Roles and Functions' X+ O8 [: J3 W" r
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 J$ i: N1 v: zorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 a5 z8 ?+ p3 M U8 Zoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 L9 S+ U: R( Z" P* r. {! U5 mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,5 n* j' k" R' b; E- w
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
. R# z" ?! ^! hboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 D3 ~, w$ F: I3 I- `5 O- nconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 n/ d, ~/ x7 L$ H
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires- V& W- M) D& ^
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% U2 [; O" f5 ^/ f( V5 y6 iall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.. W& c+ {- t3 i; r( v1 n8 i

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
2 p; I2 ]+ R v1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
7 c4 B% r% C& R4 yofficers of the Coalition
7 s8 J0 `: |* o7 T1 x& Z" {8 o2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
. X# y3 V& N( q! E/ Dorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
C4 ^7 V* x0 t1 Nand public institutions
7 B; k0 ?5 Q$ x5 V* ]1 n0 _" [3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ R) q# }* x- L) E! F) [8 p8 kfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives2 ?' R) m1 x0 i. e- n
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community/ g- N d* H, K, C" ?5 k
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. ^+ p. C8 R$ V. a8 ^, @6 m" Q

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:) @/ E; [* {( Y7 [3 N
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its x9 |6 U7 g5 L8 l: K
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
' z) F6 X6 B/ C9 t& O1 wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# X8 E! g. J- Dmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.' {* T2 c- A6 n7 ~1 ?8 r- |& K
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the1 M; Z* ]. S+ V) N. l k
Multicultural Coalition
& C% R/ l+ o4 Y; wRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 J& A) Y1 D$ n O( O$ RAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ f6 j; K `9 w3 t
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating# U9 V: z; ?6 @/ c9 C
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
6 ~9 w3 }, }# `2 ^; r& sThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
9 q3 d' L1 J9 C. aaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should( T5 E/ m: Q3 X+ ^! p% e! N
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
1 H# k$ x: v1 ^& y: q# yparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and7 a1 r& B7 F6 O: h: q' q5 o8 e
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 [; l" U }1 O) u$ E* |+ Rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
0 `! ~) _5 N4 V# d$ S' Ustatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
3 i4 K5 U3 q1 k$ cmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

policies already adopted
