The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ k1 V2 Y5 F- q( f" lRoles and Functions
2 X% m, c6 n C8 @The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the7 _7 B/ J! v) p1 E S
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 b- m4 Q# r8 _3 t2 l
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
6 G6 ]9 o4 Q/ J5 U: hthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,5 h% K0 o1 }& l
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 p4 b3 j$ q* hboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
p. H: J6 j! J; d' tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an4 _# k: m: W. m4 a
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
" P* |4 [2 N0 `; e; d: n1 O; Bstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
2 e8 d% G% I& _( ~. t4 Vall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
4 F4 e3 W- j- E/ T# o( \! rThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
" h4 I8 V9 i ~8 ]1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
" _1 K8 n4 X+ Q7 forganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations4 t( _2 b+ E& P* [; X- b+ U+ M
and public institutions$ a* s; j$ G: x$ d
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through" Q9 \8 y- R7 m9 Z, F
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives+ {' W3 ~5 Z0 j- N+ T2 t
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 O% |. ?1 C+ \% S# o9 m p% W, rorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

' E+ l8 r2 I. j: f5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
m1 ?" b% k' m' sparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society' C2 i, L+ O% }
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
0 S2 g# d3 F) y( b- u% _8 nwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:, ]9 X& G0 n$ V
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
6 U% f7 `% b# w. n" z8 K9 P& |regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of7 V2 e. o: U9 ]0 f9 Y6 J
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the/ n7 Z- a1 m! n/ a; B: y4 r
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.8 T0 P% p$ Y" o& Z5 G
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the7 F- f9 E8 a2 K

7 H D% g( i4 f) aRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board. I* Z& O) A x' D2 g% a
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to5 G6 Y6 q5 a, P& J/ [0 [4 e" M0 u* Y5 e
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
. F) x A2 h, ~operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
4 y1 s' X% A' P3 b. VThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
0 K0 v* u/ S. Z4 K6 \* G9 caims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
( j% D& ~1 J7 }6 }6 G @be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership% D9 h" a# P2 e3 X; c# ~/ B) T
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and, H) j- I j4 G; ^5 d! i0 z
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of0 h5 T( b) [' r- c6 S$ E
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 {1 A4 c D5 z; j" a5 e
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all7 I- d* d: c4 U2 m' m6 ?* z6 ]$ B/ t
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
. Z- ]: Y! T( g3 ?+ B& `! odirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of/ H: O; o5 U! x& g0 E* Q
policies already adopted3 L$ ]; r c1 K4 V! T+ t

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles
! m4 {5 q. O( |6 Nof immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates
5 T) u M4 H8 Pof funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers
) h7 g+ \( Z: l) ?3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding) ~3 y8 ~0 |/ \+ @

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

community level

Pay Range & Terms
