( a7 j6 s( X' z+ x' T* a. NRoles and Functions
+ P. b0 Q! u( i3 Y5 k9 @+ ]6 uThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; H: M* ^0 N3 i0 y8 Rorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
5 a2 @. p+ m' M) s, toperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has4 L" i3 X- r' P: Y" C- D0 A
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 [7 e2 o/ X5 k! R
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular; c( f1 M/ l; _' i
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 H- o$ @7 i# @+ Fconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an. }' t/ M% K l5 |. F' D% ?+ u6 U
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
3 y5 M* h: H9 C) }, Tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 @% X" I6 \( z- K! T* K0 T
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
/ ~( F% R4 Z3 F2 P( s1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
5 W9 g( S. R& L" G8 }officers of the Coalition
4 s- L: R1 _4 p' q/ U4 X# R2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural, N' {+ y+ c3 h1 }
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations4 R) D# I; {( G3 m
and public institutions
9 H% O- }: X d2 A' ^' `3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. g8 x! I9 Q& @: v9 q' T: Mfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
4 h% K4 D c5 _5 J4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community, p: C( q9 w, o4 j" O: X; w
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

4 U: j5 v1 g# B5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

Administrative responsibilities: |+ `8 R) [# g" }/ ~
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its+ L$ u+ \! l) P( H+ m! |* P$ h: p
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
+ W" z) M9 h" U) J" V/ b' ?4 Cdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! a) t$ I: h, b$ Y8 N
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 N( r' z% ]" N& {" k" U, ]
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
3 M& x7 R& V, ? b6 _Multicultural Coalition0 H1 e3 i4 F( G# X& E
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board' L5 x8 `( Q+ S& z$ a2 d( ?
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
4 X6 C" }1 F- V: O( Y1 L" Mimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 ]( O9 u5 K9 n Q" [operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 w) w V5 C: s9 X U4 d
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
7 R2 V2 |1 z" h% C$ Z; r1 baims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
0 {/ L; S9 b) S. {" Z( d2 Qbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership$ w! d+ w1 o. k% \9 T; v' }+ t
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: `% K; }( {6 Y( p) i7 Y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
) {# {: r B6 g; i% _1 Cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ @+ Q) p" l9 d6 H# m
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all* [+ l9 m" y% _) |6 D/ C# l
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) f5 W o' ^4 Edirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
