The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA & e5 e5 f3 }0 r: \
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 7 V0 [& V( I; b$ ]9 l" h# L2 {
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA " L) |6 X  k! s' m. G: Q, q& T9 ^
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

0 H9 Y+ h: z9 b& D, {1 Q; KReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ; U. `: R. |( ?" k6 X
execution of the YWCA Strategy ) ^0 u$ {: q. W
, z3 m7 _! e$ x- f1 ^
Specific responsibilities include:  
. U$ j7 U" I$ B1 c! c- k! o
3 T/ r, q* S6 v* H8 i•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
( C9 R: L. P4 E. {. M: Qthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
+ M5 V* J* F3 f" ~" ?: q! R' @& wthe Board of Directors;  
0 @5 K" g5 c4 o$ }" M; I) h- c8 {6 U•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 5 i. Y6 Z1 G* n  Z
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to : F3 E1 s# E6 h; T/ I2 ]# t" L
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ z$ m" A/ ^2 [•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 2 G6 H% G$ }: T( l- l
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 4 F. T: e: Q! f2 O; [
the board;  
+ R+ {* P8 G0 C  ?9 }•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  " [% B" V0 u' ]* P6 p
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) o  M) c  x" I" ~! [the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 Q& X5 R& T- M- k: r9 M3 z
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( w( d6 d* K( Y/ B0 }' ^( W. Lchanging needs of the organization and community;
4 w- U- ?2 y0 F+ a•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ! M  I, c$ _+ T9 M
commitments; ! ^! V) p& [: D# K0 F# B
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
% T; [' H% c9 K% P, U. w+ V•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
% d9 T( D" ]4 C! \selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  8 n- h' f) t; t' t
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ' `% r' [% Y! @8 f! M2 l
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to / |# ~* a# M4 @5 J! N
effectively and positively represent the association; 3 C8 v" B; u$ x& d# |
% U0 H8 T: a  u5 |
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
+ F# F1 e; K1 r" R3 e9 \7 x& ?) ]the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  3 R: F, s" H& E( }6 Z
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
, y- O4 C$ P  ~7 sperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
" C0 V) ]. e5 L8 S9 R* w1 g9 Ithe forthcoming year;  : S6 w/ h1 t2 p+ Y1 T! ^
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical " L# j. A5 [* W/ p5 Q  R1 l% r
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ) J/ c7 F6 A# O! U7 K1 d# C2 y! [3 |

•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task $ E% z! R3 G) P) s+ z6 `

Required Skills & Abilities 7 f* _: R4 W, ?& U4 j. T
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
! \# C: ^8 w% T0 B' G•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 1 N& b" E6 s5 U, e; l" n  Q+ n
around decisions, plans and actions; " k0 ^) w2 S/ h& _# \3 S
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
/ g; o1 X2 _. a" v0 ]•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
# }* P% s6 ?* uand achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 |4 ]1 ~, D0 \. t•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks   z# l8 D( v' j6 m2 K) t
simultaneously;
( j  C" @5 D. X; E$ k; s•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 9 w: X7 {* @$ H9 e! u  z6 Z2 {
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; # O7 P) y) x9 u8 L/ V8 U' `, m1 E
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
9 E' @' c6 y: r! a! D$ j•  Superior negotiation skills. : n- C% E' S# C' d

# l" P7 Y) K0 Q, Z$ H$ x( o Required Professional Designation / Certification
: u( G! I6 C6 S6 Q•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
- `8 u$ `. i3 ]/ }
2 G3 I) N# l. k0 c1 _% X9 ]Required Experience
1 @4 k% g7 C$ W# v5 Q: u- X•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + v) H+ J/ h  \
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
. ]+ r1 N7 h* I; K+ ?abilities;
# R5 ]# K9 {3 n* V" |2 ?. n$ l7 v; `•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
: I/ P2 B; [- k6 wNetworking and Fundraising; , u$ @( V3 O5 X* [8 l' M% r
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
0 f: ^6 ?' [& s) p1 j+ u5 hand financial statements; and
1 g# T1 a: I' w" i•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ) y2 K" j7 T$ F' N1 a4 ?6 E3 j6 n
