thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
6 Y! ?8 v: n6 a' c9 |this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
, }  r; Y6 M. `Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ; R& u9 z) s! W& V* d% I
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
" t" H# y! M- u' c( v' wEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ; X+ A8 k# ^9 f+ V1 u$ p

Responsibilities   S3 H6 h" B# O% H4 D

  p/ z7 I5 c0 ]7 W2 z% zReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
& L6 x* ]0 ?; ~4 {" g4 Mexecution of the YWCA Strategy
3 {0 f, S, [7 X0 T; w" j- P % U, ^. K2 p' Q! \3 Y
Specific responsibilities include:  " j" t% `% x% J. s
% Y' `+ j0 ?/ m/ J  o+ G
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, M' T1 [7 d/ N& kthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
& l; p1 b( \$ D' ~8 ythe Board of Directors;  
. L2 v1 C, S$ q" C; K% `4 G•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 3 ]) w/ [" w5 I& g
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to * O. b: x2 u" @% A) Z6 l8 M
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
4 o. w4 p8 a8 }) U•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
# O) L: o  O! _. v% |) ^- P% m) J( F. |objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by : G: m3 Q. {8 {* V9 }( s: ?
the board;  * i/ ^' L! r9 E: d$ q
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  $ P  J. G  O2 f' Y$ |
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
, f( X0 L% Z7 @3 tthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ) E. k0 x2 {& q) l
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ! U* l; V% M) E# {: d+ o0 g
changing needs of the organization and community;
# J  X! {# J0 V8 k1 M•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue # y+ j; X* ~1 b9 o- V( B* T& L
commitments;   ]4 O8 i: ~7 }! l# O: c
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
) ?( P6 M2 T5 j9 n/ D0 _' ~- G•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ; p1 v: |! q9 C4 G
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  0 f* k  F8 q# L- ^
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ; [, f/ p' z  r% _. I
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
' d" n0 t$ ^5 Z, j9 {effectively and positively represent the association; ( X4 t) c2 ?8 a  V
/ q" f! T/ s$ s( d7 e+ s
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. C7 o! F" _2 _. p. R% i; L+ U1 M* Uthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  9 ]9 {& M6 y0 g1 ^. J5 K
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
  A( q8 \7 B7 t. P( H, P3 l( o/ Bperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED " q1 }9 h+ ]7 ~. ?
the forthcoming year;  + c. U$ n+ s% k1 d+ W" O: ]
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
. j1 E; _; t) T' ?7 j9 ~practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
0 c" U3 |. }8 o! E& P3 k7 S, A9 JYWCA Canada; and
8 A' I% b- b6 |: E; [2 Z•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
# o! Q4 w% V- F6 n- S3 {$ RForces.  
  ?8 S' {% u* }# R  b  3 R1 R0 a6 m& q- V
Required Skills & Abilities : R: h+ i3 T, |- P) _
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
! s5 S7 v) z% W•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
$ X+ e7 ?( B1 N1 T5 O/ laround decisions, plans and actions;
9 `! ]& s" W  E# _+ K, ~9 C•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
& @) [- H* Q' g4 c% N$ ^9 v•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 5 Y1 n& _+ a5 ~( U& r
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 2 p9 ?; Y9 h8 ^6 O0 J1 @$ _: k
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks . B4 A5 d1 W. Q" e
simultaneously; 2 g' [5 Y3 l7 V: t6 j! x! g4 ?
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 0 ~. S% b) m$ T0 m! s
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
5 E$ U. R) a- Y, N- v$ o8 t•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
6 E6 g: P& F& H  F& f# N" y% l•  Superior negotiation skills.

# M3 }' K' A, v3 `( G, T•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. - a3 m4 b9 W; a5 R/ L/ ~5 X: b

Required Experience $ R9 X( ?9 \% Y; @
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; . S, p! u2 r  l# S; L, ]! |. V
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
4 V( x* M: U/ E/ B/ Z% R1 uabilities;
9 {; Z$ x8 u7 y+ {; y" C0 \0 V•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
) O" N# r/ A. ZNetworking and Fundraising; 6 m6 V9 k, D  u$ A9 j( j
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting / m2 j8 u# i) V
and financial statements; and ( T: O; E. J, y4 _& R( C! V
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
; s  N( f8 q* ~7 I  f2 B7 J% gcentered perspective. , s- F* U6 a2 }. h; }
