Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.! M4 U. t& W4 P# G$ ]( R# b( p
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
: @5 M, y4 H, E) X5 C• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

% z) C6 l( v1 L7 t }• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
/ C8 `! y3 c. h: F8 W+ F. ^, _7 O• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
& r1 T6 o2 J0 r$ w0 m" J& d1 J• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps." p/ a+ R2 P. [- R
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation

• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Job Requirements:0 h0 i( j/ X! F' m; H* o
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.2 q) x2 O. j* C' _/ `6 t* J
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.+ p' }2 V0 f% e( t1 p% g
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
s, I" R ~0 i3 L8 A• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
, u( {8 f9 ^5 K7 k, Y+ j. S• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.

• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
& S, j( I$ ] b: c" V" c0 lHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.# m J, V- H& b- M, S- U
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
