The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
& x: h! c# m# `/ r! u* `" p: sRoles and Functions" l+ {8 j" N7 S3 Q N( i! B
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the7 a8 K8 l, m, G+ L9 A5 k' g
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the# h7 V; g0 k0 ~- r
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
+ W! @* }: o3 V2 \2 v* d3 {the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,, v6 ?) X: q f x* g$ T
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular3 d) T; e' Y1 T( K6 l
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is+ n5 v$ I. l% Y$ a# m' b% g6 n' p
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
6 Z) ]6 Y% d5 Y- s/ z! U3 u! Z hemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
3 v! X% k" D) g& Astaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' Y$ ]! i) e/ C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.' E" Q" f' k9 ]2 z9 k

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the0 c! p) D/ f+ D; r* E
officers of the Coalition% _( i ^ t4 K3 y, `( |+ N
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
& U/ c4 H7 T+ G& a0 R# l; N2 l$ zorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
9 {4 |; @! I4 o8 b: C: C7 uand public institutions
5 U8 j- J3 O! d. M3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ z6 T! p" R# L& D" o9 Lfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives6 u% p+ F: O* H W3 |& V: T
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 q& u! `! W$ A% ~+ Uorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with; a. i( b" o% O ~

Administrative responsibilities:
# \& q# r' l# M% B3 f0 v0 v1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
) t/ q( k$ h' z$ g I' s3 e, D) rregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
* g" @ B- i8 [& s( K3 udirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the5 R" q. F6 J1 A* h
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 _; g# v6 b" f! O8 z7 N% d! k, K! ^2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board" i% r+ ~4 }. Z& @
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
1 l7 T( t$ L' d7 l# ~, Vimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
' p* O. X3 j7 _) n& H8 h" s$ Eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.* S2 k1 w8 W) E/ ]5 T' ^
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and) j$ `; V$ \. m5 c7 J
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should/ T4 w0 @) P7 m+ K9 N# F
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 {% K1 g% i) b6 W" \% q1 h! f6 v: sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: J. ^1 x" V9 H- M! u0 |/ ~- B
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: _ c3 K' K* ]! b7 ?4 i6 E: I
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial$ @0 h# t9 ^% R! {; i
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all2 y( a% D" W; Q3 `- `7 C
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( z% u( z( H# A5 m8 P! y6 O5 Udirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
