Roles and Functions# V3 ~1 x8 P, J I% C" Z' R
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- P2 w! \" h; _( R: torganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
1 S+ Q0 d2 e- u% Moperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has' q$ P3 x7 @. N) W
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
; |! u$ r: z L, u+ Y6 ^+ b% goperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
8 S7 j; k5 N* i l3 q: dboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is# o! t6 o" F( E% { @
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
{2 F- T' W8 semployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires* z- v; ?- g0 m. C: b6 P
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
7 q! U1 N) }/ U! Y$ n1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the7 N& w: \4 X3 `2 w6 u' g" v1 Z$ l E
officers of the Coalition1 w: U1 T3 M4 t7 l! n
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ f; x7 X+ e/ M$ ^4 ]organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
) ~! r5 P5 f. ~1 B% c9 Rand public institutions
7 T. F8 j: `1 h& I9 s3 S% z( f3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through6 D6 H9 u: C# Q8 b, d) q
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
& y( {$ j2 X1 u1 F" |0 ^( N0 H! e4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
% h) x4 i. b! `7 P, A3 G; sorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with+ j" @+ ]1 x( I P. C& |% c

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community2 A! G. x4 X0 }% G

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically; D" U- M( v; |0 p3 _

" [8 M3 t/ d5 c3 gAdministrative responsibilities:
7 v# M$ k8 {8 ~1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its! |9 Y5 H: i' K% k; F3 E
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of3 y- o E# S! ?9 P8 F
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
5 }4 ]# E4 g& L. Fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 \% f$ G u1 ?1 Y2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the! H' B' x A2 m

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
" I; n" g6 S2 [+ y# ]7 C+ K6 U3 PAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
8 U3 Q& P4 V bimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating% W0 ?5 b5 m! W0 J9 K$ x3 _" m' ]
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 V- c; h0 F: ?( N3 O) V+ B
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and3 P6 T. m3 |: x9 n4 b6 K
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should) u8 n' {5 c8 {4 p k
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
6 I# w$ M+ ^7 g B+ \% B8 ^" M8 B/ ]participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
: N' e9 h# D' ]- S9 d) [facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of1 ^' U6 D W u5 ?- G$ e# T% v* [/ ^
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
' ]* s j! i) Tstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all% a% a! |( |" K+ C4 c* `
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of3 d7 g/ W$ V* \, h& S
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of ]: h# C g8 |$ g
policies already adopted

Pay Range & Terms

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
