The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition: U* X& g5 O8 E3 a
Roles and Functions
8 K, _$ d* ?9 L* G' w+ uThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
q8 K& c% q5 i5 zorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 O5 v( y/ E# K5 h; t0 @9 ]
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
! ^3 ?: w, V3 H2 e pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 W1 Q% W j7 i+ x6 \
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& D$ S {, b8 v1 d6 [7 [
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& e& u; @- T# R& K2 J U4 h9 s: Gconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 p/ A! A8 J/ J
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% {1 d; B- q( Z6 J F
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) d" ^2 Y5 P7 c$ B' Sall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the6 s2 j7 B8 e* k4 R, D H# s# g
officers of the Coalition4 ?, ^( ]/ f/ u: N! t
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural, \* U7 n0 L" Z0 Q
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
5 F, i% ~7 f' m+ _8 Z6 K6 Fand public institutions2 r# b3 W/ Z0 E {& P
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through1 K9 C: I8 X3 L
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives

5 Z g8 }, x0 p; F9 P: CAdministrative responsibilities:/ C; ?5 y& L; |9 u0 p
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its. z1 _- B' k; B! H3 x& q. |# G
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
+ u- h3 d) W# [directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
6 R5 Z) W) b' X; n& y% y% v J# Qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 B- Y' x3 m6 y4 V2 x! i1 @2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the) y: E0 b8 b T3 F, ^

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
9 r1 t# t. {. P7 b3 |3 [( u* vAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, X0 P0 P0 ~8 k: a5 G/ g O1 r( Pimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating# l, ~3 o0 J: d
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
: \8 V6 M, e$ J, Z9 y, S D$ ?5 X+ z8 lThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and" [ v& W; x% K# o" m, F/ h
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
4 Z. T) B" l( q" c: abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
' f& H8 N+ q3 [2 C; J$ C* Jparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and) }0 }6 S1 R+ u& q- K- h$ W
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
% v& K$ u* B5 cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ z% u1 r3 [+ ?: _
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all2 d, A* w: t' g3 i
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
+ I# c* B- M& s* }! C2 Ldirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of8 \$ C n- ^) h+ h7 y6 q4 Q
policies already adopted
