The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition% Y5 [! ]7 i1 d4 {$ `
Roles and Functions# g v' S, E; Z2 Z0 N& V
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* c8 ~7 k( d. ~7 R( R* A! Dorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
% B& o( P* ]5 ?operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
6 `, s8 D6 q- e# d" Q1 x& Gthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
# X: T" D& B: D& O$ ooperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
+ x3 O$ W( A. jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- T9 [3 w7 R7 j; G
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
$ f& x, E2 V% t, N( Yemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires# k0 C6 n. S% L" @
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend3 L2 r! h! A' A2 p# O
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

4 Z) M+ t/ ^# Q$ Z2 IThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
" B8 U" ]8 \9 L5 y1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
S+ V7 m7 J m! C/ Y5 uofficers of the Coalition
* q; _$ u$ e( `9 I; v% O5 x$ e# o2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% E8 b4 O8 ^) r) q
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations0 P/ `: W1 ?6 v% Z% _
and public institutions- Q( g6 @3 i9 p; w9 A) T
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 Z7 B4 L8 |/ }% V9 C4 t
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives1 U' O* T" q6 g6 p
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community7 a: O c5 z9 L' `! e+ m
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with" u- d3 p' k; M: O9 _9 V! ]

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

( E, D- e2 X; X) o- y" kAdministrative responsibilities:! [, w' l" p& A, e
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
/ u- l S" f# {regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
3 P3 E" p/ O4 a; o% X, ndirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the$ X- p7 d' S5 u, k
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.* o6 l! ?( k# e+ w/ l8 v
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
6 X8 |1 G8 A9 `" ]. HMulticultural Coalition
- B( L- b3 R+ a V J& r- c& m3 ^( IRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board6 z. V/ }1 G# B5 ?& J. e# A# s5 \
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
/ p. [. b- K, e. V# S) r. w. e2 x+ {: ~implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating5 F1 T' Q" ]3 j9 y. R
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.! g' y# p- l! b6 ^% t2 l' z" K
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
# a( y q$ G6 saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
8 v i |, M$ v& H, }be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
# H: C& k' V/ g1 N5 w" tparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 x5 e; M+ f( C7 ]2 ]
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
' H" e* @& b2 Z+ ]6 Odirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
N2 {: i& d. O1 J h0 R3 \: H2 ]statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; |' Y" e& N" N, g- Y+ ]matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 S6 Q! y! c$ f" A3 i' P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles4 F$ J+ I$ O& t( V+ V2 [
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
