The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition5 L7 p0 F3 b9 m# i8 b% N" D
Roles and Functions* Z% W3 C/ f1 e* V, ^( I
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the* P4 \; P" v3 \ b8 l Q
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
% M+ i0 A4 K% t. ^2 Boperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has- m7 u/ \! N1 x5 C& w
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 T; \- |- z; n" s0 e. U5 u% x5 |
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: O0 I; B! J( i rboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% D# H! _% c. m& z0 f. G. y" Q2 ?
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 p: Z) l9 F: R- b, ~9 x4 O# f
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires+ ~7 y% S& u0 K/ ` p( K
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
9 v5 I0 K+ ?8 \+ V! |. p" {all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.0 E' |0 \% P/ i7 |5 }- j

Functions and responsibilities:
1 N2 w$ \3 R% ~: d0 S) DThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% {$ L6 T( e, `; c9 X8 l; K
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the6 G" O. G3 i& B
officers of the Coalition: ?; [1 L0 P- ~4 ^' f* }! B
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
3 H4 N+ m$ F$ l, O9 @* ^3 @organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations8 n" Q, M" q6 @' e6 |( t: x
and public institutions4 `# U b. t& i5 p {
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
4 _1 O$ R: j! F4 d" K% _: ]7 a% Ffunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives9 t( ^: y9 \4 S
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community, _& ]4 S$ U2 c! @3 ?
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with; y S, K! x( k6 J9 J

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
5 }; b& r% H% x0 ~+ A: Mparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

5 s8 X( }* v6 P5 N: U& u5 pAdministrative responsibilities:
- u' i, a! h1 e# n+ g! U" P6 `1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
, r% n0 m- Q; B4 X1 cregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of/ e7 e$ r/ Y9 J5 e( W2 K) c( G1 _
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
d$ N t5 y( r8 i1 O2 i7 Vmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
; T5 g8 J! U& i2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
5 \, T; d4 q" D$ N# u7 _Multicultural Coalition) m) v! A/ M- C. v+ m4 f
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board2 i3 |4 r- Z) b0 `9 I9 G+ p
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to+ I/ h5 c) [8 {, n3 m' M3 `* p: }1 r+ s
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 V' k5 K9 A8 l( ?2 `operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 t8 f+ @& A+ a9 h) a
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and/ f( V) a! ^2 @9 H* a# b
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
+ a9 N, }7 ]; a( H3 fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership2 n# M$ C$ H0 b1 p
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
G( ` ?2 c, U nfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of+ I9 m1 n' Z% q* a2 M4 C* c( t
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* k ^0 a* {, ` O4 Sstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
8 e. ^1 @2 u9 g! v/ g4 _; z) Ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( c( P' `- d& z3 y' s, P9 c" I, kdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of, v9 x! M2 T" k& i2 z% d

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the: s2 u1 `5 J' `
community level
