) ? l7 i. _3 s1 ^5 dRoles and Functions
t. b* T7 R/ v9 [6 QThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
M7 k4 y$ D6 X0 X3 r* Forganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 ?/ X u4 K' h4 n$ l
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( F/ p8 `. @; R1 V& z2 }5 pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,% r( ]4 U) G* Z! K
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 D3 q, {8 Y( ]& ]9 C3 u- B* y
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is2 V- B# k0 {: }& Y
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 I8 o5 s1 `/ Q0 m) e$ E- D
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
2 @! M) x! s* ^5 N% M5 Ystaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# Q7 a4 U5 h1 v* h2 }all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 A' g3 m! x3 O* q/ d7 y7 J

Functions and responsibilities:
" v. b9 D# |' z! n3 mThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:8 R+ g7 ?- i. v0 y" f+ l2 ]- F
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
5 O9 a& _& J3 Z/ n& l; oofficers of the Coalition
$ Q1 r( k8 t4 F) [2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
; e: j+ `$ Y Z& g2 k& i: f2 morganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( x" O z& ]- e# ?9 r+ V
and public institutions
9 |" n- J( b9 S& L& }$ Y" W3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through* q- j& @8 d1 S+ {% \: p
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
- n8 t0 b" y3 P* K4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community. v- h; x, M* N8 U9 {- {
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

1 B8 ~! w- u% j+ x% n7 j- R3 t5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic. {$ _+ G3 s1 x3 c+ M* ]8 Z+ d6 O
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society# |( f Y3 M. [, A+ y8 r
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working2 s( t4 ~* y; ]; v
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically3 X0 R1 m, k/ G0 M
diverse backgrounds( G; |9 j* a; p3 F
% E; c7 H4 v! p2 q2 }+ eAdministrative responsibilities:
+ G6 {' c4 W% y' c1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
# f& N& {7 o* K: g0 B& U) `regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
7 i6 v R# Q$ C* o% I# ndirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
J6 n4 U/ A ], bmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
( m/ Z/ N1 R3 g% c6 `5 ^All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to6 r9 t) o( N8 w0 A* o; G) p% I9 U
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
% ]1 E3 o6 J& n: y$ Ioperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.2 E! t7 ]) A! W7 y" ?6 ]! R) _1 `0 E
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 Z: K l! T3 i! u" a' Saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- l1 O% V- y0 h: A' ebe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
+ }/ m; Y4 ], U9 Dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 \7 v+ p, {/ ~
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of$ L. l s O7 g' P& i/ b/ @% x+ g' }
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial& i0 x: L0 o( M3 N
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all6 c& h3 C9 r4 s: C1 {
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of, r X: I* y; _% L+ H
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation; n5 H6 b' k) L7 k$ W" t/ K2 N
for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

& `' }/ q+ A# T9 z2 f2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles
) v1 f" f+ I% G2 O9 Iof immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates/ Y: U& D, |* ?/ {; a
of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers
& W% M i1 c4 X6 n$ i3 H% V* ?& S3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding& [( W, R: N8 h1 I* J! V

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and( g0 y2 w& }& {8 @6 `

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an. n: f, s# d& w4 u' P

7. Community based research skills is an asset
* _! R: z. L8 m( j& L# q6 o8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or" Y2 b" A' p/ C/ h! A! x

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

Pay Range & Terms
& X% Z6 `/ I( e. R" z- WThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with7 o$ \, e7 { v. I
possible extension depending on funding.
