Roles and Functions0 g5 ~7 ]2 M7 J: |
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
9 u0 X* w- E: U8 j# S# D, w7 ^+ ^organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
6 l& |0 R# n1 `1 U6 _7 Joperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 t8 H m' K9 Q z$ C. }the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 y8 S3 O. B+ H! E3 qoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
9 D2 {' v) ?3 k) u$ q" Dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
2 N- p" P. v3 J2 n& b/ Aconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
9 [. D2 N2 t- Q9 `; o4 Xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
+ u1 K& S+ ]) X; astaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! o- F" @1 A3 Q% m$ I# ?0 ~& O5 X* xall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.( Z% k: x1 O, P

Functions and responsibilities:" K1 h/ q ^3 |- h- d: t# P
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
; W# z; g$ p O/ Q0 W* L* g1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
- Y/ i: S, e* h: S8 Gofficers of the Coalition
$ Y4 m# d) P) a, }8 q) a2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural0 Q# p. o+ Y) p. k, z ]
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations) O" ~6 N) |* ~0 u( @
and public institutions
/ z( v' }7 U: E3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through) L2 u+ L0 j$ ^. H9 c
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; }, R+ G6 p6 ?0 {& O
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 k& u. M5 A& j, s1 U' N& E t6 Qorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. i! W) C# F7 ^6 I' [* g

$ n# V6 d, a" j7 Cwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically# S u7 V! Z4 H5 d( g7 i& q; ]
diverse backgrounds+ ]6 W+ ~/ ~9 V/ v0 D% y" Y( n
a* L3 I% t" X. HAdministrative responsibilities:
! k( b$ w/ c* z: ?5 U6 n1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its u+ q7 }- H: ?( K! A% ~ T# V
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of( W r* t! }! U2 C
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the/ H% X7 P4 u6 D8 ], _1 V& I: o0 @3 U: `
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
& ?% O0 Q2 _, w9 B8 ~4 W& A$ C2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the0 P9 v- ?% F5 Y

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
. i- {9 N. U' m0 J% m6 m3 q$ {4 R* _% SAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to' s; l( X: b5 l) u: e
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
8 B9 l' ^+ U6 x0 ?5 Hoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
- H, `+ Q. y+ R% E" H5 ~: @" EThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and1 c# ]! j# o# u7 l7 j3 q
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) S* x/ b0 X3 X3 J
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
; N; D0 t! K3 N6 Gparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
4 R( d/ F3 Y7 O- t6 lfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
: W1 C2 I3 M. fdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
5 ^$ g. x5 \" t5 @' pstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all! Q5 U" W# m, `% N8 |) Z
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* i; ?* s! `9 f- Z- w
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
