5 l4 l3 [' w/ N9 T6 jThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
1 y d% g6 w& T I# t8 T$ WRoles and Functions+ @' d. D: D" n: X
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; T) v0 D+ {- j' A1 Y: D% Morganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( ?5 K" r6 X& e5 V" Ioperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 {( \& V* {$ a6 ]6 zthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,* g1 k" z( U6 W( n2 K
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) t3 H% F) N7 L; Pboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
1 L9 C$ ^0 M2 ^1 [6 iconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
7 N* @% \: l* vemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
) M6 M4 J. ?; o7 ^staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
) j l; T8 l- w0 Y6 O) s( x/ zall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
- o6 F, o! D/ N G6 R# a) W1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the* H6 ]6 P$ S7 o- r
officers of the Coalition
0 h3 u* z4 s: q" C k! {4 ]2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
( r8 L' N/ `. R0 ~3 morganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 h' K- e- P% L+ Fand public institutions- k6 N' ~$ E1 m3 y+ W
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through) p) F8 P0 k$ n8 e# B, @3 v# Z
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 \7 [' k, X7 J+ ~! L' u" H
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
' p" k8 p$ u/ Iorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

7 P. V, e0 Z7 S; e, zAdministrative responsibilities:" U0 y/ X8 I- G7 E) h5 M
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its) U* E$ \9 R* t6 f# i# k: l
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of4 g+ {' ~% j3 q5 `8 i, i: f. g# M
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
7 t* c" b2 N- s$ r0 A) U3 I3 g/ Fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
' p- ] `4 y; ~( _2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the) f( F8 {; Y- d+ t7 q5 V

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
$ t6 B3 \8 w7 u' FAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
# [1 T h0 `& Y- iimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
& Y6 a) J+ a# Z X7 L# ]. goperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.3 f6 S- G/ X! ^1 ~$ d6 }
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and& X) B) T G# g; t* ]" W
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should0 k! e% P; R4 ~: h/ F6 V
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
& y+ E: S/ n0 A' y6 q$ y' Nparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and1 v* P; U% c4 [8 \+ ]3 [
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of. a( X* J0 r8 y4 f! [
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 W- w! X/ v: K1 `statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
- o1 F* W1 y6 E* e9 ]; ymatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
5 N6 E7 j7 u; M7 W+ k1 zdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
