it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:

if you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size. 0 m% S5 n. j# u2 `3 X2 e
. ^3 v3 @; J6 Y0 k- ?) U& i8 Kthe cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly.

# U- b# ~7 P" }2 l& W( m6 m+ V, x- L0 Athe solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)! ~; Y. i/ |. _/ p1 y
9 s- ~" x% ^( H( x7 y) |1 `the band (ring itself) can be found in white gold 14K or 18K. typically, the better the diamond, the better band it comes with. ie <$5000 ring usually comes with a 14K band but >$5000 ring will come with a 18K band.
