; X! x- T4 @' |( C- H- d/ \0 g1 h
, a4 e4 `0 ?1 G: a) u% I4 u/ v
        1. I couldn't care less.
9 ~. u+ E: V- M3 U5 P
1 g& c! I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
1 S! R% B" W" ?( Q8 _6 U6 {9 p' C' |
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) ) n9 x; b% d  I0 }2 w4 G

7 Y" i, I! y8 v( C% d 你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) 8 g( n, X4 w9 u1 B2 v8 [0 S) H5 ^1 _
; `4 n5 N) A" J) ?/ X( Q
How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
% L# G# h( |2 o6 X
( e: V% y" a- }+ e6 ]% ` I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
6 ^: h) U4 @$ \0 J& Z: r" w7 Y! K" G2 D7 A7 R" |* \

! {' N2 G( @8 k8 u I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) ; W, f5 S4 ]7 N. [7 E# `: i) `

# Y& `9 Q5 A; |- m7 L
3 X6 k- n! a4 a1 T+ I" K9 M9 }+ |: ~ 至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
0 f5 y7 ?- N( Z- Z8 j( F; @
) ^1 m3 m- x1 \ I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
2 F9 Y- @1 d7 O% T4 l1 E4 B; ]  k% E5 ^( k+ |
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) 5 ~% R7 B9 Y7 v% {  f4 b5 A

2 Q8 X1 ^9 w7 c: D I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. 2 P: N9 p' n5 a8 [+ E; {  I
  x" X1 I1 J/ y2 ]8 f+ v1 c% W
$ ]* B5 ?& Z% y- Q. |
! q# Y, {8 S! {& p8 A I couldn't be more wrong.
! r; E) m( V4 f' C4 M; m! X7 c! C4 C/ l% m
8 C& i, y" q! F2 ?/ q

+ p; C( c2 V9 Q* e 不过,严格来说,I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) ( e- \3 w8 E( K( o& V  O  h
( P" k9 X  T# D( m6 f4 m4 F
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) ( ^2 ^4 z% g) \5 P1 w( d
; m2 e) Z, e% ?5 K( P
  2. No bones about it. ! I$ i; ^$ d  Z# a

: c$ u* w: S; x 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: - i8 I9 P9 @8 I4 z

! V6 H6 b1 A  d! y: J2 X  K His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
% p) d8 a$ _" [, g4 l1 Y5 s* c' f9 B+ k5 `+ Q! _
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) ; N5 w% d7 @* }$ g! V& F5 G( k
/ s" f3 b0 z$ M/ n
When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
) b# b$ E: c. t2 }/ W) D  G$ n* W) z3 `" m6 n
No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
2 X+ \: k' L; r- e- N% Q: A- V
7 M1 R( A& v) u0 s 3. take it on me! . E6 H8 A/ Q/ _+ x- S! q
, p  d1 b0 m7 d% f! j" h
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: , [- @  L1 D7 e: n4 d# X( B$ P

9 G% L% m" x# k. R# B Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy)
9 l  d& W* g: |7 a. s. }- ~1 R% K  {: c' N' A5 y
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." % h% s( c" l! V8 ^
6 t6 P! t5 m3 W& ]5 a
Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
5 y' ?  D9 x; [% r& t. x8 _$ h3 E3 Q8 D( o/ x
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
0 [+ s! q+ {" f( S, _! U, N6 @
; t* D) [5 ?9 y 4. I am from Missouri.
+ O- N7 c% @6 w1 l( h5 T  Y
( J* a/ F9 b; l, @5 p5 Q 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 2 o% }6 C6 n6 A9 k/ V8 r

" f  L/ \  f% A+ A1 W2 \ 据说这句话所以流行 (尤其在美国中西部) 是因为美国一些名人都住过密苏里州,包括 Harry Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney 等。后来老外不轻易相信别人时,就使用这句话。(也有半开玩笑性质) 例如:   V6 U/ d* p1 I
/ m4 o7 S* l' v+ x
  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. , h, y6 t5 |2 a- c  I

6 I8 L. R3 W" G2 f/ J Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) (别愚弄我,我是来自密苏里州。) 6 V% E& E! ]# A; i% @1 J
4 _8 \9 U3 _  {+ {& {: h4 x
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. . B1 d* x, i% r0 p% r

1 X9 t+ G$ a& M As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
