The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 6 s1 Y; G6 M$ i0 G/ H
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 3 z3 r! k! `  G* ~6 N/ [  J9 K
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 6 c9 j; M9 k! C" Q+ {7 A
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and % f5 `; b+ s! a, l5 B- m. |) R. g
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
+ u( o2 A# L1 R9 [6 d2 S# k+ zEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
0 ?1 W& k5 I) ^# t1 Q
: C/ t, X0 V  q9 l1 u* I7 [Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and $ V8 b7 E5 X! l' n9 Y, M6 D. p
execution of the YWCA Strategy
) k8 f& L* z1 a6 l
7 w4 Z. x6 z0 S$ nSpecific responsibilities include:  
* {! i0 P5 H( ?$ x; i: U' V
* q  N; g7 s( ?# u6 Y•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
( W) z! ~! ]$ H) K$ g+ m7 Hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by   E8 F5 S) R6 ], P: T7 J
the Board of Directors;  + o# A' z. T& s( M& _  y
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 ]: g5 J1 j  A( `
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
: X! x9 q8 k" b" C, E" t& T" kenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
  y' J4 b) z8 Q! ^) E•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
- J. A( c7 Z- {. Gobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
. o- a* j4 n# g& N+ d3 n3 sthe board;  0 e( W7 d! U% j: o/ `
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
1 b& P* @1 }4 Q$ O•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- C/ S2 O- y- Rthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
  I6 E4 w$ \1 b# F•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 3 B0 f( I9 R& o+ c& y
changing needs of the organization and community;
4 T* F) R3 u! B* |) p# C- m( x•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
: b- ^) H* Z2 s1 T7 F+ ]commitments;
; u5 o" `% o- A& n  X" J•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;    j# {0 d9 K/ N2 d# x8 @0 _3 p
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
7 d) t1 W; W6 Sselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
" H8 p1 E+ V4 U: J! {•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& [* a, ]) m* f- e•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) O* n4 W( T$ x1 c: [9 h# k) ^effectively and positively represent the association;
& K3 p" v- o7 i' S& \7 w9 d& ?) j# r- B5 t: z% }3 z; }3 E3 Y
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 0 q$ T0 g' t) `8 e+ G+ }
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  3 V( y6 ]0 u% }4 u
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
7 w1 ?/ F6 B% A$ R4 d; z2 eperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
0 X$ I3 p  J: m: T# _the forthcoming year;  1 O: F7 M" v4 X2 z% t
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
& g: a5 e! F5 j6 |2 Wpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
% ~( d! ~9 n4 y3 y3 w: XYWCA Canada; and
$ h; S1 g/ N* m  N9 e/ Q& G•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
+ Q/ l7 i% P, Z: C1 oForces.  0 B! M- `2 b1 m/ L. H
  / c1 \! @/ m* b9 _" F) z: d
Required Skills & Abilities
& b* c( P9 t  r" {; t•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
) ^* }# y. g. y2 g% n5 Q+ \2 D& ~•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
8 M5 M5 o$ x) z+ D- J( baround decisions, plans and actions;
( F, K. e, [3 a$ ?0 D& N•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
# r: [5 N2 Y& ^2 t$ i•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
! Z5 S; [5 |2 o, ^2 k3 _7 iand achievable with realistic timeframes;
2 X8 G7 @' B" K  e; n" n1 K•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 0 Q9 s2 K/ p6 S
simultaneously;
+ d; K; R9 t5 |$ U•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 2 O7 A. A3 t7 n9 u1 T9 Q
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 8 L! b! r3 a6 H0 c1 N* ?
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and " D$ s* `% g4 D: I
•  Superior negotiation skills.

$ q2 g$ L% ?8 f4 O1 N& [ Required Professional Designation / Certification
7 b, ^8 `& v& a6 X4 }0 g( }•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. $ d1 |: |/ }/ g2 h0 |9 W; v

& [# T$ V" v  z4 ~Required Experience
1 @6 C+ ~$ A" |•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 8 d- p' A( T: o/ m
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
+ K: N1 y7 D, @  |% }abilities;
; d& l: h! G; \" i•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, * x  Z' I1 p' [$ `$ @( d* O' @
Networking and Fundraising; 7 C# h2 \% M, [( D
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting - @5 ~% |# ]4 e( X8 N8 `! J
and financial statements; and
# l, h# F3 ^% }7 b/ }•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women - v) }0 e* W& l# l/ i
centered perspective. & d1 ^2 U4 y# d8 x% _6 D: ]
