The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
- B$ Z8 B+ O7 v9 PRoles and Functions, Y# I, p; j- l( P, |/ r
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
9 p* \9 M' W% z5 aorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 c9 B& g$ O! a& Ioperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) S/ j' m" `: i: v1 f. e
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' H# e) L' A$ b4 Joperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
, r n$ o, `3 C+ s! b2 {( S9 Jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is, V7 ?7 a' ^: ^
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 A% a! D" M" E+ e! s
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# R7 c2 m9 Y+ u8 ^( h. c0 Zstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
s. s: g4 q3 j- L9 ?all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ p2 a+ [2 B [7 o, d
+ c+ O# r( F8 O8 K+ m4 b. }$ KFunctions and responsibilities:
1 z" u! i9 C4 W$ t3 ^The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:8 u# S3 ~1 y2 G# \% \% T3 q7 ?
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
! x& o0 k' d2 f8 ^3 uofficers of the Coalition0 n* _; {1 _; s5 z. t! }& N# @
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
0 e, d( r# R' l/ ]organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( m% M( A7 c6 g
and public institutions6 ]8 I1 C7 c& B( z: Z/ ~2 {
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through2 `8 ^# _7 A$ X) m: x0 |+ h$ u, D
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
# ^" B4 v4 v7 q! {+ }9 p8 x4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
) M7 v. Y5 A3 C6 a+ vorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with$ j, d: \( I, p
these organizations9 r+ m6 d% H: `7 W" S1 h5 u: e
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community
" @! C6 ^. }, B! `: m. |leaders
- }/ z; q6 H7 u6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
9 K. ?( }9 B9 T U" R ^* Z6 N- swith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

3 q4 ~$ E ?( x$ I& Y T& `Administrative responsibilities:! ~; _. l' A; m# B( s$ F
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its0 C+ Q9 I4 d, B" W q
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of& `+ M1 K: O. c3 V
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the1 ]) T+ e* k; R8 p$ B
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
; B4 z& P" v$ u, g( u2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
5 H& F, r; H; f2 W, x* {) |3 kMulticultural Coalition
% ?9 w9 k, v+ f( @( H! \2 m5 GRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board& g% r* W0 n( d8 N1 D, {
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
2 w* I6 J3 R+ u9 |implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
2 X' Y! L! j' C- Soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.8 F1 ~% a F/ s+ \
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and t$ _4 J$ B9 [7 n7 V1 E }
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! ]3 w; P2 [8 Z/ r% _& e3 O
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
' U) D% ]- q* r& `; Sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
3 D, }# Q, E/ U: ]4 b5 P) \facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
; h% c% R; M- G6 J0 Q ?7 kdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial1 V3 m- y: M, `" x2 z4 u% ^& o% [& H
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all* Q1 S. S$ Z B8 ~0 O' S; r
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an, { p& M e" p* i. C& D

7. Community based research skills is an asset

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the5 L; b7 T3 {3 ]
community level
9 x% g4 I2 f' v10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
