The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition" H% u, y8 S: ?% W; d! N
Roles and Functions
; J9 e& q4 \: p _0 bThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
( T" h1 u+ T3 A/ Yorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
+ r$ Y/ |, _+ r) e5 q, ~0 Coperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 {0 g( m$ j* ~6 `# a3 f8 \6 {" \the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
' X; D+ s9 q# u' `operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular$ B( f1 a ^7 c; u( W( j, R1 Z
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
6 }1 X% m9 X( ~- @) `# Gconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
1 V* i. i6 m3 r& s- `employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires& j/ G& O( p5 O/ j( b
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 ^7 q# x- d1 v1 Y t3 F) ~9 j; X( k
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
' m+ |1 v, K; T! q1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the# C$ R8 ~" C. @; e" k1 y2 s
officers of the Coalition' N3 N$ e: C- e9 \3 V7 q6 M
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 S( B9 f6 R% Porganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations4 N% _, A2 X3 [/ I* }4 m4 w% {' M @
and public institutions
& U# q% s N* X+ c3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
0 P1 Z. @6 z5 s0 h2 b( n$ Dfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
; q$ O' t- k$ ^& G& P: q4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
$ K* {3 c& w) i. f Corganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
( [9 H% q" x W+ G7 S) B- Ithese organizations

diverse backgrounds

1 Q( n3 i4 b) v; g7 H: MAdministrative responsibilities:0 E& y- K: ], F
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- ~: O/ G3 l: _5 \( s
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
|" B6 A; y X) g# zdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the. L# R* Y4 m* r, D* a: z7 H7 `
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
6 {; ~0 y0 y. R5 v7 w8 l" C7 X2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
3 W" C+ v% @8 G- D( RMulticultural Coalition6 P' W0 C7 f! W( H
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
. l8 J. c3 }# H% rAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to9 d* y8 C; v( U" }2 e; ?" |# z
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 d: |- \2 B4 \+ j) V( s: i6 R. Yoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ s/ D3 Z5 Y0 O6 n+ {" G8 gThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and- P. G9 [! S# Z
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should \9 e: N8 l8 z& s5 G; v
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: m) a8 u, t2 Yparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
/ _: c# U `5 E# ?0 P ]9 sfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of6 b% l# e* M" T) {" X
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
/ t$ q7 j, W9 f0 _( Estatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all: f) F% e' k5 {, J8 T1 Z4 D5 b
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
( k* n7 K. @ d" d0 j$ X- edirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: `% | v+ @! f/ ^$ H( Q' Z
