The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ' t1 c" O% b4 g( {) O
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
3 v! ?* p# R. E9 T7 ^( @, q2 q! i: lthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA $ q0 v/ _; b4 j
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
4 z7 Q: T- ]1 J. j0 zsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA + G8 K$ W' w7 H& k& C- H- `
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ' T! L, U- `" j* Q% s4 _
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities 9 i% h7 a* O/ t0 i9 f5 b

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
1 o) m$ l- y1 Qexecution of the YWCA Strategy / q% ^* h$ h9 e3 r4 V; g, \
3 d) O: K. u( V+ T/ z2 @
Specific responsibilities include:  3 A( v$ k5 t) t! |! L5 \5 C
# m! L1 ?  P, j/ H
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
& Y0 [- ]! V4 j& ?$ O7 xthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
: Y+ X" L" `9 D' m& \5 T. `4 zthe Board of Directors;  
6 \$ j! y$ y4 r( R•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations * c9 U7 T9 ^  |) f0 c
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
3 r! I0 ^! a% A# ~' Q7 M+ ]! Yenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
" q2 M4 V( ]3 }' t1 A- ]' }•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
4 K+ K5 l4 ^- n# c$ f/ S# c7 J$ [objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
" @) V/ N$ V" h9 U. pthe board;  7 _4 l9 q- X- t( W+ n' M
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
: G9 U4 j9 Z( J/ i•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
  _  l8 d; _; u2 V7 gthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
, j0 ?  ^2 L# e' J0 d•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
7 R/ V) D+ D. e( V+ [2 M) l/ v! Xchanging needs of the organization and community;
3 M8 w( p  N" {•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue * a/ a' q' `5 L8 w- J2 C$ d
commitments; 7 H) {! L4 [% z. g% x  r$ S
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ! {7 |: L: n. U6 B
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective * }/ g' u5 j$ i$ @3 [6 B9 f
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
9 L, U4 b5 S4 f, O/ ]8 Q•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; / |- Z9 a, x8 t! w, x
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
& J, r3 q9 Q  teffectively and positively represent the association; 7 }. J+ ]3 p8 U

/ W- ?2 s# ]* {/ R4 S" _•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- t! j# y. x/ E7 w4 Y3 s* bthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  3 n2 H9 y8 t7 S. l7 V) r$ U
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal   s5 u, j6 z3 J- e9 h
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 2 ^2 ?4 e# C6 U
the forthcoming year;  0 a( n) M6 r5 ]* E3 y! }( R+ C
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
. e, c7 D, ^7 ypractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
$ X' s, S+ \1 K% V! E, VYWCA Canada; and
% [) p, }& @) D9 h•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; " Q& ?$ Q2 w/ g- e
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus % [( T3 v# s& G" s8 U0 h
around decisions, plans and actions; 3 |+ Z( a- N/ _0 E% R% R# A' h
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; % }+ j; u& z$ L, z' o5 G" [5 q" [
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 4 P) c, c9 f( H: o/ {1 N
and achievable with realistic timeframes; . F7 T0 x. Z7 j
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& l& H' \3 Q- O1 Z: p1 b9 wsimultaneously;   \- D2 @7 C8 ?; O( t) n
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
2 N- b  G6 A* ~rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
+ f% O/ R2 @( {  M4 P•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
9 ~& ~7 N4 }% u1 L7 o" h* ]•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
; w0 Y0 H; n6 z, H9 f: S4 u* y# K•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 ?) B' P( B' c4 i; B$ R( |
# G8 T8 T; ]) C: L
Required Experience 5 J4 w1 }; q* Z8 ]$ T
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
$ F5 W' P, Y  H- w' _•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation & `9 O2 C3 X) J
abilities; " G7 ?" C' p- W7 ?" ~
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 1 X: f. V4 i8 h$ ]; [
Networking and Fundraising;
: B/ K. p& |! L7 I8 R•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
5 E% \$ c) L# dand financial statements; and
( Y1 V0 T- P. x* e0 E. S•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women : S# ]8 L  B7 E
