The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
" S9 F9 O. w% D7 r% WRoles and Functions
4 l' R& H, ?. w% H4 G3 Z) XThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the2 v# p H% {4 L7 ^0 p# |
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 I0 i8 \# v0 Z+ V" Ioperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 `9 r& s9 F* z$ }the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
1 S+ P2 O h' v% c! Z# L0 Moperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) V0 M. [8 m G+ o% ~$ kboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is" h9 w g* ? T; m/ w9 f
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
- _+ D2 L0 [7 C8 ]8 ?6 ~. n xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
' J' m8 g5 p! e! [* `$ i7 {staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend9 C+ E8 A2 w7 |/ f! t9 w* R9 x2 Q
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
$ k" f7 S9 o! a, M& R6 pThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:+ i! j$ t" w; d9 y# [* {
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
& ` M( q6 m/ U/ ~officers of the Coalition% I1 w' L% h( F7 d( F
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% \2 O& i9 z6 ]7 b4 m2 K) H
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 E Y& a. X4 j5 @3 Rand public institutions/ _: ^1 }, Z# T+ `8 T2 ~; S8 w, E
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through B3 w R' T6 [4 D: ?$ h: [
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
D2 d" H! u& R) q4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 D& Q3 a* d8 jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with5 ]( e# }* w# Q! V, T

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic. \+ x* V$ X' M/ [' b
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society' p; q) J$ F+ K( J6 |
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working9 L+ {: J4 [7 L# }; j4 f4 M5 M
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically1 N+ |( p+ Z6 u6 r8 b: H- `* p0 R
diverse backgrounds o5 [! Z( [: Y
# l n) }3 [, kAdministrative responsibilities:/ Z8 O: C( G/ S. Q5 @" x, U; c
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, }" H3 w. j. K; S' B
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 D$ k; U1 j n
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the4 `3 t+ Z" T( n" i3 U& i1 _& x
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

4 M) W+ T$ _1 w) WAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
% A) j9 N% |3 @& Gimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
7 C; V a3 H6 f d4 E: a: P5 qoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.6 |& Q D& p+ ]0 R# A
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and. H5 S# F) h6 o' F# J( X# @
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should* Z, z: E9 R2 j% ^
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. V: H {8 v% N. B6 i) f' o: eparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
* I! g5 I |; ?. `- H0 Gfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
% R& a, I! q- |directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
& Q6 a( a' T1 R Y3 dstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all. D; G+ R: f" }1 L) H" J# l; d$ Y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* o' T# ^) ~+ _ C% `
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
