The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic - S/ z) v$ W$ S
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead : S7 ~+ t  Q: B! |, ^6 N8 E
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ( ^! B! v7 j- u* C# X
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
+ r0 C3 f0 R9 q3 esurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
* s8 ?" T! _, J" Q0 OEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities

9 s8 _4 ^4 H/ b' bReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and $ i1 Y( E% L& l  I/ U5 x
execution of the YWCA Strategy 7 }* Y* u1 q5 E: G7 T8 F

) n; z+ g, V) r* x; c1 S" s3 ASpecific responsibilities include:  
4 l; }# L/ z% H8 I . n3 T# X/ O  {; E  n* V8 i
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, \* \8 T/ a$ j  d! }the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
( p4 e! I, o" O( l$ ~the Board of Directors;  
* L' ^  Y. c8 G  ?( v1 R6 a•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
" Z: r- [* Q% i1 E4 N; O% x' k* q" p7 Nincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ' t9 N' t5 [. [' n
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
' O3 D- a; P' L  q•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and # h- b1 C& k! x1 [
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
# X" @# q7 f/ R* r* J8 n4 Dthe board;  
$ w( R5 J' V5 j1 _•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  - c1 Q; N7 E! S9 d) m1 O& I
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion / C0 m+ [4 b3 O3 Y* p
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 O: @7 }: s; o8 t0 K4 p* j
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the * q& F2 N8 I( B4 N% z; r% _
changing needs of the organization and community; 0 g. F# v& y* ]; O8 u; M0 h+ B
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
7 t' G9 ?: _6 r) J  J5 Q1 D5 Dcommitments; # x% z4 O# Z3 n6 @" E" Y
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
7 j; \7 u& k+ f$ \9 z, B•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 1 v% M+ _7 W7 F9 w8 y, J! q2 o5 u9 N
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
8 j/ ?. V* F2 E- O•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
' h# A. F$ I( p; a) }8 ^& f•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
! @! h) f5 L% r# Teffectively and positively represent the association; + V2 n9 F8 p! a) {; k
2 [. y1 L& ?/ B+ j" o
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
' X0 g: J+ p' g" c4 _+ o0 tthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 k" x) G. w# v+ D2 P•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
0 T" L3 ~2 B) C7 k0 Jperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
1 ], D) X4 Q- O9 H' t; [0 _! nthe forthcoming year;  
2 X5 z% U$ b" C•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
# H7 g; w! c7 h) B7 W' a% |practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
8 b. u9 F4 r% P1 G/ @! h3 ^YWCA Canada; and
& r; @" w; L8 R1 Y( B* p4 ]( u: d•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
5 W5 H; n8 Z7 T9 C2 nForces.  3 Y( J1 s$ v" E2 z% e0 C7 ~" B

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
/ l+ q! E6 H5 e; d/ M1 k•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 L" m2 D$ I& f
around decisions, plans and actions;
) S# f( d( M) c: [8 i+ W. D•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
" O, b9 E) l; a$ u( B: F•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
! c. t4 z* z/ o  D7 L! land achievable with realistic timeframes; 2 A; V5 }2 F3 H
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks * R2 T, l2 a  {* a9 a$ `7 {* }2 \6 ]) z
simultaneously;
) R8 S5 {% A. f0 R& a% ^•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
: z6 v  @3 F0 y# T* r5 b1 P* ?: P/ [( Rrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
1 [, e- n5 W- N" X•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and " l% ]5 D9 S2 O" Z% E9 W, y
•  Superior negotiation skills.

' y& L1 h- P3 {0 |! I" q$ m$ z Required Professional Designation / Certification 4 J5 f; b3 Y4 A0 x5 b! ?7 n
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.   U: X5 A/ w3 f, v% V
# V& ?. {: ?" F
Required Experience
0 q7 ^& m! F9 }9 P* n•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 0 |7 X( X6 F9 M6 V; a! z
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
8 g2 b# F. M, q8 M5 s/ ^% L5 U! Y9 gabilities; 6 a- n4 z  Y7 T( ]
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
: p' H- _" u# S$ q6 I9 YNetworking and Fundraising; 4 b- L& u; l9 r  ]
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
, v# n0 |+ Q! u5 C. k7 {and financial statements; and
5 E2 U- d0 O- O) [- T( u•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women . X2 C6 ]1 g0 h" {
centered perspective.
