Roles and Functions
" n( n; B. l, `9 `: qThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* P+ z( @) L5 t9 Dorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
9 n5 l1 A6 R7 Uoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) N9 m3 x. h0 X$ N
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
: Z$ }- Q7 ~0 {8 r) t8 Boperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
- p' m/ u' T; Nboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is! x" Y8 R! v3 j) J* ~7 H1 E
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an2 R4 z2 b. J& F# z/ B% r
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires* Y" [( r5 H% U& J: X
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend$ b% y9 F" v1 K& o
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.& x2 B( V- C5 }2 l; B6 T
; I1 s/ A8 p2 w( @- YFunctions and responsibilities:
$ v5 y- F( s9 j! XThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:( V* a% O. t% s$ ?9 I6 P
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
0 q c O7 {% _- lofficers of the Coalition( W1 o- c: y! }2 H
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural8 o' \6 j1 o. O& e. p
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 d( T: i- j: @3 o7 B$ e0 ?! ^& U4 K
and public institutions1 k( L1 N4 c8 o" H6 V
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. _5 E( E" w4 gfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives9 `2 ?8 l' Y" \' g) G
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community/ ~) c2 F/ k( n/ r$ d
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

& u9 a2 r+ d) ~/ Y- L9 ?* d- ]5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically% M% ~& v8 K4 M, i
diverse backgrounds

& A- X/ x" n% I+ ?$ q! YAdministrative responsibilities:
+ e% V9 n* B7 k/ {5 S: j1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, h, w5 |: x6 r3 k$ V
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
* b. P' h/ e0 V6 h2 j0 Wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the' \! E8 K5 H; H# ]' B/ o. V3 C$ L
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
/ v3 f3 M9 F6 d% J3 n, V( K L2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the& W2 W0 k/ h6 a$ {9 \0 r7 e2 O

8 j% r# @. _8 w0 ~Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
% X- L }" q# W3 o8 mAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
6 q$ Z- a- u" d: a, y) Gimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" c- v) m$ C' e" b8 ^2 N' Koperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 }/ G* K. A# i3 H: p' x
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
9 U h+ n5 E; Z* T. `' n7 `aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should6 [" g9 I' T7 u9 _( T! \- z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership2 ^7 a( h% y- w) Y9 k' a
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and. a5 L8 I6 u% M% `* B |, a
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of0 m* T2 Z. A$ @; a4 ]
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
! ]" }) G6 |6 W7 n# X' astatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all) ~# P- u: g& G! }5 \
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- m2 t% m Z- c, J. Ddirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of* s9 r& `* i8 \" e
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
