' I6 D4 U: d4 g& tThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition% F# X/ f: ~7 i7 N& t/ O* |" ]/ |. ?
Roles and Functions: _: k8 S! s8 L/ C
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the+ ?* a8 F! G3 I4 \
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the4 a' x5 [5 s+ |+ ^2 j! F
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
3 G/ Z2 K% t0 a# tthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,1 j& h9 N+ I' W3 L+ ?
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular6 A# h5 F8 j, _% N1 _4 y
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
" ]- v5 [! o/ ]( g$ Aconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an2 Y8 Q' H7 p9 `) w! ^! m/ h7 F# z
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires8 f/ R3 T9 j4 ^9 L C4 z
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' u8 a8 H8 |$ A9 ]; O8 p
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.! K4 `0 j, }4 G% E; x; q3 D- K5 M

Functions and responsibilities: t. x7 b% q! @3 r
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
/ t! j7 C7 k0 ], T9 @6 ]1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the5 h1 W9 H2 U& `7 U
officers of the Coalition
# h. D0 L! r, E2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
/ g6 @; w- j# |! K1 U- ~organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( y' Y8 h- ?: v* L) L$ W
and public institutions
$ f q; ~, V9 q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through% d! V" `' \* A# c
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives: m% K+ S" \ @2 V! g
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community* D' e% w" v; @1 F3 @" ^* }6 e
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community# m8 M7 T$ X7 W. V9 R7 g
leaders

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
* V& E" P6 h% l T8 ewith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically
/ E- H T: D5 n0 W9 _+ }# X2 Odiverse backgrounds, l: h2 L3 p8 ]$ ~$ K' Q
\5 p/ s; a# T/ YAdministrative responsibilities:; R0 `' z( {+ {$ q$ g5 z, h; ~- \
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its }( e( G& L+ l/ R v2 A
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
, ^! q" H2 A1 m% Z% m0 q+ N5 Udirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the- o+ [0 |$ S3 g; i- Y4 u
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
! y+ ~ @- z$ f2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 o9 H6 u) m% l% C7 ^

* d' m; ]/ f Z$ }) `; P) _All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to$ |$ l: R' [ G' G/ |2 d
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating* Y3 e6 c( J) N& _0 M
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.2 Z+ d8 z6 A9 A" f2 ~, S
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
- }9 \; j4 X7 Waims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
9 q0 b; G7 H. U! ^1 J5 Obe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
( ]( |1 ?1 T& |participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and! \! M6 w' v+ ]( l% S7 _5 `- o. G9 `. Q' q
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
5 E% l& N7 S- J; Gdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
3 O4 k; N- a; I' o1 _' X5 estatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
* T( {# a- ?$ r; K9 r1 }matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
+ B2 P( X7 Q/ [. x+ q/ J. o: t2 ?directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
