Roles and Functions# A7 d% z& J; a% N4 L3 ^- O2 E/ H
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the) ^( R, X% z3 h- t+ a6 I
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the$ t& p* _$ L4 u0 Q
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
4 k& k$ X$ e: W! K4 Cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 m6 @: r4 z( Z$ U! ]: N8 {2 ~
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
, {6 S# C9 q+ g6 c7 P uboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is; l/ m6 K, H0 J, K7 U
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 X5 b6 W3 s! K X' f
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires0 T: |7 @5 b$ p9 F
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend) X9 p' @! d: U `& e& L2 v! R% I, T
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:
t9 j, L( V% rThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
3 E. B4 `7 G1 }" ^6 i- T( o' K" \. P1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
' l' _; m- X5 ~organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
% i* ~. u2 b, V4 {. @+ tand public institutions7 }1 I3 p& I1 d1 w/ y3 B! P
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through- y: `9 p9 x& k
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 b7 @% Y0 U$ i* `' ^( P) S: |- j4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community; F5 K% U% \' i3 U5 o6 L3 a
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with1 N. R& O. w' C+ O. b

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& _, r2 y: |: V9 I

Administrative responsibilities:
5 M/ t0 s& b2 Y7 \$ N3 O; a* e1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its" o! Z6 K0 R" m1 ~' E
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
: V* u, R- U7 ~: tdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the# K4 p& S. g, L
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, X* u# q' E& e" H b0 @! u4 J2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board, |& l# |; i6 t) e2 Z
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
5 `+ K5 j/ O5 G2 i# Y# \implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating4 h1 s7 M& L5 w) q; ?4 [% l6 G: l; t( A
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.* E# M W3 ?& B% m f1 a
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 I$ A& X' L3 z4 H) a! k7 _: y
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
& v2 J) t4 H, ]1 H0 `* ebe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
# {# _% Q9 u+ Dparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& H# p( c# N9 v7 c# Hfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
" x% j+ R5 B! w1 G) E& T/ A+ ~4 hdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
( G7 z/ k* |9 x3 t% ], [statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
0 d/ m) ]+ M; h. jmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of$ n& w* o) b+ l
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
