Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

0 t) L' @9 p# ]0 R4 znow inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
9 i# ~0 ~- U, cmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution
0 b' d; j- Q, Wwithin a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color, y7 ~" @3 |/ V# `0 }( N+ Q' H
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance$ Y- N( i" i' n7 t8 c9 c
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800. g1 L9 u3 u: H
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject
0 X* e( J `' g* a% {6 Xwithout having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography1 m8 v! F# P) J/ [; G, ^3 E% o) P
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum
, [5 g8 F$ K: X1 O6 v2 g7 r7 Oimage quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was8 v" f* O3 Z9 f
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and$ P- q' X" v9 T# |! T( k
convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown
+ E% t. h& n" Z6 Y4 vbefore, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised, y/ f! i1 m4 E. N7 A
thanks to the D800.
% P+ ?% N8 A! k& R# xWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,
( Q* }1 `: z+ ?: o4 w z36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
& A7 z2 u! J4 {8 c; }; S! {) nrange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
' J& d+ t1 A- k& Vthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
; q* P g5 f8 j+ A! J4 p% \, jD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
+ W) T+ h& Y; v6 V. @$ c8 Mwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
6 k; C; Y" c+ L9 ?Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor0 K7 Z n! L- t; J
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
& y/ l0 g7 z2 Q* O" leasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
/ q* |, L' I; y, `* xalso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
: q) o5 [# N3 d l3 \) Q* Kcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
}& @. d7 `( Rin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality

To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
" Q$ P# [, ^2 s1 g7 R+ o8 |not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models9 {# i4 l0 ~8 d/ a, g
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
H5 }4 d& C vcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first+ |+ k4 L: y/ v9 D$ |; L
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws! ~" m3 q. |( n! P( f
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
+ ]. o6 s6 C# m" p6 N- N& Racuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I7 C$ _. C! m. L7 B! o
am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as+ S0 f: \( e8 l( i
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
; c9 @0 v$ G5 ~: gphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add
M9 s; g. c. ctremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
) t$ l6 X3 z5 t7 eD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express. [1 @* \5 k( j3 q, ]
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.
' L9 V8 m( x( Z$ T4 C; KAs a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,1 A: g+ W9 ~# x! H$ f! n+ b g
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal/ d- z3 O# K4 O0 S5 x
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for6 a9 ^/ ^0 F/ a& y' Z
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital2 U* V$ |- I E$ z/ p h. G& ]

now. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions) p' C* Z8 N" ]/ w( N: A3 h
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
3 u u r( Z" `4 u, Cquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
$ f' M' w- m+ F4 L/ r7 f+ X: w- barchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
! c* v2 A! ]8 s0 h% N6 P/ u% {perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly6 ?! |# p0 t% q; V5 ]
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
, Y) N3 w P+ F9 X. Q% ?to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional2 p( E* u2 ]# S2 Q" O
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
