L9 ~' O9 D g# Q- B( gThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition3 X% |6 B" k1 ~4 d8 c
Roles and Functions
) R6 n5 ?' y9 I1 V! P8 SThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the9 H- D" a$ V' |$ d3 g; P( U+ |: W
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
% ^, ]( j4 i% j- t$ C2 voperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has4 m% b+ n7 v( V. L, M0 t: }3 N
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
" D# u/ g5 M o4 [) ]; n# z5 Roperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: W+ }9 G4 [/ B# u8 Pboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is0 k2 C$ E; S1 [5 K( W) J5 J2 `/ w! f
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an; v% n& u- G& I' K7 _, [0 |
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 Q7 z# W* Y2 F% o8 ^
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
7 ]% m- Z8 o$ xall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant., s! X, a8 `- K; \
# m1 k+ w+ Z) t$ LFunctions and responsibilities:
7 Q% d- k. b! E8 L0 oThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% c# \* d4 E3 y$ J' _3 ^
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 _$ ~# M; w5 J$ p6 l
officers of the Coalition
) m# f( o! C( f* H2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
% }. ]2 T0 G( b! i! gorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations1 n0 S5 {1 B/ D3 k
and public institutions5 ~7 b7 d4 s7 u) E5 H
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through1 D0 `* W! `4 H. W; \0 S
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives. H( S7 i' e4 F5 {; ~+ C. }+ ~( q$ l
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community, M# e# l) z9 X% S; q1 m& n/ a
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with% c' n1 X6 O, a+ C: N6 |7 P
these organizations
6 ~2 s8 M3 H& ?$ T! o+ a7 @5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community1 o" ~+ B4 O+ t& P7 W4 B/ Z) i

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
! v. Y( f9 @6 v; S$ t2 `1 iparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society# N( u `* v/ N' b
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working- i! t7 `3 P. Z# O( N! i# _$ K
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
- M- S/ {4 J. L% M2 i# A* Hdiverse backgrounds

, `& m8 s. }/ d6 w& I# dAdministrative responsibilities:/ R* \' H" V- J6 |, `' X& E' c$ {5 m
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its1 h& S. T" w: ?, S8 n
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
5 k: H/ {. r+ R1 p5 |& u$ ndirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the/ D# l( g1 S( J: I8 M: K8 t1 i
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.- q+ }* b) i& e% d
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
( L$ e: c+ l/ K% R, h/ P! v9 m$ @Multicultural Coalition
# Z1 f1 D* [$ L( P, }4 S- c7 qRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board" R6 W# ^0 n! W& i3 A) F& [" ?
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
% A q& R5 c- z! s a' C& a6 u* ?implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 P e/ m. w/ U1 [2 k3 W3 s. M
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.( f a M9 @" J! h/ E8 @
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 ~1 \3 r! I' A) Y" w2 ^
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
4 W# @ u! B* U, L5 w5 Rbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 j$ K0 \! Z, [. y; |# F: O% a
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ N' o# e4 T% k1 d9 ?facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- m3 F' U/ W* T3 ]# b" x/ Pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* s9 ?# k" [! v: C" zstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 _; R7 U; N% S5 y9 J; mmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of; F; F$ [8 s2 L3 y; D1 j! a0 k3 u s
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of0 G, [3 X) Q, m) B7 H9 _( x& m
policies already adopted, B7 m8 a+ e1 l- [/ h, @9 \

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and( v7 t; t. P) a+ C1 t% z$ |$ w

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

Pay Range & Terms
9 X+ x2 _0 a% PThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
