The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ' O4 V2 ^! |% a) W- D: D5 A3 `+ y
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
" l/ b+ C" F  U4 R' Q- sthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA : _  ^. v9 R& V4 }" O
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

, D9 G7 @- S0 y: U$ M5 TReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and   |7 I# g. D3 O* A2 Z/ a$ S/ _
execution of the YWCA Strategy   F& G' w0 o2 L0 K; B: J
& t' v, `) y% |% _
Specific responsibilities include:  % a# S  u% C: H% u
; x8 ?6 F: k+ g  J- k( Z
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
6 P# f1 Z+ p" K( p& g, |' @the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by + V3 G9 Z2 Y  x" D- Y/ ^
the Board of Directors;  
; M6 U! ]) J- ~2 {* o5 a' [•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
7 P/ M- s  L+ E1 W$ ~$ M& }including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # {5 U' W7 h9 }, e3 t6 F7 n
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 6 f8 x5 q. l# ^
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
. m, B0 b; A2 n0 Dobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by   W8 K7 ^9 m. R* W4 X2 F  N
the board;  ' F1 f) x( S+ ~1 y) w$ ?" k  U; z
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  # T  D0 ?, Y- I( |$ y6 K2 V2 q9 M0 s
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
. B! y6 u2 I! ~- J" q& O0 ithe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; $ U8 a" D2 ^8 ?# M( T* s
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
$ {. N  Z- b. }/ o' }- k. T- ychanging needs of the organization and community; 7 V  L- h4 D# e9 r9 O8 z( M
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
" x5 R2 {% E4 d) `( Xcommitments; 7 B7 v! U( E! ^" e# E) A( B
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  2 p" m, e( x0 O9 l( x6 V+ Y7 a
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) w8 Y: \9 k# r' `) w4 Jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  & C2 J, t6 y* u- k) W
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
7 g' z( d: p. s8 [3 D$ I•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 3 L+ ~" M. d: T! J% \9 S* n  h5 Y
effectively and positively represent the association;

2 k. ~1 P7 p  j' ^9 u( J# {# R$ x•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
: e/ y) R3 G* r6 [+ t3 X' Athe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  4 V$ F+ i2 `: a
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 8 N% y& u- D! F: w1 \. _7 @
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
- ^  W) M2 O  f, L0 y( @the forthcoming year;  2 x9 [" L& _7 a- J& B# u
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
' Q8 J7 W1 W% Q" v* Q! U( J! F$ wpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of , `9 P' X; G# `
YWCA Canada; and 2 I5 W8 a5 F5 W  w" b
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 Y, h- \5 E2 A1 c3 {6 u

Required Skills & Abilities
8 U/ \! }+ \. i# }  u•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 4 F4 W: C& D9 F& c  V+ }
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
) z9 R8 o  t" H0 P& d) H, n; a% v7 raround decisions, plans and actions;
9 D6 k) o. {9 w: s•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
& N4 H/ l. a" z3 e( N1 V•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable . @3 E( U6 F  J; R- T! W
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
* k) |  X$ R8 ?* N! [! C6 G•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 1 L' N4 V1 y, M; G' }
simultaneously; 7 @* N1 L+ s3 S) k1 `. k. Z) z
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 9 g# S5 G1 C! R; C( M
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; # h( ~- s2 r, A6 Q! @* _
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ; C9 ~1 |- f, y7 {& U; t7 W
•  Superior negotiation skills. ) p$ ^; j' ^7 i$ b+ O) `7 ~; _9 w# f' ?

0 D/ x! z, ~1 u( w6 [# J. Q•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
! b; S6 z# _0 G" D+ ?) E
8 v/ z: H2 d: A" g4 c& X4 B0 XRequired Experience
4 L. S. f' k- d  @. x$ u•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
: h6 H2 C8 k; q3 O# U0 T•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
9 X0 y3 h: g/ x7 t- @abilities; - r. F. l0 a0 e
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
/ H6 W$ D6 i' ?* @3 GNetworking and Fundraising;
, |1 _: ]7 x+ S" N5 Z•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting % m: H' q$ H; Z8 T* F1 `; I+ q; _3 o" {
and financial statements; and
! M* b  S1 ]+ H: U. T* N# O•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
