The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* H' B9 P3 L2 N
Roles and Functions: g- \, G6 B- r% q3 w2 w; {
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
" \% Y& M3 L" W3 worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& r. D8 w" Z# T Y( voperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has* s" J! Y- ~: ~: A* z u1 D
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,' j2 p0 C8 D: m: c1 i/ b' K6 [
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular) n( X/ E+ y% m: N
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# `* u0 g6 T3 {) H. k! h* oconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
; D# J* \4 P3 }2 ]) X* @' @' |3 cemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires0 |2 G" A/ p6 z- L2 U2 y6 _9 z) [
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend9 ]1 w: F$ p6 B
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
# `6 M7 O( `9 M: ?0 s6 ]7 b1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ y4 e' F! }8 }& d) p: u" z
officers of the Coalition
+ q+ u% ?' B% R& r( @, N% B" T2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural8 ]) b2 J7 R+ p2 z$ z1 l5 V
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
- z x# Y3 A9 S' Gand public institutions+ |9 s' z# m& A# a; C# F
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% ] ^& e/ n* I! b3 C
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives* o- t! R: l& k: K: K- y, o
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community! ~0 d8 P& u& b" w' | E
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with8 L* r+ t8 J( H

Administrative responsibilities:
9 r# u) X5 i* @5 X7 g3 w$ ?; R1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its% Z: t3 p% S% Q% z/ H. X! v
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
! @; o* a6 L0 p" W& a4 E/ S6 ~directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
0 o+ m: J" W, D% k {: cmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, {8 X _( z# T" a2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
7 Z K, V* m$ Y; p3 h) FMulticultural Coalition8 o7 ?0 h! W: U# V, L; c/ S8 ?
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ D% s- y3 A9 v+ i3 B( p
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ m3 y' r$ z0 P) H8 x9 h- a3 t' q
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating0 x9 k( \' D, @: {; e" d
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
% |. q" d% U& aThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, \6 w) H% z; P& Y% {7 |) Y! N
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
, `" X* k- x! w- N- N! ?% \5 Abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 {, r+ a+ K. y! y0 Y
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and

directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial& B& s8 {# a6 `1 J

matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
