The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
, w# f; F/ @) R1 x9 R& g- S4 _2 pRoles and Functions9 g% y2 C% ^4 ], C" ]+ Y2 t
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the8 }) V7 d5 X9 T7 Z; u# I' [
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the) D) e( N7 ^$ I: F: z/ I
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
. W& f8 D) u3 S% {+ [* c6 y8 h2 sthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,* `" @' o. ], G4 \9 |
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 r% o" |0 i1 w! ^3 O7 c# k" o8 |) }% n' Gboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
( m/ Q) c6 o9 d, Econducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
w8 O) `/ R) i/ Lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
; Z/ v, D0 u, l3 z! h7 L, c* e7 U4 istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend& f% N" c# R( X! _9 A& y6 X
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
' N, I. \* r' eThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 K, c8 m d4 W1 ^" a
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
( n3 |8 i0 l7 |5 E) `) j+ o, pofficers of the Coalition: j4 y% X! |4 B- Q; F
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
5 ?( J* ^' }2 S9 N( }7 ` y+ Vorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
! {) c: R& G) c: F8 K5 `# \and public institutions+ n$ x w- ^5 N" _
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. n$ T: ?* Z# w) m( pfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives+ x' I" N& o7 e& m5 G* q M( J
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
' e* o. q6 L' torganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with/ U' l5 E3 [0 P, i9 x" Y+ X% E' p

Administrative responsibilities:
! o$ T( w3 U/ Z# S1 A1 A }$ [1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 K7 x5 `# `( X, [5 t
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 u5 p6 |+ \' t5 B
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: q ]9 N9 |. Z; a' fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.1 T. ^1 i( a2 e
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 Y( B( @! h( R P2 Q

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
, t# _: ? D2 ~# M5 u8 S/ r2 JAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
% x) y2 I+ Z( \. }2 \8 {implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating Q8 \( Z( z3 K2 Q: e
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& d ?" F( C6 @
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
1 e6 M! P7 h: V1 }$ c" _$ qaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should" Q. P& G$ F: V: D' J, w
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
$ T( y0 n. ?2 w8 {/ u3 D! m% Jparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
, E$ r+ t& P' h: O% y$ S. t4 pfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
$ e" y7 E: Y T" H, d" Hdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
; T6 v' k/ I. ?$ J2 C1 G. f/ `statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
# ^ i2 g* o7 k/ v' c* N. Hmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
