; c) D! D, r7 K6 ^& Z# SRoles and Functions# Z( d0 E. d7 |9 b" r' |
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: o0 i8 l* U9 f# O* Borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
. \5 Z" D6 R6 E7 v* coperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& }* r, t* d, |* R) ~
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,; H% L; D9 j* D: t$ r
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
/ l, [) s' C* o* O* h K& |board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 z( r: p/ q& k8 P9 e% a; Fconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
t0 Z, l) }7 d7 l9 V& z# temployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
) y8 I% j" s5 }# P" ]" B' Istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
( s! ]4 m0 e& Wall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.& J4 } |$ p- V2 Y

Functions and responsibilities:
) h" i4 m* Q3 Z" I5 K- H) VThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
C1 }) J3 E3 C# x' i: g: Y9 u" X1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
: Y: [8 E3 ~- B- }- k( Gofficers of the Coalition
* T# i/ B& P& [( P. t2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural, u4 _8 y3 s1 V/ E! d: ?, X* U; L
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
6 D+ {* V1 r2 ?" u- w4 }- o/ Yand public institutions0 ^2 y- h' Q( I" @( F+ V# F( A
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
7 U' l o0 X, a2 @) C+ t% c; H2 `funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; |! [% J5 w) W; \0 L# u
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community! a% v; u9 m2 q( I
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with3 P* U4 j* i. [2 f6 b

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working% ~. ]3 P% q* U& [( _) Z1 u& [
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically1 Z- l4 h7 T8 J7 c* N9 J: P2 g
diverse backgrounds) V4 v3 S; X; t( v5 Y
& a5 I9 P3 g1 \6 t! f5 @Administrative responsibilities:% \% a% }6 D; {' v- j) i8 \- s+ L
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 J C4 S7 S A# V8 A0 Z3 ]regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 W# T6 Y) V7 `4 t2 _) Z" _% \
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
) l5 f0 l5 c$ u& ~( Amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.% o8 v7 h" G/ `" _& m: M7 n
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the2 b9 D' H D/ `

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board, F2 f4 @5 d& G- M
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' V7 c- f" A3 s+ D4 `- ?
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 F& N h0 i9 x8 j# S
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
m5 \5 W2 {9 JThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and/ ~8 U+ r: h0 k0 }) P4 `
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
3 [; O* t6 n {. Q% m, Sbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
6 u5 a3 J% G% I4 J2 fparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
/ V+ K8 A, _8 ~5 j4 u0 h7 ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
|5 V5 w. S2 _: ~( s- Ldirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* E7 T7 H2 z' B, C! ~$ t- x* g( sstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all3 x& Q5 `2 z' P% Y( m h5 C
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of( h7 s( }8 z, J$ V. u# F6 k
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
- f3 o1 E& B- d' b% O/ b# m! d Kpolicies already adopted

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation- B) {* [; h* l2 a. N T, O0 i5 W
for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee/ m: G/ A4 @& ]

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles5 k; D8 o8 P1 J" D
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates
5 [' T8 A# |+ a* x0 S( Cof funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and5 T) m- s+ B1 F0 J7 c

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
