The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the8 T _* V: L8 i& |. r/ ^3 \3 ]
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the! n! C7 v/ `4 {, V5 l& T/ G
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has g {% p, B+ V9 q6 c2 Z
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,( {5 q; E1 ]1 a% v9 u* X$ \* O
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
# ~( [$ Y5 E/ s* i0 R, r7 z; ^* Hboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
5 d. F$ ?% j, r* f# g7 A7 ]* Gconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an2 s' a( W( F/ O4 v
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 D7 L, O$ z @( F* @: K/ |( d$ Vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
& K1 r6 G# v# L' u% |, D$ i$ Mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ f! M/ v5 e5 ~ e4 Z; c& P( s7 \" `# S
2 [( J! g9 @8 |& i; X3 A) w; RFunctions and responsibilities:
6 S# E5 o# N9 t: g$ q2 GThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:: C q( m# }6 ]( P, t/ W
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
+ ]$ T3 m, S2 \6 [) T% G7 Tofficers of the Coalition/ h8 o0 d+ \: M( k& Q9 }, d3 ]1 Y
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
1 \ r W2 J& g3 R1 ?organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations' ?+ Z* Z3 f% }( S
and public institutions. Q8 O* r4 f4 \& w
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
" w0 C( v/ ?" h2 a% _+ [8 n7 sfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
+ _2 [6 b( q& @. Z. b, X+ _, U2 u6 h# R4 B4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community$ _2 Z9 x; L0 L9 I. [
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with8 L& |, y6 k. ?8 C( M1 @' p. G, e

Administrative responsibilities:5 o+ W" I8 s7 t. {1 ^
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
% y0 q8 Q B6 r! O& d( m' mregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of4 E; f+ c- r5 L. M2 B/ r
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the# X9 |' v; n3 u: A% b
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
D4 i6 y [9 w, b! j5 C2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

4 Z, }. F6 r9 G2 n+ l/ yRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board# Y* F( G, v+ `* i1 I: R
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
7 [6 u2 `$ }3 Himplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating: o' q, R' q! o+ ?( w
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.( R; ^. S; m7 z
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
4 O. F" Q; q9 c& Z$ Q7 eaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
1 l; B0 X/ B$ B& zbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership, w7 r7 g2 R& R
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and& W# p0 F6 N4 Z* X$ [% C
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! S& E8 [! e u6 }directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 N9 K3 `$ Q0 A$ gstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 l3 B! P8 v4 ?/ _matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' T8 ^) {; _' N; `& G
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
