6 I: n! v' P8 a$ kRoles and Functions
; A! B! E) T% B% C- _) B+ h* b8 V8 IThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% S5 T" h o$ R3 F2 d z4 H! worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the$ x$ N) n3 U, b" G1 _1 C" P
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
% S$ W' [4 \% k* _6 I* h _the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
; i% ~9 o# J3 @* ]6 C* ?) ^operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular; p3 G$ e; ~! \
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' N0 c- n0 @( n# V4 _ M. b
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 K, D0 c# {" G+ H
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% u6 o( C7 t9 D* p( H# G. n
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. f: G3 m5 a% m* ?3 ?$ Z: D' o
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' }2 ?; O- D& w, C8 R& h" C4 I1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ E4 p5 ~9 S# h( V% A6 F0 H( C% [
officers of the Coalition
' N, F/ n) d% {+ f3 P6 N2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
. [/ T' S' ^ {, g: y" aorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
& o- G) ^: T' Y& E3 yand public institutions: S9 V% D+ B8 l4 L8 z
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
) N' O& \) @9 T; G* F# Ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ M6 X3 N0 h( \9 W5 D7 I1 a, o! Z
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
! _% K5 u9 G2 s. G) i8 Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with% t* i' m8 j/ B9 q! W1 j M4 y/ t

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
, F4 T) Z; c* B" k1 M: xparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society; ?* _, v( O( z, U, T4 I
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working+ I+ m: ~6 a- z
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:2 H: p- I; O% Q+ h+ |6 @( p
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
9 P- v- H3 g7 Q9 f. g: }, Nregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
2 [; \3 y1 W2 I3 j& v2 J) Odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* v6 s$ R( t2 _
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.5 d9 U$ K1 k( o7 C8 N
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
- f5 ~. U2 t7 f4 O$ F5 CMulticultural Coalition
) b4 H6 S6 c" h/ n$ m0 O- M7 BRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
; Z" U1 _0 M* xAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" [3 T) u. c+ qimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating5 Y+ `/ z; n& u
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& f9 A& C' z3 E- v% }* ~
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 Y7 X, W: P |2 w& ~( [" G
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
9 ~4 l# ?" y/ [: u8 zbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership8 U8 x) O( {2 \ D' y0 `
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ [ R$ n6 C# P2 f5 }% Z7 |9 H0 tfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
7 q4 ^, [- t! c. W; E5 s5 z( Mdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
Z9 e) W6 |5 d0 u5 Mstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all$ y2 a. Z( u6 S3 u
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of( l6 I: t: }) S6 A- Z6 b
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of+ J* G) ~3 G2 p2 ]
policies already adopted

possible extension depending on funding.
