The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ X& P2 n X) p$ f" B0 BRoles and Functions) S0 ]% ~+ X* J1 X) `5 H
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 Y' |, Z( `) [- G5 }# `organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 r6 X* O. H9 J$ H" O) C, j: aoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 V4 A' B& k+ E: @' o4 Vthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 D4 |) p1 |9 O% J
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
( b5 {5 A& z7 i! t4 i" aboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
t7 ]8 ~/ ^, Y+ D; {. Iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
) ^: Q9 D8 \/ c l' ~employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
7 |+ H% w9 D4 B! [8 ~ [staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 Y" ]) }) J. A) p. _ O2 y, Qall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
, k" |" H9 {! o4 T a3 d! n O: g R @1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
* F8 V" p& E. H) ~0 j- wofficers of the Coalition
1 F* y$ w5 N* e2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
2 f0 T. Z8 B" n! g' X0 v$ U" I" Porganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
" m% L, o( X5 d! v8 Wand public institutions( k3 V, X" B) v- V
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. k U0 m6 K C- O
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
: b' r. S* G/ J5 k w1 z. _4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
9 p4 q+ B& P& O% |" @& Norganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community6 j# Q) ]8 J5 q4 A

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic+ u) G; r1 A$ ?& \
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
( y' Q4 g( P% `. w, F$ f3 }7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working6 r6 d2 G' \9 I8 q
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically1 W0 @' q" |3 w9 l _5 x! S

8 M/ K+ ~# @/ F: d: BAdministrative responsibilities:
) d, o. N. Z- C; v2 l1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
u) c! i3 F" M% Y+ {3 H. D& [; ~regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of. k* f+ p% G" W# F
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the9 R; X7 `" g0 q: z- c
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
" z* Q" S- \* U0 z/ }+ D$ P2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the- p( S# l3 G( G0 B2 e( M; K7 ]5 q! `

) L4 k3 ~! a) @# N3 CRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board$ s* V! `1 S4 L! N0 ~: Y
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 P: T* J! m& R Oimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" H r6 x. t* U& k- g
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
( G, E& c+ c( |! a3 v; o @, VThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, N. f& X! \& M7 y) K
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
* C* S Q; C. O5 obe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
$ S9 x: C% G8 L+ E: jparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
' ]. s, m2 K& _5 K# p1 Rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 \4 U. s# ^0 A F' r A$ F4 cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- M5 R* O1 H- |2 R9 ^* K& e( pstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
5 E6 ]: _. B5 E: t$ hmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

Pay Range & Terms
, ]7 R- }' {8 K, bThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
