The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

* r+ a2 `+ F/ W) |+ i! z) Wthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
) x1 [5 `  B! y; ^4 m) rEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
& u$ O$ ?2 ~9 R$ Y8 Rsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
( L: e; a9 W! t1 x  X4 ~Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities ! m( i, p# h; h4 H% S; Y

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ( u! X. M! V7 ~9 K
execution of the YWCA Strategy
* Y- F: s$ v; _9 [1 H1 k  D
1 p. x# x8 z+ s, R! `9 A: o* KSpecific responsibilities include:  
# J. b% ^( C6 J3 |6 i8 o  V  @
, J! W2 v1 O( F9 \4 L3 n+ Z8 S7 T•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
3 U# w- D6 k4 S+ E, A$ Z" Jthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
+ Z% ], v( u  E8 sthe Board of Directors;  
) C7 z) M* w+ t6 a8 E: u! R•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations , x7 Q% d1 E2 G1 D3 r1 ~7 h/ _
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
0 d! H2 i6 Z" l8 x# A1 Oenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 0 O* q. a/ C/ O* ~
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
) w% G" c; t& {+ `. @: D: @8 _. uobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
0 w9 `/ T$ b* _4 [1 s% hthe board;  
; w; c7 R& B+ K3 \8 ]•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
' O- f6 ~; Y: _$ V•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
. x1 h4 E! H0 w0 g8 Tthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
. X% \: y9 k$ R& U! ^; V# |; n6 j! S•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
9 U' R% s2 d6 L- ~/ q+ @' Uchanging needs of the organization and community;
) D8 [. J4 ?7 P7 s" z* s5 q•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
- O) X  X0 M$ g+ Q4 mcommitments; 3 H' W( B1 O" k( s- c+ M
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ( Y6 d1 t3 k1 `; s6 j; R
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 8 z! Y0 b5 i: r
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
  `+ |# Y5 {3 }) Z$ p; j- I5 \! E' ^8 Y•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ) B, E0 [( k% p* b" M  r3 T' H
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ Y+ ~0 C& ~, O# K$ v
effectively and positively represent the association; # |- Q4 Q5 d" S  b2 @  Q

0 R: j8 |  x6 x) c( `. |6 {•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring + r7 e) U6 A, ~+ d7 `4 V7 P
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  3 X, ?) A0 v; V3 G# g4 l9 E
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal & N* O3 k& L7 L  f/ r( y4 r
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 0 q+ s3 ^; q, o
the forthcoming year;  
9 y0 s% \4 b1 I" V1 z6 o5 @•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 5 z) d& D0 L( O7 J8 @3 ^+ D
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of : Q) }5 l1 v# a+ P; }5 M' Z
YWCA Canada; and
  ]4 [/ D/ ^; y•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ) Q" f7 f" _  {2 E& x2 L
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
# _' q2 T7 L# f: ?' V1 z•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
9 q5 E4 n' l+ F4 w6 f, ]. v% j•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 2 v+ y9 x! _$ _$ }4 [' ]
around decisions, plans and actions; 0 o: K2 D, c# I$ d& @
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; * Q7 N7 n* J  a3 y7 }- A
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
$ d" y3 e8 N8 \$ @and achievable with realistic timeframes;
$ w$ Z5 E/ m/ m* I" w, p•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! ~+ C9 x% h. {# `% `, u
simultaneously;
. L* T8 C9 f2 A9 U7 u7 d( e7 I- g3 M•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
) `( l8 U! b7 Z6 O# orapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ; u- w7 Q+ `: \% J
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

& p& F! X( P) C•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. $ p' a  x9 Q( E- u. L0 [: o

" B  Z) c% @+ _6 S& I: DRequired Experience ' l/ C) ?! s! s" x1 z/ _
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 0 W# B1 Y$ l$ o# r7 l, w7 ]+ ~* s
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% ~6 V; z$ I: F6 r1 M( U# xabilities; 4 O; |. L2 G$ B  e3 ]* D7 C3 T- Y" `
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, / `* B: B# J# w/ u+ p9 S
Networking and Fundraising;
) X" Y/ g, `5 T# h6 N•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
3 j& F2 S# u. s7 Hand financial statements; and
+ b% W3 |3 H6 E0 l* z4 u•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ) J' W) I, Q2 N0 F: L. Z3 l  D
centered perspective. 8 v) i" j9 T7 v! T1 \
