The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
0 A8 P1 h2 L0 |' x$ P/ gRoles and Functions. ]. i" u& t2 j- v" C4 n
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
+ ] ]( i) Z) v0 _organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
9 C# M6 w0 {4 aoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
) @# z8 b4 T- F& Zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,0 v! k% w4 P" }
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular A3 }- A( S0 S# y# k
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
6 h6 m& Z7 p y4 k8 Uconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
; a R2 l0 Z v% V: @, ^/ ^% ^9 oemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 _" I7 @) o/ J% H7 s+ i! o5 {
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend" P3 {9 h% P- G# |$ `
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.* v! i% i5 u% {& D" Z

Functions and responsibilities:# \, }5 V+ w# r h( q
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:2 s( h; R3 }! r' o3 X2 n
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
/ i$ j- D2 \0 K" Iofficers of the Coalition
* n% |% C9 ~ P2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; H( |! Z; h5 t6 M- Z' X
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
5 ~' r. R& C8 Zand public institutions5 p: f S0 q. p6 F6 B
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. |9 ~! q+ d- j9 h8 `' z ?" |funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives1 I* t( Y- o6 Q5 t" h2 i X8 h5 D; n
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community4 t1 m* T, r! M- a1 @; f0 R
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with9 |8 |- E8 x. r3 X* K5 x. X9 s

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically; @- v7 p7 {2 ?8 Z

* O- ~& T: [* a0 zAdministrative responsibilities:6 d2 W0 F8 ?/ Z0 h- s
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" s* a! ?- c4 F% h
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
2 Z7 r- l- e# w: ~8 C: u4 }4 `" q) }directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the5 m2 P- ~6 l/ H% c( m1 y# R
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 C# [7 R( A( C+ h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the4 F) U6 b/ k5 h2 z) I

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to- M& \+ ]& J' J( t! J1 }
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating6 ]5 |2 I" X8 X5 I, l' f
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.% z! q7 Q: i5 u* S) I
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
: @. B/ y, Q. _' f/ P* n8 x) t: ]aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should( v) H. @0 {$ O& V9 S# @
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
* Y9 l5 o6 o$ A3 D @! K, bparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: L8 G8 r8 |* U. m+ D/ H9 W" N& r3 n
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of9 b- R u) r0 V
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 s6 p2 A ^; {! A8 S
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
4 b4 l$ P: W! g% W9 m" n/ Q: imatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: o& K: p, s& @% v
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of) b! a( v- W! Z5 w
