The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
% f+ Z' i7 ~" A* C8 TRoles and Functions
4 P) J% S0 A, s( a+ k5 eThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
3 \2 ?+ h0 a& Forganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
2 A. Q z/ Z' I& zoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( T' J+ k1 E3 r$ G; L! M; L M: Ethe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,# _+ T; B$ l9 Z, [. B' ?
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 |; a7 e. A. c& p3 jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
0 F1 I% @4 A0 q* C# J3 @conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an# N! M# O J$ z5 h# \4 r1 d
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires& a# }* c, X( s) W& w
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 D5 o) X9 v1 _
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
5 u2 Q0 ^, ^$ v& F* B1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" f! @% y9 s8 W! P7 pofficers of the Coalition/ ?3 Y" q" Y1 D$ j; y
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
M' ~% P- j8 H0 Q2 _organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations! f& u- R9 {7 P# I; o
and public institutions$ U" A5 a# P7 E* [! G
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. C$ A. |; ~- B" H* C, }8 [6 Z- ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
- W4 [" \9 A N& J3 W4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. }' }+ [* u! ^ f1 ?* t$ Lorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. g( t1 h6 i# ~. ~

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
" L- [8 ]$ X5 P* lregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of: J& j I& x+ b0 W2 L& w! f* Z. Q
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' r Y4 g! q+ B" U' @( H8 Qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
- f: v" O' F* ?9 \# p2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the/ X: }: p" X9 A

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
: p H0 y. ^/ q" r' UAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to6 G! L) {- d! }4 o7 _- x
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
7 W5 P5 G5 w8 M. Toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
+ a& J8 T" P. l' S& M9 F* R* ?3 e& KThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 r' C& A+ Y% l0 d9 A4 y5 w( P
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should2 W, U. M9 R3 ~" X
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! e7 \/ I3 Z" {+ f: } [
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
, O; k1 D) |) E9 w2 e' _facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
' S# F! U! D( r3 p. M1 Tdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial' W; t9 b- c7 D
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all! W8 O; l# T# m# m" P; Q
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
; Z0 ` `& I/ a" T( T3 r8 zdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of4 v |. n# m5 F7 {
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

Pay Range & Terms

possible extension depending on funding.
