The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 7 c7 Z1 @' a$ `2 c3 U( u3 \
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead   K" X& R' i0 n
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
5 P$ C. V8 p7 Z9 @! KEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 9 b) n* w' n! ^: n% v
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
! W- ]/ a) |* f$ R$ |  gEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the $ W# ?; v: q& \/ l3 Q/ P

6 O9 v& j9 q9 e. eResponsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
+ o5 ^1 P5 y. w1 ^- ^execution of the YWCA Strategy / R4 ]- K& C9 l! A  G

& C- x7 R% A9 E) y! hSpecific responsibilities include:  
9 {, G0 W4 X% [' X; z* g
3 E# g4 ^  D- V& p•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
0 q! W$ I, `9 d, o* y3 jthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
, U+ q# Q4 F+ z( jthe Board of Directors;  % S: r" Y$ G' {9 H; d; i# W& g
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 6 z* O' T" U! }6 O' T- Y9 u% \) m
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) h# Y" E" i' I
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; + j3 W9 V6 e/ p
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and & g! P! P( S7 C, T# [
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
; I* S; ]2 d5 M, vthe board;  
8 ]9 u" s0 F1 [' g2 s9 R, `7 o•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  0 p% T" A) _' D5 P' d1 I3 c
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 7 F  B5 o+ k( p- {
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; @1 E. z8 B7 Q% Y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the & x( Y7 y' p5 l
changing needs of the organization and community;
8 \8 H* {+ K( W' A+ k3 U•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue : O$ ~6 f/ |& c% k% ^* g
commitments;
/ p# O, m5 m" B•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
. C8 Z: H) t) M' H/ A0 H9 }( i•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
% `9 Y/ y/ j' K- [( F" z; J0 }selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  % V: q+ W9 x& X9 q
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; & k. e: n; f2 P% Z5 q& u  q
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ) m4 g9 N: B) N, y
effectively and positively represent the association;
: w! F6 E7 b1 _& @5 v5 D3 {! e$ n# o5 d' n
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. Z% V$ R# S7 ^  T$ `  cthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  + L! P9 P' ~9 D% X" m
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 3 c1 i- r+ m$ j1 {. z
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
! V# x3 |+ n' z* m" B1 athe forthcoming year;  
( h! P# p- `1 _; K2 x2 f5 |•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 5 |) ~; J3 Z- r5 u
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of : G' l6 [# a1 X9 |7 ~- X
YWCA Canada; and
# I. S8 D1 q3 Y) W! F•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ' |7 b& D- D, w! ?0 u) Q/ T5 \
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
/ v- ]/ @  Q* W•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
. T8 T. F; z4 S* \% _* S•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
0 T4 p/ W! L, S& Laround decisions, plans and actions; " z: t2 a* C% F: L
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 9 n  J% m' U4 t# k) X( _
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
9 v1 M- @$ Z. b" L+ [$ z, a& yand achievable with realistic timeframes; 7 ?" k3 c9 w9 G7 q
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
) U  E4 |; c! n% V; I2 I+ I( Isimultaneously; # v/ V) H' Y% r% G. \! F; l
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build : A  ?9 D, u( D+ v6 j! f, p3 f
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; / t6 U7 q, s3 }  S% z7 x# J
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
5 d1 n0 j, H3 U, |; h# [+ ~•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
+ h$ f( J# T' u( J9 k- c2 h•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. : z- ]( o& B: l0 b- u# l

4 r; w* j6 m% G  @( K% Y$ W, pRequired Experience
+ [  z7 N; ]- H* e( m0 ^9 ?6 A•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 4 M) |' M$ z+ f9 p. A' i
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 7 u' f- G* C: k  _2 G
abilities;
( ~' x0 x/ l9 f•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ; z$ c+ {6 w! a
Networking and Fundraising;
1 h" C3 y2 K& t! u•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 4 }1 M8 }/ W- z2 e7 M
and financial statements; and
3 }9 _& ]' p/ m8 s•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
9 V& a  N: |; T9 }centered perspective.
