The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
" R4 j% X7 [: Bthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead ) Z9 p6 e( D1 c* r8 F4 s9 f2 g% m( b
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
* d# \" ~6 q/ ]9 u0 F. HEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and % o0 U, u* x# P; Z& C
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
% W& A- F0 c) h$ V( i) B8 m6 cEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 9 U. [; N* g* e# N6 B
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities
0 C8 x7 N" z' U7 r# {. T1 v   ~& N  v* n2 x; N% ]4 x) n6 d
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and . @  ]" ~% p4 }: U" t1 V; i, ~: {
execution of the YWCA Strategy
, |" K0 \( J$ T2 Z8 }7 p / Q; ]5 V, v. e0 \, L# I- f0 a
Specific responsibilities include:  3 _% a$ z8 W  ^5 P

2 {( P, n, `0 ?1 t0 r' s+ b* q- @•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of : n! y9 L  r8 {1 A) T6 s" D! S
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
, x1 e- t4 M# {+ F' j+ u; q4 zthe Board of Directors;  
4 c7 ^: h$ q7 A, R' |•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
: P7 G; }8 p9 f" aincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 F8 h% i5 h, S3 _. W3 F1 K
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ; \% A8 I( h% L
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
3 ?/ X  _; n2 U2 Yobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 3 {. s: H1 u' [9 X/ s
the board;  / h' O7 U  ~, Z4 c
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
7 j. s7 p7 \+ ^3 i0 V3 ]9 [•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 0 A% L: A% Q5 p* k
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 9 {% i& l+ g7 e* ^
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
) H4 {. o# z1 t- h+ Ychanging needs of the organization and community; / M! ]( r  @' e3 ^( o4 r# I7 o; t! |8 u
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
- L# ^5 x: [1 b6 Y( K6 ncommitments;
; a/ f  w; R, D•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
1 g8 E! s- z8 L. @8 E/ @•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ' t0 m+ z9 Q9 o6 {  s7 N! W8 ?* C: l. ]
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
' ~  s( k5 b5 P/ d7 T" M. B•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
' C" c# d5 I0 [$ ?' ?4 C+ a•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
1 U& v) L3 T. q: Y. c- jeffectively and positively represent the association; 2 a& y) y+ I6 B9 m/ A8 K7 C8 v
5 O0 D1 ?: g9 D) M2 z+ M* s% c
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring % _/ p+ m1 x" W2 Y( {! b6 i! P0 i
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  : B0 n3 _% Q1 g( D
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
8 f  E- U- `+ D* N8 V: Cperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ' _5 K# A/ p; \  b: u
the forthcoming year;  
5 J  J: I$ }/ y& ]5 ^& M% e9 C•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
/ Z9 ?/ h) M% R7 @( Ipractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
6 j. a5 j5 i# }& J9 N2 \  M% OYWCA Canada; and , |! j) \' I" N; R! c5 C% X3 I
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ! q) V. q0 p1 Z+ x6 y& E. m- o' [

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ) T3 I3 w: x7 o* r2 O$ G
around decisions, plans and actions;
% c1 N( ]) C( T* Q* t# y•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 4 u, Y  n! Y  V8 s) a
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 7 z9 R) U+ b6 }( c* U' a' s
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ' u  f9 Y. k( |8 w
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
5 E: J% E# ?/ B7 X4 j7 Psimultaneously; . j, g' t8 H1 D3 H! w* ]* X$ b; u! M
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
; W- S: u+ M% a* grapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. , F- `/ G) g- {4 B# ~

Required Experience 0 L# c; E+ B6 i0 F( t4 c
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 4 Q* r, A+ g; \5 |
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
  _' R. h) G1 W; p& e- n( E  R% Tabilities;   b3 j8 g  x" }
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, / p/ m; k4 f5 x" `( a/ N
Networking and Fundraising; 2 @: D- B( [6 g. X/ ~5 g) g# p
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
- Q; h* F6 F& H" f" _and financial statements; and * {! C0 V, G+ K: @2 v3 q
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
" L/ |* A: g5 L7 ^/ [2 G; k$ Rcentered perspective.
