) {6 D3 s+ r# x' u" K* YRoles and Functions
' c( G1 D' w* F" X$ VThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
* c. m5 V, W; X/ M" |& qorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the5 I9 F! C4 d$ Z: v& j- s
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
* w5 t6 {8 V' c6 S! J: ?# Wthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
! Q1 }9 D6 y' M& T% Y$ R/ f/ zoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular# P2 c: A5 P3 X2 Q1 ?; H2 C y( ~. p
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
( S; W D3 T: {2 v2 e5 jconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an7 [( s! S* N: p% |0 I% e
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires3 N3 e+ S1 X9 S7 O
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend% p- W# r# | i5 {3 H, \5 D. a- }
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.2 j. C% R; ?3 I3 N v7 d& p' h3 l- X
+ O* _" _; b: _. P3 SFunctions and responsibilities:
/ s& o; u4 g. w* mThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
3 [2 t5 G6 v% @1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
6 I! i$ s( `* J& A: ?organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
* z4 [$ z! r9 r, Sand public institutions
! g* X4 [+ M; I. p3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through" G+ Y0 }4 q! m
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives6 M* q& _0 O7 l7 n
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community3 ?6 Y* o# u" P% z- F
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
# J5 _* n" m$ B" L, E; jthese organizations
# i0 f c1 E; d5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community8 v# f5 I: ?6 R

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic4 k' u/ u* \: x+ U& N- H* t/ p2 X
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society, K8 L, @/ I" v( d. M
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
$ ?$ \5 E& m5 t, Ywith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
% D8 N& x- S2 e+ v3 ediverse backgrounds. t1 {9 \, g- J. f7 J
* w: `; B% E3 [* K3 mAdministrative responsibilities:
& @% c! \0 M& `+ M1 y1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
/ C. P, c* \0 x2 a( I3 }) i8 ] [regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
# f6 h9 R D; Z, A: Z+ P, jdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the" z0 o, z" K/ s. R- q9 B
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
4 D5 L6 D; T' w2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
2 O9 F$ P5 m% L" X+ sMulticultural Coalition- e/ [) N. S) k0 O q# `
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board+ H5 d. f7 ~# K2 G% d9 h0 |6 m
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
5 z) k+ D1 Z9 f$ D3 S" e: }" Mimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) r+ J$ M0 Q" r' Ioperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. g2 k8 B( \+ v* Z
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
- u' a1 h* A H* Y7 Gaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
/ o4 m7 e( y# \be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
$ E/ U* Z7 l d, L3 Q7 c' Bparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
' o$ ], X" O, E4 V4 zfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of/ }& w9 N Z/ e8 z' I
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
* o. X" T m& v+ rstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all4 V, ~- P! \1 v, c9 f4 Z$ m
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
- q& R/ S# _7 W: N8 f# W0 s. L7 Qdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
