Roles and Functions
' H3 E- {; D9 f( u7 Q0 P# [The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% y8 d/ [/ p E0 q8 `. eorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 E# ^% f1 q9 `( [. z% v1 aoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
/ V; r4 I; e8 r3 O2 q' m! D! T4 pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress, Y4 f3 O( u* n* K' {# p1 ~( R
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: Y8 W q& @" d! B. R8 o# Yboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is- d; Q( J) j# O- F" B- B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
$ z# Z) b6 W5 [. @2 Yemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
+ n5 \( B$ B& g+ m" Q) Z& @/ P" Zstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend: I( C- X) L* h( m$ P
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.0 o" Q0 l0 I% m2 j& U
2 k* }+ D6 ^9 ^6 r. SFunctions and responsibilities:

' S `; ]9 C+ Y1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the( e4 ?. R+ t' R7 V
officers of the Coalition, n8 {# M% x& ]. L l
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural: w: B; ?5 D$ `$ C, `
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations# F: z8 ^8 p1 |
and public institutions: r8 O% |! y* y8 p6 M
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* V' e p$ S: w# P1 X" Lfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives. i0 m7 }, G& y6 W9 S' I2 ^$ q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community" Q7 n! ~. \5 A
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

Administrative responsibilities:
+ _2 n2 o! }! |4 [0 _1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its$ }; o/ Y2 r& P; J, p
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! n3 H) n0 i- ]
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the/ S4 ^5 f) F& z! o: G+ K. A
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
9 m7 e7 O+ S1 b3 w% a% x0 I2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
! f7 [6 m" l9 k" SMulticultural Coalition
) H# u0 U" O; p! R3 E& C6 yRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
% k& j; {/ G; I9 qAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ t8 n3 S8 @* L6 J* }' w/ b G
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
( U" U3 h# e3 `4 ^; J7 I( |operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
! {% v6 ^( }9 v0 w$ W$ O' gThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and: e/ m6 |" N d/ F) H# c h
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should6 v) m8 G8 t0 H1 L, q1 @# x
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( T) _, f5 p; ^+ j7 b, Rparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
4 o2 \% ?2 \0 `facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& ?: q$ S$ q! `+ _ ~, S, {6 J
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial: e5 @7 F2 y2 v8 ]4 Y- d
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
; ?3 V0 j; v8 e5 f/ ?& Ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
/ y9 u3 x% v" [: b: D& k: {' s4 mdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of% O! a! q2 d+ y2 {+ E& }* b& ]1 A

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding
