thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
8 Q& R. s, z% h; M1 R. Vthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
1 i5 I: D5 Q& {2 ?% k/ V2 G0 tEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
( o# C: {4 C" ?4 S' _3 usurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ! b  ]) X/ S' p
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the * T  \9 T: R) d; k1 Z
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities
% w* K1 ^2 g; E7 L 7 Q2 G( _9 Y' f% z8 H
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
+ f; {' s9 r2 s( R  M/ iexecution of the YWCA Strategy 3 A. N1 D" p. ?- m  @" R& G

( Z/ H8 G8 m( O. l* }Specific responsibilities include:  
: x, A3 B7 F& j8 H ( T) ~9 k2 s; L4 t
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 9 _; w; o! g9 t5 }  |9 a) |+ R
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by / a2 t' ?7 w2 X0 }
the Board of Directors;  
+ {. s% u( f) y& g•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations / n% x4 y; \; v- E4 K; F  m
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
2 J- S& T( I" B% w2 U8 Tenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
" f5 M4 S+ f9 j•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 1 i6 M& C' a8 T2 {
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by & H: [4 q8 D; W
the board;  2 K! T6 F/ A3 s" P) q- o, B3 _/ j
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  6 C9 q2 l; H4 ]0 C+ C, J
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- h9 \4 i) F0 _1 @9 gthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; * B; {1 G( l5 z: A/ y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
4 e! N& ?/ t6 S3 L0 p4 J! \2 Pchanging needs of the organization and community;
' A$ t6 }* ^6 e( B. r•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue - S! _+ g1 [" x% _8 t
commitments; . k  E. d- h* R
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
$ c+ a: g) U0 c' _/ Z7 }% g5 }•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 5 P& W/ T. Q* j; b9 z; t( o
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
( M2 q8 w% E# J5 j( A•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; + ?. J) h4 n) D. B, ^* S* S
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ F8 S" B8 G. z# |! q( r3 F
effectively and positively represent the association; ( n  B3 `2 W/ B2 @0 \
) V! ^) J+ D- n* ^$ a8 k+ g8 Q
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- N$ ~; @/ j8 B: X7 u+ O$ pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
4 M; \% _$ K% Y# i, M•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
- s: W6 a* C# q/ X1 {performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED & Z: K5 y2 x0 ]$ L0 v5 W) {
the forthcoming year;  
. a7 J8 r+ F7 l* n! v* K5 `# d, l•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
( A' G; q  L. hpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
2 R2 r! x# R# ]# A) K- Z5 v, iYWCA Canada; and - U1 t4 u8 Q) Q  F1 d
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
) e0 ^7 `$ N4 {- }6 AForces.

: H4 X8 J9 a$ t* [+ F$ RRequired Skills & Abilities
9 S4 v7 u9 H' M•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
5 r% h( ^; {( ]( A+ F( ]•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ) H& i/ c1 n6 ^5 ]! l. j
around decisions, plans and actions;
1 O% `1 ?' g7 i  i8 ~•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
" D' H' [, q' ^•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
- U; [# Z% E& z$ P* L. |1 Zand achievable with realistic timeframes; 4 }6 k5 g8 F3 y# `4 |6 ]
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks % f$ G, f( l3 w' u' H
simultaneously;
$ m9 `$ {4 o6 }! d1 o' L; t•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
, k1 s3 o7 V: h# b" x4 prapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
2 X' K( u/ J& R•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
: s% I" ~) a$ a* V  L# ~* R•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification / m$ |0 E* g6 X- J" }+ d* v, S
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 0 Y2 ]( [9 g. o2 k: \/ a! e3 j
5 u2 I8 L! S$ {+ @
Required Experience
* L  `. n' e2 F! P. @/ D- ^•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
( ]! R4 o$ \8 p, h% B* ^•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation + W% |; l8 }# w+ I
abilities;
; z0 k& W4 i6 I7 D•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ; l5 y" [: N& z# _, R* x# _/ z
Networking and Fundraising;
3 o2 L: P- V& m7 D; h•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
' y" a, r0 N# R5 Nand financial statements; and
. g+ M9 O, w4 J' q) X: u7 i7 |5 T•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
