7 A2 {' t1 i5 r+ A" TRoles and Functions
0 `3 c; e. Q4 T; r% ^The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the3 r% d- X+ V! r- X; M" X5 W
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the4 X' L; P3 V- N: z' u5 N0 [* L; p+ L
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
" O* L5 c: X/ {the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 `' w, M7 r, `2 q1 r
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 ~' C: m- I7 j v3 A1 u
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
O- W" |, E1 I8 K2 b6 [4 `conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ T c% Y9 X1 V- j2 w* x+ Iemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
* Y1 F; Z; A3 f6 {; h' _staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' h* N, L l. x* Y! Z6 \: d. c
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.& ?$ J. ?# U1 `8 i, G% p6 U3 h

Functions and responsibilities:

, g- [8 ]* E: ~ a: j2 @1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
7 v7 I n: `3 v1 f! g* D. R7 `! norganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations& x4 q1 n$ y3 A" |( D
and public institutions7 g7 O9 b$ f5 D( ^
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 \. y' m8 s: ]( X) Dfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives. Y+ ~+ j( i3 e4 F
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community2 k2 Y; N* W" k6 U
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working5 s/ |! ^! v! l# f0 ?
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically6 V/ C+ A1 Y9 I$ v1 ?) }
diverse backgrounds( W7 ?5 T% v0 [* W0 H9 L- U

Administrative responsibilities:+ |0 G9 Z0 i4 z8 Q2 M+ c1 n7 |4 k
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- r1 H% E2 ]: Z
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
' g9 D v2 x8 i5 Q4 G- u6 j' a# p( s$ V; sdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the" b( w( G1 z' X" w/ Q' e$ B
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
9 H0 J) T2 Z4 T) {2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. w5 W% T1 f' g5 l: p

0 r" ^: M! `1 e2 h. RRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board: e' @+ J6 c0 c5 j+ U I0 i
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 m. t) q Y" k# {, yimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
& |* Y# ^ e$ C5 }operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
3 k( o" B3 p' CThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 J4 }5 F. o* O$ m2 Eaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: F4 @0 C0 T: ^6 u* Dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
9 G/ R1 z# R* [# Q/ pparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
" V& F. y* r7 {1 A3 R: M) ?5 [" Cfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of. C# n6 \% M4 R {
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
$ U) Q7 z2 u( Z9 C: pstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
$ ?. O! P; j3 c+ ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 s+ V" H/ @7 R0 T4 R* k/ K. ~: g
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of$ }. k9 W. L" {! `
