* h: N! ^# m* b6 s# `5 U9 j" nThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the% _ _! q3 l, U# [$ M
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the" N ]' b9 F d( ]3 ?% M
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
# G( l, z1 e$ k* `+ @9 C9 _8 hthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
( L* M2 r: P( Ioperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular. e0 }" C; S; [# ^" C2 {
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
4 H; Z* R5 C; e5 O2 u: F4 ^6 ?- X" qconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
0 y3 h( K; j2 S& _employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
4 e+ g! H+ C1 \8 r3 i9 tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend) Y0 \& L2 f M. E7 J! C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.4 W, Y! `4 L" L9 I

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 J9 b. Q" A' U( ?0 t
officers of the Coalition
# w: j: d, ~( [- A2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
, }: h0 ~, E% \7 p& W8 aorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
* c" i1 [4 F5 N4 O& b$ }+ u% Eand public institutions
7 Y8 x4 \) y$ X% b; A5 ~& }6 s3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through4 @1 x5 l6 E% |: m
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( N4 {0 ]+ [" O8 u9 q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community& o. c! y1 h' ^/ Q* t
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with$ R: C d, y. U u$ }! _- @

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

' C9 a. C6 D" }) LAdministrative responsibilities:8 ?+ ^8 u/ c' V: s0 a8 R# {2 W
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
- e2 l7 |! B: b1 t6 G, ?1 C9 ?& j jregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of* f# S6 X9 l( G# s y4 |
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the( v+ }3 i U& A% M. ~- H& x/ ~
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' R0 m3 ~6 x* p+ I. x6 q; u$ d2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
/ ^: h; D; C n! iMulticultural Coalition% u' H. V! M; r4 r
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 @% N0 k: A6 g- DAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to5 `; L: x2 [2 m7 q
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating$ n6 Y' k( Z# ^9 P0 Z9 N
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.' q& U% w5 `8 ` A
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 R- V! K; T8 s$ [) ^ ~
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) ]/ `8 R1 I6 l
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 w6 Y/ t) h7 G F
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ ^3 V+ Y. C, l3 [2 k' F. ]9 Q+ X
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 ^1 N( Y9 i. \8 j' p0 ?6 K. k6 Rdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial. ]2 E$ C6 `/ z4 b) a) ^3 h. X
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; j4 I0 |8 }1 k, r& ~matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of; P, k g6 S1 g& \1 P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

community level

Pay Range & Terms
; h9 f. j; E+ J" e3 U) TThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
