/ X) u/ G) E7 SThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
$ F) x2 f# A# P/ P! ~# O6 {0 D5 Zthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
6 _% D: u$ y/ athis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 4 F- Z* ~0 x# q+ A
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and + m" e* z/ d/ R6 H' y
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA + p& y. z4 O/ O
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the " |; O0 e5 Q5 Z3 z8 g4 j5 A

6 u) @' J7 p5 z2 |/ dReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
/ e" J) T' C# M9 Z) X# g2 Yexecution of the YWCA Strategy
( B, r& x! t9 n. n: R0 l/ c
& R% `- d' x5 L: H/ g% E; T/ KSpecific responsibilities include:  
) ]: F3 B: P% A9 z . @! }! u: W$ w$ i7 @
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ) o5 o& ~6 F! I: T1 o# l% F- P
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
: U, G6 D% ~1 q# Lthe Board of Directors;  ) ?5 n( H% l8 B  d) P! u
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
) G3 r- s4 G& n4 u% B, ]including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
/ L+ K6 X& A  w9 z0 @, o) {$ [enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
; i) W0 c7 B! ~, G•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ! R0 R) F0 G9 V+ \- Y
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
2 Q- K2 b, t" K" ]5 k9 athe board;  
# j$ p( `5 M! k! W•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
* l, Z0 n2 e7 z# A; x2 Z6 C9 x•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) c& t, x. ~5 x) v4 p: a  I; w5 Nthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 Z) B& U: o9 w" v•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / |+ P( W6 F1 D- p
changing needs of the organization and community;
: @" s. I. J% a: ?7 ^•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
7 e7 R; ^- j# s% w1 _: o0 u* Lcommitments;
9 j) M# \* p; ~' b2 i0 J8 U•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
( u% ~) {4 Z$ C$ a  l•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 N" M" c4 x) j5 ]selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
% s9 Y* u5 V  ^- D•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # R# r1 j! ^- {' \  k2 x0 ?) ?
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
0 E; S* }( o: i! X) h( Seffectively and positively represent the association; & G/ R2 Z) N) G  T
% i6 y: r& y3 f/ q# a
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
6 b9 K: A& q& h1 @the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
: Q2 b$ ~, I2 G( @/ O•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 P$ z( [/ |% J; H2 {- bperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 7 e& G$ D1 l$ O  q! Z! }
the forthcoming year;  
# V& K4 b* l0 M/ C7 j' `•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
. f1 o2 R/ D; s/ C: p- bpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. ?1 B9 S6 [' p2 ^YWCA Canada; and , ]  q9 D9 z3 i  K7 M5 B5 {
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 6 m# l( o5 J  A, `- _  X  E

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ' p* X3 R6 q; S; |
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus , F1 ?; M! Y2 u/ J4 W5 m
around decisions, plans and actions;
) Q0 K4 q( G& C5 ?0 ^$ ~. {: L6 F6 e/ z•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
1 O' p2 h8 y( Z( q. Q•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
, b! m- _2 S$ mand achievable with realistic timeframes; 7 ~* K% g1 r6 \: r( h/ U# B0 F
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
' W# {7 K/ D/ Nsimultaneously; 5 g# ~  v6 G& B$ @  c, y6 Y$ Y' D
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build - k, x' L* Z( l% v; y+ _7 q
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
; t6 E2 X& v: m7 Z•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 9 D+ j' g2 y: b2 L9 c
•  Superior negotiation skills.

/ K7 d- \% D7 }3 P+ I Required Professional Designation / Certification
! k& h- Y. R- \" S$ e/ M& D' k•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. $ N% p) ^7 |; @+ u! H7 T/ h1 b6 s0 k

1 D: j) V  `9 ]: |' jRequired Experience ) d: ]! s6 a- t% C6 p8 W+ _* S
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
& `% s/ _& W* ^% G7 s! f0 t$ g•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
3 B; `( O. o& ~& f4 X* Xabilities;
+ s& ?' b" l6 ]•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
: i4 H5 i% E) k( G: jNetworking and Fundraising;
% @2 b0 A& X2 J5 G- k% A•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
4 o) g" T# `7 W% J% G. ^and financial statements; and # {5 }; D2 ]( o- Z! t5 O+ b% a
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women - h6 n/ W5 b0 f4 X& I
