The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition) S# v/ d# g' ^- I
Roles and Functions
; v' I+ |1 A4 U3 J! iThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
+ L# ?+ `; x0 [# J5 uorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the5 K: f# w& n! v% S8 J8 t5 W
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
1 P0 X. g7 Y' ~' _% v5 tthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,, W+ s0 W3 K; v- B9 f6 f6 j
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
3 J6 t7 g6 u. U- J0 Bboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is; `4 V: Q8 D5 B Q* H1 R4 N
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! F0 M/ [% P" J$ }employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires3 [" j, C: R4 }4 H: t4 b1 s0 t3 e
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

Functions and responsibilities:. p+ l; l% o& o
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
* k- g& J/ ]: q3 ~1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ ^) E/ W6 i1 h, f" }- d: }* t a
officers of the Coalition/ A" q! d2 ?( M o0 X1 ? B
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ P) U/ P" y4 Q) d6 ]3 |organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations. `* S r5 y O# n8 K- H: g
and public institutions
: `0 A0 P' i1 Y5 T( K9 i) e% P3 c; Y3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through

4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community, p; y7 T s5 F8 |8 D/ a
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6 U2 M% N* C* C0 @6 l7 nAdministrative responsibilities: n9 p# w8 J5 W, H$ x
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
' E6 J; h1 _3 [) P+ uregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of% A- U% Z2 p9 u2 n* x
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
7 N8 u2 Y# h0 _" ^' I$ A5 gmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
" a# }3 m5 J. M `# `2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 B( J. z( x" f7 d
Multicultural Coalition* K, _7 t' P: M$ d9 w: K# t, O K# c
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board& c5 A% K: h0 R9 s3 d
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
. ?2 H0 {3 p. R2 l; uimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating8 M+ _! Y! M, K! O! f. N1 U
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
: s2 ? B9 L8 f0 n& VThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and/ g, w- d4 ?) w( G9 m
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
2 m" ^! V( `- U/ g1 x+ w0 n0 j. m. M$ Obe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership- N. K& v, q3 O- R( y( a- n8 g" x* U
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
! I8 c0 o# p- z3 [facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of y3 `, |: ^" L7 Q
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
. p/ P% O+ ]. a1 r2 b; y4 ^* Cstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 Y- D( i A9 Zmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of) H \# D4 t+ S( U: Y# I/ ? r
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of/ y5 B, [$ D1 a8 _; J/ Q

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and5 A/ S0 K& P& x

Pay Range & Terms
