The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition$ D, F# n# L9 l g
Roles and Functions
7 `& S- o* B3 [7 A# g M6 SThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
# G( g2 Y, a0 u; @. Z5 g: I2 v; Vorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 _+ [- p9 H- v% c& `0 D" ?operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
l( ]( X: Y. }: D2 K9 Rthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 k3 C0 i5 X0 p7 l; _9 L. n3 {: w4 [
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular$ o# y! y) F+ N ^0 \7 z) g
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is, D) t. t( ]* u; G: L5 V" z5 o7 `; C
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
2 T0 w* h( U' T7 N5 u6 Z' J: `employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires8 R/ \, g7 B, s' F j7 Z/ Z2 h
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend+ S% N8 B* L3 \; {0 g7 e; }9 d
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.4 `" d4 [* Q! m0 Z3 Y. o

Functions and responsibilities:
+ g. E7 ?% [$ `9 x7 JThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
- @& I9 p3 G5 q( S3 n1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the1 I9 a2 U0 D$ ]
officers of the Coalition6 y. S/ b+ I' \# ?. \8 e8 ^2 E* O
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
' v/ h# ^7 C& g2 }; `; }organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations. ^+ ^- p5 |2 F2 N7 F1 V) o# K' j# k7 s
and public institutions
! q6 [3 B+ [3 S7 x3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through+ i& ?; p3 e3 b% t. v
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
. t6 ?5 h9 Q6 |) ~) ?* ^4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community ?) [# v0 |8 k6 T s( o
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with; G Z0 q. E' {* V( S8 L7 c

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
! T" [. `; O" _" l1 g ^with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

+ L7 h& ?& e# z+ ZAdministrative responsibilities:3 b, l5 N' D" [% {- O$ R* h
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its6 t4 ^6 M( J- ~7 A$ b
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
- J- J! l! i+ V# |3 ]directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
/ t h3 u) T+ q4 B' @members of the Coalition’s financial condition.3 D6 u4 L) D' m: c& b+ p
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
+ y% A0 J L$ t! UMulticultural Coalition
3 N) Y7 x: H- pRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ U* X5 B# e" ^
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# _; Y! `: {( v$ p/ f
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating1 t$ U3 i& I' }
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
0 j5 }; |' m: M* S8 XThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 M) n( q, B2 s! D6 @6 a3 E
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' z5 C, W; ~9 T# R, t2 [be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
9 b$ ^( k; o. y( v6 K0 Jparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ G2 ^7 L. h) W/ D) ofacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of H1 t5 _0 W+ H% _& E
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
' b* f+ Y/ K! l* gstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all: y" ~. H6 W* w6 v
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( F/ _0 I; s, {+ n& Z4 X6 p( ?6 Tdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of8 I0 k. m& }. j( o E2 g
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
