The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition# U" }" n$ S, a' _7 D ~
Roles and Functions
|- q# w% y& |The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
5 ?; ?- ]2 I; s" e6 gorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! j! ?) z, b/ k! [! R7 u* Xoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has" p; L. V2 w! B; `3 i. O+ C9 B
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,# u; n7 d8 L8 a4 p( ~7 Y
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 Z+ K7 W0 j! {, T' G @, j$ O
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- e/ P/ W: _! z- d4 v5 E5 L
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: s X* l" \3 |6 _' d
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires# q9 m) v5 w) D( q# y5 I8 S8 q4 f
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

- a1 p, d& m8 ^The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:! t, F# I: m9 L+ ~6 f& ]; c
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the0 U2 w/ p$ Q# Y! b
officers of the Coalition9 N+ H$ _6 S N0 Z: E. U! d2 j
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural ^4 q! h$ e, l! o" x
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations t+ W6 x0 O3 y$ M
and public institutions
{* w' c% g; q+ T+ d( z! v3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& D, d2 o1 Q) i* i! afunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives3 p- } O' ?% }8 q& Z2 A0 u9 S
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community9 T/ _; h. ]% f' D3 @
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& m- f1 _7 Z& Z6 A6 m- j/ A
leaders

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society- N4 F; k- d1 n. m. j! `
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working- s+ t: ^9 U% Q, S$ g2 I1 |
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:% w$ ?9 ^. l" _
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its# x; G% W$ l M/ c1 {# d' w5 Z+ O
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of; } }3 Y* }2 k& m+ S9 b$ {
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
G) A7 D8 ~2 B& d1 [! }members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
! L7 Z: g0 S+ M$ \/ U/ @- n6 y3 y2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

. t8 r% f- F( r1 Z6 c* x7 gRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board$ N' \. c( y4 _
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
7 Q' w( V+ V* T2 ]0 p. qimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
& e% W( ?- @7 @$ \! R6 woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
' \: U& t& l; j2 i1 D sThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and& b j' P" n7 H% {& m- Y
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
& O; _ N# z# R) a! x d* Tbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership ^, Z* m+ |$ ^- t6 k% O/ r$ H/ ~
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and7 q" f! Z5 D0 b0 L$ I' e7 T
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
3 J4 b) b$ h% }directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
0 o! Y g+ j X$ }, q3 u- ]statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
6 t) R$ ~/ Q- F$ Rmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 l: {: X! Y. M! M \2 E( k; n
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of+ y1 B. F/ N3 \2 \9 l% V
policies already adopted9 h4 I6 \/ z3 W% e5 ]1 ?

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation* x# i2 {8 [$ C* _
for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles9 T% _# p5 B* @; ^* Z$ o$ D: `
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
