Roles and Functions- [/ s- ^( K2 u( |$ `4 ~
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the, [7 o# n2 y& r* N n
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
0 I6 d: f" R2 x# z% `! G' {operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
' ^$ @6 \3 K3 ^the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
# v* `3 z1 h3 k j1 woperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
3 G8 |. W( ~3 E% ~! T: }board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is+ W$ Q' ^, I$ h7 B$ Q6 V
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
; s4 H/ |* `# H" H; {+ r2 Xemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ `, ^& I: v# L: z9 Z8 W2 T4 z( Bstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend: {0 p: E+ c6 l# X f) c1 W3 X
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.! a- |( g: O. s7 b5 P
& e: _% H) r( m0 OFunctions and responsibilities:
) w7 M }0 F4 JThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
1 i. \0 X" R+ {1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the8 ]0 n2 C! U% M8 T) E# C$ }+ K2 M1 D
officers of the Coalition' S4 U8 t' i. U6 s- ~
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
. y7 F$ x/ k9 q) ^9 G/ d. D+ J2 J' L4 Sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
7 y- O7 t- o% Jand public institutions; e& j. s3 n0 a
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through9 Y9 _' L/ ~& x; K
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives: S* N/ A9 L1 f: c% a1 B1 r
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community8 R5 B3 t9 Q3 J" ?5 p
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with. {" Q6 ~" K/ ^8 q& n

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

% W* D3 ` @8 Jparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically3 _; j; Z& F3 l8 P1 d g
diverse backgrounds3 p6 `# B$ }7 _

Administrative responsibilities:0 L" y3 i8 O1 h' j
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
0 Z7 C6 ]+ F: q. L& X3 Oregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of# Y. w8 n5 p3 ^9 S1 g/ _
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
+ D% t5 ^3 l; f# Amembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 y5 I; j$ |; [! f
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" F% o+ D' |% H8 JMulticultural Coalition
+ m' L1 j* q6 HRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board9 Y* J$ P" H% Y
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
5 m! Y/ i6 T2 r6 X- N+ Bimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
8 `( d ^* z8 U0 t" o" Poperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
; Y1 e. p+ P1 fThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and% g% ]& ]4 U8 ?1 K; F
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should6 Y& ~* P3 }5 t- J; t
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
& g4 I" w j; rparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and) ~+ T& l9 d" S' h
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of2 F1 G2 l6 G6 w' `
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial+ ]. K# _$ P( l8 p9 L2 K
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all" c2 Z9 O, L& a. ]; I. |1 Y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
! G1 y: N+ d& g( O# N2 Sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

community level

Pay Range & Terms
