Roles and Functions
: N5 q; U# y) B! Q# ^' W6 U: QThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the& o6 D: E2 o9 q
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the* P( F8 A4 X5 } A0 j- H2 H! u9 T
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has# M( F# m9 Q! c8 ~0 E I5 @
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
% u; X. o7 k( z$ G& f8 f8 f0 N6 R' R, y8 roperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular# M7 V8 H) X8 `/ g
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
- C" z% S5 t& S" p. h0 aconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
8 b0 o0 ]6 U% K: Z" Vemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# ^3 r% U) O. Istaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend4 M# q3 A* d9 @ |: W# {6 N
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.6 u0 a. b4 R5 b, ]% O f1 c
. w E7 f9 s7 E* e+ `9 d& uFunctions and responsibilities:

9 {% Q4 A1 R1 N1 o4 w4 e9 h. h. \1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 W4 j# {9 A8 A4 h9 g, U
officers of the Coalition. t2 c8 j# O5 h& z, r/ P
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% N6 I. h1 F* P* j
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
0 }3 |" Y" b7 y$ x, n$ Yand public institutions
0 J) r# n" U; ?3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
* e' w; I" f' H8 Y/ e1 D7 Lfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; b) j( a. h1 w* k1 F; L6 n2 W
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 Z, |4 j8 G0 X8 w0 n- ?% h" p
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
% _0 t, W, ? Ywith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically8 Z( B% `7 p8 N& e1 l
diverse backgrounds

, L7 x0 N' j! \& L LAdministrative responsibilities:- G3 f: m9 W- X' Z+ l5 \ V9 K6 p
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
0 S1 [4 ~" N! H2 v; eregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of6 S! m" p' O {9 D/ |0 y% ~
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the# [: B, @! R( K n8 U% C( ?9 H
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
1 ~7 W- F0 P/ s( ?2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the9 d% h; ^" `7 _5 l

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board$ ?8 k7 e( L0 i# n$ N
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to0 h; @! F* _( N
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" C: v- U5 k) ~, x7 d1 I& G$ A7 u8 Ooperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
( L: N+ D. }) jThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and6 B# C' o' T$ m! Z. Y" m, Q
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should/ S" P; c3 l7 w
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership" | K2 @3 F/ e/ D5 ^
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
/ o K, m' c+ `# l! @7 M! w [facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of" c! m# S: P" j( Z: [( N
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
. y1 E3 S" P8 }$ T7 I0 d/ F3 Rstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all6 f8 [; L) n7 k3 Y6 Z% B
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' j( C2 S5 t+ S8 H) v ?2 P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
