) Z( U; }1 K. ?The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ e) j; a- w. iRoles and Functions9 R/ L: _& N4 c
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 J) F9 k- K& p7 z- O: korganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the, h( X* o2 a# ?. }1 h2 ~
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
$ K/ Y2 T. f: l+ p4 ~6 Kthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
8 u; ^# a% ?' [ T6 r9 Xoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
! r3 B0 `5 X1 R, j* Dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
: Y! `+ x3 W+ R. O q; }7 Iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an# X, O; U" q# w5 c. ~; ?2 ~3 W
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires: Q5 r% W ~* S, g0 e
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend6 `( E2 l, _, V
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.8 _$ X3 r/ q5 P

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
& K, Y2 o! }1 H2 [ C% D1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
8 D5 y# ^1 Q* Uofficers of the Coalition
: V8 O7 f# g8 q! H2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
4 o! p4 q& O6 j+ V5 L v: L! sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
' K) f+ o( k. z5 e7 cand public institutions
3 V/ E, M: X$ }+ w5 t1 \3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through$ X3 g( u8 A7 i. r
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives) t; g* a9 {( C/ x; Y: g$ ?
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
, q S O0 K; t9 jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with& b! b, g0 M" t1 ~

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community' u* ~* [* _' a8 P2 V) n! g4 V

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

2 e! ^4 G7 e0 }1 p1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" Q$ k) O/ j. ~0 o- j( x
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of. o1 N+ _ \, d$ H9 z; } Z' ?4 k
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ ~$ T! y6 x! F0 jmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
% s; l8 @+ Z0 k' z0 d2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the" ]3 q; }6 W, |" v" y

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ x) z o: {& w
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# Q+ Z4 x7 D8 h5 s0 @. e1 J
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating' c. H$ K, a6 U3 {
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
: R1 G) h$ w6 o, |6 X6 C( a' X2 I! E' CThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and& |& d+ U- Y2 d
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should' p: z) |8 E- _$ y
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership+ B1 D& `7 S2 M: |$ g5 W/ ?: l
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and; e6 v. d% U! @. F9 w$ I1 h
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of$ l4 Y, M$ i& h0 u1 M
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial# i7 u T% `2 }4 y' i, H: f) H
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
3 p' [2 ]4 F! gmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of/ r d4 f9 X# y5 K# X4 Z
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
3 {' B T' C O- N% b2 c6 L: ]policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
