Roles and Functions
$ G' |" B- E& l9 K1 lThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
+ f0 E5 o( h# I4 Borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& ^1 D0 a; l$ Y8 @' Koperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) x$ q$ c( B" {9 O3 y2 K
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' f0 m6 S2 q1 l( K2 g4 \operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
; M t+ ^0 P1 _2 w3 w! o# Iboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is6 t* O; B" P" j2 q1 R0 ?
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an7 X9 |) G8 [8 I, Z% k
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ \7 K5 G; g% J7 d; \2 G9 xstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend3 g. v% w: d0 s; \5 T
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the+ L+ d0 e% B: Q6 l8 k x0 _
officers of the Coalition
/ t* o; o( A% p6 b. h2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
, Z1 v* ]6 A4 \/ H0 Lorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
) u" K) F) y' gand public institutions
. W2 r' g5 Z8 a3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 G6 Y# \2 M: a9 E. Lfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives, I# k( v" C- l
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community# ~7 k2 O& O' v' B4 Y7 @% k
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with8 G" y) e: m j0 q5 \

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

Administrative responsibilities:
! k$ N4 y& k& r! y; ]1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its4 Y- R: K+ ^) {. G) i. |
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of) N7 G! ?0 W, g: H. } X
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the t% V* O# q) f' V c
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
4 N/ P2 u0 Y9 i1 P; N2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the P* ^! c+ c$ V8 z$ O% T

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board6 f+ F) t2 i7 [* H
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' _3 ]5 h$ ^) [' _
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
. j) M4 k( M) Z/ ~2 e$ t a3 Foperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.% E' K. Q _2 Z1 A+ l
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
; u0 `9 ?; u% p. i; ~aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
( _4 L }/ q; u" mbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 J8 R9 t* B0 `* j( i4 x/ Zparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and0 Y- d* u3 U* v+ @" F: `/ a/ r
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of3 Z( X' A$ K3 Q* [9 a
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) L7 t" d+ ^$ O' r" W w8 R( sstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all! U* W# R+ |0 M' J
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
* B: {% `' d4 i/ ~directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

possible extension depending on funding.
