Roles and Functions
8 p8 c4 _% {5 I/ i- i! q1 fThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the0 I( p V% x( e2 k5 C$ _/ Y
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
: I P6 f- L( ]4 y, s9 Foperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
) b# e# c1 t3 Hthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, r* @; b* g- ] s& K7 Ioperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular( ^# G' n1 e, a0 p4 h7 {" |
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
9 O& Y8 G8 A) [( y5 |, T3 B _conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
4 D. v4 j+ G2 B) bemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires& v7 ?0 q- [% f, @2 D4 B T* M
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ L+ i% r1 ^( ball board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
7 c8 H3 W/ s' f3 m' u/ t! D2 L8 H0 aThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:2 h& l, _$ N6 U6 \9 Q9 w
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the: o- E5 Z& |3 |' ~1 M4 h
officers of the Coalition7 P8 K9 P+ v% t J
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural- ~! U+ B8 ~3 e0 d7 b7 B6 a2 j
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 d/ y; ~5 @2 j5 f, @! E( ^and public institutions! I% J7 j2 Y1 F5 m7 E% O
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through- R6 D1 u3 `7 z6 Y
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
) A, o9 r5 v- {' K) Q0 ]$ A4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community& T7 B7 r: t$ L' T+ \3 s
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic9 b0 }' f0 Z( q! E. h
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

9 ^" [; y `" D8 M7 p7 qwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
: E% {! s6 I' O4 ?8 m1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
( c, s: l4 Z" A" e$ u4 e7 mregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; a0 R# v& }2 p! U$ Edirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
/ h2 S7 j( a2 ~ Q* Tmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
8 F" S) h$ n7 d* P- H; `/ Z# e2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the' {/ D* d! J8 D4 [/ S% T

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board) ^1 y% N$ _; T% J: g3 q/ b
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
$ }4 {* B, {9 K2 n2 p Bimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating( x4 P0 _! ]9 C- @4 d
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; X7 ~8 p Z+ `4 A* k' l6 V
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and( j/ ]' X5 T( h$ [0 i
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' o/ q; `2 H9 ~% q" N7 y6 gbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
) M! A9 L w0 |$ D0 ~# E% d i( eparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
4 w8 r2 R. C, J/ O% l' Rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 M7 }* `5 f6 N4 }) C5 sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial/ ?6 N! y, N$ Q" |
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
6 T9 \1 r, x$ J2 s% {matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" @) c3 }( x, L* X/ y
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
