The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* p8 v- _- Q" x% F* l
Roles and Functions
( m# }1 y( B+ \. @0 rThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
. o" t7 z' q5 ?( n: Rorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the% v# y! w4 w. V/ [' u
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has7 A0 b Y. Y/ u" l S
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 c" X1 {+ T0 ^6 v& [4 i1 J! c+ A
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular2 ~2 b/ O0 V: n3 ^2 {3 J5 Y
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
5 h3 d z( z" V% dconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
; n0 \- r. G/ ^4 Q% O6 s0 qemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
& t+ N* j& v4 Y5 i( O6 n) lstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; q, r+ L \2 K0 _2 vall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:0 [9 C f, D" ]
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:2 q: T7 z: K2 C U) h! O
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
4 }5 _' @4 t. h+ {officers of the Coalition6 N$ ?# N) T# s5 P5 Y+ U/ k
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
5 ^/ m6 K7 |% o+ O$ e5 Y7 T/ Worganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
6 p" E7 v9 x5 c; g/ iand public institutions
/ [9 w! r0 R: V% ^3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through" Z9 Y5 \. a+ @# ?& M g
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 w7 @' b9 X* ~0 [8 K$ v
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community: q0 H, h6 C6 ^" e0 D" n8 a! {! E
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with/ |8 X- X# }7 g) x( p

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working" f+ U& ~& M3 P) W
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

3 o$ l# \2 v. Q1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
, O$ K0 f! R/ E$ X7 Gregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 {# C5 Q S6 `& U( ] P
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 [3 a1 R2 g) J/ Q% G9 Tmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.: K6 s0 R3 u7 v4 U5 |
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the( ?0 ^' a- C. y4 Z! S$ ]

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
* Y! ~. ^$ S% \" u! I& s- _! ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating; S8 T; h; F2 L
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility." u% y: b1 O0 {3 D# H5 q
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 _6 f; V3 S( ?9 \6 Baims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
2 |7 Q& ]/ y# b) C4 R) e. qbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 a! `2 K9 X; P" u( V
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ Z4 A; x; z- N8 |' |/ Afacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- l4 r- y% ^+ `. P
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
4 |# b" Q$ x9 x) fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 ?# h! ~) q2 b% V% O; Qmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of& h) b) ^, u" f7 }1 ]: q
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of- M0 D& n# z1 X/ q2 t! F
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
