Roles and Functions0 h1 T9 N1 u2 b2 x' n$ t: |3 \
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 f% l O" M% ^( eorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the4 k% D$ [, }, | \
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has# M: U( B4 W1 S: W6 x' r
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
5 s1 l7 G8 s9 q1 ?+ J, loperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular: A+ W5 g% C! V; p# x1 g( F4 d) t/ d
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
R1 @2 }8 ~! Iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ y& s1 _: r& Wemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ [- B0 H# `( ], `staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
4 W8 G3 z4 i: p' J6 Q' |/ A e# mall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

d f% |! s+ B% s* ^6 o1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the& ^1 Q" l8 O9 z# B% G
officers of the Coalition% V9 r3 J) w3 \& g! C: {8 i
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; A f w3 a( i- P. J3 O( X1 P
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations$ h, X+ I! \2 ?8 u/ Z& F
and public institutions
- g1 ?9 ] U8 Q H, u, E) Z3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through

4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
0 c- `% ]; u: E5 n+ V# W2 Xorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community5 L! L: _8 e# Y, Y

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

# S5 M2 {! r# F' r7 U) [4 LAdministrative responsibilities:# p; x& @, A1 J6 V
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its/ E! @4 t( ~- H
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of' o# i+ ~ p- l! X
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, v' b7 n9 ^. O8 u' \# K
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
( J7 y# F/ t6 H, E" V# \2 ~2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the2 U2 z, X8 s( K8 X* x6 e

$ F& s* U: [: X) D UAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
' a) A' Y9 @3 T4 ?, o7 E* V4 jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating# |3 K% d/ d( W: Q6 `4 x% Q* ~) A' h( w
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.5 {8 R t& {# g* U9 T
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and2 R2 X0 v9 L. b: p
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should( r1 ^% E7 j5 [: N) k
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership( j$ P( k: j) l( a% r
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and( a" L! B" b9 W. m3 a6 u* x
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of5 F0 m( K) L, v0 i; n' q
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
! |/ l! x, S+ E" A4 P; \) p" vstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
" M& m! ~$ a5 L! W4 @" @matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' c; o2 |& n% ~0 r
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of( H- @3 z- z5 O+ s7 U/ _7 K
policies already adopted

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with# w: `1 G U* f; w' t+ o
possible extension depending on funding.
