, H1 D2 x" V# _The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
& w- M$ k$ V. R/ v9 `# P* u7 ARoles and Functions
& L5 k( X3 O% D, b+ ?' {7 p+ o+ PThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. B, T% r8 w1 ^- w% q- I2 q% m
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
" k, O1 J @, R6 c+ a' b7 U1 voperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& ~4 Q& R' t3 D! N! F4 p6 N
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
- J" v" f( j$ k* ~ Uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
* y7 g" U* `3 f& U. ]5 K& ^board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is, i; N8 [! l6 D: f6 Z' R
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
1 X' \, A2 S8 ^; ?# J% pemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" L) S2 x' d+ Z: |5 D/ I- F
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) l0 V ?0 I9 r7 p4 {all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:

( T; P* d( ` V4 i: e2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural' {7 k2 L3 j& I7 U; h3 g: E7 p- E
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations- b" [# Y n' e1 M* B
and public institutions
0 q" Q" p2 X+ R9 V# q: |9 a3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through

4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community4 f* V6 A3 B+ n4 u$ k
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

Administrative responsibilities:' [0 b( ? K B: Z! b
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its7 b) c: c2 Y, `; V* f( ~1 R$ g
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; S: j2 w: G& f; U/ v5 Cdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# X+ j$ B; e' O* V/ Rmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
/ n3 X/ \- I% E8 ?" ~6 u) h2 P+ V1 D' t5 r2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 A% T4 O! m0 r" c2 {, H9 X

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board! ]# n& o; a5 W) N# M/ c
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 S( h5 [- u5 V2 ~- gimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating; c) K0 f l2 `, ?/ G
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 ~1 i" q; y) s# z' e _ e; z+ g
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and2 N7 q$ m: ]1 u0 e
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ Z3 h4 s/ B( v6 a1 z+ kbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership. n# m4 y2 v Y, }: l
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ R; a' A1 U4 h! x% N- f# {facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of0 j) _) V2 a5 d
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial$ r5 a1 C+ B) t. [0 V7 L3 E
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; Y, E" s" y$ T# ]" {matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ A+ |. c4 k2 x% r n5 \
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

Pay Range & Terms
