The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition3 ^, i/ T9 n9 M$ T8 Q
Roles and Functions6 m# J8 P2 v) J3 }5 I( F/ W3 A" m' t
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
$ i/ ~ u/ d: C8 n6 morganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the. w# q- M& |+ P8 d. ]
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has3 b/ }* |5 C* H' N" A4 _
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
/ J( @0 K0 |" h$ D+ @operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular& L7 R: e9 q4 w" ]6 r" A
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is; X, R: Q; _$ Z
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an% ~+ Y4 V: U* P+ c7 p& ~
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
4 [8 |( w% b' R9 Tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% D2 b+ V5 c! D0 j$ ]9 }, |+ T. yall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
3 b& H1 M0 G& j. Z5 T% {* yThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:6 j& }, d. ~4 C* r
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
% C3 T2 h+ f2 ^: m* D6 r r+ F6 N8 Aofficers of the Coalition/ \$ k: W0 n0 x: W
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural$ k$ l7 e) L' {" b
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 a; h. J5 o2 @/ y- M/ _
and public institutions
# j/ W7 {6 z- q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
8 |! m0 N1 D3 Wfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
2 d+ D* v2 I2 J7 o4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
4 ~4 A5 e/ q) N* O9 vorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community, G) d1 m! N* a3 U0 Y. z; v

Administrative responsibilities:: Y& d' d, d! |) }
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
4 p* `3 N! z! Oregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
* z2 C8 L" p w7 r3 Wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
1 Y) k5 i+ ^( ?( N( Xmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' ^6 c5 C! `. M X1 G2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 i+ N7 C& p0 H. D" r! F

* s9 [3 _5 T; J& CAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! O4 p s. Q- f! q, ?
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
c) P! [# H( m8 |; r5 Joperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
3 ` T3 d3 J& L9 {9 M2 j" rThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and# w- `: A. ?1 E
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should2 P, Y+ N( C+ n) P2 I
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
2 l K( S% T" h3 T( B4 W2 Q4 T9 dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and: w- t8 Q, ^! a/ V% x& e0 E
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of1 U: o |- F# K1 u& g9 h7 l: O
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 C9 q+ c% m; e) Z
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all# \. H" z% m' E7 s4 _- O5 u
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 S6 t: N5 s `/ ]" ]
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of+ [2 |8 ]& ?6 T

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

possible extension depending on funding.
