Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 9 @9 t# g( F" z0 F7 U& y
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
7 }2 P4 b! O2 B- O; w* @Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

4 t6 R' \: g4 _; zReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 1 m' S4 T2 ~! u1 ^# X& _
execution of the YWCA Strategy
. k, s2 E4 x- F4 P- P
/ M( N. J5 `9 `! J7 |: O' TSpecific responsibilities include:  ( j+ J: E4 \4 [  w" C$ G
& ^" _( e  n: u. [1 C* }
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ( A/ F! v, o) n  o( g
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 2 v8 f* b: l9 U7 W/ {" \
the Board of Directors;  
9 @. b! i7 R& K0 K" V5 ~1 R1 m7 Y5 U•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 k1 R' M7 {0 b  _1 d
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & _: Z, Y/ e4 G4 I
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ! N: `* `7 T5 K& y: L( F
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
6 v' _8 B9 H, o' Tobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
: b+ C- K- W  e: t9 q7 n7 v+ C+ `1 `the board;  
# T- I3 _6 M/ m  g3 \" q•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  4 r* J% g/ v, a% o8 B- n
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion * |* e0 f" \9 i2 K: w6 p
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 1 a; Z# w& b! J+ \8 x7 @
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ; M+ G% H1 V* a1 v* {
changing needs of the organization and community; ) z! `; j( @) v# ?; H
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 3 M6 h, B  s( v' [1 J$ ~
commitments; 0 Y" z& s) a' r
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  $ g8 U/ o/ H) |2 i! ~/ H8 d9 F
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 4 Z, \/ N- Q8 v/ k" S& J, ~' D
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
3 f* o& g2 ], h  C9 j  w& A& }•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # }( ~; z6 k3 v# E# }
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
. m% V4 {2 H3 A8 ^- _' g/ aeffectively and positively represent the association;
% ?9 [! M% N; N7 X; R; @/ `! l$ K' W8 W+ @, w- m
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
  @  X" f8 i/ X+ }; g* ]% othe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
+ r0 V9 J. u. w•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal $ a- d; I' f" I1 F2 M
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED % d  d" P, l: V; B
the forthcoming year;  / L+ m4 n; t* t" `( n
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
6 L1 ^& i$ b+ Z1 ~9 n( g! g# z# wpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. O4 F5 J8 `9 Z. QYWCA Canada; and
$ e; i& ?& w$ ^5 o•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
% y$ B' w2 Y' a0 ]& X7 A4 MForces.  + E: K* N7 Z4 r
  ( T3 X" n( l  A* M2 j3 V, o
Required Skills & Abilities
* F, u7 A& J- _2 F6 R! j•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
/ n7 ]% j% d4 i- V( F; E# D: L1 D: t. M•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ( {! ~2 I( K! U8 I8 L! Z# ^
around decisions, plans and actions;
: O4 O, i3 v1 H! G•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  B4 l: p+ v7 U1 l9 s  P# ^& i•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
- C# K# c4 K) q0 n8 c4 ]and achievable with realistic timeframes;
( }* b& e4 E  w& P" {0 j•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
8 d9 X3 q3 M, ]6 q- y0 Csimultaneously;
  o. }' v( o" _, l: r7 W. H•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build , ~  o% O, \. y' i- l5 ^0 x3 }
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ; N8 l5 `9 d* T6 }3 L7 u* _  N
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
' A% {  a2 i! d$ L•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
. s9 O$ n) g$ s  l- e9 _- @+ n " w, K& P: }& t  P5 B3 \' {# u
Required Experience 7 t6 }3 k1 a# F! F1 ?$ [! W: n
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 5 N# Z4 t7 V6 ~
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ! [6 A* N) {; J# x- {
abilities; 2 a0 m8 b7 T' p! c9 }. q6 }& B
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
9 k6 W6 ^  m' |& v0 M" _Networking and Fundraising; * F. |+ a9 M" q7 G- Q* K: c1 W
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ' x7 z' L1 L& I/ h" n( C) B7 P  h% l, e/ b
and financial statements; and
3 t) c: a- [- U" `9 x$ c0 f: f1 p7 T•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
& l! x! L9 @* L4 k! ecentered perspective.   U' }6 S- i+ f, q) E
