Roles and Functions L" G+ P3 r" G; c9 }
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the" Y! N: w5 B5 q& A5 i" @- d
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the' D; r( X! w( C# \
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has7 B! _5 ^- Z$ i$ W- _' u
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
9 X2 ^2 O# s6 k' Joperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
/ T" H! E1 E( [board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
. N: _( ~6 Z/ pconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an% U% N, g0 U$ M) |
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
2 W3 ]; \' i0 O; e1 k' q2 b" f1 cstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
* J/ S, O2 N0 b+ ?all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.( G% T# Y9 @* ?$ z* `' i. Y

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
* o4 V# D; m* y; ~& s. L o. i* wofficers of the Coalition
+ h$ @& ~5 E: w5 M0 G3 ~& [- A2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural5 J. C' ]9 G) G3 [" a' y; ]
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 K- {+ P0 P* B2 C' B9 a
and public institutions& v+ d6 _/ [% ^4 B( P4 P
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through& M3 F3 @+ b; G. I$ {+ B
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives1 J, I: ^. _7 c+ S% e' F) _6 h
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community( _- W2 R7 k% z8 S4 k6 W |0 n' y
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

7 t0 b# f# \7 h2 I! E$ U- J- T' g: v! A1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 @( o. F' `# G" f& r' [9 Tregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of c/ Z$ C3 O& K- e
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the8 ~0 ~! d% C0 z& W( r
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.. d j7 C* W( o O h/ S
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board- b" T/ X; y" \+ A8 R
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to: I0 v) Y! l# m# |
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
# K1 I$ x4 V! G1 f+ j- p/ Soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ I- R4 Q* f4 E7 g, J; pThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and ^6 S9 K5 y M0 W1 M+ t
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should0 H9 N& L- B7 _8 ^& j, ?
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 N. Z2 @! a' @4 B" |1 j
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and. K5 E3 L0 X, [7 j# r1 Z4 i3 h
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 b5 r8 z- n- z$ `8 V0 }. Rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 B2 m) A+ Y( Y( X" j3 @7 D4 g+ istatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
2 B0 j( K6 ^. jmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of+ }6 s3 P& F' E1 T
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of* Z9 d4 P8 R8 F9 o
policies already adopted

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles" V" c+ F; I% S% b# v' ~1 V
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and
