The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
7 b. J3 T* |8 _* Worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the3 ^4 K/ l( v# p U; h) M" v; `
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
" n4 o1 C* Y& u; M' O2 P% Jthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,/ f* @6 s5 R2 N" d
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular, _$ l' d, Y8 I$ [& n6 y |. }' n
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is9 h; O2 N6 V$ p4 `; W
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an' ]1 O8 _% `3 P) Q- k9 J. t1 ?0 I
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 X5 Q( E9 b& D9 Q' Y8 r
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend2 Y* Y* P# q' \
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.3 N6 T: Z* h1 n3 w% B3 ^! Y

Functions and responsibilities:- C; i6 I7 _: O; E5 o
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 R4 l7 w; z, L. v& L" v
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the0 b. g+ E+ U3 b3 \2 J1 ]
officers of the Coalition
3 u3 l3 r" L! U2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
' G! k& {7 i, t/ ?6 m- m. ]" Eorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
+ k0 d' ~2 |; q3 [5 Xand public institutions+ m2 B* p8 r# [5 W& Z' s
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. L; M b6 o F+ X' y
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
' m, z; G* N9 h. [! M) L+ e: u$ W4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
+ z( r4 K! Y. G+ u; F; ]9 m4 {organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with! u6 [' h% S2 O. m0 e' I- |5 ^ H

diverse backgrounds

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its8 \! C: k! G. O! v8 J
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of0 L* W8 r/ {+ L# A, \4 z5 r
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the- H. z6 {0 @- c2 B6 G
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.. a, P( O# r3 N$ ^ C4 @1 y. E
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

7 G Y" u, m& G& {6 v5 }5 a qRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board3 E6 }( ] N/ J5 G
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# _ }% L$ a {8 m6 c$ v, s V- R* L3 ?
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating4 g3 T! z2 d. o4 g2 R( {
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
; J7 e U' S/ GThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
& O1 r* I1 q8 c4 O# d, eaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
p5 d, W( S% \ xbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
- d- p3 S" H( g, Pparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
6 y! [% _" t9 R5 \facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of' ^( Q: S; A$ [4 Q8 w4 d& O! l
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial; a/ U& i- P. ^ c& ~
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
% O4 E7 ^. @. v" bmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of2 P. N. C) k( Q9 D4 T R: L
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of; f& k+ ^' a8 r
policies already adopted

possible extension depending on funding.
