The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ H9 C* u1 \- u; w. m/ M8 ARoles and Functions* T- K/ w/ |7 W/ F. S4 `
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the9 l( _% x* o$ r6 \" |' ?' P" d! D4 l4 G
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the( Z) A/ N# B4 ?( a5 R6 W
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
( J' s' T* }, a3 [9 ?4 Mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
) u) _! h# ?! Z% j M N( xoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
2 A% s' ^- Z, a& k4 N* ]/ l5 Z6 Bboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# x, {% F% U* q* T Xconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
]1 b4 q3 A( lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
7 i; x6 C n* q/ `! }" U) Ystaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
; ` D4 `. n0 [+ dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

% ?; P/ X! d, B1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
& D' Y( S' h8 }2 v. N8 T yorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
) m; x6 R s( W" o2 a( S' C& band public institutions
1 G/ z/ ^- o! O3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 c: m! ~; E# ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives% C' ~, X2 c- m$ n: F
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
/ G* ^4 Q/ U* c& D5 c* C# ~2 c9 ]1 k+ ]organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:
- E L4 A! J1 b4 B, m& T1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
: w# w; R- E6 G4 [" V. V* O3 \regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
. S! x0 B9 B( M6 y$ Y3 Idirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
2 c5 T9 g. |2 x, U0 b3 N! N/ l! `6 q3 Mmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.- X/ d+ ?5 O4 b6 E) K# @2 @
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
) f" i, U4 S1 ~; @Multicultural Coalition |- @& z! M) h" F$ q9 Q5 w: b
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
: e. b" e+ E. `All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to% D. W; k7 w: N. r! R
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating+ a( K5 Q9 X. j3 j+ Z3 Y
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ |) O' M5 v) _& d+ iThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
5 y- m& c) C' |- x) L' u9 ?aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should: o( T( E/ O. W* F* [
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership2 _& J8 u* s) H7 A
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
' V( P X: P; y( C9 M. e7 Ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 \, X* d$ H4 V1 r5 g$ O9 Edirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
% K/ S$ q+ I# w( F* y- M. ?, Zstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
