The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
8 a7 u" Z5 s" i8 H5 @; WRoles and Functions
$ b7 _* V: D4 j* E; O" A. {The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the U4 v0 k' h" }+ I. {" n
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
, W, x! R& U8 x6 F k( Eoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has6 W9 o- H6 z, v' n2 P, p
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,0 `; ]1 ~/ p. g
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
8 q8 [) F5 j) k1 ?board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 H- Y- z( L0 k
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an' ^; }' q* Y% P5 t' i# H7 l8 i. ^
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
4 V' W' y- r7 C# ?staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend( x( g1 \; ^" z7 T- w
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 x: Y0 W) c& K Y, R1 G$ f9 ?

Functions and responsibilities:! i, a; I; t7 h# b# N
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:) W2 z% O/ h* O* N) f3 l& L
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the7 t6 N; ?, a* _8 d2 i3 G/ s
officers of the Coalition
7 d5 N4 N+ L4 z0 }" h& f2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
* v' A( _4 K( s9 {organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 O' j& D+ Q& y! H6 T8 qand public institutions
6 H1 W- Z& w/ ?3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through5 s `2 {9 [, K9 j3 `
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives' n/ _" P6 z- } h k" g- u
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community2 H2 I5 I: G$ p0 @) D. n( N
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with) x5 }% d( O, O6 m! _

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

Administrative responsibilities:9 I4 `% h! Q1 n) |. S
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its/ n! i8 D& x4 i, D0 \+ I& E8 s9 s
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 c* F1 ?, r$ L7 j8 R: u! C( ~, @directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
& I+ u, k0 C6 i+ K8 Qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' y! i3 j" Z! @$ {) ?2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the U. F6 B' a; P) C

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
8 p, [* s! ^' E9 H+ GAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to+ y! q( s4 f; H2 R7 Q) V1 g5 O/ r
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating, D0 `* z+ I/ o5 W" h" p
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 r! D8 \4 Z8 [. B/ r5 |8 S- kThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 n% G2 z' n$ l2 e3 D" g, q
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- J( e; i) Z" O$ P& f6 hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
! F. U% g! H1 j q4 {participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and- m$ P" Z' l( J0 {0 s4 K" D' X
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& o2 c$ `8 A; r O, n
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
0 B2 U# \( U8 b. vstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
' |) I8 s; h! }. Dmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
; d0 s* J& {# I1 Q" B7 fdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of# W7 G& }4 r; y

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
