The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ) H7 N0 P6 A+ z: J2 [4 Q
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
- r- O9 e  r# n, Tthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
( L( n  W, C6 w9 v! `Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Responsibilities   u2 M$ C5 _; }, R) j

0 t8 ^- a3 s! v3 HReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 7 ~7 f/ v1 d/ I2 R; z8 k  D
execution of the YWCA Strategy ! b3 ^+ \5 J: l# r
& C4 M0 O, T1 `* }8 L
Specific responsibilities include:  9 z8 H) g% k/ P& e
8 M  R- {3 A0 G4 k
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
3 X* }: m, T/ ~7 P2 \the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
* }) p( R# r# X1 V! @the Board of Directors;  3 {' n7 S3 T4 R6 s) f7 [
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
1 g  x" c; u) O( y$ p6 t+ S9 y2 tincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ h8 O6 [2 K' i& O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ( F2 M6 U7 r8 ^- j! }
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
* ?# K6 s. g  }+ ~1 E& M8 Lobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by $ |" g5 E; i3 ~6 s& s
the board;  # l9 u) R9 m# x# ?6 |! T8 r* p4 _! ]
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  / d: ~5 N/ t/ f/ A  G. ?
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 6 L0 J/ b9 ~! g: S* h
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; % L9 M$ \4 w$ K" X
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
9 _! L) n2 D; @1 echanging needs of the organization and community; ; Q( H. b" s. e; k
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
! @8 ^0 A( X9 C7 _7 e4 ocommitments; ) U7 O+ ?/ ~( P" b  B$ C% H8 A
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  $ J  W9 p* Y9 R+ [8 b, g% a
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective " }4 Z5 a# S: t9 q6 M$ }! s6 |: F
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
, n2 i5 f* G$ H6 N1 k- c•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& M8 x, t( Y1 |) |, n•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 2 k/ C2 U6 V7 m: {$ q0 U8 C- Y
effectively and positively represent the association; 9 n2 N3 v9 y2 Z# i
8 t# n5 ^4 j$ B* J' I$ o
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring & q9 `* K# z4 n# p# o) {: b
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  & w6 b; s9 ]) Q- Q* c0 ^
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
  [) m2 J% }  yperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
4 _: _" k( Y& O; Jthe forthcoming year;  
: L2 ?" C1 c- F& |  q•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 1 |( i8 W* T6 K& M- p
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! G# z% Q6 J. }  `
YWCA Canada; and + s$ {* x0 T6 T: U! @. W- v
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 8 }! q' j5 S- Q5 z! m# _

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 G+ K2 D# Q. I) K
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
) r! N- O0 c0 v8 G7 g/ L3 zand achievable with realistic timeframes; 0 ~% i( c. N# T& L" }
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
9 a  s* [& f$ q' {simultaneously;
; c! ?8 c( j) a2 S( c•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
: V( I; c7 D  ~, t4 a  ~9 Krapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; + J2 X' x& i2 d# e  T7 d% H
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification 0 _  ?3 [$ {! k7 L
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
2 W: r8 \- E9 V
4 J# f8 v& d, `. o/ ]Required Experience 8 [" O  A2 n5 [6 Z; C( v
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
& S! c  S; R) }# z•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 t- j* ]& a" ^4 {: p9 ?
abilities;
( F( m( T9 [% Z+ j4 u+ B•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 9 ?2 ~1 s1 R# L' r+ R7 S% e
Networking and Fundraising;
$ P" c: r* P$ f( h3 h, R4 }" O•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting + M* \# D! c8 a4 W
and financial statements; and
# K1 v  B; F3 r5 X0 V1 c. h! c2 u$ ?•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 8 N# \; o( _4 }2 N, q* F% N
centered perspective.
