2 W" _- k; I: [" k/ X3 QRoles and Functions& z- E" p& T9 k- A
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
b1 z3 ?& ^( Q: _ Horganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
9 `- [+ h# U( ~2 noperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has3 Y6 B3 e( [! r
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
# P( } D) P+ P7 {+ c& Voperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular5 J( O! `& W, N
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
, T7 e& s, [0 d0 H1 V6 [$ w( Jconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
) t. ^1 D0 w9 S! g- @employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
# ^) m; T0 R; c1 b. Lstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend( p% b: q. I$ Z7 w5 n! y+ l
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.+ T6 Z3 B; D& W) |2 j `: Q" T
2 z, i* B0 u6 V" bFunctions and responsibilities:
! t( } q" I" E8 ]0 g$ N- GThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:3 }) z. `8 z: i' `1 `" t7 P& Y
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
" K$ F8 z- |4 a2 y6 h: Nofficers of the Coalition% B9 R( O. {, i8 Q, K
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
2 V" b7 j! c) Z- t3 Q8 c4 X& m( z: xorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
9 H$ m' E$ O# k* ]0 U8 Land public institutions/ j& X3 K* ]8 ~7 \% v( B
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& e7 j& s$ V$ p: J# o4 Sfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
. J8 }' ]8 ], N A) b4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
. p1 x6 v5 F5 z+ u' Morganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
* g9 ], N2 z$ T; qthese organizations! U/ x& W6 i$ i5 x O) K
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community
7 _: B% R% i( u. p- E1 E( ?9 cleaders* H: U5 l% h; m b$ d* m
6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic% c @3 {& x+ ~7 \3 t+ L# b
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society( F! s+ v$ X" V( ^' X" z0 o' T
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working5 _7 L0 R$ P* ~* a' i8 R" ^
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically d! S1 n' }5 H/ R- ]2 i5 F0 p% q
diverse backgrounds% N6 O. W7 ~2 h0 u
& ^$ F$ `0 F$ S. j" S n$ EAdministrative responsibilities:& V9 ]/ X, i1 T
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its& }5 ~1 g/ d, l' P' Z
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
& p; w. [( K& A6 \( r- z5 t k' w: gdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
6 G9 T! K8 o& `% _* _! Gmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
8 t1 t8 X& \8 X j9 R, f: ^& t2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. H7 y$ @5 `+ U) ?

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to- D! D. p. `% H( F
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
) F* i+ F- P2 R$ o" s4 ioperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
- O* K! Q4 L: S' @/ x( PThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and7 X. _) j4 d9 g3 U
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should5 M9 j* a2 S, Z4 s8 k
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership: I. `" R, y# O. g6 V) _, ?9 P
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
. _# ?0 R0 a r7 z4 O( vfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
3 ?1 }, o: ~( n5 b' Fdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial# |3 B, n; x9 G- ~- Z) m, z* P7 ^
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
# ]6 J# s3 c4 g s, bmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: N% R1 v7 `4 O% D) [
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of( g% f2 R" _4 J1 L

of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates

9. A minimum of 2 years experience in project management at the
