Roles and Functions
% o/ d; f1 C/ L( \ KThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the" ~6 p5 q- T' _1 {4 p# R# f+ |: _/ q
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
$ G3 q2 X# u5 b, |: u, Hoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
2 F7 J5 u5 W, v5 `the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, o" K6 I, S* B9 Aoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
' z1 q. X$ t) ^0 A0 Jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is2 H/ m8 S$ l8 B1 n
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
. W& l; g" R/ {2 Jemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
, ^- [# g) _0 F1 t6 }& Ostaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
" C; u' |% Y: D; ~) E! Lall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 u4 G; H- P1 \0 `
% d3 O, l5 G* CFunctions and responsibilities:
* _) O8 @: e# q W ^ T2 TThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:" O/ Q; p9 D# M& w/ [
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the' z! n6 k- x" Y* K
officers of the Coalition
- C! v" B; M c" V2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
/ A3 H3 P6 M% e' [ a$ zorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations4 r5 k1 C- j# ]: C
and public institutions0 D ?2 \5 a2 y
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 I+ n) @% Q' s7 I
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
! I& A: I' W" q! b Q0 W$ k, F4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 i. Y8 i( k$ D$ U& K" R( D6 o+ p2 Norganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

; \+ }$ X" m- j7 HAdministrative responsibilities:
. w0 L7 a6 A! R7 J% [1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its. H4 R* r. @3 a3 v% ~
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of% ^4 G( G0 Y- {) v$ S* ?& S
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
H9 ~! G, ?* k) ^members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 W- l7 B) b. K2 n$ a* W3 |6 C2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; f- u+ ~3 q% O! a# eMulticultural Coalition+ u: A, M ~2 `2 _3 _9 I$ @$ Y) y
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board- e$ W7 l1 L; @& ]
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! s7 K3 X8 t0 S( g/ B( |6 }( f
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) D( N; J* K) |1 b- {& K5 F9 V$ ?' Noperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ ^) k, j9 l9 v. |( K0 b. YThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, |$ x3 h+ x% }' E$ K9 `
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
; |7 i4 D6 ]5 _$ _. Mbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership" W% T' ^* w! B9 G' ^) |4 Q: F. d
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! [, {& P9 C) b: o. f
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" x( N$ t( V5 N% s2 |( H
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
( h2 ^; }' M3 j( P$ Hstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( J4 Q* _2 E8 V0 b8 w* m
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
4 l L2 j. w/ [5 _( z3 }& ~9 adirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

Pay Range & Terms
