The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
; k2 G2 w- c/ i0 ^: u& YRoles and Functions
6 l3 ` W- B3 dThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the k5 h4 j/ h! s
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the- C0 p3 V& @8 u/ z3 q. J
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has: K! x- z. \+ P S7 @
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress," @9 d. Q+ q$ ^* x( N+ L3 m
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular% H0 y% R, u( w+ A6 I
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
% k+ ~$ g* Y- B& l" qconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
3 N7 s5 I7 ^5 P, D( v @' Jemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
: j2 [8 J1 \& N. n4 V4 G4 ^staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
* M1 z; B7 g7 R; Z9 X, F* lall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 p. [8 I8 s* |
& }- O3 W9 [' Z+ Y7 E; S& fFunctions and responsibilities:* Y: E1 Y4 U1 L- b5 y3 M7 F
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:* T* ]/ ?( x- a" O4 @
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
% U( y& ]6 E* b) [- c+ g6 u0 J0 vofficers of the Coalition
& n1 i$ Z1 u2 s9 w) q* i2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural" {9 q( [% ^3 Q4 K9 f* w6 ?5 C
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
! ] \& j; L0 w5 m* }( S' ^and public institutions
: k$ W3 l T. J3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through, p9 N2 S: }5 E* S* r
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 S! ~7 o1 S# u7 Y0 k4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community0 D# f- O: P6 h/ a5 B& l
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with9 i; K5 k+ Z2 R7 `; W5 w0 U

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community! s7 b+ g8 U2 u; [5 z9 x- w5 i( n

' e6 t% j6 s9 b" n2 ]participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically# C' B. ?- N, W, ] ~& ^& O

! r& W* g( P; w, M) U. MAdministrative responsibilities:
2 j; W7 `4 p( i, G) w, z1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
y9 s: z5 J0 w' G2 r: o/ i3 v% sregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
( ?/ s5 b: \$ z' _directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% _% r. V. h8 o4 r' h# Omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 M7 \& { S- r
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the, n! j W- h) q* N

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board% ]. S1 V0 B0 X1 Q9 n0 U5 \0 t' Q
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
: C& r' n7 k; L1 b, fimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" B2 Y. ^7 I7 a
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
, o$ j; |9 `) G% RThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and* ^+ b% n, E! d8 b- q) R; N
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should3 L& H1 ?# f$ h0 I+ }& v5 t" V& P
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
! j! w/ D0 K0 t- pparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
! ?( x: r9 \# l' [( cfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
1 z0 r; o- U! p! Q/ n7 wdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ R7 v' O8 |/ E: T9 K
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
2 H' D5 c4 R. V9 k3 v5 Vmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of6 Z! G+ @8 c1 L: \5 h
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of$ E2 H* ?" ]7 C2 p/ s8 D% j8 Y4 E
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
