Roles and Functions7 v, u1 p9 }9 q1 P
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the( r/ J3 a- l, _& F: s$ o9 _
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the. [5 _# g; o: B+ ^
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has% ]' o7 V D! T
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,$ O5 D8 T5 g# w2 C
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
" Z% p* V2 t& e u% L2 J6 @board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is3 s1 f* _- E2 r5 W) Q M
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an2 Y5 k+ `; C+ K+ l' q- s1 i# H
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. U6 D1 r, X1 v
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! y+ _: [- T1 z4 Y3 S- Q: o4 ?5 z6 Pall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:* t7 C8 M6 Q) Q: Q, C* n4 @* h
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the& x& i! u A( G. z8 u+ t7 C) X
officers of the Coalition& i7 i0 I6 v& S" D) A
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
5 U- t, v, Y x9 T( j4 j, @$ zorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, t" a$ s1 N6 ?" v6 y3 Z0 f, }# s
and public institutions1 b/ M8 `2 H* B2 n' i8 k3 W
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through: d2 D) b4 w% g+ \
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives6 c3 o1 w, R- K3 H
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community# n5 {; ?& v" ?; {
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community- t2 g. a; ^9 f# ?/ d9 ]- o5 V

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic# W) M9 }) c! O/ p6 t
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
& m: x8 ]% s1 d2 S7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working0 o9 l% B" d0 [, G
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically( l2 N! F4 q$ K' s
diverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities:& A# T* S$ m: @1 n6 ?6 y
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its) X/ R6 R5 [, w6 k5 m4 Y: D* A
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of1 @ k8 Y' }4 t; f
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the/ ?0 m$ J6 r) ?
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ N" N) g4 l' f3 f6 R/ V2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
; u- G4 g8 A" `1 B4 y; ~5 `Multicultural Coalition; R: [; V, a1 a; X) h( n# l
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board1 y7 n" V! i+ O+ S* a2 b
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to; a# f0 B- i% _
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 X1 Q: |! u7 i' T% P3 k3 h6 E
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.2 A, \! u6 I5 g8 P
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
/ b8 y5 v' e! k% E' b% a$ j/ |aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should' Z4 n8 R' N$ h: Z" m# R; H0 v1 [3 J$ `
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
. Q0 P& }( p n4 Y- b l C2 c1 Q! V: Xparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and, q5 p7 @# S2 J& F- B7 l5 N& b* k. c
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" H( Q% N. c1 X' b% d; G* b6 a
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
% C& C. c$ @4 istatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all" m0 P* S! J4 B# r
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
9 `: D \- o" a1 H8 z' }+ cdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of. Z, ?! w8 N0 u8 D- q: }
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms
