The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

; h0 S$ C0 U* U' @1 BThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the4 ^9 D8 x& _5 k/ O
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the. |" y. j$ D% j8 f- z
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has/ y- F1 y8 h/ n6 A$ Q8 H. ^
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
- `2 O2 |% @1 O: z! {& Roperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular$ ?+ w: E9 o9 {2 J# a' Q$ R
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is& [6 v6 X8 \6 t" A) P# c ]
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
4 i: o% N7 |" Y/ Cemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
( M2 y& d" ~- n4 Sstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
( _! Q0 S$ x; U$ w% @7 rall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:+ j x. E1 ~% O) g
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
~# x) @; x/ E+ i' W8 G% o) t1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
0 N, a3 r7 s$ Z) D( Vofficers of the Coalition% r, n8 c y1 {. E& w& d
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural$ N. @! Z$ N8 D P+ v p# i
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
4 O$ X# w6 Z2 d; ~$ c" ]and public institutions
! I j H0 @* P( Q% F3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through; p1 u' ?. F ]' e n; D
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( @8 D$ d- p5 C7 v" `! Q& f
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community& {2 e9 r$ B R- B( \) Q1 w
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

8 [. X$ p- d. w# [3 |+ u5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
& l: M2 c* u% k" uparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
& a* }) `* l6 Q3 B7 L$ `* Q, ]7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
: y8 x" ]* J8 l% u c$ xwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically5 X- B' J9 L x
diverse backgrounds# x! F: y7 h8 N% m, ]3 k
/ d! V: g* A: q6 T' LAdministrative responsibilities:- }) O4 u q1 ~- Q% f( C4 F
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
9 F( K' Z" L: H2 \& p3 g8 m- `5 pregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of7 T9 t: X$ o" [" g# M( U
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' N# g0 h5 s7 v( B" A7 hmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 m# ]1 o: u9 q- Q; t% z/ b0 E9 V& V2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
3 v; g9 u* ~1 k' C4 t) f5 v) I* |Multicultural Coalition
. P3 s+ E( k1 e1 uRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board8 T# A4 t- t1 `& [ F
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
. k+ F4 Q' m% Z1 v! A v+ Yimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating( x- q; T- U H1 [
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.6 } L- f% |1 e; x
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 e! o8 @- [# r, o7 A+ Haims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should6 C( H6 x2 _$ b* W
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# ]) y( x& X$ ?( x8 l Y$ V: E
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
6 A2 ]( B* Z. Dfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- G- O7 \2 i# C( j& m2 w+ F g
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ c7 j8 t8 C& G
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all: Q9 {# f5 R& s% Y! D+ z% N
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
: x' i; j1 c3 V5 bdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of+ d# f6 K S$ t& p$ R& u
