Police in Alberta say they suspect a Quebec-based organized crime group of installing wireless transmitters in debit keypads at a fast-food restaurant.

$ Q0 z: Y4 Y# P# c8 {* QDetective Fred Fiss said that sometime in February, the suspects got their hands on keypads from a Wendy's on the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton and replaced them with altered machines.

A Bluetooth chip inside the bogus pads then transmitted debit card information, including personal identification numbers, through wireless technology. The crime group then used the information to manufacture fake debit cards.

One arrest has been made in Quebec, but investigators say that they believe the person arrested was not one of the major players in the scam.

He said Wendy's staff were not involved in the fraud, noting the culprits may have broken into the restaurant to rig the scam.
