1 b! Z8 T N' c$ IThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
# [7 `8 A, |3 Z# C% KRoles and Functions
) g8 ^" ^/ l) V- f+ g$ {The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the: x% a6 V1 w, D) ]( M
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 N2 ]6 ]" O J7 ^
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has3 X( Y' p$ M2 z+ Y. A
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,; S+ h. x( y; j/ a0 R
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
# I O$ V2 ~: g9 d* j1 `# u z. e6 M ^board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
4 ~+ B i! ^$ L7 T, `% ]conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an1 V# }5 D" t" G$ a
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
3 X+ G$ `7 v: c: Q1 P/ K7 Cstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
/ T9 V' f9 ?# q N8 call board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:- G% o- W& S8 w& s9 @
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:; a9 ^) z+ w7 _6 m. O
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the' t3 a6 O9 Y' w& Z' S& g
officers of the Coalition" x# D3 r% `1 N* ?5 B! z& L
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural/ ~# L- Y, ]# K
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
o+ W5 C( u+ @4 `( Z: T" r. Oand public institutions4 i# e3 x4 O2 t
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
6 s6 v( p3 e# l) r8 dfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives6 I5 ~9 l' A+ t ]* F$ {! T
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community6 n$ [. H: G1 C* b) V0 i
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

. M8 g% n; D7 y5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic% q0 [: y/ U# H& }8 w2 _" c
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society# O$ E5 z8 Y6 ?' [6 ^0 i
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working( z; Q- \0 I' L V
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically6 W. P& i4 f0 _4 _' Y: a* P+ P

Administrative responsibilities:# T7 p/ _* }" F6 y+ [0 ?
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its8 Y& Y9 ?: f; P9 O
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
. a, t9 _* J, j: wdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the' i# q% f7 a2 W
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.% L, I+ ?1 b0 ?3 D& k3 Y
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the& s e; y3 ]5 T1 K

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to: s* f* \# ?1 G
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating2 O3 Y, ~. b) W- o
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
" z M" @, H4 C/ |The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
& @8 T3 i3 N |6 f- ~7 raims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should" M0 H T" z+ v2 H" g9 }2 d
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
) Z: z0 b0 }$ s. w9 _' W/ mparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
. h$ A- x4 d! b) f" ^+ U0 ~7 ^$ d3 Bfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: g2 _1 {/ d) P7 r R& f: g
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 I( @' X( ?, W* s" J; O
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all) Z/ U% n+ k/ j1 Z, ]
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
