Roles and Functions; y7 i6 J) t, A/ x, ~
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ k& b' o; U, r/ |organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 M9 b$ B. n& X
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
$ g7 n* n3 _( j1 ]6 K9 x+ xthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,0 {5 i8 Y# z5 @5 K
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 W) h; _; B K+ r. \board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
, @) j* H% Q7 a% T" ?conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
2 T$ [/ z1 p+ J3 oemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 J. b: s* N& X- M# y0 X- j5 e) P* i/ b
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend& |4 _) X6 R5 ~3 F5 Z$ [7 ^0 u
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 Q1 |" p. n8 n* L5 G% ^0 E

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
) d- ^- V8 B9 wofficers of the Coalition
* _& B0 E9 ^$ d4 W( ^% w0 m2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
% f: W( B+ j% m! {organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 e0 V8 K( O+ Oand public institutions& a# _( O: @' o# s0 a% G- ]
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. K9 Y; M# p7 V: ?
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ k% T* Z3 H$ s9 e/ H/ w0 l6 ]/ l
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
' V6 u( o6 E5 uorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community7 B( ^8 f2 f1 e" v4 J" c$ k5 M, b+ J

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:5 [8 t. o5 `' P5 q
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 e3 K, o/ ~( i) {! k
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
+ A9 X' @' ~8 r* sdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the u1 T6 c8 t* V+ X
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ c# H, v. r3 i! B- c9 U2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
R3 D$ M* N$ }- ]$ `" f, tMulticultural Coalition
6 ~3 E9 b5 v% I$ sRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board4 x; b; o7 ~ M8 ]; f3 v/ N# g
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to, @/ S0 }+ M$ w& z s
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 M# C4 N2 i' ^, W" ]/ T
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; e! U: [: ^) x
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' p4 `: A! q K1 {! W
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should1 a# o' ^3 E* O' {, f* @: P
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
+ Y0 ~0 y( b8 P! @participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and' ]1 \# h/ e% g
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 x4 ], D2 ^+ P3 j1 sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
2 p6 h& A- S$ k- y! v' xstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
a+ n& p \& `1 E( Y( Nmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
, M1 g3 r4 }6 x1 S5 vdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles) K! Q/ G3 k9 ~9 h
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding
