The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition9 J; J. T4 J2 H, X5 ?/ D9 t4 h+ D
Roles and Functions% L+ K' N. B8 y6 f! [4 b& q0 L
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
, @" y. z6 i/ Z8 iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 t# L8 l$ `% \/ ~- P6 C0 e0 Eoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
/ K7 c% t; X) _) l/ _- |$ Nthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
+ t' Z8 X" L' ~ E! T& k* N0 K8 B) qoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
' E& ?* O' t% ?' ^8 I w2 L/ e' J4 ^board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% B7 A- p! f0 G0 ?4 D, E) R+ \conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an V7 i, A9 o' @
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 E0 l% M& A3 B+ l
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' a. Y# A: p3 o& {" k$ X- M; t0 ^
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.% q5 q1 T# X, |0 G s$ g

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
0 ?3 _+ @8 q3 ]( m1 sofficers of the Coalition
. x4 ]& ]) R- [) j- h7 r) M, x! z2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
6 V* D' I) G8 B3 |' F3 O; Qorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations6 I0 I5 p2 @* \! F3 o$ o
and public institutions! Y3 z+ r# }& k+ `0 }/ x
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through D" V% J8 Y, B! h
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
% b U1 E4 H1 n3 L$ M/ ^0 u/ u( |4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community. W3 J9 j# U( ?: }# O# \
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with: i5 o" ]3 @' o6 q* c

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community1 S5 s* M' h u# U9 {. s2 R

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working' |6 o+ U( `) l; f! x' p
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically& d' r# Y) }1 }# h; u& m9 [4 U4 P

Administrative responsibilities:
+ D- n- }0 a5 Z) \* O! S% L7 v7 ]9 l- ^1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 v6 s ^/ M& a* t8 i: h# sregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of" I# e% G% e8 ?
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the6 X8 ?( f2 a8 U* L/ R5 y+ l5 w
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.8 w7 R! _/ e/ }4 V4 Z% Y) q+ z Q
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the1 I2 r1 q0 _; Q$ v

: S1 B1 e e VRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
5 A3 i- o3 N' F+ d: }: x4 E9 N0 d7 G& ?All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to3 D; K& A$ t) O9 h! M
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 U2 V [/ Q1 @" r) j% qoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
) m" o" ^ V* ~4 TThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and% [# w+ W8 R' C2 T
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should: S4 |$ p3 c+ t# I, [; ~
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
1 n% A- Y. u# u* |participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
1 Q- f% ~/ t4 U7 Q" F6 q" ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of6 K; X/ x. Y$ h
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial( j% x3 E4 J( K* ` ?$ s4 M
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all. h' o; P& o& A' b5 `
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: B+ K6 H0 x1 _# o4 T0 o7 m
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of4 `. D' F2 T2 U0 _" g! {
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
