The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

5 M9 Y: M2 P- X7 T& ithis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA $ u& s, L1 t" {' W0 r
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and / O- ~2 _, f% n' u. j3 H
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities / o, R6 H6 G6 C* J; N2 u

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
3 K* d2 d7 X; l/ L  Uexecution of the YWCA Strategy
- ^% v* n7 E; p5 Q) k
; o! A- }) w7 ^" E! k: t2 D* _. nSpecific responsibilities include:  
2 I% W% q$ i8 | & X. I" G3 c) }4 |; E$ \
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of $ v; a) ?/ L3 o* b8 A  M
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ' a- v* r9 {9 v4 d9 W% o
the Board of Directors;  
6 V5 E- |5 H9 r•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
. n! }4 P3 x0 i6 I2 a% Gincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 9 M2 G3 I! O0 Q# d- i
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ N4 f0 f( y1 {- c/ V# ~•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
7 `! z1 A7 z/ p; z( |objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
$ A" ^  W: o- [  F6 F" o5 Dthe board;  
1 K+ ~$ e. e3 n4 I/ t•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  $ C( ~' u/ L8 z9 ~% A
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ) [1 R& e, @* y0 h; W
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 0 J1 ]. t5 v# p; v
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
7 y4 _) Y# t( m# {( w4 ?  gchanging needs of the organization and community;
( u* {0 i, h% m* i3 c* R•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 7 p( C" p; b8 F8 d$ I3 q+ ^* B; {
commitments;
% z3 [# B9 @- w/ Z  G/ F: U( v1 p•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;    y4 g4 h1 X" j3 U
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ! h4 Q% M5 o- W  C
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
. z+ w' ~7 ^2 C7 n8 J# s: ?% y" f•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; / `# i) B' |. S8 G: s9 z' O' I6 l+ L
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
7 F) v, d* G# q; leffectively and positively represent the association; * }8 f2 F: M' X" a! t
$ t& E, w0 Z  V5 T" \
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
, F$ v- Z1 z# S' M! Z* w5 u- |( W- wthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ; r0 m5 a: o! D
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
8 {$ `3 Y( C, q1 ^performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( P' k! P7 R  ?7 T2 y, m
the forthcoming year;  
& l8 z4 z! k: {8 y$ h) h4 U$ K•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ; [9 w  H/ u  @5 y+ B( G
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
% Y; n9 r0 T5 m: @' P& M2 ~# hYWCA Canada; and
4 z( \9 T  t+ u7 P3 Y•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
' B) t* H, Z2 `; P8 CForces.

Required Skills & Abilities
  y6 m( U3 N9 f$ r: R" V•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 7 [- a$ ]- w4 r! Y9 d5 A3 w7 B- Y3 \
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
$ t3 K7 j! z  C7 caround decisions, plans and actions;
3 J+ [& I9 |5 M4 e0 X•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; # k1 T7 \9 U5 D; v, m( F& ~7 {
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 2 i6 X: g5 I" f6 F9 f
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
2 Y/ _9 V8 }4 }/ `•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 7 h! n6 S/ \8 F1 K/ H8 Y6 ^
simultaneously;

Required Professional Designation / Certification ! V7 B: f- M) z8 \7 Q, `& f
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 D; M- D. r" l# d
+ W4 x6 R: m9 M. l8 r7 |
Required Experience ) {' m% q( }% N3 @4 r, l
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
: J9 {" T: u  Y# E& b•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation % c6 M5 A) M0 V
abilities; 9 i7 k+ \8 ~+ j  r" P* q3 n" O
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
2 ?% }+ o  E: v3 d8 m4 ~; YNetworking and Fundraising;
8 O# d& l: _. c4 w8 w•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ) ~0 R& r, B, G7 A+ C$ y& J
and financial statements; and
7 I# h$ P0 ^- V: S  y1 m  E, C•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
