The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition( f6 G# I' y5 Z9 [2 [+ L7 h/ n
Roles and Functions/ i! O, e8 H( k" g! X2 \6 X1 f+ [% q' A" N- P
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the, N7 r% j6 ^- d' u% K: d4 d2 \* D
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the# o3 m% C) k* t0 ~
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
0 h; b% h" h+ ^+ h4 X1 L7 Fthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,- r' e4 |, O1 t/ d6 U- Z
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular8 U# Y9 k% r q
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
) n/ x1 [, `' B7 {# y4 j9 h8 @1 g1 lconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 B3 N3 x5 Q9 cemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires- v6 E) Y$ J$ d
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
: F# c/ _5 ] R; {" ball board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

3 N" P/ E; q8 I# t$ I4 v5 HFunctions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 \) o4 O7 H* V* [
officers of the Coalition
0 k( w# V( R: `- b: H d6 t2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
" }6 d' W6 ?5 ]2 U- |organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations0 w% Y/ P; T6 L( G( d
and public institutions) C2 R0 X+ Z! J/ T }( S5 ]- j
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through5 [% R( G! g8 E+ w( D
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( L5 e8 ]* r! S
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community- `& ^' N7 J9 Q T. D
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
* _0 C' O! C7 P- Q# x' `2 N9 q/ o) Uthese organizations
! S( P, f$ }8 O( |- V% g5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
% W5 r( \, B Q! W8 v: Z/ `+ w6 Cparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society0 [+ L% B2 z* z2 p1 v+ {/ `
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
8 O: r! @$ o+ E+ Q( i% e* Dwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
3 X/ f! I- J6 Gdiverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:, ? @) h; u T0 `& R5 h
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its* C/ |- y% }* c1 w7 j9 y; X0 F
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
5 u% f- V0 w4 V# {' zdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
, J" t: I! {5 Z: b/ q( k& a ymembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
9 ~- G- c" N7 Z s% T5 ~& q2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 V% K! \. T5 q* y1 Q8 X

" G% D# Q7 K" y! w7 K! U# KAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
) B, z; y; U0 H' x8 R! K, rimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating; k) Q5 N( I; {' [( a% ^( X, Y
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
4 t3 o3 S# j, { X- d9 [The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
+ ]. H5 d7 Y4 i4 p% H. N1 [aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- T' q0 `3 A/ M. v) b3 ~. Lbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership. d5 r7 C3 C `
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
( Q4 {0 N8 ?9 Q3 T3 k- I5 }* Ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
3 ^0 T: S: m/ c+ ]! ~; h* Udirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
2 {$ X: z4 @8 c3 w% l$ kstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all+ o/ F' E: z) s5 B+ k
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
5 {, i/ [' x1 h1 n9 m4 zdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation6 ]7 G) a' w5 Q
for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee3 |9 ^ j2 ~8 N3 n

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles+ L, ~- E: `" O W) J
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates
; @/ b N# ^0 P c: }of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers
: r' }5 B* w, D7 l' Z+ _( ~7 ~3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

community level

Pay Range & Terms
) z" Y. d2 `( P. J+ D# o" c( I% e# ~2 q/ CThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with5 o3 V$ k6 B# o1 `9 p" h
possible extension depending on funding.
