The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the0 J6 s/ x/ v9 q- D& {# x/ E! w; s2 o
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
4 x! g) B* F& W- A5 \( Doperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has# m" ~; h; h6 K0 g9 b9 @
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 z, G6 ^7 l H0 m6 M2 Q3 O& f7 Uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 w$ x4 [$ ~ O: Y9 R; b9 Mboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is3 u# @: @0 y- x) `
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
: J1 z; I6 G! p8 x/ T$ R. Hemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires& t6 J% X$ d. O
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
8 `! u4 S5 f1 p3 H3 Z, G; Mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.3 Y/ E" O" O* f, ]+ ]; L, C" d

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
J! _% u# d* {6 N6 \0 A1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 c- x1 L4 d3 t4 E% J
officers of the Coalition4 e6 F5 ~$ f, l6 r
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
& c' t8 M+ [' c0 x o$ corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
0 X9 K& C% r) j8 I& jand public institutions
( d: ?7 ~/ D, e2 a5 W* l0 a3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through( `" X) f1 C2 w4 e, @7 P1 T
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
# ~0 m2 _6 p- N4 c. z4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
& }' D7 i+ _1 u* Zorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

Administrative responsibilities:
) x3 v6 h8 j2 ?. l" H1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
* N+ ?: r: p d& Z( eregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
. d% x7 S( P( B/ m$ ]directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the0 i& d. c2 x" V$ |. Q9 z; h" y
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.. o6 q6 N9 _1 y
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" l l; a+ E, I' hMulticultural Coalition- i. U( @- t! E. ~/ r+ c
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board1 C: e, b2 N G- J2 D2 k
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
@' r* b o3 o# E* y* R" H! C# {/ \implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating! e) y* W5 t F% |
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 e/ K |+ K3 N7 A6 LThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 H" {9 ]% N2 I( K
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% D! ?1 c* l3 Q7 B- Zbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 w9 ]! ?, Q0 H: g! `3 j
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" s) X, y) @8 ?: d* X
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! L# D* r: b+ @. Odirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
: M( [7 k) n! F3 f3 @$ C6 f; a# Ostatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
+ ~5 Z2 ~- T6 s) z) J/ Fmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- ]9 c1 r7 |! c7 x! ~7 b
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of9 F1 r4 Y) |0 r& A

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
