The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic & r/ z8 y6 z6 J2 ^
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
+ ^2 d/ n/ y6 K2 Qthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
9 g6 q$ u$ a9 JEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
! [6 K9 |4 d3 m  c3 Osurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 3 l0 A/ `% s3 A2 k% P6 L% \
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
' S+ E  y2 {* D- _% i5 m. `3 p+ Zexecution of the YWCA Strategy / m3 T& L  v: I+ _" W

2 F* ~6 o' W' l: I# x6 hSpecific responsibilities include:  
6 a+ i/ w; N1 V! Z1 q$ B6 i
  o$ e% u* R* R; C6 U. v•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, j* x* Z" L" m. x$ L4 ~the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
3 w1 E4 P* i. R8 k2 b; i& E% }the Board of Directors;  
% N) {+ S1 u6 ?6 p•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 3 h- q9 V9 e& [: I& Q: x; W3 N
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 6 V5 l9 j8 j! e1 {
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
1 A6 B2 H4 Y; v& ], c  j•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
! P& i, u0 v# J2 Fobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 5 G) {1 A$ Z7 z' ?& y# y% {+ S
the board;  
6 t( L$ O* g8 |; u* i( P" L•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  # H# ~$ ~* @. D7 j
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
  i: e, i& M; f+ c0 }  R, v5 ]6 s; U6 u& Wthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 2 c! v; Y) t" m4 P+ D
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
. d8 h0 @1 J" k4 wchanging needs of the organization and community;
1 ^) m3 H( `9 h6 y& L; Z  j•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
2 o0 _4 l/ W1 y$ |. rcommitments;
8 _3 U; \1 p$ B+ o& }) S, C•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ' I  V  v5 A. C! a- A
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
+ M1 T, O7 p' {" C6 }/ s0 Xselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  2 F% M- d* Q7 M$ W5 F! C
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 6 f$ E; b& T! X
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
& r, X: K4 h+ U5 C  p& e& ~6 Xeffectively and positively represent the association; . Z2 V" A% T( B  {
+ S$ ~1 I( o1 u$ Z) i0 E3 C: v: y6 i
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 m4 }6 c- f4 J4 `" b8 S$ E
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# f4 z% ], ?0 t" I! w% G3 @•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 2 i- T6 ]& \3 T$ u# I
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED $ g! }9 _( h& |6 n1 x; X
the forthcoming year;  % S" P8 U. c: o6 c: V
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
# }. t* H5 r2 M" @' F$ x# R" cpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
2 m' X/ ~# B+ H, a$ ?6 zYWCA Canada; and
' X9 G2 d8 E8 i/ C2 A& r•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
8 A8 T0 N. G& w& O8 KForces.

# |- V, p- a+ x# ?0 n( t$ n  MRequired Skills & Abilities
4 k0 z/ F8 L% F% {4 R) [) s•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ! `1 Z  o% H9 Z1 O: ^( |, w/ Y
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ' F3 ^% @  C, V* t9 S/ v
around decisions, plans and actions;
+ h- U% P  [0 Z, j0 y; ]•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; * K) r( l! Y" R9 j/ q- z4 S
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable : {  w# M& F) X( d
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
. T8 A- K9 G; y•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

% }4 p* w% {8 r% G•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification 5 c* c. f2 O. d, V" K& M: K
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

8 _# t. @5 E- N$ ?8 F$ P$ ^3 d# S2 PRequired Experience 6 L" f; Q* b5 I8 {* K
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 0 J# v. g0 T' D  t( g
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 1 A+ J( X+ r6 f) d$ v) R9 ?
abilities;
, s) Q- }9 G  |1 ~•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, - I( R3 U8 j! _' A" h. @7 ~
Networking and Fundraising; 0 M  F! ]6 m$ o0 x, k
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting - W  D3 n1 E8 w3 Z
and financial statements; and
