Roles and Functions5 A/ p+ d5 ^& }* B/ ?- o
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
/ w4 m7 i8 t3 ~) \( Zorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
" y. [; Y0 j# m! Q/ a9 J% soperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has7 y6 y3 ?1 k2 Q1 b
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, v1 Z/ I. t0 }6 Doperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular/ x7 N, U$ G% X
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is( t' Z6 H* I5 a0 e U* w+ p& e
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
0 }* O9 y: f' Memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires |# a1 @* j* b; ^$ k
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
9 F% i9 [* k$ i- }all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:+ _$ t9 Z, ^" Z2 w
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
6 o! a' V6 B: L1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the% k( ^$ Q! m+ @+ h% b0 F
officers of the Coalition
6 C9 l4 t; P0 x1 [2 V" J2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural' h- y3 {" p! m- g' A6 e
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations% P. F9 b7 v3 o( P) c+ \& c
and public institutions- F; S; |8 g7 J: @
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 Y2 L- I; L9 `. L; T
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives& t" g9 _% K& C4 u$ u* O
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
f, y& y/ Z7 P7 j0 |& korganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with# k" ^" t2 x0 D0 X# E
these organizations
t. R3 q+ j' V* C P# I5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community) f& ?% G- k7 F
leaders, w; d3 O+ }3 ^
6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic8 c9 S2 I6 K# M) H8 o
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

9 ~# A# @; w# R p Cwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

9 G+ _9 K$ H( C0 sAdministrative responsibilities:9 i* Y- p2 B1 N% g- B. O! x' u
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its8 q% B( H% r' u- L4 Z" c' j
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
) ~- \, ^' O8 k; Ydirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the* k r" F9 n, _/ F" B
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
; x) t& f7 c/ c; @2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the* e+ _1 q1 X" e

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board/ A! p- e# y! p' V* Y9 F; ~$ J1 ?$ l
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
$ y g) _. R4 \( k# ^implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
0 P# e7 g D% Yoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.. A$ b W* e3 @' ]# \
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
9 t! O- S* P$ d2 g/ d4 b4 U, Laims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should3 B+ z/ N1 W! x8 z8 Y9 @
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# r& T$ V- V( w3 N5 {5 v% P
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
- W: @ i) {' i, l& x Z: d7 Ffacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of1 N; y |4 y3 F) u+ t
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial0 r% T; j/ v1 a# i) J* O
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all! {; O$ e% m7 c" t) Q1 n5 W$ {1 T8 F7 S
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- V/ o& \8 n( L' ? r
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding; r' e1 O8 n. P( d1 v+ `4 u

Pay Range & Terms
* @; R- o' E# v% n4 d; j' sThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with1 z u8 Y# }( I$ X( p3 l w

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
