Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

: e+ q; M. O; {/ y) g5 ~7 T7 uThey are also responsible for other important tasks, including:



Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
1 w4 s( Q' X( Z. }  w/ dOperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
' H$ t/ ?7 ~4 }5 W& a+ ADiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned

9 X5 i5 C; W7 IFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

2 R7 a- z$ U( |; p) W4 aPhysical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations
Working shifts, sometimes away from home
) Q( E4 ~$ a2 h" ?Basic technical knowledge of diesel
! f: F7 M! w# f/ y1 oWelding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
' E7 i8 M" R2 g: V' I$ nMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
Visual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
