Roles and Functions. a/ d' z+ Q8 L
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the6 E" I; Z: \& P; Y$ V( M& I" z. N
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
M8 T$ K3 H/ e8 koperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
: D4 |" t$ u7 `* c. lthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
6 A2 E3 R6 H: P5 poperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 K1 R# t9 Y @' g9 Uboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
0 q S0 O& h: @( r8 u5 C: ^+ oconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an% H" _; q" {# H4 H( W4 t
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires+ @7 \- {& d- ]1 `5 Z- t
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend7 u2 L2 W ~3 t9 D# g
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the3 v! B& k( I G$ Q, T* a9 i9 a
officers of the Coalition
) `! G% s$ r+ q- h, L, [# g2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 Y# j* B2 T( t: U5 J* korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
9 ~% {: l6 P1 y3 ]and public institutions! I6 n: K7 A% z2 @; Y% y
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
- k' [) B! ^( u7 G0 b* e# D5 }% Nfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( h l2 @' g a1 x+ j2 n
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community$ j) Y9 d# X7 m1 j- L& d7 i
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
# e! F" i% f0 a5 K7 T) D9 P0 Y8 vthese organizations3 n5 Q9 _; `/ Q. n- u) b* L; E
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community' }9 k9 [0 F4 @! R, R' w0 W
leaders
0 F2 P- u! Z) B: N6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
0 c4 J$ V" y+ o9 q& y6 z5 Gparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
6 S" K$ x. k" u% b; X7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working6 B! `1 @/ G; g7 O
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically+ h- J2 s2 m7 e: p6 g+ d/ x
diverse backgrounds. ?% e) N& w: N
' ?( Z( d8 u$ ZAdministrative responsibilities:
: P. l3 w7 _0 [* n4 {/ d: z1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its% K1 @: E8 G) m
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of5 j/ p1 Q7 b; e3 S2 f
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the8 l! T) Q7 Z- t+ c' w6 @+ R
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.* I8 S# I2 G4 d4 |0 M) \6 ]4 l
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
4 R3 O. j7 N6 E% OMulticultural Coalition
" z, s8 K3 \0 a5 I- g6 DRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
# i1 ?! F! f. G) l' yAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
3 V0 A+ p6 R2 p$ f: @3 Y3 Nimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating, b1 h L2 m5 J7 G
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility." o' [4 q& ^/ b1 P
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# _' |$ H( V0 q8 l' `$ Kaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
$ `: a' _1 N+ \$ @, a/ Ybe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# C, N% d1 S$ M0 }
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
6 |1 K( E, Z& y5 @. [7 Ifacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of' n5 B5 J% n0 _. Y" `& k6 o
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) l6 s% w0 C! rstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all& u% P! y" L0 b5 o/ x
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- O) q$ h/ V+ Y' Y; C8 y& b
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
