The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

$ H! @5 Z2 R7 X* [: tthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
$ k3 z: M  i- F) uEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

9 p( I3 t: a3 u. U8 V: rReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ' E& F5 v2 X# b6 P/ L3 |0 Y/ Q
execution of the YWCA Strategy 1 X7 o4 d5 N. l1 R  q& _) d

6 n( T" L- g7 ^: SSpecific responsibilities include:  
4 T+ A# m+ b% L( D5 S7 H
7 ~0 p9 D& R+ C$ ~( B•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
2 }9 J+ @8 r1 M% p5 V" U+ W8 X* Nthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
: u! _7 q: S% s/ Y  j: Gthe Board of Directors;  ; E3 ~; ~* h- N$ O. T
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 6 Q/ ~3 e. a2 {/ E
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
' N5 F: m9 z: J# i7 P) t# ~% Fenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
1 }& ^; F; G; F% l•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and $ O' z; I& s, ?
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
" o; N) q: z6 Cthe board;  7 ^% p) L4 {( E
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
/ R0 H4 R# U9 H/ p9 e) |•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion * d4 }, u/ W3 ?% ~: E. o% c
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
6 i: q# H7 G, N6 O/ N$ Z5 L! R•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 4 ]+ W- k& t* b( H/ @# d( C
changing needs of the organization and community; ( ]! t. R1 _0 y" D
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
. g- J( j9 u$ n7 ncommitments;   b# w$ _& W7 H
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  - ~( B$ a- O# c. t6 `
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; b2 L; ?; n' Q/ j3 qselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
: ^  [4 ^! _3 d•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ! O; K, L$ b! p+ r, v8 F, }$ t; N
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 6 _4 Y/ T3 D! I4 I4 V
effectively and positively represent the association;
, i! n+ f6 W( z
8 F8 W& r5 m; F8 g: g•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 0 e* ^- z. I4 C( D
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
: e0 F9 D8 G% U* _•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 0 ^0 u9 C) n) F3 O" a
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 0 s" ]5 w, N4 w" g/ ]" ?) l
the forthcoming year;  2 q8 C- Y- x% g# e$ W5 f
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
; ~" b! y9 n! h8 v1 W+ r# h5 Zpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
0 p* |  H: g" c% ]YWCA Canada; and ' X* B5 G) M0 q' S7 d5 F( `; P
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
0 ~) r: E6 d1 cForces.

# j4 z3 J( ~5 `8 u4 w•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
, A2 L: I$ _! c* s- {+ x$ b' p$ b•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
' C4 B5 ^* Q4 saround decisions, plans and actions; 7 i- c/ L# I- B' K9 D
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  T, W/ v' |, r9 l$ m7 }•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable / p4 E2 S+ K' A4 x8 F; Z3 Z- ?- n+ `
and achievable with realistic timeframes;   f* U! B  z% X  j. U" G
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks " J, d. V/ \: m
simultaneously;
# G9 X0 u+ x: `, }•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
; l. u9 o* A9 x( Nrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
9 h) X4 v. }8 ], N3 Q' M+ g•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 4 i/ m4 ]# B7 z5 Q6 j- y
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
5 X7 {9 N: Y; q$ z, A•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
7 f# [" o% y7 w+ S- S 2 T% p: a3 F# M4 v' D% d, _8 C' I: w
Required Experience
7 g7 m% r$ Q7 Z  c/ R•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; & J6 P: O. g5 Q# e
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation $ a; f! T6 {. n4 L' `
abilities;
/ s- d: H. R! w+ I9 D8 E8 j•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ! j+ B" c( N& A/ e7 F% A! r
Networking and Fundraising;
& u; h* u0 w$ E" i2 |8 Z% T•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 5 i( u5 B+ V: M9 [
and financial statements; and
! Z! X; n; a, z* @$ g•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women + f3 ~" {" i' n. z2 N  f, {- r. i
centered perspective.
