• Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and

Beginning in 1995, ETIP:; R0 N1 Y0 N6 Z- w& W/ G
• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and# Z4 w. N' N& N- ~4 W) Z
• helps participants develop the skills and recognition needed to work as

Applicants to ETIP can apply for funding to attend the program through

Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These
5 _4 s7 D* [2 H! q& ~* E) ^immigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it
$ R w$ [. N) I; e6 ~" Y$ Sdifficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not
% O5 d; ~& Y6 O5 G7 b/ frecognize their international experience or credentials.1 i: Z5 r8 M4 k; o0 y3 f. N
What is the practice?
5 R |$ O) ^6 V2 WIntegrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work H) Y( X1 ]( i
experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or
( [, O2 G( Y9 E+ U' Q" v! dEnglish as a Second Language.! f5 u9 ^) W' t1 C; x1 y7 J" {7 ]
The ETIP program involves four phases:

The training components of ETIP assist participants in developing skills
% E I0 N! ~' b+ X2 j( `& ?required for the Alberta workplace. Training includes:

• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:
! v4 y; n& P! ?! C* H􀂉 450 hours of in-class time1 Y* p5 g7 [ Y- n5 @
• job search and job management skills A" b, \8 t3 n/ Y9 H- F6 Q V# ^0 D
• first-aid training, and

Upon successful completion of ETIP, graduates are Technologist-in-Training

• ASET provides professional recognition of the qualifications of ETIP6 f2 p+ B# u9 F& @: d. W
graduates.

& I! [+ x5 @" GAs of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have
$ g' M& R) p; l! p- V5 p8 _found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.( s0 g$ d d' o y2 Y
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of
: ^# c' `& @4 p7 S: ]" rgraduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,, r' n% g/ F, |' a6 P8 D- _
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.
