Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 3 J, d* J* M, H2 J4 ^7 E$ J
execution of the YWCA Strategy " Z; h! ?* k: q, {

Specific responsibilities include:  
# @4 f( y3 d2 M( c5 x. A0 T5 Y
# t7 P% [6 L5 z8 y. W- C•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
* Z8 U# v' r2 s3 Hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
1 L& R0 b& w8 Q; `% V! Q4 Jthe Board of Directors;  
9 d+ K4 t8 J- v1 y7 ?0 n$ X: M' `•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
6 b6 a+ B) i7 F3 Cincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
& Z/ h0 I4 ^" Y0 M6 E6 u  Q/ \enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
, t: o% U. v8 S; T' F3 Y& u; [•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
) @2 L5 R" p+ N! a3 d" p% j7 Uobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
% ]3 z2 U2 J) @the board;  : H0 G5 W5 Z" y2 k; m0 w
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
- g! h- l  }6 B6 M0 T•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion - N4 T( M$ f( H) H. e5 ?3 I
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
5 U6 s2 k7 Q) z/ U•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 Z: q3 r3 p2 U( `0 {6 f& Hchanging needs of the organization and community;
/ g' G$ |( c: e9 j8 Q) z•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
/ R6 f1 i3 s/ \, a* scommitments; - _9 s/ N) h% ^; Q* Z
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
, ?2 q" n) b  T5 S8 j•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
- H! m8 q8 Z) }" m. o9 zselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  / a% a. X1 e2 b3 E- O7 }4 b9 M
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 6 @1 h/ O4 R# N
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ! @& Z$ G- p7 {# Y6 L) C
effectively and positively represent the association;
9 C7 S2 H6 B* }1 I/ M* Z, G2 {- X$ H0 T. b2 N* p, ?
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring   v! q% p/ F4 R: @
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;    b* A2 i7 N' |3 [2 J
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal . b$ f4 [- M" k1 A8 Z: h
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
( r! Y7 o- y# Pthe forthcoming year;  1 N, l0 p7 P6 R' G4 E
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical % T; R  O0 e' O* x4 b2 u0 ?/ `) U
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
, `) g8 F  f* \( eYWCA Canada; and / k' `2 s" e/ a% w  L
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
0 E  q. `# C6 ~  dForces.

+ y" D$ _1 i$ [6 o1 a•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; , A' J# ]/ Y$ J6 G$ Y
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
0 c0 I1 ^: _; {) Daround decisions, plans and actions;
+ I& H2 x! K( o8 H5 d% u) n8 t•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
6 w; T' O" r; e# a9 d•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 8 ~5 s9 e# f" F+ G# p
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
5 A, {$ n' @5 l•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ( z# ]! j# [( ~, N  h  _6 _
simultaneously;
4 \& V1 i8 p$ }) u•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
( c+ W5 P  w5 q! A9 A0 V; |rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; $ a7 a, r# y3 v% [& a
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 1 N- t& B2 K' _9 R6 f# Q2 f
•  Superior negotiation skills.

+ g9 e# D4 [% b( R2 m Required Professional Designation / Certification
" y3 f- ?* ]  f5 a•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
( O: k8 Z. X5 }) j* {- ~ ; a; i6 W5 ^. \  t& [  j9 d
Required Experience
8 @* e9 f9 z$ m8 `9 P4 o# @' _•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , Q+ u9 g& R# Q1 s1 j, x! Z
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 1 W( Y: ]" N, H7 A& l. e
abilities;
( O5 Q" v5 e  s9 |- Y% b•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, % e! w7 F" a0 j- D2 d- l1 `& L" M
Networking and Fundraising; , Z0 d5 n, w8 Q3 {- ?/ X2 k: y
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
: t. B; d8 Z8 {: F: r; dand financial statements; and 4 I) H5 W2 P/ p* b, b
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 1 X9 V/ j, q/ w. {
centered perspective.
