The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition# \( N" j- S2 H8 J
Roles and Functions- c+ L% V c* P0 r9 c7 a% \8 z( [
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 R' h+ H9 I& i9 p* Oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 X2 Q# \, F- H* ^7 voperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 `* u0 Z- d! d" o- n( E. {the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,2 ^0 j V" q, Q# \
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular" j3 k0 @4 h& C
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
- }9 G- ^. V6 l# d \conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an9 O9 ^% H8 r7 b: ~8 N" i7 I
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
5 H+ g2 |: z" T2 Istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:

officers of the Coalition
5 L3 D& D' a& t4 K$ j2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
- z# x/ n" K a1 |& s. f- E7 Morganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
# Y: f5 \4 n: z. Gand public institutions
# B# D) v' o) q! n6 f8 U+ H2 l3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
' t/ ^: U+ Z- J# y7 O. Hfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
: T6 a% [' Q! B6 }: N9 b' p3 ]7 {4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

Administrative responsibilities:/ A4 W3 _8 d7 R' W! J8 u; ]' y- N
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
$ t$ \" ~* v3 Fregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 f. ?: P0 L* h$ ~# V x/ p
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
/ z- s9 g6 S5 m) b5 s& J2 z3 h: Amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
# y* q# b. h9 J" a B3 B. g2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, n% N+ C" t5 n S: Q HMulticultural Coalition' f' e; l3 x, }4 Q( o. ?: Z6 z
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
& K q. N9 V/ ]1 `/ RAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
5 |1 Q0 G) Y1 T5 x, |implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating' a2 [2 S$ v+ C+ ]
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
5 [3 i W7 `& ?/ q0 wThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! s; b1 F' V, i7 | x! S! eaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
, F; w, {" c) ebe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: I7 _# a5 C$ }! v5 S4 Wparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
% y. U0 g4 g+ F; s% i/ b7 D" w6 P. mfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 z+ k3 g% ]/ P4 @) l0 [5 }directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
. a: `( ?8 S, A; B7 p7 z" h; qstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all' }8 Y" c* [3 k. e/ t
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' G4 j; i0 G- O/ h. L1 I
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
