The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
$ Q1 c/ v7 N: D9 E. s7 w, X# `Roles and Functions6 e; p7 A( p* @
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
! _8 |! w' F8 e) n9 ]: f, R! y& N/ vorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 Q+ H. v# C, j2 R& Noperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has, p! }) _- s, I; q
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 B5 h5 n4 w+ ?# t$ T
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular. {) b$ ?( p- K5 T' R
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
' {* n7 e( C% ?9 q( ?/ H1 q& {conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 e: t- m$ n) U) F
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 G. q' z# Z0 nstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# j5 {' c& }9 u2 G2 g
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.; B, j& L! C; A' |4 Y

Functions and responsibilities:

officers of the Coalition
- {0 `: N2 H" ?9 h3 s2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural2 y' I' X* K# v' q2 A
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
& F( X4 k. d8 @* L5 t" xand public institutions# n0 y; Q8 E e! A% h
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
2 k7 h/ B* [1 ]: x" ifunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
' W1 P0 F5 Z, u: F* G0 w$ N$ [3 n4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community0 `) g* K/ @8 b, F3 J( D) ^% X
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:
" O3 l* m; P: m, ~" }6 w' K1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
7 |9 d r4 V0 }3 g8 Y8 jregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of4 h( l( q4 }8 ]0 K: M9 K
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: U) V0 U$ q! T, t4 x3 nmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 C/ a. s3 U8 J; e6 G; ]1 J- e
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" d3 o' E) @% CMulticultural Coalition9 k6 b. c) s2 N/ P( r8 [
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board: f+ |+ v- _+ d& M
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ {9 K5 M" R7 Y
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating) d- \; V' d5 P6 j
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.1 B: P" G" E/ x ]$ B8 {0 y. I
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
: K* [( w& l; Daims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
. G" P7 {, m' l/ ]( dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( R; s/ I$ A. hparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
3 f1 n9 m; S( sfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of1 ^3 L; V7 I) w, V: u
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
0 g$ h4 A6 f7 N5 R* l+ a! m5 |" astatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
! j q3 {3 K6 ~7 ^: {! ?matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
! ~9 h8 [1 t; [9 E. d& mdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of" _3 K, `8 \% w! U* [+ D
