Roles and Functions
' V5 v* Q- `: P8 I9 X7 }* T8 FThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the V; h3 z0 }4 p# j& i8 p! K
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the) G4 C( [9 i& I! ^. j
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has2 v% D1 W% ~2 [# n/ E$ e
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
5 f* j L0 K( w/ doperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
& [5 ^) \9 w4 D" jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is& A' c/ k+ z- M0 o. R. Y
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! k. ?4 u* ^; M4 c6 temployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ H; { x9 F+ E! V+ k5 m ustaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
6 b* A7 R7 o' f2 R; D# ^all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant. `5 d L( V3 p: O, V9 ]$ k

Functions and responsibilities:9 `6 a0 j4 n8 N& ?. I% C! x
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% f' R% }( ?6 ]7 }
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
( c/ U1 R7 {, O2 k) B# P% Z; {& gofficers of the Coalition
8 u- w; d8 G$ r4 p6 H( `6 R6 Z2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; Q5 m' o' k$ Z; n$ D4 O
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations- e% O- ^; u7 G1 J z
and public institutions: t/ r# m/ Y, \* o/ y5 Z0 b
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through& O% E$ h6 ?+ T, v9 u) D
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives: G# t( d6 r! p
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
@! c* Y, B1 Corganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. A( f& v8 p$ X/ b/ N2 a8 y

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

diverse backgrounds

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
. |" d) J; U/ Z3 u* k/ s4 Yregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
- ?! X* u7 \- {" o# j. ydirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
$ O/ H3 f/ U4 }4 t! s( Kmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ V4 E r/ J+ l( G. E5 w( S3 n2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the) |* R+ y, k2 Z1 Q {- r& V8 R

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
# N7 m! ~+ M/ E( W7 [5 FAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
M. B/ r$ J9 p3 G0 jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
' P6 B+ z o1 X, j3 |4 |; woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 ^: q. [: N! U2 Q6 d: K
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 H" i2 p' K: q4 F" O- R7 i+ }
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should, {1 o l! n) t1 \. r' V
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. b) A9 d. T4 \participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and8 ~- s/ X2 l/ U3 T0 U/ {2 K
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 X& z! t! f6 x! [; _& ~directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial6 v7 h3 }9 r+ s5 p! d6 O
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
) T# g7 v2 h9 Cmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
# a" `$ z3 ~1 v1 U2 z3 O" ]2 Cdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of" M- H$ d4 G) J5 u8 U1 i/ n
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding
