The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
% E0 `2 ?, a# d) a9 T j. nRoles and Functions
1 S9 j5 P8 J' BThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 x# u+ Q& B" @) h8 q4 }organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* K N% n! ?9 }- P8 e5 j: U# H$ b
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) y" S% ?; `8 z3 g
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,) P" k' ]+ B9 q9 Y9 l
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular0 }! D5 l6 |$ w0 f1 ^; ]7 X
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 I" [2 _4 t+ n
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an- \- B7 e9 ]" V; m- w4 J
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
! |) z! ]8 H2 t: }9 j% ?, J* istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 u: X9 m% \" a0 tall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 [; I. |+ ]1 Q7 h

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
8 m$ G4 y6 t: T# i' h5 @- j0 Z1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the' U) }( e! U0 m; v$ P1 p4 n6 M$ [
officers of the Coalition" ~( ?5 r0 l' i7 B+ j) j3 ?/ s5 {
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 Q% @( j2 [. |5 d7 U
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, M' P: e* }( ~4 @5 z: C# r6 Fand public institutions, | }1 V1 L, E2 ?9 Y- t$ H$ J
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through' G$ [/ t, n. U2 R7 B0 Q4 P2 `' @! W
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives) A% O& L8 t6 `2 w* X( Z0 b4 j
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community: Z+ c P9 Y# g b4 r8 t& j
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with1 G! q$ _1 B9 b+ Z! `" I4 V* J5 @

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& [* M- n& p! o, u

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically0 g: f, `. t) f2 g( M# K
diverse backgrounds4 U1 ~5 y; ]7 k4 }8 E

Administrative responsibilities:: `0 D0 t' N- @. d9 b) L9 D# M
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its5 Z7 k( P: X4 Z9 ^, n
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
, s! }+ K+ x& r9 ^8 Edirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the' s+ e+ }/ ?) x7 [# Z% |; L# e
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.) V- a" b9 w) E& N. I* a3 g3 y
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 a1 [% ^6 |* w: M& [

7 V% p9 `) w6 a& U7 CRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board f% h4 x. v$ C! p
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to8 b4 U4 N' b6 M: i/ }* J: Z
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 D h. k* g( ]operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
, }. v+ H) W/ Y5 DThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and6 z6 ~3 t. T9 C( q( g4 a1 O
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
$ ^$ X* Y$ z* }0 k k9 [& A; w4 f6 Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership% }6 T( ]3 ?( s9 A! C F5 w- z
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and* G7 a: t. T4 O3 [/ n
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
0 d: }, A/ n! N% Ndirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- N9 F1 M) P8 i# ystatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all$ r' G w2 ~; {
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of0 k) t' f6 \1 Y7 x/ J
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
