The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
3 w8 ?' `7 T, E* f3 FRoles and Functions) q0 A( P `& U2 i7 A8 t& W
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
, a* E' b. e' ]) h9 j# _) _3 [organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 R+ u8 n2 b" A" I$ F" c
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has+ R& x$ k5 i/ u; Z( g, [
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,2 k* f7 Q) m H& \5 o! ?8 v0 v
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
i7 q1 |/ A3 X0 r/ c/ qboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
$ u% X! x6 _' o7 z- hconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
, O( t5 E4 Y v1 Kemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
+ Y' t2 B+ X/ M: cstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
6 E0 u2 v% |( T) v4 ]all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
# q! H% w2 _7 x2 nofficers of the Coalition( y4 k/ ~% F4 z/ f5 |7 L
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 j: `& R8 v$ `% C0 V% h5 j% n
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
! H5 }) v$ G/ X" t& G1 Jand public institutions6 x0 P3 v. d9 _& W+ C* V
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
" K7 W" W i9 K+ ufunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives. |- B( _9 M- K/ N, S5 B
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 x+ q+ A0 C8 J4 corganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its# z; H4 G% \! u5 T
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
M9 B3 g, N9 z( `2 X/ @: Jdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* J" \$ ^* g) ?9 u9 [3 k+ G: z. U
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 m; w' w( S' w+ K$ o- R- O9 e. ^2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the: v8 H* c6 l/ J, X% w- P$ b; r

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
! ~ O, P) J q! X; \4 EAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to5 N8 o* L$ k5 J, s0 N# m1 u5 T5 u/ ~
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 S, m, F9 S7 L4 x
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.+ }# P6 }2 D" R- E9 }' n4 H
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
7 x) z# ?( |9 `0 W- iaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should6 x% I& c( [+ t) m g @
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# f* h, z$ a$ h+ {3 C0 g; ]
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
, Q, H! I6 x) [facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of+ \; X& D6 }+ J+ S
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial! k p; S8 e0 H
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
' d9 |& Q, m4 H' a- c% }matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
+ g- P' @. g& S- vdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of- \- U& y: {" |

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
