The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA   s8 i8 O; b  l5 H
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and " ?3 U+ X+ p8 A/ ?# x1 Y7 ^' h
execution of the YWCA Strategy

Specific responsibilities include:  . q' W/ u: [2 V; E( Q
( g8 S: c# m4 B/ S) K; l
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of * X8 H/ ?/ H, C& M5 V" n
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 9 F( u+ f0 v, L) i! o
the Board of Directors;  
- h5 i; B' N( m4 ?0 e•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
+ R# {  O" F( `including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to   z6 R4 H% C) F; b6 Q4 j$ `
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
; k/ Q4 G2 Y. [6 I: P' E•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
' @* l6 l. R# a1 ^objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
$ |+ f! b; ]& S1 c  `the board;  5 H3 c$ x% x/ y  ]! t2 E
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  " o, }+ B/ n0 B/ X8 p8 k$ |2 L) Y8 g
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) O6 Q- n1 O* V+ o: dthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 w& y' f0 C: `( ~8 `: q9 Z
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
7 D# u# W8 W( F5 ?% f0 schanging needs of the organization and community; 2 \, D. F) r6 s: |2 f2 l
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
0 l  S; ^7 H3 V. m, `3 \3 B+ Zcommitments;
  }" b. n# X5 P5 P•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 t5 T; n# ~2 x$ \
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
0 Y  t- R+ i/ s9 j  {selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  2 ~, M( O' {8 p- i) C. h
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ( b! V" v7 G! Y& Z4 U
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 7 D% l2 M' C; l0 a, ]& g4 x
effectively and positively represent the association; * M! _& Z4 y5 o# g) M# y  L

" S3 a# F& h# z7 R  L; A  K•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
% U4 _( y( ^9 fthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
" O( W" h+ ^. P0 \: I8 k# I•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ; g. n; Y' }: W1 w# t
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
+ t- v* ]1 u& d; ^the forthcoming year;    g/ Y' |. H3 `* V
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 `$ @4 I& @( Dpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 2 g/ |1 x! F+ W: ]7 F
YWCA Canada; and / b2 W$ O8 q/ @- x
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
. k' C4 e1 }8 y2 j9 l3 v6 aForces.

. N* l" k3 ^$ E( H$ @( {+ kRequired Skills & Abilities ! k$ g2 S. v( Z2 f
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
; [( u3 F; ^6 T% o•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus % r. c  m0 u/ {4 J  t
around decisions, plans and actions;
0 Z; L& h, P! o- q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
/ p- m8 p4 h; }% t; v; _; N•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
- o& e' i4 K/ O. D' Y; b8 y, `and achievable with realistic timeframes; " ?! ?, Q6 y2 m: q
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks   b+ [8 I* F) V9 m3 _

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ! t0 {6 M9 M) e$ S. U2 {  H
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; $ O$ o- w5 i3 U) _/ B0 L9 b
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
% s* z* k3 y2 X•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification 7 `! s! m4 r4 k1 w
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
+ E, ^$ q5 \$ m ) b' R. [9 x8 o9 k4 H
Required Experience
; w/ P) |/ v; Q•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
$ h8 @' M4 L) k•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
5 H# Z1 e' j' W% Q. kabilities; ) p4 I1 A" P7 U% H7 e" I6 I
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 0 F" v, h6 X$ U6 S' t" i: |
Networking and Fundraising;
8 ]& ~" e6 L! U$ b•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
5 k8 P( D, p! G* u' v+ w  Mand financial statements; and ; M) q" N2 M0 y* ~; J' T
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
) k7 L. J- `, f1 W* N9 \centered perspective. 2 q6 V7 U( x. f& ]' K$ a# Y2 d) G
