The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ i) T- u( G; i/ G8 hRoles and Functions" `9 ]* X: b' E) d% v+ w
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
2 \7 { A. N8 J6 h0 Q. Iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the! ?, j1 H7 A" X
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
" u! ~6 b6 ?! l6 n7 jthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,& }9 O! A, g' n; h3 L
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
" ~1 G4 \: P: Y) i5 M+ N% qboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is i' E. g- w, |& r" y7 w
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an3 c" N/ W. b6 |
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
8 x5 K2 Z" @4 c8 Bstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
( C( p0 h# P ^all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.% Z% K5 _5 G5 E+ p* p5 q

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
# g5 Y& v5 a) ~1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
4 x! c$ o+ p% {6 W5 D Vofficers of the Coalition
: M) j1 ?+ k' w; `: F9 N2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural: V4 d/ v5 T t7 |
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations6 e# N5 P. R* |2 f6 D" Q6 x. m' L
and public institutions& g* W6 [9 b, d; o& w& p$ W
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through# ]4 S3 Y2 t9 p$ Z, J, J
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives9 \' w5 x# e; g+ `
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community1 `1 o t% H t
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
* Z# @1 u' ?' Rthese organizations9 @( @0 |3 @% b* F% Y( f
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community- D H1 ^- X& F6 }; ]
leaders0 Q' z6 n! ^9 I" G3 z) I
6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
- J9 m" r% ]1 ^% p9 }% u1 Iparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

! P) p4 x: l3 z g7 L3 ]' fAdministrative responsibilities:
3 O6 r7 h" v$ y& }9 E. X) N1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
2 C& i) c8 k1 t/ M+ b+ Aregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
- ~$ \' E* d6 wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
0 ^2 n- I, O6 u6 amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.* L4 m! Y# ~2 R3 u+ @9 L7 M/ V- H1 r2 L
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the ~# t% y2 e2 |" z6 z% }% V

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board2 z# _+ F; p- G- `. s. X
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to% i8 y8 d9 {! p) ], ~
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 d- j8 o( X K; |
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility., n: i; \& o% A, u
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
5 N( A/ r: V a% N+ P. naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
5 z) A* m6 b+ y1 E% S+ D) q! fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
1 B ]* f! p7 _2 Xparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 T" L8 d+ f9 o. z& d9 `% ]
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
3 E. a* O! I8 W* j! z$ Rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial0 R( h1 ^1 P3 n0 h6 d- ~7 S
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 B3 D1 D" K( N3 O7 l9 [matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: c; C' X; B! W P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: j4 C4 V$ V. }1 s/ n; N: q
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with p: F8 S" c* z- u; R- c* S
possible extension depending on funding.
