The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* _6 U" s: Z& O
Roles and Functions
" A2 y" \9 y; F* W0 S1 k4 gThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
7 w* t1 ^! D0 A! U Morganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the' A& y1 a3 F7 N
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
; S4 _- H0 T7 K9 b5 J1 @the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,( Z* V+ R, a- N% O4 U* ]# p; w
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular7 H4 @/ |- }8 V0 \) C
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% p7 M! G7 K- A6 w( m
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
L* r# q: V, c) X# s! L: Demployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
2 W1 p3 b T. b2 w* Astaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
& P( f2 @/ x% L# K4 @3 _. ^all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

officers of the Coalition
4 {! i" ~* s8 M& Z) Q2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural+ R% O& [8 \, O3 T) R( {: A
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
6 l. j5 w4 k; `' Z. }% O& |9 Wand public institutions% U# p6 c) l) m) v! n
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* o# q s% [! _: qfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
* ]- ]' d/ n) ^/ P& K; n( S4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community$ p7 Q7 E8 d3 S+ V
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic B j4 n" Q: h9 n
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society& A' N% Y$ T4 ~' B& i
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
# ~% b0 j4 j+ G# ?0 {# i+ [with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically4 U% ~* Q% ?& o5 l, ]. j% a

4 F1 T0 Q+ `# r$ e3 a: sAdministrative responsibilities:
$ Q; V& a" u- g1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its: b) C9 l' N* N' \( L! D$ j5 p5 }
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of" m% M* R, m) f- t
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the) t0 R6 {# l/ V# I8 ~$ H: G
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
( }9 s8 B" _9 i6 r' }& f! y+ p2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, y }: N2 s* h( Q$ tMulticultural Coalition" _; N% W; z1 p/ Y# X8 w. l
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board' l) K5 [3 o' ?4 _/ Z J
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to% f4 R! B0 p$ Z: d1 f' ^& S8 B
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating; D L3 d: s6 u' C/ B- e/ I
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.7 P# d( ]! X/ ~9 {2 H' d; m
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 m/ Z# w$ B, d6 ^7 H: X
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
8 `9 E; t7 n9 t1 V9 _be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership6 w& C* g& ^. p. G) S( c+ @
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and3 c7 W, R$ H+ w
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
& {8 [& P: n) m* h" V3 U, Qdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
+ Y1 j) p7 v+ ^% s2 t4 Estatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
' g) c6 \ n/ d$ ^matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of) w$ B+ F$ f: j! Z
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of9 N& K5 Z! X, I
policies already adopted; i. s, J; A( B, P

any related field is desired

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
