Roles and Functions
% q$ m! A @; i$ l2 E( [The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
& I k! s4 G2 ~; K( _organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( ~( M! A1 Z! {/ N3 q7 f: ooperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) A* ~0 C6 m' b2 f* U/ b/ L: G9 @
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,# ?9 C4 C9 k0 _
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
7 s- q* H9 j; y/ U+ r* [2 Pboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
3 A) J0 s) P+ ?+ H" T' s% C3 \conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
: c, e& w6 z8 g, Memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ W; d4 x% d6 Gstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
" G0 S5 }, S8 K' i) Oall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant. m! ?6 R' N7 T3 m9 ~* a

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
/ l3 q! I* B8 t9 E1 i1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 h. G8 C4 a4 y
officers of the Coalition- o" z# R# j& _6 a& r/ c
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
! x. W5 x. |4 e' @% \- @5 Corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations" A" c6 x, ?! }1 z$ P
and public institutions; i& N# N n6 {# U$ L
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& \, f5 N3 [, @* I) ^! S/ e+ vfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ U3 U+ Y" ~; u( n
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community7 b3 w% c0 Z6 T" E
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with' D6 E- r* n! u5 z/ T# |7 p

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:3 F$ E- U* l& }1 ^1 Y3 ^
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
3 I1 e# ?/ q/ j: `2 b# x; p" J# iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of+ m0 _& [9 R# n! q1 ~
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the6 p; \& o5 _; ~' a
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.9 A% n, V! j' B) f4 I$ h& U
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# _6 D4 J3 j5 ?

, K( b! `+ G4 J8 z+ U, x* E3 l, j; uAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! H6 s% X, s5 @0 A5 u$ N
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating+ X- C; Z5 p3 P. i2 y+ l
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.) [& o K* W- g' ^
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
: P1 F4 v3 C; Z- Y, Yaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- U- J0 K8 w2 a: |1 u
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
8 k0 d7 `- L: n' f. ]* E# z* rparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and5 p `1 @6 l9 T( v# ]/ x$ f
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
: }1 c4 @9 F& c7 A: T0 W- Y! M9 kdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
% G7 m2 A. I# [/ ?0 L9 V* Astatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
7 `1 Y4 s. G% X" `# q6 M4 Cmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
4 g6 c6 w, s8 t' H: o* l" f, tdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

Pay Range & Terms
