Roles and Functions
" ]8 M1 O9 A P) ^( a6 V8 O9 ~The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 v$ U# h2 ?* h. F2 P
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the3 K# v) X$ b* q9 ^) h! Q& U Q+ H
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ Q9 V# L2 U" }! S) a
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,. \0 U; t! \& ]5 m: N1 ~6 o% {
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 Z% f+ n% c& A( B0 U2 W5 r
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is0 G; @$ P. D% o7 D" N+ P# G
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: V o/ Z8 M5 l$ o* q) z
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
6 k0 R1 Q2 R( E: Z& g" N; }staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
- E# P4 O; f0 Sall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities: W Q9 L" e, T# [4 ]0 k8 X
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
, \' Z* \$ e4 i I1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 u: O3 n0 v. @# L# M5 T- ^3 S- j* f
officers of the Coalition
7 s- i) q8 o" _* I" L% `; [# y2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; m! y3 c, R R8 T' K2 j z j6 I
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations% k. `/ u- D5 {& Q3 v' t- r
and public institutions! h) V/ X" p& o* P
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
$ T z- N0 f- U# r) i& x9 L* nfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives2 d. z1 f% \+ X$ a7 D
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community4 r/ |7 I& i% C; |) b1 @ s
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community* T6 s @9 T3 ^* J4 Q

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic4 \* F* ?2 e7 f2 I! ` m+ i
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

@5 b( o* L$ m. @5 w7 bwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

' o; I* F; x8 n" v6 oAdministrative responsibilities:
- q" @, n& y% M9 ]1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its( p+ k8 E" \4 k' M# Y: ^+ l
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
& Q. T9 R. ~2 v# tdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% b3 r+ l. \# ?+ I6 c" i$ Amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition./ ?. ^) o C5 U5 @1 a; s; J6 s
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
# U7 r) N9 B/ ^ _Multicultural Coalition- t+ \6 [# ^$ l* p0 P. P Z! t
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
( {9 E! A' g- k5 B8 {All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" U3 x3 K4 T/ Dimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 D- g9 k) D1 g5 y' C, N; |& moperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& ?. s/ M! k' _
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and1 o, |1 k' E: G: @3 X$ e6 c
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' i6 g7 Z2 \4 _6 K3 H" cbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership) n4 ?$ K0 j: C* W% C+ h
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
: o' u5 S3 X x5 ~* x! Tfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of% U/ f t5 u7 |1 W, w( q
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
; P: r8 B l% W, X' fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all: _& n- H; v/ K! s
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of5 t0 d' |3 m' n
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
. p3 C3 s! V8 d% o: u% T/ jpolicies already adopted

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

community level

Pay Range & Terms
