Roles and Functions7 @2 x1 Q" t9 ]! P A r3 |
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ F$ v# b" \4 R( A3 q9 s7 e2 Borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
) R8 O4 I d6 a P, }/ ?$ [$ boperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 S( r( s. `! vthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,' `6 z$ w0 T* R5 _& t" N
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 X+ K) M" W1 u: h
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is6 c# w- {+ L) ]" a
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* y% H- a5 D2 @' _$ L8 p0 m/ R, y9 D
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ u+ G1 e, W5 G) P" }9 Fstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
/ f$ L) p0 y3 s$ p. Z8 e& yall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.. V- G+ E. U2 V1 t# j

Functions and responsibilities:, s4 e8 {( z2 D w3 D
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 f* z4 p$ J7 B$ \
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the! s4 K# K8 ?. {
officers of the Coalition
8 t1 o5 z7 |' y( I {' c# H2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural# J2 Q: }- ~7 o! N8 o
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 ]+ K0 |) u1 W7 A& T5 C- V; |and public institutions
, K. S% @# J3 \8 y( g4 W& s6 D3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. {9 A' l8 x3 X( t
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ ^% [+ L* }% f% e: y, V
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
9 ^$ v J- D1 n" m# j) ?8 e' yorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with1 {! o2 C+ B8 @* _

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community" E5 k6 ~* N& n( T5 h2 T' E0 a" X

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
) A Z; E, c0 x" J9 Q4 H1 _participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
1 T5 T% {! |; Q4 W4 r: @$ D% W1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
! @2 G5 P- _# Z) d$ f. X Rregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
' F, U% o3 W, \8 }directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the$ Z. s- G% s! f5 V! K0 h6 m
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.8 m) q4 o* n A% b% }0 t
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the+ e. ^- H( Q; K w: {7 |% u3 T
Multicultural Coalition
) I/ D( C4 `7 Z' i @) ~ {$ xRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board7 M+ G+ m2 C; l& a0 e8 H
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
1 `: t/ J5 T2 h& timplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- g2 X: K. S" K! i6 m% E: ~9 aoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
& F4 C* Z0 g6 V; P7 LThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, M. {7 e1 P6 s, k. b" i. b
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
) x8 b7 q8 @1 g: ]be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
/ j3 n% Y4 e3 `3 G4 h. `participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and4 ]# W! o3 ]3 j2 t- F7 I
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
" k' I3 @- i! _directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- N2 e( @8 } I: V3 cstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all; |/ c m% \, X* T
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of( K/ v; a5 { a, v2 I1 S
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with( q$ i1 Y: C8 [7 q1 J0 v6 f
possible extension depending on funding.
