The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
8 i( g+ J( T \Roles and Functions
/ s2 E/ F8 {* z3 xThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the; `+ z4 m6 {+ O! t* f; B
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the# g. M' g* G! ?1 E
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
4 E2 S& f" t& E; y. S- R2 a1 W- R1 r& I1 _the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' d0 Z7 v5 i/ r; \! b2 roperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
; e+ X: `. P: U4 i# {board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
- K8 s/ v. `5 Hconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
9 r4 ^; I" v4 z; J, Y4 gemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# {" I# R D+ B" I* ~staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
0 k9 ?) p, p/ N, B# yall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.& h: F+ O( {9 ]3 T

Functions and responsibilities:
9 J) r# U, u: A, Y G. hThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:& o/ n. K" J" N0 r4 @9 Q, k# B% ]
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( g7 w& M+ z7 B: Y2 @) d7 z
officers of the Coalition' a, e# ~- Q: ]- z
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
- Y% n" F4 D/ V7 Worganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
/ i( |' c [* t/ H6 dand public institutions4 p+ N6 v6 M- | y3 b
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 m Q" [/ Z8 ^% j/ T+ v) ]7 @' T% I
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
( @. k' J0 N5 L( Z4 U% m/ k4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
: |1 p+ y! z8 ^2 ~9 [organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic0 ^ D( T' g% M& ?7 Q, S

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
7 B+ \6 O8 [- _3 y" g- W1 ?with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
& L. E; M+ |8 I' |& U* ~& t; |8 V$ W) mdiverse backgrounds% A1 V- h" F: R3 `* ~9 A
6 m' ]8 q8 ]4 x2 J6 mAdministrative responsibilities:1 E% w, d8 D# B7 _7 o6 }" j
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
c. d8 P# E# j# a/ p) [regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
3 _$ _! F" Q; K& b; ?% g, L# Y- hdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the2 F- g; k7 Z$ R5 h7 ]/ N/ x
members of the Coalition’s financial condition. W7 ]& f0 ~( I# B4 p
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the, w/ D3 I5 B+ I! z

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board% b) B2 I8 J. o% q( L( @6 X
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to6 \6 i3 D+ U- e8 y v- }3 d! l
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating& u6 ]- b+ j5 x1 F3 q* d! [: @+ H
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
6 @0 V3 D8 E/ Z( O( x1 E$ LThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and1 R. X2 y6 C5 Q# ~( d) H
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
4 d5 U* h3 F4 T6 G' S% sbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership. Z' R4 E8 `+ v2 S6 l4 x
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and( G) }$ j7 B; N8 d8 Z1 j9 N
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! s8 Z- R5 t# v) R* R. B9 `/ pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
. [# R/ S$ G A& Z( P! }) Qstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
' ]9 \6 ^) f' G# Z7 D/ omatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
5 `( g( Y8 c1 ]% n& Ddirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation( i% r$ h! x# M7 h

communities
! Y0 x# c8 n( m. c7 P2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding) H; w. [0 r. r8 p; U4 f
opportunities

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the+ G" n6 l: v. l- V# I- u6 f0 O
community level( K2 Z' u; U# P# }0 |# ^
10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

Pay Range & Terms
1 a0 i$ @4 d( f6 a* F# KThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with4 w. {$ ]' Z% u4 A/ q! R
possible extension depending on funding.
