The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition, u0 j$ n, ] S2 U5 \
Roles and Functions
+ l, f- q- C! s& `0 r- kThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
& G5 q$ u9 c+ j2 g. Korganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the' F! }# H) W* b, g: [
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has; ]$ t8 W8 I2 B& w3 r
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 g8 p, o) n6 X; l
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 L4 d5 X+ H* c9 m$ B
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% O0 [6 k! p' E& @+ G% r/ { d0 ]conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
/ ~$ r8 L- I2 Q, }3 N+ B# remployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires- ^9 _4 N8 G! z, I
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
$ J1 c2 I$ Q( mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
& Q5 ?0 j' x: h( ^, WThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:( [' x. y, A+ n5 w' x
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the1 Y7 r* L5 Z6 o; y; c) m
officers of the Coalition' S! e" a T8 U( A1 b+ Q1 K1 J. Q! K
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural! @# X1 Z7 }) G
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations* L# w" `: `$ Z, _6 }+ m0 p
and public institutions h. n8 M" s9 ^( N. Q
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& [+ Z* G4 F1 zfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives3 f: Z' r/ P& {* K5 i. {
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. X( C1 g( q7 [ dorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with' Y- J( w, `/ n1 I$ w- ~" M

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

6 T! ~ _! {+ K' q: G1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its; Q2 J! Y+ b$ {% c* b+ G5 Y: m, r
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of$ c( S0 Q( ^* A3 y! l* j
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
2 {9 O+ C5 K1 a. I( L% I0 Ymembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ g1 E$ }4 Q/ y+ j6 s5 M" E
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
' { x+ q) s/ QMulticultural Coalition7 E5 r5 ?9 ?: o2 S
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 \ d* o8 }2 K0 [2 ]3 AAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# j% u0 N+ a/ I7 ^8 |, y
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" M0 f! t) C% T0 ]6 `% toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.2 m; l8 r5 @/ p9 b {
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and# X F" |9 p. `3 C ?3 T- g
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' ~6 F5 k! Y8 B- }be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
$ E F" L7 C4 F) R5 l% Hparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
6 _* m" i8 ]: gfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of# D2 L; P; ?1 v! j) I! O
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 K' t( K* s& R. a0 E8 L5 ystatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; v5 ]2 H% S6 U9 P0 K9 Lmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 p" E7 q5 Q5 v( s9 Z, H
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 S: C2 y& K. ^( L4 o2 d

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
