The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition! n ]- B6 ^* {
Roles and Functions/ C! y% t6 U k" ^% Q& t
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
. I# S5 A- f# s, Z# m: oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! p" B+ b9 ?2 c9 R b6 c) h3 ]8 Soperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 t; Y0 Z+ n% m' Bthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
/ Q: y7 L, t2 zoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
! q7 ^& k4 Y8 c2 fboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
, `$ A/ Y" H: {6 @$ q, J0 {conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an _7 q$ E! T Y0 j3 @
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
- N0 c2 E# c4 r6 t: E8 Dstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
9 ?5 m* W p2 O: h5 c3 ]0 Kall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

/ i$ K. z+ n( e( @4 D& s0 vFunctions and responsibilities:* F* q4 N* K* D. `) b
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:- s. V$ x: Y- L4 n3 h4 X
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
& M' G( H- t4 v) {officers of the Coalition
Z- @+ r' E, s2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
" I+ }7 E& j- I7 Q0 H$ `organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
2 C/ L9 |1 u, ~5 o; D+ band public institutions
9 `9 x) C3 h( f& r7 }+ W3 b& M3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 [# \3 e' _' ifunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives! {1 _2 ]) d7 j3 ~6 G
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 _' b( U6 O; _, Y! o! B0 }organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

% H: r Z5 y5 O& O5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community$ v+ @: w. l* p, E F, R# i* V

! @. o7 Z @: ]0 ]6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
- I, X$ @. h4 pparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

1 x, K z0 _( B# H/ o$ nwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:8 t$ q% ?" n& a% A
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& v- E- K: [, e$ w2 K$ n
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
6 f, ~3 o2 }! C/ w3 m. Z# ndirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
Z! y+ L+ L4 q% B5 Zmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
6 B( I( F8 j* r# }* o2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
( g m1 X) G2 E( y! ]Multicultural Coalition" L6 L9 a0 X. p$ Y! A
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
) B4 L' |* E) Z9 YAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
& j4 j! F$ V! h! U# Z+ pimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating! M7 e$ |# e. `
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.5 f9 F) w8 O0 P! X* u
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# M" Q# X0 j C( Gaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should8 \) G+ s3 l- o5 f3 o/ _
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership+ e+ A8 j: a8 K5 T5 j4 [# b
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and4 B/ Y0 e) @+ T2 B/ M
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 ~6 Y; u( |) X2 b+ N( O6 Hdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) I# o6 E) J+ h5 u1 K9 w* Zstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
7 E- b/ d% i8 P; ematters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- y) E- K [- V7 ]! L! N9 ?directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
- Z( k& `$ g' @2 G0 Fpolicies already adopted: b1 |7 E) ^6 L

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
