The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
" f$ ~9 M1 ~1 @8 x. `, e- W hRoles and Functions3 a( v7 B2 n8 w
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: A. s1 Y8 G. Y, @organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
# n+ z2 | L* E1 boperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
$ I' F6 K7 W9 e& V/ F8 othe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,# @7 H3 @% w2 c- s* H
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 X. m# A4 Q/ M$ Q7 ~: cboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
: Y4 d H- c7 X- x4 Zconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an/ t1 j* c) p7 _: j% F* ^* ~3 R
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
1 w4 x1 L, G# W$ j3 L* X* hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 v' C+ z' @( p( i9 D( yall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.2 C2 b; r7 w9 y+ r! }- _

Functions and responsibilities:
0 G% `. X A- Y# ~The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:. }. q" k- J9 V0 S5 C$ Y
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
( B+ |5 M/ F' U+ wofficers of the Coalition# ?/ P) S7 D8 |+ h' P" [2 A9 |2 ?
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
- S. A; U! Y! Q/ Q1 Worganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 h3 f* p' a0 A5 Q
and public institutions
, v% m# y8 h2 D, S& l* J1 h* J- @) {3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through" C5 {$ N2 y5 m. y9 U( L
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives" W: b% k4 R8 Y3 _% y2 p* B
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community) O! d! \1 O$ z2 U' ^6 r* P3 \1 @
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

3 Y' m4 y( A1 S: [ r, P5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community) G- W9 i% e1 Q

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic" o% B% a, ?; v0 \2 \3 e- x+ W, C
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
3 @2 e9 i, z( q& P7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working5 m- @6 _$ [* c- H1 t4 m7 @
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

t# k. O( U+ ]3 D; [Administrative responsibilities:
3 I' Q$ x9 d5 F1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 w) E( { p7 {# M- p% V4 iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
0 B% r. Y6 U. {5 t# R0 |" odirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: v$ D1 |. [9 c1 ~; Y4 kmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
Y) j! ?9 H1 q# T& M0 H2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the% P: t) Z; ^5 M9 F* V

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
* F2 \# G4 k( [, \ v7 J' }All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 O! F: W* j+ j! d; [implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- D2 R2 e" q# Ooperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
0 g. |( [4 p5 u# B4 X, z6 @ ^The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' L5 K; b# N4 e( r Y' ]
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should" T5 j- t9 i% _2 i; Z5 o/ H
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! X: d) u# x* j: V8 J
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" v0 x( t8 I! q) { c# `" a: E8 A
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of! r# N8 w3 a' u# F( m
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial: y+ j. f+ O" ]
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all2 F: N5 F, L- g7 ~- ~- Y) ?
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of+ }' f8 I/ t$ Z/ H4 F/ |
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of, g* o/ {5 f% a( F; L5 o

community level

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
