The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
1 x& S% @, f9 _. y5 V% X, CRoles and Functions- }. D6 C2 V( A! p( t
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
c' j4 r2 X5 X, Dorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the" f' ^( {2 I- E1 y
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has# T9 o( e7 O T4 X, A' M; M4 U& o7 g
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,7 {7 v0 {3 b( B2 X( d% z* D
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: n: b- X. ]7 {, G+ O5 y r) {board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% w- e& ^( w% b+ i gconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
3 U5 c& T2 P4 L1 Pemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( B/ H0 k4 a; a/ n' q' l; Hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend j3 _ n- f& B" a; [
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the0 K7 f0 O: |5 W! ~# w
officers of the Coalition7 y* a: k& ^) W: A4 I: Y( k/ X
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
% p6 v6 Q$ M& P3 V0 A Korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations: d- @0 F) h2 G$ v4 j+ K
and public institutions
* u7 }2 F# E7 H3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through2 j$ n9 j) u4 ?; m, ?
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives3 X/ n5 I* Y5 _% U/ A4 E& N
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 N C0 k& @6 u
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with: \/ w! k: V: w2 ^4 n* Y; P1 a0 Y

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community( g4 a2 `. ]& @2 X, O/ G7 w

Administrative responsibilities:; N1 L, I; G2 L2 `- k
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
/ y% m) O* I- w- Lregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
: S! ~! e3 ^ L$ P5 xdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! y" a) C/ B9 ]3 o3 E. i. b
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.; @" w' p8 k5 c/ N j6 l
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the3 I' Y- ]. x5 e. t& j8 t% N1 P

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
: h j3 V$ @3 R8 z7 L1 j, rAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to: M) {& N3 }! {
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
* f! U3 a# A1 s. R0 poperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.' z2 |' F' x9 G$ P" j
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and }" A( s* c- p5 V, [' z
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should. h9 D- l. Y7 X9 e& g8 ^- R/ Z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. E7 C* R, S+ U1 f' kparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and' b* i" u1 Q" N5 |7 Y7 U2 k
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of, N( T' q) [1 ~3 h+ [# o! f2 f
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial) F% Q& B$ Y7 I5 }! `7 L: f
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
/ [* z- y) x3 d ~* H6 Vmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( Q3 M* `/ r* X3 I5 U: t: u% z# Ndirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
