thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
: z( ?  ~% v+ o- D0 N& dthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
& i+ c  H9 \) K( I0 [Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 6 O: a) o" B9 f' r$ |
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities - }' x0 V; B* j3 T: U

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
& A/ D# x" c8 L; R% `, W' Rexecution of the YWCA Strategy
+ H# u% \+ J9 w% B & T& \) G. z; T( K
Specific responsibilities include:  
$ e! E, S8 K" }7 l( w/ @ ) p- f9 s. T' u
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of # @2 z) d# N3 H2 r
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ! R. p4 K9 b" k" I0 Z! X* G% M7 ]5 S
the Board of Directors;  & W) [) w& [7 j) J7 N
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
: s& @6 k, L3 }including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
# f/ c. S. {- L. benable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 6 d  A" [* ]+ ^/ B+ c) i/ A
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and - u; c, w, J: J) V  S! ^+ I3 Q4 n
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by + _  s; G$ f# [0 K  S
the board;    P- ?+ t& i$ t0 K  Q
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
1 B$ h) x  l1 m# K•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( S9 i2 o& s6 z7 c6 Y+ K  k% Kthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
6 v+ J8 E5 @5 U' h9 s•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
# K/ W4 x5 o, ?changing needs of the organization and community;
! X7 B$ P5 h9 e- j•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
4 [6 X0 B% I6 Hcommitments;
4 z8 J) u# e# T: w% L+ }% M, q•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  , }, s# }' N9 c" p* L
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective " Q+ K' Z+ M# w: c- l+ C; O
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  4 U. }& t* z" v9 U, i0 d# H" m
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; , B3 I( Z( w: P
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to % Q' T; A6 i% O1 A: @; j$ j: F- @& O
effectively and positively represent the association;

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
' Y7 `3 x0 p. C0 Vthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# s2 }' O4 C+ }•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ! C, D! ?9 ?- {, Q$ w, a1 C% a
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED + F* ~4 E' A2 u1 v, B  w. l4 _
the forthcoming year;  
" P( M6 _9 Q  p# O, j•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 3 z& B$ T6 X, m% E- G. k
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
$ c7 ]- r& {# YYWCA Canada; and 9 g+ T5 T# Y, Z+ `3 U
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ) Y7 e* M, X8 L) I  l3 J; {) ~* [
Forces.  4 W1 P7 k9 r" O, s
  4 D# E7 @' |# N6 A* k" K
Required Skills & Abilities 6 e& d! R& L# t: R
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
9 Z/ q2 U4 p! I' s•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 4 _* C# ~7 F; Q+ p5 L' F8 J5 u& E
around decisions, plans and actions;
; ?9 p( K' o* v2 m" J•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ; @% Z3 U" p2 y  Q9 s" H- U
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 1 _4 Q, w: n9 C9 V# d6 C7 j
and achievable with realistic timeframes; " {! ^" J5 h4 {# s
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks % j! d& v% R7 f6 H, _+ ?1 }" F1 o
simultaneously; " R; }1 c2 o2 H$ m. q" x2 b! v
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
' N* ^9 {, J. @* Krapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; + _+ P& u7 \6 R, ^6 s6 u7 o1 h; i
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ) x8 G# x  x% c% g
•  Superior negotiation skills. # c/ t6 {4 U8 D

, c9 M2 {- V" P' {& Y Required Professional Designation / Certification + b6 L- a  A  h, U0 ^# H3 Q
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
& Y. W( m$ Z& D1 W9 }
' q$ E+ l. n8 ~; f4 m  VRequired Experience . v( D/ p3 V8 g: P
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , T* l/ u4 Y+ M
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation . _% g: k. O: B1 K8 Z
abilities;
- G* V) H0 E; E2 a" r•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, # @; ?! E7 C8 d7 e# M; ]8 Q, H$ P* N
Networking and Fundraising; ' E3 o% a" f# O4 z, `+ ?9 ^
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
  N% ]. O) I, P5 Z7 hand financial statements; and
' ~1 L# a" Y0 c9 o+ L6 ~•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 V3 F8 c# N8 Z. |+ h! l$ [5 ~, icentered perspective.
