this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
0 d" u  ]& G# Q( Q2 u3 u4 S# PEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
: X" o& J6 F: r  @* Asurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
5 W% a" T7 b8 a& a# [3 iexecution of the YWCA Strategy . F& S$ y# {* @  Q! i
# Z0 N) z$ S5 I
Specific responsibilities include:  6 P& Q1 |6 ~3 u+ V9 I

. @% \; v5 I- ?3 o, S•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
+ F+ A1 m0 F$ @* ]/ a9 bthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
5 d" I: O, X* c( c) ]the Board of Directors;  
% b- w# y* `7 e0 m$ {- x+ Y9 c* w•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
( P( Y9 o$ o, [( Z7 _; Gincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to % \& W/ \& `* G  w3 ?2 s2 d8 [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; % y* q4 T- B5 X, c+ y4 y* T! }
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and - H3 f( r: `7 M6 |  W. _6 F- W( `
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 2 z  R- ^) _( T$ {
the board;  
, h% m! r4 P6 m9 T& Z7 }$ f•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ) _; {( `9 z( T; `0 A
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
/ w3 @& b. _. u' Othe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
! E) u' d' ^% M. [( d•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
) h" C: f/ ]- H( |' O: y+ M7 v) ?changing needs of the organization and community;
) r! V8 h% f$ u$ T; [$ s: _6 H•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
# \# i8 R* w% w0 O$ gcommitments;
4 }7 m+ l. x7 F* s! {4 s•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
  F4 D9 E' A4 ^# g  W" o•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
3 P- @) W- g$ M1 [7 dselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
. K! C+ n* T- c0 v# b. r•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; - I2 p. J) V5 N7 @& j2 `' ?
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to . r2 Y$ _2 W4 S0 X+ Q1 n' b
effectively and positively represent the association;
1 O: j$ o+ J5 |& [. ]" D3 v8 }; ~$ \; N1 V/ w
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
  p. ?1 ]# Y0 R3 Ithe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
5 N1 q: X- b5 G, n1 K•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 2 k# }9 g  \9 y( G& c" P  A: i
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 2 }/ Q) ]1 w+ X6 i# h
the forthcoming year;  
! W+ |4 w4 M# O1 Q) D3 t5 O•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical - b+ u6 z+ k2 r; g" v) I+ x
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
  q; _: A; b6 I, _YWCA Canada; and 5 W" `$ r0 y7 Z' A  d0 o
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
% I: I2 O, H  G$ ?; GForces.  * t# K5 g( |! y+ B; h
  
5 q: {" ?, ]/ sRequired Skills & Abilities
9 S* C0 }9 H% x. m' k# r•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; % L- P" ?4 Q& i9 D3 d
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 0 z( R7 D0 x. @# l* x
around decisions, plans and actions;
3 c5 K" O4 `) |0 Z7 N# `•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 g. d+ ]/ P7 T+ |* K9 b
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
9 t& m8 }* Z5 ?% G  b7 {and achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 z/ V. N4 N9 d& i# x3 J•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks . t/ U7 f( Z3 W/ G( [( A) P
simultaneously;
2 [$ W& @% y; w3 A" z•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
# w" b9 Q2 q) ]9 C% Vrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
2 s$ A1 v& Y# w" t5 d: K! ]) l) Z* \•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
) m+ \8 Q  G( h% Z- H. G2 `•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
1 R( D, B0 F9 n' g•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
" G% A/ h- G% S, W" u) ~9 U
' c/ y+ o0 n% jRequired Experience ! d0 y3 X) \; N+ ]
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
9 B  E" ]; }. u•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : N" Q$ ~5 E" ^: Q
abilities; 3 O9 T/ U; x! r7 C9 [. F2 G
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
- d7 j* L) U: q/ G, PNetworking and Fundraising;
# u2 O( t4 [8 m# ^& Q; _$ K•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
$ @: w$ v# O( ?1 ~1 V( t5 Pand financial statements; and
  H2 W  z6 j2 C! g•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 4 E* n: X! T6 R6 y
centered perspective.
