The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
. N  ^9 b) F6 d. {  i( nthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
7 y3 s1 B1 x! R6 dthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 2 ^9 C6 W7 V$ x4 P
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
# \+ R/ n& H% }execution of the YWCA Strategy
3 m$ F2 \. N# _  C5 f
: q4 b) S2 D; oSpecific responsibilities include:  , a- w( \/ y- H5 A, f
- `& t+ C" T' ?# o# {( K, w
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
- K; P8 G6 E/ h$ H7 Z/ \. \. Hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
5 t) T3 Y+ e2 }1 w2 Q% othe Board of Directors;  
; b5 e: V1 u# a0 `) z•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 8 k; t! I0 x0 p1 Y7 t5 b
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & \5 W5 \% e1 p  V% L- ?" i
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; " _  V6 L* T; w* W! `
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
3 f3 j  e  N0 |- o6 [) m/ l1 i3 iobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
3 q  g& U! m9 h* xthe board;  3 b4 a" z7 M0 k: B, I, g
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
! j, |0 d# [9 Q+ }" F5 V•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion : l+ Z5 L# z' c( j6 R
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 }) \3 ^" s$ D# w; w2 J
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 7 [% t% }0 Q  h; W
changing needs of the organization and community;
/ V. h' k6 g( @3 @: I6 @" P% k•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
4 n, f+ y" g1 l+ x8 k: u% [7 acommitments;
& t' B# r8 r* h  O! \•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  . k/ o) @, c: E0 z
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective + u8 @/ h6 A! E, \$ A
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  2 z* |' z4 _3 S. F* M2 r( }0 Z: a
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 1 r2 Q6 L: y! F' {. ]2 U2 y
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 1 |( k* G; U0 `9 P2 d
effectively and positively represent the association; ! B  C) @! e( G1 _5 f  Z4 F- I9 n
. O' G# f. ^8 Q6 O
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ( ], q% H. u2 u: H
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  2 N/ y# }$ _, |! p9 p8 M0 A6 H! V! {/ W, ]
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal # b. K3 H0 s# O8 @
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 2 V7 L) U9 y, R$ g4 t
the forthcoming year;  % e+ i/ q/ h: Z
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
) L4 h  d1 `! e4 L6 J) h" d; c# Q8 kpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
" V$ c5 K9 Q' M: h+ ]  lYWCA Canada; and 3 j4 q2 l  ?$ {; H' a4 ^' \' A
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task # _7 F  t; R  |
Forces.  3 |9 o/ r' C0 A9 i; _* `' b
  
3 o4 r! ]! a: T% W6 g; oRequired Skills & Abilities ; Y1 {& }; C2 q3 p9 d5 [6 T7 p
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; " d7 j1 s4 t4 }) i
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
# {2 N& ~, `- A* V9 Xaround decisions, plans and actions; 9 E' r( [1 |9 Y( H% }
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
) d% n4 j1 u+ g9 @7 h5 g•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 0 Y" w" @# P& i7 U
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
! P6 y, k; M  I) Y•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
, M2 A/ B2 @3 r0 x* V& h3 dsimultaneously;
# j# F( ~4 X8 e+ s: K•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build " w* Y; X8 N7 T2 {4 ]4 U9 X& p
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
' r( W2 L2 h, X" p6 y•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
  K* C# q+ o. w3 d# b3 q•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification " x  p! Z1 H. |( \; g9 `2 g/ _2 J
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 0 v! h' i) n' k. a0 {0 R
: k" b4 Q0 q3 n' ?9 {* m& ]9 N
Required Experience
, j  o' w1 ^1 E4 w9 X* P7 X: H* }•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
5 z- m$ m3 J8 f; t6 k' D•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
, v/ c1 N& z0 O  R2 n6 x) Wabilities; ' {% f: h6 [" A3 J5 J  Y
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
  f( y* x* J# G; vNetworking and Fundraising;
' Q. p$ ?$ X5 j  X•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
1 C; O4 m+ l9 k) x- Band financial statements; and
4 [7 O- G$ S# Z# v6 A0 H% p0 q" j  y•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
