Roles and Functions& R7 @" G/ W+ E$ i4 B4 \% L" a( l
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the) Q" f5 S Z: B
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the# j7 B- \& F! A# R7 c8 b
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has' D7 E& @" m* f0 g
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,5 Z' ?+ @. J% y- D# X) [: v
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular2 I) {4 |% {$ r8 V
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
9 C9 V* T* y& S1 s$ C5 n5 ~conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
+ t1 j& a% B2 c7 x+ j- U) h) [0 uemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
- ` E, C# c5 b8 o8 ostaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
! W# h' w- I9 {' C! v) e5 sall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.' n5 h) I8 |- j% A

4 x- g: e. W1 l$ W: ZThe specific functions of the coordinator include the following:6 ?# r3 W- J4 H: P# N' L
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
- k' W5 N" M/ }" b. `. Yofficers of the Coalition
) C: c. e8 E$ r4 z( I- b- y2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural* {. E- H! u9 s
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations( Y5 l4 x: l3 F8 G& c; E
and public institutions
+ [5 b/ U& P' b4 j* @2 O3 i3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 A3 I, G( X* @
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
M; A) n/ b3 o% E$ C, |8 P4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community5 X, E x; s( L. {' q
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with1 M- n9 k1 \( q5 j

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community0 Q+ a- Q% e. f
leaders

0 k2 L3 ?) j6 o1 GAdministrative responsibilities:1 S0 ]: U+ V- ^2 R7 k4 S* W: m& {4 Q
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
0 g1 _' F$ Q) t' I. Hregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
' \+ ~0 z1 v+ i E/ a7 `/ Hdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, i. q0 y! b2 u- Y
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.( J/ C s" M) \* W
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the8 h* i7 G* N% G% ~! E; u6 B. R l

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board0 `4 L4 n0 B; C# C' U( L0 S9 U6 e
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
9 v. i* X2 N5 e5 c8 Jimplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating+ g5 r/ d m5 M3 f, q5 C
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
) B/ Q2 \6 g) Y7 j: WThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
( N' t9 h! I8 b, j& O: m' saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
. b7 }. L) ^1 K$ W+ y1 Hbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: S5 g) g/ |$ c" f |participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
8 H% C+ A0 N9 W# _: f# b e" @facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of( Y- B4 `$ T3 X) G' `
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
4 b: |7 y2 h: x# mstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all( f4 o$ |; H& q2 u7 T, P' i
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
9 u' t( h9 i5 q, [" |/ l" M) m3 y3 udirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 P2 T# c2 J9 y( M/ ^2 W
policies already adopted# j. [" }& K# H$ I! h
