2 E6 b' [3 D) L/ L( J' eRoles and Functions8 ^, S7 t0 ~# H$ o3 F( J" F
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% z( a& h8 U% R: S0 l+ W3 lorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! g) i; B+ ~0 Xoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has% Q: M/ ^0 t* x' t+ X6 G
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,) j: b" {8 Z A$ l Q. m- y
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
# h" {5 D$ H2 v% K& rboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is( T) @+ B: q7 A+ u# D
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
" t( l3 b5 Q) W U* O8 femployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 F2 {, e, b2 d9 ~# V" ostaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend1 H; t& ~& |5 e6 ^) n+ @
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:

officers of the Coalition
& u4 L/ U( E2 c! s3 d$ d/ K2 \2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
* j1 S- P2 ~% s% {organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations N# Y! Y$ T0 f% Z9 C- }
and public institutions
/ V( O, w, u2 w" e3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through8 C! g) c5 Q) ]6 d) E5 N& v4 @
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
z7 J# R. l* a4 J4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community( s( c. O+ N% B9 G& \ o
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working) c% u. ~: [: g" s S* Y
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically g) E1 @4 d, k+ J6 c6 h, ~
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:) Z0 d: r! ^/ E' Z& R% A6 {
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" M$ k5 ]; W) ?0 l! i) }9 U
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
0 c+ i2 r) f5 K) [9 l5 y/ Cdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the e4 M5 }+ I# h* L0 _. a2 O+ U) L
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 E8 d: a; b D' G! y H
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
7 M2 e$ U+ A2 F9 F) s' Z9 _Multicultural Coalition) [; ^$ l- L$ B5 b3 _+ | x& D
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 T1 U( G- u: k v, n6 C- o' EAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" B" T9 ]8 k* m% y! aimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating* n9 Z! t& z9 _ j
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
. B" x2 C9 A* j4 H& q2 _' s& gThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 q* C% ]( ] w* W
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should9 h5 p" C* _; _
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
1 N9 b' f2 @! t6 dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! Z& i/ U2 ~' @6 W# L5 ]
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of# {5 s" U3 F: I) a- C
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 d$ Z+ E& f" Y3 D8 gstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
/ g$ g& m) X4 S. V, w& c5 Lmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of8 t" g5 r7 c+ V6 K1 |
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
