Roles and Functions
) E5 k4 e) l, e1 d1 ?4 @! HThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the/ b) L+ K! u2 l. t3 j
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
% _0 x9 W2 V8 s8 z5 [operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
' w- c! l! c5 rthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 y% E* x c# K) D1 {/ @
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular9 T- X3 {1 Q% L
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is$ u- @7 Y! _2 A# o. Z
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 r U: H" P" p+ w" ^* G. [
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ Q% v4 v. M5 zstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
6 Y% U! w- H3 }- {1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

, m. S g) v8 W8 a$ s- d5 r2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural5 X3 c8 r: n+ X9 J* Y: \
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations; T4 ^5 G, U$ ]1 D5 w
and public institutions
+ L0 y; x9 w5 X3 F a! o; m; J% l3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through- ~* y$ W4 }3 _' o* R; u& k
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives7 g+ {4 ^; o/ p7 W+ s# D. |/ o
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community) W2 C8 k& \ n: S
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community' k( i# A1 \( H8 ^, J- f

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its0 F% ]4 l }9 g9 q8 ^ Y% K
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
' @2 n. {. h! D' }- p- I. pdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
! [- D) o) \6 h; _9 v3 y) xmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.( _2 M9 l! {8 b* L+ z# {# m
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the4 ?/ x1 i$ X" H4 D4 b

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
! X$ @1 i5 i& G+ Y3 a0 f" Ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" e& a2 d @1 {; j( n$ M& `# O
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. f+ A+ l: z7 q8 x2 ^6 L
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
' y6 y: @/ }8 v; u, m9 D+ k1 s4 Maims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should4 K9 Y. m* X5 k3 }
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
" S: J4 ^: U1 A, b' u( s$ ]participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
1 n% Y% ~0 c* Nfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
+ u0 G% X9 k7 m5 Edirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 v" I. X# ?0 S) @8 v* Kstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all

directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
