The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition/ W& Z: p/ b% `4 ^3 H( G; K
Roles and Functions
) F$ `- v* g: [' b% V4 Q7 SThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 \! S" I% R' v- n
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& e! S) \5 ?# [) V0 ~5 V8 D, @( k& yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
% Q# a- B& |3 ]3 c4 A/ }" J+ @the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
N& o6 y5 O L! x: u; Xoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular/ a5 o. @! T9 X; E1 f9 v Z
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
. ?+ v5 o9 t: Q2 B: zconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
" C; }8 x" r0 k. W6 \* Jemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires$ j) c9 Z* u2 G) q1 ]
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. O8 n, [: h" d5 ?0 q: T3 r
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Y, l; C& I+ G& W# b# tFunctions and responsibilities:
) l d3 K, G1 j! k5 i6 _' n- \The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:5 N" k& s$ m. }. H! t& Y' d4 d. b+ P; L
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
8 y9 l3 C/ d3 B, g" {& `officers of the Coalition7 ^" Y( E* H E) n l2 j4 x1 }/ I- n
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural$ W$ _: F" D# T# A
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations& Q6 m8 H0 k1 A
and public institutions
, { p: E8 G# K/ m ]' r& p3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
4 v1 U* C' _# f0 K7 Hfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives" Q/ i& Q! |, s Z
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
+ B1 v# v- X& @6 g5 ^organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with& R# @9 o4 r& h3 m' `% `) p; `

* `8 b/ X% Q8 g- _$ r" A' CAdministrative responsibilities:
1 i5 E/ \4 q* F7 w$ k; z* v' V! `1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its$ f Y& X9 F# T8 F3 N, z
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of+ ]: N0 O0 N( d* Y0 M: f1 W
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
( s$ [ u9 K; \3 @" } ]: d- x6 wmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

+ L+ _9 C! l7 I1 URelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 m* @7 d" |2 m5 U' BAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
4 B! @6 w& I4 F- Iimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating0 o% B4 E8 Q" R ?) C7 y0 x0 v$ l
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility." Z' q3 W, N! g* K9 ^' J
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and& M5 ~: Q& [4 P1 t9 g) k8 N' _
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should9 V$ j+ Q; J2 p# j2 J* H
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( I3 @0 O$ Q- R# oparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
) {3 O8 W5 J, z0 \. L$ Q5 E$ ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of8 F' i% ]. F4 a8 M% g
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 G4 X6 l( o. z# fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
5 t6 w! ^: W* V4 |) w1 tmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
0 K, ~1 P4 I( R9 Wdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers

Pay Range & Terms
