1 z! Y7 e) `. }8 IRoles and Functions
( x. \: u% B5 S# v( |0 R. [$ M- qThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
' R/ j' l- E U1 Oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ M. i5 O& e8 S8 d2 m
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
: d; h7 u. n) T' ythe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' Y& } D; z! \, o F- uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular! U Y* D$ V0 q" E; V
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" O" g' m+ l; }. ] V/ ~conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! H* C; j; R9 nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 D0 q3 h2 [) S8 {. m" t+ l
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# L5 [: w: g mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 D- C& S( W" o! V2 ]
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the) e* F. {3 q% e6 @( O1 |2 D& B
officers of the Coalition
4 j' L. L6 u- w9 [3 w8 I5 }2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 ]+ v* u2 _' J# N z2 D e1 Z5 }3 s
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
5 b8 H) {* Z2 g; H! f* \and public institutions
# m9 S# O2 x) e7 i" `3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through5 B% @) Q, n" g4 P3 F" {
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
9 ~% L# I6 S) n1 y4 N( ]. W4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community3 S/ Z4 {# d5 O9 n" u/ f2 R
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

leaders

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically" w+ \3 ?+ u7 U. C

Administrative responsibilities:4 G8 [4 L0 ^% a% H+ P3 S
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 Y& d0 F* h9 R9 x5 g$ fregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of* n O* u1 x% _, {" C& a9 w
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
5 w. U8 M6 d2 C% R. s! B: cmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
Y+ h, Z" R" A! Z8 V) t- g2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the; @; C4 m( B$ b$ r/ u9 L

0 B: u% D- `/ F" }" zRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
8 P8 E6 v- w! r) kAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to) R; k* Y, S+ k
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; k6 Q L# i, }operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
. S8 W9 B1 d' X. Q2 ^5 ^% n C7 BThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
5 E0 t* \0 Z, i! \8 Yaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
$ V! q: F' M' d! J8 z6 _- N) c& Sbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership, V4 Y) o' N+ v# r0 z
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and& l/ w& _8 h3 \% z Q: s+ K! V
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
+ |4 `+ ^9 X1 E7 o& }) q, Mdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial& r8 u+ ~. L% t2 ^4 G7 N8 T
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all. V7 m" Y; ^. p8 A( }8 s: H
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ _( n) _2 f+ y2 a
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
