The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
) P0 p1 d  ?6 uthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
: O5 D: o. P0 Y$ b5 j4 othis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
( G; e5 R' \# H/ j' ?; ~  EEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and / `! N. _' \9 L5 o/ [) y+ z
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA $ o4 v1 z9 W( b. o5 O1 _# S& G
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

9 {7 g: [2 k& i) R. \5 B( CReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 9 t6 c6 l) J3 T# h7 [4 {
execution of the YWCA Strategy
1 W* U  B' P$ V6 G) h 5 C& d6 ^8 W5 g% e, \- @: v, k
Specific responsibilities include:  
1 d4 K* n. E$ X / _$ X$ q8 g6 }7 I( N' C
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ; w3 O0 w6 Z8 ]2 I0 }
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ' @) Y  c) W# n" j
the Board of Directors;  1 ^+ K6 R3 R0 f- k
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations   Q& ?. x5 c4 j+ }$ \/ B3 a
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ( r3 f' Q; R/ r7 G
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
3 g+ v. v/ v, N, O# E. ~% k•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
7 @2 L( c: `8 c# c' H9 c* Nobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by : c* d& ~$ D1 R
the board;  
0 q# Y, }; H6 C. f•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
2 A; J: f: P* n1 q! y3 L•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) ]8 D; q8 ]- ]  W  _0 E4 kthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; # V% F/ P' t( [. e, G6 A' t0 c
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
& ~; a$ d! @- j) nchanging needs of the organization and community; / C0 G# A- g: [2 T5 d. q% c
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 7 S; H$ ~) z8 F" ^  E1 ]$ o) @& k4 p
commitments;
! E0 V% p6 U, r( U& e* B•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  6 O5 Z; m1 r* Y& x, F7 y
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 l" G6 o, P. e, _selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ( M! h7 ~: Q( k; x4 }
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ; P! O( v8 G; o2 ^! q  z
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
/ P0 W# W6 a& B7 C5 meffectively and positively represent the association; 7 ^  c. P/ O! R; v. z

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring , O9 l/ I" r5 B& M
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  : u  v; L0 E* v
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 2 S9 S( O! g7 o8 w) g0 ~; d% j
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
5 V* ^2 @' ^; Kthe forthcoming year;  9 P( t3 e! w6 F; {& r- |) E, w* W
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ! [6 z6 K' l6 X- N4 a
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
) T2 \1 C( A5 G& |4 ]; q1 c9 |YWCA Canada; and 1 z' K+ Q5 l2 S1 X2 _# l
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task   x2 `0 D1 Y# R, c2 |  o4 w& ]7 r

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 1 a+ c1 {+ e8 n/ H& _
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable   f2 S# }. `/ e8 |7 W# m! i5 S: ]
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
. h2 [) W+ e4 z- ^0 b/ `•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

Required Professional Designation / Certification
# f1 h. S, E# n' S•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
0 K; D" J2 H1 y9 n; m1 e
0 g7 c3 E7 q) N) V! {! O$ kRequired Experience / O  S" A0 y6 Z5 `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; / F7 E; a1 Z9 J1 S0 l, O
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 8 G+ [% [3 ]8 n- W( G$ A
abilities; ( J$ z/ l- N- ~  m, V. P: [5 G7 c
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
" x& e. n9 v) m, VNetworking and Fundraising;
& f8 ?: @/ M5 F•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
0 d4 L  O$ a- D  b. z2 ^# X6 l& ~( Mand financial statements; and
