Roles and Functions# c4 y! `5 T5 W% O5 H
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 n3 o5 U* f* B4 Jorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
6 H7 k0 Z. |3 B" Y, [operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
w; ]+ p5 Q5 Q l) z/ Vthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
$ `& B# u7 g2 Goperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
8 l. J# |; W/ j4 U, q3 ~4 b6 K! Eboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is9 z. c/ l7 A5 D* B9 {+ ^' B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
% l4 Q' K( r& Q& hemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
+ H0 @1 c {' n5 d W: Dstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend: _0 S) A1 E! I5 a
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.5 U4 ~9 G( w4 \

Functions and responsibilities:
3 }3 o+ E: M3 v8 d( xThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:+ R, h- u/ u7 x
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" U0 J; u5 v6 q! W Sofficers of the Coalition8 y0 \9 t: o7 O/ A
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
z2 ^/ z* _7 G8 h; T% @organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
6 {7 s; C/ k: B3 Y1 Y$ c6 z( O& }and public institutions
9 o3 O$ R7 Z& r6 V' o2 C; Z, I3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through; B8 G+ b" F$ b" ]* ? n+ U: k
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
! o4 D) Q3 ~9 y5 O9 D) q2 S$ L! `4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
% h- q: _% o1 C7 A! q% dorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community4 i5 B- a& Q: b8 r; B6 M% x
leaders

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

, C1 \/ G+ Q- x) X. Gwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

7 Q. h. y; L( ~) ~3 T$ BAdministrative responsibilities:2 ~ ]0 o/ J6 D! R$ s) w# ]
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
" N" Y# _5 K# b! ^regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
5 x" \) k7 a/ I- W/ b1 ^+ f% w" ndirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ ?8 c4 ?$ D a+ _2 Qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
% t! v/ H" e1 J; W9 J1 i9 _2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
! u4 k2 J/ k: z: M4 UMulticultural Coalition
% a9 F( R' V& R9 x# s, K. [Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
) T% Q& t. n' V# _! NAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to @. j7 L- w: T# A9 ~5 u6 o
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating6 V1 G5 m" T; z; Q: H" Q- M
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. ~# u; d' N5 O2 I( H- k% r& A
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# u$ k/ Y0 p9 n7 ]1 Z" G5 Iaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
. A3 ^1 G, j$ D6 `be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. `9 G3 f# H' Lparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and; @3 p/ Q0 L* o Y Y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of4 G5 g% A$ F9 w2 {. C0 W- C0 |
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial# w/ z" Z' |: S
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all4 I' V: f% f" h! J" a8 W6 Q! q
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 z( u) {4 Z' e
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
