EMCN provides a wide  range of settlement, employment,  language  learning and supportive
and  therapeutic  counseling  services  to  help  immigrants  and  refugees  settle,  integrate  and
) }( @6 \% e8 `4 oadjust  to  life  in Canada. We work with  individuals,  families and communities  to promote  full
; y) X9 ]4 B  l3 ^participation  in  society,  and  to  create  opportunities  for  the  experiences  and  skills  of
newcomers to strengthen and enrich their life in Canada.

  x' J" h9 \  A' f3 P- R% a9 |  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or
community  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to
' Y3 H- ^* @( S" x4 c1 ?( h3 g3 mprovide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.  
  
' e/ `' O% i7 g' S6 l/ s  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
7 _, w" X3 |( c1 onewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
Worker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
& l7 G! o# H1 zneeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for
newcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
assessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
centered delivery model.

' k2 f6 \  L7 }! T6 T/ \; h  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work.
7 F1 Q" z4 w% I& X* }  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
within the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners.
  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
8 R: ~( a) @- W% Q; i: q3 i! x  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.
% o* C& K' {5 |0 f2 {  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support
# x, P0 s3 V& T# Gnewcomers in settling and fully participating in community.
  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
9 b2 L/ n& I8 e2 ?" fcase plan support for clients who have complex needs.
  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.
  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  
service.  

% W# t# v  @+ J% c# Z8 w: Q1 y1 n$ BQualification

  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and
experience in Social Work or related human service fields.
  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
support needs
9 V! i9 V2 F& B  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
( P5 J6 W/ g1 q3 ]- |  G( h, a  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
9 S6 b8 M: ]$ K1 k  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate
2 y7 A9 x0 H2 s9 @! U* ]: ?insurance coverage for work

5 V; S& n2 s$ l2 Q7 D6 PExperience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field

1 ]% L1 c+ a+ @; Q7 Y& DSpecial Requirements
/ w8 |5 G/ S8 G) H: F  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to
newcomers
  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations
! O' }8 H4 p1 U; C' u3 U  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations

Skills

  J* y- Y( c- j4 S' X" W) g Strong English communications skills
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
