The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition1 f) K2 p; ]) s/ ]! g# M
Roles and Functions
. m- ^4 ^ h# tThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the' [$ } ^% I; q1 R* U0 w8 W1 y
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
6 J# J) z' C' B8 g. Voperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 ~/ J$ p# {7 A" b- S% t9 y+ Xthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 n1 }2 `3 ?6 a8 N3 |7 k9 F" \
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
0 m" N7 H8 @: A" | o6 }$ Zboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
1 R5 p7 m4 D9 G7 P* X& g0 Aconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! \6 ]7 o8 }- i) b
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
1 ]1 j1 B! X6 g- vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend3 _& l5 ^/ p0 B/ X% S5 u/ E4 B
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant., M3 {2 y; l6 ~' w0 C* J

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
" N3 G" A$ f) v$ q4 ]3 H) E1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the. D$ f9 O' B' R: n
officers of the Coalition
% z7 x$ [& ? l, j: b: c2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural7 E$ ]! O8 B% @) I1 i" ?9 n
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
5 P9 G( v; K$ }; land public institutions7 L0 Y6 `( ]6 r [0 m; S& A1 @
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
0 I2 c8 F8 {/ F' d1 j# ^/ V7 sfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
, G3 L9 l) N% p& @( _, }9 s' t4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
1 L& P# `2 h( l% jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working2 N5 t4 P& Z) O. {
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically9 j/ Q9 s2 q& s9 V
diverse backgrounds9 J- t# E" x% V2 @) ?1 _) |, b
9 y* }4 x7 n. Q" K9 C1 U( M# gAdministrative responsibilities:
; t6 S3 k! D2 j0 K+ Y& m6 u- z$ E1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
$ _+ H7 E2 e6 z+ Nregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 h o0 P* I( Qdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
6 o2 a; l; e' E% qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.; z! u9 X5 Y t+ y- t5 M& d
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
# n' s7 e' }. E: M# Y$ K2 t2 c& YMulticultural Coalition
5 f9 B! N6 z1 L0 w7 _/ VRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
$ _! N! ?2 @6 ?5 Q( YAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to3 ~ B' u" C: l1 e& l- Q
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating$ d6 C7 d l9 O: K& H$ T
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.6 G$ ?% B" U2 Q, t# |1 D5 c- i
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
, i' [5 M N1 B0 ^' Haims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% ?5 W+ w8 H0 c! ^4 Wbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* o# F* o3 b) z i7 y
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
- j6 o' z( N/ D, Z# ?6 yfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
_6 V) K$ e4 e6 V/ O% Y M& Pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
j6 M1 `7 a k0 a: pstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 ~! b) ]" I/ K; p: kmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
$ t. z v# ? m" d3 ?$ e& D' Vdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of/ e5 o$ d. u8 Z' q
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
