The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
8 u+ J: ?, ?, t# a- \+ |) a8 dRoles and Functions
% g& k7 }+ u8 `( hThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ Z. f7 u V7 g! a5 d1 dorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the; f7 r7 @% v* P& v- Y, V3 G
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has- }3 F# ]1 A0 D9 i' [* t m5 ^
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
% t! P7 P8 U5 [- J6 w2 eoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
5 Y- p" s, a# y4 }board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' Q& T9 N* Y9 O
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an2 r9 f1 d/ G n) j8 g1 q5 q2 |
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires: g. s4 B5 s# l9 S. z0 s. k
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; k7 T+ w4 Q2 f4 e1 q; m# call board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ K# E4 P2 M3 h

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
. _% ]% P1 `$ H# x* {, L4 Kofficers of the Coalition0 P" s, @3 z1 O0 p/ w( _9 o" v" ]
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural, m6 y6 S+ ?4 V) P/ w
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations5 U t U1 ?7 _
and public institutions
2 y% Z9 o7 m2 L4 p" Q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% K0 e' m4 B g$ E; Q/ w. y: V
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives. x2 a( j+ }9 h2 @5 S
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

+ r' G0 g! K" `, IAdministrative responsibilities:
% @; v$ O- v5 f) f& ^$ g- T1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its: F1 i1 W( [& z B$ P- W! t
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
# L4 n, l6 w+ v' i. }6 D Udirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* ^4 k3 y6 k( w7 P
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ Y* j! V R1 ], @7 c1 y
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# D/ t" w6 v. P

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board7 p, \2 d+ P& f! ^# @
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" H1 s# I5 R+ ~; {/ q$ b6 jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" i) R3 E9 \8 ?' {) b
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.' R0 I* B- p& F9 s; E( L% M
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
8 Q- g; e3 S( p c" t1 h7 r$ oaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
/ O7 B! R9 X2 B1 R7 {be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 f0 P. }# H+ M$ T* s
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and0 {! t+ A& E! B7 R U" V: m
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
: f7 K7 V) \$ T$ w3 m. cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
; T6 D. i) F7 tstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
: W$ }9 _$ u% U9 mmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- Z. o1 |" {( U0 y: Sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of0 t9 q% d; |. ]( _% q

Pay Range & Terms
