The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
4 S3 h8 r3 D& e. S4 {* dRoles and Functions3 o; |: Z' @/ [$ `
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the6 l6 l1 `- P f4 C9 o
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
5 k' Q6 _7 k9 }1 Ooperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 K7 p, }( k: j8 I! f$ Ethe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 s& `; O8 C$ I
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
9 c6 \% b5 g' ]$ v" A- {5 Hboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
6 ~% V; a0 `3 ^/ f1 Q" {+ e& Tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
. O1 l- d$ ^; ^4 D9 [6 m3 [. iemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 T x3 ~9 `6 V1 }% ^
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend/ \! v' c7 v u4 S" D
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
; p4 y2 ~/ `! S* ]6 F" ~1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
6 L3 u- f F3 |, u% @+ A. Rofficers of the Coalition7 L2 B3 j( H% S' Y. z
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural1 q! O& ?. F* z6 i+ T( O9 i
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
) v' Y; j, }% C# _# K/ _$ R9 tand public institutions$ H& [. c& E5 l, Z
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
8 m. c' N, X6 @; L* A" e& bfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
: }( v* \% H, [- @4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. j8 C6 Z. Z9 v: m) P. A6 Xorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

, X1 J3 i5 r' |2 `Administrative responsibilities:
" X2 N" ]/ F8 q+ K# [4 X/ ]1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
* g3 I$ [. R/ j5 w0 q8 g7 `" Wregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of$ {. [$ M j6 a& ?
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, X6 K& U2 ]6 p) C! Z' @
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
/ Q+ B& R' k7 ~+ H. c$ I2 z2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. j/ S' U4 |/ [7 E0 j

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
( V/ K, y5 J# ?6 u- I8 LAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to5 v) ^: U+ q/ u$ `6 k5 x! ?4 ] f/ A- C8 i
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 d" r5 t' D9 [, ?4 G- E; Doperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
6 }* K8 Z( ~ l7 {# D* @The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and, s6 Z$ ^/ I; W( o
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should4 {/ C/ n$ k# J4 Z3 \$ @0 c
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership8 c I" f+ H" f3 I8 S+ D* K0 G
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
4 T- A! s# T6 K; Rfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of5 _% d0 J* f. U4 E7 p5 x
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 n( Y2 I; m3 X+ Y0 i, `' Hstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all0 A2 t$ O% F8 I. Q R
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
8 ?+ j" x, M( |directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of7 P: d+ z/ b4 s' C3 l
policies already adopted

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
