The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
% v. o1 D( S2 j8 q- PRoles and Functions
! ~7 y" J" `$ W! ]8 D& KThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ s Z( g% B: |! y3 ?( ^6 v( x& Oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the) o! I y- A# }: o* }
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
; w3 u- r, |: e( l9 s0 F; ]the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
3 i/ c, V' e- R& Uoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular$ ?0 |6 l8 W5 f0 {8 v
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' C! L- l8 z; }% [$ B0 N# s y
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an% X# o7 C" d+ d: ~, m
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires8 z& r6 Q: \6 x5 ^7 R5 D
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# e4 o4 k" `9 h" ^; `( o: ^8 e3 xall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.$ E; G$ H! m) R( u/ G' p8 C8 i
/ @6 ~& C$ O# ^( iFunctions and responsibilities:
1 F* U# M. y' C$ M+ [+ d2 DThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:. E2 {, [ Z) g, m9 A! U- W7 t, _
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
+ d: g1 C+ n* a, `2 K: m9 oofficers of the Coalition
+ p6 X# a' F; ^9 u: O7 D5 b) Y2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural( H- f, `( n3 F; i0 a4 z8 i
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
8 X! y5 e9 G) eand public institutions4 H( H4 m9 `! C1 V( v: f
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 Y- f8 k/ a' n5 @5 ?funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 W! W# z. X1 l6 K
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 b1 q8 A2 k* Z. \7 x% M2 X+ H
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
* w8 V, N1 Y6 B7 c- R i; sthese organizations

leaders

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
. v* {; Q" R1 y8 W, u% O7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working4 a0 `# [1 C$ G. K7 n
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:) R1 O! Z' p( K+ ?7 q/ C
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its+ ?( O8 u0 B! P8 b# G6 d
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of' q% ~2 i3 k: s0 c k
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the+ w2 }1 `" U* c; o) m% U
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ j( x- N' b* G- j( a- h2 ~
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
+ R& w) F( u, C! [: MMulticultural Coalition. {7 M: E# M1 o+ x+ k& g# [+ V
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
9 T- e" L/ C8 J9 k0 `All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
5 a; l: `$ q6 }implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
/ w; R8 l5 m3 Q' eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.$ A7 [; G P1 V, D; X/ {; ^
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, u7 U& t; J# R$ p8 k
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
& t- r& d% }% M: i9 k4 pbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! t$ D) p# e0 m' P7 a
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and, S- @4 G/ `+ B; y& Y" S
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 o. F9 ~ E0 S3 E, ? adirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial( P8 X0 N8 Z" @0 _
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all+ K# r: L) g0 m4 m2 F! P2 ^
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- x0 P& N5 S7 n$ f# E; r7 Qdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of! P# Z5 k+ P+ a8 W5 x0 n% E. x% d4 J
policies already adopted

community level

Pay Range & Terms7 v* u; P+ r n' [
This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
