The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

8 K, l1 ?; q5 @" Gthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA . Y. u/ @" G" V
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 6 Q5 o0 M" j! u/ n& M( _
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 9 b, F+ I$ z( J# g* n0 O
execution of the YWCA Strategy
) s9 j0 J* h( r4 f0 `. r / [# [( U4 Q8 }; r9 b! _
Specific responsibilities include:  5 @" X5 N% `- z; }5 d/ y* Y2 f
8 G4 N% ^0 R# m. b" W( P4 l3 |
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ) [" f( x; O" R/ [9 U$ I
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
. m6 K9 l! b3 C; W+ @the Board of Directors;  ; }! n' _# q: |( O
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
" f/ o, i" i/ H& p" Y! P6 dincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
: I( V7 G/ L! k9 q/ c; Denable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
) G5 e, z# l+ v. C) q5 ?. D6 |6 w•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and # M, @6 @4 }" |9 e7 g0 s
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
$ ]& B; _# ?8 fthe board;  
6 C$ i% U2 L# K# M/ r# N) t•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
' Y* I% _9 ^" j" v! ~•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ) n1 F4 i/ A/ T8 I" `1 {3 s
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
# H, M9 {1 \; r7 Q! r6 h•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 1 e8 v+ d! z4 G
changing needs of the organization and community;
& t1 I! n& o; I' u# K•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
  q) }0 E3 X/ T3 g+ C$ `& hcommitments;
, x6 P9 F% z: U•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ! V; H$ m. f6 N$ Y8 N
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective # ^7 y* h8 y0 L2 |* B0 p# m
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  / o$ M- L1 _! o" m6 {  R/ Z1 t
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. B4 t" j8 T  V1 H& G•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
3 C6 i/ W9 @2 v+ u) r3 Keffectively and positively represent the association;
, K* o4 n# H8 b0 ?4 A) I3 i% `( c' K' w
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
1 |/ }9 Q' G' O- \% b5 ~/ p4 @the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  7 r  w" q$ r8 M4 n2 S; F) Z4 O
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ( P% K& [* p) S, D; Y
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED / r# ?! G# N0 }/ O6 ]
the forthcoming year;  
+ X4 X2 h6 A* g' z' @•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical , l" C; ^8 k7 A8 w
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 5 D$ x# g( t. m- q" J- A
YWCA Canada; and
: G" l2 d; G; Z7 W•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task " c8 ?5 Q- B7 U/ E

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
. H, Q, U( g+ T' M  K  ]•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 2 ^9 W  w$ m; U4 d. E4 h7 c7 a! x& V
around decisions, plans and actions; 1 D9 I1 X( p% g) t4 ~% k
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
8 r7 o* L; h# \- G. C7 _•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable % h  Q$ r! l% j, H& z! I) `
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 8 U) J) ^2 J0 q; E  Q
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 2 H, N3 r3 Z( M. C+ _* F2 F& v# g
simultaneously; ) w0 k" R1 G' I/ P" H9 c; G
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ) s; P$ R2 ?6 p( V
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ( E6 A7 l0 D$ ]* I' \- n
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and + q" v! L$ w3 n0 F  b' N! D
•  Superior negotiation skills.

3 T; V1 \. C1 L5 I" |- E' C Required Professional Designation / Certification
$ k8 K" w- B2 z8 S•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
% Q) u* W6 Z3 x+ D' b/ g& H: E 4 [( y7 H; i: U+ b2 w
Required Experience & t$ E# X  `/ `' ?  R& C
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 1 `: R  L/ r$ ~
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation - z: n6 C& }! A: D
abilities; , h. C, O% p4 V) P5 x& |1 N
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, / r% b: O: A8 y# T
Networking and Fundraising; 0 u2 ^" w+ L8 L
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
6 m4 i& L( X" b- dand financial statements; and
( w6 M3 p6 }- q8 @•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
9 k3 Y) g- z9 }& ocentered perspective. / p- O- T8 g$ C; a. [7 Y; R
