Roles and Functions
0 S3 r& K; f: b6 `0 e0 A8 o! g& @The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
& D# e9 c7 E% D% Zorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
4 Y" }0 o) g% x. E, F% j) Aoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has, o% D* n' z- h0 f
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
! j1 N) i$ Y8 C N4 y- noperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
3 i) \7 I5 s$ d3 X! \1 Lboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is$ ^, [* {. w( S& {5 ^
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
- t# i# A& l! V* P5 M3 a& ]% Lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 c4 r$ X2 ^/ [" k, c
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend, g: t% L3 I; d
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

; t, R/ D- t! D1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
7 l, d; q2 v* Q5 uofficers of the Coalition: U+ y/ ?( o5 K
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural+ R* I; |1 c4 n2 G, O
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 M* h4 E8 M, E2 tand public institutions5 I( h- D( f# y
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
: T% k. G/ ~2 b; ~3 M& _funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives& t$ {+ n2 E" c; w7 e1 u
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
) \! J" W7 E: H; M8 E& K. ~( l& Dorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

Administrative responsibilities:1 g4 ^% R% P/ }
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its: T+ |) N) X4 L6 U" Q4 U
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
k. ^3 R l2 p) q+ N+ ~directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
9 _! R: ~, s* o3 I# amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.% J4 S9 B% x. D+ V9 Z( e
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

0 a% \% K3 U8 g' \+ x, w3 HRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
# J$ L4 Y* c4 W( H Q, d$ [' lAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to8 j7 _4 [& m6 I* Q; B
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 S+ r/ Z, l, r1 x# x8 h( H9 A
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
' b4 V* D9 `: i$ u$ hThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and: Y1 W+ ^( ]0 {: G* ?; C4 [
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should: |3 b5 I* \* g2 q6 A
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! [" Y- y$ a5 l- y/ h
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! k8 _7 I. D/ ~
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 [2 q$ q( P: W Z, W G" ddirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
/ s8 h: J1 ?. }statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all) z, E7 f* |6 f4 n1 R# ]# h
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
