this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 9 B; o3 _+ @, e' o6 G& L) W
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
* D+ x0 d, E) y7 L1 esurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA * n, o) J# N& E
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the , N' h& U# N7 _3 w' R# }

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ' |" z; i! M0 B5 _1 p" @+ L" i  \
execution of the YWCA Strategy
6 K8 |2 d0 F* \' G: W5 x 8 d$ {3 c) E9 d- w) p3 W: e
Specific responsibilities include:  % H  F3 U- v1 o) L, b& a

: L: T7 O, o$ [( L/ y( B3 N•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
. H$ g+ C) K+ E( E/ Q  ~" |  y7 i% Zthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 8 A7 c: J# R& V" {
the Board of Directors;  
) z' H3 }' E) u; y2 C0 y•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations $ f, M5 T/ h' a& D/ T
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 a: C* T% g" ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 1 B4 T4 x. j2 s7 ~) c0 A# V
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
  A  L, X3 I' X. Y$ y$ |$ |5 l! lobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 8 Z. W2 G3 v8 q  i, y
the board;  
8 C  C; C( Z. U' E6 \" T5 N$ T•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
* t3 h$ @, F, v8 B4 \4 W8 M•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
. h) H0 `9 \, h* N. q: jthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
' T& W# U0 }- w9 ]4 g•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ! o( s4 v; }0 v# U+ y8 d- Q/ c
changing needs of the organization and community;   g3 I+ t2 ]. _/ j
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
: z1 R$ Y4 y9 G7 m$ m) O0 Q6 Pcommitments;
& J- e) K7 f: y3 j8 f2 x! l* s  x•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
& I4 `, ^5 ]7 f7 Q7 S1 O•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective   o, e3 o8 J, x* |6 c
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
* O4 S( r9 S9 N•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
2 E2 j8 c1 Q& I: A( I•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ; z; j* {8 y. [8 i3 ]& p
effectively and positively represent the association; 7 k/ a9 N  G0 \% |" v( i
- H* Y8 [! ?1 `0 `3 r
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
5 G- T! j7 k' b: a6 Hthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
) B1 I' ~: t/ H•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
# l' r$ N  |- p, _) S7 Nperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
! s& ~4 T7 k+ p( Nthe forthcoming year;  
- _# l  s$ E( A+ l' Q& T•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ' K! t7 P5 w+ |# o& ^2 S; O
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! I6 \, p7 h$ o9 F# W" `
YWCA Canada; and
- e  H0 m$ z, k/ s8 n# ^•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 7 B2 q$ i4 f1 i/ |. c- g( `% h( B

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
) q$ A! H% Y! o& G•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 8 F. u5 n' e' H: x! e
around decisions, plans and actions;
7 R1 m  a) ?; Q# V5 w& a6 m•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; - e0 D3 M+ T% j. h1 o' C# ~) m/ L2 e
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
8 y6 i, f, F+ H# S9 hand achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 b2 s: q/ [  I2 s, a( R•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
# q' M+ Q% g& J% _/ t5 xsimultaneously;
* S( P- G6 _" z: H•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 0 e* w0 w% g6 u0 V, F9 `# `2 |
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
/ T" b: R% D0 j: s* A8 ?4 l•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and * ^& l5 T# R# }0 Y* F. R/ J
•  Superior negotiation skills.

, C7 A" C" H6 d+ r" q( _0 [ Required Professional Designation / Certification 6 c! p7 _) N0 T# g9 n
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
& b4 s& k. U2 r( q0 ]
% h6 M; u: S" Q1 H3 _$ fRequired Experience ( S2 E) v6 s3 y& F5 @0 ~! y
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; # }) V- y( s: J! R
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
1 I# ~# g, Y! T! u" H  U+ h3 gabilities;
$ f) f2 R: F& P) _) `' k1 K0 Y•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   R6 D: ~8 ]$ O4 Z
Networking and Fundraising;
7 V& R/ N- f/ s/ d- O•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
8 w* g. d) f) \# B' j% H& l0 o% Nand financial statements; and 1 D2 y0 X7 A" \) I
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
8 s# d8 ?# s% l, G' o+ |* kcentered perspective.
