美国人平时生活上所用的一些口头禅,其实字句都很简单,但是如果不加说明,往往还会让人一知半解或似懂非懂。下面所举的例子,即是常常听到的一些美语口头禅。' t0 k# c7 X) t# ~+ d- y  K# {
4 s: \) g+ `' T, c) X0 v4 |
        1. I couldn't care less.
6 U2 z0 ~) W  `' [
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: 8 O+ _0 K  k8 G: g6 c6 D
1 \8 W0 d8 V" l9 R7 ^& d- K
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
- c6 Y  ~' H' S& x
. v" K: a* e  t2 T  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
2 T- d* j3 q9 ]9 p( W, W9 {1 O  [
. g$ P8 N3 H3 p5 _  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
- K% ~% I% P6 W4 j* `& w  b/ J
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
. v+ M, n/ Y- ]# c4 Q5 _

8 i: K: m5 L' J# X4 P4 [9 h  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
9 L. n7 T3 f* M. Z1 g; q& l/ z
Yes, you do(care).
0 B5 N3 |. g/ ~, m5 `# e
; {; A2 p3 [4 R) r" X/ U  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: 6 x4 B  I; y$ p" M( n4 b$ N

  W5 u! V" J# A+ o3 @  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
% a) u: |$ T. T' ?# U+ h% }
$ }' x& \/ s( F0 T  b4 C  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
$ U/ P3 H. L3 X% Z- w( C7 A3 G0 e' @% y+ `
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. $ a1 d- C) s3 G
  j1 N8 a( `' |) G; T; r

/ |0 K) R0 B( O( q  I couldn't be more wrong. 1 a0 Y, w" _! k$ i

+ O4 }, j; g% T* i
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) ' x" q% H1 D5 C5 s" H+ A. S8 K
1 o) _0 k% y7 l8 h: s" P6 d
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 9 ^- v9 v# O  O( @" x- A8 {) M
! F- J) g9 B1 P2 V: y$ U4 n
  2. No bones about it.
2 s' f5 v% O  x4 p+ V8 Y
/ P. B  M3 P& u+ ]+ d$ q9 O, [  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: + u/ a3 \0 M9 w6 ^' c
9 j* I9 H, ?- ]4 G
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
. P3 x- |( A5 T* q
  P9 [, T& I# f2 \) U  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
$ l4 P% F- I" s! Y- X0 {- n7 o2 m1 b
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)   i9 P) T& z' t( d. j

. x, @" O" h* T4 O. c  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
# f4 E% B7 ]% j/ u  I% U
; O0 T! Z- W2 I& L  3. take it on me!
' F/ ]1 ^9 \& U5 k) _
2 ]1 F! m$ U0 Q8 r/ P/ A! W  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: 9 n" u, w3 J" `1 ?; J5 H, ^. M; J
* |) N0 C: E' f+ c& ~$ Z0 s
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 8 m  O+ x; ]. X$ o
3 J. i7 W7 S: G$ W1 K4 U1 Q0 n
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
; H" d/ a, I; W7 N1 u  {
, r% ?" o* ]; T  C  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) (也许铅笔上刻有名字,做为宣传之用而免费。) ' p" i( U% J: s6 P6 C
; A+ P+ J8 r% {
5 q3 q- V' A! i5 O1 N: S0 C7 n

$ Y9 V/ I$ X+ V  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 8 U! p" O3 A9 l& Q* Q

# p4 O7 P9 b7 k8 f  4. I am from Missouri. 6 C/ ]1 F' U$ O4 h, o
+ G+ i% U/ h2 e) t) i4 D/ K
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 6 M, k! F0 b' _. }( g- g* c/ X
: B' N7 H: @6 N
4 J2 t$ O+ ?. A5 g3 N& v( S, z1 K
  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
' o" g& e  L; _6 E# j. |. o2 E, c7 J7 p$ x
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) & X/ z3 O8 G% A$ j% R0 F
6 s9 |; X, a! k
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
7 Y. t9 X; _  O7 a, E+ f
# Q1 |3 v% q# S8 w  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
