The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic , m3 G1 j4 x6 Z$ \2 Z( u* X9 _

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
, ~& G# Q/ W" [( oEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 1 m& ?$ O5 M# l  W/ n8 y$ D/ p
execution of the YWCA Strategy
! f( r% I7 y+ x
  P4 l3 d8 y' Y% PSpecific responsibilities include:  4 a; j/ S8 p$ ?. l# N# C* N  X3 G
: `5 U7 J8 @# J2 b& K  J
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
. w+ F& V+ j- h! O& `5 a+ Hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
5 N: P& ~) O' a' ithe Board of Directors;  2 E. E/ K0 T& G' ]& k0 F. s8 x) k
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
/ x: c: }9 u8 B0 S! bincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) K9 n3 l& d  W) w1 u( s* H
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
9 a2 y0 k! C2 m* H•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ! x" ?1 z0 m6 F) i- c1 Y. Z6 k
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by , Q: B0 a# U0 p  f
the board;  
; z4 p  v. u  V. x/ G& l•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  |3 |4 g8 b+ _2 ?% {$ Y•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
& P# o; A1 F9 y4 [7 O4 s3 ?the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 Z8 u7 n8 M" a& ?" C•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the * |3 Q* P/ D" p
changing needs of the organization and community;
  f9 D; U  a. a- ]•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
! }% N; [. e$ H$ ]commitments;
' C* ~$ [( U/ a* f•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
6 @  r. `9 ]( D- y8 B+ c( }1 y9 A6 k•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective $ h' F& l' V+ w3 }6 |- j
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
* B' K/ e9 {9 _& R•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) m2 g* a" O6 ^! c9 V& s•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to & F- R& @: y2 q0 `3 M4 u7 t7 W
effectively and positively represent the association;
) P7 |9 L' {8 D4 w0 w7 C8 I) e
/ @; L& b! z5 ]2 ]! |7 I- X1 _•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 X9 C6 L4 r  T
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  1 Z) C) h7 [" l+ }+ _9 E9 l. ~- v
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 Z2 k3 E3 ?* r- r1 x/ Wperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
9 P" E8 U1 e. m# M: r7 wthe forthcoming year;  % [. l. M5 j. B) ]4 D% m( G: I
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 1 r1 l& d* F. I: p0 V3 K  \
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
& n9 d2 Q. m' ^8 FYWCA Canada; and / \* x; M' j& X+ U+ M" n! V6 H
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
- M$ _% E* x5 b: r& wForces.  
" c& S4 r  L5 r" J+ n  1 I6 }& X* y9 U* f
Required Skills & Abilities
) x9 w* G& o1 p& A•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
* D" r( D; I, Y) J! B0 T•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
+ m# V) u9 u/ c; }( w5 O5 ~around decisions, plans and actions; 8 p+ I* r9 L$ H  j% \
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; : G; E- ~7 t! i( {1 @( p
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 6 F' m, m" X3 \; g, y/ n
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
1 z5 A7 X& O1 J. L•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks & `) d9 l+ G7 [0 ~+ |
simultaneously;
$ b" c, T9 m; w( a# g# ^" n•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 M, R& y5 X/ `
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

! I2 y- z- F7 e2 K1 wRequired Experience
0 [2 L+ m! L/ M8 X•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
0 b2 D! r" k2 j9 L$ ~0 f: f•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
, T1 Z& S) r+ x! {abilities;
/ [0 x  y- s2 U5 m- R, w" i: U•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, , [5 J! Q$ c8 f- m
Networking and Fundraising;
( k- S( Q2 Z( y9 v- X3 g' n3 x% Y•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
: N" b' j. P! xand financial statements; and
