The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition9 M! s5 }0 B% j L0 K
Roles and Functions5 s+ t" I0 ?( N8 o; G5 h
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- `; z$ V* U9 c) J2 g4 y) j5 W- J) Forganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& N5 x2 c. ~6 }- X: uoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 a6 [4 ?. j2 {1 Mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
! T4 v. Q- b! L: I5 e. J/ ooperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
5 Z' |6 y$ r. g. ]" |board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is& l2 T' }, V! E, Z. w9 Z
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
& d& s: ]( Z5 y7 ~! lemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( {2 Z9 u8 `, R- k! Q, hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend- M9 z, q% B2 E3 s7 T
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

6 J& _, ]' Z6 Z1 t, ]9 z/ B% F1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural+ S9 P$ U, E8 u O% E1 J
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
! |$ }8 D1 Z& \and public institutions, q4 e1 V( Z- a( P: D0 @8 V0 W: W8 E
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through2 c& j8 `, A5 `! f, Q4 P7 @
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
+ j$ ?+ T( D8 c4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community/ g0 s) n* o8 x% {0 N. Q5 _
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

7 b4 m- |8 |6 l1 N; a6 j- Y2 f% H1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
" F; n1 h5 H, T1 N% ?/ K& bregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 i& }# F& T W- @( s2 D
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 q" ~9 N7 _5 O+ C7 ?members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
4 e9 B- s$ ^/ u" k9 e' }" x2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# @1 q. v( ^# b. e0 _

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
6 X0 o3 E. K/ K8 `: b; fAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# F$ }3 e# Z0 ~* |" [* j0 `
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ l/ Z0 x( u b1 Woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.4 M- i) ?+ {6 S+ }: {( g, {" N
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
" \5 q. U) ?* B- {1 c: O/ t; Taims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% h# C0 m! A; n/ C1 _be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership: O6 s1 Y, x& T1 c: I4 ~2 o! m) }
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and |( U& r& ?; o
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- V2 u, Y7 _! v2 e$ r& D
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 ]& O$ \* l+ m3 {2 h5 H: dstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all

directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of! z6 w+ l+ `+ n6 N( \- w

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
