The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition1 S# B3 w) c! H! `
Roles and Functions" o8 o, A2 t/ b/ S
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
7 b9 v1 G) S+ P+ G, L, x. b eorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the9 Y" ~7 A/ R; Q# e
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
, E5 N5 ^) G O0 ?# F& K# Hthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,* l) ^3 d% C( g9 B5 z1 l4 Q
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular( U& P5 B. {4 u: \' T: I6 @+ c0 }
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% J- T0 O @% w |conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
1 z+ P% b3 i* f m5 ^employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
! V3 [3 E* w) h' r4 Mstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend& L& b0 \1 Y5 r1 M: T
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:) F% \0 W8 L* U* ~# a$ F" T( I
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
$ k5 O2 u! g/ \" f! bofficers of the Coalition
. X: o9 ~5 E4 e6 d! @( E2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural) n+ P: r5 E' I, K
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations- R1 y. l: ` P( _2 ]: n6 c
and public institutions* R6 ?9 o3 K/ r$ S
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through, T0 T, @ Q$ C+ q& M5 e
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives: a/ Z4 r& w; E4 S* ?2 K
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community$ M2 N" D/ c1 P T- ]6 j+ q0 Z
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community6 p8 d# u+ ?/ {% n6 A

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic$ N( D- ?7 ^! q
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically4 s5 ^6 T6 S; l& W8 Z" w0 o, h2 Y

2 E9 W- M, u& @% iAdministrative responsibilities:8 @) I. {! r+ B! m |8 W6 C v- W
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
9 r2 z) S! g( N" Rregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! L7 K$ V0 b- `3 C% V
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, F& j: T# |9 I- R8 ]$ Y3 V } m1 o" o
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.& G+ C3 d! N' \& \6 ]' C
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the6 e3 e/ [0 z% d, ]* ]0 P

3 I4 R& P+ w% b) e$ IAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to) O- Q/ v3 Z0 j+ C" Z
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating( E0 ^; h/ b( W0 W
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
1 L+ W" x! W! m5 T4 ~0 x1 PThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and3 M0 h. J7 T' A! k
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
2 p7 H$ n4 t9 M9 n- {( L% @8 bbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
, F# C; A( K# }8 Q; lparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and9 z& c) u9 i+ j9 j q6 i4 U
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
9 |1 f8 [$ Z/ R0 A3 pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) c d) z+ C; h; @9 Q0 jstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 K- K* f0 a9 d4 U' i+ {% hmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of; s2 N% f* c5 s! r6 @
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 m; z& Z4 S/ H0 n3 ^7 W) T

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
