The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 3 w8 w/ x2 h" h  v

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA $ Z! }) d8 g! C  v
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and $ s. d: H* f: o
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and & D: E7 K7 W- W2 ~4 U
execution of the YWCA Strategy
* ~2 h, w0 o% W4 m* _  D$ o
7 l9 S- y/ f4 s3 g4 JSpecific responsibilities include:  ) M; f. M  R* \% }' G+ Q' {
4 H* L3 f* h8 U* R
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of + U$ k: F! i: b& s1 V. b2 U
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by / {, C8 ~' Q) t% x- ]
the Board of Directors;  6 @* [2 t3 `! @. ?
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ' J4 b* B6 B' D. u
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to * C3 a1 b$ S: Q2 [% Q8 U
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ ]2 y7 L& F$ j. O( \* W; J•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 7 S9 P4 _  \8 k2 N+ w
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
5 |5 p& @9 ^" m( P  k5 Uthe board;  
5 Z8 c3 \6 t" M•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
0 W  M  Y9 L) b7 \" Z5 S1 i1 N/ W•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
' f. n! G5 E( c7 Z' `the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
; I6 R) U/ @9 D/ b5 z8 f( P•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 7 C3 u3 y' O' l" J6 @: B0 T
changing needs of the organization and community; - T7 a- e1 F0 e+ [. s, s* B
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ) J; O+ d1 z( m  @! U: ^
commitments;
& t  q! q2 B; N" t3 i•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
+ O! }* _" T5 U6 J* D•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
. y  p. d, o7 u0 M7 `0 ~7 rselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
0 |6 w+ u$ k( _  F•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; , Z9 t, S' v4 p& x
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
: F& Z, R8 ]- a" J6 ]effectively and positively represent the association;
9 O/ ?" a  k3 f! s' ~- O
/ }  Q+ `2 S+ b+ A$ Y•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 8 J5 Z$ ?! c  O+ B6 g4 d4 G, G
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
5 j; f7 ~4 q7 c2 f3 M•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
' T  H3 E& r, C+ }! eperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 9 O" h8 [' F2 J6 a$ Q( ?
the forthcoming year;  ! y& }, E9 s, V% Q4 `- o
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ( d  L% c0 o* q; x1 s" w( \
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
' y% {9 v* B' i: ^YWCA Canada; and 6 K! J) x* e8 t3 w/ H# j
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
3 h: {3 X8 Q* h0 }( `Forces.  ! y2 Q' ?& O8 s: |( O& u  y9 g* t

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ; O7 ?# `. C( D( w- D" l  d
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus + h5 @- b4 ~; T/ J6 i3 o
around decisions, plans and actions; 0 Z/ ]6 F9 t& v7 V
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 2 X  H5 o: ]8 Z* w* v3 ]# ~! s
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 1 q' x" i3 k% A+ Z
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
. t3 g& h9 Y' r4 X" T) A, {•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
8 ?0 @' r  S& Q) Qsimultaneously; : n/ b( f( e: K4 `2 t3 c5 f
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
+ Z5 P2 F) Y- Y. T2 N4 Q* Mrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
9 h( w- @7 T% {1 ~•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

% L: Z5 o- w+ b" v7 Z Required Professional Designation / Certification
* \7 e5 a- O! e8 H( N2 s% j, d•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ( I3 W: _( j' B

6 e! o* U' f& G% ~5 ~2 S* L" DRequired Experience
3 Z1 b: [3 y, Y1 s( Y$ c; ~1 l$ t•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; - }' ~) T/ A- o$ \7 w% ]
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 6 O# k5 y, z1 ~0 Y$ o
abilities;
% O0 ^) v- ]5 V* w8 w5 L5 U! z•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
( q6 n! ?: n: B, |Networking and Fundraising; 1 d6 r! P4 I. K' p$ o( y
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
2 g8 o& G6 K, O7 s: M+ W( }and financial statements; and 9 a+ Y" e+ \, W+ _
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
. v5 d- y$ f9 E& w2 N* ~centered perspective. , L3 Y9 X& _; N. X! A
