. C: A# k4 p& kRoles and Functions
7 c8 [$ P0 [! {9 UThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
& A h$ A6 V% B: w4 Z' iorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
( M+ ~9 c v/ B3 w4 B8 joperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has) h- Z. c! b& l; b0 {' {4 y6 o; [- t) S/ Z' e
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
/ E3 f4 ? u& Poperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
. a0 A: x, J8 F" cboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is0 C" B/ ?5 a" Q$ B
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 w' Q, }7 l- B1 K: w
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires; `( ` J7 t9 N: k* y( ~+ }
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
# L5 Y# N6 s, [1 ?! \all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.) J3 Z* B7 v; g' B, ?( Z

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:% w5 ]5 v( x5 U0 t% o$ N" w
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the' S, E2 j7 k2 c Z
officers of the Coalition
5 L$ t% X+ E, t/ o j @3 n2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural' u* ^; K8 ?5 h3 l) c2 R( R0 d+ I
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
. M# z+ S( T3 T) P. p( X- c; Xand public institutions6 \# {% r+ m$ C# i7 W6 a
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
. @0 i, ^4 _, g4 Ofunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives8 `; p9 z( M5 S) _
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
; c. \) t' l9 ^7 lorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community8 y* S& a3 B+ B) a

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic ~" g9 [9 C6 d
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society
' ^* s# y6 n% x7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working, G) g5 C! i4 y+ I
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically8 i. D( a$ ?) C

Administrative responsibilities:
) n0 u1 n6 W( I1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its/ w( D: O' x1 T N* K7 G
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of' U6 J. l3 d3 U. T
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the' C; e. ~/ U0 L2 E& X" g
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
0 s, k* n) }: _$ B: X2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
2 v: u9 L+ b9 M( }3 \. DMulticultural Coalition
8 q7 R% c% H' ?/ V. B" fRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
. `5 c0 y3 D7 v7 JAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
, x6 B3 K. p, O- Z/ ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating! E& r) Y+ k$ S! m0 J
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
0 k3 Z; W# r! O1 FThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and4 H8 F$ w2 G1 [4 A o& j% g: G2 a& D
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should; S; ~% Z, q, N4 P: U. X8 G! `6 x
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 y. }% t' R% |( A$ i- s
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
- j4 f* R- v7 ?& R7 Ufacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 T. R. v7 }0 ^9 [ ^# d2 a4 Pdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial0 I: U5 f+ G4 H- k1 e2 p
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all ^- ^: o v/ `) c
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
) |! n# s" b9 A, ldirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
