The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition8 J) w0 Y# W8 y* X, N% O+ L/ T
Roles and Functions; w8 a6 k* Q8 o# Q, r0 h* A- x3 [
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* P0 S, ^1 \# k) borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& X4 p& _) E7 ~; t6 roperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has K# D7 t5 F& x
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,- p, I9 n/ H2 _0 D6 v% t
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 U# P* U+ V' L+ x/ a9 [2 \
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
9 o; y' t6 ?9 z" B: r2 e5 S. yconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
/ R1 ?/ y5 b2 W' D- xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
6 u4 Z7 G( ]4 R, u0 {, _' Rstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend" H; E0 L W! u7 A" R) n
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:4 i2 H1 w! ]; {2 s
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:: D- d, d9 f/ q
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" H4 F) M: F# q* q- v6 rofficers of the Coalition5 g+ _. `. i% ?9 T9 ^* ?9 B$ h
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
" r; l1 V' n1 @( S2 N7 Z/ jorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
$ x* A2 r! Y5 W7 _and public institutions+ b7 l7 ~# g/ L- p
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
/ B/ J7 i$ a. c' r5 N" `funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
" u' E5 B! @7 L6 {9 v; \. ~4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
$ O' @8 f) D/ m) {5 worganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
- a( T" G7 p! w( n' R D% `* @. Xthese organizations
* D2 y- _ R( ?+ W% ]5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society0 @1 T: I% l v6 Q& k
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
. B3 s y1 h& s' `) S, Jwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
' G5 C: f; Z0 `& p ^- E* l( \diverse backgrounds" R9 W6 w5 ]( N: a" `
4 w7 E+ Y! v4 o9 E0 S$ kAdministrative responsibilities:
t+ P1 x- g' `- p1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
' J0 G$ o$ z& q, f3 ^" f4 ~) ^5 g: @regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of0 P9 ]( d9 J8 G; I. g# b" F( R
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
]# \0 N5 [2 ~) b5 R6 Omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.1 ^0 l: h8 L/ o& u! ?3 z4 A
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" a8 m H6 M6 _4 U; Q/ \Multicultural Coalition# p5 `# c& R5 m: m3 }( b4 p
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board8 ~# V( L) V; C) R
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
; F% {9 Q9 ~- e; @; }" v6 Z8 X2 T) wimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 W$ {6 |6 j( C
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ R7 R2 {/ s7 ~/ u' IThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
1 I9 s, l }8 N7 \1 s' `aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
& L" A0 I+ Z- _% x. l, wbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership7 l& j& j2 @: U, P4 H; a
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ F! M1 L$ ^1 d9 g" ], j- h+ mfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of k' I) m. h3 V3 m! ?5 X
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial L" D m8 Z& K5 `/ c3 u! j1 V# w
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
' U, V% L! B/ \0 y! I" S1 ~0 j% Mmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
, L' L! d: N9 t+ J7 kdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power5 `5 B. V7 V( j. S: ~
Point) and internet

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with0 a: H! f7 m: B, ^3 e$ |& Y. \" C

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
