The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
9 a$ _4 Y1 x r5 v1 h# oRoles and Functions
) a2 L' J, i( l. ~+ AThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
8 H- Y; C- J( w1 L3 q- \$ Qorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
1 q& I7 \1 M) {! Zoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has; G& d" Y2 x; i* I. D
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,+ v" S+ c M4 Z. v& K
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
+ x- E y# |; nboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is d [ ]+ X" _9 [/ w8 X% `
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an- U0 w6 m) l S# j+ [' d2 ^
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. B+ d+ X+ u7 h8 I8 a, V
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend+ k% ^( P- d. w6 E# T# n7 T5 ^$ z
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.6 Z, A9 `+ R! K3 s0 E

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
: P! P" L9 q' A M" g6 Eofficers of the Coalition9 q0 B. r, }0 H e; e
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 p1 G2 e# H+ x; Q) k
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations9 P" {! x2 R% ~1 o J
and public institutions6 T1 A9 b( E: w
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. N7 n! f& H, Z n; f9 h2 Mfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
8 s4 `# W4 Q2 B. Y! {/ p6 c4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
5 h( X4 W2 E" d, s" eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. J0 d* [& v" }/ i5 ~0 z

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community. n; ^7 P4 R6 i ^

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:
4 P1 R1 ]1 X) W7 C* H6 {4 N1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& u3 |2 p6 C- I7 m" {9 Y
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
! B& q. J% K: V# @/ l* ldirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ {9 R( M) r5 Emembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
! |+ g) z, D0 N$ L9 a2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the- F- a' M- h" l) z. `& _

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board* d4 N# r) Q7 B0 ^6 D; `. r
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to1 F4 S# g! g2 Z
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating# \! ]2 O8 O2 t: y
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.5 V* }/ q$ K) r# R
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
3 [" O5 B, E" L* R" X+ Oaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
9 B1 _* Y# b) B3 n$ w. L0 {be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership# k. K6 m7 m$ s, P. I* g) e5 m
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and& Y& j5 A9 ^9 \+ G- y& w# s: n8 j- L
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- b! @. Q) c% T" Y4 V# Y R; j# adirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial$ J# P: G2 t3 J/ n: D% y/ y8 n
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all8 ^6 G" p# ^; B: R$ m. m6 e! _+ G
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
4 ]" W/ Y4 N0 E2 C* b6 ydirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of$ `- B* S! }9 ~; q( f/ r+ B
policies already adopted
