Roles and Functions ]& ]% I" p4 f0 F
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- ?3 x c0 M' s, D' O4 c! m8 yorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the: X7 \) d, P2 ]* Q0 p
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ N6 L7 d$ A$ _- r/ b
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' F: T$ s, m$ i6 |operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
. w" g b/ Z, h# Q' T9 T5 K9 sboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' x* b* M1 l4 b9 w1 ]2 p$ {9 p
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
9 l/ p4 P+ b+ p* `3 p: lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
9 }7 D, ]1 F& Pstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
0 s ?' X b5 I" \( c7 ^8 qall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.& {% f0 M/ H3 P- p3 t, N
# i* n6 n' v) N) jFunctions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the6 B5 U) O) o7 Z' G
officers of the Coalition
6 \. F- e/ n, J4 ~2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural, q# T4 G3 J# z/ {7 T5 i% p
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations- I% @% N2 R6 ?! k7 D6 n$ p
and public institutions
$ |2 Q ~1 O: q5 v; O) O3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through6 N @; {3 V/ d( G0 Z. e9 J
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( t# Z4 E* O2 a+ G6 r! [0 s: O
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
' r0 `3 ~0 K: q" x2 p7 ~- l6 ~organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

% `/ J5 w% W0 W4 R+ ?Administrative responsibilities:
* ?! }1 M# a7 J$ [6 {, L& N, h1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
" f0 q5 d$ `) v( d8 ?regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of9 T* [; J0 @4 \ B" T
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
0 m, _* j5 \% ^members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' s0 u7 U# P; M) T
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating0 I/ a$ {. z! q! j# Y
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
( x& n3 R5 a' h! ~& xThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and# {$ |) w- h. A O, F
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ a* D9 t& }% \' [1 r* Bbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 i( k/ r* A9 K% A4 x; s" g
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and( A& U8 y# r, X2 @8 F
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of# _+ A# P% X& h1 }) m% T5 ^0 a
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial# Q9 T. ~3 u- |) `4 y# J. d
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
3 e6 G. {( U tmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation
