Roles and Functions
H$ w5 P. o& i) \The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 w' z8 Z3 K9 B) ] L H' |organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
. g; M" c4 M, Ooperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
+ q9 L4 J5 @% q; D! jthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,! _' U0 @9 P( @# N/ }
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 ^% q- [: a0 `
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% Z w' l0 [6 N0 k/ U4 bconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an/ I3 a6 R+ F6 v6 i% j# ~
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
8 `$ ]% w4 I5 q U( R/ D% a. jstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
. j: C" W/ `) B. W2 s) Q' x% hall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:8 @1 O5 G8 X6 L, X" K" Y
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% k) e& Z! P1 v+ ?! t3 h. E
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the/ z$ K, @* L2 @( M/ q2 H
officers of the Coalition
, i$ R5 S3 w# }; T( f2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; `4 v, e( C' \ g; _1 N
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations0 F' K3 c/ @ E
and public institutions2 g- }" C4 S+ R0 b3 F* E# {* n0 {
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through! o6 R0 a: R2 F" Q' l( }: A
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( [1 X" u$ K' g
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
) G X3 \/ p+ R& m7 H4 d! A( k% Gorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community8 r6 q, X" H" ^
leaders

Administrative responsibilities:
. ~0 |# M0 v$ Z7 t6 F1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
3 G# Y. n! `7 r6 ?, u t( |regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 g- m0 A9 m& A# I: b" ?" Gdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
3 f3 o! A! @; rmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
- o4 a$ Y+ w8 L- ?" n: QAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! A% ]: Q5 P5 A
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating; D0 }* |. @7 r) R+ c9 H
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
' z6 d5 j- f3 o! X% sThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
, R2 c# ~4 r/ Y9 B) F! Vaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! A8 F' L! b( @4 c3 m& x
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
8 W( x0 P6 @5 s4 {( Q) |participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and# d( b- l r# g a
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
, U- h8 ]9 a9 ]directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
9 v- H2 h2 a2 |$ [statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
% _% ]/ W; i) {& F1 hmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ w! i( @$ [* l6 s7 K- _9 [8 Y4 }
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
