" x9 T) O3 K6 X& _+ d YRoles and Functions
# h7 n2 ?+ K8 _6 mThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the( F' g' S; |6 z& @" j! I5 T# J/ A
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the& D) v$ C2 G% Z+ k% F9 \- k. h. c! R
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has7 O v `; F9 V/ e" [& |! d
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,5 g, k0 T1 c) B! b1 F
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& v4 f. c9 l0 `8 E" p- T9 x
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is5 {0 F% d# s6 V! r% m
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an& n& |) x- v# k, x& k2 o
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
' p/ u, Z4 F% W5 U& o7 n+ qstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# p+ a `3 U. {8 u i& B* a5 Zall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

( k/ [0 t0 _4 F9 ^6 `4 f3 |) {2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
2 Y- v1 J- G" h1 Oorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations% v S0 G% r2 O' F
and public institutions5 Y, E# \$ v+ G& d6 c9 H
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through9 C- |' b; L. N8 O! b# v; u! [: _' A
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives9 m) f4 k$ ~* d; Q7 H
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community! K# O: }8 `1 M3 X9 e- t1 [4 B
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with7 O- K6 ]8 b( u7 `6 j

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its; \& R3 d: J M1 }& z
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
) Z }; B' H- s$ |' i% W. Qdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
- S. \4 g4 t& A0 v) C- N* ^members of the Coalition’s financial condition.1 O2 z; u6 f: G8 c$ n
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

9 L7 h+ z5 |7 [7 o LRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
! c4 Q* P: O8 ^All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
. N% Y, H% s4 Rimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
; G1 @1 Z6 B/ y0 Joperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
. Z2 W# o( u9 o- E( I( T: r6 YThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ R4 S6 J5 O' v% z0 c* `) _, s- faims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: s; { t. x+ ~0 }- ebe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 ^% J% n( ?; I. y9 r1 M
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 B: |8 r" \/ d1 @3 x; }- B
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of

statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
