The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ D- I1 C* c0 U$ l2 ^( gRoles and Functions
4 Z K" B- Q' N! oThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the g6 ?" j* n$ K8 q+ g8 u7 c4 L
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
+ y& |, S, }, l* Z4 E* U1 {operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
* Z. o5 b! A( x3 ?; t7 G# Xthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 x0 M) W, R% q! H# V G: M
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
* {& | Z9 Z/ T7 `% y7 m1 e' g" uboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' h1 l& X+ r$ C
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an( f7 \7 M: U; p& D2 x% t5 E
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires/ |9 M: C8 b0 O/ g8 }$ U! t
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; W% {6 c/ i: m' eall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

9 O4 J- a( B- A5 e1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the. Y; h( G! R' T9 p& N

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural& `' m! I# {' l: S! c, D
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations

3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through

Administrative responsibilities:! P8 V0 N5 s2 d- v% c& E
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its0 a5 b% E$ T, R6 i. B" \8 C- h$ `( L6 l$ s
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of; i' ^* f A$ v8 d: \
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* `9 |" C, b3 R5 H+ [
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.* K/ e" H3 n: O4 M0 O8 B
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
/ `, m0 l) ?' u! f5 J5 o4 gMulticultural Coalition$ g) ?9 i; O2 P# ]- G
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 \# v$ l5 y l3 p1 S1 r
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! n5 B! B, T" o1 k
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
, _) v& U$ c0 j; B& Doperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.# p* e/ o' r# `7 V! J. s
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
( Y4 {# X: o: v' K; Maims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- [9 z1 Y$ ~6 ~, I( T6 b) Tbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership( G P8 ~4 ]3 y8 _$ t2 z
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and' ^0 K6 p" Z" F5 R
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of9 \( @/ G& A& c! W* p7 ^
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial) \: o* g" ?& }& i7 D* o
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 V: n. s; V1 H) Q- W6 Z9 q3 @
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
/ r* d5 A5 d1 ?- Ndirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: u- Y* y8 D( d2 j
