Roles and Functions
; O+ I* ]6 S" }, s2 [The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ x+ m$ Z3 \5 Q5 ^7 O2 r( S
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 |! G, r/ N( x' K; W( p9 S
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
+ k( q' ^7 @& a; g% ]the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,$ s8 W! j2 {) m, T3 \6 G" J- s
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: w) f' T' {4 A2 Q( o8 V3 yboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is6 l$ y: B8 \9 I. V4 N+ D% |- u
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
c j' F" K$ U8 T5 Yemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 F! }# h1 j3 z# b' l' _4 e1 |staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
$ x* c7 A9 Q) t1 H4 {' Fall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% L/ Y2 x+ v6 K7 b1 x
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the' \8 g& n' C- Y+ f" j
officers of the Coalition
) l8 Y; h6 K( w- U9 @2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural7 C% [' a! l$ K7 X# }" u- ~# u: L
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations& \4 q2 G; K3 N' b: N- v6 c" T
and public institutions% l& C$ m# ?) A' {" b2 f
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
, k' d. b4 a& }5 o; [funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
2 V" w# X+ Q: W+ s) _5 A4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
" G# ]5 ?7 C9 S; d t* r* eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with6 c$ y* v8 _( W/ L# D

Administrative responsibilities:
0 F8 N& b) O! R' K/ ]1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
9 g" o" ^1 R- ]3 a. K4 p! c8 l# Dregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of/ U+ k( w% N- l9 l
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the" l" W$ N+ `& e" s7 m6 t
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 F" l! [: Y& C7 |/ P: |
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. @, \' P9 y- N8 C1 D

3 L! L% F U$ v2 @/ u: e) p) Z4 _& zRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board' `, I/ Y6 u( e/ J* c8 C! a
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
4 N+ ^) i+ E" b" l Z& X! b& B$ Iimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating; k% R$ Y4 @1 J, T+ i+ \& \
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
: s6 r; m) V9 q0 BThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and+ e" e# c$ r" ]1 P. c
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
9 Z& a1 }/ @' a/ E" r) c% ^ G& fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. g' Y O( E, Z" q y4 uparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
2 k, C2 W( k$ K& Nfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
! s q9 g+ T- q3 g* R/ odirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
$ i9 F8 {9 u) vstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
! m" z# B" e* a8 V/ Qmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( _* Q4 f0 _' \' i4 udirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
" B, m' E: J* z/ Hpolicies already adopted2 M4 Z. j6 f8 L) }* i

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
