The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition5 G5 v U2 R- V+ m- i8 ]
Roles and Functions! E0 a9 f1 d& a4 p2 |
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% j* @/ H' c, ?, X" |organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 `5 ^1 J; c! _; `3 @
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
) T2 G, Z5 [1 p# ^3 f, D& Jthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 Q8 G( r- M1 ~! }( d7 F
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& n* |) r- j' \- g
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% {$ Z# K, b: a C" Y7 P0 Rconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 }8 Y! r2 f, xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
8 ?. U3 A! D# k9 Xstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) Q \9 S! B3 n0 v [, Dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.6 R9 D1 Z j# v A

Functions and responsibilities:6 \8 h7 d* ?& A
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following: S/ K& n3 p. [* e
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
! \5 h' D: B5 }2 T- Xofficers of the Coalition# k+ M' P! O! i- K" `- V+ W
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural+ o: }0 U6 V* y1 v4 [
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
" h b: j0 K; S* mand public institutions. T& Z# `; h$ ~5 B% m* A9 F
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through F# ?+ I* Z/ h7 s! z' i* i, `( `
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives) h0 v4 \7 [' @) T$ l6 S# I ]/ X
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
3 J9 P0 [$ {5 ?0 G( S( D0 v2 ]organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

$ h, K5 D5 V- H2 _, H5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic5 P. W R, a C
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically2 t' i- J. J2 P

Administrative responsibilities:, a1 f4 Y5 Z/ q0 X3 }: z' G
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
$ `6 R k6 o) g) Hregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of; k: Q' \, @1 K O
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the7 V# K& g' J3 Q/ o
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.. u+ M- |9 }( A) D
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
& Z; E) i2 A" z/ b# ?4 d# @Multicultural Coalition) M/ M! N4 n2 r$ i" O$ I7 g4 Q
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
; J" c% d% t2 J, F' ]All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, X, m: v8 p' \/ U$ Ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating1 ]; e; W. d* p* s _! ]
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
" w$ y/ D3 b* i& AThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
% b; V2 X4 Q0 Z/ t8 uaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should$ R4 G6 O7 N5 A" m9 U5 R+ g3 j
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership; U7 x" l- c. O: U5 r: | [2 w
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and% l) s9 S5 q G: q
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of* e. D- S3 z# C& B9 c
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
/ D' d' L, j3 z( Sstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all" Z2 N L; R/ g
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of8 `) L0 S' t5 s- V4 y
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of+ g6 c9 H4 _8 q
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
