( u! k1 R" m$ gThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
* @0 a% t" A% uRoles and Functions
$ j' W" ~6 W/ ~, eThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- o6 }- g' s8 G+ ?# v) Q) U7 h; Torganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the6 C% M/ \ x6 ~) ~2 I/ n5 V
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has/ F; X8 b& N6 [1 C3 A9 O1 I
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress, L, w$ C& y0 T- O
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
4 {+ N3 C- @" A7 B, rboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is, b+ l. ?7 a& P
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an* N6 F6 C+ o, a2 A
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
O1 E W- D: F. ]$ G" l' Ystaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the/ A8 Y( X0 I. P) o0 d+ K8 p
officers of the Coalition2 Y3 l* P) j$ l0 ?0 X9 B% O( R
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
& |, G7 K! F8 ?organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations/ Z J3 Z! S% d% q2 O
and public institutions; b: T) V4 X, {9 f% m
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
v/ n2 T9 n% C- E/ C# Jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
9 `4 I1 r0 V7 O$ y5 g: b0 l4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
{" o. ?8 C( ]" t5 korganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:
& a# J7 D9 \6 w9 T# k2 }1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its( I" U- q* V+ d; ^8 p
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
: D* s/ S g; ?2 q- y- p5 Zdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
/ m4 i# A# e* ^" `. e6 tmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
- m+ ?/ H* N3 H8 B- h2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
5 C& R/ s) y1 _4 K6 ~& zMulticultural Coalition- n% S& Q: c4 m+ t/ G1 L
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
\+ j8 \0 F) ~2 ~3 ~! h8 KAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to0 k" s z: _7 L
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 b' E" S! d( r2 C- u4 j
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.6 L# l6 T' q8 m X# q1 G; @
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
. A# ~/ B. \" t) \9 s T) F' i0 b& Z6 oaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
) v- w& }$ B% N4 Qbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
" }% x7 d% J1 V% Hparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
! W) |! |& B1 z+ p. g5 rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
, e# z* B3 r! H0 X3 X c: b# u* vdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
b" w$ @ |5 Z! Wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
7 h# u1 c E8 M* h) w& ~matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
0 `4 t* Z1 Q; Xdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
