Roles and Functions
8 W" u0 j! `' a- CThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
+ n+ c% ~ q1 P N5 J# torganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
, }% U- n$ T$ N, ^6 doperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
& O/ d# Y% W/ \. f T, Y/ nthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,) q2 D% ~! i9 l8 B: t, a
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular. D& ]2 Y- @; l9 v4 P$ r) V
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
6 H% S D2 Y) f% T T. M4 Xconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an G, v& o0 s$ `' D2 B4 D
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires Z& N3 N/ w {* W% s; o ~5 k3 R3 F6 m' _
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
9 h! v- a1 e+ C# E s9 M( Call board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

7 m( T& Q. K& F6 n9 \2 s1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( }4 t5 x6 N+ s+ |0 k8 D! ]

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
* K9 \* G0 E" Corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
: [ I W+ }. s* A7 Dand public institutions2 \- S8 I- q0 h3 \ p0 z
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
u+ M8 @# |( v6 m) y) W* {% |funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ `" N% E* O. n5 S1 m H- P! U
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community( b _1 n- T) |' t' Y
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 ]' L% T7 {0 Z+ Y8 j

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
3 W; y, d, U3 Q! W* K% `1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
- l. d( [& H+ I) q; Bregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 Q5 `- I7 n; X& e, q' u9 i/ l
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# F% S0 Y( t9 O0 L: j* W( wmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
4 F; u; i8 K' F3 u, r, k: W6 p2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the5 P* p }" F R: D4 \2 y

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
% p2 X% D4 O6 b5 }) C4 rimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ r+ ]) v0 O( _5 Ooperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ k* _- O; m5 i5 K# ZThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ ~3 ~0 l7 z: U Z% jaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should( V% _5 [ Z& V+ s! o7 I( j
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
# E) B7 x( ~& @participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
, l1 V" Y+ ]& B F. r% Pfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of* [) i9 @4 U" l& l$ }
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) z* }7 Z' P) A E. gstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all! Y7 l; `0 w% Y5 z
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
" F3 l8 | U; j2 [( |directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of) v3 ?% K+ U9 n. I' _8 b- ?
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
