The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic $ ~% {* Y5 V/ T% Y) i0 s7 _
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead * Z( j: {3 j1 t, _
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ' {) P1 |4 u  ]6 W7 @9 [8 g
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 9 u$ b1 D6 A" {. K
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ! g( E+ L; A3 d. V4 `4 j- @

& W% t2 t3 @$ L7 L3 \% NReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and - X2 o- r) O, X" o5 o4 y3 i
execution of the YWCA Strategy
1 V1 R5 e' ~: p. d( g7 n8 ` + S1 t8 L% n" c9 c6 O
Specific responsibilities include:  + w$ _1 l. \2 h/ g

# e1 |8 q; Z. |8 s( x7 t0 S•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 0 P# d+ A3 i+ z2 D1 j, M
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
- A6 U  R8 a& r. f& l+ `- rthe Board of Directors;  8 o' l$ u* Z% g3 d1 I1 V; ]
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
* Y; \6 X; T- U; k; j9 _+ g7 Oincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , _- b6 H) r. k# w! |6 V- J
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
# j+ C, p6 _4 j* X•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ! N; F  W8 _( B( A4 I  i2 C
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ `: d7 D0 k7 V/ W7 m) k2 Uthe board;  
; L) s( Y: H) J# s3 I. W4 V3 r. |•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
; }  s6 ]; s7 Z$ c•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
$ c. r; ]+ e: [the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 4 d0 J0 S+ P; [* l" @& ?
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the . m8 T  n4 x/ a( a+ m* ^
changing needs of the organization and community; 2 \6 D. @7 x4 f1 ]
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue " r/ X2 J# |/ k
commitments; ; l+ v1 `9 _  Q/ Q
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
2 L% g( k2 }1 n4 t& Y0 _+ W8 l0 y•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective " a) `! Z+ D8 q6 a( `' |
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
' @- ]: l6 z9 ^0 C( h•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) v+ N+ R% }. A$ c' }+ Z•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
2 D# {6 Z. u# o  {. ?3 @effectively and positively represent the association;

! S/ U$ d( F$ X( `( X+ ^•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
6 W# B" z, p' D. W" w, ]" Ythe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ) M4 h4 \+ [" N# X8 w8 ]' M3 r
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
+ p4 N( j) ~4 O8 Z7 O5 X1 zperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( y1 T( |* h0 R% n/ E
the forthcoming year;  ( k& h3 c. L5 n, {4 S
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 7 ?0 h# O, L# Z7 J! B' R) O, e
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of , q9 c9 V8 ~* f) p' p9 }7 N, p# S( l
YWCA Canada; and 6 T# k$ ~) W9 V7 ^0 ^
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task / k% b- M( ?1 t" Z4 v. x  e! v

* V5 t9 b. e7 ]0 f- O: p•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

around decisions, plans and actions;
0 x, }8 A! n1 i0 i% N* S0 t  t•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ' E& c4 e5 y9 W/ C8 Z
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
8 N6 k" x) W7 N8 s0 {; Xand achievable with realistic timeframes;   Y6 A# U" y8 K; c2 \% s
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 2 F3 \/ O: F2 q8 f3 o9 ]- Y
simultaneously;
) f7 B& ]% E" G7 M  Z" L•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
. M8 D6 o7 H5 E6 X  }& L, krapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
3 r$ l% k7 v9 F  d0 h
( L7 N- D! c9 iRequired Experience   k8 {5 T) A' n  n0 o0 F
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 4 Z0 l1 Y! P1 b6 n  Q% S
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
0 [' h3 q% G5 ~0 wabilities;
; ~0 V* u1 E& b/ `: [# v/ z•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, - j( d+ l0 g4 j, n4 q, O  P0 a
Networking and Fundraising;
! b$ N0 i/ m+ H, c! q# K7 Y•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
" K7 G: \) U/ H& Q+ I3 m  V3 oand financial statements; and 6 V6 Z7 ~3 o+ y/ k* ]
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ( n* }% @9 {1 F# Z! ?$ p
