The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the$ f# ~# I1 i' B |3 w8 P) ?; v
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the# V( S* x5 O( ~0 j' s
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has2 o/ e$ q0 n: B' @2 h
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
+ W0 J- N8 H) k: K0 W0 N1 aoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular6 m( @/ R& H u+ t: k/ x! U% K
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% d$ u/ Q7 @" c- X+ D* ?# Yconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
; z* H2 }9 M' S# I; [5 l! Zemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 f3 W/ k- w8 w# U2 p0 m9 E
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend* q2 U/ }8 U1 P6 U& h- ]% P
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

7 n+ r2 V" O, X2 ^; E1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
9 ]6 k% Q- p" s5 X4 s8 M4 tofficers of the Coalition5 U( \+ o. K: X; X8 m3 C
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
4 `# ?9 b2 N; K; i( g6 Korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations# o6 ~+ \, \. S }
and public institutions4 r# h- o( M8 W# D& G# ^- T
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 ?$ G# m! ]' F! V* a: r: Jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
* E' E) T+ w5 V, A! w0 a4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community' C' m/ ^- f+ Z* Z. G; k
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with v1 H6 q- r+ w+ k; n% r) @, f8 s5 n

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community$ ?) j# d% x8 m3 c
leaders

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society% m1 V4 S% d( ]! P
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
' C3 q, C/ E8 f8 S2 z* L; Vwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

, `* e) m [8 Z5 x1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its+ q! ?, t5 u% ]1 B. Q* r! l7 }5 e
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 W0 H1 i4 Y" ^5 \directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
& c6 Y! i! |0 Y6 smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.$ u6 W9 ]8 l& B
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# H$ ^& `! D; c( l2 M

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
' n6 i1 h7 Q# f! W) P; Wimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating9 h7 K: ]2 f- p3 |8 i" |! M p8 H
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.% P$ M& a2 C: L6 ]; j. m
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and8 ?+ }- a7 n" } b2 b; w
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' n6 k! u2 l( M. O' zbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership5 C) h* c c8 s& }' D* ]
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and8 g$ T7 X2 s) o2 b6 u- `
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of' `; n$ Z9 x9 n0 W; O! e$ j
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial% w7 O0 i& L3 ~) y" K. z
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
! h6 c8 Y: e9 ?4 z8 b) F1 C# nmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 c% W, c* W, X
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of) k9 I6 S" [- U: @
