Roles and Functions
; u d$ ^7 N$ P! A4 a( D `, x1 E" wThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
3 G5 |1 ~, j1 E0 N$ p5 ^. uorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ p4 A9 f# X) p" D. G
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
2 V$ V# C+ O7 _; ]the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
4 T5 w7 \6 P5 l2 K1 Z, Y; ?. hoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular$ m u, A# }! T% u9 V0 V
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% N% y U1 O4 h& C% F3 m. C
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an; d F/ j" f! x+ M5 O' z7 y
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ m G: S# K- [: a/ [' |staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
4 K0 q- H! R; e* e c' }4 ^1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
' E, T4 I: f' A) L# Torganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
' s; v W, c: f* ?. J" m9 Xand public institutions* B- c) k0 ~ v( k: l
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through# [5 ]8 p0 K S1 ]5 R" e3 x
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives- v* G0 [7 W! @/ D# t) d
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community7 W6 n1 J7 d$ ?* E
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

) A' j/ j5 A/ `/ B5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
c9 r. S8 V4 e1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its# p6 C! N5 {+ I
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of' c5 ~4 _# @/ s0 j
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the$ Z% \4 e! Y* _; W: Y
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 N5 \/ ^# N" @, |* T* h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the; }! d5 G% F- ^# ?/ [: u$ |" w

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
0 O( C% b+ u! ]1 @0 V/ L5 dAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to, U/ D; a; L: ^ h, D
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
4 V, I ?( Z) |- o* h& I! m" P. Voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.7 o, O$ e1 A+ \8 K) @9 D
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and2 ~6 f7 M2 u) o
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
1 e/ B$ ^8 ^3 X' j8 ? k7 G% M# obe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership/ w/ c3 w% O9 _% r' ~2 L
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ s1 R4 @6 T, c; J; `& p
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of# O& W/ W" G$ B" T5 K
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial1 Y4 j G# J( K0 o/ e
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all7 L2 p1 b0 f: l; R9 z- A$ x
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of2 q4 N+ c$ O/ Q2 Y
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
! U, c7 o \! K$ X, J3 dpolicies already adopted
