/ m* e: a/ u6 F# j& pThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
) A7 c6 a q& J G1 P9 v1 GRoles and Functions
' B$ l$ Y; `0 zThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the8 t" ]/ A; J# f+ v6 O% {& t& K4 m1 ]
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the/ @- u9 p& a* g3 q# n2 J
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( j& P1 P% ^& ^the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,! j7 o/ r' a+ ~% Z I
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular% W$ Z) I c& X2 i* G1 H
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is9 J8 o" c. x! @
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
6 W$ M' X& }5 d7 c( `employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. `; h9 T9 X2 A" h! N6 D( ^! _# e% J2 M
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 m/ P6 d3 c+ `- Y$ d2 j7 Y
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:3 U% j: ?9 |$ U0 `# O( K
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 h! Z5 X% g$ T$ u4 b0 K* r
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the1 }' g8 A7 v* e- ~! @6 I
officers of the Coalition
6 Q6 b# ~* I5 U; J; M, Z" z7 }2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
3 e6 B$ i- s, b2 `$ }* n- d& Morganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
: ~- s3 L+ h; \1 o+ e% {$ l- ?9 mand public institutions4 F% f$ T: t' T$ i: d
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through+ D- u9 g J4 l4 ?: k
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 t/ G' S" y: g1 Q. Z+ a
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community% g0 ~# I2 ]0 I1 b
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
; ^# @3 r1 l- hthese organizations, {, @ A0 o. j2 g# T! H1 b' R/ \
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
( p+ z: } v; Q4 z& s! xparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically" X6 f( c3 ?( ?

Administrative responsibilities:
& T1 v; K& r( o1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& G( R! {! X3 r3 A6 }
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; X, c! C3 ^/ i( Fdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the7 E, [0 L1 h: W4 @5 s9 H
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
5 p. U. x7 F: \3 P: f; qAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to2 ]$ c, X( q$ s0 t3 v
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 u" P! }+ s6 }4 s
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
# @5 E; l/ Y) h3 J2 B, x3 cThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
6 f9 X( g# ~& F- a' ^( l$ |aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should! O2 E/ P3 P) s) t! b) d
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 R5 Z7 ^2 h! r
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and8 I8 y( b$ J9 \0 s
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
' f* T0 U* M& G' sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
% T4 o; ]5 Z0 [% W7 \0 wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
5 M9 v9 f4 j' lmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* I+ F0 V9 @' O8 P8 Z
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
: G7 u. X0 h. W2 y5 f- A3 W0 zpolicies already adopted% L- Q* t; w! `

community level

Pay Range & Terms
. _% _/ w5 Y5 v, n) `This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with; G0 |2 i) W* y3 [! i
possible extension depending on funding.
