The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition. q# g5 e& l. o# P+ W4 O
Roles and Functions$ v; v' ^+ X6 E& r( d* ^
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the; h9 |, h. w* I1 C
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ B) P9 B8 L' ]3 R9 a( x. n
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 H" o, c& ~$ Athe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 W# B5 u8 q ]2 R# Q d
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular: |, V& g( b" z) x
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is/ F- M2 E+ ]' o6 `$ t4 c
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an' c7 Q) k- [! a8 U: \
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% ?) d8 @# Y1 q) I
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

, J7 ?& d8 m+ G, x' t1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the# F* [& c) e" I W! n% a
officers of the Coalition
: _) W, K# q/ \1 f3 m I( Q, l- _% e* P2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
' X& j6 Z& m3 S. m8 B+ e( }organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
1 }$ k, Q" g/ Z5 Vand public institutions
$ w* z# z- M( d0 ~. ]3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through& W" k4 Q7 K. [# `2 L/ H! U* j& Q
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives* ?5 Q3 q- E6 i; N# U5 K, [
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community9 L! Z: b- I; `9 O
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

leaders

' j# `# w: e. X5 m% A* b( M' a1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its

: t: Q- Y: w& X. r. e% `0 wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
3 Q+ ?+ _' x2 Pmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
* E0 ~: e- d" w& C+ S) I3 f* R2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
/ b2 C* n9 R, W0 \All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
) t: _5 c0 _" Q0 u6 H# L7 \- ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ n+ I' S3 W* [- Woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.1 y s* ^- m& W V& i
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
5 l @' \" Q4 S: _4 s7 a$ v haims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should( h$ Y2 i0 @1 T9 ?! j
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership( }/ ~2 E: A1 Z% z
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and+ M% ~% S1 G/ j: Q* I3 P
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of+ B1 l B4 S8 s( u+ T. ?9 V J
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial9 ~% A$ g. {4 V/ W
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 N3 p! H9 K r0 Wmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
. M6 i# j& u" ~( Jdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
