The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition9 L/ g( k* L1 ^
Roles and Functions
- H0 T# k( I9 i6 |8 wThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
& X/ X" k5 G# F$ Vorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the; `, }& l ~/ A, s+ ^3 |3 z: m$ x. D
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
, [! g0 F9 \2 k/ v$ e& {% u+ mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,' ~3 u& Q: v- K6 Y# F3 s+ n
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: |1 [1 `2 m8 ]8 b. t4 m: N oboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
- Q3 j! }. U0 z! s" b/ ?conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: g+ r' z# I& D0 a! O
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
* _/ Y& S, ]4 D( Y; mstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! P' i4 y8 G% ?
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.- d0 S: U2 j* t, y. n$ R) q( W

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:1 S) ~1 r2 X6 ?5 n7 t4 M
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
, _+ U7 x+ e* K- h+ p. `officers of the Coalition
) z5 y5 k7 a5 `/ C8 z. t2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; M5 l2 v% B9 Q; b& ~
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
# k/ X, N$ f8 \+ F( Qand public institutions
- N3 D9 H5 G+ t' w9 o1 m3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through) f* \$ r$ b' R. R+ ~; \/ v
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
7 r8 [3 }" S& b8 U- m! R W5 i4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community3 g2 S T8 @' R. y# G; f; r! Z
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic' I! a; _' J0 B

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working, F- L% t7 t* a8 D/ l" R6 @1 ^5 {
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically* M, A0 q# N) }4 Y
diverse backgrounds

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its1 U, j+ M0 R5 P t" s
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 p* l% q9 h! R" r. n% x; q. b6 Bdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the: p5 C+ r. k. d& D
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.. ^" X- g- R+ _. |3 B0 j& [! l
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
! U! C% x7 _; X% p, n# i3 b, e! l- S+ UMulticultural Coalition
' y- w& S% e& G7 J: E4 NRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board; c& o. b3 B( B& U
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to" v2 g+ Y- _/ @- Y) w6 }$ y J+ d: \1 d
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
: F- L' A7 C) z, D# Voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
2 J' w1 Q! a. z2 e% g0 T9 dThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
$ L, h$ a1 D( X7 waims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
7 `- J! a! L9 n" ]. X7 s- h, S; Jbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
* h6 x' K9 P6 O- s9 [participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
; I2 o4 W9 c! u& `- z; gfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of) }: a" ~" o$ {+ W) e# z# B7 y
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 [/ j5 N1 |! o1 R3 V; D3 J, Ustatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all% y1 t9 Q P5 l' {& J2 ~: s
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of! p# t8 ~, w& U. P+ P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
