thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
. L% y0 Z3 w) P0 s2 zthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
) x# |+ b1 ~- jEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 0 w7 l& F$ z; m- }  X% q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ) D7 r, i9 I4 l7 S) d
execution of the YWCA Strategy
" k& `, ?3 R/ [  Z. O
1 l( L9 ^1 L# @2 M7 SSpecific responsibilities include:

$ m5 w$ {: i5 p& j+ [1 N•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of - \$ h, J, r  r% R# j
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
! p3 \2 q3 A+ I6 @0 e1 o2 z3 E; jthe Board of Directors;  0 _7 w3 U% d: I' _
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
/ e1 u# H" Y0 U  s8 k8 c( D/ dincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , Z; c4 k: C) c5 V7 n9 @- h" Z& Q+ h
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
1 B2 d: N  S: y* T•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
8 F4 v: t: Q' t' V7 q  }objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
  G/ l0 f; Z1 g$ t" `# dthe board;  
. Y" J, r3 Y+ n  |- R6 T•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
2 c& _/ H! D" o' {7 i& Z7 _•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
5 _$ X, }* j9 A- e7 ]9 xthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 3 `! w5 C/ x- X
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
- h9 Z7 A" {- Z- bchanging needs of the organization and community; % w0 j0 `$ [) R+ r7 N8 i0 Y) M
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue % g' x% j' z/ x! q' V
commitments;
6 }3 x: D4 w& c/ L•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
5 o4 C: @! _: f- K; D  ?•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 0 I4 [; f- r4 U, D
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
5 x7 J6 [6 G; _9 f  {•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
8 q% m. Z$ C: z0 d! H•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to - d3 [; n/ \8 @5 @# Q% g0 w
effectively and positively represent the association; 0 n2 U8 {' B+ F0 m0 C7 e

$ }1 T! ]9 [+ w/ `( Z5 W: r1 m( d5 _•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
7 H4 d' w6 c; T2 p7 ~# y7 I( Tthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  2 m2 A) s( U! x3 ^+ M) S9 e
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 b; B! K. j4 mperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED + X$ `# D$ h+ O: P7 z
the forthcoming year;  
' G6 i/ ?7 W( i' P& b2 ~•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
& q- \1 \- O  J( ppractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
2 N' ?( Z, S( N# ]. `YWCA Canada; and
0 C/ Y- @" s1 b" Z8 B•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 v* H! j" M1 n' C; X
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
' f$ j4 [! G7 V- q& C' |•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

around decisions, plans and actions; ! X9 [2 |' U$ A! P
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ! R7 u* u1 s/ J5 s
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ; \3 \* C0 _8 B8 G$ x$ l8 r% w1 i2 {
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
# z0 j. Z: ~* e& Q: q3 X•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ( k# Y$ B* Y. j
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
# u/ e0 O6 E5 X8 B•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and # T' S9 V( k2 u) S
•  Superior negotiation skills.

+ O7 ~: Q, c; u. q4 t* Y2 ] Required Professional Designation / Certification
6 I' n3 p+ A) c+ E; b8 s4 f" c•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
2 P5 Y3 ?% z) ^0 t3 X$ R5 x . w* K4 w4 o; c: i, X& c9 {
Required Experience ; d, W" \% h8 k; Z7 s4 J1 }2 }+ v
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; - B" G. F5 W, N
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
2 ]/ v1 H* z- F; L2 s/ fabilities;
4 ^7 Y# G3 w4 |9 E  e•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
9 ~5 Q5 `, W: ]4 {! JNetworking and Fundraising;
/ d" T/ j. i. m# M$ E1 d# w•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
. Z2 a2 [7 _) H7 p/ \and financial statements; and
) n2 O3 h) D- G7 w•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
. m9 q8 N0 d  Xcentered perspective. 3 j, A5 R' Y' ^0 x
