The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition; o, f/ `/ N% I! Q# ]6 e
Roles and Functions
" _ N% v: z I- w2 cThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; u d, v# j) y) xorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ W! U5 Y9 b* ?" F
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has! x @/ Y$ `- ^; f- ]
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,; u/ z) N s" ?- H+ z0 t
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular% b: v* k Q+ n; c2 E. g7 w
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% s0 s" {- ^8 }& [- rconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! z. f" \5 K$ }; D5 B, B" eemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
4 n Q/ V1 K4 i/ Q. o$ Z# dstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend& L9 \- J' z: g, [3 [8 C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 E' o1 \6 Z2 P, E; y
2 U* i* n8 {6 }! u6 bFunctions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
6 F# F+ ~6 {3 P2 yofficers of the Coalition* |7 ~! @! k& k! ]; b8 M3 I
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
0 R* ]! @: Y) Zorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations6 ~# u) W$ u* s- q5 r" V4 \
and public institutions, B0 N% h6 U$ M( b
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
/ A3 Q* B5 h' C: s& m2 s! ^6 Tfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
$ b1 Q# D! U/ L3 k4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community2 o, y* T& x5 L7 \) `9 U. n, V
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

0 D; {; `: u! n' @- m: g5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic D" u+ n! H5 q
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society% `- G5 ~. r( p8 P) o6 h
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working' |+ c$ A% o$ @# D8 i
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
! c, @3 w- q$ ~ B2 Wdiverse backgrounds

- s8 r% S8 g( ~Administrative responsibilities:& U4 R4 N D; O# F
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
& X6 z" C4 g' V8 n3 d5 yregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
$ m! }/ t5 K2 R5 ~1 P3 e, [+ y: Sdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the% f- H E8 L! ]" N' P* o# Y
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
% w% f) j; D+ n4 J2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
4 m, b- G& i$ k3 aMulticultural Coalition/ d, |; a1 j/ s( ^4 a$ m. h4 }
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board- j* d! F6 p1 m$ k; Q
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" V6 N6 C1 A0 P( X# o" Ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
. A. D% V, S! a& T* h6 a' p, Roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.* `6 n& C; h6 ~$ _' ] ]# c- W
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
. R6 i$ H" q Q! S2 Q# f! Saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should5 S+ A+ n x- s. p* A
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
/ _1 ^7 }. R6 z J. ?% `participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and7 k$ N# H6 x: V( D% h
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
/ v+ a6 I/ Y% a. Tdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial1 }# U% j0 y+ i! j
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all; ^, A8 G- b4 I' i, @% R3 {
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
+ R) t4 _; n5 b V* o4 L- Mdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of9 }& g. ~+ ^+ K) |4 Q
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding
