The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition0 R1 J: x, q- V$ l' r* f
Roles and Functions; k+ E- ^- ]6 ]7 `( P: D% d* h
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the* Z: l) k4 i+ _1 Y0 _- s
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
" z9 c9 r6 H: y3 Boperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
0 T* r! }8 |4 ]) v( F8 Nthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 ~' `: L' s/ W/ q9 ]; A7 `
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular' n) A6 G7 ^& U f9 @! b+ f
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& m S8 P7 V, y: K" Oconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
* x' d# B. L+ }% J8 x! \* Aemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires" Q' l$ `6 {% M8 n; R- `! V
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend* w) c3 r' t1 E$ y- U- y. [, K) w
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
0 m( E/ P9 s( q. J7 F" t" K7 MThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:: K- ?& U; i, E3 n1 R+ v0 a; ?
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
' |. H% ?8 |8 \officers of the Coalition
' n: s9 R9 T8 l* u+ Z% J2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
( n2 ]; f" e4 k. k' F( Uorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations$ @5 j- M( D k( G$ {% R4 k% z H
and public institutions9 H6 r1 f' d3 P6 ^$ T
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. Z; M, p; _5 e- t7 O) ~# N
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
9 m7 T: [, |4 O8 z4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
+ Q1 R$ {) ~, Z3 } a1 A9 U8 I( ~: Uorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with8 e8 L8 P j1 `6 f# ^% Y

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:( b! @7 l4 e- g) o% H# a( j
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
& s8 x8 j$ F5 a6 Z% p! K) zregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of" M; c1 O$ r' R
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the) ?; H& L5 o# r: Q0 p
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.' B. ~2 J$ z- Y0 Y5 X# U; b! w' X
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the5 w0 b: H1 r( u, a/ ?& G( c

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, \5 v. m" G$ e# [0 f A4 K8 n8 aimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 y$ g. b* s& joperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.1 f% g: A% C4 @' c& ~4 Y* I% Q M. c
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, ~$ \+ X: V7 K. g
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should( C5 k2 _* m9 K$ ` T& [1 O
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
* W: @, v* r" y2 ~1 tparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and# e6 Q: E1 h9 h
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
0 e3 R7 [. W* T0 f1 Ldirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
; f- h: X$ Q4 \% o# Cstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all2 m/ N7 q7 p/ m, d( D8 J
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
+ y. Y3 G. H4 T% wdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of0 `: r- P& T. u
policies already adopted

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the/ ~3 ~: h7 I7 s. Z3 S
community level

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with, X& G/ ?, y. H" C q, o
possible extension depending on funding.
