* N. d. X' v$ k7 Dthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
" x0 [' X3 V  GEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
" J6 U) z9 c9 s% \" m$ }+ s0 [6 M1 @) Ssurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
+ W1 I8 \7 l. Z# U, _+ j2 Q4 bexecution of the YWCA Strategy
3 C# i# X. m2 c# p4 d2 ~! h' B- f9 A + i8 E* t+ O# n' V  \4 T5 p+ A
Specific responsibilities include:  
1 C: j& F3 a' O  t + E; i: b2 o, H
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
/ D+ Z/ T& e; N* U! ^% Nthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
; ~) ]1 w2 g; m, a% ~! s, mthe Board of Directors;  6 o+ W. ~! ~9 g! C
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 `1 o/ ^" q5 j
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ! O; a* `$ V% _# o) @2 Z. y: `
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; # Q, |9 \; ?5 O" H; c" J
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
7 R* j. ^* R# C6 u: P- f8 e. Kobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
  k" W2 v4 {/ \7 j4 b/ l+ ithe board;  
* X' @! b: o& L7 x5 |1 U•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  + w! B/ k; T6 M- Z+ y
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
3 `9 ?" i1 v1 y+ H# lthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 2 e+ Z2 D9 u  i4 r. ^/ M+ X
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ! f$ T; M! v1 {7 l
changing needs of the organization and community;
4 |8 p0 P) }' o% q( z. B" L•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue & N6 ]6 N6 d  e( ?7 `4 _8 i
commitments;
# y) _! @' T: B! C  {* l. n' A) g•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ) R# I3 g8 m) l' m: d& m
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; p2 V: S6 A8 V" }" b/ mselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  0 v' u+ ~6 A7 n3 G8 Z9 {
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 0 ~( t8 U  e6 p
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to * O, K& F1 G- k4 v. Z  K0 Y+ B
effectively and positively represent the association;
, ?! _! L  K8 W0 N+ b
: V( \& ?7 l% G7 t•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 8 y4 |! D; M/ `+ `2 K" o( y5 o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
: F/ N( E2 j1 q) G; R2 U/ Y7 |•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 5 J, r4 U- U" \! h, Y1 t5 T
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED + o, K8 i( ^  y. j
the forthcoming year;  
% U7 w0 [2 r, r  M$ `# L- e! Y•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical $ O; W& |1 o# W/ c- \
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
/ m' A3 h* e; J0 MYWCA Canada; and * o# [6 t. @3 ^5 U% ]8 e
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
" u. p0 \" r% k8 A8 ]Forces.  : o8 X8 v' b$ _; C
  
' f% h& w% ?$ [" y+ n  U- aRequired Skills & Abilities : e/ |! i& M1 m. Q2 [$ f
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 7 B; C- i% |) D/ g0 ~
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
1 I; m* C8 t1 e% }around decisions, plans and actions;
" p! L/ R& D6 H4 J$ U: r3 O6 {' _•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
8 M  |9 o. K3 U$ f•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ) E2 P- g  g( z& c4 o
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ( F/ L: {4 }' s( B6 c, k
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks % w- A) H5 d" z: Y  O
simultaneously; : e0 ?1 u5 l* S& I# \- t7 o* x3 w% g9 W
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
8 j( T9 F4 A( |  e2 S; Z0 A) ?( Brapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
; J& Q7 S* X# s' _•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification ; O! l# S1 H. ^3 B* i+ F6 Y$ U
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
2 P: Y! d! c/ w& v1 `: R
2 |0 c0 O" t$ S9 @! Q/ b9 n) yRequired Experience
4 u, F- X! g* c8 A5 @* }* g( W•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
1 N8 }1 [$ {" q4 a2 Q# M•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation * T2 y2 a* G, B  ~
abilities; # f- q# m3 q5 E: A3 q, y: j
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
- K" [8 l% t4 \4 j$ u" SNetworking and Fundraising;
+ x( _0 I, F- S•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 4 ^4 N2 u! v( Y7 Z9 N, ^9 L
and financial statements; and 4 D% v! u9 G% ]4 c4 s
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
3 c! a7 J! g$ A( V: Hcentered perspective.
