2 M/ @6 j2 Z: qThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
' H, ~3 V" j/ l R, v% u7 BRoles and Functions
3 ~0 x' A6 h8 R5 p: P4 uThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the( l, s7 Y7 T5 w8 O( L$ M1 J
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the+ C; R! q& }+ X1 C1 i6 \
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has5 b9 ]. T" k# y: @7 U
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
0 z/ ]* a% l. Ioperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
3 ^! X( G( p" Zboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
1 R7 H' ^* D5 F# [* o1 E3 {7 iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
5 T; U* J! o8 l. d9 C7 z$ Gemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires# a# x7 a" L& ]8 `! E2 i- a# ?
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend/ v4 @- W$ E3 w) q
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:( ?4 [4 g6 n2 w! {& W
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
* i1 x. d4 Q2 b k- @officers of the Coalition
$ j+ h7 R8 k9 r( Z2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural/ K5 q& N9 e- c0 O0 U; c! X
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 D9 [/ S7 y6 ~( m J( ^+ F
and public institutions7 K6 F% [4 l: m9 N: Z }
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through9 h9 Q1 m- `7 ]: J1 v3 J
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives* F1 \- x; |7 ~5 m) E& A
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community: d8 t" g; W* r/ X' p$ d
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with; f- m1 m" h5 f& ^2 o( N. K, l

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
# i; d4 y4 X4 s0 jwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically! N1 ^+ j/ N6 t) d2 z; A
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:& M/ G8 j5 p: c9 N$ Q9 V
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
/ ~2 g! j" L6 {" t3 k$ vregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
& N) G2 {! \' z, E8 T1 Ndirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ e5 {* C" ^1 v) }) @; y( [7 xmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
% N$ N1 t% X- R: c8 z2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 y0 a1 _/ j8 G% x0 |# Z

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
2 |0 d- C: B# i* [All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
* f( n% i0 ?1 i% d+ [, rimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) ]0 a9 m9 V) w: t; \operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
4 c5 c9 Z: s6 m: _' WThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
6 R% h1 j. ^3 u. Kaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
; M) q# b* k q" ]be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# c# h) T& X& m, I
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and) p( n: g5 b0 E
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of% J' s2 v* T7 ~9 N# J
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial2 u% @% s7 l* f5 k
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 z% m n; V' J: r" j9 dmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of; R2 i9 j, t. Y0 C3 ~
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of! R2 j% \. Z6 C
policies already adopted
