The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
8 g3 }" z: \6 Kthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
) |+ l$ w1 G& g1 _9 ]+ Cthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ; L6 `4 y' Z7 m+ n
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
4 J- F$ L( y! F( J( Ksurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
* W1 H3 h2 f" x$ D7 x/ @Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 1 `5 ~5 \8 w' ]; w9 e
community the agency serves.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
2 d, N" o0 S) {) ~3 Sexecution of the YWCA Strategy 1 U+ j; T2 T- N" Q$ W4 _0 B# t. l

) ?' s* y, Y/ Y& n; E( h8 USpecific responsibilities include:  
: {9 g* K/ Y& _ ) T; E9 t; i: m8 |& ~6 i( g1 d( v
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
$ J+ H, [8 |$ Q0 J' Z1 B# {# J4 Pthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
- ~+ ^5 v  b3 Hthe Board of Directors;  + \/ w5 u7 c. o# O
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 6 q# q7 `! p  l: ^5 t+ D
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 @4 e+ J/ E7 e$ Y5 i0 W
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
7 l7 l( f; }; t" Y•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and * a* h7 |" g% c3 r7 `; m
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by - R: t2 \; ?' u6 i) o
the board;  
# e* W1 @( @& ?! m  L•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
: T2 T' x1 i5 d% w* m" k•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ' w4 C* ]. u' k! i1 [3 x1 ^2 v
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
0 ~8 ~. t, o( _- h•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
. l/ F! f) g. K# y0 x# o3 Achanging needs of the organization and community; 7 i' ]0 Q( c4 e0 Z7 D$ W4 i
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
4 p7 F  `7 u" ycommitments; - b, z2 j& ~; E/ R
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
% T( I2 n/ k$ s7 H•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 3 {# \  d% k5 i/ K" P# c- E6 Y
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;    m, e" y6 {2 U* U* {+ O6 g
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ' z9 Z) b$ l! L0 s9 J# c/ I6 |$ {) G9 g
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to " t$ y( T* a" b; p) g
effectively and positively represent the association;
4 x/ M2 ]1 ?5 a6 f! H# |0 V3 t4 `# o5 ~, A& p
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- Q5 {/ w, P* v' o0 A$ ]7 `9 J6 ^0 pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ' h, T' c( u, L! h1 C
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal " u- m! |/ c7 P' t9 Q# l
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
: n. M' W/ M3 I6 a! d5 L( Lthe forthcoming year;  
( ^& _% P- s( N, K) o7 B" y7 M•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
# c. I+ T9 v+ ?* Spractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of : n  f2 ~5 U6 b/ j
YWCA Canada; and ! E6 D: P9 E% V
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 7 A& v0 ^2 n8 k* G

6 P, |' ^9 F+ j' ~•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; - G0 n6 o2 `3 q. M  S- \5 U2 k
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 _% }% F$ }5 m2 P7 H
around decisions, plans and actions; & R: ?7 p6 _6 }5 O* e) A7 E5 p
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ! d) Z, e: F& K+ Q
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
: A) j" T9 R3 h" Vand achievable with realistic timeframes;   E$ n/ d( U  v8 _/ _  u
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
/ p: z* C7 \$ P# K' h; w  Osimultaneously;
4 M% h( I4 W( c- V; B( m3 M•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
0 s0 T+ |4 \$ urapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

( d  a2 q& c$ Y' o6 n- S Required Professional Designation / Certification * E/ l8 y2 ^' i6 A. ^/ i
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. % E( D9 ?; d  ]4 d# K) ?

0 [0 u& o0 x7 Z# WRequired Experience
6 a9 U6 L4 k9 c3 w0 a•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 a  _5 A$ r5 A•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : |- x2 {( [: R% \& C
abilities;
& k3 g) J0 i  p3 G•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 2 v" A- S+ K* u3 f( O8 s  s
Networking and Fundraising;
; S( v: j" @% Q, X2 B•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting % ]5 f3 B; t, X  d; j4 @/ F
and financial statements; and 5 d6 R/ ^6 e$ @5 ^8 P
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 7 O6 J( z) C4 q0 ]  X' K
centered perspective. / m8 X9 x4 L8 j5 `; i
