Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
* Y/ ]  f- u% |9 \- j; cDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
: @5 M, y4 H, E) X5 C•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

% z) C6 l( v1 L7 t  }•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
/ C8 `! y3 c. h: F8 W+ F. ^, _7 O•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
& r1 T6 o2 J0 r$ w0 m" J& d1 J•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
. Z- Y& f3 Y% H$ V0 C! l$ F•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
4 Y3 o5 y7 @7 |2 r' F2 u' v2 x•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
3 K3 u0 j# _5 D2 q: i; C- p& z•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
! ~  k% A( H/ e3 O$ x/ b•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
; Q8 E- x: u7 E. o. U) K% a) `5 [6 Y•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
9 Q4 m( I& S+ RRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
0 c, X% e0 H& Q& x) g' }/ E9 x•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
, ~# n+ f2 G! R" o0 m$ B  V•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
8 L* |" T% N7 F# p•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
. a. z! B( E$ M, |•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
" u2 C: ]) z7 X; o' S0 P•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
6 R: A; R. j& g. N5 z" a4 RFunctions of all positions:
: L% S& T  O6 l- |& s•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
, H7 }2 r7 L3 u& J8 I•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
  s, I" R  ~0 i3 L8 A•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
, u( {8 f9 ^5 K7 k, Y+ j. S•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
; c. b& y$ A4 k# ~, R•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
& S, j( I$ ]  b: c" V" c0 lHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
