# L% T" x! ^0 D7 kThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition" g# ]* V: x' o
Roles and Functions7 W' G0 P4 t. K6 \3 W4 B4 u1 s! U5 p6 M
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
2 _# b. e2 T" L# x% K5 Corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
5 \( h& z5 |! g! Z# F# Ooperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has8 U3 Y7 L5 n# |
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
$ y# A1 z, P) F7 }operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 q/ T" n/ ~+ p1 \3 f' Q; `4 Fboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is3 G8 C+ c5 @8 E+ s( c* v# H0 I+ v
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! v; N9 S; g8 S' t
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
8 K* e$ p' N0 [5 g: O& Fstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# j- |- k+ ~' ^) t: i
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ n. P, R" z! G- I+ r. f# F
3 t4 s E5 o: N* \0 p$ pFunctions and responsibilities:
2 f7 l5 { ^& ^& u3 a* kThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:8 ^& d$ d; \" ^' C$ J' V2 X, d
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the; O7 f! c7 ~! I( e
officers of the Coalition& m I# F- z6 w3 P
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. y! Z! y e" R4 O: x/ H
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
. Z8 O. O; r; n7 q7 M8 K( E& j! k1 Fand public institutions
. q4 |( D# K' j! G3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through8 Y+ `! F3 o$ O) q1 Y3 b
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
8 l# @0 i) V* x8 Z6 {4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community v1 v j) p3 `; f& h" |; C6 g
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 g0 Y! H; k; m

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

% ^# M! ^7 h/ B2 I! h2 W- tAdministrative responsibilities:. Z# y4 R2 v5 ?
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 q$ ?3 K3 ^' D" ?: n/ D+ p
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
' Y: { g& |* U* ]! K( Q( l# i" Mdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 m3 F2 W( w- F+ n% jmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 B; y% [# ? i4 e8 T2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
+ e* w; l8 s4 {Multicultural Coalition; d+ j( v* ?; R% o' P& y- y. r8 `" g
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board" ?1 W& s! t3 e
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to+ q1 v& J+ |# u! H; P1 r* E4 i" _2 I
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
* V5 t$ |2 Q! W" T) p# U, u* zoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
y8 m h p& X4 S4 o/ _The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
( L5 R' K9 _; R$ q) |7 waims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
! u1 M6 d" W- T% ^/ Tbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
8 X# }8 v% X0 |( x% E8 lparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
; _! N% g X- ?! ~facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 h: ~' ~! Y- _% C+ Y/ qdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
$ E% t. Q$ e& istatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; q. y5 ?) _0 r) P; xmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
3 f3 ~$ K! V, xdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of& C6 e4 i5 G5 {! f
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
