The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
. d k2 V- b8 x) E7 ]1 h0 WRoles and Functions. e, K2 G% h( D0 K# h
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the1 B2 g( p8 W$ a( c; S5 z
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the2 E" H, a# y+ I) _1 }2 h
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
# f) K5 v' C+ b3 Ythe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 ? E; X; A+ U" f6 F
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
+ P r8 U: y' N% L: p+ _6 jboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is a( F. ]" |* U7 H; ~" p) C
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an0 q+ W7 P+ ?( K) ~0 w( L! A
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
4 Q T" ]4 F- L/ I: X7 L7 \staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 M7 s3 a7 F8 \4 }9 g+ ?; h8 g4 ^
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

3 S C4 h! O+ \/ F$ L1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the3 H. @, t- ^: }# ?
officers of the Coalition( Z3 s! l9 a% h0 o/ d
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural6 p# Y( H/ \. @6 x* x
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations; M( a% k# T' n" a; h* Y
and public institutions
2 Y. o" g' m$ L" @- F" ^3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through. v7 v. G- J3 g! x- o
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives- Q) p+ _; T+ {, R
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
: T0 t5 G; o$ U0 H; l4 Dregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of7 `2 M) \0 x$ q5 {# o, M
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the4 S5 H4 r( V; O# n
members of the Coalition’s financial condition./ |: e: I# F) }8 h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
# }* Z5 J- f& M- JAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
" V# x& c) J- s- t: o1 V# Vimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ o: u' r4 k0 N" F! J" Eoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.. F8 ^+ L. r' P9 Q/ L6 E- Z0 o- z Y
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and5 ?/ S' F* L% u
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
" o) C; k Y& D& vbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership! w ^ S) b9 I6 _# n) ^; P
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and% X' D. h# O- ~% K l3 O7 l& y
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of; O' B; S) o/ I; X% a7 ?9 x# H
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
& d2 e& q D1 c8 wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all, W3 j9 Z- L; c+ j
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' V+ q6 f s3 N6 }. A% q
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of. z# h9 q0 \1 F
