The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition8 T( ]' g- \" g3 A! N4 ]
Roles and Functions
# u0 ?+ o9 x# o- f# W9 e9 j9 BThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
6 Z% P6 ^# N% k! Q$ Rorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& C- ?$ C6 e& G+ aoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
. C" j- V" ?; m0 z( L. ~2 _the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
7 {+ P8 \2 ~# r; ~* toperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
0 b9 ^* m7 f: o7 W% aboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
5 N$ H6 I" \3 Y9 \conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an- e4 a: h7 j4 U+ U
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
6 V) X. U! U0 ~staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend$ |# g8 a3 B! T7 V9 z+ f
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
, y0 I$ {5 l4 u7 S5 {: u6 i9 y1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( E# @; v. M! v, n1 K+ j, o5 [: A
officers of the Coalition/ L6 {/ f, r# R4 D$ I5 X. J& k
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural0 A( p6 q0 s p3 @, @* @
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 R8 v/ E E+ v' `- S% yand public institutions
, B) x% S5 _. s3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* z& A0 [& C* d8 B6 @7 Zfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
# l- n3 V4 e! J4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community. Z+ n/ J4 `% t& D l5 i: C8 E$ A) K
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with, g! l/ \% J8 j) [. q2 ?3 e" b

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically, |3 [6 ]& X G6 s6 ]# I

Administrative responsibilities:
" t, i$ {) {; s. |1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its3 b* k9 ?* d% S- b
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
7 D0 r2 N3 Z0 g" S6 w( G0 }directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the4 q' S! ~ e5 {4 o; ~7 e4 V
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ G9 S. ^1 Q) j0 ^; p2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
' f4 n, e! V# [$ mAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to- m" w+ ^% [9 V$ ]& K! x0 J1 \
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
0 T& |8 {" C2 f. g( V3 V* Xoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.1 g8 ?$ h# y: |
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
4 x0 p, `: b! c0 R- P+ _aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should2 I; z" B4 y) L; N. G1 h
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership' W" Q" k- n- \2 S% C: d
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: N0 H/ I- m2 Z' b" b1 S6 G/ V; |! V
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
7 S8 T; M$ {8 P2 y0 Z* u" p( Y% S6 fdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 ^; v# p! h( r4 G. E7 H' f+ ?statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all$ k' F2 r6 w0 k S5 C9 h
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) h- ~$ j% j* X' q( A( D8 Qdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles$ C- a# z" `- W, z' A
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
