0 l" U, o& z, Q& j( S3 iRoles and Functions
+ X: |3 @; ^3 g1 MThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: Z1 b" c+ \+ D, Yorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
3 L6 J: E0 f! A8 i% Yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& k3 ~" w" ^; A1 G* B* n _" X
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
" Q- U6 R1 |9 E+ A2 }operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
~3 D; v) [ J5 m8 k# T, zboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is$ `( l( W" J5 P2 F2 q. y
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 O5 c z0 }+ P& [# g8 `1 y& c" N; nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# Z: ]. g# _7 p3 Lstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend H& j2 x. v4 p D* s
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 T5 s* l8 _! B$ t. L, X

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
?, f: r# B c8 f3 y% S& |( f2 R1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

& y5 j E7 Y5 k2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural5 j w! x( [, l' n& [- X! c
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
6 D! y7 A; i) |$ z" { l3 n3 d Pand public institutions5 y4 j+ p4 p2 e( R: H
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 `- V# r w( p+ y/ o, L
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives! S$ S& R$ h0 O
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community) W3 @/ K1 S8 _ X* q$ e
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with9 a0 r/ Q" p; ]5 X" Z/ X

Administrative responsibilities:
1 K) d, g9 v9 p: \1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 |, H$ a3 X& h! Y% h& N4 s# B9 y( v. ~
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of) c: |$ x2 V0 r h( n1 h5 V
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
/ Z% R: e3 H4 h: kmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' N6 l( t0 _' y- f/ i. J2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

9 M# w0 f: H. d2 pRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 A" b5 Q+ r8 OAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
# r. Z, s7 J1 ]' C8 s% cimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating3 g R7 a, y# @# j
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 m% I+ w5 i+ z# y
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ B; ~& l& w' o, x9 X. A; paims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should% {/ J+ N2 X6 Y7 F
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
, x$ x+ e3 D9 ~0 q. s* G% e$ dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ S, h$ l& w2 l9 x) }5 w: I9 w8 H
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 e" m3 y7 Y: \# ^* l. ?2 v1 Q5 sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial5 F7 S v4 ^3 {; @; y9 k+ h2 p" i
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all- \0 j1 a5 l# ?, h ^3 ~
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of% W) b( y Z+ r; R* g0 \
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of; V$ m4 ]6 X5 j5 d6 ]1 z I9 ~
