The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition: E# O8 k# @0 C5 j
Roles and Functions
/ @3 N. S. F; n& N* t( R7 L# oThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: Q' ]+ [# s& O2 H1 B5 worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
5 k W1 T/ H( |% v1 A; ?" P( noperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 T, P/ Q6 }1 z; wthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 i# h7 _; \& I1 Q
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
0 z- {0 @+ P9 n- o0 _. hboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is8 [ B" T2 _* f, e) o0 C
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an/ [3 y2 T3 h1 F! E
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires( C# \6 V$ ]3 q
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! c3 Z/ G* c- h, l3 S8 ~all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.# v- D( C8 O& K4 E# j6 s

Functions and responsibilities:) J/ E8 F2 h0 j: w& U3 K
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
8 ~# [, ]3 q, V4 F6 D1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the" }! G% ^: I" N% m
officers of the Coalition
* h/ v! T. e7 x2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural" c+ r8 \: g# Y
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations* {+ j( F, Z$ q
and public institutions
D% t7 Z, p4 ]. b& s3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* W8 v+ M/ d" f [2 R/ ffunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
# }9 L( K, E- j% Y( {4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community8 g5 D2 Q* _( t2 M9 e2 z
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
5 X2 k$ _3 h2 s' m& ]3 Z) nthese organizations
+ i% A7 U* s8 a5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community5 n; m. R$ z! k% I x- L
leaders
: \; u. d( g9 }) @, _6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
$ ?: v: v8 T6 }2 E/ f6 J+ k( vparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society8 j5 N/ W$ s; D
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working1 s( y- v! h2 C( J4 b- H
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
4 u, q6 W% N$ W9 q$ D( ~ @; w1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
% x4 N+ {# T9 E5 \, |regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
6 x- K% {" `7 H( U5 c5 Kdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
1 O% M: `5 _1 P& N9 {- z; Kmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.# v0 U' T, K5 z: A
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, V8 R/ Z1 L4 ]9 J7 W; N4 I* }: L- pMulticultural Coalition& O- d' _& z9 ?! T! s. R
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board; A2 ^. Y6 K; A% d6 b7 s
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: ?" }) Z! P; wimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 D4 r* S' R _' xoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& f& k% T( _4 h" o8 X2 H: {
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
4 d) j7 b. t5 X* U5 E ]aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! A6 c: K, v5 r
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: |$ a( N6 n I' d3 ~participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 k$ R7 B& G2 E( \( e! V) C
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 ^3 S4 B b9 X' U- L4 ?directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial: X( |- ~8 y% ?/ C6 ~
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all, N8 C0 b. h' n( L4 C U
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of/ ^/ Y2 c2 t- ^+ T( u
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of* J) x @1 B9 {
policies already adopted$ d; d% S! y( u

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

7. Community based research skills is an asset

any related field is desired

community level

Pay Range & Terms

possible extension depending on funding.
