The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
* p' ^) q/ U5 B9 Y7 xRoles and Functions
1 U @- \; d) R9 j+ T9 F/ `' G/ VThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
& C0 ^) `( J& M/ O' L4 Q9 corganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 u/ K* V0 ^. |/ k7 k7 x
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
) X6 K! R3 r# g: Bthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 u. y4 R' P- R6 ^" \" s
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular( ^* T1 Q# A$ B$ ] E
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
* K# J# M- k$ K, q/ _+ tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! Z/ c$ a- k; r% oemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires, u) c0 |2 u( \! q0 e, K3 l) U9 R
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
2 c0 Q. p6 q& C) ]! J' C5 wall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
5 L$ z: D" c; h2 [0 m/ k" ~* D3 }0 vThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:- F& K. t# R' e; ]
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the+ z6 S' H& S) K5 i. |; |- W
officers of the Coalition
! {, A4 X& G0 ^$ F0 z. B2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
1 n E, D# z$ B" {+ O% ]organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
# { a# `, O- _6 Nand public institutions
, u4 n7 ^% u0 B+ C( n8 \3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through: G3 s, [5 _5 Y4 f" x; D3 ~4 \
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
3 w! V- O" R' R. g6 }4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. Q* P4 Q5 d6 G. j4 N0 Rorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
4 ]' ]9 b$ Y: ?! Y, qwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

5 {# S+ i& m% [) |+ k# DAdministrative responsibilities:: g; c2 T8 J. O0 d* h# _% X f( b
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 [3 k& i6 t$ |0 v5 _regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of* `+ f* y5 ?* f, P
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
; p7 e( ~5 M+ o' i% S+ D$ B4 m. jmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.* a! J/ \; T' f0 k" C" u- A
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 B6 k1 ^) I5 o, @1 G' B g

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board; h3 {$ B& x, s! W- a
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
% h1 y4 E* t0 E0 p" W/ p3 limplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating& K1 s9 L. N' j7 \ z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility./ R! s; i$ I: s
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and- M. q! U; K5 [$ W2 _2 F! u
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) E! [$ a+ X4 X. [
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership F0 K/ P% [1 m7 K
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and5 {: I% }' t1 C! L4 \
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: V) m6 g* p9 ^+ U s
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial6 }3 H( k$ V$ j. W
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
2 F0 J+ \# e& ~1 `2 H( j7 mmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
: U1 g8 B6 }! M) D1 Rdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
