Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 4 p& L: S3 ~9 i$ E2 I
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities

- G) s6 {+ I' U+ V9 l! a2 gReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 8 c# Y9 J  B' o) z
execution of the YWCA Strategy ' C+ w* D" o( s6 U

! o8 F; T+ f  B4 aSpecific responsibilities include:  ) S8 N! n8 t1 p4 F

  D/ ^0 D. B5 o2 {- g9 k: D•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
( u5 |4 s6 I* xthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
$ |) R  ^& \) x+ c. t$ x* v- ?# E( dthe Board of Directors;  
# ?$ g* ^' g0 s7 z•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
& @4 i( m0 X9 A; Lincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
. f8 i5 C5 D& ^; Z9 aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
9 a8 P4 h" }. N+ R8 l4 k•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and , k; h! G7 R7 A7 {* ^- N2 a
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
& Z! W7 h1 }9 j  R$ Q# ^& [the board;  2 m1 F2 B& A( {$ O0 b# X7 N: J
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
2 B9 T8 t0 ?# e•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 5 V; y; n* H# k  \0 t
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; / B& f& U+ n$ _" z2 X
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the " Q. y- A+ J8 q
changing needs of the organization and community; 6 T" h/ E% n- {4 N: Q) c
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ) `+ ]% V* f. o6 s0 [
commitments; 6 `: g% m! k% `9 w9 J/ t
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
& u. j3 n3 b; H•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( u( R6 ]$ r; y: b: {
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ) w* R- I9 |5 s3 `7 c/ N- ~- q2 d3 I
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 8 |* }) G. W; x- k  E; u# o
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to . n; [3 K! \1 E) ^% f( [: B& s
effectively and positively represent the association;
( _9 k) z) U, g1 E- b- ?8 G4 x( ~, |
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 L6 ^; F7 z5 u; p
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
8 x/ ]6 W2 b7 Z! v2 E( q! Z) X•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
% D& h0 p' ?( w4 F. Wperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( [( U, c* n0 M! k# V8 M3 S
the forthcoming year;  % x% u- b7 T3 w7 ^2 W$ m
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical * K. G5 u$ a4 e" j! C
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. |3 x2 c" r7 E$ [2 J2 \0 yYWCA Canada; and 9 w- b+ {  \) I! H# z' y
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
3 l0 E" S5 Z8 t* p6 IForces.  ( E- t2 G4 w& D# y

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
: d3 \( X" [/ h, A) R•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
) K: m  ^+ t) F% V7 B7 T7 q1 W3 Haround decisions, plans and actions;
) ]! L, [% Y* U/ H3 V# s•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 9 t" G' j: B) x6 W' H  @% x7 ^# L
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 5 Z, Z4 o$ A+ v+ j- N' C! R% \
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
* h$ t* o" d+ f1 n# l•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

Required Professional Designation / Certification $ d6 N6 r$ j. `
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

9 O+ `  @. R6 q" i% xRequired Experience 1 l0 h  j& }! ~" e$ y" l  P* `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
- A" C/ N  \1 D. C2 [, K& u9 V•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% f  |& D" p  b6 N; K6 M2 c: r  pabilities;
9 D. \* P: k& W# G•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, & S* ^; W  A  ~
Networking and Fundraising; ! v* P* L$ w7 T; L$ z4 L4 D
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 2 S3 z$ l/ k: o+ u
and financial statements; and 9 a1 ?7 T, A) t3 W$ i0 A
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 2 G. L( |' K$ h, |7 D& w8 A
centered perspective.
