6 V( D) F/ d8 F" Y& O8 VRoles and Functions
* a" q1 [* M( Q3 O" jThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- Z9 O' e q3 [ @4 porganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the E( [8 {6 C4 H4 U- j2 N0 y
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
: u& a0 C ?1 ^0 x2 M) Ethe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
) E: ?" {8 v2 ~* K3 ooperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& f' }5 z4 k4 H; W
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is5 x! L( r0 l* u9 D
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an# c1 b4 ]' n) Q: n! _; i- _& I
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
& q% y$ H& L/ _2 P; D, `staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
5 J+ j2 x0 s& ]all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.0 R- Z* K4 M0 y2 }+ r. Y+ k

: P7 b. ?3 N' H7 Z; e- ?The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
/ s1 d8 G6 s- S1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
/ \: u- K1 Z, i7 h2 K tofficers of the Coalition( S" U7 s( i" c/ \4 ]4 ~
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural' X" G' }# x3 {. b/ P( U, W" Y
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations/ W' ^ h' E1 V) g
and public institutions
; H0 N3 r7 g6 ?$ `" I1 S) N4 R$ n' P3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% ], `: V- m* ^0 e% R m6 ^
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
' |9 j3 \1 V! ^+ n4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community$ G" {6 C3 d$ ]% _+ R
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community) L" t) ]$ [: l7 y, y. s

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic5 Q% E7 E* u7 J& T/ j6 r8 G3 Z7 [; P
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically* f7 g! _2 D5 F" _

/ A/ [, v U$ a; f1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 A2 D$ D3 d9 I% D4 eregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of5 Z3 k1 d7 j) ^# Q2 h- g5 F
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
0 v* K3 g5 t3 e9 ?0 o, `members of the Coalition’s financial condition.! x" H. J2 z( ?+ \
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the2 A3 W: j0 Q R5 K/ F+ D0 y9 V

$ N+ s3 [. j/ o/ P) KAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: X( t( S6 v' G4 V7 ^. Z: _implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
2 |& ^$ a4 e1 p" |2 A6 zoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.! {7 I' a7 W" E) g+ \- w, W' B
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' _5 e w/ f. K* J" F4 S9 M r; F
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
5 Q* D2 ?" y0 U- e. g z. Ebe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership* y: `8 C5 d( y5 R
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
( x# M- O$ }. f# mfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 O0 ?6 z$ F6 R1 C2 ]) f
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial& t/ W5 {! [- D; Z2 F
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all4 x( P1 |% ~' y5 I2 e* \" q/ Y. Y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 B% D9 t8 k. ^/ [& a5 g0 n7 b
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
