　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall
1 H5 }8 O  x- S9 Q$ J1 p
　　One single white immensity.
2 |5 y) U' C! v" J0 l4 r
4 }% G* W% x! A! p  Z9 k& `　　The Yellow River"s swift current

　　Is stilled from end to end.
; t2 m  a3 Y! ^  E
　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
0 a$ d( L# o! _9 p9 |7 A
　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

! {+ \+ @# r! L& j6 n) N4 h, M( P　　On a fine day, the land,

+ j7 t, |' O8 t# b( t4 k: U7 W; }　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

5 h+ `5 Q- C& Z% N/ Q; B　　Grows more enchanting.

0 R$ X7 z/ L  g. m$ f9 K　　This land so rich in beauty
  p+ _  H+ _4 G0 K4 k2 S( }* m7 ]
　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

1 \3 ^6 h7 B( ]0 B) U2 b$ O" b+ B/ h　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,
4 w, \# |, r+ Y% e3 d/ n
( K; d  Y, c/ e* Q5 o; C　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

% a5 a" l5 [- {7 x  [- {% V' G　　Had little poetry in their souls;
% A) \: ?1 c$ z2 B　　And Genghis Khan,
8 O8 @# k) z: b8 _. v
- F, `- N8 W$ t/ K　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
* I4 a( v! |  L6 M; ~8 ]
9 [2 E, m# C9 S# V, `　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

2 c/ A3 V! Z% c0 A. W　　All are past and gone!

　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
