Roles and Functions
8 y6 u$ Z" a/ _9 v5 j1 BThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the& R# k4 r! {" p2 a) {6 r( T
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
) d9 c, O: m: z0 boperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has- P6 W6 l: t# X5 w
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,7 S, t$ b3 p7 `$ c Z
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
( a. d8 z3 I; a' Aboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& C3 J" }: `8 ~& }! x/ t/ hconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
$ C! {9 c- z8 k6 Memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires$ \" p( Y6 C0 ^ t5 V6 s
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
2 S' c x% d/ o. C, Q$ i# q- I; ]all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 b% I. Q- E0 e& T

Functions and responsibilities:
* A% S2 @4 ^! d. I. M8 IThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:& N) J/ z6 m/ k" j6 [9 f9 z
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
) }4 h2 [2 H% m/ tofficers of the Coalition+ P3 H6 N+ E: V" Y$ O
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ q4 Z- E7 ^9 C$ }4 borganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 U1 Z6 I9 w" X
and public institutions
3 m4 _$ e8 C) Q p7 A4 S3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
2 g) y4 K/ k! ^/ g/ ^funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives4 J( Q, e5 t" ]
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community) ]! L# s o% c9 |, k
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with- X8 H. x9 M" r" q4 X

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

* s" u6 q- y& F! gAdministrative responsibilities:4 I2 J; G: O0 j+ n6 x
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 T: g8 Q4 q3 f" q$ X/ gregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of/ q' H8 }1 ?$ O: Z3 r
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the5 i6 a: q0 K/ v
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.; q% k. e0 Q2 D+ e- R
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the/ n& ?/ b/ ~- e( Q8 k& L

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
" [- N% s1 a& v5 J( w1 FAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
- H! i7 K8 x4 Q$ vimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; X* n ?3 M0 W" Y( Roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ J- B, a Z8 k5 h, nThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
" l9 R" Q& F$ E: {. A0 Baims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
3 Y) y8 W. W/ M4 [( @& ]be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
" p0 x7 y5 g5 F) ~* `participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ j* m+ b6 k1 g( U/ yfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
$ C' a6 Q0 `6 b' m; u" [; P8 n! fdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
/ w' x9 G6 I% s( c mstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 m& w, k/ ~* Z# [, Z, ~9 }matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of! }6 W% S0 J5 ?, X8 z7 x' P, O9 l1 b
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of& U8 r' H& y$ S8 {
