The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
$ ~5 [0 _3 ]' @Roles and Functions( k" M5 s4 R4 `3 p
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the! B! s. K, z: o6 _- p6 v C; u
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
" |# a) A/ i2 e6 f! i, F# qoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
) B0 N2 e8 F1 z8 Pthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,8 Y7 I% T# k9 J
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
8 B% K {; U, _ Iboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
8 m2 q5 h* \7 N! \conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an( O: {8 Y4 l! H1 j# K
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
/ y7 Y# k! ^# w0 f. ~: N3 C" b4 qstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ i( U5 r) X, [! U$ \$ o- n9 wall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant./ y: e9 C5 a$ E( ] x- k
/ U$ B. R, \% b" X1 IFunctions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the# C7 `" I5 Q$ ^) a! b/ n
officers of the Coalition/ x; m' R. B" g! ]- e( E
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural* G" V# c/ l! m5 w# ~+ L* k
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations" Q$ q. X) _5 O0 B( s% D( Z
and public institutions
, {- X* t8 C; _4 o0 t, ^: U3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through9 [" j9 C6 _% e, v- C
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
/ o$ B7 ~% i2 S! t, ?; H, p4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
+ w' @' p$ @0 v f3 x% Z2 corganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic9 C+ ]7 Q& A, a6 ^6 I3 ?0 X" W
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

6 A' |5 s3 c( z; `- p) B+ ?: i1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, p, {+ I7 @, x
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
3 z' L" i% v* vdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
$ m% Q2 L3 U. K u) Cmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.. y& P( l* l% b c
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 e* |9 U a& V5 o

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
5 J, v& _: U- U4 R' M GAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
& h5 [% x% M7 \+ [ D. v% ~implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
+ V* o- o m) Soperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
& ]& ]2 l9 W2 _; @. yThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
7 R/ q/ ?, v$ z }2 Xaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
) N2 b3 p/ m x7 x6 ]1 Ube noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership0 j( b6 M5 d3 }
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and7 l; j( J0 j" }% o& d2 q9 ^0 Q# \0 g
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
# z& S) M" X1 p3 C! ]directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
% r1 e2 K- L- x0 ^! j3 \; K7 Astatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all0 E' O6 m ?7 i9 x+ L
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
. W' a7 ^- v+ O% C# ~directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of- X, }2 J& ~& N" C# ~
policies already adopted8 ?% A# b6 J6 {8 n0 a* ^; ]

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
