The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the0 M! p# _0 G/ q7 v5 L) _$ V, e
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! B5 l! R: v$ |% Hoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
& g# c& v$ r6 H2 p$ q* Zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 T. G; F* G1 L( S
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular. H! Q0 t, I: X& {; u) f! A
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- i& k W- k! i
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 K) _. k/ s* U6 H
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ x. `0 H! F5 M: f) M# [; c9 j( kstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend4 P; n: E2 u6 }3 y; o
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.5 A7 Q+ ~1 ?7 {6 L/ Q Z

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:0 g; n$ P+ b: e( _/ v
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the" ~/ q: D4 D. h. S) L. _) x
officers of the Coalition0 t' u+ D% w' V
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
6 s4 @- H9 ]; M. V7 H" U sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations# p0 [/ u/ g; V8 R8 h- V7 K
and public institutions
* X& i# j9 _4 j/ a4 F4 u3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through8 \% J+ ~8 A. c$ \+ w# C% q* P0 I0 s; |
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ `0 w4 i6 q- i. E
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community3 ]6 R) d& ^( `& F ~
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

1 G) L2 q/ e1 d5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:/ Z3 n8 q' ]. a
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its1 m* f/ P, N' p7 z9 V
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
1 w8 p/ q/ K* P) V1 ddirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the+ {) s+ R- i/ \7 Z6 T
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
+ w4 N/ s( w- r0 a. p! w/ i: j& V2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
: O3 B3 i5 S8 R* p+ X0 {Multicultural Coalition
4 [% Z+ t& g- u4 b( z; _Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 r6 \: ^" I; F& C- v% DAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 B; x2 h$ g3 z* {& h' L8 _! t; K: Bimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" b/ n5 Z+ X$ J7 N! ]- ?& Toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 n2 L( A9 R4 s6 zThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' V& f8 V. d: W% Z: }: b" g
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
! E9 F6 j$ O1 S! O) }7 dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership4 y+ ]* N) f) q. D# D1 f
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and/ J! d( { o& c
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- y1 D5 A$ t8 Udirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial' f# L V/ v1 w @: k! ]3 A( [
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all# C5 b! M7 F0 T! J: Q- X! J
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
* H9 F- k3 ^! Edirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of& B- i- T6 ?) b! y; {8 ?% t
policies already adopted
