The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ P! q5 ?$ O8 \3 C6 O# zRoles and Functions* S4 h; W: H- E( r. V! K
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
2 _, B x' C. C9 U% B E% t( Iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
; a8 S* f5 ?: Roperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
" p" C3 J7 _& G9 c' dthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,) v* k @1 l' T$ R: v9 X
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
; S$ l5 v" c7 q6 Wboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
3 c* V7 y) p0 n& P5 Q& E& {0 Pconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
( b9 }2 Z6 A! a0 ~4 remployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires# `1 Q0 `9 Y# I+ D
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 h3 F8 r' A# K6 Z: Qall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
7 p( F- O; b+ y. k2 w. Q1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the2 p% D' o% @' G) c: s% B3 a
officers of the Coalition
7 ?3 ~- ^- K# n- C! |/ A, I2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 \8 [" ~; B7 {3 _* R+ Y# A3 s3 x
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 y* G" ~! [0 x' h; P2 J2 R
and public institutions8 V* h: _1 {! q. g( h: f! R
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through2 p8 H6 ^/ K8 T- m; d
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
! d' Q! P8 K; p9 O1 O4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community1 q Z& W; s Z# M
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

diverse backgrounds

7 ]( e9 g! ~3 K G5 \; tAdministrative responsibilities:
+ R( L c2 ^& X7 |1 C" A4 k# b1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its) _% a' ~" u% r/ X0 K+ y
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 J, V% L/ X; h3 n9 cdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% V# [) w+ m, i3 b, umembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
2 X1 [7 E0 s/ R5 W( Q0 ?All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
1 p9 S6 L! u" H) @' ?implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating1 e- H5 Z6 @" j; s' ~+ X
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
+ [8 t x, q" @+ ~3 NThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 Z8 T, z! r5 H5 I% T3 T- k
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
1 P, S, T3 M V/ E8 [- Dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership) I7 W$ C, ]0 C) o% {9 x, R( K
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
1 d% l$ s( j4 W) T; S, ?facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
5 L( {! a: m' a6 v6 l+ ~directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial2 H* M' @+ f7 @8 \1 {
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
# l C; Q# |( Xmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
% }7 Q7 a5 e3 q# W0 s9 K/ J: hdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of9 x) h4 q% G) ^ q5 b: a
policies already adopted% s9 ~% R# A# h% B1 m

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and
