The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
- ~- Y: C  u* M( `" D3 i( Nthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 2 O8 v" G8 {5 h& O2 U  O1 r* ^
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
( ^& Z4 `1 m' t5 V" B0 N5 rEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 0 B$ c( I, j& M, h! O7 c" e7 U9 }
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA   x) V  j& g& h$ a" ~5 |6 i% j! j3 A5 {
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ! U8 S7 o4 i3 R! j. b
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities ( J) ~6 E! \& I9 X5 ~3 r+ u: ~( Z* q

  S( @7 b( p. w) b: ?2 D1 o  |Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
. }- j- I5 |/ G) S+ f; R1 @( Nexecution of the YWCA Strategy ' e! k1 @2 F) u) T
8 k2 r) R$ l6 W+ L  P" P
Specific responsibilities include:  
8 {* Q# h  g! M0 X+ u& [
1 K5 T$ P. ]8 l: m3 `) ^•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
5 n) K: [  q- {4 othe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 6 U0 u$ J7 i+ a- L( [8 m
the Board of Directors;  
3 ~& F! M. A9 D% k$ o3 ]& b, |% J' [•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations " Z  @+ O! {% R" C2 m
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # z' R7 z4 Q$ p# r
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; # H  V" m! y& ?6 s5 U" D" x1 Z
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
+ D3 ^8 A2 h& A6 o" ^, bobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by - l. o, y- E) \1 T2 D/ c8 v& j
the board;  4 b: A8 z5 ^( l- i5 Z$ `4 T
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
; ]% y8 n, x/ K•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( b) g4 \9 i2 M/ w3 Z7 ]6 hthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
4 `6 l4 C) C+ P•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ! L4 [7 |: F) }8 ?7 E2 L; G
changing needs of the organization and community; ' v# B3 c- v4 _6 J. h
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
% ], Q/ M3 P& w3 s$ icommitments;
, g$ M5 ~) C: Q# T1 r4 c7 m0 @•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  2 v+ Q1 t9 v# I' ^3 D! E* |8 {: e
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 1 F2 q" U2 J4 m1 F3 w
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
+ C0 o* q1 n% G8 @+ q7 Z5 H•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
# }. Z0 e9 x! R2 {•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to : I- R2 f' f! Y5 x4 O
effectively and positively represent the association;
/ U( G( Z' Y1 V# Y& o; n9 f/ I- o& W; s
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
7 \9 r" q- H, O2 K) athe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  9 e7 `* n' r  B3 T; j# ~
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
8 C2 S# b- j+ L2 a/ _- m1 m+ i  ?performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 3 P& u. u7 z# M, K, @2 |
the forthcoming year;  . d; z4 T/ V" c
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 H: O8 R% i4 |+ xpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
; a6 `7 E) A3 l2 {, `) vYWCA Canada; and
" ?8 K( n5 f1 g2 d3 f•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
, M7 d7 _) f9 OForces.  , C, F1 G$ \" P% W1 L
  
' Q& M- T- L3 n5 U" nRequired Skills & Abilities
0 R9 j/ Y5 i3 U' r+ O, G•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
# c' m- K, f5 d2 F•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
) m- r6 o' p+ K  C8 Faround decisions, plans and actions; 8 I* e" t+ S9 ]' f, B8 B% A2 O
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
" U' x0 x8 e  q4 H# k•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable / u2 ^% n+ y9 m1 L6 r3 \7 {
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 R6 z( q) D' ^•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks   I+ D  D: X6 M7 B* q* X
simultaneously;
$ U" H' a; d" y, A. b•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 `. a9 S/ D3 Z4 R7 {
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
& U  }/ n7 Q; X1 z8 C•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and / o5 d0 O! l+ `& _! B
•  Superior negotiation skills. " k/ e4 k& m( G9 e8 ~

( H+ N, k2 l$ Q( f* V: y Required Professional Designation / Certification ; m- h, v) a" X4 z) K
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
( }& O, b. }& x- V) ~
5 J5 Z/ u9 m0 K* B+ h- P: J( `Required Experience   m% g& m' |! K% d/ ~% F/ D+ z
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
9 s8 f# v0 A9 P( [•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 6 H! h7 M# K( `
abilities; ) e( W( K. A, B& K" a$ \3 d8 I! B
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
, c- x$ t  h, y  z: ZNetworking and Fundraising; " f  F$ X$ a" U6 Q
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting " p! K0 O+ h4 q. t- ^# z1 K
and financial statements; and
5 {& J" c2 C) b  K3 v•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
