The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic . ]2 a" r, z" T" M8 u3 K% _

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA & z+ ~% T+ v1 n: f
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 6 I( }3 a1 h) r4 s
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

. p7 H% Y' t8 u; s; iReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ' g/ r4 k, G  g/ b$ |
execution of the YWCA Strategy - z6 V$ n/ m$ a

- X1 \& x: k6 X( t  zSpecific responsibilities include:  % I: L/ [5 w! H2 A. |9 G$ m
) w4 ?% }9 U) ^. @$ Y# S
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of $ L. Q8 o- p: U5 Q- d
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
2 A' s/ v  |. J9 j$ x* r3 Gthe Board of Directors;  6 N9 L: z' s6 q& N! b; \
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
- F- u# B' |8 g; [including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
. @3 P/ E4 s, \# M1 n4 X/ S' p( Xenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ T/ a3 a- t5 p  ^5 r•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
$ A. O5 g  L- i' e! ?8 G, Oobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ) @$ k' h. `9 p% O" g
the board;  
; g' x7 d& h( d) l4 m•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
' c6 e; M* h4 A9 T# ^8 F•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
$ E0 P4 `; j' J. tthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ( y' Z5 C# A- j
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 5 b4 F3 d: Z$ s/ Z
changing needs of the organization and community;
# f6 {5 D0 e: o# S9 S/ L, \' T•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue " T  [+ a& u, Y
commitments;
8 ]% M  D3 t8 w. l•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  . U' f, z" a" X5 K. u  I; k" g/ i
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective * J2 E, Q. ]0 K5 F& ]3 G
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  6 F# U$ F! ~7 O" D, t0 V0 O$ U
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; & f& Y( @# e; V  t( y
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
4 H: n8 u2 O+ F( }1 b8 Z7 ueffectively and positively represent the association; 3 U/ o; o2 X, \1 K$ S
2 m) N- L+ D( v6 O
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 q: s- ^2 J3 u+ i8 s+ ]+ o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 H3 N1 F% R. u: T' g•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal + K* [5 k  q. I7 ]. H0 e
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
. w9 X8 O1 i' ]the forthcoming year;  , ^5 T* B* h" q
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical : ^1 w3 [5 j" t* ]- _8 Q
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
6 Y, d% `9 q+ kYWCA Canada; and
/ t2 k6 s2 h& m9 ~9 @+ V•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task # M+ L: X) d% _5 q9 p

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 7 a6 a: C& n; g- d
around decisions, plans and actions; * G/ F& T" m' l8 e9 w1 ]% T; N- b
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
' N  S! @( |& v4 q* x6 j•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 3 O: B) s: }& U3 k2 n1 f( O
and achievable with realistic timeframes;

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
2 G9 u/ h: J$ ?, Z•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. - p+ z6 z0 M: t& |+ i4 ?1 _6 {
, Z# b! W- d" k: |) l4 Y
Required Experience / n9 H9 G, ?3 w& S# @# z
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
8 g# A. t- u) d) M/ v•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
5 e- l0 q: ]" u8 f8 J/ k7 labilities; 2 k4 m+ o+ }; W; h4 j* `& j
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 N- \& _: Q8 |* a
Networking and Fundraising;
8 v4 X" X' C7 n- R% q1 y" u•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting * k9 A* J9 T1 Q1 S" z
and financial statements; and 1 q. S9 n* B) R) M4 _
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women # c! J* v% z: K2 j
centered perspective.
