% X& v  y/ _- b　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.
+ M% \. [) D! {9 f& j
　　The Yellow River"s swift current

& r, h+ G! L8 P( R2 V　　Is stilled from end to end.
; p( L* o, s* o5 s0 o
　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
* w, y" d5 w& J  o3 ^
　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

% U8 P1 Q1 w( k$ w
　　Clad in white, adorned in red,
# Y$ Y' ]- |% ?# D
　　Grows more enchanting.

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

; _* E. Q7 h! D) U% u7 d% e2 q　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
9 z6 m' p" `" k0 f' K: L　　And Genghis Khan,
' G9 @; j8 J! g, y! O) @% c2 G& v$ r' q
　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

: j% y2 C( l) b. B  h　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　All are past and gone!

　　Look to this age alone.
