The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
# Z5 ~! V$ Z0 N4 J# f7 k6 p% }" Y0 URoles and Functions
# j) d1 L( U, m+ l, NThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
5 [8 u. j% X2 C0 K$ K& Q5 Y3 qorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the- P N h+ P3 A1 j; w5 v: D& y
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) _1 H% P( N {
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
( C' J7 n% @6 h' W) w- uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular1 d9 f+ q/ \3 A- Z) g" @! Z
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
' T# j) r, U& tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an4 j0 d: n/ l2 }) o
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
: X+ n9 q+ M3 Estaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
. N) E7 P- v" }all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 M) r3 x3 \$ o( E) t7 \

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
) {* L0 }& p6 @6 [* Fofficers of the Coalition
1 G! A0 U" @: K% o2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
! C* x7 h3 b/ Y. x0 @* K/ e9 gorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations# \5 f/ {8 E( r2 p5 g
and public institutions2 z( f0 B4 K( a: M |
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through8 E2 R; A3 F. h
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
! i0 W' N) I9 e8 A$ [- D4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
) l2 k, }1 n( T' ^7 Korganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

1 K- i, t$ f4 b+ f$ v' R5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

3 C( j9 i) E, S- S4 `" PAdministrative responsibilities:
* I; U7 l% `& P1 \" R( ^1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 z9 s; v2 F! O/ X4 H5 @7 Nregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
( i8 V/ h; B* y/ ?' Odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# z% U/ y& Z6 m5 Dmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.# X9 ~0 d8 |' }0 m6 B
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
7 J1 J) s; R6 C* KMulticultural Coalition6 Y' B6 a$ k% K% f
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
1 l4 q# I3 {- p7 h3 P% Y$ oAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' k* X1 N9 ], x' G& ?
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
0 N" z7 U7 _# l8 P# o- soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
5 g3 N# V) t' S$ C7 m: TThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and" `6 W" O$ H1 k. M
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should9 y( }! R2 s" i
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. d: Q! \3 y" b! z% ]8 Uparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and; x1 i8 u, ^( B
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" ~* [4 c" {0 D9 V9 U6 n
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 h5 w& v5 U/ Bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all; z" y2 {) X1 T& s! Q
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
! i9 g5 b4 x) O8 n6 w9 Xdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of3 X5 o9 {: ?4 v5 u: N; _4 G
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
