The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ! U; w- X3 E- t( q) r3 `: ~9 V/ J
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
5 X0 W( t2 p: {1 r8 ^this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA : V! n( k: U- s! ~
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 5 `* k' D! b7 Y
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA * R8 V4 U; q, H: c/ a
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and . r8 p% b9 _( E& ?
execution of the YWCA Strategy 5 o$ `# R# K2 S5 F# Q' t% w$ H

& x2 A- `$ g  v; ]0 E8 iSpecific responsibilities include:  
* c9 X$ R2 v0 M ; w2 o- k$ X$ }% K, |- L8 Z
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 3 R, D( ^( L' c
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
7 C" Y8 a* U" |* Q4 _$ k' \2 Athe Board of Directors;  6 P6 Z, g( V* P2 p. m
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 5 y1 Z0 e8 K5 e
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to . J7 u+ I, t+ G: y3 O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 2 f2 M7 r( [7 L& P8 n2 R; g+ B" _9 f
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
/ [" T7 z  l% X( q% Y4 I6 Tobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by / J' f1 W; V- [+ j
the board;  
2 D8 V# C+ f- e6 C+ V4 p•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ) o# \! Q/ @/ C0 P+ U2 r) m
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion + L( F$ I  r, n) ^
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; # ~7 d4 i# P) \9 A+ Q/ S
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 g2 f) y# K# V" `changing needs of the organization and community;
) C% W" V4 b# {; y* E•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
" o+ {& Y; G, y) e; N. n6 ncommitments;
4 w3 C  q$ m/ D5 D" o5 q8 p; U•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  $ l. _  i6 U; I8 ?( _4 Q, E
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( F( F: m: w7 S( b1 ?
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  . L9 X) z; c1 b6 a+ A
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 6 r4 E7 A" @! w$ r+ Y: ^( \9 A
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
. U  y+ n7 f! F% Deffectively and positively represent the association; ' ?! {% O4 p. H5 z6 J. ?9 y

  C$ L" N3 ]: @' ?) {•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring   i# c! a* S" @7 ~& [( O* F
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
$ V3 X6 Y1 O" U: l( S2 Z( {•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
8 J$ @9 F4 d& ]( B1 z5 O) Iperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
, Z' f0 T3 H* B4 D3 D4 ~) U5 kthe forthcoming year;  
) M( \2 w& d1 M9 l2 X; h•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical - A; }; g5 |- c; W, }6 l
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of : T1 m9 v1 ~/ x
YWCA Canada; and
; x2 r: ]* E1 u0 w•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
" b3 B8 |7 }/ S7 ^+ ]: @1 t3 AForces.

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

and achievable with realistic timeframes; 2 N/ V2 j2 M0 }0 v0 z
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

Required Professional Designation / Certification
! B' ~- T' B: B- a* w6 K1 q•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 9 r. _% t4 Z# r! Y. X/ u2 e/ n5 j4 h

3 t  S  ]( H3 w1 B+ [/ URequired Experience ( b  z# }- _( N% S) I9 K, U
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; . s! |3 R& o6 [
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 5 \1 g! d- E9 T+ Q' A( }! s  C
abilities;
3 [. a6 T0 b7 G% M% e( W•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, / B5 K# j2 ?1 U4 O& Z
Networking and Fundraising;
7 Q% I. U9 b- l) Y+ ~•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 8 a6 `: s+ j8 I4 T; y
and financial statements; and ! N- z/ @1 @: |
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 9 ~% O+ q: I$ q6 Y) I7 a5 m! U
centered perspective.
