The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

/ |- J/ V+ `5 n9 D* {/ DThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the& _) `8 c8 _0 C, K
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the$ F3 ]+ l8 P8 K1 I& L6 F* k
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has; }3 A/ d$ H. w' n, V! u* ^
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,5 R8 u; g( r) b" d2 Q
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
, k% h+ n1 |7 s# dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# _6 q- C. c( G. G# @conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
" }# E# H2 N( D0 X/ i& Zemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires4 ~6 l/ x N) @1 `
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
( g0 w4 ^4 i) K. h, y# \all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.- U9 ^; }5 t! ^3 r3 D

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:6 p3 y2 z; F4 F/ B( s
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ ?8 x) b+ B$ D& a. O
officers of the Coalition
8 H8 u; U* n# M) ? R2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural1 q& `: u2 O5 T0 G5 r( ?
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
% [ G$ s* |$ Vand public institutions0 d# X( R4 F8 k4 A" ~
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
# b" v' s: B1 H1 z( N6 V" [8 o/ Qfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
# h" i: L9 }, f5 X( n- f4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community6 J% d0 n( s( r
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with1 X8 P5 o R# ]3 k C

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
2 a+ [% P% `. cwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
* q( X! ]2 g% I$ [* {diverse backgrounds

3 ^; V! I% N8 @" S; a6 y% O8 xAdministrative responsibilities:
( _. j8 y& W; }" |4 s& e4 x9 I! i1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 s) a8 R3 j' |0 L5 A# `4 x$ Pregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of V) \" q% [6 |
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the- u @' a2 T0 A" V
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
6 v+ d& S9 `( \8 H: n' [- y2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the7 L1 _6 [9 n2 w3 @" @# G

( F- O1 r7 M1 B1 _+ n4 bRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board' \! Q+ s5 c5 G3 Z; d) a' I) z9 Y' n
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to O; P( T3 @* d+ l9 P. P: l9 p
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
/ X6 l. d T/ U, t$ v9 K1 d$ coperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
* }5 C" i% D3 `( v" J7 L8 UThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
. g% v* J; ]3 f: Q( w/ ~3 l: ]6 laims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ I- t# _+ f: d1 b- J1 J0 C; _be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership8 K- S3 L+ h- B. b
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& i* v3 R, B' D" b& ]facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! U p- h3 Q; e" B+ _5 edirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial& M5 x+ C4 K3 I# l. X
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all b5 B8 N/ o* h( y i- L
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
1 b! A) F+ p) r5 j H% H3 mdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
