The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition& F1 M# P: g' r& t$ N8 d+ c8 R
Roles and Functions
8 _* `2 X8 p) cThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the, d+ w; B- D- o# }
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
5 d2 m$ a4 C8 u- \operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
" ~; _ n2 z$ w2 g# ~the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
V/ ~/ [9 }6 C) v2 m+ moperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 f* L" v, M( dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
* P# ^1 K& B9 `0 K6 T6 uconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an' r5 @& ], g# C9 \+ `( s
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" _" _& y6 [% h) D" w
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; R& Q. A( {& {all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:- p2 M! I1 c$ r: D. x0 G
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 r2 y D' U9 {& u0 Y2 f
officers of the Coalition( ~# f. j% D' e) }" a, |2 ~
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
/ R+ s$ o) Q! |2 m4 ^, A8 ~organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, e4 o& j. e) Q7 ?1 r# G1 p" s
and public institutions4 Z! E! |1 B9 a; O+ A3 I, z
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through! q. W) G0 h3 Q6 ?3 |, h5 R
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
B$ l6 ?3 ~4 Q8 S; `$ q4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community9 T* G8 A) w0 r4 }
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. O( K, o4 R; t P" {

Administrative responsibilities:
4 w! @1 u2 Q' D( v4 W5 Z1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its' M9 n" x. K8 q, y* b
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! k4 f/ {5 f- g2 d' r1 ^& @2 I
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the: \; N0 c! M, T; L
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 v" R. [& M5 j# c2 U6 `8 e$ s A9 f2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
% _+ z2 x4 M8 V7 xMulticultural Coalition
- N: B# t8 |; v7 \% zRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board( f. z% ^+ ]. s' }. M! \5 m
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to) N; y" F$ K8 [5 `
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) Z" q) o% y/ e. o! Q0 Eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
% v- U9 P' S8 x1 [The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
% Z. m4 G* Y% m5 V3 H4 _' F# L" \aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should/ t+ Y* G- A" Q4 _1 t z- B& t
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 ^# G p( ~% }) y
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
% v4 o. Q- u. l, ffacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
5 x n) U, @) I4 n- u! idirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial7 b! _4 U- `4 x
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 H% N0 d4 h2 a. L9 Y& Y: W( zmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: F$ M+ @4 J0 d" j/ }& q7 o( h3 ?
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of( n- N& i' d- I9 C
policies already adopted
