The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition- R: o6 {1 Z, F1 {+ q( ]
Roles and Functions* t/ m: V' Z+ I. z. v/ c
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the7 u$ ]( q7 U, r' h/ D
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the7 @6 \4 Q( ]0 }
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has! W% J2 k R! s, E8 \
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
$ R1 [" v; \% ]5 Z8 y9 f1 Poperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& E" N( H9 {+ X; b
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 l' G# D) W8 Z/ B6 m1 U$ ~
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
6 L6 J+ o4 `1 R" Z) p vemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
5 a7 t$ j5 H9 w2 ostaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
7 ?9 E; o: }' G" N8 E1 T. Kall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.! L( y+ l- [; S+ i' A5 B& C! ?

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
& R# i5 V* F% a: L1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ Z: J( b6 h2 C" ]' U) N, l
officers of the Coalition
D) z. b* Q% d4 A2 z3 {% O; s2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
: B; B8 N1 m7 ]. h7 _ g# J1 vorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations2 I! M: y1 }1 d) S) q
and public institutions
5 d/ J; ]& ^( i( I( N3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 _/ ?- Y: a0 ^9 Sfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ Q1 ]6 P) v$ I" G$ j0 X( v& L
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community1 n' }8 m4 w) R' X% W
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. h2 K5 q2 l+ ?+ ]+ G$ K

j6 V, E8 z# S* E- @4 M1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" T/ M& K2 v8 j- i9 r) l: B8 D
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
1 s9 ^ I( ?# T7 s# }# y# Adirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
6 Y4 d- L% p. o) |: L; Amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
G9 B- w3 F$ E2 i4 D/ ^2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
9 }. v# M g- L, d9 Y2 Y& p3 @) fMulticultural Coalition. @0 \# ^! ?4 h
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board' {6 p' u: A1 u U/ m
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
6 ]) Q+ e9 a' L5 U% uimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
/ D! h9 m5 e+ I+ i- b7 H( aoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& b' A. `0 }* n! `/ @8 @9 @5 E
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, Q" }3 ]0 g+ l" O1 s9 E( M; {) \5 t ]
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should& L+ a, m3 q1 z: U* W! b! ^; k' P
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* g; t' h5 E; |2 R B- l2 U
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
/ @# {% Q$ k" r6 [1 V2 w% X- Jfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of' V; z1 L6 s, U0 C% ^( J
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial, o D4 S) \/ X
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all& g" w7 a \; w, S) u" I
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
% `& W& z, g4 sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles+ S1 h4 S% f" `5 T
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates- A4 v+ `3 @0 [! ^
of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and* n* |/ y E8 I! e2 {; A' `8 B. x

any related field is desired

Pay Range & Terms
9 p+ o' @' u8 g* G0 g( MThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
