The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ! f2 O# L% M7 v& d* c

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 0 b& j5 Y8 r3 f/ a0 c3 a
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
6 N% u- F6 ~, o2 V' `8 Q- F
1 g5 a" u, p' e8 KReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and   e% |. g9 s2 U$ H; y, l
execution of the YWCA Strategy
/ C3 Z1 F/ q2 e, Z
  ]& g3 [# R4 Q  x2 y* p4 MSpecific responsibilities include:  $ j+ f; g& l; x8 X. S3 ~; p

4 J! U7 T4 e: \# s•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of . O3 [2 S+ }9 v) b" v5 L( {
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
/ K# _% H3 E4 a( m+ wthe Board of Directors;  ( u% _5 K4 L" p& P  L- g, T
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ' m# \3 G6 Q+ L3 L# _+ {4 {$ Y2 Q
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 7 R5 L* V% w$ T/ ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 1 y- {9 o4 P- b  n
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
8 W- }9 G  H) y8 [+ ?8 h. qobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by - y$ W; V, r: l3 l2 g& n% Y
the board;  
+ \% |# }' O5 u9 S0 {8 K•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  : n3 ?; Y" a/ E$ s5 a: P3 C3 z9 q
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion " c+ R! U( o" o" b" `9 p
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
' C7 B" x+ r1 Y% {: u% b•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
4 O! t; _7 s8 M; X6 W' b2 S/ dchanging needs of the organization and community;
8 S0 f; i% J( F( i  w+ |•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
7 N! H; ^5 y3 z2 Hcommitments; % P3 [: T" L3 `& i9 I* _; T- Z
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  / X1 I# H7 d' |+ `
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
3 A5 a* t% b# Kselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ; A$ ^3 A. ]3 S' d- b$ a# [
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
$ H0 Z$ s& C* K9 [$ y& ?% K) I•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ) d& t7 p2 j1 }8 G: P" o
effectively and positively represent the association;
% @7 h+ Z4 \: a% X. q) G' |+ u, t# ]) ^: R
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. `% j; [9 L: ~- Tthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  4 d3 q+ Z% k* {% d2 H4 v3 r: |
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 T- P: X) Y  u! i8 ^performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ' J2 ^3 g: V9 E8 g7 j1 J4 \- E, K
the forthcoming year;  
/ [, v* N, r8 i% I9 t8 n' a, f•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical $ S. r' v0 r' o4 b
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
: \" g5 e8 f5 s. e; {YWCA Canada; and 5 I2 A. r0 \2 A$ p2 i/ K
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
0 I3 `( x5 ]/ |- L! v2 vForces.  
0 z+ |5 p# |( L4 [) m0 W1 ?  * l5 |5 v- k( {8 M7 \/ Y+ j& B$ J

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
: Y! y/ J. C+ o- \: W•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ! B) [0 q  W6 J$ {/ M8 ]
around decisions, plans and actions; % W. G% a6 r; {. L: @' Z/ o: |
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
0 d8 F+ u7 K( z+ y•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable % ?; t( y4 s* t" l( x. p
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ! I# m) P& z- G# E  W5 K; A* _8 m
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks . ^+ L6 |1 K) q  e3 c
simultaneously; . C. l8 J8 z7 U$ ?$ s, P
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
( }/ M4 V8 N$ ~) N3 o& u9 Irapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
5 u) E8 Q% b/ K- b  ]•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 7 m( r* P2 ?! Z

Required Professional Designation / Certification # b- \  ^7 _" {- O
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 j: G+ P6 h7 a6 t0 Q9 V
" F$ A) _. W7 x- h8 I
Required Experience
' d0 J; a+ q0 i1 U•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; * H! D) j, x  N0 Y& m
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
) f+ ^$ J1 m8 J, v  ]0 Xabilities;
) h6 }5 z8 _0 W•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
1 d6 d) W- C4 i% H9 \! JNetworking and Fundraising; 9 x5 F+ d% o4 `- H- V$ M0 W
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 1 U8 a2 n$ d$ t* R7 `
and financial statements; and
! O) q! |: A( k) R' D. g•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ! D! G- _% q$ B+ B" S
centered perspective.
