The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition8 x' B z+ U' F# {- D k0 J
Roles and Functions7 B1 U7 g! k: M& r1 K
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the; \1 Y$ Y( I! _: v
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 E1 w5 c3 [" Z; W# b: w
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
- Y8 ~# D/ x* E# Cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
) D, ?8 Z: A5 }7 U/ D+ A* u* @( uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
$ r) I; {) p3 p ^9 H2 g; H- bboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is8 B" [2 W0 R& h& p' {! d
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
$ v% Z$ @+ o4 X6 kemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
! E: x# n$ G/ J2 m+ X5 Ustaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ Y/ k6 q3 {; o! [8 Pall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
# ?( |4 F1 U& i& O5 Z9 iThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 E$ ^$ x p8 h6 c' y( `5 q
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( d" y2 ^, {2 Q
officers of the Coalition
j. U% M" x( ?) J; |: R2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
; o; W! D, w; R8 Yorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
( v3 Z4 F/ n0 D/ d7 m. y5 g; Cand public institutions
9 S1 U% a, w) M B, z, R. A3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through1 u7 W5 g& O5 ?1 l* p& {: L" \
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 {4 G2 e) F2 u
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community7 R4 g+ ^1 p. h, [
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with- e6 A3 m( u# N U- o4 c

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

Administrative responsibilities:; g: l/ A& } W6 m5 f6 J2 k2 ]" J# T
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
" C3 {8 J8 J4 x2 ^8 _9 V; xregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 S% `& n( }- ^5 k+ x* Qdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
; R) R: P- V0 C5 F) s2 f1 gmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
3 c6 h; v3 g& |5 ?' i2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the2 g6 P, _4 u( m

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board* J) o6 G2 b: t' T1 }9 i. v1 n' P( w- \
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" @" i% v- p+ o! }implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating' a3 |* G3 h3 u, V2 \
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
. F$ b* ]( ^/ v9 |9 E8 aThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# y V; a! a. O& S, l' raims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
a7 j, ]1 e+ |$ U2 c1 k1 T% k' v3 b0 Hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
) Q% n! B- q: Cparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
* b& L* Z+ _9 t* G9 c6 { pfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of! k" T' K* b3 D3 T9 d0 W/ M P y# |
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial% w% |( O9 G6 d! o! @
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
6 |" q/ W/ {" s( c3 P: Rmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) R- d6 _& d% A" z# s1 ydirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of2 V: p0 e8 q3 N
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
