EMCN provides a wide range of settlement, employment, language learning and supportive

Primary purpose: The Social Worker works in partnership with settlement workers or
# S9 j% N1 y7 _7 R: Qcommunity cultural brokers from New Canadian Health Network partner organizations to 7 Q- X* T1 F0 E x
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs. 5 h6 s9 V9 u4 |8 k1 N
4 l& C, @6 z( q2 e U Nature of Work: The Social Worker will report to the manager of mental health services.
) `* k+ W4 B7 d0 [" C, tThe position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
R$ Y7 O# w3 h- D, }& Jnewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
2 C) H! g" y! v. E1 c( p/ bWorker will assist in case planning, conferencing and providing support and advocacy as 3 f4 x. W8 X+ r) T
needed. As required, the Social Worker will assist in accessing community supports for & V& k; T' }' R0 D; n# l* z
newcomers and their families. The Social Worker provides holistic and flexible initial
+ X1 d* ]" l/ wassessment of life circumstances, needs, goals and aspirations and adheres to the client-
! c$ n: k4 R% J5 Q* Acentered delivery model. 8 s4 a2 V. _( p

Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available / l5 C9 j& ~ ~. R
within the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners. ( E" K& ~6 E' Q* r. Z; }9 f# Y
Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served. * }# a% j/ a6 f/ Y
Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families. 1 G$ s/ R, z# u* O$ D, J7 H
Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support 1 j% j- m/ m* y/ F0 t- q. {
newcomers in settling and fully participating in community. / { }( T) |, Q0 d
Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental 6 P5 F) ~3 F8 g8 D4 M
case plan support for clients who have complex needs. / I# m, N: S$ L& C# g
Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers. " p Y+ r5 W n! k0 p6 X* p/ J+ e
Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful ) J" n# ?4 m; }6 H1 o
service.

Qualification
; q7 W* u% S3 l* Q3 H& T0 r: L
# s3 Z h0 g4 ]; s/ ^% _7 F Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and * W( r7 a+ a3 |* s) u9 M
experience in Social Work or related human service fields.
; D6 |* _% I1 |: J: m Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family
7 D) r4 M/ E4 ] P8 v6 k; Lsupport needs
+ c9 @- e! ? e Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
) w. c: B! m$ m, B( ]8 d Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages % v( w) z( N6 q7 P7 o8 T! N$ v
Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate $ ? l: ?# [0 a

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field 2 D2 E; Q( u$ n, n2 D1 Y
