The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
7 I$ J  L  d1 |6 q! m9 NEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ' P. O$ I/ W: ?3 Q: j! L
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

% K$ H! S6 J2 r: WReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
" {* {. @2 @3 I  a5 D- `execution of the YWCA Strategy
! ^( s1 m5 h, i5 i+ H
1 V7 |7 C/ j7 C9 l) G6 vSpecific responsibilities include:  - S, N! `4 O) F* p% {7 I

4 w7 g/ o4 z9 @/ L•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
  G6 w- w, g0 C, n6 d- E3 I9 U8 Rthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
6 U$ t$ n# W. y5 d% W- Y: v+ n' Rthe Board of Directors;  
) @) X0 Y: c' O. P•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
6 ?$ _! |; J" {- s9 h3 {0 Wincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & u% j1 J3 H6 L+ _
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; + `& [5 d6 t7 p$ x; _
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 6 z0 ?9 o  y8 _$ {. I, g
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
0 M, s% f' s: v5 z7 A: \2 d& mthe board;  * M7 @, M1 p& M, P7 t
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  4 Y5 ]) N3 L. e% i5 G% z
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion * g. S# U% m+ v% _- _3 \- E
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 4 t- X: A" r% S) |% {  ]6 A- p
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 3 B2 K6 {, c7 D+ `# o
changing needs of the organization and community;
. Q2 k7 t* V2 o, w& I- q" p•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
, S5 g# e6 h- j2 G: Kcommitments;
" T; T& Q3 Y& n9 A8 g; r•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  . M( O7 T4 f5 r
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective - x) B1 h2 Z& d. V
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 B, q7 P$ R6 g3 e$ v•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; . I' |( `% d4 ], p3 w
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
3 {) m: a: C1 s- o# H2 I5 Z# @2 z+ Geffectively and positively represent the association; 0 z3 [: }- U" d# t- Q& C
% l5 c9 J4 O2 \) x
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring - V* u; |% x) K
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
4 n; M9 R2 n8 ?2 F$ p•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal & Q% l! S# J& q( k1 e2 w) |
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
) |' h! Q3 {/ k& S6 F( s8 h- kthe forthcoming year;  # r1 ]) e$ s4 n: B  g. ^
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 V- e' k* W% c" D
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
3 ^" T. V# m5 v  _( rYWCA Canada; and : ^. Q! P1 V; t2 A9 ?. |. r
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
. f) i+ g1 ?  |- [% pForces.

+ y6 n0 ~4 b$ i% n3 L8 S& i•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
. n3 j: X: ~# b. b: E! ~! l1 P•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 7 W# V4 I7 V( [2 w: V+ t8 ]' x6 S
around decisions, plans and actions;
- H3 A3 I. D* f( ~8 t+ Z5 d1 Y•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 6 ^0 e. [! l8 b' S* G
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
0 R& {8 }0 N0 sand achievable with realistic timeframes;
  C: O" Y2 Q# x% }•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
( T; ?) i7 ]2 Y& s. n& n•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
# k1 W4 {3 X9 C0 Q0 t5 l 2 ^9 M9 T- |0 }3 i1 @+ ]
Required Experience
7 l$ d/ r* u- ]- I6 x9 L! c; [% Z" W•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; " h; i) u* I/ Q. J( ^4 k
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
6 |* v! _0 @. c) t' habilities;
' R2 u2 L( L% T•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
3 z; ]) o3 M5 X. VNetworking and Fundraising; ( f# k! W  }. \# V' q6 u
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
) r. S: R8 S1 cand financial statements; and
( o0 g, O8 |# r4 V  A7 X% f  l•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
% h1 {5 t; ^" [* G$ Pcentered perspective.   a1 n- G2 F) s: ~3 ^
