Roles and Functions
9 J/ |0 D' N6 R- oThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the& g+ M: I( N4 ]$ [
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the8 z9 v( G: l1 u; y" z2 Z! j* L% R
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
! \3 y( ~) @2 q+ Fthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,4 p! t& s! s2 H. h5 }5 i9 Y
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular, h% x; O5 H5 q q* P1 i
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is3 v1 j/ q: X: D
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an! W5 J; c, F2 w
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires2 Y6 r& ~0 _. f4 T* U- X
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend, q# f2 o4 w$ ?5 C: e5 d( W
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.6 N9 Y a0 l% y5 C

Functions and responsibilities:9 `+ Z8 L8 S3 X' P; G
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:. @' q, P, u$ \) d8 ~) S3 `1 J
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 O5 w% T+ ]3 p* B3 ~" w
officers of the Coalition& T) o. k5 I4 b [) g: g% Z2 e
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
/ g/ |0 l* q$ V1 L% E f, Q% qorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations/ C5 p! A* w4 s- T m
and public institutions, m, k( a- R c9 R5 y6 ?
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
# D% q1 Y* M+ N1 g0 R& C% r9 ~funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 s: J* d/ Y! |2 T; F& X5 v
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
# i( o7 y4 _; I9 E$ ]) X) ?8 oorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

( N) {% i$ \ I5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic7 r1 j" W: @ R4 T$ d" I- E+ c
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society5 C' d$ U3 t8 q& | V; ~( Y& W
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
$ I3 m1 q+ q; b% k) i& t2 d4 t; twith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically: z4 q0 t1 i7 P/ |
diverse backgrounds

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
7 A/ r: n# I1 P; K3 Gregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of3 H0 W% j7 s1 h, c& B
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
- @! m4 @7 r0 J# K( vmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
9 G( ?7 u V/ y$ ~" A) N2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the5 e6 `( [3 D( l+ X; e d

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
. Q# B6 |- a& Mimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating0 I; ]! B& \% O( _1 Y
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
+ N! R1 d8 N9 C! w2 C4 f. i# a" g6 kThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
. w9 R4 w" C) d- T1 [# L! Naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should2 G) @/ U0 q. B+ i) B/ n6 J9 X
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership- u& F- E' Y- J: P, s
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
" d' q& S$ ~0 C* C# x5 D3 rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
" h+ x3 A3 `0 g5 ?( I+ sdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
4 z; [1 |/ I4 a" `8 Bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
& W) G+ h# J" h( K; ~$ Cmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

policies already adopted

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

community level

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
