this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 1 L# b1 n6 U4 s+ S
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
# l; L  }2 T4 O6 m: K; v& R9 fsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 4 b- y! V9 i% S& Z7 t0 `3 q
execution of the YWCA Strategy ( g5 B% B8 @& g" V8 q7 B6 ?- ^0 P

" Y; P. @5 F8 K2 t3 D. w# b$ vSpecific responsibilities include:  
7 }: d; I$ G& U) ^4 Y' ~
! c2 F7 q/ X' d( n" q" y/ |: n; P•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
2 {' z# Q% K7 v$ q+ n( kthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
4 A* f+ p4 I) {: X( s6 Sthe Board of Directors;  , y: {% T0 f) D& U0 k' {) y8 h" ^
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
5 z; h, W; T, [- sincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 B8 m" j+ o1 b9 M5 K0 B1 L+ c
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
- V# J# l* B9 N# L: @: `•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ' ~* G9 \8 D) e: P2 y8 g1 Y) M( S
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 9 ~6 v( O$ q( [4 c; r0 p! D
the board;  , U' k5 l8 {& j7 ?% y2 _
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  4 k# B* ?1 G9 K& O; ]4 _
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ! S7 I( u# h8 y1 v
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 9 T2 B) j1 ?; A
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 4 Q: E% T3 z+ U/ t2 l: c- ?9 P2 E
changing needs of the organization and community;
" w+ `' T& Q+ P% i•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue , v5 h) x/ h# _8 I. \% a3 E: {
commitments;
1 J$ E8 _& v- F% ?- s+ y' q8 b: A•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
% ^) [! Y) f* d  z' g! N5 q) D•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
3 s& Z7 b" `( K6 B2 n' ]selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  , L* P1 U" ^0 I$ V9 `1 x/ R
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
* s) d( h, `$ C" G0 W4 {, q2 G•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
4 c3 v+ j+ o6 T4 H+ r" Jeffectively and positively represent the association;
) ^, T+ p" ^9 u
' S. D) L; y- U•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ! A/ c  a: y  K& l. T
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
% T$ @! x, a& b& E! n) i4 K. F•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 L+ y% C, q$ q+ g8 S* Mperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
0 p# k& z9 K6 S( I# k0 @the forthcoming year;  
: M/ x  K- F" e/ w$ Q: Y$ c•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
" \( C# }# y  b$ i; b/ h8 Dpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 8 c4 F- a: ?/ F& _
YWCA Canada; and $ i7 R+ x8 ]$ Y2 i& u9 O7 x
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
# J5 E& @8 _) j; R- o: ~: L9 B, D& r5 pForces.

Required Skills & Abilities
' f7 v7 }2 M6 ]! T+ j6 y•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
7 |4 {: \6 g! m•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 8 B6 ]' ^! f3 [  j  C9 z
around decisions, plans and actions; % G& S- T3 V, f
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
+ `. H8 v5 q& W+ H3 c•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
7 v' y* f! X8 h- ]; z; ~and achievable with realistic timeframes;
' ^+ H& N* X3 `& X•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks & r; W  v' l+ J; W
simultaneously; + E: ?) Y  j, Q/ L/ g8 e
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
7 o& Z9 P, r5 ]( frapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
. X; S- ^7 L/ C•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ' x. [( N! b8 I
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification 9 b3 W; F+ e2 j- J
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 4 k& A: S. M3 ^: t0 L" R

/ w5 |) S7 b! ~" jRequired Experience + m; X, f7 R/ e
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
- h$ d  r% k8 v$ ?! s•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 S9 }! e9 B% I) ?" H% q0 x
abilities;
2 U, a3 w. ^  z; u1 V•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 8 c) c. M( f: Q! H0 O
Networking and Fundraising;   Z7 s! _( H+ \1 A, \& O, v4 X# T
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting + Z5 S5 H- N' e- s1 B0 A
and financial statements; and
/ i3 w- [* J' ^•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
0 v0 }( g+ M4 ?centered perspective. , e/ h2 M& X% p" J/ m% q# {
