Roles and Functions
1 _' X; ?# Z) wThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the1 o% m v/ X- @- [* q
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& r6 {% g- d' o9 A0 Koperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
2 q& M0 R; Q1 y' @) M' Athe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 k+ n* p! _8 Z- P& D/ z
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
5 Z$ J; Q9 w t4 {board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
1 V! ?- _% l: b' K. Kconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an" i) v1 @3 D% C [; M" \
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires4 X- J8 K6 l- b' ]: v# M
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# _) d" S; Y( `; |) I! z! {
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
7 e& K/ L6 m1 F' w: p8 J& fThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
* G- \2 Q2 t3 p" ]1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
R! q% n9 Z& t& _officers of the Coalition
$ R8 Z2 z) S0 ^6 g4 r& e5 O8 o3 E2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural7 Y4 @* v. M- S1 ?8 ^! J% e( ~
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations2 Z5 m3 @: S `. V: i7 C1 U
and public institutions9 {$ I8 Y' Q; s3 z& G7 [
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
4 M% z. @1 A; R) ffunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
+ T0 E+ y6 b8 ~, a( G4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community$ d' K7 a3 H5 M& D
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with( C: i9 d5 A; }$ ^0 y9 q

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically( @' \( A4 f" C* j, ^, q

Administrative responsibilities:
' i8 q5 ]3 X" [8 C- Z- ^& g, q; N1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its9 ?; ?4 {% y" E
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
& ~) h, a( m4 c: Q1 p! a6 Adirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! C$ b W" m( L1 ~$ e
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
0 a% f6 p8 g2 U/ A9 N2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the7 y) r& h4 R N
Multicultural Coalition
. `, V# p6 ]! @Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board o4 o: ~$ d }% d
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
; N; x# f- V9 d: vimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating* @! z/ W9 w& R: k& I7 M
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; u8 h ]4 A7 ~4 {9 P' S2 j" L
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
& o p/ M% n+ ~5 E: G! ^aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
o, U: J8 c+ n3 dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership1 Y. b2 F3 J0 `# g" B3 u
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and) P7 g" X' a, u8 r2 T& M
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
7 C! s f+ ^3 F4 t3 kdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial7 O$ B, Y. S+ P& e4 Q5 m o3 M& a
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all' C( t: d1 C' w" P% m/ T: d y6 v
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
# C0 F, M9 t. z6 D* C3 Z bdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of* @* @1 G. {3 L
policies already adopted" @0 V3 V M3 O

Pay Range & Terms

possible extension depending on funding.
