The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
& d0 L1 g8 ?0 j4 q) DRoles and Functions
5 ^8 M. C5 E0 m$ g; m* cThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
Q# _% q$ l1 P8 g1 Rorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the7 [) O1 t4 f+ l8 v& x
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has* @% w! D/ ]/ }" n, g8 T8 u
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
( U- c& [! K) f" t: n; d* G7 [operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
( @2 N9 g! `* Q5 N& Z1 M- L) Uboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is9 B/ t( k* g4 o$ r& \
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
( x3 v6 b! X% `. @; R: hemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" m/ z8 {* ]# k
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend. W+ N& x7 U Q" _0 l0 _
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:! ]$ p8 |. T- {5 c4 c8 |
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
7 m" n: G: P7 x8 n2 v, m" M6 J9 `3 sofficers of the Coalition8 I2 i9 A; r/ Z& ]+ _: s
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
) q1 b6 r5 J( h; f1 v6 korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
5 C6 [" E+ \. Y. E9 {6 c* w' Rand public institutions
& a4 I* b& _9 n% a' J3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
2 [4 [( |& G+ L2 ~0 k; yfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
; A& @. H! }2 `7 E5 J+ t4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
( q( C+ o" H: U2 l: P7 Jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with" m/ l! d5 f: | t, P. N2 K* ~

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
) N9 Q) }7 Q" t. s: x2 _5 Vparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society p5 x6 h5 `2 _3 k' M- c
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
% d: b W C; i% ^" Q! qwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

# [* u* F& ^; K& a Z6 {Administrative responsibilities:% |7 J0 w6 B3 s8 W2 \9 P3 Q5 P
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its7 m* V% Z$ i9 s* h
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of( m5 X! A" @$ E% h
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
( l Z3 r+ f, {3 umembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
/ U9 E% W" j9 [; D1 n2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the1 r5 ]: `5 Q0 l- _! ~

" G* \1 k y9 P }Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
1 Y- H2 B5 ^( Z; C/ LAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
& y1 w% W9 A6 m7 o) w {1 ^implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating2 S/ `3 e/ e. V2 S3 y9 x" S
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
2 n$ I( k3 N+ B6 ^" }The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
$ i* \0 R/ q ^8 m* ^+ taims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
6 V9 H" M1 q* ]" dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( i8 D, v5 V1 h E; {participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and) t4 l3 {( i3 M7 J% T1 R* r1 r& G
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of* Q# G! p4 \5 i9 z6 E1 S
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
, X- |: W, z! y) d# ustatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; J' D6 ~& W. `$ umatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of/ Y# @$ E! ~# \7 ? }$ U6 O
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
& ^& i7 C" ]7 @' v$ }3 y) C$ d5 Z, M$ Xpolicies already adopted

for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles1 }# W1 @7 A! }* S% r) v6 t8 ^) y

of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

7. Community based research skills is an asset

community level
7 j* R2 K" h6 ~6 V10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

% t. v! r" m3 B( |9 XThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
