The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
/ F! e' R. ]  B) Mthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
: g, X; \5 R8 `this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
) D6 E/ p% [, A/ oEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 0 ]: U' G6 m. c8 w) R
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
# a: K8 b2 x( ?& N$ zEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the , j1 v7 l# D. R

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
) D3 z1 |3 `8 i4 J8 Oexecution of the YWCA Strategy
7 A& S1 ~+ c1 _' z8 j 9 H1 |( k2 i) e0 v, z
Specific responsibilities include:  # F: e, i5 `7 G$ Q( l+ \5 b

- x+ ]0 x! T- F: m$ P% T; F•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 9 U$ y0 j* n. p" l
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by / ^8 N  H5 t. B7 S4 o2 a* h& ]! ]
the Board of Directors;  
. `! N/ o& G& f! y9 L1 k+ o  c- A# }•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations $ Z/ J0 v0 {. d, c" d3 {
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 r& V$ y6 b, X
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; / o% E9 {- G$ [  P: d; ]
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
- ~  ^4 ?% I! V8 a) mobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
0 {9 N1 x% Q. q  jthe board;  + _! u: ]; ~0 [- }; g8 f( v; [
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
, f# w% K1 V' F: p$ W•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion " A; b' S$ Q$ K- y0 o! E
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 2 f* b4 f4 s1 R2 A4 ^  u3 O& p
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
  Y% J5 U) Q# \changing needs of the organization and community;
8 b% U' U$ R8 u/ q•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
+ c6 P- S( g! s; v2 ~3 T+ l+ Pcommitments;
8 w( J5 l% H4 \+ |# c  J& c•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
. K# r) k* w" I•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
: e  W' c4 p& mselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
2 y( o# A+ B! S- W0 |! \5 E5 D, \  F•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) c4 j) D$ y, o2 W8 j9 m3 e( d•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 7 k  S7 r( X, R) V# B8 ]
effectively and positively represent the association; ! @! A/ y' S* h/ |
+ w8 ]6 V4 ?' O' D7 v
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- o  W6 K, v. r$ x& f$ jthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ! @3 K" J# H  J& j8 T3 ]% k
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 z. C* ]1 ^" v! I+ Vperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED   J6 N  `9 r5 o* V& C3 d2 v# r( P# V
the forthcoming year;  ( z& _- B: {9 W$ u. e! |
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
) H: ^# B+ Q  O* e- D# ^practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
, Q9 c* F4 \  NYWCA Canada; and
6 E; v7 W- h0 A- ?: J, z+ D( U. N•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task , b- [! N; k" r' Q6 \

Required Skills & Abilities - [4 J( a6 [6 Y+ T' i" h
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
; I0 Y4 E( _2 T•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
! S1 |' B  C% paround decisions, plans and actions; ' e& A4 G: n$ \9 c0 b
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
5 @( j7 l6 L3 D, {- q$ a6 C5 ?  Z: \•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 0 ?& S8 w$ h0 Y( ]5 ^0 ?
and achievable with realistic timeframes; + m8 y+ o+ M2 b9 l
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
; c: k+ `/ Q9 P6 D4 Xsimultaneously;
2 s+ c. M% J& p: r9 |•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ) w' V1 d0 A0 ^  c
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ) \& j% S7 {4 a5 j; P4 C
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

: y% `( f% E/ U Required Professional Designation / Certification ' U# v3 c4 [, P$ W0 r
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 8 |7 e. w6 O) R( j+ k
  Q; V' j  u% F! y0 E4 t8 n' Z# {. Z
Required Experience 7 u/ a9 G2 h6 ]$ u" f, I/ }
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
  }  _' E( y0 p. o- k6 \2 Y2 E0 F- H•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ) N: X. H. `. X+ v
abilities;
$ T6 |* [" r, I' |6 e% Y6 P9 Z•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
9 h1 o2 N$ D, _, X1 h* tNetworking and Fundraising;
# ~8 c  C" {  e•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting & f. V, ~- m- B- y, x
and financial statements; and   _- N( K3 a0 M' [& P% N
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' |& ?$ Y6 C/ z5 k  ^/ b
