The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition* F% e) q- `1 `9 ~1 W: @- @) @
Roles and Functions. e0 @. |* U, q/ P5 ?+ e9 O* r
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
% C3 V7 l2 n7 f. w" @organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the" r( _" \& k: G) B
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
' P. L* N# r% p# @0 }the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
, `( B: |4 X8 e& _( xoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular# P% {9 v2 J% t1 h; V
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
( a) V8 Z, g0 u0 [( Y" r6 lconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an5 {! r* u$ b! B8 ?: X; u
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
1 ~% f- a. Z) X- N4 @7 sstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
. P/ u! o. [' V- r# b" eall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

- F& |; } k& ^; GFunctions and responsibilities:
+ }" c* Z) r9 L& {0 N% gThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:: ]# S k5 L z: @! p; e
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the+ A) L7 d$ r/ [# ~6 c
officers of the Coalition
# B$ F4 Y* j3 [' o9 e& `2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural# n! n) ~( C1 ?/ K) J
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations, e$ r, z9 D, c0 V% m
and public institutions
5 F7 k* D: K4 D3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
0 ^3 J _8 Q$ Q4 T2 w, Q9 Ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; Y, F, f2 M5 L5 T! r
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community8 M0 Z3 v! J# a. A
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community5 y9 R* x/ E" q- `9 \4 q

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
! L* Q7 k3 {% ~" {0 Q0 \participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
7 y% L% i. g O! A7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
1 p- T4 c, f9 Q$ x/ hwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

1 z- H; v, Y X# u* fAdministrative responsibilities:% u; B3 v) C# ?4 S0 V8 z' }
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its6 @+ J$ O: G! e: W- u! \
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
! T4 Z# U$ z; S. @directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# d$ w# Q7 Q7 {; Pmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
4 J$ {* d+ W0 \7 J" u# d2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the, x0 X9 E, k( q6 `6 y8 ]

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 }+ k. C& b8 J" n4 i. c% `. q# o
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 o) ]2 ?, n8 J) U/ }& Gimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
9 a( G6 o3 ~$ y' A) k$ Toperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.; G, d% d' V' F: e+ V' r; a
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and8 I8 k3 Z6 s+ |+ ?1 k% |9 C
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
7 ]0 J) k8 h, E% \7 x1 n1 Wbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership$ q* q$ H5 l! e1 W9 P7 x }
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and% L& ?* ~% A1 R; e9 ~5 p2 j. y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of% h% K) `7 j* h2 y+ ?; ]
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial* Y4 W8 }! v7 m v- u0 z) n U
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all# P8 `7 L) J. B- z- }$ _/ g) m$ H3 @
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
' k7 @6 P' m) \ g9 K8 Z, _& A5 w* Bdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

Pay Range & Terms
