9 Q% A/ O! o9 a: i# D8 jThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition9 z# W6 ]% ~( _* X! m1 G
Roles and Functions
# \9 t9 D. j( j! l9 j/ S; x! \$ KThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the0 _% t% C/ u; g) Q! m4 Z. [
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
" G' E' n& o( d n+ T) k# l0 _; q6 O- q. Loperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has( M& Q( }' t: D/ ?: }5 n
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 O$ m* b, v% v- l/ Z6 O" U
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) V3 J/ L7 Q) t+ Nboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is& K0 K* D w. [7 N2 |% z7 m
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: H" s2 P" ]* P i1 t8 z* t. r) E- N; d
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
9 P+ y% @1 Y1 Jstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend" ^1 l7 T3 P0 j' G5 A
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the1 Q' a3 c; E& f9 B6 d( ~; p( Q# g
officers of the Coalition
" e8 r$ Z) K; x1 [2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural# D% I. y. }) n# M- i" |
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations2 g8 P- r8 r j$ l4 T
and public institutions- [% {; f! P+ z- ~4 w4 z
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
( H" q7 v' X4 q& |% F A/ p9 Jfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
* E, V; b2 d' Q4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
$ R L5 h) A) ]; c7 Gorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community: Y* S7 z; ^! q0 v

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- n" P1 m1 E6 `9 d5 v4 }3 H
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
/ p! x/ T8 b r' ddirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' ^1 k2 }5 q1 E$ d- _- O$ Kmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.

" `3 X% b: s& l6 A1 UAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
& C3 p* z3 h- ]implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating) Z3 C0 ?4 y2 V9 c
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.2 ]" u1 V1 J$ G* w: @1 f# i: @
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and9 f$ \; S/ B: K; ~. e l# N
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
3 _& R; {) C& U( |be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
5 k0 j K' T+ C4 p6 O- Q" dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and' Q2 D/ d0 J- f3 J5 m
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 e" i: ~- H) S P# U. N2 {; cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* D$ f1 z* l$ K8 a5 n: W6 Gstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all6 e0 H1 ?- g7 z% H, g7 ?
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) B8 B; f3 A( g- C: sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of3 Q N$ q1 v% W) C) j% J6 e
policies already adopted
