Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
0 Q& @8 A, A/ N; iexecution of the YWCA Strategy - a4 j9 f0 K+ c4 N  z: a4 `: R
2 Y9 f' H; P& S8 N5 z
Specific responsibilities include:  
. _+ i* s' g$ Y! z
' J- w: l  z0 W•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
8 Q# e& O9 V% ythe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
) g8 y* j( p( Y9 Zthe Board of Directors;  
$ q& h; y, U3 R2 y  j•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
% O! B* o# Z6 s, Y5 Z7 Dincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
* s  _3 n3 d" u4 z! |3 X# Aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
* ]  l: L% Q9 f( G! S2 v5 }: \* a2 y•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
( m+ P5 ?) F5 [0 n5 nobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by * x$ d" @4 H0 w0 H
the board;    g& _! Y  n. T; T/ t' H6 r
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
2 i* S, H1 i6 N  q•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- m! s& {: I# V& F7 B% X$ E  mthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 2 q& L( L2 R$ E5 U" e
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 9 Q' C) p; w( m% H8 R
changing needs of the organization and community; 6 y+ q& a/ M$ u# i* |* I
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
3 O  Z1 A  I9 y  @' ?commitments;
% G0 |. n4 L6 p) V, [. v# R- r9 C•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
$ \$ e! `9 e' ]7 N! b•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
5 S. B1 j5 x) ?* B1 ?! c3 Sselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
* Q" o1 E1 r' t% Y•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; " y6 j7 J6 [/ l
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
- I6 q: x" W+ ]# b7 p, V  Oeffectively and positively represent the association; - ]2 M) ]/ z$ Z, ~
! z- T5 \. m0 @! X/ a
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
5 S6 e2 P5 q! W* S! w+ Tthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  2 C- H" e1 L: ?$ J" ?# L9 T
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ Z1 n! I2 s  ^! K  U. B! n: t7 [performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
! R$ d3 Z$ N2 d" E/ p. Ethe forthcoming year;  
* `2 d) [: \; A1 w1 @/ O: ]•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
( T3 u( E$ M* W# w! N2 upractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of / d- ^& E& S! n. E% I; j8 @
YWCA Canada; and 3 f3 E* z7 I" c; Q& U" J
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
' Z0 P& w8 w7 ~$ e1 ]9 |Forces.  ) I" s7 Q6 b% V0 e! s. K
  
5 v) [' T4 u- s. SRequired Skills & Abilities
! \, {  j) l! ^/ T: y8 Y•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
, Z2 H) ?3 ~' A; z8 y( L•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ' I/ K, q" x& m1 h# p0 e& p
around decisions, plans and actions; 3 E/ C/ A" b' V, z: F% U: L3 X! q! ~
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
: X- E* ~* Q: w1 i•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable $ T0 a3 u6 P3 m
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
, v6 i( x9 a. l6 `; B•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 5 {- e) |, o6 _, V. G5 P+ O# j

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
- Y8 b( y5 M1 O) |& u& C2 R' s4 R' crapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; " b9 R# l/ V; j% ?6 _
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and * K/ l$ W' Z& o. M! o$ c4 O  }
•  Superior negotiation skills.

7 r, v1 E2 ~  @/ D/ j7 f Required Professional Designation / Certification ( y9 ]7 n0 K/ N; ^1 r6 F
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. # s5 N% u1 u( T) P9 Q

$ \/ p8 A  v9 r5 d3 e( G$ xRequired Experience
' B2 j. d2 H$ `•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
: [: Q) k4 j( D! `- w6 v9 [  ]•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ! {: K& J" o7 k( X/ Z: j2 x0 i# r
abilities;
4 T0 o, C. X' Y$ Q# C" k•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + h8 n' S: H* U  F! Z7 ^: l  a
Networking and Fundraising; " f' Y. _5 ^5 N4 F7 v
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting / c1 i! Y3 f- |' O1 m$ z
and financial statements; and
% S* M1 g8 ?; l" n. y2 k•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' @7 W0 M9 t( M% F
