Roles and Functions
4 Q5 i& ]/ T) L; d0 ^The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- P* N3 P2 x2 W1 M% k0 Forganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
W$ K: U& \2 B* Xoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& e5 l4 L5 o' Y/ i
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,) _- j6 X, r. @, F, [/ ~7 @/ W% {
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 O8 t; J4 l1 b6 Bboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
; h' B' t$ l* `& s0 e1 |conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ v& h1 U0 V, x' i7 y; d9 vemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires' f/ x6 g$ P L, H4 E
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
$ n1 S ^ a! D' Uall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
+ d3 L: g4 @$ e. h' k3 a6 o4 i1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the1 M _: g& ?( S, `& x+ m- w/ ?& v0 F
officers of the Coalition( r5 X# a, O: ]) t% I( m* Y
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
4 g3 R; F4 M+ L9 i8 horganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations9 \8 B" ?* @; X5 {* h
and public institutions
* V" U8 k- s3 D, f- Q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through# d: }! ]9 W8 V/ ]5 z
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
- d$ E) s( O2 k' `4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
! w' f5 z1 L J( ]( Corganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

( m7 N4 k# o& H# {0 E) k5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community- d l! R0 V! Y

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:% o6 c! T, Z4 V) E' X
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
* Q# p K% H0 v1 }, Xregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 ~ d$ W# o& `. ?: ~+ S
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
) u4 R( ~: V+ d5 k1 Omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.2 K& x6 S) P5 t U p6 b
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
1 t+ e; I! p: P2 pMulticultural Coalition6 |9 g' b( a: S2 p4 K
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board4 |# B; I, b. ]3 x
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
3 b" A( j- `$ M1 N8 b' H( E, s9 cimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
: Q* h! V. c0 s' O3 E7 yoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.: y0 H7 Y: {' z0 e2 n/ c" A
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and) O0 u! J: c: o. `' ~
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should8 i$ h+ f" p! B Z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
- F5 M5 R* z' A% b$ L5 C& w' Mparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ P i* X# ^" ~1 O) L! w! @' _
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- {/ s( J# j2 E8 k: b8 f. u. z! w
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial% o1 b( l1 J* w ]
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 P* h& x5 K n0 [/ Q( \4 _1 M' Imatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
$ `) C% @4 O. t$ o4 T& ndirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of' D2 s/ `$ `% \4 D ^' n. I7 j$ W
policies already adopted

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
