `" l% S" {# ]* S, s• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.2 c1 y& ~3 q, l) ~; n
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.$ z) w1 `+ A P; i2 D
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.) w6 ~# y+ i/ V* ?1 a O
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.9 j" T, G' T1 M9 m- \+ |5 C
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

% g, L4 d4 u7 m- \# Z9 N6 l; V• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.8 t# l0 r5 H! A8 O
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
) E" i( k, w4 X$ R" |) v9 w• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment., X. Z" s: p, {( _% g7 D3 }
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
0 V \) f, J) T6 j8 l• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
5 F- M! a) p# {8 j r6 r/ P" y• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.4 `5 x$ E! _4 B5 W# ]6 t
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
; T) V, Q1 x: p: N. l# vHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.% f4 z/ o7 J K
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
