Roles and Functions
, a, ?* s: X7 HThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: E$ [' Z, V+ s* g3 Y# g0 y# torganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the( d+ D2 n0 \1 s: ?$ H% z% c" K
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
$ [# s/ m- w {1 n9 N' g( y; bthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,$ [7 s- ^5 Y0 V. I6 ^
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular e% O, T f, Y' p: g2 N
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
y% b8 D6 D6 S1 } Iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an3 Q6 [7 t* ]3 ~2 ]
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
" z) U! e- ]0 @6 F: \: U5 \staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend+ E! m7 `. s$ O7 G% J5 E- Q
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.1 r+ o3 p: o8 U) Z/ x

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:$ Q f q6 O9 D8 e
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ r' r1 A) G8 r$ j9 @* [4 { ]# E% d
officers of the Coalition
. K' M6 G. C+ V2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
1 B/ b" V- z( i0 H) a5 A* Y# |organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
2 p6 x! n* x- R3 G8 J! @9 hand public institutions- p1 s2 V1 h1 [6 E7 X+ d
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through' G0 f6 K+ r6 S, N
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
6 l4 L) `9 n: R+ V, K4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
& S& |1 e1 u( [) R! I( I7 a8 ^' Yorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with3 }+ \) w' J. A* R- `. c7 S

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community7 P( g3 p! V6 P6 }& X, y

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7 W2 d" j/ L/ ^. lAdministrative responsibilities:
+ {4 ]5 _8 p6 w0 A" W1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its q6 C9 ^, m) q3 K( d
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
1 z& b$ h0 f. l/ Kdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
. |3 r/ L, k0 C! B3 r2 N, X* umembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 m+ U6 D0 ?3 \3 Z9 c4 n1 J& f
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 y3 q q# ^1 V4 _& S! V" z

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
( Z1 E7 ?& I3 L# }( }All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: @2 u* O" r, Y1 t- P+ cimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating) C8 _8 _2 Z6 Z" L& b9 b* M+ x
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
% n0 P {8 x# g; g$ B o4 a) e3 L: RThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
% Q2 |, a: u; J( _! K3 K$ raims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
& {, c9 W' \8 }8 H: Rbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
1 V' ]8 `: z* v% D# z" _participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
6 c+ Z7 K2 D! Q& D; m5 e- c+ {7 ffacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
( f6 _) _* s+ H5 fdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial4 ]! [: J4 S7 y
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all* G& _0 R4 s: ]6 a$ C; W
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of5 B6 `: N5 ~- j9 G. ?' Z" G
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
