The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic * j# k' ^& c% n
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead

Responsibilities " s9 ~+ M5 B( O4 v) N

7 d) L# M, \. q3 m2 y, E% TReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
& U/ w; _+ t6 ?7 Dexecution of the YWCA Strategy # ?) x; W. Q0 i! J% S& @- B- q" }% o3 H
4 `, \' Y* k3 t7 w
Specific responsibilities include:  / m2 c$ R0 b7 i9 y- N
6 D/ D1 L0 J$ j/ V( w: I* n; |
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
+ x* O: A8 d2 F) R" ~$ n" V' R0 Xthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
/ R. w9 U  w$ d) s3 Q! Ithe Board of Directors;  
! M! V1 y) i" O+ K" s) E1 }•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
# m- v* g2 F, }- V4 `. s2 yincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 8 u+ ~8 V2 |1 r: j9 B8 D
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 6 m! Q& C+ o6 t1 T) e5 w& p
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 5 _0 d7 ]; {4 Y% j3 V
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by   k9 V' S1 R3 d/ |* b, w* m
the board;  3 l0 }4 c2 y' K+ w, A$ ^
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
$ K9 W& A) c- A. R8 S* M•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
' T, {  Z* m( V& l8 X) y1 ~the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ( n  N9 s7 r9 }
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 M% j  R9 ^( X0 }! _changing needs of the organization and community;
' G# a+ ^- N, t  Q2 Y. d•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue + I( z# y$ b+ C" q; q/ R3 H  _
commitments; 5 s* D) G: I5 o
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
# _. E! L+ ]4 n•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective # S, \* K' m0 r& l7 @7 y
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
5 j" T9 U$ L+ W8 P+ O% i•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
, m5 e" ?0 a; u" g7 V0 X•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to " z. n) Z* s! m6 N
effectively and positively represent the association;
0 [' `' R  f( M% J  G
' @8 H; F8 |& N" y4 _- X% |•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring & J. n$ x$ N' \- ~- }
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
. ]8 ?- M1 H" v( f6 x+ n•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 S, p: R# P- U) V2 J5 D
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ ^. j  _* z" M* qthe forthcoming year;  
. z9 ~5 j  N- ], W# Q4 V" K+ D•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical $ H2 C* m% |& G3 }. Y9 d# o
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 4 d% U4 C6 r3 B" `
YWCA Canada; and 5 }2 U( `$ V, a: V0 t* X5 c
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
- {! `5 ^' m! D8 v/ a$ \Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
4 x0 v% e; \0 L, `•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 9 L' t3 ~! |1 C8 B3 ~+ b  X4 S
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus / {  b6 S3 s' o3 }+ Q
around decisions, plans and actions; $ F/ W. i% A/ h) ~* L
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; + z' d1 w( A) G( i
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable + I+ ?2 X$ y& ^. M, j. }
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 1 q# E( ?' b" f& i5 H2 s- V
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
, @9 }' G. B$ B' ?; r# Bsimultaneously;

•  Superior negotiation skills.

. P( P/ c/ E/ p9 t9 w8 P•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + l8 r! _9 B* S5 M" v6 s
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
7 ^/ Q/ d0 v/ G- }% a, J# oabilities; 3 x) J5 s, r3 i$ m. y6 F
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, $ P* b* ]' |# T: x  c% P7 s. y
Networking and Fundraising;
1 G: R! u: S* @/ ~. X3 U•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ' v/ P- _, h1 N  g% M* q: m( i( c
and financial statements; and 0 H2 Z+ ^9 z3 s% ]* c0 L3 y
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
* V; w+ a& _( J: `centered perspective.
