it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:

2 x2 J+ p' s! ?if you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size.

( Z" t L* t6 v$ u; O2 T0 p" j* ^2 Zthe cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly. * k/ Y! Z% l1 d7 g( K7 ^) G
: a3 b3 w _) ]the solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)/ ?9 m5 D& y.
