The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* o- Y# M7 \) @
Roles and Functions8 a$ }1 }5 x* m# z+ \' ]
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ F7 }+ S7 Y1 e% s* t8 R# Borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( w% F- e# \- u; \+ E. koperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has0 u# D5 J0 o( y# P( {; [$ g8 V
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,. k# f; g9 a. w5 l( w
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& ^' j( f2 {' u3 \4 j# o
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
3 ?' D U' D1 r1 L+ b; zconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 E; A2 E( c! i9 p( r0 ^. d( V
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires1 }! d! t" }; z& l7 X8 t
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
2 k; T1 w+ F! J$ Tall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.+ o2 w7 [( p: p
1 x; k4 V d B; C0 i0 `Functions and responsibilities:
* x& n# L3 V4 PThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' M& F ]3 M/ D6 U& Y& ^0 m' r/ P1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

* W6 A. P4 X" a3 ]2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural0 O. ^9 s0 N2 V4 n
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations

3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
" A: W$ ~3 ^" [0 ]funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ @: z" g- i2 k6 Z- ^
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community P. r" i0 r; Y3 a; h( [
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with& T2 G3 `1 L: P) m3 g$ E. d& i

Administrative responsibilities:
! d: }: m# Y* o) \1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
$ k& t% M% Z% E0 _regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of* E1 I a( F' v. B0 q2 z, Q
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
. ~( E6 h/ w% I/ A0 R1 s# d. qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ W7 }% D+ Z$ H. {' i" \0 e% [" X2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the1 Q2 Q) C* g$ r3 _* i

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
d+ ~. C6 {6 a8 p& hAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to, [- m, E- d" N" D$ e3 J
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
5 T% j; V; b+ Roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
4 X$ y% O1 d6 C8 [2 v% B, @The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
; x. j# b/ d e; l) _) n0 eaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- k9 K( D0 B# E4 [1 Z' E4 T. _0 R
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# {. z2 i! n/ ~, X6 R% K0 Y9 F) g
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
1 ~0 M: ~2 z# \+ O3 ~5 Sfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
7 \8 k% \% r6 t6 l3 ]9 }+ H# hdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial( H, C+ `1 F: Z3 c7 Y) o- p
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all0 D6 k% E+ O( K+ E% g& S
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of1 @ [" L; b' l/ `. l4 W
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of; z+ L v% `9 p7 }6 D1 M
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

Pay Range & Terms
