5 ]8 r: r' r/ E5 CRoles and Functions
7 {) `* M. L5 WThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the, p" i0 }7 [- q
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the! R& b% t2 y" C6 _# U2 [
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
; s) [- l7 u0 x0 m O2 X% e& X0 ythe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,! B: l: C5 m% F \1 z3 W5 s+ B
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
8 }) M8 o+ B# m8 G; J) ^board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
4 Y* x+ L7 V0 } H! U' @, {- kconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
, o; l: e( Q$ D d! ~: L/ _) semployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
5 P. t5 ]7 E0 Y; i1 F' ~7 U* Bstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. A; v$ _; j- ? ^ a
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

9 D# M% u+ G m5 ~1 [) y1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
0 h2 `9 x0 i" i W! u: [0 \2 D* K+ _officers of the Coalition
0 \$ F# b% s$ N3 B& C3 U: e2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
' v( C0 e, J. X& s! T+ Q' D, corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
' Y9 w T: s8 G2 P2 Dand public institutions
8 d% b4 f/ V: l3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ [, y% B( r. C8 |funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives! D V1 e% x" I- h
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
* }. m. C* E& [* E( Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:
$ z# O/ g: v' {7 E1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
V) R$ l2 }1 {regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of* r6 B o4 v) w) t6 G, g% s
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the0 T* x6 P: z; P5 n* p U
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.+ w* [5 x w" l- m
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the5 w- v1 F L# x, I2 y/ }% i

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 v+ }6 k+ t' f9 ?
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to6 G6 a% Y7 D( g, ^# f9 c9 V" }4 |
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating4 F2 f) P. H& ?6 F, c- x
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
& s. l3 H" b& I) }The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' y8 Q: ?- B3 ?
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should n& N5 Y5 c1 [" y# f6 D" |# n( j* H- y5 \
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: ], Y G5 `2 f: n, oparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
7 E9 ^* ]! s2 ^! W3 q1 N- g+ {facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- ^6 c0 [1 J- @' V( Q. P: k# c
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* W/ a* V. ^' \0 \8 B9 cstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
6 u( H8 ] f+ V4 k2 a# d6 k, Q7 v/ Umatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
