6 e9 K1 M6 ~3 d; E0 a% j- DThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
/ t+ t* t( ~  H4 p! z; a' Q/ v6 pthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead ; k' y  @' F2 s, k) m: e
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
+ [3 h0 {, T1 a6 B9 F/ W8 l" pEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
2 _# x0 z$ r6 e6 V5 |6 P- zsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA / C- \) P+ L% z: t: d# M" g
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

8 U- d* k. X' T) P, W ; Z- ]3 H- o* O8 W( a
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
3 }# J) K; K9 z0 {execution of the YWCA Strategy
# A* a/ h3 c6 z) U' i' A' O 2 Q' q/ n/ b: y# m; j2 J  q
Specific responsibilities include:  
7 F! x) ]7 o7 C: Z* E 1 s- r$ }. {; L3 Z8 h( ]  a
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
- r6 D* @0 U& H, N" Q( ]the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 b. h! X% P6 ~% a: y& q) N
the Board of Directors;  
* h1 V  ?; c$ B. C•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations * u* [5 ^8 m/ K& D6 P  p+ ?8 j2 S
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
) Y; f1 D7 M7 Q% k& n) Y$ ?enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
8 P8 B+ ~0 V1 `•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
3 U* @2 A; f" _+ Xobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by . F: Q3 w& i1 y$ X
the board;  
2 t* J4 F4 b) v5 |8 [" L) ]% a•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  , }8 i8 U3 H$ n6 Y9 Q" u0 h
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ; |7 }2 p/ B; K
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 I  b) |2 r$ c•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the * t. g9 x( }5 i
changing needs of the organization and community;
- [7 R9 u( F! K: d4 J2 A& S6 R- W•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ) H! T9 K7 q/ p( s3 W8 `, R
commitments; 4 p1 s* r2 q* m
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  % d5 `" i& v) M& }: G, t2 Q0 y$ }
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; Y0 Q) N* p, p  t  Vselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  * `7 s6 Y2 n" Y" ^$ n+ [
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
3 g4 G: g9 F9 i# w% _# `$ i: \# W•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 6 \# o6 M% A% }" v% R4 Q# R
effectively and positively represent the association;

4 b/ P/ F6 z8 D! D) ]- X•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 8 w3 E/ Y# ?3 v0 H
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
2 ~& a1 o0 ~* \/ G& F•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal : C3 p6 `% z9 W2 e' F
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
  J3 F# ~0 H1 t& othe forthcoming year;  
) ^4 f; }+ \( q6 |- U" L•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
9 s& _0 D! I+ ]5 q6 M! D- Z# ?; Gpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
$ l* y6 b  }' o( a, YYWCA Canada; and 4 X2 }3 g6 t/ T9 u3 S9 D
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 3 n* N) L9 H6 d9 f9 N1 S' J1 }" r

Required Skills & Abilities
* c, |9 t- ?% \# K; t+ n•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
; q9 h( F" F: c; h3 A9 [•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus # i& x  T1 z! Z. W2 F5 {6 T/ B
around decisions, plans and actions;
! Z0 G% e8 u; e; C$ e" h4 e9 U•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; % C0 x+ ~8 X/ _
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable / S+ V8 q! z4 c
and achievable with realistic timeframes; % X+ L" F3 D1 H5 \% D. z# X
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 4 S  I# v% T. D! B8 l/ E( q4 V8 C
simultaneously;
' }7 F0 `. x( ]* T6 [•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
7 _( j% J2 M8 Y" ?rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;   Y# ^! x4 j4 u, u. ]0 D) \
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ) c4 a# o% r. `$ w
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
1 V/ V$ ~7 L1 T  j! X9 y* c, f7 V+ R•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.   C! ?% ]  i7 [; c
8 e; |! e2 _9 l% i
Required Experience 7 p3 d" b! j$ O! b6 Y1 G
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
. n5 [3 ]3 ?: z4 f' I% W: u•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 6 F% L% Q1 O/ n+ E0 a' t3 F
abilities; $ K& S* p- L2 z3 j( o; g
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
7 ?' @( D+ f8 A* X4 ~# @$ o6 |% ~Networking and Fundraising;
3 x5 Z. r& h% w3 z7 f, n•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
! k: N/ F5 U4 C% V! Z3 mand financial statements; and
2 |0 x! b! R" a& N1 E6 R# U•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
