The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic   U# Z# a' `/ F

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA & _' U  H% [0 y- D
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & {  L# X  w# x8 J1 V$ Q+ V
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 8 ]' ]9 ~; i, }0 c8 j

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
; {% d) g8 ~$ H6 O+ yexecution of the YWCA Strategy $ |9 P8 p, }$ p& s

0 X& r5 e8 e4 u. l3 {) x+ o" P& dSpecific responsibilities include:

% s. _3 c" ~: f) D•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 3 I% _$ V3 I8 u  C- {- ?
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by " r+ y6 e6 G8 U1 u( o
the Board of Directors;  ( s' Y) N5 `- A$ @% w/ ?8 f; R
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
7 G: d7 }# }' y* C: \including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
& I2 ^4 `8 _; F% Kenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; $ ?& v" Z% v, _! d- {9 D
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
* H5 X+ H2 [0 Z6 |! Z8 q# Xobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by , |% d: k# g# y0 C4 U/ `, K; B) z
the board;  9 ?( J$ T6 s% s8 |5 G
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ; x& t1 v9 F: V+ ~( B$ y5 P, e
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- b5 O  e4 z9 E. S% m' n  k, nthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
3 A) m+ W& b4 N) S! I: C4 S5 ~•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 S5 ?' n! f- {3 x# v; D& j3 Dchanging needs of the organization and community;
2 W0 \3 h; h0 }$ f) _9 @•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
/ [* K$ D' W1 q5 Gcommitments; $ o; T( T. @( m' B5 E2 V
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  5 k1 S/ h& s" U0 g+ j: T; t6 w
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective   M( _( R( a, u0 l5 v
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
6 w; V9 O0 W) A•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 9 w" v% m7 r( u' g
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
0 ]( ~6 e* L& b0 K6 _# Veffectively and positively represent the association;

$ B- H. J( V- v& L( T$ k* X•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
! b9 L- s2 R* r& M6 ?! Uthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  1 \# z- ^2 H. N" d3 k
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ' g' D8 s7 Z/ [) u
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED : p. g0 |9 h3 z
the forthcoming year;  ( f: o! H4 Y% D& m" m* j+ G+ p+ i# g5 z
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
) }6 }  w( r5 y) `8 vpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
* \" Y" G% w7 E7 q1 R1 I2 NYWCA Canada; and
% C1 ^7 [( G. F! S9 X4 T4 {. y8 N•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 2 P& Y1 X' Z/ i& x: t4 F

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; - L2 n9 U5 _/ {# f+ q
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable

•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
; W& O) u$ p' l$ V/ }5 u•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
" _7 R; S) ^0 O8 U1 \( k 5 L7 h7 y0 J4 G
Required Experience 0 T3 U. M8 [) p# Z- f
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; - ]/ x0 x7 Y/ J3 k/ w+ a
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation   n  u4 u! i5 h: u0 N
abilities; % M* P8 p& R" n2 e
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
) t7 K2 e) B) E' u3 A2 qNetworking and Fundraising; 7 w3 ~: d6 m5 F
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
8 d6 L( y2 t* E8 sand financial statements; and 4 }. ~* M* |- @0 q4 T$ D
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women , `3 U0 Q) N7 X
centered perspective. 0 l+ F/ B+ d+ R3 R' b% l8 N0 _/ `$ d
