The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
9 P% T2 f* w7 e& k7 @' z% Nthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
( \8 E% B3 B5 p; M( t, K& i& z7 }this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
1 o7 |3 b) p) G1 Y: |( KEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ( O# _8 x- `! d- e4 `" I
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

1 _6 [3 W. m; [; a" SReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 2 h4 n1 o8 _. }9 x
execution of the YWCA Strategy ( K( `: L, |) U/ f

1 e) ^/ M1 S# p/ m8 z& sSpecific responsibilities include:  ( z  {' p/ [# P8 O* R; V
4 F1 l- V7 a) w
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
7 h7 P6 ]' P4 E" H* Uthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
) P+ s+ k! n) k3 athe Board of Directors;  + ?' a" D& M* x: G3 V1 ^/ |
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
! z/ e5 o/ y: P3 R0 b3 t) Nincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ ^+ g4 H7 h1 C: v4 l5 J5 O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
4 A* x1 u" p# R8 b•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and % m) z  L% T0 a2 V$ O6 ~
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by & b0 O# S7 e4 X; Y1 u. |
the board;  
6 l2 Q+ O; s6 i•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  , J- V4 C- S, _& t/ Z5 J/ U. x
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ' w7 [2 e* Y( j: Z1 D/ N
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
- ]# {% ]) O6 |  b" ?& y•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ' [) T! w( s/ V+ u
changing needs of the organization and community;
4 ^( V& ~  b+ r# ?' q•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ! d' f- T6 V; Y7 Y' Q9 X
commitments;
- l5 ^; [/ I3 t0 w, H- S' [, q( Q. S•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 W5 j3 E) c/ _& b, U! V
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ' A+ [' a6 g: X3 K/ h3 V: P% q7 Q
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
9 T& q+ h0 Q1 [$ @4 e" P: a. h8 s  a•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 6 w$ K9 {0 o! w. [7 _) M9 g
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) F" f" i* H5 c8 T& veffectively and positively represent the association; ; G, {- {) {% N+ N+ w2 h
7 R% r" s3 J& G
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ) h1 _' h1 d. ^# M/ O$ A, U( e
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
$ d! d! d. b5 i$ z) {0 a# a•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ) Z/ D5 D+ L8 E4 T$ `
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
% \3 M4 Z. E1 O2 D5 Q6 o( hthe forthcoming year;  
8 i5 H; G1 B: \2 G: e1 ^' U! X7 l•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 1 k" V( L, g9 k' g* S4 i
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. H: r" ]1 }; N( RYWCA Canada; and 3 ~5 F- N  o$ r4 m( L: O
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
" e1 `" E1 ]+ j8 q& ?Forces.  0 |+ H9 ^, r: ?- ]5 e3 t$ v$ A
  
3 ]; q0 [' D0 ^: G0 JRequired Skills & Abilities
9 V! U+ e2 M: ]8 ?•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
5 d0 m- d4 C- j5 Y3 j: {! v•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 3 Q9 y6 _+ N! \6 g
around decisions, plans and actions;
  ~! u9 {- ?+ d( @•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
! F. C- n; ?6 Q+ t1 x: l•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
6 [; [1 M/ a" q* R. _and achievable with realistic timeframes; ) O4 b7 Q* i' g. w! l+ ^$ X
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
4 B% C5 I- J' Ssimultaneously; ) \( g  T- h/ I' j0 e6 S
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
, s* ~; [$ }, ]8 `; I5 ]- \rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
& T' \+ m7 z9 _) K6 D•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
- X5 S9 J' D% i. m+ x3 ]$ X•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification + |; D- _3 \: d$ C) ~, d
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 9 t; a$ X; f# t2 l: V' C  F5 `

& A  d$ c# l! IRequired Experience
! o# a, T* X9 B3 R•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; & p# ^4 x- F  H0 S) o7 S; Z
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ) r5 b1 d0 R/ h$ A5 z0 K2 e
abilities;
7 H% X; F$ ?" E3 y" I8 |) }•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
/ S4 |6 y! d2 X7 U7 T9 N3 e# y4 C8 E' CNetworking and Fundraising;
4 G$ A3 B& ]/ ?" Q* c•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ( H/ d! q2 q6 Y/ h+ B: G* R3 A
and financial statements; and
/ ?0 M( G1 o# a7 S•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
