Roles and Functions
3 i* H0 Q1 U, d- q: i2 P$ w. f% ~The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% H n2 E0 ~1 b9 _- }7 ^! Xorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the) z# [: E4 q, C3 ^& E" ~- F
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 F) R( j2 N r; g5 qthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 s. `7 z9 k' M' G
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
# D0 G$ t, A2 f. uboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 o* ?$ o, r4 `- P( S# V: xconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 i) P, \, K9 [, D. }+ h, Lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 t1 A; ]" ^6 Istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the+ u3 Z; l( ]6 |1 ?, G/ f. I
officers of the Coalition
L- U/ ]! o4 D4 z7 a% U. q2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. N0 o' @5 @1 t6 l% k
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
/ } @8 l4 K) \; Uand public institutions" r' d4 L1 q$ E$ F. s5 ~$ d6 G, [
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through& }! C( L, d& w. c8 [4 f* w. a" w0 [
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives

$ Q. b7 C% I4 J; `& x+ ?organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with7 H9 E, ?) o: p

Administrative responsibilities:7 X( J* p8 G I" a L1 y6 `0 M
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 ^+ M8 c! z# Kregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
. z' S, q" l) T4 Vdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the) p" J* z' A+ d& @1 e, G& p; v
members of the Coalition’s financial condition., `1 K: H, {; O# T- A
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
5 D3 z. y: N7 w8 }, X1 KMulticultural Coalition
: H, q" E& d& SRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board( O$ m/ i% p& u) J
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to* H& `8 K/ E( i# H/ _- X
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) i4 \5 p, X' Voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
) D0 q" F2 l% f; C* L/ c" l% ^9 RThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! b# P1 S- o. a. b2 L6 {aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% j! P" L1 O) ?% B6 _5 gbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 F7 L" `7 `( p
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and2 E/ l5 i5 D A1 m# j: a6 J
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of7 P4 r1 N9 S# F$ F- S! M: E
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
w/ ^" m* f' }3 f$ p6 tstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( M1 _, F! ]% A6 _1 O3 _' L
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
! {+ _4 A1 ^, J) U& Fdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
7 a% G5 e. d2 A4 O1 Jpolicies already adopted

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
