The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ( V8 e+ ~, d4 m# m; _/ U
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead # h* b) |  v! s- _4 D
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 5 W, O0 C5 Z4 I6 O" H6 g
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
; y/ X7 w7 G/ m" X7 ?  X* ?surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
; v* K( E9 s0 ~- P % D% _) R, u- g" \+ B# ~% R& g' _/ M
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
; m' m% q; e  lexecution of the YWCA Strategy
: b3 g9 f. ^- ^" Y , w. z9 {% T& a' I
Specific responsibilities include:  ( t! z, O, s3 C; x" d0 ^
9 j2 U. Q  \7 X( a) P2 m% D
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of . H4 v5 G$ L% s8 k
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ( |. ^8 m3 u: G; v+ x
the Board of Directors;  / g9 n/ V! |5 ^
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 7 N1 i9 }0 t( `3 \+ \0 Y
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 t4 j& u+ L) Q
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 3 f1 d# K" [, ?/ W& s$ \
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 2 @* l5 |: }- i
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
) n+ U% w  |% Z" jthe board;  
+ w% I) y6 E: u" |9 e& f•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
3 \' \) }2 r; N4 t  ~( @) l1 u0 x* ~•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 4 f& K5 ?8 b5 |. y& t
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; }/ j' a% ~0 c. T  [& R
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 F" W5 U( ]1 R+ }; M8 H2 y$ Y* y9 Dchanging needs of the organization and community;
: W" _  s4 N2 C  a•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ( ~3 m, n7 F2 O0 S
commitments;
! Y! |5 I0 J' J7 y- `. K- V$ u% ^•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
, ~  @, {+ r7 M5 ~% h•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective + e0 Z  q, ?0 J4 }% f7 t5 b9 e& Q" G
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  , o% B8 L' G& \7 g
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # R* M6 J8 R) r- X
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ ]9 M+ y1 Y) z  g2 ~
effectively and positively represent the association; ! u. V2 O. ?3 g% j
: O4 I) ~1 X1 p- a9 n/ p
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 1 e2 y9 q9 o+ O, {# M  Y
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 j! i7 Y9 o9 p8 P' T* C/ x•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 N1 b( m9 o5 L9 w( Q0 }. Yperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED % D* K: E2 N" M% [/ q
the forthcoming year;  . m4 ?+ R$ B, F+ E- F! E- M, B
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 C1 _* k6 g" [$ J
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 0 P" g( k0 v5 A! a9 C& s# I
YWCA Canada; and , c  d; e1 c6 r3 A
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
' W& W' S( y6 U0 NForces.  - y7 x/ ^. n7 G2 D: E. V

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; # V$ B, V, V$ \% B
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 c& \2 w7 J) [3 J# Q2 S( Q  t
around decisions, plans and actions; $ w+ Y$ u5 M8 |. D# T" p
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; : x* X! z% u7 e7 O
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable , G! d9 N* K7 H( m7 f
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
" ~/ m% s# o8 X( J- y3 u•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 0 w; r- b6 {* G$ ?
simultaneously;
8 |. M" |: M- `( o' E% K( J: R•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 ^$ x3 P0 G1 L5 M* K# u1 k
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

•  Superior negotiation skills. 5 ?, F' }9 p9 m. v# n

Required Professional Designation / Certification
  v+ T' w6 F) g# E3 t•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 8 s- {2 F; g/ H
3 U9 _  a) w% `2 \2 p
Required Experience
& g; K. A, ^! q& X/ i* {•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
" M6 @+ y% z  H/ m5 Z•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : Y) F7 ]& b7 v/ i( a: v
abilities; , A% d9 |/ F+ E$ m7 @; p7 f* q% v6 K
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 9 k) B7 z; N  ~9 U& d
Networking and Fundraising; 3 i) Q! G$ k! m( C3 o
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
' r$ r% p* K! k* xand financial statements; and
, Q4 D/ Y# I' _- f% F•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
; ^8 `1 M+ B1 L# g& Ycentered perspective.
