Do you happen to know any deals on the paving stones here in Edmonton?
Yes, I like the 1st one better, too. But if the 2nd one cost less I probably would choose 2nd one then. 3 l- }8 M! L2 {+ O, G# `5 hDo you know how much it would cost roughly? ! l# N9 k6 s5 R8 h8 x* g$ ?9 wThanks a lot!

If the 2nd one is more costly, I guess I will have to cover the back yard just in grass for now unless I win a lottery, because the 1st one is pretty expensive already.

I think you can DIY the first one, the slates don't have to be exactly flush with each other. If the thickness varies too much, just apply cement underneath the thinner ones to raise them. Fill the gaps in between with soil to grow grass or undercover plants, it will look great when the plants spread.
Thanks to you all for the information, sorry I could not access internet at home – too many chores, and taking care of little one.8 R) V, D- X# D. F {" U e

I typed the wrong word on 12th floor, I mean groundcovers, not undercover.

Yes I saw it. But it doesn't look as natural as shown in the above picture. However, it does seem to be more easier to install than the ones in the picture.

If I diy this, I won't bother with sand that's why I suggest the use of cement underneath the thinner ones to flush the uneven surfaces. Just re-level again when settlement plays its part years down the road.

If patio goes first, I would think less stepping on the turf is expected., anyway, hot summer is not the best time of the year to lay sod.
