The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
% E. I( d! B6 a. d+ G8 S# lRoles and Functions6 x7 y+ P9 a0 k6 c x O
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: X* \3 g9 D/ T. O7 X) Jorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* V5 J) i h$ `' c
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
% `. V/ y3 k5 h/ n# v# Mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 X: e% X7 a. R" K
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular, f* D3 S7 r4 }% C
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
) J1 z$ W, f; X: Y( g1 Tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
& G$ Y* M) p* |! gemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires, g5 }) y' Y- z5 ]' r
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
5 z, p8 y0 G. L u7 h$ ?' iall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.# @, V' [8 Z, I
) w: \$ U% A9 d& j/ OFunctions and responsibilities:
6 Z: Z: F6 O" I3 G2 \! A0 JThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:2 ?0 U4 s- l; X& P8 Z
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
: H$ s5 F0 u& uofficers of the Coalition
/ @: H1 _$ e! K. f" g* M# J% b; _2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural- r% E4 l* g4 }( I7 |
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations* H; `6 e, f) l4 `/ h- n
and public institutions: Z5 ]: B2 O' d/ \2 Y
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
% s$ \- l6 B1 d0 i3 Yfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
; W/ b9 J4 P% e2 b3 c4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
g [+ F r- ^organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with$ o( r" M( h c+ R4 `" m
these organizations; W3 r6 Q+ k |! n9 q
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community
% v* d: A3 y/ H) L# b$ k, _leaders; n- P, j d# ?; s3 X
6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic7 S) D: Y" _3 t6 t c
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society9 S; s. K& ]: F
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
: H1 g* j$ K V; iwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically9 }" p1 i2 c6 q) e/ O1 E. S8 [5 m
diverse backgrounds* P& `. q! A+ L. z2 T! A
1 M) q# j7 }9 [( ?2 n7 a5 T; O# Y0 QAdministrative responsibilities:' C/ X0 I' ]. z+ V5 q
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
1 T2 b) D, Q* D& Aregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 Q- j. P9 Q: h
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* U' ?- o3 _/ c! ?" K3 \! u' m% z
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.. G- E" n( ]" I" ~6 a$ `, x, H7 H
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
4 c! q D% c ? ]6 q! BMulticultural Coalition" L: c$ O+ Q+ M# X) h
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board' ^, Q/ w2 G$ Y3 } e% s
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to3 |; A0 U# L2 V
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating6 I0 ^. W1 R( i8 f) @4 j4 v
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility." {/ S7 A C& K, z- j0 |
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
8 S1 F/ W8 n3 _. I+ n' `& maims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should+ I0 ]$ }# @8 ?+ K: q4 v3 {) m; Y
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership/ K4 N7 P9 V2 |+ Q0 B
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 d! H" U! R" l
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of9 N! X. {0 `' l; h) X
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
J( c0 m0 T/ ]9 D" [statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
X6 [4 n$ o- g9 _( R( b& Wmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
# H! ]% o4 }3 B. i: L" Fdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of5 J1 h& a' X7 D+ F, s
policies already adopted& E* j# e' k3 h3 I, n

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

community level

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
