# T- f( {) x9 uThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
7 j2 R2 [' G: ]Roles and Functions) u. t% f) o% T; A, I( P- n% k
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 o' }0 w; B+ t0 x- ~* ^
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
; W4 B# g4 K" L+ Noperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
* i# z7 Y, \2 [9 o# mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,: F& I( y- A, f( u* d
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: h6 x. f+ G4 Z9 Sboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is2 Q/ S/ B9 _, A9 m9 B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an- `( K( @ L7 D
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires1 w" g7 @" y. u% x( _" o! j' j
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
" q5 N; F u* iall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.+ T0 Q* }) `9 L. m6 k4 c

Functions and responsibilities:, t# O+ Z( H+ ?8 Y* n5 f8 A
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:2 Z6 A, ]! S: `) \5 M* C) \
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the) u1 Q+ [$ j: y/ w" n/ A
officers of the Coalition
5 Q, J# i+ O1 l1 r2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural: [2 s4 E* ?' L9 o$ Z
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations; e! P; u! Y+ Q) X. t
and public institutions9 `$ _8 |) z, A: M
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* X- ]) ]& M6 J+ E$ Kfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives) C* U% r6 Y: s
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community/ [1 u* e9 h: E2 z+ ?! p* A5 ~
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with+ c. x* i. A9 r& P3 a

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

' t9 `7 [% p. Y v+ J$ r4 `& {8 rAdministrative responsibilities:( b# G8 g, {$ @) p
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
/ z! g5 S+ `7 L1 [6 s9 l3 @- iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
4 G$ U& v6 F5 r6 ?, z! Bdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the7 C& C X& D; g
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 V( ?( D/ T/ ^
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
) }% H' t4 E% Q9 h$ RMulticultural Coalition! j! R& F, X: t
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
1 }; o# T& c# o, x2 kAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 d6 D9 R8 J2 o- Gimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ S! P( w+ u& k5 F& v* O5 Doperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 Q8 X# R1 d# ]7 K" y
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and$ U# _- P6 f" Q: D4 W
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
6 M, D; P# I2 Abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership; b, k6 [& F8 r1 y/ }$ p
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and% H/ B7 b! C7 g' |" A# U
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" }+ D8 i" R7 n7 |
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- [0 I& C0 ^/ u8 n4 H7 v5 v
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
6 ], ?" q. ~- ]9 g! M. a7 Hmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
; p# X* i6 n- [$ Z4 qdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of5 Q" ?9 s- z& e# f% N* `' ]* @
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

Pay Range & Terms
2 e& O) [0 j8 a' IThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
