this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ' w9 Y) u% E# ]) d" r( A: Q
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ; {. e2 t* B( l7 ?. U* X
execution of the YWCA Strategy
  K* k- [* A0 Z# Z * Y/ h+ }; b! G# s% V4 N* z7 f
Specific responsibilities include:  7 X8 I; ]8 ^7 X8 C# U0 P! Z' }

  T/ Q8 K9 M1 F) J•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of & f- V0 J% b2 m: a
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 1 _5 V: F- t3 l. \' U! g
the Board of Directors;  
3 W; \- F+ a7 @' a4 V9 |. D1 V! i•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 1 k3 X, T6 `8 J9 `
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to + Z) p4 j5 t, i7 q4 [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
- k4 d+ Q4 O7 J/ e( N% [  X9 o  }•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
% m8 j! n* d7 ?& H/ C& l! [8 Robjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
) j1 s7 e' d5 sthe board;  
1 x2 a0 ]6 g4 o•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
/ x9 O9 |9 p9 D•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
1 |1 E# N9 {+ @the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 B, E" X0 `% r4 i3 T1 n! N•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
  W  p6 C- U1 J0 \0 M$ |changing needs of the organization and community;
& e6 h5 u7 Q7 Y2 r•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue - J5 [; s6 V# c1 v
commitments; % q3 k& A; Z0 T3 V
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
; I* H# j/ S9 ~& I•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective " F6 z( L4 z1 l+ u9 _
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
  j/ A! W& Q9 P0 m* ^•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
0 R! ?( d- l* [0 z$ D: X  G2 u•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
5 m- g. s7 N. g2 N# |- q' q7 P3 u' m# yeffectively and positively represent the association; 2 x5 y9 ^9 U" ^& p. M
& u, }! I: V# R1 j+ H$ E
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
8 M& y7 Z) E% Uthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  + ]. i% H" c5 Q4 _. y
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 u. j: D9 \# H' w  {* ]+ G7 Dperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
& n  m+ r- t6 B# g2 X5 `8 \the forthcoming year;  
$ K, Z! A+ U  r# P# W4 e•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
+ t4 D. f: V, C; l0 Dpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
3 j9 o# M" u) R% i8 y* y4 o- U6 hYWCA Canada; and 0 }: T7 o! X) @5 s
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
5 m2 c% {$ ~* r: Y, sForces.  
9 X9 N! m  N+ r7 q3 Y- l! ~5 X$ }  $ s* p# A5 l' I" p! R3 Y8 m1 _
Required Skills & Abilities 5 F, B# T: ~4 ^. U3 G+ B7 j
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 9 [# x; O$ z! A) x0 @: [
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus : r$ S/ t6 L0 U7 I6 H
around decisions, plans and actions;
# S# y! R6 o( ~$ {•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 2 P5 l1 ], [, k& }/ [0 K
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
9 {; c$ r& B; {; ], W1 \and achievable with realistic timeframes;
9 c  \  ]& H* o3 S4 J! C9 z•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
+ o: m# }, F0 Csimultaneously; $ g5 [1 E6 ]/ t) ^) c# T
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
% z0 {5 p7 f( o; s5 A% i  Lrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; : b% h( w2 l1 b* T$ T' P
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 9 ^. Y" c& g* f
•  Superior negotiation skills. / n, j1 @1 f- B6 E2 c

0 o, G  u% V8 L6 ~1 I/ |•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ' F" ^( o, ^/ H

5 r2 ^7 E7 [. j" f1 W" N" IRequired Experience 0 p# y) q( `7 B$ P' W  i
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
( \9 M1 I* z2 G0 X•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 @% U/ k" l. p2 S; Q+ O
abilities;
) D* M+ i8 g; T$ P•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
/ A3 u) p; s0 P' z/ ~Networking and Fundraising; / |. s: Y/ C5 ~' d0 J! q
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
0 z. P7 Y7 D& k1 @- F+ ?/ Wand financial statements; and ! g) `& C+ [$ o: g
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
" ~9 O; Z6 b9 v1 r( X) pcentered perspective.
