Roles and Functions
+ V! y8 @& O# W0 O5 A0 E* e9 eThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
a9 H0 B, p+ S* a! m. |organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 [4 p" |; s: A& t7 ]
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has! r: D: g% t7 k0 X
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
$ ]! {4 I5 }/ V* t5 g, _4 @% ooperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
6 K: i9 u4 f0 oboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is0 p1 m7 s, R7 o5 g; V9 Q' o
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an( S/ y) r7 C8 C) {3 E- t+ N, H( V
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
* f. ` ]) |, v' S3 D+ s; U8 e; M% mstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend% Y6 }: I" d2 n: N" A
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:9 m( i! W% |4 E% N* q& i" @
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 p+ C" v5 ]8 y1 f E3 S4 V
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the) e( J- N+ Z1 v0 `, ]2 z. K
officers of the Coalition. X1 X7 ?6 K% i2 w! }% p
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. z6 F; x4 o9 H* ~- x
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
& V N7 Y+ i. b, R! \& Jand public institutions5 M, m0 i( d: O; ^
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through# F5 X% b2 E# C4 r
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives& T6 p! V+ F5 H( z8 r* ~
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
2 m/ p8 t/ S) c$ F1 \6 R2 Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
% j) ^* h# w' ?* c( qthese organizations
7 r2 z0 s% L+ h4 `: f; o! o5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community/ ?; X! `$ f. A4 I& k. w& Z
leaders; ]7 U; D- K/ X6 U
6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
! q- _4 P! O8 K( W' xparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society: @- [' T" w" E4 L" s; N3 J
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working9 l* F5 U8 g7 S% U3 D
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
* e8 ^+ F/ h9 [, d ^diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:, k1 p) |- k$ u. n F! F# u: t9 p
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
( {' x& Y5 `( \1 b$ q5 m5 L, B6 Pregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of. R3 I7 L7 V! U7 m; x/ \/ \) A6 q) J( r
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
9 q) x/ X$ J: [" M ^& `* ^1 f$ Omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ |: {2 }( J' m
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
# c; M, j" p( e0 [8 mMulticultural Coalition
+ K* \5 Z4 x) f6 ?4 N; gRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 @9 J3 j# K5 A' @All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to( J' o- {( F, ^6 s$ y% E! O3 B- T
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; f* S, V o: d, voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility." L3 E+ h" G; D' B; }. C4 r% g. u
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 V: `, i/ }% r* s* i) _
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: g7 L5 |1 ]0 R4 H! w+ ?be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
+ Q- i# o% A/ P9 l( zparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and9 Y9 V1 \. v! P$ W; {
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of0 V+ A4 b! ~2 Z5 G# x7 f( u
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
5 C5 Q* ]/ g' [3 ]# Ystatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
8 m) h- K9 q$ `9 X. o# ematters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) l- v! z- h' `# _& Pdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: q3 l; I" Z+ S9 U+ k' W& L! \

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
