The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition5 ]) n5 X" i- r# j2 x- N
Roles and Functions3 l6 p9 j: y- K) Y: T, V' w
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 Z2 c3 U7 N" u' Dorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the$ A: `, |2 T l6 @4 c- S. i
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& w3 b, ?8 V+ l2 s0 ]
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
1 U2 D/ M, Q& `4 y6 G3 Z7 {operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular2 r3 e7 ?+ x) r5 t$ I7 |
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
( {1 X$ Q1 A/ \& U9 ?. S: y2 y% wconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an/ N# G2 A# u+ B9 b
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires) p# C" j! k4 m+ `6 @
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend% K# a( v( h+ E5 i' w
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.2 j, t& S8 h; `9 H, I6 G% c

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
4 q; j8 u6 o* [9 Q- [" i5 V. A1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 G$ \1 S" m) _/ t
officers of the Coalition
$ V% ]: ~6 M4 x1 A) ~1 F2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
4 K4 Z8 r2 u$ corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
- ~* j& n7 _7 @5 v! W0 \and public institutions' y( ?4 g* m9 O( @2 _
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
1 ?8 G. Q* V1 |3 _funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
$ T7 f3 }% G7 l8 s4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community1 C4 N# h' R A" N) w' C7 B6 Q5 G
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
# G8 h8 ]' y: w- B3 g1 Wthese organizations$ e3 J( F- M( J; v
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic! q8 n5 d7 _; J3 ^) S: j
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society# n. i- V7 Y) M1 G
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
, w+ F& L, ^" G9 ]with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically# r! L) O y9 B4 h
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:
+ }; z4 i2 _! L' e8 T0 k1 g1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 {8 f; z3 A1 b4 [0 s
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
) t+ [+ c! S) C) x! t3 odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the' Z0 t/ \6 o9 c* e- r x# m
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 P4 h# p5 x1 c; e' p9 A4 [, @5 {2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
/ S- M2 q3 i1 L1 m9 \) E" DMulticultural Coalition
6 ?: m% Q/ X) T- h1 y$ pRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
8 [- u; C1 s! }; X$ MAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to4 q) H* d; ^; ~9 v1 ]( r N u
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
4 a8 Q+ C# e0 o; e7 soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
* c8 S( O. |+ H. ]$ _) X- ]* RThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
$ b# p8 c9 Z6 `# D6 haims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
/ h$ a6 z x1 h! T% Q# Lbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. v0 f$ ^3 |2 B& c( O* e9 e6 N" Oparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and0 @- R" y5 B% J! V
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
+ O) t G; K; x6 T3 ~' `' n2 D3 z+ xdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial! t2 E( m) J# U/ l; P
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
) a+ Q4 N9 P7 a% x" V; fmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
+ [+ g y/ `8 z) H3 t# Q2 _directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
( ^; G% k& W1 G9 b0 D& }( {1 ypolicies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
