The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition$ ^- L7 }% Y' E9 v( F# a1 h& K- M
Roles and Functions
7 f9 K) N9 Q: ]& l8 \The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
3 Y5 X0 s% c' m5 @organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the! [1 p7 Z9 u& `8 y, K0 q
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has u: j A; S" R0 R: N6 Z
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
: U8 P0 ]% D3 m: c& `operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular- n( R& u) H+ a n
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is* A6 E, K; A7 X- s5 D, @
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 x" _7 O2 s, ]2 v- p kemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
% @4 o& B. h# V) h1 s; Vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
( X; O! ]) J. a# S! mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.7 o6 m+ y, b$ [4 j

Functions and responsibilities:
) P {) o* H6 h- }& I5 mThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
a5 y- C& o% D" ~5 e' v! S! P" T( w1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
% J: x: D8 K+ y6 g. A: ^) ?officers of the Coalition
8 A3 M% \& t1 M2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
( A; c* [$ x7 Q$ o3 o/ worganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations6 @2 H5 Y7 S. x3 q2 _
and public institutions$ X0 i9 ?1 R, `9 F- G2 R6 q; |
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* A8 s' M3 w. R& a Nfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
; y6 y" d( }: ^ H5 W4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
6 j& r1 h" p& Q* ~, t$ |; uorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with- _- a2 `5 F4 P% r" s

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically/ \( f9 W/ K) E( D, j
diverse backgrounds
) ?3 s: S8 x% i, k$ [+ ?7 i, s4 c: j2 V' _+ I) N. Q( J5 Q8 M
Administrative responsibilities:/ ^, W9 Y4 p2 ^( I7 I) j4 [; v( N# x
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its. g" x7 S! D- A. r l* }
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of# U" T6 m6 o: l% [/ W N
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
7 l, a$ A& c' R$ V' k. g( qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition." ~- L. k; [' f" E3 h* y2 E. {
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the' z+ o' L. D+ g( u
Multicultural Coalition" F% D% H- j2 Z/ B/ i) L& }' L
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board0 P# y; ]# S2 M
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to/ ?9 y3 e2 Q- u2 ]4 B* ?5 }8 @ `
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
0 x d1 c" A+ I: ~" r& L: [. O2 aoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
, K3 Y6 z: v5 ]: B& x" qThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and( ]" ]' P, A, n
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
7 p8 x- _& ?4 Q# b! lbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 q2 @. H5 `+ f. N- e- h8 v/ N
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and0 `! P8 s; C0 N. ?
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of9 n8 `3 Q9 D8 ~- a6 s) i" e5 l q1 W
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 B# M9 Y% i8 N2 D; C* Y* ^statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all4 `, Z9 _/ D- g
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of) Q7 P( A0 n9 B) G# c% X- c
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

any related field is desired

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with' L9 B4 _6 k$ T1 u
possible extension depending on funding.
