The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition) N, a- L \/ Z* Y, N
Roles and Functions
8 w1 A4 V3 r# b1 wThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ O$ `6 d7 |; A7 V+ ^7 uorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
. D+ D7 c. k, B" Foperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
6 G2 h3 g3 `7 D8 Q" sthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,. s: h* Y+ S+ M* S! ?) k
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular1 L( y; w0 g: s9 X6 X
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
, n8 h% i" K" T, f& ^conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: v1 B4 x' \$ l9 o9 K }5 K
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
" H+ j! P% n! W$ Y9 q; A" x0 Hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend, B2 y% M8 K% Q( f; _8 a& }( R
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ a5 D4 [6 a/ N$ i/ L& N$ N8 ^

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:, t* `: A: a# U$ H
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
& u" f" d! f! ^ |5 |officers of the Coalition) ?3 T$ I% k! i5 U
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural+ m0 R) p. i7 u5 Q- U \4 G
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
* i" Q5 Y2 n( W) q- O+ A0 Eand public institutions7 g. L2 K! w& m6 U2 _0 \0 G$ p. x/ j
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ V8 |' U. p) R# d. {funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
( L1 z$ P1 t3 E O4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
5 X7 d6 ^8 m" jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community! Q" {! b0 V* `( ]2 C

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:8 U+ l* A$ s* b$ @6 d+ z$ x. J% k
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 m& n* s; X$ k1 P" ^regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 f! E8 o4 j) D/ I3 l% L) P( l9 v
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the% b/ y# [) S, f( z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
( P: K# P, A0 ?2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the& ^0 A4 r+ O' Q: |4 q' U

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to) T/ y; ~$ M2 t" G# C
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating& d. v! p! Z' Q
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.9 t1 K) @3 F) f s& y
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
' D D# O* |8 }9 h! k, b$ `. K0 ~; caims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should0 Q$ i' |' H( M/ |% f3 g! P: U
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
/ r) K: k, Y1 m4 Vparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
7 e; o7 ~7 | o8 Z% s4 Jfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of) z9 {: }8 W7 d* o0 G' M( e; K2 i
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
! R2 p& U; E1 j; c( ?9 C$ Bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
5 p V* s( p4 ^; Q8 ~- v& ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( @) i4 Q# N8 Y8 |0 v" e8 U! v& I6 Jdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

community level

Pay Range & Terms
