The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
8 C1 F- a! \& Q! W5 M4 A9 r2 RRoles and Functions% F& D& Z7 a3 U$ r
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
5 q- g% |5 H" q$ E# J( o2 Dorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the, J r4 V0 c: y+ Y% t* i6 j7 p/ d( y
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ g3 r1 F7 ]: G9 N6 H5 T8 V
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 O; L J* f) n# F D
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 y0 U, S; l. F
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is; P, E( p$ J, @# w, P! A
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
' p l1 t. v! Lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires- V% `- S0 @* E4 g7 s2 j
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
& \2 k7 ?1 J1 l; f0 x# v/ gall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.! X5 D$ u H8 t# T0 B( ^1 s

Functions and responsibilities:

/ p4 A: {1 v) d% ^1 v0 i1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the3 _0 G& G1 r, ^3 e( e0 e. w
officers of the Coalition
+ d$ W' h+ p- S+ C1 f' R2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
% b" g/ k% M C" }organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations+ M$ m7 e) m, d6 R
and public institutions# I: P$ t; F% ^0 S9 N* R E' V
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
9 R1 |4 _' m% T. u+ y. K# zfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ O7 T8 E# R$ R' U C) M$ I
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 O8 i6 R; E# s$ Lorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with( d2 z( X; Z4 ~- N

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
) u/ ^, D n# P5 ~with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:* L3 t# V: X1 F6 U, E" f
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- K9 k2 [* q' ^% B
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! O2 I& g9 U0 c: `
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the. y0 p$ B" T3 c, D. Z# Y! \5 k
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" q+ ]0 U& V1 z: o, i" }! ^implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating f3 ]2 z# J* E6 m4 S
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.$ {4 U" B7 c! `
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and2 `% A" e0 k5 @# ]" O
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
6 y3 D2 L# Y! { w# J! tbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* n3 [+ J5 W) M- H" n
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and3 w, I" i( B% S% \ |
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 H; H! N8 a9 q( `% g. @directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
, @, [1 b% z/ e! x; xstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all1 o& x+ G, V( c8 _
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of8 [% O6 v5 e( Q; t9 K2 K J4 g$ f
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of1 U2 c( c3 [- J" I& s0 o. b3 }

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the# U4 j' ^- p$ V8 y, j

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

Pay Range & Terms
3 |2 e' K. q- qThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
