Roles and Functions* \7 ^9 z' R O
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; E& ` U M; j& w- p8 X ~' Norganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
5 ]7 p# s. k0 k6 Xoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 P. g: L( q8 e& cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, w5 R% q5 a$ aoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular' G! \. a# }) z' u& X9 h
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
8 i, p, ~% w& Q5 _conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an9 X# Q% _9 Q- a5 J' _6 ~
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires( m2 h6 W+ B3 H
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ v/ E- M1 I7 u4 x6 b7 K: Oall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1 T$ J4 p" X5 s- Q8 t' I9 _$ X$ SThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
1 r! F/ S g" p& d0 }1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the; ?1 y Q% Z, d: v, I, g* J
officers of the Coalition* h. M& c1 M, q4 p+ K6 E$ Z) q
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural: d; i3 B8 G: T2 D% Q8 b
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, I4 M! B: A( [; s4 N7 b2 B4 Land public institutions
8 l3 {9 C5 O9 B3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
# i6 T' v& n# G6 w% k) y5 p5 y5 pfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives" v# F+ q& e& j& b6 O, z
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community" O7 {& V, t2 I0 m* ?
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic, _+ P6 P0 C9 L& u* p) d$ `
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society% R0 | w- o9 ]1 k" W G
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working2 _5 C$ T0 \$ N& q: D2 B% Z, {1 c$ M
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:; @% x ]4 d7 v+ h
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
7 s! e( ^8 D6 w9 c4 o& O+ Gregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 u, p3 x% F- @directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, l5 j# g2 o. m" p+ q; ]7 `& D
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.0 ?. W6 L8 g) u; T6 b7 e
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
. g, z" F( Q: L$ ^% `: n+ DMulticultural Coalition2 I+ R, E, K- ]# {6 _" m! d5 R$ Y
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
1 ]0 Y8 h* T! \" OAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to% Q# Y' i4 F9 H9 ]6 n. y' T
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ }1 k% a) E% W# W. boperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.) m2 s( i% g- v' T2 F3 s. G# C$ z
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and) k! m4 j! [8 x7 u
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
" d0 B+ m$ ]9 B- ?' o9 {, |be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership, A! Z* w6 M, e- Q5 V# M
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
9 W& ?0 h/ v2 f4 v0 y2 vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- y- k, e. b5 ~7 l- ` o9 q
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial5 B' p& i3 x6 h( f0 K$ @
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
* M# b- Z5 }( E0 xmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
9 M4 |/ a; W* w, v, Z/ S' Rdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with( R- Q( a( @1 A. j+ z" U

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
