0 \! z" V: u1 [( W. x0 VRoles and Functions
+ ]; n7 M0 h; J+ f1 rThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
1 U3 @ E( Q4 P* Korganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
0 F8 V% D0 s2 X# w' j$ ^operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has2 I7 B$ G4 ]8 I$ ~. \: j
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
# o) F. u- f, Koperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
0 T. e; q: T, O) Pboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is( d. n, d4 j1 G
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 [" z6 C# ?2 X- A' [' T
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ [$ f# i [" p( Jstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 T2 Z8 {4 M( p. P4 | u" z
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.6 o' M! b3 U6 q5 w8 P5 G$ e0 F( R

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' C, [+ w7 j! y+ n1 V1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
; L# u8 b. h" A4 rofficers of the Coalition
% I a2 H+ X, k/ J- I( S$ h0 q2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
3 [2 C1 ` c7 \: I. |5 Morganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 W6 l; E$ m1 i5 Y: O( ?) B; T
and public institutions
3 ]& a' V7 J4 H% m$ {3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& u+ d( R, D/ c5 \1 y: P! Vfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
) J2 _) x+ i2 S. l0 s4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
7 ~/ t6 y8 f! n7 @. z* x9 f) R5 ~3 korganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its$ `; h" S* v1 G3 ]( D3 O
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of( w7 P' C) c7 n
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
) @: a9 k) V9 |. k: i L9 |# Tmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
+ u& D6 C8 L- I7 e- c, w* Y% ^: T2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the! |& b; p% l( M* w

" w) W% q$ K$ a5 VRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board% P2 d3 [& X9 k8 g1 w
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
1 h' _' R) j( ^1 v) ~; Bimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating2 j+ G+ J' ?4 m) T
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 A7 A, I8 \1 k+ j6 A. Y- M7 {% [The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 x/ o/ G" Q# h! @1 K
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
1 B k+ z+ q" c; h& [ }( V ebe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
+ F8 x' [/ E n! `- L* aparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ O8 i9 |+ I( L `% q& Kfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of K$ T) X+ l% u. H) r8 |
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ f2 D; Y7 o5 }) o! H0 X# q. e
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 ]4 g6 j* K9 j6 ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
3 e. [ E; n+ u3 L7 tdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
