The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition8 E4 n& n8 T7 C6 l1 c- P0 A
Roles and Functions
+ \* W( \, D8 G8 f6 bThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
' D: {3 r* l; I1 A6 z" Norganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
7 P* w5 l& K5 y1 ? C+ x# ~operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 ?$ ?- j' Q* \# w/ H2 W# Zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 }/ S% L( {3 p; h( i+ H: h4 ^
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
/ Y2 k l" A4 }: z8 Lboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
# D0 g! i9 r- I. iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
) @/ R. F2 ]2 u+ ^9 qemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires7 O# L/ s: E! `- o
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# Q) u, M, H% E( Y+ w4 |* B
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

: M. ?* `: l% q+ \8 o3 Z1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the% _6 C, C; W ]6 j4 d8 i0 b
officers of the Coalition @, T* E& b: y, C( B6 _, ]
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural2 \5 C$ m% B2 b2 B
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( d- Y) }8 r3 }8 c4 t" \
and public institutions
2 `: n5 l( U/ i+ @9 L, Q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through, L/ ~0 ?/ X1 O+ ~% ]" H9 G, E
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives7 b9 P6 g0 A/ T
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

' _- t8 T6 `+ sAdministrative responsibilities:9 h7 E0 i7 T& m3 ^1 o1 x
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its! Z! U' i; I0 \- T' R% y
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
6 r3 j2 g3 ^! v$ Rdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the5 U. y, v7 X0 r! U
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
5 h" }) o Z! M3 @* b6 T2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the+ c0 ]/ p3 p. j: p2 K# I

0 c2 r+ ]: J# z( r4 tRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board% w& q+ X3 N5 V1 c; }
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
& {) B- z6 ]- A( k, qimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
- s4 P, }2 ^! Y' k2 z: roperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
" ]3 E/ [ h' [7 Q8 F) fThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and4 [1 | L# b& _; o3 V8 E: h
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% V1 e0 _2 Y9 O) N2 d O: K: Jbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
+ E0 f7 E- _- Bparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and" l, a7 f; _5 V7 v! N
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
% K6 j9 o( e+ u9 K. O# gdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial8 \9 _( ?1 h, N* S. a
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 g0 ?3 y( V& X) X, Umatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) A: ]6 D; H: Y6 f8 pdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
