The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 2 \+ f9 V( I. R6 n
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
$ o5 R& V1 [0 fthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
* F1 L: c  _/ t' YEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & P+ c$ U! x; K2 r
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA   e& M9 {0 \3 h3 [5 s5 W% K9 u3 h' ]
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities 4 l, f- p# \3 |, G) J, V' z

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 3 D& T, l) g6 y/ U, J5 m) o3 T* L6 a
execution of the YWCA Strategy
3 w7 E1 V# v) e) _/ { + B9 B, I. V8 q9 p& A) Q
Specific responsibilities include:    }! q0 ]5 g% G  n7 ~. [4 J7 h( v8 a

% s8 d1 z. c7 N0 `( a•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 8 F4 Z6 E2 Y  P( ~* M6 X7 N
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
8 q" l) R  c- _" c0 T' wthe Board of Directors;  # r* Z* S( L$ b; y3 c
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
; Q# R4 q9 r" {7 [, [including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
" D' n* Q, j+ i! \9 ?- h& O+ fenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 1 G- `- {( ?. F( q' J# q3 K" [
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ) `, j2 I+ K2 q0 g9 ~9 i  j  m
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ! G- v' N( G, S5 j- w
the board;  
7 Q- ?+ b% a& }1 i, v) Q•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
8 I. P8 i, w" ?  z1 U" p& S9 r•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 3 A8 h6 R. N3 [6 |
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ' V% `$ e# s" f" Y. g! a
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 6 `. c& b6 Y+ C# U5 w& T
changing needs of the organization and community; 2 Q, Y9 U; S* M) M
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ; h# u/ L+ q% N5 N" ]* i
commitments; 8 Z2 y( e/ d1 L4 l
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  % p' r) k4 R: I- p. d' y
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( C3 R% w; [9 K, J# t
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
/ ~2 I, v3 P; b9 G! p! d•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; " }: C* i- a( m. A# ^( u
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 4 U7 P$ h, f( O% n
effectively and positively represent the association;
1 v' p, J. E1 S: k8 J; o! c/ b" ]+ y1 ?9 Y5 P2 c
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ! C- M: L( I2 v! o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
) j! l! {. ?+ I4 t6 \) u# j•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
9 {) p4 ^; h+ U0 P5 D2 ^performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
; r1 G0 |& ]# C$ n( V0 Y, v" wthe forthcoming year;  
$ m( C9 B7 q5 o•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical , M6 R; G- N, x/ X) G! ^. H
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
) o1 \6 D  i/ ^1 y  f. G# {YWCA Canada; and - I4 [) Z9 y: \4 D
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task , ~0 e- z# J$ j) W
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
: b3 q0 d; S1 B•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 0 y+ ]. H2 e& T4 g: O) |: I" K
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 8 F! l, k9 D* ]  d
around decisions, plans and actions; + a$ m0 p6 |% t- H+ U
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 8 ~3 J* n4 w3 ]- M3 D* G
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ) S/ V+ @, x7 {% v' c8 `
and achievable with realistic timeframes; * W  S3 U- r7 @* V0 S
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& N. u% X; }5 i5 Osimultaneously; 4 W. L. B' ~) a5 C. i+ F
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
' [( h) ~4 j4 V4 Y( i) |# Y! r  C•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ; e0 u8 ?& d  N1 d3 ]/ n9 G! K+ x

. v9 r# g% ~- f% _2 O/ v( SRequired Experience   Y8 ?" o% V! d) @& R/ v
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;   t' b, W, g2 B2 M% U* p6 Q
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation " o5 m1 J- k- n7 p, y9 H; L
abilities; + R  Z9 O* K) _
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
: }) x4 W  \8 O8 |* t! B3 b5 WNetworking and Fundraising;
& o: `+ ~' K: L. Y7 y8 }( I$ g•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
% `: A2 b+ h) {) pand financial statements; and
$ b& s6 a! e" R* _•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
