The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
5 [. d) q% v9 Z% [& ~Roles and Functions4 _+ S. d4 w. [9 i3 F+ g) I2 k8 R
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: g$ y1 G/ Y/ P. Corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the: o# w! P9 z! B1 d
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
: m c$ p3 a+ @8 ~4 N' Cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
& c2 @9 b# i, \operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
7 U3 q( ?2 b. ?. [3 M- oboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" p( h6 D/ f ~# ], Wconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
* P2 V0 e1 K( d1 Xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires/ D) k! x3 O0 e6 k7 R
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend- D' x2 ? z4 u3 r0 P: v
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:6 s. E% u7 N% \
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:) D7 q% } H5 r% }+ u7 ~
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the+ A( _# A8 d1 K# g, h- i. v
officers of the Coalition" B9 c* a- o6 l( R6 I
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
8 [% }: e }" T7 R' d" S! Xorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations8 K$ M& v: `% m) V
and public institutions% z, c* z% ?% \7 }8 r
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through$ S7 p* }# m( `. [2 N
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives" `" f( G4 Z) t" J3 R. x
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community+ U/ N( R2 H9 H+ K
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community" S. u4 `) W6 Z; ?( f; F3 d9 k

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
3 {# T- n1 o# @participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically0 |' R( p. Z3 e# B
diverse backgrounds

0 d5 j- I9 e5 n4 B) k' iAdministrative responsibilities:
6 b! K8 G, A- ~; P1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
+ R( c2 S! T3 F; L2 hregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of' X( |, p5 \& R: e7 b1 R
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the2 R( `! n$ i& m4 ^5 k% ~
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
+ e4 l2 O' Q, _- S. ]# A2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
0 c, X; ]% j% s6 jMulticultural Coalition2 ?2 m! L7 H, e; V5 `
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board) r+ F" s. {; v/ H: R. Y$ I7 A
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' R( m/ r2 x) ~* n
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
! X7 | W& O9 A2 poperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 m$ g7 V9 o& Z. U% I" LThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
& c; i& D3 I" i+ Laims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- i6 u8 O7 `" g8 Obe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
+ S: @- u. ~$ Bparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and( x; s& x/ {( X9 t( f: v
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
( Q" y: y& [# H1 adirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial" X( J, L8 X0 \& c# I
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all9 N* g9 y9 T% K7 L+ H
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
& I' V! Q( `2 t3 m }- ndirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
1 t) \4 [+ p; v5 o2 d9 Z! ipolicies already adopted+ k4 L# a- A. j5 `1 f! ^5 o8 d9 N

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
