The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition( x% W- T* [) C4 D$ Y" K/ {
Roles and Functions! c! Y" g( R' ^3 k0 H) w- t0 `
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the5 u6 X% j% @) ^5 {' m+ v
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the! t. ^5 g) Z' U* A3 W; }9 y' c N
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 f6 H. g; f! }+ N5 g: Sthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
$ b) _' v& U: c! G4 v7 N" ioperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular- Q2 T7 J' I e# `. r4 U0 X& K
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is6 o f' ~# X( l( D# [
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an$ Q j& i9 U$ n5 g1 ?
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( @( S* l( k$ t- w5 c, dstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. x* N b1 o* j
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
$ {$ y6 |3 k# `/ `) s! @+ KThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
S) O* `# d/ {1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
h8 Y7 b: {3 Q+ T7 o' Dofficers of the Coalition9 ?% s4 H5 R3 r& R% Q
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural0 |$ S3 p: w6 ]4 x6 y
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations+ A# k2 d! W9 A! G2 ?
and public institutions
9 b- @9 r4 ]/ u4 t/ p' ~3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through$ N4 N9 c6 ]+ B" z
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; Q+ O: |8 R6 ?. n5 z0 P" T; |
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community. ~* ?6 T( l% F' y7 h
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:% N1 O; F$ S/ V6 B! `# \+ O2 h
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
2 J- r' L7 J$ j# q+ ?regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of9 x8 Q6 b; c* x* y4 y2 N: l
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the# a+ N9 J0 D0 g$ R9 o' P
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, a& F2 m+ r4 j4 d- l e3 @# K2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
% o: h8 ^7 S, K% `' m- u/ f1 AMulticultural Coalition
. K* T0 {. V. e9 M* @$ o$ }: lRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board% @; H: R& E# q+ K% t/ ^
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to; s7 `0 b. {. L1 H: t# S
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating4 z, h1 H) Z! d, X3 l$ x+ S
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
# l5 C1 z: e4 |' gThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 V/ w+ R2 o x/ Z8 I3 Paims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) A) Q$ ?* @6 O( | q7 E" r
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership1 e$ D% d1 \1 Z$ h& d/ ^
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and# n5 j G0 g& l9 E: i7 C
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
) ]# K9 @8 L2 Jdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
+ J) j1 \% J3 H' I6 N2 @, ?statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all. z1 x/ F O. W+ ?1 ]" v# _9 A
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of( a' i" ^$ x- l! J
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of1 t* d( n# |5 T& F
policies already adopted; y: w7 Z( h* T1 h6 _
