The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition: e0 r0 T F; N" S( o# v
Roles and Functions2 ]4 \8 D* P8 G9 R
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
# ~% Q+ B7 D: N9 P% X5 L& ~/ qorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
/ z6 ?9 N) d7 l( c& loperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has" F' ~1 K) k- j! f9 g$ l
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
- [3 r* I/ t0 ]3 n0 P0 ~operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
& o M* u1 Y& ~, r, r( X% r/ `board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
* [ `9 }% l3 tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an; p2 c) i* s8 K' x1 x% Y% ^( n* L
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
$ o m% P6 m5 b* A1 Z! Rstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ c0 X0 `; U# A# o- y! Qall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:$ u+ f0 F* N1 s' b* [1 `7 Y
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
; ]/ L. v+ J6 {# Sofficers of the Coalition
: G4 H6 A5 D" s/ g) b9 r2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
9 f3 E V' O$ M8 ?organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
! S! n; P0 N: _7 W c* D' D1 r7 Nand public institutions% W/ A% F5 @9 o; r
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
0 m' ]+ ~" b/ n4 N" h0 tfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
, @; F+ ] Z8 S* n- f4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
; q7 Z( l' b1 O% ?( Z3 e. g% T+ horganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with6 Z: s* d* ~+ c3 J, A% N

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
: G9 B! O- f9 l( Qparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society: K, D, w* v( [4 G
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
+ D# L/ |5 \5 B* O& n! c; Qwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
: B0 f" {0 N2 o# D0 d+ Xdiverse backgrounds

Administrative responsibilities: t3 C n' V3 I" J( R
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its% a* R# _* n D: w9 t$ o0 M* A3 J
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of1 L0 L/ l5 i! W5 R7 c% ?
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
3 `* d; c% \5 `) i. _# jmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
* {" j. C. J0 h- H' U- }2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

7 T" m( T/ e b3 V) c& ^# zRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board! i# o/ @) C1 \. s5 w& j# Z/ P
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
- L5 A$ S' {; [; j3 w! T6 fimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating1 i7 I. i; Z3 m2 H, N; f
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
+ N. f4 [4 N* Y uThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
6 W5 ]1 K: J# k+ [7 m5 ]aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
* q! S# ~+ _4 c) ?be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership8 m( \4 r0 v- I% w& O+ B# I9 {' q
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and$ K8 p# w$ ^1 S
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
8 b+ a/ J6 d" Q1 M7 l5 c5 Edirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial" ]8 B$ I& @! B
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all1 Z( o- P& q* w, ?7 k' V! v
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of0 D" S% I" V( i1 x# D) ]
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of4 a! j3 x8 ]- t) i6 Y2 ~$ C+ I; S! q
policies already adopted( j& s/ h5 n7 \$ ~9 I6 B6 U

2. Leadership and critical thinking skills to bridge the needs and struggles( c3 h5 S5 x( Y( z) Z6 Y ^
of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests and mandates+ C6 |1 k* e4 ~, b
of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers% p4 l8 O& P: m/ E* ]1 R
3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding% k6 n( x. S F

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and O9 ^: C% ]2 C& U) ~

5. Facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops an

any related field is desired

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power
