The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition/ P7 m. D$ ~; N g$ g4 t
Roles and Functions
# @ g. t2 M% `* o% O% C. DThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
( W1 H& n- o7 X' v, p8 B W8 Borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
" f7 _3 J6 e1 f$ h- Yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 K" x, o$ O' s6 s; q! _6 Uthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,$ s6 c4 m1 z" @1 F; t+ s5 H
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
. F0 c) P: ^7 E' D6 Rboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% I: b3 C! B7 L7 ~0 C$ h7 {
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
' F' ^6 `9 L& ]employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires+ q9 t( K; y2 j, |2 e8 o" o7 o- q7 k1 e
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' U1 X( k+ m: Y0 i
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

officers of the Coalition

/ e9 @$ T% g" \$ M6 Oorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations6 q. b' [. v+ q6 ]; S/ ?
and public institutions
( v( A- x. F- a7 \) {% L3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its! Q& Y3 N3 r& u% }; P$ n0 I* m
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
: L8 Q" F& h# B: ~8 tdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the

2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the- M, x ]2 _* C: Q

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board% K j# N8 M0 R# S$ U; T3 D
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to7 h$ A% U) R% C0 T6 A
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
2 D( ?( F$ X" \ \8 Woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
% Z( P4 k7 M3 y7 xThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 i" T; R* L) ` y' |- P; I& E$ | w, ]
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
8 ?) p3 P" q, Z& {- w; wbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
' x5 L! T; P" @, _8 I/ C- y4 k3 Jparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
: r1 T" Q1 Y o: r7 Qfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
a* h9 N$ W/ S7 pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial1 x4 v. z" v& Q- [" x7 z) y3 ?/ }
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all; q* U1 B6 F: B, d" @1 [( U" S' F
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
