Roles and Functions7 V' J* E$ N8 g1 V
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
" _! f [7 U! j8 Worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
' O/ ]9 O: M+ N( h* N7 c- j: {( C- woperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
% b$ M, A2 P, I o4 B* |3 Pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,' M9 v7 _ x. [2 ? j
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 t. {9 R0 y! Q* o+ ~, L) o
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is$ [& N) ~( [4 x0 S
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
7 p4 q2 i1 h6 v6 r4 Aemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
' e9 b! |( U1 jstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
/ t" J+ K# P, `all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant. F# L1 ]" N0 a9 g. K+ h7 [

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
* i9 B% O9 y0 A0 Aofficers of the Coalition
0 g! K e: e# A7 n7 D3 Q, Q7 M2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural, ^ o0 H6 @2 U5 ~/ F) _! s
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, q& x W& z, \# V. Iand public institutions
: g/ }; p. Z; @5 ~8 A5 H2 ^" k$ R3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through

4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community, t! p- A2 R k: W n

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically& m6 _' M9 _" }! p- w# R; k6 l
diverse backgrounds; s7 y4 O# y1 {
, R+ ]8 N5 r! m& a" q; ]Administrative responsibilities:0 D5 r% W2 g- M1 o) ]4 q$ O4 p2 S
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
# O. a: q0 ^5 E! H2 C( iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of0 K2 m/ x0 r3 Y+ Q
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the1 ?1 k0 O6 j, ]$ p0 |, N ~
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
; x! u6 A# L. W$ R3 g2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
2 i! Y, d! a: \, @Multicultural Coalition8 g8 y6 q- ^ l
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board& M9 m; @8 R9 [) ?
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" R8 ]5 [2 S9 Q; ?, R0 B" ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating6 H9 c$ Y! W" d, s( H
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.9 {1 N( a W* S! ~. d
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and% @) s) E. W* `- O# M; \4 g- o
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should4 b: p3 [, H6 `+ p" p2 d
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership% c' F; k, K! L8 ? F/ c# E! }
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: e% K' X! [) H% {: n# G0 _
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
4 O- S5 g0 i9 M# W6 b0 t+ _& {directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial$ t# ?# B4 x* M4 B
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all

directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding; v5 q7 i, W1 p( l7 S! V
