The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic . ~# ^& n7 ]: @% d
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead * f6 Q: k" F/ v$ x
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
4 s5 I7 G. k# F9 s3 rEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 9 L: o$ S8 J5 S1 _1 M9 P
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA % z3 y- _) [4 N3 J4 N0 U9 }
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
% W7 ?& _( a( O$ L) F! @9 y2 _ % x, v. A7 _  v
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
) L' N6 ?$ |0 I8 m8 I+ R3 ]5 nexecution of the YWCA Strategy 5 Q1 w. g2 f6 g' |7 G% b

% w! Y) ?! }0 |* MSpecific responsibilities include:  
  X6 j% \0 r, N0 A7 \- o" Y1 @
% \0 V( O6 j1 L, U0 a•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of + T0 i6 ~# a2 f! h
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
4 Q( X  Z' H" G1 Y3 X, Mthe Board of Directors;  % l0 m4 @/ r) M- y& i- g
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations . J* S( Z% r& c# b5 I0 @  P
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # Q( p& K/ q4 c- u
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
/ r% B4 e7 S& I/ D  D  `•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
- O7 T1 v, q: c, u) E# J% ~objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by + Y2 z2 L1 U4 L
the board;  
- ^! y. l8 F! G5 N; W•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  I0 t/ t! x- j2 e* f! ?•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 9 Q. f( i8 j7 u/ P
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; " d' }+ [& @8 K! ?. x7 D
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 0 _6 T; T' J( p5 u. M3 ]
changing needs of the organization and community;
- P8 E: X" R  n; \8 v- q$ C, n•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
/ b* D& }( y4 \* x. U/ E  Tcommitments; - k, t  K+ L2 G3 X- @' ?" f
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  7 `0 R& O( v! n
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
. }: O" Q1 E4 [) p3 T* Sselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 G+ S$ @4 ?5 _3 C8 @4 d•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; + `0 P7 H5 v5 U& u& ?0 {3 T
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ; i3 r7 T; g, n  w: N: U
effectively and positively represent the association; & P1 C6 x5 Y4 m. ^) `
% s8 r6 m0 J, w+ y6 L# W9 X% J
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring " }8 T$ v: a5 ]& i
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  # K. g- f# u' w' O, X: x
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
! \+ f$ j9 n' F' K$ A0 {performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 3 Z- I+ V0 O7 j
the forthcoming year;  
' i) Y: ^* E) L6 |* H•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
  b) Z1 G4 X5 V, gpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
( ~% O' V' W0 ]& t; TYWCA Canada; and
4 O, T+ C( [) m3 \  B% p•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 6 T7 L% ?! W9 f7 B1 A

Required Skills & Abilities   M/ J/ l8 |6 ?& \1 c7 r, ~$ `
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
+ G4 a/ m, m& ^. l•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus * w: r) b: T1 v
around decisions, plans and actions;
: A3 G  H8 M1 [3 ]•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; % u2 j, ]& t# I& O& o
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
. ]7 c3 j8 k8 mand achievable with realistic timeframes; / H8 N5 P) t& `5 ]! L
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
4 Q3 L: j$ [- {, v  Ssimultaneously; / C% O& n5 z! U- ?" W1 Y$ x: b  T! m
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
. t5 }8 x: W1 J7 ]5 k•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
8 z$ X- Q$ f6 g. l( `
' B7 K; W8 j4 l# eRequired Experience
- E0 Q5 s/ u/ V# ^•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
8 }  L1 e. V/ f& S•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
9 O% E" T$ X; q1 S2 ^3 z! D. l& babilities;
3 _8 ]% K* D6 A9 x2 t( B3 d•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + Q$ k0 ?( }& B2 m
Networking and Fundraising; ; A4 J2 _* Y8 `2 K+ x
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
& y) {7 @, P) p  e" F- sand financial statements; and
- V) l0 J6 M+ d! p' [•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
; Y; a4 ]/ \' Y3 I2 l3 ecentered perspective.
