this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 8 n9 p/ T! b* h0 l
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
& i8 b' G# }4 `! F! p  S, D" J, o! nsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
. z! W& e+ B4 H( K) T+ u : T0 \9 ^8 v8 K! s8 v
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
! n* c. w5 D* ~execution of the YWCA Strategy : j" \' z) i+ S

+ w: ]3 ~" J4 ^$ v; g0 B& ?Specific responsibilities include:  4 L5 j9 C  D0 C- M/ S0 H1 @

. A! y& Z3 m* j8 Z( ?) s, Z•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of * m( d0 R0 B  v9 U$ W( B
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 1 q* M: |* r. \( O) V6 s: \
the Board of Directors;  
$ W; F! l6 W9 I# \: u8 ], V% R•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
+ i2 ^* z/ z- F; d; R, [including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & g: Y. k) T4 r8 J
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 4 z: e% F" Q8 i$ @
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and $ N) p, p- |% x
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 4 e* g8 b# a7 P1 g. c( `
the board;  & L8 \* N+ V6 @3 v  x1 {/ L# a
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  0 k7 C4 i* u" T. U+ e) j
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 8 l3 [: v1 `; }
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; ]4 A; b; t& D2 z" i. W: Q
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
3 a/ S& H9 z2 d9 zchanging needs of the organization and community;
6 L0 `1 K* w9 ?: i" x. L•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
) v' H4 z8 q6 s3 ~. _commitments; $ O: m) u: R! k" ~$ w' g
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
8 T% H; n7 J/ B1 N) g4 }•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
* g* D9 Z- |2 A4 D! N" S3 I" qselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  : Q9 M$ I8 o6 Q* T  G2 d
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. l0 \, x6 g5 J, Y  m0 c$ }  O4 m•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to # M: y' j1 K3 k4 |( l. Y' d/ h
effectively and positively represent the association; 1 G0 ]9 O: q( }3 U% K
, x/ \0 E* J. T& q
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
' V4 Q3 S( j) Y/ t$ Rthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  2 U/ Q5 S/ F+ |$ h
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 z7 A* f9 A" ]1 E
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
* U8 c' N8 \3 q( K$ U9 Fthe forthcoming year;  + d  Y& ?* G4 k3 A
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
- D8 i2 v: @' r  x- Xpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ) m) |3 X9 I, `. }& `
YWCA Canada; and & ]/ G# R- n  Q3 E! i0 b! \; P
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task & q4 m) N& h$ F, S. n
Forces.  
3 @0 B% u! \# [8 r/ l% [5 Y' p  ( M4 y6 n4 K3 P* e
Required Skills & Abilities * R8 N0 s- `  A/ Z8 a. v
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
/ [1 K8 g% V. }2 B% C. t3 d9 H•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 4 U) m( @; A3 Z$ M
around decisions, plans and actions;
" O: }' K1 N! K# ?; U" a•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
/ r: R' p$ l- u•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 4 X) [: ^3 J2 l3 v- }( p% J
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ( A1 W4 H: \# E1 K& |9 ?% S  I
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
" I  |; m! q  Isimultaneously;
/ L2 s  U' v& }6 y/ u/ d+ F. {( u•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
" k2 X. V$ Y, S& i* Jrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 9 d: L; y& {& K9 H" J( v
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
: P$ E: v5 ]6 {! b6 N% o2 e•  Superior negotiation skills.

6 ]4 }: [+ l2 s* l Required Professional Designation / Certification ' _3 P( {7 E& f! t9 s$ R) Z
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. + d: k: Q, e' K# h' x

- P) Y. F# `, g6 [/ ERequired Experience
2 {; `. d- x1 M# Q' D  w" \6 Z•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 9 B# f/ Q4 {9 K* A. m9 X
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
4 J" Y0 q; x% s# W9 ]# b+ v4 s9 z0 Gabilities;
* r- C% i" X8 C0 ~  l6 X•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
1 ]; }, n7 `1 ?9 \3 n1 j' oNetworking and Fundraising; . S0 c( D1 G* m2 |- |
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
. @8 B9 ]* H2 Y/ v) Vand financial statements; and
; n: ^$ A" h$ }•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women   I& [$ g/ ~6 {0 z- B+ R
centered perspective.
