The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
. r2 b5 u0 S, ^9 Kthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead ) M& p1 Q/ z9 K+ k
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA + E" h) x6 B% m' r' Q6 x
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ) x# V$ g+ M, x
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

7 Z. @" P! ~3 }" O: i( pReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
% w: M$ K, R# ?! s. U! w3 A; W4 }execution of the YWCA Strategy
% V1 h) z5 i* i/ p
# T: N; L- v; g: t  v5 d) fSpecific responsibilities include:  
8 ]. y6 U; a! a% x  A+ x  h. F
  t# ?, @6 O8 b; q. v7 U•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of & j( R% Y+ n" Y/ @. |6 F/ l1 D- `
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by $ W1 {( C0 w) L
the Board of Directors;  , _: [: K# |3 F% V
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
7 b. f3 q. Z" M) y  y; G7 ]including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
" w2 `% l' b; ^& P9 `/ Aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & K. K6 H) s2 }3 R8 P
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
4 @/ W0 _% s9 _( {/ a: `objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ' o& I: n! m% y/ V9 G3 c
the board;  3 x- r- Y. x2 j
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  $ [! G, r+ x, L9 a! u4 O! M$ s
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ) l8 e( Y( K) C4 p1 Z
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
- K9 P7 V7 K/ @3 ?3 A3 r6 n( M•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the $ `0 G8 N1 f% |* o0 A
changing needs of the organization and community;
# g/ a+ h. @, r% b* f1 r& Z5 a9 Q+ m* W•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
9 i7 p+ Y5 P& [# R7 v' Q0 \commitments; , T- n- i4 ]8 w  I: a
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  5 S; ]; Y4 k  R% _
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 3 }7 W& T% S; X: i" Q4 S
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
0 u6 ]8 f3 X8 Q" Q•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ( B; \' O- ]# R' u* Q$ u7 b
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
4 T. f+ P% ~, v  b( r$ m9 beffectively and positively represent the association; 2 ~# C# g7 B& ?, A. y7 K2 Z

# O: p* `5 D4 Q  @" e5 o' E: v•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ; q5 }  D! i* r4 v
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;    n8 Y% {& T% }- H, Z! M# t
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal - [* ~  w/ t+ Q( i9 ^/ m
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED , ^2 G* r" p/ x
the forthcoming year;  
1 p1 p4 n* d' o7 ]8 E•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 5 Q/ c/ M  [5 d  _0 \/ y
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of # v" l! ?8 P* F3 R& d$ N6 y
YWCA Canada; and ! A, o+ m7 m6 ^6 c: A
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
# v% \8 l' `) f8 o3 ZForces.  4 O6 y1 m+ s/ Q

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; * s. Q/ q3 T" j) Q
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

Required Professional Designation / Certification
; X! M0 w: x$ K1 Q  |# j•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. / B9 c& f2 w  t6 y. d
( l6 O1 G( j+ p4 O
Required Experience + _! `; X1 L* P+ `- T
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; / }8 N7 M2 l5 H+ q" z/ e
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation % n: \* D% S% H- S0 ?
abilities;
; u. ^% b+ y0 C* }& v( c•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + X/ S) x/ w# f4 O  ?( E; R8 b  V
Networking and Fundraising; ( |* Y2 L! _  k) |* G
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting % }$ }$ o3 X. e1 g
and financial statements; and
) h1 t4 Z! m/ w•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
+ U9 J" l! g$ |+ \+ G" Qcentered perspective. ; b+ H$ q. G% s2 g% b5 p. L2 P
