The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
& A, Q/ Z0 u$ P6 mthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
8 i- z* c& f( i9 Cthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
! q6 L2 s( ?$ r2 Z9 W& _2 FEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
" @$ X6 ^; C3 Ysurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

# ]; i3 q& Z0 ^% J9 EReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
) U3 C3 C  m% t6 h0 t0 v/ B9 \execution of the YWCA Strategy
! F5 ^) r% D& w6 H+ p3 Q9 }  Y3 h; Z
! @4 ^. n2 c! L$ P0 O# y: iSpecific responsibilities include:  6 f& @& y+ m' h! i" K) b

- @# {9 N2 P* Y0 c, R* u4 a•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 0 _4 j9 x6 [" C% N' `
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
& S% d/ D+ q3 I3 |the Board of Directors;  
. ~# s  b5 t# c6 ]# \! J3 f  f/ H•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
) A( Q* F3 o) S4 ^. Q7 `including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ p7 y/ c3 x) ?; h( {: W7 U
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
% ^$ a9 A, H3 |! P•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
, H& y( I% ?, d9 Y( f# G( Qobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ' U# D& ^+ o' f/ b
the board;  ; V; K4 ^' }# f( a; g* Z
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  3 e8 t: G& J- |7 S  i# D
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( @8 A3 T0 G8 |8 a: y; b: d( Qthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 ?8 j; m$ q' A•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the . m8 b0 T# _0 I
changing needs of the organization and community; ) S  _- g* @2 f2 y& S: b
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ' I8 R. C: J$ `1 t5 A4 a% j) [
commitments;
* R" x. o% D5 A. _, M& p* I% X•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;    i( Z( F3 n' z# P6 ^( W% P( o* g" l
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 6 n2 }7 Z5 z' \( x; q: k
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
! b0 g8 ]4 @' V# t•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 8 A3 S3 a: f2 a$ {1 H1 }! l. n
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
7 X) T0 R( \. g4 L! M; s, Yeffectively and positively represent the association; ! ^7 v" B3 g9 y0 `3 Y

5 n' S' N* v0 [1 l' a8 O0 ^5 D5 r) w•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
' `' N# s" ^; z! M/ U0 g; N) F* Zthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  - u7 k/ P( |4 H# Z5 }
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 1 ~0 M* A5 G- |- B
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
- Y+ t+ v1 W- }8 c2 q7 Gthe forthcoming year;  ! }/ s4 l& X  x) `  K8 e
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical - D, s7 I/ X: M) k1 K  X
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of   g; P2 r) Z& X: X* K2 j
YWCA Canada; and ' F+ f# `+ v! g  y# u+ y
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task . ~3 D/ \& A0 u) x/ u# M0 M
Forces.

2 O, Z5 u- \# W! K. W•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
8 B! A" {. a: K  k5 }4 K•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
/ W( q6 U0 _; s( u. q  j: m7 g( e! i2 `around decisions, plans and actions;
8 w0 X0 o! K& T  f; G1 Q5 E+ f•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
. L( f& N$ C8 k0 C2 M•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
' f/ {" `8 k" D% {. G2 Zand achievable with realistic timeframes; : I$ N* [1 L4 G+ U4 p
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks - m+ t2 X( y- w8 Y" k1 D

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build * m9 S2 e' c% [# b/ d
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
2 ]6 h( U, h; R0 U- W•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
  H4 L/ P0 G0 _" k- X•  Superior negotiation skills.

* P( g* F9 @# m  c" r: U! p•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ' a0 v' @2 ?4 Z5 `

Required Experience " F# r# m/ D! W3 N$ v, s
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; " h  h2 [4 z0 Y/ I* f4 `
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation $ ?% M2 ~( n+ h# j# j! H3 p
abilities; & s" c5 q6 a+ [+ A
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 2 M# |. T$ t" K2 F  W
Networking and Fundraising;
1 @+ g2 P! I, Y6 q7 _& {•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
4 P! C- K5 L3 `and financial statements; and
7 C- {* x7 b% B' N) d0 W, J•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 0 [; r% z; u+ P) F/ |& p
centered perspective.
