The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition5 h9 ~% O* g' V0 S5 h" O
Roles and Functions
1 b4 }6 ^: O4 |( K2 ], a+ MThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
0 u6 J; T/ v3 u7 ^4 Oorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( X9 n! r& S3 g' w5 g( F! woperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
; I3 s* V! }2 dthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,3 [' L5 m" u5 A, A; |5 V, |9 j
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular' M9 |2 z% Y" X5 T
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is$ X5 V2 n7 d0 S
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
) Q4 I5 a# g( l4 X# q; m9 U: memployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
k2 W: W, \5 j0 j3 I) C9 zstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
4 W6 k' ^$ o4 y; i7 A. ^all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.* Y- ]3 K0 a' f2 M; e7 j# o

, ?# L$ n% F% U( C7 B$ s6 s- o1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the) B! q- @4 {' }) c! ^
officers of the Coalition& e7 d- T7 q. j3 T2 }% O" H# ~ K
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ j, t2 n4 Q& korganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations9 l- t7 T4 f, ]
and public institutions
: O" }6 Z( k/ \' B1 D1 w3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
2 l5 N+ Z" [/ A# C& rfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives8 C; }+ S9 i9 K$ d- j
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
7 O* Q9 M& w% @& Q' Borganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic7 S4 G+ L0 J* z+ z% J+ j4 V: U
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

Administrative responsibilities:$ N( B# H( n+ m! O$ p6 T. s
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its) h2 @+ p ?$ P$ a
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of# l3 ^, z3 R5 o l3 i& C
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the0 z5 e E5 P+ Q5 q0 M# `
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.5 _8 B" b+ s; R3 R
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the# T2 I+ C( j" C0 }. M- N8 d$ X" `& \4 S3 V
Multicultural Coalition
H Y7 F3 l @/ `; PRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board& G' K8 _* ~5 d( Q
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to; q! z2 W6 a" _+ r! k& s
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating% s8 @6 s9 z8 K- \4 W4 N5 b
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility." R1 a0 O2 ^% M$ x
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
- w+ n. c: B$ Z! O0 |* o& naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should8 q+ R6 X S6 `
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership5 V) F A) e* H0 @
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and9 q% V% `- P% |
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of4 K5 {/ g& K5 l' t- _
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 \# y& p: e. ~statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all0 J1 \; U" _; a
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
9 }/ T) }' p% Fdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
3 j% Y! i$ r- z4 cpolicies already adopted2 u- ], R. v0 A% B9 e* N

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
