The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. j$ b8 j; L% z1 C( E* j& \
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
9 A$ O' h- \" u9 Doperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
. \) _/ _7 e( lthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,% w* K1 [5 M8 D, o
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
7 B1 Q% @% I0 w7 \1 Y7 q7 C" dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& S! _6 U; Y1 ?% Z' Y0 N) ^( [conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an3 Q$ {4 X% o% ]% l3 \- D
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" r% S1 }# D7 L" o3 c4 F U
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 q3 L8 M1 N% a. r" q9 h: }% d
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:$ K2 X7 l" O+ ^4 d6 A
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:, d1 ^% |8 o# ^8 L
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the/ V- y* Y% L9 z1 M
officers of the Coalition+ ?0 k3 O( n( e: G; _
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural4 R1 K. ?- P+ X0 a6 a, D
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
$ B/ ? r/ ^% O* ^6 a! {and public institutions: N# |) }! K' f
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
: m( y" W b2 \& k5 C+ T/ efunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives, a- [0 h. k+ @' x) h& t
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community+ D3 {1 H, N- K$ u2 h
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& T8 ^% @1 t: q: \3 F8 L
leaders

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically; N' E# X' u5 b. R6 G8 ~- ?! ~

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its' b4 L. i2 ~' E/ ~% J
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 C$ c2 O* |! g. c
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the) G% a0 e- n' o( @
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.5 f9 k1 d1 D5 B5 K0 }
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the, _4 C4 U1 ]' f8 P, B q

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board+ { v# b0 S6 g# l) I- B) \
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' L9 S) v+ C: ~; [+ O
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
( U. t" i! @/ }4 t$ {3 Loperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.8 A3 M7 P7 C$ J
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 }. C; k+ t3 b8 T: G
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- u! g1 O3 y' v! O9 Q0 U0 t
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
, Y W6 J: p& T/ P+ yparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and2 x; t5 N/ i7 }! w4 Q
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
: H, ~8 F- [5 [) M1 V5 I3 kdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial5 P5 x4 ` N ^4 @* S. s
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
2 _. a( ?/ s4 K5 x' F8 Zmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" W$ T1 @! F; L& k9 A$ ?$ ]% X1 N
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of- C5 X4 B* W$ l0 W# Q" P

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
