The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 1 n1 M9 L* U2 F! k& B
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
) D* y4 n% }0 }0 e9 E; fsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA . h. S; d& D( I* e! A

Responsibilities 5 p. d$ _& d& a

/ T% [* c/ s4 }Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ) r  S; {! \& @& A' \) y" W" e
execution of the YWCA Strategy
) M7 F% n! b6 V. C+ q . f0 x6 c$ \/ x1 O. \9 P
Specific responsibilities include:  / s$ i# ?4 U7 U" _  @2 a  X

- f3 b- f& c! ]6 L9 @6 A•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
# _* b' k7 [; I, c5 X+ h, Vthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
7 i4 [/ T0 {% s0 ^the Board of Directors;  7 U, ~3 P: J* C# J' s9 N, O
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 7 Y' g# C' D( Z* Y
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
" {5 }. e5 |- I9 Venable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 z/ |$ |- n; j, d/ o1 A8 u0 I
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and $ e8 ?1 ^: y$ q. u
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by " w3 |5 ^" P& j( D
the board;    F1 ?9 z1 \! K6 S! x7 c
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  / a$ c( e/ V# P4 b3 [; S
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
+ D2 \8 h5 L5 M5 @: r: rthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
" B6 u; n3 B0 M9 v# f/ S•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the % T) U7 Q: W' b' E# L/ t
changing needs of the organization and community; - j! d! P( i6 Y2 N: i
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
  h' ^# O" A9 v; ^: @: k2 K2 L# R+ Kcommitments;
* ], O8 ~' r2 t•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
2 r' O, g. }; O2 i1 w) r6 i•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
$ ~4 c5 W: k  L, m7 l% {( iselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  $ y6 f$ W+ [2 ]' T. a9 t9 c
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 0 f! ]4 x7 l6 P) H) {% i1 }1 H' X" J
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to % f3 T( u/ }& F
effectively and positively represent the association; ) W6 m* [1 N0 U$ i* b; r) d8 y

' U$ P  T: N3 [•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
  z+ |+ ~9 Q4 X/ Q+ W6 f7 dthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  4 H6 @, [% t+ q3 a, i3 _) k
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ w$ Y& ~6 g" ]7 V) M2 k1 nperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
, D  G4 K6 J5 V- V# J( ythe forthcoming year;  ' N# Z& X4 P1 L+ {
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
/ K" x  {; L4 J- z- D; |practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of " \+ r. J$ ^/ C* ]
YWCA Canada; and * l8 w: @+ b; \2 K, m$ f! L
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task " t8 X! S% v9 A; n+ c, T/ O* B

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 5 A, A; n. H  I7 O1 v
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ! ?/ G' k4 `' z3 x/ @3 N
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! l& v4 Z4 o0 x$ c8 c, p8 v
simultaneously;

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ) j1 D4 d: }1 T. p
•  Superior negotiation skills.

' E: W+ R% P  q" S$ Q5 l' V•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. , L. H3 T/ s' o+ O7 f! d' w6 |

Required Experience : O5 ^: B& [3 ]! l9 }9 V' `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ( o- B2 H6 ?/ i8 o
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 J1 {2 P/ a$ s6 J1 R
abilities; 1 r* D" d# O( {5 M& m5 D0 G2 O
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
& t' D7 q+ H1 s! w* u3 [) dNetworking and Fundraising; : v3 s8 Z# j, Q6 F9 v& h1 J0 z
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
, ?& Y- g& z7 ?, Xand financial statements; and
( M, o. @( p$ S, k•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 8 j/ l% _6 [; S( a9 Z
