Roles and Functions
* e- K- e- T& P; \The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 Y( O: C2 w) T
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ e+ }1 V2 d2 @# i$ N* F' o4 \
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has3 X) l3 _* A. C/ Y3 x! S8 N5 ?
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 e" B, q' I3 H: |4 {; k ]+ C d
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
* O$ b! Y" Y% h, k0 ~7 X" wboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is5 T; y5 c+ d' j' s5 g5 G
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 B, A8 M% L5 Q) ^3 |4 ?, e
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
5 V' W7 E8 h% ` {staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
. n' P/ z- ^, A5 b: Ball board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.+ l' t+ _$ O* Q% {& [7 v- y2 @/ o

Functions and responsibilities:8 X. v# Y8 c. L+ Q8 A# j1 S8 @: l
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:8 T' U2 N0 t _1 K* U- Q
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the g% _% D7 u. v0 w+ ~0 Y* w( B* ~
officers of the Coalition
: a% L: X: @3 c2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
8 Y, Y* K6 y; c0 W( E+ p; T9 A; ^organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations0 `; N* U3 _: _4 F
and public institutions
+ a$ ]$ ?( s1 ?" a+ Y; e/ B3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
3 T* A! V5 \+ i! }funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
8 F2 s% G, U7 ~6 I0 V' O4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
5 ?# c/ T- r# _organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with( x" v) s! i9 y: s4 z) I

/ l, u7 P2 e; ~4 O0 j+ i& uAdministrative responsibilities:8 F& X% e5 S& m$ v, A
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
# p$ R G2 x8 n- o: W" Kregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of) B; \, V' ]% n* A( {, M; Y9 `$ I
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
& I M3 F" @2 }# \* ]members of the Coalition’s financial condition.1 B5 E1 F( E; b' J& @( o$ l
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the& M6 D$ E/ w: B
Multicultural Coalition/ O& a9 c" [( Q! v& z# a7 j& t
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board$ z3 n; e' {# U7 C1 b0 Z9 u
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" ^$ s2 x6 D; zimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating. D, \5 R$ I8 p5 E
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. p) P0 I$ N. x6 Q$ n
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 F( L6 H; b" N; ^5 {! q$ w4 L
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should0 ^# X! M- m0 W2 Z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: ?7 y# M' M T% J. d- Yparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and8 P: b7 C( [ s
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
$ c1 ?7 Z# a" `! c; i% Idirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
6 z, B1 K$ d, @+ [5 L8 Wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
+ T/ R, G0 Z" d3 E! b% tmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
4 q1 e' z% ?/ E" \directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
* d1 s, g. P% L8 [' H6 ]policies already adopted

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation
