The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic * R. `8 \0 C9 D5 c4 ^
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead " w9 H. j  b; f7 u5 h
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ( O' c$ r  N- Y( L* s
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ) |. W- U( d5 f$ f8 Q( A1 d
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 7 q' T- o6 x' _0 g9 _' f1 @
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

6 \# K* q# ^( P$ g3 m& \2 N# w# c3 [Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and + O& v  ]% c4 Q2 @
execution of the YWCA Strategy / w! b8 d7 I/ {5 P

4 o: g9 ^; Q) |% }7 {" o9 O! j4 v- |' z* BSpecific responsibilities include:  
9 D: H  _. |5 R / Q) ~! V# I. q  B9 C3 c2 _
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 8 P1 i4 v8 [4 r. ?& O# ]# o
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
/ n" d5 E2 ?- P0 Mthe Board of Directors;  
9 q6 ~: L6 R& w& l( t•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
1 }- |) _. z9 L% O0 y- Tincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , N" v) d0 I( v+ W
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ' l5 j) j. {7 m! N
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and / O2 @$ r* [# u& z0 r' a" s9 b; L
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ( h0 I. L1 G( q9 z0 T/ _# |; ^
the board;  ! t* x: H) x4 T
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
' m- N" o! ?* A. s' C% _7 p•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
4 V: |0 g+ }" f% ^; H% lthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; % o1 ^5 F% B  }, k" |& p' m" C
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( q$ C0 c0 s: g7 @2 t* y( Z1 q. V$ Dchanging needs of the organization and community; 7 O/ {, j3 w4 O' N+ O
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 4 L* |9 q2 w" [, E$ b3 B
commitments;
7 z% X. b' D: v•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  & X7 r1 Z! U# j( ^, m( R) j! k
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) P+ S% r+ e1 W0 `& K  l2 I6 Uselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
- u' w+ }% C" s% e% P2 g•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
! `' z) v: v' ~6 W•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ; {, ~/ \+ B1 c( x2 N
effectively and positively represent the association; / h2 [( v8 n  |2 W$ L) r, ]' J

# {# y" p8 L/ j( \/ V( d•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 f' D+ \0 ~' \" q& I
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ! M0 l' q& H- O
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 g7 R) z7 L8 j& jperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED * P$ E: z. v* J
the forthcoming year;  : j3 E& K* ]  g8 {+ J1 H# s
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
9 }! h% j; G3 G/ Apractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ( q- S0 f; M: J4 n
YWCA Canada; and
% e% \4 b& v$ n3 }; x. K0 W•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 R1 ~8 C) |# k, B( ]2 t, X

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ' B9 m: H3 g3 x7 @: w! J6 ]; W
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
, Q9 n3 N, a$ P+ Qaround decisions, plans and actions; % G7 N! d7 w8 K! j7 b
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 I; d% i- c& m# C$ O+ `, f0 d' l
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ( @4 ?' q) k+ i1 W! t
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ! K% Y: ~1 s8 R# Z  F2 w
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks $ A' F" R  u. g0 H
simultaneously;
' J% x8 ^) T  V( v•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build   H/ \' A1 K, D' e/ ^! `2 o
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; , e4 J, |, N* R
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
  f0 t1 L2 ~; j) M. \•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification ' a( X! r) b/ ?, K2 y& t9 o4 _
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
5 n6 Y! q) K' `5 B( o  | 4 v  C6 J3 S9 W+ C0 m
Required Experience
  m* O  e# O. j5 m3 `•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 3 d) N" n3 Y0 e+ H# `1 m  |
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation $ f' R% X+ C3 w( o' e$ H5 I1 @
abilities; - D! ^8 d" `* f1 y' l5 m6 m3 N; p
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 7 Y# p$ R: x5 H) s7 q  K7 K
Networking and Fundraising;
2 c! ~% o) c! i& X4 |•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
2 I9 d. _& \2 k: @) `9 Pand financial statements; and
2 _/ v( Z: n7 {8 g" ]. w$ Z•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 8 L; u0 V8 Q( Y& @) @
