Roles and Functions5 {; R* N' a6 r+ \! C( Q
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the3 w6 Q# [, v% ?4 `1 C9 v
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the; E5 w/ {' b4 r/ K/ D& r
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
4 d3 {. Y( l3 y7 m2 e X3 Dthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
: |; t/ S! f0 L2 p9 voperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular8 s; s- Y0 }% A8 e% J2 t
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% F a5 Z' }; n G. X" ?+ ~
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 h) A' O9 q% O- i; g
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires1 l& x( r" s8 G6 y
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ ~8 G: O- c( B. T/ gall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

3 e- I3 z7 @! K5 k6 p! q6 H, |1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the. z( P( W& ^- h+ }. }9 p
officers of the Coalition
$ }) {( b- {2 ]6 B2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 h+ o0 ~! h+ V `# u
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
: p$ s: E, B- ~( W3 S4 Cand public institutions( g q3 x3 G4 U) m% i# }4 t
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
8 w' {8 @3 }8 Y0 I& d lfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives7 H, x) @/ K2 U6 F7 d. p5 ?
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
/ Z, Q6 N0 P( A: R% u1 o+ b- S5 n% Aorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with# M6 K' K' I5 l* t# _

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
/ {/ v% H4 N1 r2 B1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
: a3 y& L; Z/ K+ d7 T# E8 d# Iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of# d, z ^9 J# l3 E c$ }0 L
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% F! r% H& ]' ?5 |' `$ `members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
Z$ o4 @* P# U: \- f2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; a0 J" s, z0 cMulticultural Coalition
$ o4 v# {- ^% }1 zRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ F! H. H4 _& H8 p* _1 I
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 @: r% I# E4 |' z3 v5 ~( H Rimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating! C, w5 r' {) y0 u# o) K' L
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility./ o+ ?3 z' E" V' q$ e D& X
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and: X% H" J: x F; Q$ R# [
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
* t, y3 V7 J: I5 N2 f2 Vbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 d9 U( H9 [! ]( ]! Iparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
n9 _* m" Y. v( |5 H$ ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of0 C8 n8 U" u* e) `0 G- ]6 q+ g
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
# o2 y/ @/ t1 j0 L) Dstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
! Q- I* e' R: |9 b0 j* i1 x: }, @' |' pmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* c Z) m$ x* w$ Y& y3 Z3 u
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
! O3 ^1 X/ e A" apolicies already adopted
