The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
5 V$ M& `. D, l/ c) `: N$ I/ RRoles and Functions
' x$ y6 y* R, vThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
# |/ f+ |& q( `6 _' r" B+ torganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! w* L5 a, t+ v8 Woperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has" W. _: Z; [0 ^! @) N
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
% k; F+ n: y. ~) Qoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
( b3 |& f( P9 |: ^! v+ ^7 c+ kboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' H' E* K0 Y$ |3 [3 o4 W9 {
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
: G0 f% \" C: B" I) Z) B( memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires' I E' e' l( y7 N+ E- o
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
9 T0 k$ `# j, u: L7 U# Ball board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.+ T6 Y: j2 R% z0 S$ m' N$ _2 o

Functions and responsibilities:
' l" a9 [) l( K( F$ A5 DThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 c* j6 t1 H T; D0 M
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
+ i* m+ D, L' h7 }3 n. u) ~% i% i4 ]officers of the Coalition3 ]- z- h" a" `( Q1 G- Z K0 H' N- M
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural: j, O3 \- ?/ l1 E% Q; H$ q+ J" S }
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, ~) X; W3 ?& |( ^and public institutions
8 _% z0 j. u6 K5 x' `1 ?" A; T: n9 `3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
+ A! a6 U) b% ~* xfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
, e& J7 d5 m7 |; f& B2 \+ H6 |4 J4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. d9 H. t3 s, e0 F+ G7 x p: m' J' corganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with7 [# G$ v/ l8 o$ }

& v# ~9 k, ], \7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
, X& n# }1 u4 Uwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
% e* ]6 Z* V9 v2 `, M- Q: ~+ Wdiverse backgrounds$ m# a# ^! R- s0 h3 z V/ j

Administrative responsibilities:
/ D8 U, i$ t% h# e# m* l1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its9 @$ j# e( v1 @9 ?- r$ k$ g' F
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of/ C0 e0 r( ^8 M3 m
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 Q. t" L+ K* v; G wmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
) N4 b+ K4 n" V, A5 A1 j( G; [7 G2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 h& Y# |! b% [

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
9 {6 q' w+ C! X5 _All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
5 M# L8 }! P5 r0 v) O0 ^implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating* Z( U" S5 J6 z; R$ G2 _
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
6 d4 S) s1 M6 Q# \( O. c3 h0 jThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 B. H; H/ a. f: ^
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
7 _. j7 h5 A- m# M' Z' h Rbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
- a" G* q! D- q d: W& {5 sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
8 { k/ u$ m# k$ _facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 Y- k4 s/ {2 D% Ldirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial/ N& m8 q- ~, v- l2 K( @. z$ y
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all& x* |( s9 Y- {7 a, \8 C
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
7 ~ ?, c) ^& a: K. odirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of4 a+ o8 d" n6 n" r6 \3 P
policies already adopted: }2 r0 V5 Y3 U; ~6 F8 D3 f

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
