Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
6 g% x& X; v; H  @5 s% \/ Zexecution of the YWCA Strategy
3 P- m* W' I% F) @/ h. B / g( p% U6 K' i+ ~- _/ X7 b- _
Specific responsibilities include:  
( t' L" d* A& \$ f1 b
' n+ c1 O. Q! x/ m- F( F; d! t' V•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 9 p/ d) b: k, U9 ~) y" c$ ]) U
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
& }0 \; Q$ Q' p3 i% s% r# _7 othe Board of Directors;  . c- R7 h- y( k5 q+ g# l
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 t2 O  U% ?  W; k/ ]
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
& {/ r, z: B6 h6 e" denable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
/ [$ Y; z, V% c: V2 z! @•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ) |/ T. t8 S: P2 Y7 J9 T& A+ d
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
9 J* D" X# o: x2 wthe board;  ' L0 I8 G) d, K  B$ `4 Z" ~, j
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  . r. a! q7 X% p7 M1 U
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
7 K3 a1 F0 X( l; k# othe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; k0 A9 _0 X! Y1 v# |% Y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
# D! h4 e4 C% schanging needs of the organization and community;
0 C  Y; H5 [* V* x•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
4 f3 [: n1 P) L& @commitments;
" H2 F- r0 {. k9 i5 Y- ^8 o) ]# I7 J•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
+ \/ N) W3 k* Q" }' y# _) X  G•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
/ l3 [3 u: s7 Uselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ; ]  X" |/ P. V- A4 ^4 k
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 5 m/ {+ j( T" f; \
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ! P. m) m* {; u3 \* m* V/ r% p
effectively and positively represent the association; & W9 y9 x! I: C5 R5 ?$ i% `
( N: G7 C, E& M
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 3 K* J. u: V6 e3 U
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ) q/ x0 y' w# a4 [4 x4 u0 p" u
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
3 \! U9 s( w+ ~- s4 B5 l+ }: c/ G& [performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
9 g6 g# ]6 [: G% A. w. s- athe forthcoming year;  
+ F( [4 t+ M+ ~  b; V•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 A# e  K2 v  M8 gpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ; [2 x! X& c) K$ I$ [* ~( c2 x
YWCA Canada; and
( y' f  |. I0 X% B1 {2 @: ^•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task

Required Skills & Abilities
9 N3 A9 n- h! n•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ) W* q+ j% I  S" ~0 x$ ?4 H4 x
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 G; M$ A! K* f, H1 V+ Q; a0 w
around decisions, plans and actions; ! w5 P. s2 d3 |3 P, w! t" l" O
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
) O3 `  k8 p4 h•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable " K4 ?0 O# J* |# L# }
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
! m$ y7 b3 Y& f' q•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks - U( d% L) q; c
simultaneously; ( b  }: H$ a4 @
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
9 d% J- @7 |0 d5 ]rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 0 r0 m/ F0 n! h2 f  C4 ^6 |, Q0 Y% l
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ' m) E7 W4 o+ ?; O* L: `2 f
•  Superior negotiation skills.

/ y; ^( v; k7 G" V•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
( V1 f9 |% b8 S  W0 o, w$ o$ E ; ~, c( {1 W! R( w! F1 d( D8 N
Required Experience
, v5 E0 y2 V, x6 S•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; " K# w/ n. k* F* O& ?6 V
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
0 X) h6 `! Q7 A  I) t; J+ Y- q( Rabilities; 0 f9 E- P1 i, z& o, E; P& z3 y
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
  d8 m+ v: X" X0 I% V; ^0 \1 DNetworking and Fundraising;
1 f. V' T- |% Y3 U# v  ]0 ^- g  {•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 1 t: \/ c7 [. |& S
and financial statements; and
6 y# q: V/ q% `( H# |4 J% V9 p•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 5 e" R* a2 W2 K1 R
