The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition$ g& ^. \6 B" ~
Roles and Functions8 S7 j2 u* S5 p1 J% \( g6 W
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the4 l0 }7 l* i6 y8 C- n5 ~9 I
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 t8 t7 F# y! C4 Q+ r
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has& k# [& `! f/ G9 k' e
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
+ t7 w2 |& Z0 Yoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
0 ^6 x. h- y6 v- g# Y( @ Nboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is0 e$ [% g. r) H2 [
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: _: b& @7 D R# l8 C9 `
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 T, O* e& V/ K0 x8 Y" F, cstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
8 ?5 i, f+ l/ _$ Pall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
. |! ?: T) d+ ]$ [9 H, Fofficers of the Coalition1 w+ C5 r5 y) H; {) T/ w
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
2 l: [9 h% L U+ R" c# jorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations+ v# [6 v) s+ V; X# b. J
and public institutions
( a8 F2 }/ x, Z3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
0 o% `# s# q/ u" Bfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
/ g! ]3 e! H$ V5 r; I* ^6 v4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
% Z1 ^3 D) Y( k- @: @( Jorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic- v3 P- L, ~. a/ S* z5 E& f; }
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society9 ^' `1 |% i6 r6 ^+ Q
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
9 j3 D1 B9 n6 j* y) A- Gwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically) [1 j6 j5 S4 F, A2 g3 R
diverse backgrounds# K1 h# K3 [% u9 ~2 ?6 t
j( v9 e% t+ g, {9 p' j @Administrative responsibilities:
$ U$ p* c1 E4 i* [5 U1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
: _: S. m8 W8 {5 R5 _' ^" Lregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of7 }5 c0 ]' ]5 A" W4 i6 s* U3 T
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
: [" j3 W- X& bmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
{9 ^: t% N5 `. H/ B2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, J0 E' U Y2 Q9 F- [. HMulticultural Coalition
& W# N% R+ ?, H3 [& V, @Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board, C$ \7 L8 T* }1 a3 |
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to# ^* p: J* O- ^. T1 ]
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
* v: V# s, v# B- ?: S5 woperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
- [) x+ @* t6 A9 yThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and" M" g; p0 i3 |% C0 k$ V* K
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
" A3 T4 m) I1 Q6 Ibe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
9 G! h) i8 e7 eparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
" Q' {1 I. `( [facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& O- ^6 Z$ B% w; t C0 v& ~) B
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial B0 b8 r; N M% a' j& x% I/ u
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all5 z t G1 T0 r. F
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of* K# S1 G" a% J7 i8 Y4 O- D& z
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
