The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition( v* c9 c, V. e$ E* x' Q7 S
Roles and Functions5 K* b. c/ _9 O& l& |" }( a) _
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the3 O* i+ z, o5 c" h! F
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( T4 _+ H* ~# ?7 qoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
; K1 U, Z5 v! Jthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
. I$ T0 O/ j5 e4 \! h. `; ? H- `operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular* o1 N' L) Y; i( y/ p. d+ K
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 G9 Q" B' Y3 J, f# N
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
: T6 N: C' S# j9 z' V1 {$ O) vemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
* X2 J8 |; r; Y: P+ k4 g6 ^staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 X% I- L$ q; J; e
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.3 A3 K p6 Z& @- X

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
9 Q- g5 _- b3 f$ u* W F5 ]1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" ]# w* }9 i- |( Eofficers of the Coalition0 I3 j4 ?/ v: ^
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
$ B& H5 J, |, Q; Xorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
; [6 h8 c9 Z# z) B& hand public institutions
% y" }7 }1 l- I- ` K* x& a7 n2 k3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through" o! N! _5 B# g9 q
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives" b3 C1 o$ _, s
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
9 {! U! C; R& N+ Sorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
7 D( c% {- V! E% i1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
: D" y! X" R7 oregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of. R: V; ^, F( N5 j
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the% X) v+ p$ M. [8 U
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.( a3 M# m; X% P6 }" ^6 E
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the( U1 ^: P! n! ^4 m, C" @* ~3 g

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
+ E- K' z- r$ Z* _2 i. uimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 x5 ^& s; y5 g7 @0 {operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.. a! H/ M! N0 `
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' f# U2 q8 E/ }' ?4 `6 I- T
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should, O4 Y+ Q T3 ^2 Z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
m0 N5 A; N4 N2 S; r5 X* \' Dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and, o: z. x$ S( z8 e
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
6 W# \. Y: f. _5 h4 cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial( x: \8 x& I6 M6 Q
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( U2 V1 I; F$ b& e9 ~5 _
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ ~, M2 u( f8 H9 d1 d& K
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power
