Roles and Functions3 |8 u, X) T- {: A
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; [6 j1 o0 S! E% J/ ]5 }+ Borganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
9 g7 R( |/ K* T( S3 C& Joperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 N' r: l- w4 s ?2 S! Rthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
2 S6 @0 n" |2 }. M: f* Foperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular+ @" V" g6 S! e. G( D9 f
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
$ N5 W, z/ v5 z5 S. \( i2 }conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ q5 R( C: R9 @: Memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
, g* l# ]) d/ s2 q9 dstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
m6 O( k n/ h' Uall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.& X% ~, o+ l( ~# {3 ?' O+ N

Functions and responsibilities:1 s P) k& @7 H0 V9 y; L
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:$ k( J) S" j# U; [, \* z3 q
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( f8 o# H! Q" A1 X$ ^3 K
officers of the Coalition
' u+ s! E+ ?! `7 U) j2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural9 B4 `2 Y" ~% D/ c$ U6 B5 u& I; a y
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, P$ C* [5 U1 @0 C; U* e! f3 a
and public institutions" t2 O) y$ X2 _ s& O5 _
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 @" p) ]$ |: @: v. c' C2 T0 q* B- ?funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives* s" T3 ?& `4 s) w1 z- P, E; u! M
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working( b- p2 S2 _) }
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

+ y* V! y" s+ p# v8 c% v- |Administrative responsibilities:
8 v% L) P, G: P1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
6 }- u1 e5 f& r+ U& L' dregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
- |$ m9 p( G% V3 \& ?directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the4 B& Q( O1 h5 Y ~. Y4 e
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
! @& h5 D$ r" C1 V; C2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

3 F2 ~& A: ?" z) g, IRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board" M6 S9 N7 P5 Q5 k! P
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
7 U2 `3 C# s8 M4 V0 ^4 c' i( vimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating' N2 h/ n. U, S( y3 W' k
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.4 e- W& J) \# u* i6 a
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and0 J a" M; Y5 I+ J" P% Z
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
) ?7 G" f8 @7 ]: ~be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! ] c8 S, k% ~2 o3 d
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" |7 w! j+ a3 K) q
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" [9 V2 `9 e0 R$ P- A
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial" [/ n% W" w' ]# ?
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
3 u% E, F" D3 n* E! Pmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- {2 f8 `" V5 B
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of! k E9 L+ T: c3 p
policies already adopted

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

any related field is desired

community level
