8 x* D. W0 b4 f, Y& R. gRoles and Functions
7 `: W3 r) }# K* g7 JThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ d# C' o+ S, f7 ?7 l% v& B# y
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 _# m' k* F$ \7 l4 J6 }
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) Q# W" A# r) z
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
5 e# }( @* a3 l/ hoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular* E& v8 r# v$ R4 p! M# |# X6 A
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
. `: D, {$ H3 p+ U( Uconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
1 f. l! A0 }' ~5 }- Cemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
1 D0 q3 Y3 n( `staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
5 }5 m9 {. t( H Iall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 N. r2 M" K" m) g x1 S

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:. A6 a5 ]# n7 ~& R
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the/ u% }! S5 _* C5 F* o4 M' s
officers of the Coalition& M3 f! R6 z$ o. d
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
$ N% [5 p! o3 n o: c, uorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations* H* O' C2 Z# @6 {6 S, e8 M/ s
and public institutions6 ~9 S" q+ J& Z2 |' d1 [3 |1 I
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through6 _ A8 p- ]0 J, |2 P; S
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
% T9 h3 J8 Z& P& F/ `7 D- K4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 K9 f6 k$ f5 J" p& m# n
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

Administrative responsibilities:
' D1 B5 u* s W2 n% v. Z1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 q! _" P8 w4 ~1 R9 c1 sregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
+ ?5 A- ~2 S0 K: |* |directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the f/ P9 a$ c. X# H0 I
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' A/ |' u+ @3 ]+ P2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 U7 `6 M0 b8 J8 n

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board0 B& K3 B8 y1 c" f: c K
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! Q' @& m: a- P. j1 x
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating' K. E1 n& n. O4 f% {$ L
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility./ h& Q* D; }9 m# v& k
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! n" y t. N. s; t% t5 Kaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should& y1 C# j0 t5 x7 ?* R5 b6 |3 h3 L
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
\- ?. ~; t5 z8 @+ p) p, G$ U/ c vparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
9 c* n# i8 t- ]& u: }facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 _" b# q: U# }3 R3 M6 z6 }0 q/ cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial4 R; y6 G$ R9 X( ^0 Q2 U
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 ~2 V2 z% b' U2 D d3 L' dmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
! W$ U" m. E6 J y- edirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
