The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic # g( l5 a, [+ ?8 C' N4 [  X9 C
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
, {% d% p2 @5 n- L$ {this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
( G3 t% X/ d0 y- j+ h4 W" `Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
* ^- o& o9 r3 [& ^2 _surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
- k- w) z  d6 h% hEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the % s# N4 c" v! z% H7 v3 w  K# E3 ?
community the agency serves.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 1 b  a' v4 X9 Y9 G& `
execution of the YWCA Strategy 3 m; G; ^$ z' v+ S3 S' ^: j

% N$ \2 b9 L9 }7 H2 i" KSpecific responsibilities include:  1 ~$ ~' a- d6 Y2 e2 b* Q3 _

8 |% [8 Q0 S$ Q) u& _* N3 c•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
5 v: n2 U4 u" i" I! ?% q* a0 I8 p: }the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 e2 m5 e' y, i- {
the Board of Directors;  ! D( K. K( j" R8 T  B; P" @
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
/ v7 ]+ \3 c6 U( Q; P3 Gincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
) E- B2 h' Z: r% w  M* i3 M6 yenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
0 ]4 F) Y# H: m: c& V- p•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
5 C6 q3 K9 V9 uobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
. I$ P* Y+ ?$ b3 ~5 o: gthe board;  8 R0 m8 ?0 |# U5 T
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  - L( G% Q( p% S. l% t
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
9 _3 k+ W! K* X8 T% v" ^* ~5 i( Hthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
$ _" m( G& ^/ g. ]- E•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( v! G$ t; V1 x, I; ]/ a; ichanging needs of the organization and community;
) W4 o0 J' E$ f8 [0 R•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue : s4 `4 C! \; E& i
commitments; & t) B0 ~- @( s/ ]
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
- e  {9 U: q5 H•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
! v# D9 J. V( c/ g- Hselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ' y3 ~# s9 P3 N, K: @8 l
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 7 K( m, |$ h% T4 F& H& {  S
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to + O- H9 J4 u5 H) ]6 {
effectively and positively represent the association; " d8 {1 a, \  D" p$ A4 d9 Z* {- L

* C, {# ^" q* Z8 r: m4 L* n•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ( u; t, ^6 f8 Y4 I! S; p& d$ H
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  3 c3 ~7 U3 _0 {' c/ g: y; M
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 7 _: y7 h+ [4 S7 ^/ R5 F9 ^! A
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 2 A4 \8 k: X! X( E; m$ |
the forthcoming year;  2 T4 r* |$ e7 ?) a! f* p( F
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
0 z0 H# {9 v" E; ypractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of # p; f1 s5 t# U2 m: Y9 X
YWCA Canada; and
# j4 x6 }6 E2 P2 ?( X- U•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 1 d. A0 h/ V3 ^" Y* U

Required Skills & Abilities
5 S, d7 M7 \& {# k2 }•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 8 z+ r2 @, o  d% x, Z8 g
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
9 r9 d4 Z/ B# G# h' k# g•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable / }0 B' d" s  F1 `3 h+ ^! C! g
and achievable with realistic timeframes; % ^0 F; y7 [* }
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 1 ]4 l+ @8 B1 D( A$ ~8 j

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 9 q, i7 f. A* Z4 g9 g9 f( j- `

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification " ~8 }' m7 |" u: K2 n4 w0 P
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 5 U& C6 O, Q$ n. F1 w" w
+ o2 w. e" H$ i. M2 a
Required Experience   E* a( a! S/ z0 U# ~& d- F1 B% N
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
. i; e  s1 g2 }2 n•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : g+ g1 |' c5 j
abilities;
* @* j& l+ `+ k4 U# ?- t6 {! n+ g3 b- G•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, : T5 S3 g( m' |
Networking and Fundraising;
% i/ g1 m2 n0 R) a9 w& b, K5 }•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ' Y% Y! k2 k5 M5 Y9 n# J3 c
and financial statements; and
5 L' c7 [/ K5 f9 U8 r: V5 R•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
% V3 N9 r* x- w6 b( Scentered perspective.
