The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic * D+ {6 i) X7 e0 [+ v
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
9 k6 W" Y9 n5 O* C% h3 athis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 4 L5 e& J* ^, N" ]
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 0 ]- k. ^5 H$ C4 u" _( z
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 6 a' g1 r: G7 \2 r0 W) Q6 X
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the % Q( G6 {! x1 ]% f2 h  O

Responsibilities 3 m. ?% X! b. {/ r1 T, ?

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
* g5 S. p% T1 }3 Rexecution of the YWCA Strategy ) [# o+ j# [8 ?. E3 u
6 l9 _9 r( U- Z; z/ r3 i
Specific responsibilities include:  2 L0 y1 ~* E  K1 c* O  |4 h& C

$ X  A3 O' n, m/ E•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
' ]2 T6 e# K0 a3 Fthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ' E4 W' d3 g% R9 W1 D5 n* Y
the Board of Directors;  
9 b; ~0 K  N) N2 O4 E6 l; V1 m•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
/ j  A  C1 L3 e3 W0 v2 O# _2 zincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ m, P3 Y& l+ x
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
0 j- y- ~$ z3 T; g3 q. l•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
$ z' ~, i  ^( Yobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 5 B" Y6 C5 M  b( d  z  Y
the board;  
9 R6 R" d3 X- B' h9 E" e•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
7 v& `- H, z5 {3 L; x•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion $ A. i4 }: P8 g) v0 \+ j/ I+ F/ |
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 4 K: a! M1 @8 x* `
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
6 G# Q$ O. H+ a5 a4 A3 xchanging needs of the organization and community; 7 A) V+ j, M  G! [9 y
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue * d# @( B6 I7 B3 {, a9 m' F- w+ w- [
commitments;
1 [- F. B( C3 ?* r! V$ a: Q7 L•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  6 R: c5 g: |6 S" g2 B
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 3 s. s6 ~# [" D, U  z+ v
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
# Y) q( a7 K7 a•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
6 J: M6 q! W% F* P•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 8 B; _9 |  E% ^% v6 j
effectively and positively represent the association; - z; s% _  L; q- d
, A% T" z# h( G: v4 W3 U
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring $ x, d& @6 {0 z3 D* O" O1 u6 B3 @
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
( f$ R4 n$ V2 b1 w8 H# X5 V•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal # z5 b% O7 C, a* O8 _; d) s- O% n
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ! `1 u5 F; K) X9 C* _2 k
the forthcoming year;  
9 H8 D) Y4 B) d' F8 p•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
3 o4 N3 w  f- ?- I; Q: F% vpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of * w, b$ w- n, ~
YWCA Canada; and
- Y/ ^# @% S) T! }+ v6 |•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 i. ^6 U2 A: Y

Required Skills & Abilities
% s$ r1 \% b" V" d8 B' z•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
* d( k% ~: @; t' _: b) \•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus / j: N, j( K. k. }$ d
around decisions, plans and actions;
, I1 q' l% v$ R•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; $ J4 e6 D& r" h( D
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
. m+ w! _) _3 l( `) W+ c( ^/ rand achievable with realistic timeframes; 2 d' [+ p8 j9 `$ _- r+ k
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
+ c* Y. i5 V" q6 L% l: zsimultaneously; ) D, y9 N; R/ w( b
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 5 r8 p) X  g, p) Q6 u# H3 W! I/ [0 H
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; & _- a# O, ^. w8 e9 n5 O
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ) t& }3 x( r% M5 C
•  Superior negotiation skills. & L/ ]# P% w' @$ w- y% p

Required Professional Designation / Certification
& b- {" [& C- |6 u•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
* P+ y" @' D, J# Z & h$ Q( ?: q- y$ M! w+ d$ ]
Required Experience
1 B1 X" E# R7 G•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
( m2 y; b3 r$ D) x; N5 y4 b8 x& M•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
+ ~' S# d9 C* k  u) n5 Wabilities;
1 d+ T' g  D0 }/ u, Q+ f) C5 W•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 0 S" ]' q& z; `$ y3 |8 p. R
Networking and Fundraising;
7 b" Z8 y: s4 t: J•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
  s$ F* k9 p- [5 O. Eand financial statements; and $ [, s( V% a8 o$ \! @5 T) |* s6 w
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women , A+ b. D% \7 l; `( U
