Roles and Functions4 q% h8 g$ e/ o n
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 l4 Q6 [4 t+ _9 K# h* d' P$ horganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the% j$ S# q4 v: l* a% I# H
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& ~# d/ E" n/ Y2 F+ {% p
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
4 k1 ]' H2 h( K1 roperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular2 y$ v( N# Z! U; T, {
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is# f8 H) n& a8 j. p
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! C" L$ ~) N& H4 Eemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
i9 \; \7 |* T9 A& w/ astaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% I) h3 j& a% B5 B! _( _all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.8 m- e% o/ l* }* J1 o. R

4 y3 n( N. t. k: ?/ A1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the7 V# k c1 J/ K$ E: y0 x6 G1 _
officers of the Coalition
! H: M5 U3 ^9 Z ^* s8 t2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 {5 l R! `7 ~+ o4 ]. r
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 S5 y; M N1 h1 ^
and public institutions% u8 t0 I3 _1 G* v! m1 O# l1 H
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
; t' `- p& }. J" p& E" { u+ Mfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives. G _1 y6 i3 g% H' Q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
+ B8 V* F( _, q/ a! l7 w6 ? @: w0 ]organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
+ J& H( }5 Y/ T4 bthese organizations
H$ n& h2 ]7 [! |# u9 J- i5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

Administrative responsibilities:. l- f% p" t5 W+ h' ]* B: N5 |9 o
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its; e/ b: A0 S( v% f2 C }
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of( C, v( m, L. T1 u
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: G6 H0 f0 ?8 d+ m( j0 Rmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition., s/ R+ l$ d l
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the: J9 F+ ^$ P8 b4 _5 i

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board _' r2 C% H6 l: ?
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to u; A1 K' Y& k# ]8 }: Y
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating. x2 ^' M# A6 a+ a" F
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.5 q7 A( l5 B1 A7 _) `! {: p9 D: j: j
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
$ H4 v6 Z0 G# z9 {7 e, Iaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should/ U [3 i3 K% N3 a8 U
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 w9 v. f4 e1 `3 o$ Dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and0 ^# }# D4 k. r" k9 `; y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of6 }* E! o! M* F
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 w& I# k- s3 C4 P/ G4 cstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
! R9 B# v9 F; ^- [+ w c! X4 n' Bmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of! T2 F2 p- K7 y4 r* j' f
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation( a* a* b# l+ G+ J7 D# V
for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee/ g' K0 [' \% @9 _4 @1 b, R

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles8 I, B) U! X' _) p
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

any related field is desired

community level

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
