this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
# f3 L: j( o) m# E! T: IEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and " a4 ^& v' \, C
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ) M4 O5 O* r. _$ m
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ' Y* n. |9 A! M' E3 @# \

4 [7 ?/ I# L; s  R+ S) Q, _Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and / ^; ]: o9 t- b) L+ P5 v! a' S
execution of the YWCA Strategy % M  j5 d/ s$ F3 Y
+ c, G$ s( P  d; o: l
Specific responsibilities include:  . P# S/ F% f' @# B( ]( ]& X  p: j
2 U% P# _; L; \  i! [
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, [/ {) G+ R; n/ ~# K* K5 bthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by   \+ j' g1 @( l: c8 K
the Board of Directors;  4 Z1 h! u% h9 t* N+ Y7 @" N
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations / w' V4 c8 M" v5 D: k9 M
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
% S6 l2 ]  _7 d: ?4 h# c9 y6 [enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;   z, Z. J8 Z- k/ `9 {/ |8 V
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
5 [* `; h6 y$ [0 B/ T$ i& Gobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by $ G/ M5 z+ x+ T1 c. W; L4 Z
the board;  
$ U9 Q4 _' W5 R9 k( l' X$ ]% [  Q•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  + I9 D) R8 W( ]! ^1 V1 z
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 1 Y: M" k  k" t& E/ N: N
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 0 q% O7 p1 ^6 X" E! {) ]
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
' D2 R4 Z6 v: w2 achanging needs of the organization and community;
! B3 Z7 P& d0 q* G7 v4 o6 E  i•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 9 c" k. S# C6 C, j' T
commitments;
7 B% E. N6 z( c•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  / N, e0 o8 Z. v5 J  T
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective + [, N; L6 j; g# {: g. L
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
5 U, t! X1 s% u•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
9 X; q' ]- s4 c8 `# Z) r•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to : f' N5 z8 v$ J/ g& I. i) I: ?8 d
effectively and positively represent the association; / O/ y, I9 V! E
8 M3 D8 H& p* B$ l5 i# E
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
/ X. |' S/ u" V6 y" @  R- y$ Dthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  & b) P( w  a+ L. ]5 s$ U
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal + S! r* u/ w3 A+ [) r! l* @
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 7 P  h' e5 E7 \% ^
the forthcoming year;  
$ `" \, D7 v& C+ B) C  W5 ~; S•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 K" `" Y& i& Spractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of / B9 J6 A; _6 e. h; l7 `
YWCA Canada; and
3 A3 j, P& z3 N, G4 v7 ~9 ^•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
, J( A& Z2 |; `- ~% q7 \  rForces.  ; L9 F' R, f6 `+ B
  
. Q; x: }8 G3 VRequired Skills & Abilities
& f& b5 \$ K0 M7 m1 V•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; # @- W7 n( a6 u$ Y
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
- Z( K5 Y: `# G* A  p5 varound decisions, plans and actions; ) b  h7 y+ L: ^: u
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
% u* i! S" `2 Y9 _; D0 R' U, i•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 3 B$ w% ~9 ~. q; y& M
and achievable with realistic timeframes; - g% {' p0 J) ]0 ^) {- a
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
2 z! I$ D" u( p% V! @2 g% C# w1 ysimultaneously;
  `! i4 X* p7 y* M( K$ X  u: h•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build * M  c3 F. H5 S) T- O6 w- \
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
* e" ^* h9 o" s/ [4 V•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
3 h* U( U  F9 g6 @% J/ L: Y# d3 L•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
) _# ~# S7 n( Y* C7 `•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
1 ]3 A( b4 n4 R, w+ G: ~/ X7 g
4 B# m( G4 f( w$ v9 M1 Z4 ]: XRequired Experience
* A! H4 O0 }6 v1 J5 }2 {4 K•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
# C& S% t, t' j" T6 m: I0 {* {+ @•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation & f% J1 p1 c7 t) Y6 m' ~
abilities; * Y$ p0 b2 c5 X3 z" \' B
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
- _# O7 N$ q$ l7 E4 TNetworking and Fundraising;
8 _8 R9 L! D4 f3 ?& Y•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 8 v$ u) Y4 r+ G) d* V, n8 |
and financial statements; and # A, N0 D4 [; b
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women : I  O5 [7 F  l3 _! ]
