The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition7 N0 y, X3 v. n' K+ K
Roles and Functions& h* Q6 i: y2 Y: E7 f% e
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the6 _! X/ s0 p8 B1 A9 q0 K
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
! q7 x! \5 `! p" g6 Uoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has( b2 T$ ?& [2 c. i5 L* s
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
1 M% S% U+ m3 F2 f' ?operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
5 q4 b5 Q$ z5 z3 M7 Nboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is: F* @/ p0 Q, U, H$ ~. o% T
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
0 |/ E- H C6 pemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
. B( q2 f* U4 g1 q- Vstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend$ J$ U# h3 m1 S7 T7 Q
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.; F# I: }9 J% @- \ F4 X

Functions and responsibilities:
% d" ?8 u/ V5 w" M" u3 _The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:9 [8 M4 Y& z/ c) D
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
7 s' r" d7 T& Zofficers of the Coalition
9 N: @- i3 u9 g0 g2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural; ], b8 t# u) t) O- q
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
) q9 D2 P5 X" F6 ^2 Z: _$ iand public institutions3 {5 s' k# z1 ^% o$ t2 @$ }
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
$ W- A7 t1 C* H# P) efunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
( e0 N' j' o, i; @4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community" y" A9 s, c; X" F. I
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with' ^, U3 }# O, ^ x: \

' s- N4 d5 i( j9 l5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community, o1 A* Y \5 B! f' v

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic0 S: i4 l. l1 j8 G
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society0 p0 ?$ {8 q, f
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
" x3 x2 G8 ^' M5 E7 `/ e. Mwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
: K/ R `2 \/ |1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
, _ x& ^: d* v8 T$ X6 qregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of0 H8 Y& Q g( J% Z1 M
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
! [' s [- S8 ^members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
) p: _9 ] A6 _( x2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the' N, d* b% c1 p- x- `2 L

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board1 [0 I9 ? A$ z& @$ |# t7 p% C
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
' G+ m% W6 R6 W* h* ^implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating7 l5 x& r1 U5 H& [8 M' G( @9 v3 t6 d
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.0 [6 f' W, a3 u0 W! H& |
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
2 {0 g3 ^" B( \3 h: v8 j; {aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should, p: h# y) S( S# ]$ `2 B, `8 M& O
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership S& C0 w7 i1 w- ]' ~
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
1 z. m2 ]. ^& L4 a2 S6 H0 Nfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of$ s7 L" c. @) Y& z# @% i+ T9 \
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
" s! F! U$ I# fstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all+ F- S" ^7 O6 w, J- k g1 U
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of! x/ v. L, o, K9 s O+ c
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an5 u+ U, u, f$ u( @5 i" c

8. A diploma or degree in Social Work, the Social Sciences, Public Health, or

Pay Range & Terms
