$ z* }# n0 j* bThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
% h5 c# l& y8 S9 Nthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
9 O  q* o  D" X2 [; M/ d! ^this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA   t- u9 X) R/ q. z9 h
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
' C4 Q, b4 c; w# k1 g* n; W5 Ksurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
9 d. N2 B" V1 \) sEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the / k  t" ^5 t! m+ o6 V/ s2 O
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities * u% L% |# Y5 }0 k' Y. g! i. o( Y

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 4 R  n; D0 g! B! j2 z) I
execution of the YWCA Strategy
, T& N+ Z9 v# J - O! t* D* |4 \( {+ Q
Specific responsibilities include:  , A# x2 X* C: n
$ b4 g9 a7 B  |: W/ [5 P
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 0 X) a2 G1 e3 _$ Y, C& \
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 9 h% G1 u8 b, S. I% v) m
the Board of Directors;  5 H/ ~) I1 g3 n+ _( z9 g( |. ~
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 7 V* U: A0 R. {. f
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to   Y7 z7 f$ M! M8 V# j
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
! @6 D+ m) |/ l4 y1 W' W•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
" n5 w* E0 l$ R3 pobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 1 L" r( f& b4 Y( G& U# ~! q- E
the board;  
/ o8 X/ X9 S6 h* P) Y0 G•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
! u4 j+ m: F) H; `•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
' n1 u( }& z) ~( \, H2 gthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; $ k- L. u+ P& ~3 N& \  _1 Y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
0 ~, ?+ w1 i7 qchanging needs of the organization and community; 9 }" [7 P$ o8 [+ X" v4 W$ ?
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
! w6 ~0 n( {8 c9 _/ E& Kcommitments;
/ q, |- }# T1 ?- ^. ^( ?6 S7 }•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
$ z, b5 u! g$ x& Q" o, K•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
1 ?6 o7 f+ v& I8 w8 e8 V3 L/ Pselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  8 G) N- {' V) U5 h, S' ?: d' z2 S
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; % z+ \' Q$ g( W' P$ D- j
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
: N( |% \2 g; }& Eeffectively and positively represent the association; : u. A5 m9 C6 v/ f( z

8 t4 d9 X) n) N1 x- O•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
3 Z* g0 `2 n) B1 ], m& S; K- Z) }the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 \% F; E0 E+ Z6 d/ L/ c8 c5 K  |; J•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 5 ?4 \3 P! j; _( ]5 m" ~* e2 l/ W
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( s$ S6 C0 t# Q8 p' U& k
the forthcoming year;  
4 A) E1 F' Q5 h. d5 w•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical + d+ M0 @4 T# {# f- ?! h
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
( I/ f8 {% ]- h3 fYWCA Canada; and
6 v( F4 }7 |4 h+ h•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 7 X$ v' d4 T1 i7 l0 c

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; / u6 o9 r5 S. U
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus # d- T) z6 U" M$ n" s3 L8 [; b) F
around decisions, plans and actions; 3 S) H; ^' a0 ]( b: o# `
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
! H' f# l3 U) B3 l) W•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 7 X" F: P: h- A5 j
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
( T& Q+ b" L. {  ^4 Q& C•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
, r9 v5 s9 k- {- k" f% Nsimultaneously; * S/ l4 G/ ]! D0 T: ]2 n1 R
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
, |! o3 F* J" W3 U2 c/ F5 f; W1 mrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
: U8 ?0 l6 }: Y3 ~, c  u- {•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ( ^2 _3 g5 x7 J' n% J/ S7 F' W
•  Superior negotiation skills.

' w5 R: L8 i4 Z, c: i, C+ ?7 W4 I( Z Required Professional Designation / Certification
, ?8 z6 b: e, \•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
+ i+ |: U4 G" \& `* ^
- v8 ~+ t3 T9 a6 o4 f( }# mRequired Experience & {1 w" t- R9 `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , G& t" W! V# u6 |" G
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
$ a. N  ]' Z2 c! b  i, ?abilities; 1 z1 i" I8 J% c- g: F3 J& L
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 5 a# e& H) c. \, C3 K9 ^' i: N( A
Networking and Fundraising; 3 N- H! y; q: O* {. A+ M9 Z6 ~
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
0 r# ]- ^) M; G7 g- y, h( mand financial statements; and
0 Z: ~; K6 \3 v* `•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
  x0 q4 [6 h; V8 r- Q0 jcentered perspective.
