The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
" F/ N! y9 k5 D o; XRoles and Functions5 i) M+ h+ }& F+ r8 P8 _/ j7 C
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 u, @& ]: l( ~6 e1 Corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the3 {6 F) W2 D* V. g; P/ t' h: L
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
7 V6 d, v$ ]" ?* |the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 l8 [" j. y3 _% f8 f
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
. N# ?' T/ m/ B# a2 S# ^0 Q( Y/ g3 oboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is1 i4 i8 R6 k& J* N: o: `
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
5 x5 t- \- N' Z# q& lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
- t7 j3 j) x2 L: K: n5 q: F0 ystaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend8 B. R/ p/ {, G [ F' P
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
0 |* N0 U" q9 @) I# f( c Y9 c3 c1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
3 {4 i4 X' H, R/ \officers of the Coalition
, k2 E7 s- _! _) a/ ?! r2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
: t- V0 H. r1 Z8 r! Jorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations5 l4 C/ D5 U' J$ Z& m
and public institutions: z* t4 o9 X& t
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
$ f& Z9 y# `9 K% r. l6 qfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
( F( S# g( h. X. Z' }1 g2 q4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community; Z- E0 x3 c, o; i8 R$ }
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with& p8 N- h" X: r- P" h7 H/ b

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community+ X/ u2 h9 H4 [; c

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:4 @4 X7 ~5 r6 o5 Q' H6 _6 S
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- |- R6 X; N3 T1 V+ c( y0 K
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of m* L7 Q' b q+ L* N" p. }& j( \
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
9 X- |, n7 T. y/ M) K$ `& a5 smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 q7 a& n1 H a& {5 z8 J2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 Q) D+ ?% g+ }' w! N1 C

9 R. H+ n0 r4 C7 u: ^5 sRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
2 L( V( L: C% E" ~' S, u0 IAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to8 P r1 g6 t( c/ Z# F: F
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
9 s0 J1 T& O' voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
0 Q/ a* \8 q* j# N* ]: uThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and) |) ~# y% s% t0 X' @0 T
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should' H- J5 G' [, F
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. \$ J4 e! W+ Hparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and& f# {9 R$ q" D `
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
" B4 s' l: O' U7 [8 ~7 L0 Ndirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 _- b+ P9 p6 j4 {5 vstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 {* B) \% y1 |
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
