9 A _9 o* T7 ?The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
8 x9 [% v8 ~' K: }3 z* hRoles and Functions
- x. U+ ?! z" P- oThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* \( i& v) e" e/ g/ u, N+ Worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
* e! z0 {8 x% [/ d; J6 p5 loperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has' } h$ d, I( W* c
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,! H0 i0 b5 c1 L9 P6 S$ h
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular- l% m" ]4 J Y: s$ V7 Z/ C$ b8 ~. i
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% @1 `% Z3 t7 y, X; e* r9 T
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
9 ^% Y* ?) q- s+ U' X- |employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
) r$ v% x S7 X# Q {& O7 W, J) Hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
2 j n% l: \7 V; |all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
) B7 \* z/ X9 i- X) |( Z4 N( @1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 @( u/ Q5 i( [
officers of the Coalition
+ l* U& l7 g: E, O- n; u2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
" i5 Z9 m7 z* {7 |0 O! t! P- m' Rorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations& ~) R% _+ |/ |: \& g. X& O
and public institutions2 f* Z- p, F/ O9 m0 m
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% e; U, L/ k1 m* Q1 p1 H
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
% }6 f6 p9 X# V, \0 j/ O0 n7 S0 L4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community9 }" ]! r0 L N3 M% u9 ~/ P t
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with* D+ \1 o2 N/ u; k7 f+ G8 s

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

diverse backgrounds

7 N$ J% C- s# h5 J) S, f) _6 JAdministrative responsibilities:
8 u- m7 ]3 Y+ K$ \1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- R$ h& v% z4 N' k; |6 ^
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
% i% v6 K! p8 U$ u* Mdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# [; e K g2 R- M0 j' Qmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
& f3 r: b0 N/ C( a' E2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the7 v/ X$ v" d) W4 D# I2 a; O

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
4 Z$ A$ l: a8 U' f6 FAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to1 ~& F0 J! h* b1 f7 N" v
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating0 N1 _! J- r6 m$ Q
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.: z6 U2 Q7 o* I' F
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and( f9 e6 k4 l. x. D! j( \- |
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should; [* s) [$ H) X3 W2 S9 z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
8 B/ N( }5 r- v0 W$ dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
: Z0 @$ ^6 b8 f. c- x/ Afacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of; x( p @/ Q1 s, v5 k
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
7 \( t4 @) i+ ^statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( l7 b: H9 f/ Y n$ l
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
7 d$ R/ C2 e7 f# W; bdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of2 u' I( f0 [) {2 a& m
policies already adopted* R+ u3 r5 ?- j/ V

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
