The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic $ Y3 d, q8 ^: ]7 ?5 N& H4 M
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 0 y; f8 \2 g5 f+ d
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
7 U2 f8 q0 p( @  M' ~Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 0 `9 d$ P7 H" m8 \
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA * o! j! ]. X* N; N
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

2 h2 h+ A2 N8 R1 a' R7 z& I$ FReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
2 w/ p# u- s3 y, kexecution of the YWCA Strategy ; r0 G, |  A# e! K' _) D
! S4 g% @) i+ J8 Y! y- S6 H" e/ X& _
Specific responsibilities include:  " I' m+ Z% `* V$ a

9 }2 u  H9 d5 m! P•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
' \( }4 @' M% ]  k& G: athe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 4 I! h3 Q) W' V; G8 _8 n4 ~9 p
the Board of Directors;  
, E6 ^; v& f8 `•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
6 \  I2 H$ [3 N* y, c. Aincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 7 _: Q3 ?- O0 S! z; W7 ]5 J
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
, q" H+ r- P2 t: g•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
1 Z8 \$ h- o2 |; ~" u% tobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by " G1 V, p' P$ J! y( W: I
the board;  
* d- A8 K1 {( R# ~" g7 i4 L•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ) ^" W" a8 v% M, s) I
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
' o' D; O. ~/ n# I3 F0 I2 o1 ?the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 1 r3 f% s6 B8 N# X& n# r
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( ]6 ?* V1 T9 d8 O+ A/ x4 v5 i5 S9 s7 `changing needs of the organization and community; + R+ h% n: Q/ L# G( \
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ' _+ R+ \  R; S
commitments;
* K/ K; ^: |3 s8 W# v. Q•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
4 \* e& s6 y8 N) V: b6 d4 k•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective   l/ B) L# b: K0 Y/ X# i2 p
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
3 _; \2 \! V2 x0 h: @5 B- F•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
% s6 ^4 ^% b; Q: D* E6 U- [  d4 G•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 3 k0 ~) q0 r. r4 O# P
effectively and positively represent the association;
+ B2 ~) P$ O4 C( A6 T* x9 f" `* ]0 v/ j: j  c6 b
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ; j+ ~! Z/ D& K& ?1 ^; h# x
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
' f$ p) A) u  J$ g•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 3 t  B9 f! }: D% s9 _( ^" W0 W, A
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
& V- I) j7 ~2 s$ V+ Fthe forthcoming year;  4 c8 G  f5 D$ k- f3 U
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical " K) E2 r7 E5 d9 U& y: E6 S
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ( U! V3 O: e9 ]3 G# {2 \
YWCA Canada; and 8 f7 I  F0 X- [0 ^( \. q7 z
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task   X5 l7 M3 K) r

5 r( e+ B! q$ n•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ( C1 k6 i7 ?  t$ @6 L0 J+ f
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
7 {, v& r( }2 i- {% F- x5 y! _around decisions, plans and actions; ; o9 A7 y- J& s$ a. v& d, q
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
5 B0 B; i% N: L8 K9 u•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
+ V2 M* f5 b; q( B6 X" uand achievable with realistic timeframes;
9 H6 o6 T7 _9 K# G•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
, g& S9 O+ n& L" C2 `3 P/ [6 w( ssimultaneously; 8 @6 E7 Y  C: f$ D0 ]  o
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
' c. g4 C- t; r9 Crapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
/ m6 R( R1 [  c5 J1 F, ~$ G' a+ R•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and $ u% \9 {% w! q( k0 i3 ?; S4 F

Required Professional Designation / Certification
$ {2 [) z& V* a' i* o& p3 p! [5 E•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. + B! \1 W2 R: w& K" w
0 d) b- n( \8 o# M9 }6 D
Required Experience
3 p! o# q/ P+ e# c: B! c- ?, y# k8 |•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
, V+ D# v5 t& |: Y•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% f. ]% q! D3 N8 u7 O$ uabilities;
" O5 g$ x3 e$ \•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
, C: G; {0 t& F# V: e" l$ \Networking and Fundraising;
* H6 g$ o2 M1 c7 [  t: ~•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
2 p. [9 c: G( n8 E7 T1 l  Fand financial statements; and
5 F# f! Q5 _% z+ Y4 M- ]•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women + W2 a, c& m% y' p% _
centered perspective.
