The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition: d$ L. ^2 h9 ]) U3 V
Roles and Functions
9 g+ e: D- _- g$ Z; j) y: SThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ p# r" s/ }# N. |* I2 d1 D; Z5 ]9 D4 forganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the0 h* V: d' Z$ Y+ ~% ?8 d& B
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
2 Q) P0 W2 ~7 N& d" Kthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 V. l2 \9 _% i2 o0 e+ h4 m _4 {9 toperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular2 Q& h# l4 C2 K: p: J6 ~" A/ `0 z
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is5 C& u+ f5 n0 ]+ E! t8 @; |! H
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 ^& s" v/ P6 i8 Semployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ R( t! o+ A H" Y# P: Qstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend" M1 r$ F9 I I8 t/ m4 I
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

. z9 O( j/ s! N& j5 U' RThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
1 i: L2 ^8 Q! O1 g# H M1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the: [% r6 ^0 u9 R
officers of the Coalition
! _& l( ~ j: v# o- F$ ]2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
: G3 l% ^3 P3 m Jorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 _4 `8 s0 s* m" Z+ _4 G9 _& Jand public institutions
- }$ P) E1 n; i! j- @0 ^9 \3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through3 c( x0 g/ L3 m
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
7 t' ?! ^. J& c- z) F4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
1 n- L+ S3 p6 |! H" j1 W9 aorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with% t0 m) N- m, k4 `; L

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

, l- p% X9 z5 K1 F( s& `Administrative responsibilities:
1 ~& ?2 R$ U4 Z1 \0 B) \0 d1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
# I! ]: m) D3 u+ P6 ?) iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
, _8 J: g- o$ Q B- ^/ Ldirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! l0 Q! U0 P) i+ |# D0 m; F
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, V6 m6 A i7 z" F" @7 M2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 z- L& f" k8 _/ [! l/ P& m
Multicultural Coalition
+ W$ |( D1 i: G) }0 u" M: kRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
% z2 H6 m/ |" ?( n; o7 R1 RAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 J, u3 D) @/ G) |4 ^2 Pimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
7 C* d& @1 P4 c2 o1 loperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ D9 @! ]$ f9 m! T5 k0 uThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and% s/ j; E4 O, a( ]2 \5 C
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should9 \& h& T! B5 W! @: ]$ x0 A
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( N+ T+ }/ g) a4 y) t# Iparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
) d: L+ w4 U2 _: m9 a2 @facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
# ~* d% r1 i" Edirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial% d$ `3 h/ B+ o9 H, j, \9 ]" i; J
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 K9 x% I9 f+ X
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of) i) Y+ N. t2 e
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of& T+ f1 [7 }1 L+ i& q2 h |

community level

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with: z( W: k/ V" w: K+ z
possible extension depending on funding.
