9 l3 B! d3 {7 e; l3 Q) R( i; D5 ethinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead # @$ r8 i, n4 P# A' t
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
; o& i9 @/ Y3 H; s* pEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ) P' n5 J+ p  i+ F9 ^
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA - x( \. `4 h4 c: Z+ `. H& M
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 4 A/ y* X8 R  Q2 y& K3 m

9 t/ x$ B0 q$ v) d- ^9 QReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
. c9 c" ]3 G3 X6 u$ y1 }execution of the YWCA Strategy ; I6 H" O* A; ~3 \4 o
# j2 r3 d, s/ K$ @5 R4 C% |
Specific responsibilities include:  / @* i: D; u; A8 |  Y6 e
: K+ [( ^+ I! E5 j7 e
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
2 D; A9 {* V# Kthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 8 y# V0 s2 T5 ]6 c- L) P
the Board of Directors;  
. X; N" |1 |( b' ]: a: H  s•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 0 H  W( }% D, M# \; c: Q- W
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 1 m5 N; z; ?7 |
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 8 I5 p7 H& S. t( r$ r% B1 [
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and   }. I, }* D6 b$ {7 d
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by : p+ R( c) ?* G- I7 b5 Y
the board;  
9 c5 y8 t: T6 m! I" S+ ]; F•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  : W0 ^" k8 P5 X4 @6 L2 k
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 2 d. a2 U# a( _2 d' |
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
5 h/ `6 O! ^7 q# z% l6 {•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
* i. {5 L4 U/ z% h- {" s0 g7 b5 ]2 M- Zchanging needs of the organization and community;
7 h$ a6 n9 O5 |8 r' e- Z$ T. B4 R+ s2 J•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ( z' U* s- |8 Q' R6 ^0 H) B8 C
commitments;
3 C9 o4 Y% n& i: k3 O3 B  ]8 B•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
8 r6 Q' c- [0 E* x•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; A- v2 H7 n+ }* x2 gselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
3 n* s- V/ G) n3 U. Q•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # h" X- I9 @1 d5 `5 j
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
: m1 j' M2 k# o8 W  beffectively and positively represent the association;
0 U/ w" c+ }0 L3 ]2 n/ q
2 ~  q( h' j0 m4 o  w•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 f4 P7 }: ^& @5 j/ y- j
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
' D2 G. C1 c% I$ H! o5 k: H: X•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal # j2 `( b! w7 F* i/ f! \  R
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED * y2 R' }3 x* p: M! D" e
the forthcoming year;  5 ~- U: J! n& h$ H  T2 G/ `
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
0 \' ]0 T" K: j8 Ypractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of & _( Q0 H' E  Z( [7 c1 n
YWCA Canada; and
# S$ x; _7 V7 _! s•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
$ F5 I! t8 Y2 Z1 w: V0 X6 x1 ~" G4 }5 `Forces.  1 L. _2 r/ F: H  Q' e6 [/ |

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; + F# ?' s/ a3 j1 H) w
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
8 ?3 k- C: X/ j& D& C1 l3 O5 Qaround decisions, plans and actions; 2 e; a% A( k8 F
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; . ~  f9 v9 U" o, k5 b
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
: H& E% _5 E& h' b+ \+ o) W/ a+ ]and achievable with realistic timeframes;
8 i/ h1 {. O- S$ O+ Z•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
. i/ f5 w2 G4 j- X6 F  Bsimultaneously;
/ B3 Q# f( V' o; W5 u0 G, d# g% n•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build " k/ Y; A3 f$ A% w- D  X2 Z" Q
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; . [6 P' c/ j4 e) W
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and * N! a. u; ]- W( X& G
•  Superior negotiation skills. ; g& }% p$ H" f) D8 `2 p

7 N2 P. J6 M% d5 T2 b8 l+ { Required Professional Designation / Certification
  x' E, H- |! I  x$ J2 L5 h! m; [0 J•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
3 d  ^$ _# u2 E( K+ ]- l+ R- K4 @
' U( c# H- T7 D% l% WRequired Experience 9 d3 d4 k* o1 t" p: ^% u
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ! w0 _0 C3 |! |- X$ K
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
7 W& H  s8 O9 x9 Q  m$ S8 K2 uabilities; 8 M! U1 k8 ?8 o6 {
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
0 |' S% o7 p9 y2 N2 M, KNetworking and Fundraising;
5 T1 o# `( Q4 h4 v: m' J•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 7 l+ N7 [# y- b( C& Z  \+ o
and financial statements; and % f6 \, D9 u6 t
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
+ @, ^# d0 G  m1 _centered perspective. 4 b6 t$ @! h! }3 h# u2 p
