The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* w& c' `# b, O1 \1 e. W
Roles and Functions8 j# {4 M- ?! k# B( e( k$ j/ L& ]
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
. A9 t3 \- C, B# P% R: Iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
% e6 V7 W. \8 |; U8 c6 T+ Eoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 P9 k: R0 `* e4 Gthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 e1 g8 a0 [6 f# y" n
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
% i' Q# z4 Y4 D! u5 V. s1 F* Rboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
L0 L0 f4 k! y& W& x/ h8 Jconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
9 V8 l" U8 \- R7 |employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
- g5 F0 S( t9 i+ {4 F7 R" |, Astaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. F9 Z7 P: f4 W6 S2 Z
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
- T/ @/ p* J% x% L4 j1 _) m1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

) o% a/ T# T" P$ n6 H: C* _+ K7 E/ o2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ b7 A; g+ y& o+ korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
6 u4 D! P/ L8 o7 m% b0 ?8 Zand public institutions
+ o* w+ M! u# L% Z& H; b+ J3 _3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 u$ Y7 ]; ~! r, [
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives4 H5 U& |6 N, ?$ ^4 F& q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 E# R4 n, }+ p( qorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

5 k, y9 E9 O0 m+ u5 K* J, \+ \0 L1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its

! x1 V' S+ v+ Xdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the

2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to2 s# n5 I/ y& K) Z) B i. F( Y# F9 @
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating+ x l2 ?" D) A! w. f5 @
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.' C7 j8 o9 {6 W$ c k0 l+ N
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and8 i: b5 x% n+ v% s: s0 H
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
# ~" J3 k1 M# C# d2 k: Lbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 _, J2 }0 w- O2 Q1 _8 S J9 X
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and \. @4 Z) {; K& F) U( P
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of. W9 n5 c: a7 K/ r R7 u% P8 k# t3 |. [
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial) R7 H& f1 I, h! Z1 i
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all8 t* A/ \- ^! Q& D
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
