Roles and Functions) e A& e3 U) m
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the6 \2 g- S2 i# u# h; o, {
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( t& G2 E' ~- {0 P2 Poperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has H9 Z8 ^: C' I, Z' F
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,% W* p5 C/ B( [% h9 d' B+ y% V6 H! S" l
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular) ^1 U j) I. R+ `
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
/ R n" `0 W2 I" l4 d- {conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! X1 }' i/ X+ @; u& {( g" x
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
9 m! z) o% O, e: w0 B* h% C/ B; Nstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
0 f2 H* M" V' t: M7 jall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:# s" M% E& s, v# j/ k$ a
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the1 `7 a- g# L& p& D+ H9 s" _( E4 B
officers of the Coalition
1 |! A. a5 B5 H+ J9 F9 s# ~8 B2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 G2 [' r! F- q7 z! |4 t) r
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
1 a5 P2 X+ d/ Q0 e% iand public institutions
' N+ r" b, T% K8 l3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through( C8 C& B, U. N( o# D! Q
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives- y$ D9 W8 ^8 Z0 o: P
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community D$ \( b9 q- d
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with' f" `" B$ f; r# a- h4 r" [

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 M. x. X0 h7 U/ oregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of9 n# u" _/ d% T B" t% t1 I
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: I5 ^9 T5 I( m" p' }/ E3 c- \members of the Coalition’s financial condition.; B. [3 a1 O9 Z! r
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" R2 z. m" N& W! HMulticultural Coalition
7 \4 q6 ^: [! Q% d: A6 t! }4 \Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board r& g/ e0 x0 Z
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to/ B; m- e4 ?. D9 i
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating& K3 U4 h# D4 j* J$ z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 v1 z2 s$ o7 ~0 I' B
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 n: G) K5 `# m4 W7 o9 ]! Q& laims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should2 f$ Z. e8 u- z. b) O
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership/ x2 L; `( Z% j; @! M- U# e
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and2 [- J# l- w$ V; u6 c
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
& [9 T3 R: g- J. hdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial# v' w: ~- c3 j7 A
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( q/ V1 c2 c+ X- V* m" U" e
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- P' u! o8 a' o" P, q- G3 Wdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
) b6 q: W& i6 b) _policies already adopted
