# J" H% _! h4 l4 Y
3 R" o9 G2 f* @& l+ R        1. I couldn't care less. - g) x6 ^& k, y+ s

5 z; r! I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
3 _) P+ @! ]( d7 o0 f4 u
6 W6 n' ]( F! }* N  人家如果问: What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
$ W; C9 `2 q: Y( |' |& A
" c5 f7 _  _1 ~' f8 q  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) 8 `( O4 ~$ d' f
% \" Q: J$ W7 x4 o
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
2 T, Y5 Y  U  J4 X, F" S- ~% ~* l5 W1 v4 Z
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) * |* C0 b6 K2 r/ |7 L7 H' z
9 p$ d6 b/ d9 Y0 H# [' h
0 F- d+ o& J8 P) D4 J' @% ~$ u0 r  p
  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 2 a( z3 {/ v. l, t
/ W4 A& t5 O$ G7 W- l& \! q5 X
Yes, you do(care).
' q& Z% ^# ]7 Y7 u5 l* @2 `( c' L1 F6 t+ `: t$ s
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
! j4 C4 |5 D. H' |; R
7 H' G9 s, C' d! y" c' f  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
, g/ C- h  H: z  `7 a; ^
+ p2 p2 Z7 Q" Q6 n( L+ c9 S  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) ! ?+ W5 a7 `( A( n0 X% `' X- A/ r; ]

9 E9 m5 }5 ], i" I1 u" H7 }  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
8 U+ G, S/ |/ f2 x7 T0 E( i& I* U+ y" O) L! C, B2 ^* j" g
4 T% i3 ]; P) m% W$ M: o6 A5 U7 v" |/ t  X5 L. }
  I couldn't be more wrong.
: y5 E' R3 P. A$ ]* A, F, r5 ?, z( J  E, V) Z' {0 F9 o
0 F, `9 l3 `+ G% n. \$ ?2 {0 M
& a* n& m4 @) O( W  不过,严格来说,I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) $ K, A# O7 V" |7 p' ?

$ w6 z; W  o2 E7 J5 M, M  x  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) / p( y4 i0 i2 a' x
9 k& V5 R3 m2 {) p! q
  2. No bones about it. & z7 s( t1 B! @# m( }0 c" _
# b9 `2 m7 E& b5 k0 \; \
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
2 G; b) Q+ @. V0 ^' H  J; v% u+ v  C- B% ~- [  d
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
# \) x% g6 @; |4 x" K) R( v
' w- s6 u; r, _0 H3 Q7 d0 f. F  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) ' s2 O  L! j. t+ P! z
$ _( {& f( E( J* ~( Y
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
# h, ~: C2 r+ t; U  l& y) D! P0 i7 E/ m* c" l$ g! W0 m
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) 4 J3 T- Y7 U" ?9 S+ _7 n2 R6 b

8 ~0 F5 [. D6 K9 [: |( y6 t  3. take it on me!
" L$ X* t# E) a. E- B$ b
. L" t0 ~4 w6 t2 j  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: ! G2 ^2 \$ g6 ~; e+ B
+ E4 O2 t9 S5 n0 J( v+ e) p& d
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
9 t' |: l" W& u
( p- n7 X0 V5 s6 g! m% {! o' _" K5 O  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." (餐馆老板对我说:“尝尝我的甜点吧!”) 1 b, s( t* Q4 j( V, ]

+ w3 v4 T# t4 H: Q! p  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
l# d* E; \+ R4 L% g
- Z% c+ g0 ]2 i1 ]
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 6 Y' ~3 ~! O7 }

& E8 t9 f% G3 d. f) @4 W! v+ B  4. I am from Missouri.
( n9 d9 y6 w1 k) H9 Z
' X5 x: U( O: Q! Y7 r  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 / s9 v  ~- x8 w# x

7 P# c! ^, ~  n2 C2 q
0 |' q) o' M" |7 g# ]7 a# L  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. (他是来自密苏里州,所以不容易说服他。)
$ w, n. `7 v* S& r: E, s) p0 j
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) ( ~0 G6 k9 T5 h1 X* \
3 x% b( A; k& k
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. 3 X" k; v3 |, |$ d: o( `

) D9 b8 T3 |3 y9 b  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
