The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
/ C5 ^! u" W% w: x1 DRoles and Functions" x, n( U2 d' h& U
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ D6 ~# @3 Y- Y/ V) |4 h8 C0 D
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
# j; b2 ^% P0 Q1 {3 i' G, Xoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has! G% a: E: v( R) T! }
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress, z+ r3 M- v5 i k6 {
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 _" J9 T4 m, q# ^9 m
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
3 z% ~4 T* H$ Z- Bconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
}5 v: W5 R2 L: M+ I7 m7 demployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
; Z& k& T1 E# h) qstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
$ ?1 L2 I% i& A. F# qall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
4 x8 p7 I- c* k& SThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
- b% T: k% w4 B) u$ M5 R1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the3 ]" o: a$ {* |9 l
officers of the Coalition
2 j/ |2 [: E8 {! `2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% ~. M* ^5 H0 L- h. q$ G( ^8 ?
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations' M$ W; M7 K! i: ~
and public institutions) ~- Q5 d! G4 d3 h0 [( H
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through; ~* j1 e1 ^1 v
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives) H9 Q' N" d3 Y8 C
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community! w1 y4 t0 J& X* Z) h
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working: Y/ R5 {: R8 t1 h& w! T
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically9 \& H; Z# R* Q0 |5 w' d, _4 }

Administrative responsibilities:
5 x5 {) H/ v: o: ~2 a O9 }1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its \+ m0 ^4 |: U- S- c
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of H4 [& l8 _- W0 v0 H" ]4 e0 t% Q
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
3 s* k! [/ y& B8 w9 u4 Q3 J% }. n0 zmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.' O" ^% `: H r" d, ]
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 l; H7 @7 m) [5 E% |9 _9 R

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
2 h+ [: w( `+ h2 L; JAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to9 N$ G8 ~$ r' S E
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" }2 a$ R4 R$ w' r- Coperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
! Z8 [2 x+ C/ B. K( J* VThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and$ d3 ~) p8 y: f8 t8 M9 C+ B
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
( @9 i$ y7 ^+ f* hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
) ]+ I4 V$ d2 r6 Z% \+ Xparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and3 k* u' p' X; e
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of) T. I( u# ^- J m
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial: O$ C$ c7 Z- P0 ^9 G
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
/ \" t. q* h8 R/ Z i5 H# e' {; y$ }+ Gmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" A; }' R8 s: }2 j0 T
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of" v5 i9 i) r; w8 M; b9 h. C" {
policies already adopted

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
