The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
0 z! ^ e2 R/ u5 h1 @8 |Roles and Functions1 H, z8 ^7 g! ]. b. ^
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the7 w% O/ i2 U9 C9 C- e
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
$ I, }9 e$ c/ n0 e, N! a+ goperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has8 x6 z7 ~; p9 N- M
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
4 \9 V# j* A0 N4 D9 p6 yoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
# l. l: |6 h* m% f! k# fboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is1 V9 T/ r) M8 B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
" w9 u; p6 b. d) @2 N8 O Yemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# q8 Y V4 C# W( b7 n" S9 O& T$ ^staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# B7 g$ u3 ?2 \# \+ v# z3 F9 F
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:" C6 V" r L7 P0 g1 x! K
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the. @. o* v& ~+ z7 `- [& U
officers of the Coalition
8 C" h( r4 L7 r2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
$ R0 W0 o0 U& ^9 ~% W$ g9 vorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
3 b$ J3 X' a \$ Cand public institutions
! t. W: `5 m3 Z3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through& A3 U( t7 ~) S' F' u
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
8 q4 T( Q0 o, b v- _4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
6 d0 z$ ]$ _; u: uorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with) L) m* r3 x/ Q' j- ?( F

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 [; M7 R3 R9 Fregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; ?1 d- [8 p0 j8 ?% S% f! D! ydirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
; N/ [9 z5 ?% I8 A6 |4 `" wmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
) Z9 M3 J, w$ Y5 `1 u1 k; _' H$ c2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
9 J6 a3 Q j" `% U) \Multicultural Coalition

) k* R( _9 A' \ rAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 k! p8 F8 R M2 m& yimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating) P3 A2 G" q# `$ C" J7 i1 `2 |
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 I7 Q9 U: v. t, c; T
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and- t% ?# l1 _- h! V
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
0 ? E5 Q L2 J; Kbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
|( r( I5 m3 V) r2 V# Dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ p( z0 ?: _- sfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" {+ q8 Z" g# K6 T6 B
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- X# n6 J* s% K) W, @0 L2 H
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
% \& U0 }0 s2 v) u3 r' u, {matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ W( q. t0 C. z' m
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of3 |: M9 l4 M+ C7 [1 L t8 ]9 D: `
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
