6 S7 Z2 H* W9 W q) qRoles and Functions) K) f# ~# y p( w% `0 o% o
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the6 k- k( f$ Z& [2 G
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
, V- r% D8 ^ B& y9 ~! ?operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
! l, z- A) s' E) r8 l+ {the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,6 w, J) |6 B0 ?
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
& [" t$ a; i2 ?" R) b5 Tboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is+ V- f2 D/ ^$ s$ p, E K" h' Q
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
! r5 k1 |6 S U3 c$ u8 T$ qemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% p* ^9 @" j; S
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' A/ y% K3 t- u; Q" o! ^
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.$ n/ h2 U3 H4 \1 B( H

Functions and responsibilities:
& s5 f$ _9 W( aThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
7 I1 T0 U, q+ |/ C3 j/ i9 k- z1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

5 y9 R1 p' U- y2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 }5 c& q2 w, g8 i. w& r$ M' b" Q
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
3 c" x8 L9 M, rand public institutions
) A8 Y8 V1 o1 ?# T, z# h3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
/ i; @& [3 f# @ g2 C3 c' S& N' Ufunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; n8 _$ m X1 O* M1 N/ l% P' R
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community3 @2 d: \$ Z6 O6 G& l( b% @. f
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

8 r% x7 L. F( f B1 r1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
- y& A; d5 O1 P/ A' i1 W' cregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of+ U* E* O" q) \. S! \9 e
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
4 k* C/ q' I# F, B' Y8 w( w i! D4 `" `members of the Coalition’s financial condition.( `. P0 c ]& F# Y! ?
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the0 J: ?9 x1 w+ [6 g0 j" I9 `; q" y. d

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board) w2 [4 u/ ]! [6 q
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
* d6 T3 H' ]+ Q( [6 v- y4 y, {6 Himplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
3 B" `6 j; H& ]; C8 koperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
% j& @$ }2 z6 DThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
( w; d) e& T4 Saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% H% h; Q# c; Q& v5 V% J3 ybe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
; R. c9 M8 ?/ N! v1 q4 {' L2 Sparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
( O4 e w, j1 }# v' K V' f9 S. Ofacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
8 L& R6 q' t9 M. P2 Cdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ o7 Q5 N4 z, ]! d, i* d. Y) Q
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all" K0 _0 L2 B0 m5 G; e: \- H/ s
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of% v" K$ x+ J: r- n- O/ j- t0 R
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles
