9 T( _( Q% K! \+ B% I7 l3 N7 T* {4 {Roles and Functions# k# l, T, i( X! n) ?
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the# E. ?, l( ?1 t
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the7 I7 l) q# b: T
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has9 y+ I' I# ?- I+ W" F$ d! y
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,, ^: b: n4 f# W3 {$ ^5 ^3 X; t8 k
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 k- Z) o( c- }. {7 _- H
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
2 m# T. I/ d' |conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
) ~ A" o7 g/ K2 \0 Bemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. A9 U# q: S" S7 j
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
' m6 k) O' v" t. h5 D$ D4 s4 }all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
, X( l# t" e- l3 g; ~4 A. N" MThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:3 F/ J9 u$ E3 M
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
: O. F4 _7 K0 v( ]3 Kofficers of the Coalition
' a# M8 h6 }. A; T2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural) B2 ?1 Z! }/ R- S; H
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, f( L/ y# S$ P! X2 \2 s3 R
and public institutions
* s9 _" v9 B) {1 \5 b% F' k5 \3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 F* \: a$ S* vfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
& B$ b9 L+ d E2 |8 A" @$ _: }3 l4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
! O, H$ G6 ]" }1 _organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
; V- R1 g& ~3 G5 sthese organizations

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
' Z" X2 x9 f5 D1 y- [# p2 T1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its1 X7 f) o* K9 S* j( K: K! V
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
8 @0 @5 ~% q8 }0 y2 ^# mdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the% C& |% C, `) G3 y* Y
members of the Coalition’s financial condition./ }$ F5 Y# e/ a* V" o% a4 S4 V
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
& W3 |# l2 F0 I1 P* r( oMulticultural Coalition
/ Q/ j5 k) b4 j9 WRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
* U* W$ T5 @5 s: f3 I4 e- iAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
$ j( D: t @$ t v; Simplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating2 T7 l/ k3 W) I: R5 V, L7 i9 J
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.4 w: Y6 c7 @7 y$ P2 h
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and: R1 _2 k! I) J8 o' N g) _
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- M3 f$ {. }$ M* E I8 @be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
& l/ V h! I0 {8 _participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& C, ^( e; D) `' M' I( ~" Afacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 O' m5 q$ N1 T& W' l \
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
# ]. P6 z( s9 G# }statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all* O% g; ?' |+ g! D# b- M
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 s( u' `" U/ ~% o3 {$ N ~3 W" E& a
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

community level

Pay Range & Terms
$ A9 I: {5 v( h; z4 yThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
