* t: n$ W) `" M6 mRoles and Functions" {1 P) z9 }' D# F$ W. S8 t
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
. @' v/ U* z% \organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! F/ ]8 }# |9 _: u* {' woperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 B! V Y, e4 `4 ~the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,% v! T1 Z7 e! F5 P. h! R* q! c+ D
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
- ~ d; p& _2 O& |board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is6 f& N% F5 ?5 w7 i- I
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an+ R1 P! |7 \+ w4 H
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" K s1 A; y C
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! k: H8 ^( d9 ]: n. B
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
& S7 u, ?+ H; I& r: z" f5 P# `officers of the Coalition
L& I) w5 X) }( _ z2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
% y0 m r# n+ D Iorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
/ I1 |. B2 V* X; band public institutions5 n, M7 _( ~" }6 s) r
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* c3 ]2 W% l! Cfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
}: f/ V3 _% i: \7 H' B; t4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community" j: E7 ^7 U9 C+ t: a% }$ l
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

Administrative responsibilities:' w2 s2 P* h( E) {8 G. O. H5 `8 a4 ~! T
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
, f: ]# p% `$ t( T" Q% X! G3 \, zregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of$ E$ s- C% @0 ]! D. o
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% z* X& z5 c, m! mmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.( L: ]+ o w0 P+ i( s6 V! F1 E O
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the% e/ W' Z% X% {7 K* D. U/ a3 i

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board; s z U/ ^+ R4 Z4 P/ @
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ }# \8 N! M: j- g
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
0 `; P1 H% p* t8 U+ [2 noperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
# c: m- i# Z$ X6 f, _! X# YThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and- {- S7 x' a; N
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' I# r( U0 }2 g! a" Z) E( Dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
/ s: V+ p* c- j5 V- e0 t* e) b; Sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! V- l5 E) ~- |
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 d! {! t; z) ?3 J t: J. Cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) b) Y2 h5 |& n% ~) H4 p8 S6 rstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
, [5 b7 S6 w) L0 G# s5 Rmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
7 m" \& P+ U; K+ u2 ddirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of3 a1 L# ?; E' P* `7 k
policies already adopted
