The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
5 }! C9 M; c% Y; M8 s! l, Z- H3 N- Tthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 3 H3 f- D1 M( l
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA / D4 I! f) D" y5 A
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 3 y! }  D+ e. ?2 w/ ^/ H7 T8 L3 z
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA / [! u2 m0 B, K
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
* f" _* E- x% W1 n) I' S6 ] * d8 h6 ^+ G/ @2 H7 U
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and # c" W8 ~/ s$ l- x9 n
execution of the YWCA Strategy   o# U7 |  F# k

) c. k$ D" q+ fSpecific responsibilities include:  
+ i" M. s  Y! V$ d! k2 x* L
6 N) Y& i6 V4 S$ I•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
7 _$ `% `" j- j+ x( Tthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 2 _9 v: ]1 y/ W6 O& }# Z* k  S
the Board of Directors;  . \3 G' v. `/ j5 ]6 P. V* A
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
/ a/ y) G& O8 I8 V& x) h; }including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
  {1 E" f" j# ~, p( \" penable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
3 O& E; V0 k. h2 o" D# \•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
# S1 N& S5 v4 {: V$ bobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
# F% m- W3 Y* Z' Pthe board;  
/ v! M- H/ e# J. z) X7 [5 P•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
. n5 x2 O: X: O1 k; X6 y6 j•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
8 V, E3 I- Y, k* N3 u: _the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ) |& O5 H) Z6 \/ C
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
1 G- C0 o: b- i/ y: Q) h  q1 @changing needs of the organization and community; " M/ D8 o0 o7 m. o
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
* [9 u' x5 g- G5 i# C3 Fcommitments; 3 c* E0 t; Y; T$ `3 J3 I
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  3 Q6 `2 p! E7 s+ k7 H/ ?# |( o
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 7 ~3 L- C/ O* v* h
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
& R8 E' q' K2 \5 n•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) J0 V+ t4 H) G2 ?7 u& t* t1 a4 b•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
# S5 f2 n9 V! |  k/ W" x  Leffectively and positively represent the association;
: ?( S8 u5 p4 G2 Y' m; @# m  T& K1 {; l3 O, @0 [% P8 _. n" i5 _
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
9 D! @1 B: ]: h  p' b# {the implementation of systems to manage these risks;    D! R& ~) }9 r- r2 ?( j( l  ]
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
# N7 Q! l- @" M' h9 u% p1 J  C3 x- Eperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED * l; d5 L+ M7 }# U) Y+ I% C
the forthcoming year;  
/ b- v* y' S! Q5 Z•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
( t( [/ I0 o6 M8 |0 f- Xpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 0 r5 p0 ^. W! y- o, h$ _; Z
YWCA Canada; and % y; t3 W; h: R% t" `  r. F
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 2 M. B2 Q! ]. S" Q! p" v

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 1 w$ m" m, ?* n6 U* o
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

" M0 u" k- ]; X* p•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
' Q# ^7 K5 T: r$ J1 |* c  N•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
2 }% [" E: W4 w2 j' S2 @and achievable with realistic timeframes;
6 r' n3 f) Y. _" W•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build , D4 w( o/ g; d: A, g) B; v
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ! U3 a' q* K# _& F1 C: V/ I$ Q
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 9 A, Z9 d5 o, ~( M
•  Superior negotiation skills.

: r; N( x, @" }) O  w Required Professional Designation / Certification & a8 X7 I  b! s
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 8 N4 ^! L2 l: c# s

: F8 [  L. |; I) TRequired Experience & s/ ~; d& l" R
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 7 }6 b( g2 C/ u- @
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 8 ]; Z* u  n/ {: Q5 h# c
abilities;
3 o9 Y+ I1 K, s3 U% J•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 6 D8 K1 ~( z* G( {
Networking and Fundraising;
) Y9 H3 o( Q/ x9 P$ G3 k•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
( n7 Z$ {1 j& a2 @! Dand financial statements; and ) n" t. J- `% D  P
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
) C7 ]# a8 I" y2 rcentered perspective. : i  U, ?1 x% v* T: `
