The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
! p4 X2 U+ I- \" r9 ?6 \Roles and Functions; D( D% \9 V w: c7 T: }
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
# u. p" d3 H& U% K" ^; worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the, J3 u$ n) ^# q* Q
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has6 [" I2 Y5 M; i7 O- L4 C
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 G* S9 Z: \- U7 D) z' ~0 j' R
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular3 A! d1 x: M& V9 d" m' B# }
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
7 n9 |$ p0 }6 P3 Tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an5 Q6 b) n0 S2 f1 ~# K& z. `1 x
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. y/ @7 _4 f+ A/ m$ M8 p
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
4 j# K- `( I6 Tall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:* U2 Q) C2 Q/ v4 S$ R# @& P2 Y
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 {0 l( ?$ n$ I9 W4 e% I1 Z
officers of the Coalition/ C% m/ x$ b+ _' U# ^9 v3 [: D
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural. B. T8 K' R% u2 K- ^
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations! L: Q, o& \& F3 ]: _$ p
and public institutions
7 _- M4 A' M7 ?3 k; b6 B' h% q7 e: [3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. I$ j& E7 F( f& ]funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives! j/ i- ^8 h6 b7 l8 @. h2 X* _
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community( X4 w. x# ~1 v$ E

, E5 i z i8 Q+ Q0 hparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its4 B0 s+ C e S
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of! J1 B" K9 I/ t7 r8 a
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% k+ h2 N) K" N4 | Q' \) \! |members of the Coalition’s financial condition.; K k( K% b" h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
, r+ E& O- w& H) {( M$ ^+ FMulticultural Coalition: ]# n1 i" A7 P( |( s
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board& M$ _6 L( o' z3 e+ o4 h, m: r; A
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to( N! V1 b; E: Y
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating( Z, `# @8 \1 U5 D- U, l
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
/ Z. i; d- i3 w9 I. DThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and& \7 U! R3 J4 ]& r) L+ j, M# E
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should8 p' c1 L0 y+ M | a" `$ Z
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
0 u' r; R, O N4 _, x) h8 eparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
/ i! b* E, b% Z5 _7 Q f3 N+ Rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: _+ V& a( O) \2 C6 l
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
6 I! t9 n+ l5 z4 J( C# F% y/ Pstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all- g9 V, ^" _8 w
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of3 j/ L5 V6 D; ^8 m. z, B4 Q f
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of; J8 v* D& G4 P$ P
policies already adopted
