( x4 @4 t% w$ Q3 x; Z' [Roles and Functions' ?$ n- n; u9 E; @6 n `4 V
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. s8 U! \+ g) s
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the" V8 v! M7 v: p3 W! M T; `
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) U% A2 i" s( R% H) H( H
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,, J5 h6 B6 V+ X F3 I
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular) B% X! q8 r# V3 X
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is m# r/ Z# t z( J
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
1 W5 l9 _! G# T+ Q7 A, cemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires; Q) z; A5 \4 Z3 _
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend2 `( C& h+ Q/ s
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.4 t7 e7 _" o- e$ A4 D5 Z! g
" p& j( t* ^9 ^4 a9 j( y" e9 B# yFunctions and responsibilities:
' P5 r* h" t8 I5 |* w; sThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:$ U R, @/ t2 R8 G- k. k) E
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the7 c/ p0 f3 ?" T9 ^1 ?# C3 j4 a- {1 Q6 V
officers of the Coalition; ?1 l/ w( F9 X" z
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural1 u: I" s8 Y1 |9 u
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations t! y& }9 X; P# P: H" P( S2 q
and public institutions S+ c9 i- }2 ]1 X
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through) d8 P8 j2 ~; [6 _2 e$ o5 G# B" Z) N
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
: ~& n! @3 h' m4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community: v: O& Z8 |2 ?! M/ ^
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

* ^0 ~; f6 L4 {3 j6 P2 ^5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:
& o+ m* W8 b2 b7 ^9 h( B$ a& t1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 w: i1 Z7 k) k6 A; `, a1 Uregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
4 }$ d. M1 a' V$ Y7 \7 x+ O: ?directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
! o( q# }0 p6 Y( `5 l. ~4 O* }members of the Coalition’s financial condition., ?: e. K7 I: L A0 z4 K, U
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
: Y7 J# L" X$ A5 b0 ~Multicultural Coalition- T& v$ a* R; Y# K2 I* A
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board: e9 u" D% ^- q$ J
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
1 Q3 @/ c5 u1 s; {0 B8 x) yimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
: u0 `8 Q ^' r0 C1 P: M+ roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility./ z- A! x. j& |( {9 `
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
+ ~- H# n: I9 saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should$ R) b0 K i' b% G1 f& \
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
7 V4 K! | v7 L$ M* xparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and9 ?; d$ W& ]6 G# n9 m/ f2 D
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of$ X1 h: r- C; U* \% s5 F- |. N
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
4 I t4 ^' j3 ]- W9 A/ o; Bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 h4 ?# I4 n) _0 s
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" G+ y7 Q3 n& a1 {3 S
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of7 k* B; ]# L) X: V
policies already adopted$ }* f9 I3 a8 e6 n1 x$ t% `
