The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition+ V- ?% L2 H* E( g0 q
Roles and Functions
- ]: k3 x& V$ _7 n5 _" mThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 k4 V, |6 A4 R0 g oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the& U1 b4 U( [. o5 a, Z0 @' v
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( G" a7 Z: M0 A) u* Pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,- [ B- {2 p4 S2 u5 G1 i
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 a9 }8 `: a- t$ g, Kboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& t- e3 w' I+ kconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 i, I L: x9 u9 w" y) E
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
% ? p. m9 U2 x* N3 Y! l0 ^4 y; lstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! M# s& @, o Q3 Uall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
4 X" l+ |% X# v a+ p1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the" o, n7 ^8 w X& w
officers of the Coalition
, O: ]4 W+ [8 X. X* J& P2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural! ^' N, c; J# z. `
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 E/ f/ p8 l" t1 a& N. p- ?and public institutions
* o9 P9 [0 L1 k, ]- w j3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
; r; G6 U6 m$ y1 n2 f3 m% R2 Zfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
# L0 l1 P; @6 @' R# z: p4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
( G+ c/ T0 \" A( L# L+ B8 eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

+ i8 [! Z% b: b* QAdministrative responsibilities:; ^( \+ a, \4 L9 ^3 E+ ?
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its; Q0 F+ k0 b4 ~- A. ~6 L. L/ n
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 H% F& o5 o, [8 Q0 s$ D
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
! A" w6 [: n5 r1 L7 x5 R" C1 Rmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
* W0 H% K7 X5 Y% F; _2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
# i& z9 Y, A# _) SMulticultural Coalition( N3 i$ K- Z- e# o
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board6 c( i5 ]! V1 N% e I& r/ k
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to0 I' l ?7 j& f1 W/ N
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating* B8 G* O( D: @7 O
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
4 b5 y9 _# `4 W7 CThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
- E f7 C% r6 l/ o, I7 uaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should* u1 y4 T3 F) }' b% y D; J
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 w" L" j8 L2 v0 Q/ p8 X: R# Cparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
8 ?6 q) C, d3 Y |0 ?/ G8 tfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of$ C4 N9 q, C! s. o- M1 T
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 |& v6 A, x' t _% U. ~statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all" S2 [( s7 T+ r3 P$ _# T: }3 i
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' r5 r- O% M- u0 y
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of0 o j5 Q! F# W, O8 F
policies already adopted) E* Q. J' H P/ b0 M; h9 Z

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
