The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 9 h2 X* G4 ]+ U% o% i3 g7 [: z
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead ( q' u( D* ?) d6 A2 S6 m: v
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
! Q. L( C" h% e8 [7 SEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and - F( p4 v0 I. H& j8 d
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

7 B8 M6 P3 w2 S! a/ G6 GReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 5 y, K& ^3 J8 ]3 ]% K
execution of the YWCA Strategy 0 R; \# l' g% z/ F* y
2 S3 C& H7 x, O4 V
Specific responsibilities include:  
0 T$ ?$ M# F9 g$ E  b2 O6 L 5 X; @* r  I4 q. Y
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ; ]. S( d$ b' _1 j
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by / M+ G6 [* }, y
the Board of Directors;  8 H- C: u* [) _( \2 r3 G9 G: q+ @
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 0 h; @- x; s! }  u. _
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & n* r; u, v0 K) ~
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 3 n9 H6 a. f2 z
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 0 n/ Y2 _$ j+ [- H3 K, D* r6 C
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by . s5 i) b# I" J9 e5 c, e
the board;  1 q: W- f, `. |, F' W
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  6 Q$ _0 U+ I9 ?/ s. W# F) P- A* e+ V
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
3 d- _( l& \4 r6 c% p2 Q5 B- k0 N; N6 G1 Athe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 9 t1 l5 e; c* P0 ^, J' n3 x
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
# U$ K& U# W1 Tchanging needs of the organization and community;
3 x/ k5 ]7 Q6 h$ B. L7 [•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
* X3 Z4 P1 R( U6 @. m4 |commitments; ! l0 M) C& e$ S. G
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  & y7 ], l* S& U
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; `  U- w, L( Y0 V* y5 _selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  % H, |4 x+ h" u- b6 `
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
$ D4 L, ]3 b" n! U•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
/ M  h# L: s7 O1 L( Ieffectively and positively represent the association;
, E- U2 j6 ^" B& W1 D# y5 W1 I" x
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
; L8 L" k0 z* E% v" T( w  ?8 wthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  1 d1 x  Z* p2 F, j; ]! ?3 e
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ q( {: n( g& I2 \performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
6 L, X" k% W5 R$ z: r; f( Qthe forthcoming year;  
( r) B' @; p, V2 f. R•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
, Y  ?8 o) V3 i- x% _practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
( ^8 d' h( z6 ?. @% h& w# kYWCA Canada; and % c+ ?! f( U: y) F8 p. n) @
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
% Y! p+ B7 R8 b3 B' r$ zForces.  ( `' ?- |! h* ?  h: }1 W! _7 P

Required Skills & Abilities
# M3 R7 t' l2 \( C0 |•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
% d# U8 ^# F5 [- J3 x8 Y$ Q4 d•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
6 J* L0 X+ u! r/ W& S: Q, laround decisions, plans and actions;
' {- U7 S* X% P: P: v. j" V•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
6 G4 H3 @  X3 K- g•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
8 W( v4 g7 ]3 Z% ]0 ^# \* Fand achievable with realistic timeframes; ) F2 l0 z! }- m
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks   B$ t2 o6 T. L, O
simultaneously; " U9 G$ Y1 t% u4 I
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
5 @6 Q; g5 M, ^8 a% Xrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
& R% }2 f4 x7 ]) V•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
% D) L6 f9 [$ ?, B$ L: o•  Superior negotiation skills. & R9 I- r% ~- e

; q! o# m' W" B# W" ? Required Professional Designation / Certification 1 Y4 B; D. N- x- E; u
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ' K3 e2 M# W, q! P3 @
* @4 H  {9 n% {/ c+ b$ f7 I
Required Experience
+ }( G9 c4 g; r& L6 B$ Y) S•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ) V+ J6 X7 O  K7 P, N
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 X/ S% Q( A6 e% t0 e
abilities; 0 U8 `+ C3 n4 C# ]
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 8 K% [+ D3 q; @
Networking and Fundraising;
' t1 u6 R% B# M0 C! P& f9 V6 B•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ) H& r2 C# E3 e5 k
and financial statements; and
9 }* t' c. k) q  t: `- s& M+ }" N•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
0 s) y8 _1 n% T3 J: b7 H4 Y6 v" y. Dcentered perspective.
