& w; d7 q, I6 S3 HRoles and Functions9 A! l8 n% l5 [; Z/ d! G0 J
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 a) K; f2 L, | r% v+ h8 g: O; c; O
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 e8 R4 ~% U7 k/ h5 D h3 ~
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 O/ N- x4 f* V% s) \: I& @. Uthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
8 f9 {& A9 Y8 c9 I, ?; k1 P% `operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 j" w8 y. G; k# V3 g3 }board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
. a& u6 T$ x4 u, P" ]conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an' p3 i _) C" n* J8 F
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 ~6 }+ [0 X" N7 p7 q3 g, r' p" ~
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend$ J8 z' ^# v. l' x8 D( X1 M0 n% V
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
8 J5 b$ g F0 L) Z& JThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:8 n+ a8 i+ r3 w, h
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
/ g8 Y! [1 A5 F* i- y& iofficers of the Coalition- @/ h4 k! v& e, B, ?
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural$ b( ]+ U w5 e. d4 S+ o
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations: q6 _4 V+ _# ?8 @6 B
and public institutions/ c. ?1 k- o9 U) z9 @4 v: R- f
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 U( F& R S' m0 _% x
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives4 `& S- ~" i0 A& Z1 Q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. ~# H5 i6 Y3 U" I( c3 F# T: Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with# y4 b, x6 Z. c+ Q5 b' x

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
4 B% U h( D5 lparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically' B( k$ s: g' F9 ?( s" j
diverse backgrounds& B5 R/ _- C3 I$ v9 g
' Y* _ i- Q6 Z, @4 W/ j1 R4 sAdministrative responsibilities:5 P, r6 r y m5 d. N: _! m
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
) F, i7 t! j) U8 h$ _7 Jregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
$ W" |- n# D" T1 Q7 L6 d+ T u1 E0 v: @/ }directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# K7 ]( i, ]/ m: H$ zmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
; p5 l N/ }, V2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the, x/ ?1 {2 g3 J( C7 c% J

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
0 `- C- P" ~) g; RAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: K2 {2 a6 p4 K- f2 P. i6 I8 u! Zimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
2 T# l9 H$ u& j$ u5 E! C9 Ioperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ @% Q8 {" U5 u: d8 dThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and$ b: K0 L7 {( f5 O: m
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
; T j5 L2 X2 ~6 b4 {* w( g4 L4 ^be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
0 D2 ]" L. S4 i% \. e, Mparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ ^ h' Q+ `6 Y" Ffacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of. ?. j" i, q- f( I Q0 _" T
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
+ q# W+ v3 v+ Rstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all9 {! T/ E: D* \8 H g& G
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
% ~( f2 X$ A/ v" f9 K5 Y2 Q+ B2 Sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles8 G1 J1 I; g% r w% Q- E
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
