Roles and Functions
1 C; Y- ?& W' G2 s+ y! A# E4 Z/ f6 WThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the. m$ q; R# B* ~: R
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the4 D* T+ e/ M% Q: u6 v5 Y8 Q! W! p
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
5 x; Z# u4 n9 E$ F, u Hthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,7 |8 l5 Q& w/ i8 A) N5 A3 M8 K/ _% P
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular a, j$ c* C" y# W1 I' g3 P& m- M! u
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is: v& s3 ~8 q+ Z3 l* m
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an8 l2 V+ K, K8 A1 ?. c' e
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires& [/ ]/ A, ]) ]7 s0 a
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend4 Y4 A* j. t! `5 @% o
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:3 ?5 Q. o4 m4 I( v! L
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:- N" J$ u# x# U$ f) \. n, i2 a$ ?
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
4 S* l* I5 M; t( H7 }4 q7 U4 Oofficers of the Coalition
7 ]$ v* S* K7 g! \: ]3 J- Y. G2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
5 S& T6 [# n* T. H/ \% Sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 D! a& U( {- ~- ~
and public institutions) b' U. I, c' e! R& p8 `
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% ?) W2 H" L$ I9 {" J: a
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives4 H& l' L5 w `' e; K
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community: l, X a8 [% V) [0 z
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with0 W* f9 s0 r* G1 t9 n

diverse backgrounds

: K! Y% N+ o5 g3 p0 y/ a& P+ {( r1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 W8 e) D0 _1 ]( T; B; Q# P. }" Nregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of; I0 I, Y0 e# I9 w7 f |7 [- p. {
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the2 i% S5 ]4 d: d4 U* ]
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
, k- m# ^( ~! K- y( p# t2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the" [, c6 Y; {: D7 w* b

All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
' J2 @/ _, E4 Y( U& Jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
, o7 T* X$ h8 R4 G% ?# J$ [operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.5 J }% _+ z1 T8 j! W# X
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and) v, e& l% i! h& ?+ D( w
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
: [2 x. C2 Y0 g3 w* tbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: r P4 I( [9 r/ `, m: Y8 d. W* l' [participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
/ M* C( |& y# }, ]" k1 c+ D; w# sfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
. r- o, k4 F4 E0 K5 P2 u( Vdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial; N1 ]4 c$ y+ V, |
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
. s& X5 e8 {- G* m7 \2 Mmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of, ]; P' L) Z/ v8 }1 S
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of. |9 I7 }% Q+ [
policies already adopted
