The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic . h# \( D* J5 ]7 D2 H! R7 ^" O- B6 q
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
) ?0 ^  P5 F. d! n0 Athis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
# }+ G" G2 |9 _0 S/ K$ i: K4 W- yEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and # y# f2 s+ T9 Q$ z
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and $ l( N+ B, U$ L% v( N
execution of the YWCA Strategy
, f6 x! z) {) u2 J
+ \% M4 {6 q( N7 y+ Y3 s: bSpecific responsibilities include:  
! c. Y3 |) s1 B8 n( J * z1 A- b: }: ^
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ) o# F5 u. ]% I. e' s
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by " J' r. S' ]  D. F" L% a2 P
the Board of Directors;  : `6 v1 u- q2 I1 a1 S- f
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 9 ^, [; t! e) ^5 x( \
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) x3 P! g& H4 J6 w" z
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
1 \; n8 B, C( J: ~4 r+ L•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and + q5 X0 m! h+ }" V# g, h
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
$ F; ~' W9 U# V- w$ Ythe board;  
6 f: D: ?1 o% H, e+ Z( _8 e•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
7 ]: S7 p6 G( ^2 W& z•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
, ^$ j3 A8 O0 j" y% A1 @the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; s  q* @; h2 T, [* y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 8 f  o2 @. a$ F8 q
changing needs of the organization and community; : A: u* Z2 Q9 H# v. V8 t' z
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
( U* @. Z* Z& W; rcommitments;
0 w% t/ V! g% q" u6 d/ n•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
/ ]$ Y, G5 d  k1 p. P5 P•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective $ J- [/ k/ o4 l" J5 J; H
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ' {3 D3 @- y5 r" K: h
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # p  L5 |/ Z* F$ w* _8 u
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
+ V( D* C% q* n# j% @" neffectively and positively represent the association;
$ x: p9 P: K2 k4 t% ^4 n8 ?, I1 U) K, N5 R+ a. D' ]5 B
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" I% U/ G6 ?+ ]  Ithe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
+ Y3 k( C3 {. L•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
' J! y1 Q& B& Y1 a' Y+ {performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ! y) j, b. L5 p+ ?: G  X
the forthcoming year;  
, p; g4 C& g" z" S5 a•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical $ {  t+ V+ i1 Z1 N, B& k
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
' U" S# l# g3 xYWCA Canada; and
1 ~0 |7 }9 C* g* R•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
6 x5 k$ r0 A% m1 YForces.  7 A# @8 N0 B7 g3 C5 @. z$ s$ d% _- P

4 ~* x" E$ u% |$ V9 Y•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
" `' M6 S: d& _8 Y9 \8 Y•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
8 w+ A( Z! i  U+ J1 C; ]around decisions, plans and actions; $ L$ g% J! |) s( [( L
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
& l- S. a% H5 N4 @: P: \8 C•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
) [9 s- j4 o( \4 Mand achievable with realistic timeframes; 5 [3 O. {1 @) W5 X0 U8 }0 i4 t
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
9 h# H, g/ N; D( u0 isimultaneously;
, ?( R- G* l. m•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build : g3 O0 L" S6 @. K8 z
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

Required Professional Designation / Certification , |! |+ S& V0 A1 R9 U) K9 s' N9 s
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 9 _5 {8 p9 T0 c1 {% l" d6 A* Y1 W
* J; l3 x( I1 {* @) h
Required Experience   k# w* `+ f( ^/ f
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ; e5 a# d( \$ w7 O
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ) w+ G1 B$ U+ I) S& i' m
abilities; - {7 d6 `, ?+ U# Q
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ; [( ~4 F! G# c8 o  l( }
Networking and Fundraising;
* m% c1 s  P- ]•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
4 B# M4 G+ {- h( cand financial statements; and
$ I3 y5 r/ Z$ j, F•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 7 |" `7 U( l3 m" W
centered perspective.
