Roles and Functions5 Q. H d9 l5 p0 z6 M
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
, p+ O: o9 [9 h& C' i3 Gorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( u4 V7 ], F% A& yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has. M) |! T" K) }
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 s6 @+ P; u& B3 {
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular S% V- W0 J. H% |
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" x& J! L/ n, z3 I& h3 uconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an/ J F+ y) {" | [+ T8 q+ d
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
7 ?, S5 M- J( n7 P2 Hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:

. G( j5 o$ [' r- s2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 F/ }5 ]7 s3 U9 A9 W
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations

2 U' I3 a. r9 E3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 ` D% l8 L: N$ a9 z7 O
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives% `0 |8 f/ y; @ i# B
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
9 o% i+ o) ]; `' [5 K2 }; Vorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with }& m# D6 b z: a9 e( s' u

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its) R/ l& o8 v! O& c' F5 U/ w
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
4 y* Y0 D- |( P4 r9 `% wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
; U) X, y: ~' |9 a' q) ~0 cmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.: t, ]' |0 H, n; v I) s
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; C. x* o& [. q! V3 N7 |Multicultural Coalition
5 [, l1 f, |6 z% `! dRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
+ N. Q& P, u, C: p$ RAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, p) q+ C7 X* S. d7 Eimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
7 {4 y! b7 \# V: H4 d% h& D$ R" eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
; q+ A. }) \& H. w2 {' UThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and/ w2 [$ ], C+ [3 T2 M# i# [
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
, r. D4 W/ m ]2 V! Kbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership; O: y3 n0 ~% {
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
. G" B2 ?0 {- Y: a+ L% h, Cfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- f$ Z+ A; ?/ i5 `( c- P$ _# wdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial8 ~" j# t% c: P1 x
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all6 l7 Z& {: ~ _6 n
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of1 M) q( K- f: g, T% l$ Z6 e
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of. P- m7 h, Z' O6 a( E

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
