Roles and Functions
2 v$ c) d! ^! c, t8 D" b, p6 z; @$ AThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. o* m5 H5 G( N# X, Z! R
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the# M' @1 `/ Q- Z
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
+ w9 H8 v7 H+ d5 g: k2 {3 S3 Uthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,* b# u9 A+ o6 ~7 C+ s) o
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular# W' W0 @, m: A' |4 ?' O
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- j$ N2 V) J& }" B' F
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an7 K1 ~, P8 F* q* ~& x0 Y2 Q
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
6 M1 v2 o- ]9 f+ `. g+ P- I9 [staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) {! c( G3 s% ?, Z$ K8 Oall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
2 i# X K4 Q4 A QThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
! t1 B% D1 \) h- c6 ]1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
$ m6 |5 C) x" H E; j1 Sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, Q1 F, |' Z- p2 S/ |# ]
and public institutions
& t1 D( M/ I/ _! K$ M3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
, D3 U9 r/ J9 i' M/ u2 X, jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
) ~5 m" c9 Z, X; |4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
8 ^1 {% V: L0 V3 ^! h. ]organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

' m5 C9 a' U6 i5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically% t3 D2 x4 E0 p! V# c, B! X4 h

& K: g. Q) w# E9 `) YAdministrative responsibilities: X+ X$ W! H& i3 U6 z# N& S
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its' B$ o) L8 a* f, R; `. m4 M
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of/ ]% G5 v8 E- w1 \/ J2 y$ Q, Q* y
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
9 F4 V1 @) j& w$ y! f' w- `members of the Coalition’s financial condition.! z3 j; d/ o9 t$ Q4 G
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
' O! A5 l; d3 r4 h9 M3 N# RMulticultural Coalition! N) f9 l4 |% y
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 Z: d! h. j4 u4 D. y. `! @All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
+ W6 `7 N* A0 U1 ^. h7 P3 nimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating4 m2 b, J0 C7 a( x r" I+ a
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
# I. c2 Y6 s0 \0 U/ V0 d4 MThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and1 }/ _7 J/ n5 Z
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should d' f S8 J, a5 j/ F0 c, f
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( B" a; A6 |% `- u$ Cparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 W) t d( c" V( Q
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& P/ u+ T4 O+ y; W$ W
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
. U6 [6 B. C. S: r8 C* w2 Ostatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
' A( A. p" e' A9 _matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
5 M( F* h% ?& l- [ d$ wdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of, ^: e7 d& B6 a$ H
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
