The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
' G. b$ g1 T# {% b. ?0 YRoles and Functions
& u; |, l9 o9 H3 |- g! yThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the, E( n d5 o2 Y7 e; T) @1 D
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the! y7 l' _& g- J3 H' t
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
, ^# d* @/ @" T# V& h8 Uthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
8 j. C, v8 ~) M7 Toperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular" X* L! L1 w0 Q, C
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# r3 U5 q& x4 a$ G3 C* w# V. vconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
4 ?( I/ M& d; Q4 eemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% h! ~- N4 r' q
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
. r! S }7 x7 J; q! h* D+ N4 ?7 s4 Dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.8 B# @2 `2 L9 K5 u: g, P3 |

Functions and responsibilities:7 K% ~8 @# x. g+ V; U: d; w
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
J! |7 |6 i6 U1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( v3 q3 \1 i! P) U( V
officers of the Coalition8 e/ p; \3 K! `( N% }1 {0 U! S1 T
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural N- Z# B! s. d" o
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations) r. Z6 d" R2 J6 G; t" |; T) S
and public institutions4 c2 G" `0 L' z3 C, [
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
V% K, y m$ _) K/ r6 l! Wfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
- U: P6 M% [# \, a2 I4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community/ f+ w( D8 _9 e7 I3 U. _5 t3 c
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with3 C- P/ i) `( P

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

4 A* {8 m- }! ~! y9 `: Y1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its0 m+ g2 W$ C1 q' o( b& I- v
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
6 j( k; J4 p% e# }* n: odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the8 P* \' W: E5 t0 W- g, p; e
members of the Coalition’s financial condition./ R" T- l$ x0 l0 w5 D/ \
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the: i4 x% T$ P$ L/ U6 E+ n* n

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board) ^0 M' f X2 ]9 z5 M/ [+ D
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 d5 Y! B0 ^% T2 E6 B& B# y6 z) w1 [implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating9 `0 c( J, B; W0 q8 a8 Y! F1 z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
! c- O6 ^7 o W; S0 [5 pThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
+ r$ }9 c6 t& X: ]+ T$ i2 B8 {7 R4 `# baims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' \8 t5 m/ S0 i. U) U/ l8 \be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
1 [0 I$ Z% b ` \: K1 U% a7 o6 ]5 s; _. tparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
. T0 J& A) ^" ^8 V2 Ifacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
' y, b) @, z, T7 n6 A9 A8 W$ A- [directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial0 E5 a% X; N# [' r( a9 i
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
. C( Y: N' t7 k2 o( Imatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 P' `8 V7 D' L5 q" X& \
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 ?4 P! t$ E: k; j5 O- M3 }

Pay Range & Terms
