The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
: g! X( ]7 Q" Q- d3 qRoles and Functions
; f4 W# b( V8 n) e9 hThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
6 l& K: {: w) N1 ^# \6 Iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the9 p' {! A- n2 [& m& z
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
% U) r a- E5 g1 o1 [the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' c- { B$ b2 A& M( Q+ woperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular. n4 Z" Z) L) N! l" x
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is+ }4 K# [3 N; p `$ r
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! M% v9 Z7 a- }: W' \
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires; S% O4 y/ h$ e
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! Q7 G) l6 X% N- @+ T1 ]all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.' @+ e5 B: b x/ X$ I7 _

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
4 C0 V' V) u1 i& A. v) ^officers of the Coalition
% e2 t& h, N9 D4 {2 f2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
7 R* Y& P' l6 ^/ V8 ?- M8 Qorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
+ D3 \, u: W s$ r) ^" zand public institutions# q$ X C8 q U/ |
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 r9 Z3 n0 _! z# C, xfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
& T& i6 A* @* t& ^; T X4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community8 A3 B8 B0 l# a
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

: A8 s6 R! t" x/ NAdministrative responsibilities:
$ [3 I# B& b# i9 j+ W/ W) ~1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
% t( D, A/ a: a! ~7 Uregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
+ W5 }9 ?$ t+ J% Q: U; fdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the" m5 F. ?! Q' C* L4 P' C- N3 ~- r
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, w% u/ s+ M6 z/ s# Q; \8 F2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the2 S9 H- }# T- ^8 `4 Y& J

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
- H: u5 A/ c! f! oAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to0 I/ p) |- X9 d1 ^1 ]+ b/ [# E
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; [, B3 P7 I" P; L% c; L/ ^. toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.* f: t5 n6 T$ z* V& c# u
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and; O# C8 Q) |( [' x, T& q2 `
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! |- E8 d% _. V2 N; S, Y: v8 n
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership+ N* U3 {* n: W# H
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
3 E8 F" f/ q$ ]% ~+ b: Q/ mfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of( H' U+ ~' w5 T, K- a
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* R* B; I1 ^7 b* |. M+ F" Tstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 \8 W& x1 z1 g! y* Ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" F6 H0 Z0 t: a5 G5 ]% x+ Y1 ^4 b" P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of% U+ Q: K7 E" u( m( E1 I) q
policies already adopted) @: t3 S; x5 h0 ]+ ]4 r0 U
