Roles and Functions
# ], I( P# m- b. \The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the* l8 F: C# K/ I. M* u9 N
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the) Q1 B% i- s2 \) J0 \4 G
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 z: ~" G& s4 L( i7 nthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,7 R) ~( N; n* \
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular( t K( M5 L# e2 @
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is1 J. k. G5 R- n" x" k0 S
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! @6 f* D- i7 F; m0 l4 P9 W4 nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
3 B* O" p+ E5 tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
5 R1 a: K% o( dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.( P, o5 @* a$ R

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
& w+ |. f3 g R% p$ b" ?7 b1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
V" A. W9 v! uofficers of the Coalition# z, P7 O$ E# M0 D8 B
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
% {4 r. O6 H4 K; `. Uorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
# a/ I1 H; Y# @and public institutions
0 m8 A: @" C7 C0 N; i6 X3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 M$ ^3 k/ J/ F% g6 a1 L
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ y* b1 |) c5 y6 \) O: F- H: d
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
6 Q" C$ S/ n7 ?, borganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

& F, |4 K% i* ]; D2 rAdministrative responsibilities:
7 H9 }2 s, ?. L# W" j1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 V4 N; S* j3 R/ W: Uregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
. G# v$ l" I) ]6 Z& J; a9 ~directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the/ E8 L# [: f* ]9 E! B
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' x- a+ Z+ K8 Y# l5 V- I2 [/ v2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

6 Y4 n; @; `! BRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
9 k! X- r% a: ~) x6 G0 ?6 B. HAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to. J; ?; L. |6 B; b4 ]9 q
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
. L8 N% e: w: q& Doperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.% Q1 L0 E+ W1 d' E/ B# S5 ^ |0 {+ d6 M
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and* w, w4 t4 [" o8 G& n% m
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should y) X$ d, r! R8 x0 X+ S+ {
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* f# `* V! z' n+ g4 b
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and% F. N1 H, r1 @& S' i6 g" _
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
$ C8 U1 A! h& e7 o0 W' hdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial, I/ }: J- x1 H' Q" F4 q- f) {: @
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all* `1 A/ s" D, n% h/ c
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of4 k6 l/ U* {' r2 q! \6 O
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

7. Community based research skills is an asset

Pay Range & Terms
