The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition5 Q" Y! r8 l" ]) {) J! L
Roles and Functions( C' \0 x; v6 F
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
9 h0 F: |% g3 B2 |4 V% Uorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
8 b4 J2 O w) {* A0 hoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has, U7 B9 m+ e$ o
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,: _( v9 _, Z3 s. ]/ R5 [( j% V2 Q
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular3 X0 J4 v# U# |4 Z" x8 Q% d
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is( [( `: ^0 Y3 F6 P# z+ B% u) h* v
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an4 p1 I% S" e$ r# [5 a& r
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
, C) K; @/ H( Q8 F7 |staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend! n7 p, O3 [4 P( j! F5 }# ?
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:. t L. M, v$ k/ \0 A
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
+ g' }8 Y3 U' P/ b( ^0 c' @officers of the Coalition
+ h8 _5 a6 `: C# S3 X& i8 R2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural" s; X/ Z& b+ o% C. [, S
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, }: J8 \% [! E* @4 I
and public institutions
0 V ?, F& ]+ P+ s$ o m n4 A9 q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through: w/ Q9 K/ l( g- o( E2 p; v" H
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
0 y9 H3 E# A' |" O4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 L2 O% P1 F! B. R/ M. z6 qorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with @9 q7 z5 v$ v$ ~1 [5 o4 ^9 Q

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:
* Y( |% Q& a8 k) z* f* H- u1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its3 E2 B0 @' R5 i4 C
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
2 [9 \4 [3 J( E, W3 _" }0 gdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the' N3 c3 O+ |2 y/ W O$ Q# M
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 w: i8 J& S' _! ?6 P- X2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the- U2 \- w* T! h1 z

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board% F8 X/ u4 z( ~9 k+ i
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
2 G2 G1 S* ]$ L2 vimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
( B+ k2 ^ O' [4 m2 B) r+ S' E( soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; c, z' l9 N7 ]% }
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and: L. i7 A/ v0 L5 k z( C3 u
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- R- t% @+ I* x9 ]& Dbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership o6 L/ ?$ v8 ^% ^
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and, D9 h4 a1 ?" A* L8 u, l+ H
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" h* M2 E' o9 f1 T$ x! `. i
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial9 b0 X6 J' o! F1 U
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all. I- r2 R% C- [
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of5 l5 v2 W2 q% |; e
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
( n$ q; ]; I. g: I! e1 p+ Jpolicies already adopted

community level
