The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. {- r9 ]2 R7 f7 T z" O5 W* j
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the4 g" y3 e4 K2 F7 j/ s3 \ Y! `( a
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has4 j9 r8 P& k }+ A, w
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,0 O" ?- [1 V9 C o9 F0 w7 |4 X. Q; {% h
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
9 O6 z% w6 Q- ~2 v" W) T% j' Qboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is. @' ^3 a- k: ?
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: x! Z% K3 p. C5 {) l( e8 B
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires; Q4 R1 |# U) H* R. \' a2 `; M( |
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# u1 C6 K! e6 o3 x6 J8 z/ Fall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

3 H0 r1 d4 l h' ?1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the* f7 `$ h: c c
officers of the Coalition
- Y* K' K2 p4 b/ m7 P6 p' t z% ?2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
@4 V% w; i6 B9 Aorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations/ o! S: p; \: g1 J* L! d+ f
and public institutions, s- V$ y% z; {1 F1 v ?
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
5 K7 m5 X5 L+ B8 ]& U: p P! Ufunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
$ L5 l" p! y6 K; M) E4 T. x' ~' ~4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community6 n1 E! _% r, ?' m( ?
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community7 O2 Y8 p/ t' X7 L" h; i

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

) q- {+ w- S4 G$ P4 lAdministrative responsibilities:7 ]1 F! U2 G. B4 ~3 m5 L+ A
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- X8 f& I% e+ h4 i! z1 X
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of- i& R6 O' j* X z* W
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the. |& \9 z) _' \
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.2 ^8 g ^& o- Q" x+ J& l+ p
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the0 M" k$ t) L& c$ n+ |

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to9 K8 P" V8 b. q% p
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating) D- c }! a9 d/ z
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.9 h7 H/ P1 ]- x8 C* e
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and2 S7 v3 H7 o4 {9 |
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
7 Z7 E4 ^ f5 O3 h5 D' A8 Abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership) d9 t" {' Y. S' r% R0 N" T
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
, ]% D& B6 U7 N, A$ |2 A3 N. kfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
: e/ o6 n, ^, f. Q. L! mdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
/ {' o0 z5 m$ u! qstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all7 c4 ]& Y- d+ ^0 p( [
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: |: u( {; `: U. t
