The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
& V0 r4 R2 O+ |4 X e& V8 K8 jRoles and Functions' p; a2 M/ X# [5 J! Y* f) p
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
4 ^# B0 ?6 G& ^+ _9 ?organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the. J; f: D. |% h2 i( r6 k' G; i3 z
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has/ Z6 Y, q( Y+ j& w, _! T
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
5 m, T% I6 s0 ooperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular8 f- \# q: [+ h) Z H" Q$ e
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
8 k3 o9 g( K1 {* s- Qconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an3 t! n. Q1 I( c2 ~- e4 {6 d! e
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires. F" \' Y. h+ Z5 P( P4 ?, x
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend+ D/ s: M5 V! C a' C
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

A' w/ q |& U c, p7 ?) g1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the" \" P! V& p9 r6 }; T
officers of the Coalition
8 R9 T9 T9 A2 ~, |6 Y2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
8 B+ O; g2 D# l0 a7 d: Q9 Sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, q$ o0 e$ c4 ]1 S1 p( ]7 gand public institutions
3 Q/ b" t* Y+ @4 |) o3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through- A+ t2 @7 V' d6 x
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
5 U r3 r5 p( l# e4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
, M5 W- P( k1 S9 l3 ?organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& D; u+ M1 `; Y; a, m" f

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

diverse backgrounds

+ q# L' p- q/ V u+ S$ {! cAdministrative responsibilities:
6 M: O" j( }' O! y Y V# {! k1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
6 z8 P+ n( p6 Rregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
) F( \3 y, m! [9 e, Xdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
% K' o4 F1 Y! b. s5 {9 u$ o5 jmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.+ W' h1 U9 h- j' g
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
1 q" v( T. w1 x' [Multicultural Coalition/ }. p8 U/ S _' w
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
8 E- n) _8 b- v) Z f0 ]All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
2 a8 o' F d+ J! W# cimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
: I+ N- s' a4 q) Toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.9 ^# [- G" S7 ~0 o& L
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
+ p1 {/ z0 b. Z% z9 f1 V* b5 t2 Taims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
" K0 ]: C6 d. ~' A: Zbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership/ U& B) v T c5 w; J; u8 r$ I
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& U, h" ~: I1 C* o/ rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of0 m# A# l5 ?! Z: X9 T5 G, G x
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
' G$ d0 U! ^0 B3 F8 ^" bstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
1 D1 I0 A& H4 I- c C, z4 ?matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of7 b- o& R, d S
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: P; s; X- M/ _
