Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
+ k( J* ?" w; a2 {' Msurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
* V- q$ i2 C# ~+ R+ Y5 h% FEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
  C. l( p; m7 j# G% g# Y: ?8 V
1 U0 l# p9 c5 k; rReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 9 a; _3 I) c# E
execution of the YWCA Strategy   `& ~' H/ X' {. R* K$ D2 B' G  H* ]
3 |& l8 M( ]9 R4 d4 P0 Q
Specific responsibilities include:  : y6 H) I1 [7 g# u6 t  Y# z

6 S1 b  B8 H4 A6 m* w0 J/ u& y•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 6 u7 ?, q3 S+ \- P4 M
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
$ y: s# _) Q$ i- t4 z8 Xthe Board of Directors;  
$ ]. }+ z# ]7 d2 F+ V! C4 Z. r1 `•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
! T8 m  M- a# Rincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
* u+ _1 g% |4 Q4 s$ @7 n3 T9 wenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & f3 `+ f8 C- b% v0 i; k
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and & y: n3 p; b/ Q- V5 O  i
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
  [" G% T& U; E' W- Tthe board;  
2 M" N5 M  i6 N# H2 L•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
8 I$ A: Z- }$ J7 v$ ^/ x•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
. H# D# f/ ~% c1 P( B  @; Bthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
/ m) L* Q6 @1 v$ ~•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
: _- [' H! x* R+ R- \6 N1 _3 ychanging needs of the organization and community;
" m: X; ^# [( J•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 8 p$ z" ]' h% d4 i2 P
commitments;
# R- K7 J# a& C3 h•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
; e' l# B& E& a3 O; V7 c  |•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; u6 A' T* a' Q  X; B4 _" Y8 S" s* xselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
! K7 L, Y7 T5 e4 l) t•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 7 E8 e6 J! a9 v& V# x
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
" u) Y6 s' Z. r' K! H; U- Seffectively and positively represent the association; 4 |5 s+ h5 k$ x

* n6 v4 ]! d" \% J2 q•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
0 E  ]( j% |5 C. Y( Othe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
' u- T3 [: H& x" i% S1 R5 ?, b•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ' k% v. [! c% F
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED - g; A! j: o0 F  I3 ~% _) K1 ~
the forthcoming year;  
* K7 z& J7 l/ D9 {7 J7 w•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
6 ^# Q% |6 \" m9 \) w$ Fpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of & i# J" k+ d( f" E4 n* _* y4 R% N+ P, n
YWCA Canada; and
* N3 O7 V# \* K& a•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task # w! T" {1 y- j$ e# q
Forces.  4 _, s( K( p9 g: ~9 W" o$ f

Required Skills & Abilities . k& h" n! W' H  [* V6 v8 E
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ) p7 g% O* o& i0 o6 A, J. l8 c: C
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 6 x# p8 d2 H, y; ?1 {
around decisions, plans and actions;
9 L' Z" O% r9 ?•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
, O* o6 C% h6 j& l•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 7 Y1 m/ j* u3 O& k' f0 D; C. p
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 P8 ]( j. i  [1 X  T•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 9 q6 b; D" B3 v7 b: u4 ?3 S6 B$ u
simultaneously;
2 d0 c2 {1 T; w$ D) O•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 8 I% X& I; G* l0 |  n
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ! `6 Z0 r3 Q. p# `% V
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 5 ]2 O8 w; l0 h2 e# L
•  Superior negotiation skills.

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 w7 i; ?% O. E) s& H& M

Required Experience ' t6 g' [( {( ]( J! C( L. v9 t
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; - V# x" L7 i  l
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
3 z1 J  w) f# _6 d% w, Mabilities; 5 a: v6 z/ M+ P  G" @' v+ O, A+ K
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   Z/ }& l( a# d- l; ]
Networking and Fundraising; " o1 ]$ o( M2 s9 A" D
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ( v/ V5 L6 C  n! g: P4 [$ g9 A
and financial statements; and
, T7 _0 C; l) K& _* g$ [9 V•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women * Q  M! u6 Y! S; ~# i; ^# A
centered perspective.
