The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* R, {3 Q- f1 }+ B: n+ }3 ]; @
Roles and Functions
) _# m" B) B" R( y, ?3 X7 fThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
6 Y" Y/ f* e6 ^& E5 L5 T. R$ horganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 b8 w: k" x A6 Z& t$ j3 G% ]
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ e7 j! z- t- P2 C- R" J' @# Q/ h' ^
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
3 G7 F0 ~5 s1 G, c4 G) zoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular% {4 ^& X4 r& y$ ^
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# U% f: W; m4 v5 `4 Pconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* F s( e% e7 [
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 L& s; [' s, V1 z+ I0 E" Ustaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
* P+ J; A, f: v$ u/ W3 Kall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

officers of the Coalition
$ g3 [! p: x7 r7 h- Z- A( `2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
# E L2 a, ~/ c4 ^' N8 v( Korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( `1 k' s" {* h* v S
and public institutions
- [' {" Z5 {$ k7 G: p1 a: l" {; L3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through$ O0 H9 w) ?5 V8 ?0 D2 a
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives- S, [/ G5 V8 A$ N+ z
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community a6 D, ]8 ^$ y/ n. G
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community5 i; }4 A5 ^/ _: H# ~* z# x! p

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:
* q% o8 a+ r$ A8 m, G7 ?" p1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its3 }. |! B: B/ f; g0 G
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 C3 e/ R: ?2 k
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ |* [" ~2 n2 j" D* ymembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ R% @$ F" K; B0 n9 H
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# T2 `; T. p8 f4 d$ s' ]" D

/ ~. k, f8 h5 I4 ~0 s- c0 M$ vRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
2 C5 `+ r. t+ y- I$ hAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to5 t& ?# o* z0 V
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ w8 S2 |$ Z0 v: J) M% toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
! f& w j, c( W) m+ C8 nThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and3 o9 G6 w9 V) [! a! V
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) G: Y( b4 u- y) E1 P
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 }6 q6 j& j1 m$ I1 a0 V
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" q6 t9 K4 z( |+ o+ b: V
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of; }2 Q! h' G6 X7 n! t
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
& Z+ i: [6 h5 M; i8 s7 Bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
+ o+ \ v0 S. \+ p% _, Pmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of% P5 p# k1 e6 m
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: s1 D# q1 K# H! S5 _1 p6 t0 e
