The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition7 ~% Q9 e: g8 ^' @
Roles and Functions
7 A- T: v" O9 Z" A1 H ]' |3 U& TThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* E3 o2 g* X/ r" i" N* S0 [organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ n, A& E) e, F* l" m
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
0 l# f a: _/ B5 i8 t, G4 fthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 [) b/ b& P% ?4 e
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular+ b- l' \$ n {( u1 M7 N. }, }5 {0 Y
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is5 |- n* p! C+ F: f1 e/ p; Q
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ B' X3 q& o2 ?1 |5 x7 ^9 Nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:

officers of the Coalition" V$ g0 E) x# f6 j3 }. R" U
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
; X! f! L1 x6 o& J' U8 Jorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( U! `1 ]; f1 L" B( y+ e
and public institutions$ A7 d$ A8 B) V! X/ v# X
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
7 L# _0 Y) k5 C" Tfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives

organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
; e' N3 u, w' \. O, c1 ^participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:# ]( t/ B0 t' [% I+ i5 I9 R! s6 A
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
% P2 H2 ~# C1 q, S+ e$ R+ xregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 U: E, x5 X; i: i6 V( h {
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
9 F7 f) E4 }" h7 Omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
1 O* ?) t5 m$ H$ G, L$ ]2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the! |3 A0 ?) h6 h* g

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board8 H; t* e6 P% M- t5 E6 k8 K$ }# T
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
) h7 N0 \+ u% Q; F9 ?, o0 a9 F& limplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
& J5 d, M O3 `- o+ M" aoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
) J4 v( j8 U: H* L: J8 \The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
% X! \/ X9 ^7 G* L; z. Baims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ x! ^. I% p, b0 Obe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership3 V# O/ Y3 n0 A8 v: a) o
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! |* c' n( W7 \ ~1 a: w
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of5 N* A4 A4 d; ~) q( [
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial6 L( n9 o3 @ A* j
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all/ c! z/ N+ ]! l- d6 f5 u& W* d
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of, P& w! a( f5 e7 |* w8 u
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of( Q+ N( R* {* w! S5 c' k
policies already adopted/ E5 w) E/ M( z5 D1 l, s

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding
