Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and : U; k4 G8 v1 ^  y4 c
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities

$ |0 |7 {# j& c0 oReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and * i; L  w1 ^: E. i8 T+ y
execution of the YWCA Strategy
+ f- D: @+ u/ u
7 `# ]9 M' }! k* ]  CSpecific responsibilities include:  
+ b& Z. d/ i4 }2 _& M
/ d  q  `1 h% k•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of . `; B- u( z& X' U
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by % w$ M5 N& J4 P' Z: J  y3 m* j' k
the Board of Directors;  + w: \6 u) y5 r) `& I
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 8 K! b7 K) V& K! Y0 l/ K8 j
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
6 b5 `% ?$ C% D/ c& `; genable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
- D' N# Z2 Y/ {! M8 [•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
, i" B7 K4 z6 o4 [6 Oobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
+ T1 T* J9 O) h/ \* Y3 p$ b. Athe board;  
+ R0 L* j$ z! f4 `, J•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  . w* C% B5 X4 P( J, I/ E- u2 w( a
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion   E8 G* S# c7 ]6 t: ~' a/ W% Y
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 x) i+ A+ P$ Z  `/ r& a
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the # e0 z% L) D) z0 U
changing needs of the organization and community;
" Z3 `/ c! Z0 V! }% t- ^•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
2 r( }, z) Z7 \# a) lcommitments; 8 o- q# k, U4 v
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
$ D4 }8 m/ u; K; @, \•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective / K5 m; _4 n. n4 X; H% W
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
' L0 O3 y7 s: G$ O•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 5 ]* ?9 F4 U" w( ^
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to   f/ A: o) c1 }
effectively and positively represent the association; 8 l8 G% k/ x! t& U. a8 v
! f' J8 c& M+ T7 q1 U
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 N- i3 ?1 V, D2 K) g- p
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
0 f0 L+ w5 j* U% j% m•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal " l, S9 u0 }3 J. y% b
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 4 z7 _$ ]) E2 y6 V. O/ W
the forthcoming year;  , k+ T" c0 J7 i1 e/ m
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical - Y/ T/ |; S. _2 D
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! w6 s, ]* k: H/ b. j+ Y
YWCA Canada; and
1 U  |; w1 |; V$ K•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
# h/ G. W; F. F3 E9 f* jForces.  + I5 G, u8 ^0 B8 y

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;   x1 ^8 I+ A  X
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus   B" C$ O, f2 _
around decisions, plans and actions;
9 X7 n& B0 u8 S, u•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 8 [( z3 A* Z  ~0 D8 A- a; D
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
: ^$ A0 _8 X0 p( ?and achievable with realistic timeframes; $ x: `- n0 l; ]$ Z, o6 n, ^5 T; E
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks . h1 i; q* b/ {/ c
simultaneously; 1 I1 D; E0 g2 E* F
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build , B! D& i0 X% h
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
1 i; Y( w3 c7 z0 q" R, `6 `- e•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and $ S$ ?7 c  t" b" h* E5 D
•  Superior negotiation skills.

6 I" x! O" }$ b$ D3 b5 V9 b Required Professional Designation / Certification
2 B7 T; _9 p% L' y; j: @•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
; d: ^' _1 y/ J* P$ U7 G
1 Y2 w1 |. c  R0 G# `$ H3 y& CRequired Experience
' P  J) ?# ~( C9 w6 d* ^+ ]' W& i1 N•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
2 B! L* |6 S0 U* K) N& S$ B, |& F$ |•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
6 S) {1 _3 [- L1 d$ u5 Q5 U  Gabilities; & X( G- t$ R* H6 J3 m; z
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 4 B- E$ I% |. L# Z! S
Networking and Fundraising;
$ y# N" M+ b, s! |2 F•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting " }. _3 f5 m! J0 W5 W
and financial statements; and
, T' R% E! V* ]7 l; a•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
