The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition2 N8 F0 C0 n1 v. h$ \/ E. j
Roles and Functions: P$ y4 @" g0 u" E3 i2 z
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the! Q* l0 j5 ~: s4 z" G% n
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
' r1 w+ J( e7 G% doperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has$ T/ ^8 L. J g) A
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
1 D/ l( ]) x5 a2 w# zoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& [; e4 i! Y4 l& R4 G
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
8 F5 t8 o/ H# xconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 Z ]/ t/ E+ R9 B( X
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires: f u8 ^' k% M" ?1 {
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 F3 v2 w. J/ v' @, P
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.% e6 Q# L [2 q# y; x' g6 H0 [3 M

Functions and responsibilities:( Y' b; R! `" V; x
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:" a. ^2 D c# L" r
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. |4 e. |9 g1 C$ @# y
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations0 {& L0 [$ a. O7 w% B
and public institutions
5 n) @, K9 K I! @6 [3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through4 p2 Q2 A4 ~* b) X
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
& o- |, v) x% p: ^, q1 M/ R0 k! t( H4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community( t1 x" Z0 m# l" z
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with" ]# U% [, @( l4 U8 f# D

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community
! M6 @1 o+ [6 Z# n3 rleaders
; t% I8 M$ l. J. a6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working- B4 \0 z, |' j, D9 q7 S
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
. m6 O$ {! K- G0 z X! Z1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 V4 l0 }( t& f. p: F! Jregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of0 O; N- I( y$ B9 n
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the# _! z# B4 F. W! I0 F- q
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ x3 m4 r1 Q) X2 x
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the* u6 A& m& b1 r& j% o( h

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board# ]$ ~$ u% C2 E/ a5 O
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 Q W% X' c y0 x/ O& Yimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating( r" M& b* b$ l7 k$ @" `
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
3 I5 H! N& B: E* O% ~+ ]The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 R( D2 Z3 f0 a* ?) {5 o
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should- J d, i% l$ Q
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* d3 b: [8 b( W# b" W
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and% p% I5 {) ?- Y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
5 b) [, I" g0 q# [) cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
! h& k: k% a: t3 istatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 Z* p: {$ a6 t2 ^matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
* h6 {& i0 E4 @5 q7 y# B K! Cdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
) f3 B% n% J" b# a9 \( i0 upolicies already adopted* l6 g9 R) R" L* w$ m3 v# K

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and
