Roles and Functions
- s( Q8 l6 V/ f8 F! YThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the3 `* R, d* d- X
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the: _9 x. l) b$ n2 c c1 M9 `7 `
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has" O4 d6 y) @8 E. r; S
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,; ]5 l" V. M. w
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular% a7 r3 h$ `+ K% `6 |* d* p
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is% b2 ~; b- e _, M4 P
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
9 d1 ?: z& r/ H/ V# _7 [employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires/ s( {3 B I; [: X1 y* u6 s
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
7 c" s% G0 J8 S7 T( v$ Gall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

; u/ v) g$ E/ I! n# wFunctions and responsibilities:
3 z: t; @% i+ ?The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 m5 `# @3 P* f% x0 E! q- p
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
; f& x s/ i8 I: r$ y% h4 }- O& kofficers of the Coalition
: ^, y! Z% L2 h( X7 }- J, y2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
# P# B \9 z# m9 I6 Q& I+ \) Forganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations6 y, g) U( I: y, }& B
and public institutions
5 I4 Z% s0 I+ P& y; ]% O5 ~3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through9 {" K, Y: H- w7 a2 e0 T
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives$ P6 z/ K; N! e3 N) ~2 t5 q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
; o" u3 S* A3 D& D# F* ^* X0 j) [organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with* L7 q- r4 B! w1 e! _2 e/ B

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working' k x+ O; c: ^' L
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically# P% A- V# X" H
diverse backgrounds, D% J3 g4 Q8 ?5 c1 g" A3 P! x
- V% i K5 h+ f3 ?. z9 HAdministrative responsibilities:
' c1 H. |9 [; D7 I& R& ]: _5 O) s1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its4 M2 @2 o# u) G k
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of2 T7 K" t* R; k+ v0 X
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
6 g( j- Q0 D, m* m1 v9 Smembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, e) G- D6 s. I3 {2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

6 D* h6 J% B8 WRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
) G' n7 |# \1 @: l7 G' }( S1 CAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to/ m0 M+ k9 V0 I# q
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating$ y1 E; s% z) b! h& Z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
, @$ D2 z; D: }; NThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 ? f6 l# e7 ?9 D7 S7 r
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: L$ }9 b6 S& {; K. w+ o. f8 xbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership3 S$ F# e' `# i* m6 z
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and# S. a# a; y8 z$ I" v5 ^
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of! E2 P. f7 t2 X' w; }; s
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial0 j H9 `0 b, }" Z; h
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
$ o% p# |6 P; p7 v8 }# z* N8 Vmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
" d3 s9 |' G1 f$ N8 E ^directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
