: k+ t4 G: S" w; w" p# gthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
) j5 T. c9 n( e+ O/ n% h7 m- oEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Responsibilities   V/ p: Z& z1 ~8 m

* q" r6 C1 U+ z2 O8 z. GReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
# M' t% f( \' `) b" |) r9 ]6 m  `( Hexecution of the YWCA Strategy
9 l# L3 O! M3 g1 @$ ~  U7 z " Q) c+ V4 Q1 @. a6 w
Specific responsibilities include:  + \- Q0 c" u/ J- K! R8 H5 k* L

' ]: [9 R9 ^* M2 x1 c•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of + S4 k- R' h6 @2 W. d6 Z  M
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
, s3 ?0 x6 D- t) K6 ]5 E1 [the Board of Directors;    A$ Y  e7 ?; ?$ x/ C+ n* \
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
  ~; ^2 Q2 \. G: Z, ~$ F: Zincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to * U* P/ z! H# [( o& q
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
8 M( Y* _# I' o- b  O- ~•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
' _% P; h9 p- J3 ~* F  S# Jobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ ?  O; y: _9 z' J3 K9 a4 T& Tthe board;  " d: \1 O5 j# _; p# G7 H
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  0 `5 @/ s3 d" C; U8 P: `+ V
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ' t6 t2 ^! D( l4 ^
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
# s0 [- u& S2 D2 i  f•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
; J: m5 y. Z$ ?2 |3 Rchanging needs of the organization and community; # z5 {3 ~8 e; [2 z  M
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
8 Q9 r; o9 E# F% Y  Ccommitments; 6 p& f( o! a: {$ t3 H! V3 n- [6 O* O
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
  Y7 l& c6 [; ]) A1 j# V•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
* t; q# O+ I2 o+ V1 i1 L" ~0 Dselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
1 M9 u9 M: }# |•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
: t6 G9 H0 j. B. [•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
$ f! j2 ^) q" X* {" G: Seffectively and positively represent the association;
6 L) r0 j% L9 N* G# y2 T4 I" n/ t7 K1 X( @9 O0 e/ a  z
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
* i' a: M$ _/ H- S- ~" |the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
- Y+ o  S9 z& g) X•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 H8 @; U1 u" h" a: t8 d' K$ u+ cperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED & _" T6 o6 z, @! O+ q- A0 z1 r4 d
the forthcoming year;  
4 Z& a, U+ X3 b•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ' U2 g5 U7 X& S: o2 O
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of + {8 i3 Q6 r8 p& i7 t$ X
YWCA Canada; and * M, W. h* Y( n. h% l
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
6 j3 r& J+ s; E9 t+ y0 |" }Forces.  $ W, z' y# h- @* ]3 Z! M, I

Required Skills & Abilities
- z) l2 R$ n% x4 F•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 3 Y2 I+ E. J2 n' |
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 7 H4 Z1 x1 `) u: f6 d
around decisions, plans and actions;
3 z' P2 O% U2 Z2 _/ y2 m•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; & H: V' p; c  b; ^  S! x& p
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
0 y( `' K( p' o; v9 @5 D3 cand achievable with realistic timeframes; 8 f4 F' _% v8 l  Y; H
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ; T/ D7 }/ k) W' L$ r; ?
simultaneously;
) X. z& k* l0 u4 j# a4 j. g3 ~•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ' ]$ u' T  @; `- \1 w* F% n
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

Required Professional Designation / Certification . _0 s# ~4 f; c  D
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
6 X) g: n2 l1 h+ w6 G! r # g0 a% F8 Z5 R' y+ W8 `
Required Experience 2 x, B/ Y6 G3 n6 _; k- I( B/ z, `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ! S2 L% g8 b$ C: _9 w  q
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : N( q  o. K* ]  }
abilities; 4 D% d0 F( n( s& V  N6 `) z
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) }' p7 V' M, E9 H: V; J! i9 X3 u
Networking and Fundraising;
$ S6 \" K3 a4 ?+ L$ A* N$ H, h- B•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting . Y& w9 G$ f! [# E7 k+ ]; ~
and financial statements; and
0 y# A/ {# J0 F# L, _9 i8 u; N•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women / S7 M' `6 b! t) C
centered perspective.
