The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition" Z2 R* H; Q0 c: @$ k1 h; x8 H& @* b
Roles and Functions c7 L: @* J$ p' K2 l' |' t
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the$ f+ h. X8 x: l9 K8 A+ p
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! N' `- \: A q5 R% ^ \/ yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has2 C9 a, n C- ~4 m/ V ]% c: }
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
9 _% e; L* [: ]' B7 W3 Joperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular1 w8 F- I0 @4 m% }. E
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
$ {8 P7 C, W2 s$ ?; pconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* u( S' i) m1 ^' \$ |
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
7 O( U; P9 r3 \8 _% vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! A% q* S: N) z1 r. X7 i$ @, K
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

) U" P, \4 B# I3 ]6 W! q% eThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:* F* j3 {8 v S
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
$ X* l( b3 I1 M* t+ r: Oofficers of the Coalition
% |! j9 z! i Q- u- L q! ^% S2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
$ L0 w+ C" V2 T: q. L3 e" x F- S( Korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
( b( h5 V; m" H2 l- Tand public institutions& E0 ?7 P8 S! L, m( _# s
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
4 Z0 r: \6 O6 vfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
) V" v" A' @/ X) B5 T4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community- G$ K* g3 z& D% A* q6 O( N
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with& p$ t5 Q+ t- L4 l# {

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community- O9 W8 Q$ k4 \( W% h

5 M$ A7 V& T% q* k$ ]' P9 q: l6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
( b: m2 `8 c& x s' ^participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

$ F2 `# X- D( m5 yAdministrative responsibilities:% r8 h8 z* w, ]" X. `# G3 u
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- Z1 O# I/ O- ]& J' i2 ?
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
2 I6 m1 H' z* P+ U/ o0 _directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 o8 q- `4 v, ^2 U/ U" P; E8 H1 y% Ymembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
# h: a) O n7 q8 ?: ^( j4 t2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the+ P& m7 F& M9 ~$ b4 h* X3 O" C

3 [: T, a: \+ A8 Zoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.4 ?1 q0 ^( k! }0 A+ o5 q6 i4 l0 u
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and" Z `! b; l" J: ~5 }
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
/ z+ O: I4 o1 b* mbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
) G6 d( Y) t- |1 V+ U% `participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& N2 x) D8 T# ]1 m% Vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of5 w' Q8 Y- `& h' B# Z
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
' ?) M/ @3 G' G- |# }- [9 Wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all% a7 Q9 P9 O2 e8 k: C. `
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
