Roles and Functions4 o8 k* v/ J1 @. V
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 h* G/ t: V5 K& g2 V: y# oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the. l n* Q' d5 r5 Z8 j
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has! K8 L1 l% b9 p: p3 G- P
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
: n# j6 u' [8 w: yoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
" D! r: p% p Z: b! O. ~board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" \* @; a+ ]) P& K+ Iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an7 a% q% H: B+ r& R7 K, y; B
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
! w! C) k& W9 f0 ?3 N6 g; estaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! `- ^% ^2 u3 [9 A- Oall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
& W% s' ]7 r* ?/ t0 g5 R8 Q1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
* S$ ? h1 g; u- h9 W5 yofficers of the Coalition* x' @0 G) H9 b# t; ?) F3 h
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
) U! z/ w9 x; u8 Uorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations! h& I3 r( ?5 d' C
and public institutions$ A6 \* H/ b7 K5 O
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 I; _, {% U1 T- \$ |6 jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
2 u3 R1 L) O! Y5 w% L4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
7 v6 T; w! C% ^8 r B# Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

Administrative responsibilities:3 C7 n7 F9 I* o. x9 x1 e& [
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its2 ^# f; ~5 x! }; b6 i' Z1 G! q
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
6 \7 {6 d. x% K9 S" |" P9 K: ]$ \directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the: n: k; ]/ _9 c g c# @' F- z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition." u1 R0 f0 x3 H$ K; ?& i
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; w1 Q. H8 p9 dMulticultural Coalition
# b5 e- }% T" I6 H3 kRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
: V N) x& A3 l: ~8 c5 zAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to/ a. M% j* x: ^+ v
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 b' z' X3 ~6 w& V& d2 O, s1 K
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. Q- f7 u1 Q/ B9 J' [8 F3 b5 L& [
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
: L2 o. E/ |2 P5 s) R) c' V' [4 jaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- R2 o7 |9 } Z2 U
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership1 l$ u% I& }3 M1 {& ^$ M1 T3 _2 S
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and/ Y' @5 B/ ~- t; V
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 i4 G: o; `* I, Y9 Y' {) l. O, Ndirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 m0 g& U, b# M% Wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all2 n5 G. S. _" _/ E, f
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- I; h5 ^" P" Q" sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and5 Y" G" g# Y% l; o! w

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

Pay Range & Terms

possible extension depending on funding.
