The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
+ F! f+ z3 C, ^* I. Kthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
! X: X& B9 q6 f" C6 }this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA # D) `) j) H4 v( y
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 1 K5 Y! ]1 f5 A5 k, K
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA $ A  V% v. H/ N, B8 S$ ]0 G
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

+ e+ h8 \8 Y; C: k3 v/ c" mReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
, }% m/ ~  M( P/ E1 zexecution of the YWCA Strategy ' H, k) j1 ~# Y5 [% |# U" _

; F9 @+ {4 i" V) h( N4 T" tSpecific responsibilities include:  
. Q& b( o  j+ Q" e. p0 o6 B 7 }( K3 d1 {+ U
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
4 _0 W/ ~7 C  H0 ?# ]' ]& v6 Ythe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
8 Q& Z  ^& z0 W0 @7 Q- }the Board of Directors;  
4 q$ f% X- K+ {0 l6 |. X•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations + |9 h) m/ h9 f0 h5 k3 t" V
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 ~0 a! x" z6 e# \+ M
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
/ W. L4 c; [, i9 ?9 S  ?•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
- g  Z- X2 \0 n5 ?objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by / k+ I7 S  O5 Y: t3 k' t; ~
the board;  / |# s* a" ?, e5 V6 A9 G
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ' F% s$ F$ z9 @
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( n* g6 S. f7 ?' _the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
2 D9 V; \3 t1 \! g) @•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the # V# s0 Y! e: v! J5 J1 l) g3 I
changing needs of the organization and community; ) R6 y8 f* B. v, o3 c  r$ ~8 |$ y: s
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
$ W2 a: x6 G2 Pcommitments;
. a) z+ V+ K3 V•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
( G6 W: a- b) l6 d•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
( I$ x* ~! u. p9 hselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
9 }$ F4 J7 [5 h•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
" W& M% r' `2 `- b* {, K$ u•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to - h+ q5 u& d- _* b" _/ ~# ^
effectively and positively represent the association;   g- ]: _/ x! W6 R" B

0 s" d1 k& ~( R7 i+ }•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. Y6 I9 H" m8 W( g/ t" m4 `  ]the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
' J8 M, x5 G& g( A+ L8 G•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal - c7 d! ]. i7 W( G
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
0 n; P4 }$ i9 y9 V1 [! pthe forthcoming year;  
' d/ `- B6 e2 y4 f$ U0 e•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
2 E& }1 r- v5 Epractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of . A( I8 s) A9 O  A- t3 ^# T5 i0 [
YWCA Canada; and , ~4 [/ ]5 q7 a" P6 }4 A
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task % c) Y9 p6 M' u, f7 j' A

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;

•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ) z0 Z6 x/ m1 Q) B
simultaneously;

rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

# _/ P+ A' |' D•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
, x+ d& M4 B, |: N; G# x1 x•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. # M. Y6 `1 f& C# Z6 ~. ~2 t

$ o6 z6 f. w) ]: s1 C& F; A1 ^Required Experience
* n% G. U: d4 m  e7 h8 O9 s5 C•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 0 N4 l% W) W* [1 H7 _; m% J6 @' y+ ]( D! C
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ( H. n. M: R3 u' @1 s
abilities; ' _7 y- Y  m7 m1 i% Z. N  g
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, . d; R( m$ A1 ^
Networking and Fundraising;
7 D6 [: H9 l+ c/ l$ L, i  x•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ( u; P* x& x; m/ y& Z/ ^
and financial statements; and 7 n) F: L/ v1 X% ^2 c
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
