) Y4 J. C$ O1 ~% t3 W& @ E. @Roles and Functions- w7 X, U& v4 W: K! @0 }
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* H* \+ s- {9 @! Corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
' E! ^5 @$ O7 C4 Joperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has \) f4 f0 A* U9 ?, ~8 W
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
& H9 m9 \# _' L. [operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
- j! Q5 E4 I( b3 u5 M( Vboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is0 N2 N) \: g# l- v
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 v0 G5 M$ B5 f& {* C; j$ H' O
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires/ t5 N" B f$ h
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend, K+ D; z: V) Y+ G' m
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.3 |: P, J9 {8 u; C! E$ a

Functions and responsibilities:2 W. J. H! m- P
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:8 N8 l5 s" e( K9 W% r1 M9 c
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 s5 D6 p% V- _/ d: x# n; a
officers of the Coalition
! D/ P2 f' x: i' K1 v' l! {2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. \/ g$ \+ y: a, {
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 d) K* g2 m4 I( v& V1 w
and public institutions
% D( Y/ u) o0 e8 B, d3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
! ^2 u5 S9 u) Q U a8 I: y$ Yfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; \' J- }( z! w; t
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community% V* E# I3 w+ x/ z) y6 Q
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 |8 t9 ]) O4 g- f( W/ b5 ]

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:$ A$ f9 e8 X5 G' \% }7 S
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
& c' ~" U* P1 d' _regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of, k, V5 L; x% c+ M3 Y) x$ j; t2 \
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the# f6 d0 J) d3 u
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.( B6 M, |8 g4 ?: K; M
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the/ }+ |5 }( f7 c9 k

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
# v- n i9 F2 P: qAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
) P* ~9 Q6 j) V: B' [$ Aimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 Q4 _, V7 b/ c* i0 \8 Y
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.* w) d0 V$ ~- `$ m* `/ m7 d( k
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, i1 B7 p1 }& ?8 K9 S3 Z3 X
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
# b) o' t' E) z) Ibe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 _) k9 v9 U- q9 h
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
) z; t3 {) s- T- U6 ~8 X0 [/ f( n( Pfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 D6 S% h3 r, T' g: {8 p
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- B H1 W" ~/ P/ P
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
8 u1 l3 D+ F' S# Q3 }$ H. ]8 zmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
$ y3 S7 s. `9 h. f: ydirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of3 J9 M. C# Q3 m
policies already adopted
