The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition4 u& V4 o: B) e5 v; z' ]
Roles and Functions
) J0 I. w' G# ]* D/ JThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the3 c, E! ~# r- W6 l4 x1 x
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
) y; L/ `* ?/ @6 F3 P# B/ D- Goperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
2 V7 \1 S5 q- N6 P4 J: C1 o$ f! dthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,- o& q. c2 H1 S7 \/ D+ b
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
, c* {* |3 U+ p) g: x2 ?( \: tboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is' \0 L" T1 f* t, h6 u7 |
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
f3 n& X7 z( ^- Z! ?5 H, wemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires7 N" |$ w) v' }1 C9 O
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) _* b0 z* ]2 ]* P% g8 |6 y/ dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.' X: V. B( d. {. x/ ]& I3 Z: t

Functions and responsibilities:

5 B$ q6 c8 r( P! {$ Q; m' ]( A8 }1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
& s$ M s7 |0 Q' b: Corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
# [% @) G: \2 ~" |4 \0 [8 |and public institutions
1 O! q$ w6 e5 i& O3 B1 U0 I. G3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. k1 u; H+ B: s6 |( f0 l
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
* w |! _3 p) b+ {6 C/ e4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community1 S, a U V/ U( y; h1 ]; C6 _/ A
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic; o0 d8 W+ B) M% r

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:; o. @& s7 z( v( v2 A: G
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its/ h! p, c# J3 r
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
3 m9 M. K! X- l4 V- [ Qdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
2 d, r. s5 O; G& wmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition. e0 U1 i3 |- ~2 Z# L6 ~
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the* c+ J# M T, {* H7 j0 u

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board" ^" c% `- K( [1 Q
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to! S' s4 c. u( }0 @# ?3 D6 {
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- Y7 Y2 L! F$ N# A* Voperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.7 w% A5 N8 P3 ` @) o+ ?4 Z3 F9 m
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 I$ c! l* a1 Q( r8 A
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should8 z- }+ M- K- G# g$ a ~, l- [
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 ^, s! x" _+ \+ T! A$ `7 fparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and6 c% ~2 i9 w5 l; _1 n1 L
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
( t; B3 C: w& v$ \! t4 Idirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
! {: ?, L3 n/ Y, u' wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
/ @2 f! q3 I4 N; d) g3 m rmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of0 x! V. n7 ^" b$ }' f
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of) b9 |1 L1 x ]0 h: B# ?* S7 N8 n5 h

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
