q# s/ o* t6 O( q9 {1 x
# V; d- N/ J* x
        1. I couldn't care less.
3 [4 ]) C9 _. Q( e0 z6 a7 A( `, @9 B, {
  这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: 4 Q0 R+ S: G- y2 k- A" Q. }
* U$ W) p* R- k2 \9 U% U
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
, U+ ~& X1 x/ h4 a" }
9 e* r- G+ F/ P7 }5 t6 _  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
) {% T% q8 @+ E+ I
" }, Y: z7 w1 s1 Z# Q  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
% h* w8 i' J, a6 Z
9 l7 [2 s! f" s  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
* F) U5 q' h: V1 g" A* A  G6 b: g3 q3 B2 u5 L( }: v
3 H5 v8 _3 J) C. I6 `. O! Q
* o6 h; e) j/ [( }8 n0 T3 z  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 2 q* [$ P1 Y2 _# f. r3 ^, d
8 X" ]% I- ?" K( d7 \0 J" ^, Q/ R
Yes, you do(care). $ W& J# V5 n* W: V- m

& F. l; Y% R! `1 [$ ?  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
# |7 \0 h1 Z, O! G5 B' W6 \) z- X8 w# w% X
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) . f* S  ?/ N# P! K- B
8 v" }( S$ X0 x, U; v  f
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) ; i- B8 k0 H& g6 y
) z, z9 a# x' Y1 s+ L) w
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
' D2 ~3 s3 S# S/ ~9 N$ {6 W: ?, A8 @6 m. Z3 Y6 B
/ b+ _6 \2 z0 ^. `6 k% l: d
  I couldn't be more wrong. : h# ^9 g( o0 e; I% P9 f6 ?1 G
9 q- ^3 \) H3 a; K; ^
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) # j& s. C4 t( X! r& O" J8 M
" s  H  W; X2 J/ q/ o- R2 U
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) 7 C" t4 S( U* e8 P' U1 u

# {; m: F/ k5 l# b6 ~* ~2 ~  2. No bones about it.
- u- a  h7 \' b+ X/ I. O: q" C+ Y: L& g- ^* I8 p! f, ~! f( O
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: $ N" @8 Y0 }  `3 j& K( @/ }7 X

% b' e0 S6 x! C. {# d7 a; e" m  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) ' \; L+ P0 D& C! u

& k) N! B) j# U9 I- Y! n" G" i  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
9 \: U' d' x4 k0 B" b" F: B! L7 K7 N, i. x
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) ( R$ P& J* z4 Z( b9 F/ d# c
1 y7 d0 U$ ?4 `
  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) * Y! L" ]5 P. N! g/ ?) B' j

+ U+ O9 J; o4 m" m+ r" n5 n3 x  3. take it on me!
1 \; |1 g: ], x8 y3 g! M5 x" K
6 m9 ?6 Y% L* ?6 X% ]  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
' Q$ l* R# [5 ^4 F* a, J( G/ z3 e$ E" M4 r1 C9 |
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) 3 G/ q. _# \* j6 f6 E& C, S
& e/ d7 s; M* T2 s, [
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
- O5 i3 Z4 m4 o4 k  N- Y
, [$ F2 G: A# u6 Y  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
, r; D$ v$ [6 y
3 g- V( x# C" t0 ]* p  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。
$ z  G3 ]( E9 v  {6 F* |& ~" I% U. E# {* n% \! h5 P9 X( r8 r
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
6 u4 I" D+ p8 C" h4 h  ^2 y9 g( }4 g9 N7 h
  4. I am from Missouri. ) @1 b6 z; K7 h" R% n
! |+ M) j: q4 I0 ]5 D$ N4 p
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 ( B" k4 F0 [6 l' o) y. t

% O; G9 Y9 @/ _  M6 [; N- L& c
  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. 1 e" ?8 Z3 k+ J, ^0 v5 K/ l5 T
! \" w& M! Z% c5 U- W$ g
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) 8 R9 R  c! q4 g" K

' I3 H( U: K' ?! I' c  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. ! O' n9 `, e: ?( H( n! Z

- K0 m( G, K" ]; ~3 D  s/ C  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith先生是位倔强的人,他一定是来自密苏里州。)
