The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
& m0 N7 m$ Y$ R2 j: ]5 H. dRoles and Functions
# M" ~) d( m% J2 [$ @6 v( i5 KThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 @5 Z! ^$ s- c, s. L4 V8 K# L6 Jorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
) N0 ]0 y! l0 P2 a" L+ k6 moperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
, s- B6 c0 ]. [$ w/ bthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
G# A+ O8 x7 W. n' Doperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) ~, Q) U$ G# k5 }4 \! `- {board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" a' d) N1 Q. L# z5 I; Bconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* `, h& y% F4 b4 O1 P3 h7 _$ h
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires- `: F4 }4 S: h3 }# T2 F
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% @% W+ b1 t5 n) l4 zall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

4 S+ ^$ f/ J7 C" F& zThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 `7 l9 [& X) ~$ z% @3 I7 X4 v
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( N+ j# N+ J8 w+ ]3 o
officers of the Coalition2 n' J/ ?* r6 R
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural$ W& z; D/ x- ]9 B Y" M
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations" X1 V! F5 f9 N) w
and public institutions
. N5 c0 c% v- s( I3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& m! A* D2 i& k0 z+ v, ^funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ g; X5 T) u) E+ r
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
8 m& k1 p" v7 s, c' E0 \, _2 C7 oorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with& I) N/ U1 K' `* L& [
these organizations

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic7 t9 Z# z2 z" M! g
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society1 \! s2 b4 j) \8 n3 o: q
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working1 g8 A0 r; `$ [/ a! f& [4 c W
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically" {& s8 z3 j, d% b2 U9 X
diverse backgrounds

: H- u' [+ z7 W+ e$ y$ _! NAdministrative responsibilities:
r; ^1 V) V- o7 b6 m1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its9 ]0 n5 ~& N9 ~. e8 F: x! i; z
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; ~2 \, F5 x& J- t& @% q! O5 i9 z+ Rdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! ^: m$ G0 t* Y& M$ ]8 ?
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.( R `; Z, e: Q7 Q) T" i; v, N
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
! P5 W# A2 V1 L" XMulticultural Coalition
% x b, n2 s) e; eRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
6 H6 k, c1 q5 g1 V, a" eAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ f" z8 l' ]' B x
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
/ q6 i2 j% x2 _2 Voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
" y5 o* }# I) D0 }! t+ |3 R7 c' D! fThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and# b! s. [" J& |/ Z' t
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
, `$ ?1 g S( Y! c( Mbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 ?/ S5 f8 l6 Z: C# x: c, C9 c/ w
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
5 g5 d: g7 W* Y# @0 R) X5 M) o' O1 f/ Zfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 r: }) d" k9 v- D3 [6 S- vdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
/ p0 k. p. |, r0 C% ystatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
% ~# d: U# }! L- K+ j6 \# [# smatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
0 [# ?6 O+ W2 r7 _directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of$ y6 J) s; s3 p3 V+ h7 B

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
