The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
+ L/ c5 K+ v4 M- o# b! q% B% yRoles and Functions
+ @! R C5 R% g4 oThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the7 ]: b0 W7 J0 G6 `/ J7 `6 j" [
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 s( Y/ X% W( K, ~. Voperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 z9 L. V) z! c* U; l4 f8 Uthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
1 ?3 Q" t( L! Y. woperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular- O! |% @ u7 c0 H' W
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is ^" i5 ?" z# E. h' s
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! J0 v: i) ?& \3 W7 Q# A. \% C
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 y+ G; j4 n- [7 D- B7 d1 Y4 _
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend4 H' e0 V ?( f1 p' u- ^' E
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

, Y0 q! Y- i% Z% }9 b% b1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
; f5 F1 d9 v4 z* b% E! _officers of the Coalition4 s; z1 p6 g. L8 H- \ W
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
6 {4 }) z( {8 S- s; A8 _; _2 x2 ~organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 r( W3 d7 L y. @3 kand public institutions
; l7 F. Q! g0 W( c, r# E8 z3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& n* x! v, S5 p; ^) kfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives6 ~' C. @( v5 Z# w
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community, P+ C2 j0 k R1 K; X
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with! m0 `) `$ x/ m* A" s Y3 x- x4 v. J0 D

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

. k" c9 W, t- E- MAdministrative responsibilities:
2 X; s* Q4 _0 }, ?4 _1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its$ A6 d& K& T7 `0 g1 A% }: x' i
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
5 N0 T! h6 g2 M" ~6 G: Sdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
& ~9 V! m5 A5 y8 S1 fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
8 Y+ W5 k( ~; T6 X: l( Y! l2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the& ?1 V3 f$ Y. Y. j

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board0 C' ?: f. [! a/ \2 g1 V
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
7 r" e0 @ O. [: j( |. o/ Q2 C/ zimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
& J- p' w" h, a3 poperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
1 k0 [3 T- `. i, B( a b( @9 l6 pThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ K; ]# L9 T+ jaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
5 Q& p9 S7 p) R+ pbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 M$ g+ U: i: T0 f3 `2 Gparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
0 w4 g4 O& N' R0 [- u+ _facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of8 [# t$ f- v8 F2 A
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
' k, Y& Z. `: P7 b7 @# D, }# s Gstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all- d0 ^% M0 {& q5 t5 B, W
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of. S6 n, C1 `8 y. V6 P1 `. R7 o
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of" y$ @! _: Y$ H3 O' s

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding
