this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 2 N/ ]" z" O6 r6 S; X5 @6 ]7 f6 Y
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
4 M0 V% ^; _/ J0 y7 Ysurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 4 |# E+ b3 @; E! C- H
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities

! g* V# E+ \; `7 mReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 2 R  R- A  d/ x8 E& ]3 k; v+ [6 e
execution of the YWCA Strategy
! ^0 Y8 K! u7 ?  Y/ [$ S
8 c9 [+ x% e: }0 E  z& iSpecific responsibilities include:  
' p2 b' p" ^1 T 8 S; P1 b5 ^( m2 u) J
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
2 |% N5 g& T" o+ ^the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
, \! A& D: y' p$ lthe Board of Directors;  
3 J6 @9 ?2 [6 z; `% W# d•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
# M% T) b  k1 `" \including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ t5 b! p0 ^4 I1 U
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 5 A/ x4 M1 ?# o
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
9 m! O% A4 m. a0 s% u8 A# lobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 7 l/ M. @0 k0 i* g/ c; R
the board;  1 ~6 F" h' y  l
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
4 z  l% m. b6 j•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ! e3 ~. J# s: p- \4 H" B" K1 R
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; j! X& d0 J: X3 \$ k( ~* E4 v5 }
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
; w- K% R8 N  f  H% }" q0 ], Echanging needs of the organization and community;
+ |! ~1 H- x# |# _•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
  y" ]9 {' Q7 gcommitments;
5 C3 a# Q" J- g2 X1 g•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 p. Y. h6 u+ B+ J$ i" M1 ?
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
1 W- G; t( L. i+ i- b8 P/ P& `selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
3 o+ ?8 N- s8 O; w6 M1 _7 }7 S) Y•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; & l/ H$ e" s) O" C  W  b
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 2 l5 e# W# X1 F% u
effectively and positively represent the association; 6 ~/ [! `; H' w0 v" h: c9 J
! B1 I( z( M4 C$ {
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring / T, q" {+ h; I4 \( H0 }/ n
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 L, E. ~( N; u5 d; l( ~4 U# l) x•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
# S; b: }" e; R& x) s/ rperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
2 k' ^5 E1 {$ O+ Z: o3 E4 d( o; rthe forthcoming year;  ; F: I6 |# ?/ p  R
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 Z+ F; O. @9 e! p$ g% Fpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. v9 F+ s: T1 ?) BYWCA Canada; and
- y4 k4 F, ]) X2 ^( V2 d•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
- e, Y1 S9 m( x4 |7 ^2 @Forces.  9 I; w7 [. n0 }7 n% Y6 x

Required Skills & Abilities
# s9 l. _, C5 y% G! x% G•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
' V2 N0 @5 W8 }/ J* V: Q•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus & P2 {3 K- Y) t/ }: z$ t
around decisions, plans and actions;
- P/ l+ n1 S8 o0 Q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ; u: y7 O) S3 }
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
$ h. Q) I9 Z5 V% t% s- Band achievable with realistic timeframes;
- n6 O. z1 |/ @1 \# V•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 2 ]8 O. `1 l  a; @0 ^  [+ R( P
simultaneously;
+ O' R1 b  u0 R: H2 ^( s! c# q- Y; y•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build , R4 y% e* V; M1 l/ t8 M

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
8 G$ d5 R: A; R•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. $ D' X( {; s# X: h) Y2 q
) v8 F# h) b9 G, b9 S
Required Experience ; i; f% b0 h; F$ v: {
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 x2 ], }! `! j, ?$ \•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 6 x2 g; B2 _4 w0 \3 U  S
abilities; 7 \' Q: g2 I; l& U3 B% y+ Q
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, * I+ a& c- [: M6 X4 {  p
Networking and Fundraising;
. Y( I& n5 w" X" L, K•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting / G; N% k2 E- F8 k' R$ U; ~
and financial statements; and 2 b7 Y: q5 f8 i, F' B
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' k7 D; n; q5 b( Q
centered perspective.
