The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition8 v2 Q5 E2 x. S% d- ~1 I' `
Roles and Functions: X7 e8 w! |. W; L+ z
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; |) X7 O2 v J- Worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the9 T- n6 U% i4 S% H+ H
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has4 D# m7 j& O9 P8 [. Z
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
! M' J4 Q I4 R2 g+ f. A, a. E6 x/ W5 Xoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular" [ d" p: J" r# w% H
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' p+ E* a: H8 _- H3 n' Y& w
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an" w/ G8 G/ u( |+ ^
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires7 ]7 |4 d' ~% z2 l
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend1 S: |3 y \8 ?" s2 z! o A
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following: O# c# k+ u) L! F2 ^
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the2 \ T+ k* |9 y/ G$ h% E, Q
officers of the Coalition! v5 p2 Z B+ m7 x$ W5 j
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 T" A- R$ d* g: C c$ f' [$ Vorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations: k7 ?2 }+ s; Y* r
and public institutions
6 b6 q. C- E4 V% T5 G! h8 P3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
8 U' I/ T( U0 Q; M) c& L+ f" dfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
4 x5 \! X) a6 m! |, l& R4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 P4 N$ B7 ?% _/ D4 z- K- H1 X
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

leaders

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:6 H) o% ?! ~# F' @, C( E. C
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its2 z2 M- Z* ~! |2 {8 O
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of1 Q0 f' t: Y; Y/ H X) k8 o
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the0 Q1 [ ^. [4 ~
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board( G. W: Q5 n. Z8 m$ I
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" Z6 y: K7 z1 i* b& rimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- |9 L: W$ ?4 t, ~operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
5 o e0 J( a# d0 K/ l3 c1 AThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, `# D4 v% y- H; P2 l$ g4 X
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
) L$ v- ~8 s" w. O. E! W& Hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
6 K8 ^1 J0 l4 X* \: p5 c: Z; Hparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
$ u* `8 ? F& `facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
, v. Q, c" H3 B& @% e7 q0 Ndirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial; X h. {* N& J [+ \
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all+ w7 f" L \4 L
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ P/ m1 a& F& Q- ^9 M" j: m w
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of5 x" q% \. H* I2 t( S: o
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
