The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition9 U- R2 g, k- i8 Q4 B' I% ^4 {
Roles and Functions- [2 F# Q: \3 G$ M5 s! C
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
! B4 X- l) Q" I# k* @6 ~2 X+ P' Oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
. i2 W; k1 T. k/ d+ \operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has( L! H- g ^9 C: P
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 K5 F5 \- Q i' [5 @; u
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
2 ~1 q- ^0 B. u3 A [) wboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is. g, t- z- V; R2 X2 f2 X0 B, Z
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 e- E! d; ]" g7 n$ ^7 k& w
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
- `) x2 O7 I i7 u* K& w' Sstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend7 s3 d" M8 y/ g% I9 }' `2 t
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:. b: A' H7 E p. G% U, ?
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:3 C& y' G5 M% u- t9 x" l" z. A
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. C8 e. V3 F1 @; {# o
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations% _) Y' g7 |+ l- F
and public institutions6 t% `! h8 o7 F0 X8 G% W7 M, b% e
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
: [$ |4 B2 V, |8 J) A& A! p, B& W' afunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives' B/ `5 e1 J$ {- r/ ^6 N+ E! f r# h% f
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic; t, H! `: {$ |9 d1 T
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:
9 l! q8 U4 f: ]2 |" V( z+ a1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- ]! ~/ U, j- m8 `2 _% A7 A: N ^
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of) S% K4 Q4 m7 N6 Q# d
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the: z9 L0 H x& }3 o
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.4 p0 g% g# ^+ k0 x6 O% x' h" K+ c5 E
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the& U+ @2 J6 {/ B" y! u& A6 F

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board Q0 H# V0 C! P- q! b
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" _; \, |( x4 l5 u& x# G# N$ Cimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
+ q' p6 I$ N: x9 B" G) X4 o2 }operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.7 K* p7 o) k$ _9 b) B% X
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and; y8 N8 z) O" ?0 [7 P
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
4 ]1 ?) V. v+ w% h- F) x7 f8 _9 a2 |9 ~be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# {3 q( u, H7 O% {3 q) ?
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and

6 P2 B8 K! N1 f+ f6 T. }directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
' [5 X4 F3 {2 e* j! Ustatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all0 U( q" m0 z8 s( h
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 ?1 J6 S( J) ]+ L7 Z
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
