Roles and Functions* P* F5 r8 w' s2 t$ E" n
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
8 ~ @9 n3 l A9 @9 s' _# jorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the, R' L0 B# l( F( z
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has1 B4 Y( h. H: k/ H" ]. w' O1 u
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
. f2 K6 e! |. f9 [operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular+ p/ ]- s+ ^& r, b
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
' E$ [4 k& m7 ~( v/ C# hconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
- V7 [# i+ H2 @employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( A. c) n' D2 Y: hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend( {8 f' U3 h7 L2 W* W$ m
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

- q7 J# M! }7 k! X1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the* |9 u" w x# g( l5 ]
officers of the Coalition
: x X3 h# V' _" C5 E2 Y3 u2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
. e/ l4 }% N- {# P( B% Xorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, L$ |( `( K7 @8 jand public institutions
1 K* Y! p( P" e- v3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
l9 t& n* z6 c. {! q; Ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
3 P& U+ b: D8 F1 i( \2 o/ L" }4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
8 A' }- ?$ {* D: S Sorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

. g/ h4 m5 V( J# U+ P5 Y, [with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

# p3 h8 t9 h/ K nAdministrative responsibilities:' r3 Z# Z6 D) p5 h7 b% V: s3 ^4 s
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its( B1 ^% E; G. E: M/ o9 n$ g" p3 m
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
! W" ~$ V: N5 l/ J Xdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the! W& ^' n, W! `
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 q1 K; |0 F1 Z2 d$ c
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the, `& \. E7 y% h) J
Multicultural Coalition
, F b, ]: ]' B4 y1 \7 jRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
/ l- Z; b6 f1 Q% [2 l' P- KAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# }. |% @; w+ M2 q0 V' r
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- Q, ^( [) R' |( K# [2 @operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
$ [& J2 L) t! I; h, j: r* |& h1 PThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and! `5 R& R6 m1 v
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- y+ f t! }; V* A; ]5 s! Xbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
9 Y+ B0 Y& o5 p5 G0 K! Pparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
G. ^) x5 D/ q8 Vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of. m S3 d9 _1 I+ f; H- Z
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
- u, r! x# r& _5 _statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all- {2 Y5 w3 f# C* Z/ |
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of+ k7 z8 R0 n9 ~3 j% ]8 i c( [
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of; v6 y; b" ] g6 N; j9 ~' H

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and
