5 l1 n4 \$ u+ w3 e; C# TSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
4 |( s# }$ F5 S- S4 l' a" gDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

* u' t' X; c  q6 R5 h) H•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
: P8 e9 R  R9 H2 H9 `3 F•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
/ f8 T2 {0 o( R& d•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
& p  P0 g0 |1 y$ `; n4 ?•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
7 U7 h( k3 M3 n- ?# h" f•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
% Q2 ?9 e  m6 z2 R% {, F4 d•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
7 K4 n5 ]1 t/ I: `9 o•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
/ }0 G( P- S- k9 R/ V5 ]  L9 r1 m•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
& B; p! u) N1 [9 L5 F8 W8 J  k! m* k" M•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
# c/ _$ k- a  |, l! w+ |$ T4 ?2 Q•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
, q8 M! D- y" g$ c* o* y1 i  X•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
" E& W4 K% b$ F: v/ R9 d4 p! S•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
% a$ X9 r( C/ T•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
" H7 l  s" P2 I: L% \•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
8 B2 Q9 {' t) W0 |. A' z, P$ LSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
