The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

! M7 G: \* k0 Z# {% B0 p* cThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* h# {3 D+ u4 g) D+ N6 G, v) Lorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 z! U o8 U, Z; l% _9 S' I6 r
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has6 y5 _! k T3 ]5 d- N) h
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,% @) Y; D/ c" ~ J. ~5 E5 }! a
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular0 N/ Z' {/ R# e' n% x4 {
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is1 `- k$ X( `/ I) Z
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an, `0 n% l2 O! W8 t) h5 J' ?
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires; M, Q( C! c, x! U/ T# M2 z
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend" q+ Z) k" A1 y" p. j) ^
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
; z4 Y5 w6 c; z( L1 q1 ^The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:; i0 }4 Q/ g/ R; R+ R
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" y2 E, j, k8 Q& H6 hofficers of the Coalition
( z1 f5 e6 f+ r5 C5 A- I1 M2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; G3 k4 W& n K4 n
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations5 b: y% q9 n- e% T, c, T
and public institutions
' E3 G7 D) W, ~" y0 T: x3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 g; n8 `. R5 Z$ g( d
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives/ L& V( i i; U2 \( V
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 y! n! h1 w0 W% D$ k9 ^' E
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with) o% [7 y* b" w _; p3 n
these organizations4 J) w( `4 t2 E) c3 p
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic0 L# _8 k: m4 _" K6 G. t

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& m% U9 L* G- _) g3 R$ ?) a% \4 H# p
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 _* i2 w- D* ~" a" H
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
2 E# J2 q0 J4 N* Nmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.( A! w3 h% L. r
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the/ z( }3 y1 q$ i! m1 v

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
7 M0 E2 B: |- ?# YAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to [3 {# d7 @$ D* a7 H. |
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
* Q; d8 z4 r: H: N1 g& N9 n0 Roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
9 c1 q" V- k5 ^% q5 QThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
2 k8 L# i0 W6 R: P+ ], N! [- w- D8 Uaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should5 i& p2 t I7 h1 d' U
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
- L0 @6 V3 r) y" Kparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
0 k+ W% q; I o; x" D4 Q) s+ v6 Ifacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
/ @$ _% A- C8 q6 d8 Ndirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 ?+ _5 V' [' V9 E" Y; X" Astatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 j6 F$ n( d4 Wmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- e* q, }$ ]* k$ J
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
