The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic * C: |0 U' {0 n$ n

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA - b) S" P  r1 B9 {: Q
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
& B* v7 z% m7 asurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
. B! x8 B. C! E ! K: R' [6 x" m2 k7 e; P8 z/ _* p
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
! S( z5 R8 _+ U! sexecution of the YWCA Strategy
& x7 K  p* `+ I0 f) _& ?+ @1 X9 A 5 D: l8 g# w- {( s; Z6 @
Specific responsibilities include:  * Y# D: O% v3 P: w& a4 [8 _

5 u6 {, r' z) M1 t" n$ x/ s•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of & L' f- d" S- `) B
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
$ L; T% }& |% ~9 K1 U4 ethe Board of Directors;  % a0 D0 i" ?! P6 {
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ' T5 l# m5 a( h+ d' W
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 h7 n3 \$ _5 y2 G' |& ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
1 J4 F3 q; d% |: m•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
; I. O* S1 C( x* Pobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by " _) ^  R  Y9 {3 d3 g
the board;  
$ G5 J5 C5 u/ F•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  * A. X8 g$ N3 E" i
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
3 W) z" B8 |, }) b% z/ ythe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 }9 q8 w: B6 \3 t+ M, C
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the % v( S# U' X3 `8 t
changing needs of the organization and community; 0 x* X3 a- h7 @, U6 D! R
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 6 z- S) X7 t/ K6 {' L' P8 b/ m
commitments;   P$ w* p& R5 b& Q# P- c) e2 ?' Z
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
6 L6 ^. t  G* k  {4 J$ _. P& `•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 1 J$ @7 C4 Y1 O* O7 U
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  0 \0 [" b7 f* o! {8 @/ s
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # S# p5 c" n4 _( q1 g2 b+ X
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
0 o. h" t7 i( `1 ceffectively and positively represent the association;

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 1 g2 T( M# F. F, n8 A0 N- }) P1 Z
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 R: ?+ u- N& X/ \' `8 K•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
" y' P8 n) z' c, U  V: ]) |1 K; nperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
7 T' N2 l# i1 H7 y! athe forthcoming year;  ; G2 h! N; e1 Q0 e& t! R5 F" @9 h
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
1 [' y4 h5 \6 l0 ^. Spractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
4 J3 j3 C" h& \, W+ oYWCA Canada; and 9 M% m/ ?# z& @1 G, u
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ! p4 K' I: o8 V( Q2 E/ I2 m6 G

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 8 x: S6 I# ~1 [# F+ M4 X/ y9 I1 S
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
# f3 N' }. p( e! s•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 2 j! a7 R/ g5 K7 V0 j
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
3 N; J6 i" E+ L, C: ~5 @, ~•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. & u; D3 T2 \  w; {3 E: @+ b" }

! H5 e& h7 h* z- {Required Experience
* R9 W0 s0 B/ l% P5 [. c•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , G; w. X6 U2 q1 P/ d" C# E7 _
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 0 j4 I3 u* X  N% y7 T$ i+ I3 b
abilities; . B. H8 |. L' N
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 4 @# T9 E$ K* R( u4 I
Networking and Fundraising;
' }2 G' ]( F9 q% E•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting + e/ q: I* S* P, }* I) O. I/ X
and financial statements; and
6 h7 Q$ O4 f" p% r- z) |•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 ^# R6 O3 q) X+ G* Vcentered perspective.
