Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 4 V3 Z$ n* x2 h
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA $ R& ^% x/ R& ~/ \# u( v2 {
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ' U+ t' e; Z# k* E' h' S

Responsibilities - V3 j5 ~! `" }( k( X1 h- ^" ^

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
8 [# a  Z% H$ ^) x7 jexecution of the YWCA Strategy . D/ q: j* r0 y7 _( C- J! d) A$ H
2 W% H& F7 V. A) K" X
Specific responsibilities include:  
' L6 ]& Y3 b/ ~! g% u3 z$ K% |0 Q 8 C4 s1 ]4 U4 ^# A* S5 T
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
. U/ \% ~+ b" ?/ F2 K  E& m# D( rthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 5 _6 r( e; z2 B
the Board of Directors;  / T6 V  b; h, j  @1 [
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - {. ~* _. {" k$ M
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 7 Z) J4 W: w: R) d; R) v) [  g
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
- ?! H/ u1 O+ r•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and * }# k% w/ A& _7 [/ o
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
% }0 P* `" _, t6 _8 ]* r1 q$ Fthe board;  
" f* V3 a) c$ L% w•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  3 t0 F( ?, t% N( a! a! z/ P9 s8 q
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 6 K7 m7 s4 u' w9 ^4 a/ }
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; q2 R. _2 T4 P2 S/ F+ Q* [
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
  r9 P( b# V, y& L* }9 S/ Wchanging needs of the organization and community;
) _" P& U( D: q1 s•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue - G+ `7 u: Q, J( ^% g
commitments; " v! [6 o* L% m6 l
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
: m; m% }9 @& o, i& O•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 5 B6 m* l3 u2 q' E4 Y" L  X1 h
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  3 C* D7 H2 @+ S; Z6 s3 I  t: K
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # @. a7 t1 W- k; t4 |
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
  q$ M3 m# ?# w) Veffectively and positively represent the association;
" A- n9 @( c% u9 J/ t" Q2 \( Y) J  e: R4 }- m7 f- Q
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring . x. _+ {& v% J
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  2 S  r( Z. @" l- Q- r! \
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 S# B8 j+ M$ L
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
) e2 N3 ]& W( d. jthe forthcoming year;  - v3 T- t. {6 ~% K6 x3 Y- f
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
( _. F5 t1 D) s1 d0 Fpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of * X: Q! I2 z+ B  r1 B
YWCA Canada; and : U/ x/ X% ]% u6 u: l
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
( x! H+ j; C! A" W5 ~: A4 H" fForces.

Required Skills & Abilities 9 j, u6 z* U% h8 C& ]: ~( @4 C
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; , @, ~& o: a/ n  W4 S* \
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 4 M' S, q5 F. N9 T+ O* {8 O
around decisions, plans and actions;
1 {! ^& U  ?& f•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
" C$ D1 P* V* `% G7 \( F: |& p•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
, b& {4 |. Q4 j' pand achievable with realistic timeframes; 8 ]' ]" t* r4 j, r. s
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 5 r$ i3 r4 K! O. k! i; @' P; X  ~
simultaneously; 5 _7 c/ E4 @3 Y# g& Y
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
& G/ B: F: m: e+ i' N1 P. grapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ; m+ I  j- T" [' |+ @  Z
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

* T* B1 H' X; b% Z2 A Required Professional Designation / Certification & B: [: R- b: b# Q- ^
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 4 `8 }6 d1 b. G+ q

Required Experience
# W; E; U8 q' B/ b/ Q•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ' M! g; t: V. v5 r. S+ `2 k
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
9 p+ |8 W& ?; g+ z3 w0 u  habilities;
8 [7 Y7 `2 X4 K" R- Q$ \•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
  L0 L: f7 {9 j. I( ]Networking and Fundraising;
& D( d+ ~) [$ X; e+ `4 h•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting $ m" X+ z- A" d. j3 i2 A
and financial statements; and
: Q. e4 W" \  [  N: L& D" T: G4 a•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
