The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ) C! m! G5 s. @6 s$ \
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 7 Q( @5 B3 d" h$ m' }$ K2 b
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA $ q+ z6 X3 Y: L( q( a: X
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

3 z! C/ L& V$ I( \Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
- ~+ Q# k! n6 X7 ~) u6 C' p9 w7 k0 }" wexecution of the YWCA Strategy 4 }8 E! K; |. d7 M$ |1 m) r: m6 D
9 g! |* Z1 C' k8 S6 |' m
Specific responsibilities include:    Q3 I; k" v1 S$ L5 U6 E

6 T. x" b* C+ a* l7 |6 K•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 2 D. \8 [$ ~: f
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
  k+ v6 `- P" B5 z9 `3 f) ythe Board of Directors;  " j3 T/ a! N: g$ W9 W
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
) B: }# u& D: q  w# @including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 8 Z" F1 A! a- ^6 p$ x! C8 F" i" h
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
! ]3 ^  \+ T8 R; u3 w, e•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
  v; R8 ^: }" f9 N/ sobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
" b2 V( X; y  s9 u4 j& d  ^the board;  
' J" y2 y/ y4 w  ?: o•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  % F* ^/ L+ n2 q  W, |$ h- ?
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
& K, v5 o! i2 ^+ ^4 G, ythe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 @; S9 U$ R! T* f
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / l$ Z  S/ W% f
changing needs of the organization and community;
8 |/ j; n. U- N+ H•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
/ Y1 o5 q6 p1 h1 acommitments; 2 |# n+ K! ~$ q2 B9 r1 @
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  7 z, r& Z& |: G; {4 R7 ~# t
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
+ ^: N2 [5 Z5 t4 j7 X% f! f4 J7 N: Qselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  # D4 `7 C" B8 i! F# C" L
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& W3 U6 ?# P+ o0 Z; s( n, G•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to   m+ p9 M8 S( W( ?  }
effectively and positively represent the association;
" \( q: f+ \7 U# i5 S$ a8 i8 ~; O7 b" @$ b' I8 X( N2 U1 ?
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
, c# ~$ w+ t' ^# [) nthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
( O2 D" _# U9 p# M3 f•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
/ Q5 M* V/ R& H7 n9 a- x: L! [5 Bperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
. ^3 ^0 T- |$ L0 {# Othe forthcoming year;  
  z% F) Y, i; m, @- `. ]7 c•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
% z7 W. O- X# f0 u3 Zpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
% `* p1 A! O. e' i: k$ wYWCA Canada; and
! t& a: o+ m" f5 w/ K  n( u% n4 n•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 7 L2 j/ \& l* B# s3 U# u, a% R

Required Skills & Abilities : d6 f& [) n/ h+ O7 Z  t
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; # Y2 w+ e; ^' Y" Z4 C
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 0 d+ h! Y. C+ b9 T0 J: T$ S
around decisions, plans and actions; . v7 x- `3 d" g8 c3 |' K' J
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
8 o2 w7 B+ A: {4 o•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
6 |2 y, \- C+ p$ gand achievable with realistic timeframes; 7 g& J( I6 g7 l# y, M. ?7 J/ S
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! q. X2 y6 x) K3 [
simultaneously;
8 P+ U& T+ l. F& P4 n•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build - A+ i" P1 j3 D" \  l
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
' D  ~9 W4 [, X# k0 o•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
# F; c) K5 n$ u•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
' D' j4 h# D$ A7 X$ O2 s4 V / c' p8 Q6 c% \
Required Experience 3 B) j: M9 p7 f3 g% H) t5 |
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
' g0 o. E- w+ j, u' `% r% T# ^& W•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation . z5 B+ i/ x/ d4 P( s2 O2 \
abilities; % g7 r# h( Q9 A5 Y( ?, ^
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
$ o5 F* n( ~; k' x* NNetworking and Fundraising; 5 K3 m0 i& t  @6 f5 W# _6 _+ H
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ' {% u5 |( A& T* S+ j% a# `- t; L
and financial statements; and % w, {/ S( _! P$ O4 ~! V! s5 ]
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 {; H- m! ^4 I; g: O' H- rcentered perspective.
