3 r, k8 o. B: \Roles and Functions! y# q" n; G* `' _
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* R( Z t u5 r. D, Corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* ~8 T, A. q# P/ Q0 \% ^
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
! J& O$ P" r% uthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, l8 D! X) Q( g. p% H! yoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 S) {: f# Q. ~4 ~% Q
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is3 G6 O \" k" r' _4 H2 l
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ ^2 l0 t8 k1 m* Cemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires( m! c3 P; [* v t0 m: D4 M# u( k
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. @' M" q! O+ w4 O
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
7 b! G. B9 b# b1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the0 f/ Z* ~ a- G+ v
officers of the Coalition
. c8 C+ }! x) f8 P! p i2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
; V2 H; @- o4 E/ G. C# O0 ?# aorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, \9 w3 O( A$ [( [& L% G1 p a
and public institutions2 d- P% I% O" {$ e# v* n/ a
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& g$ e, V5 l3 b1 V. L) Gfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives- @( y1 X6 i/ ^3 W
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community' V" V2 R, I7 R: x q: }# Y
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with8 i! _8 F% ?% o) z- M% Y4 }

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

Administrative responsibilities:4 Q, R4 O' B9 _, x. J ]3 C
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its1 ^; f9 v b) O3 [) Z- O$ w% P, n/ W
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of+ b$ x$ R ^, `
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
, e- w o/ P0 ]2 V1 [3 U1 P% qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
# N3 }* T: }& d% ^2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; q0 [2 c' S/ a& Z, X' m$ pMulticultural Coalition
$ D# U n3 v* V. u" wRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board, t( y, a0 L7 y" R
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to: V8 o: M4 L2 h6 i$ l
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
( f$ `, A6 [3 c( g o$ eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
! C! s6 \0 _$ {9 g- O' t; pThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! H8 J9 J5 B. o; ^aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
$ C) t' G5 i, }* l* o4 abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
" s/ M1 |9 h' wparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
- z9 [9 F3 z6 M( H2 y0 afacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
) F2 _; u3 _8 m o5 Xdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial& ?' T' z* J6 k: r
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all' D! C* E- i# `% I- j
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
& Z4 i* Q' X6 Edirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

Pay Range & Terms

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
