this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA $ O/ t" g6 e- u) K0 J  b  Y
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 5 T, l- y$ N" H2 |
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ; I" _* ~3 X+ C, ~; l+ ?3 Y

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
! d! |. `+ k7 {# [execution of the YWCA Strategy
( K8 `0 r  P8 ~6 q& { : G4 c, n+ }" L8 v
Specific responsibilities include:  
* F4 p! V' _5 E- |4 o# U/ u! h" o$ R
6 S& c3 r3 C2 n; a0 H" o: B•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 4 y6 A! ?& V  C2 P* l$ y  F8 N
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by   k! n/ J3 u7 F5 M* V' Q
the Board of Directors;  + R  P! [& q& [! D7 _; `
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations # f$ ~3 |6 R, f( n
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
: {; `* M5 {% P, S  denable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
/ W1 \, w2 b# v. K* S; V4 o. g1 D•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and - p2 m" ]( G8 u$ [# Q) [# x
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ) F7 L5 z- A5 ^3 {
the board;  ; O, t0 e* O& c0 E+ X
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
1 y9 g6 y5 E  c  p! K; O4 N/ q•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion , V$ S; ~: s# `' \) |
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; % |2 I: z! p. i& M( Y# A5 N1 o
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
3 G1 j2 }* @+ E$ i) cchanging needs of the organization and community; ' N1 u' M, @- j
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 1 X! L. e$ x: E  j$ w' Y
commitments;
* `" R  x8 h" a7 G•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
: K# e2 b! ?- F# r; U•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
2 s* f9 u3 Q* c0 W7 xselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
8 z, ?8 o5 `3 c3 x8 |; y6 ?( h7 w•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ( d* C3 Z1 Y  _  i5 O
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
; f! ?* F+ q4 T! v5 C# y& ^2 zeffectively and positively represent the association; 2 U( f2 [5 {0 `2 a7 @

, c) K  p- h  v. p•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
+ s# T! x$ q" j) M7 g# `the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  , R; X& ]7 ~" `! H7 X; d& t- k
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal   Q, C8 y) q, E1 f* |& o& B$ s
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
' i$ e$ m' {  H" Z: G# qthe forthcoming year;  
( g+ s( }8 e1 B, j9 G4 Z•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ) Z4 t6 l4 G; e# \" t* J
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 8 p1 h2 ]$ G! z
YWCA Canada; and . b* q, J# i# P
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task , F6 U, l! S4 V
Forces.

' v+ D5 A5 [" F+ D% Q- `+ o& YRequired Skills & Abilities 5 F" g2 F3 M, H6 X# k! E
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; " p4 x! z* a2 z- [8 t3 K1 ^
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
: D0 r" D; A/ ^- U& p* oaround decisions, plans and actions;
$ }5 j, r2 \6 T! s•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; # I/ G3 v* \; N* _
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable / W+ F: Y6 V2 D& z: I& _: {
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
+ T. K4 s/ r  W9 S; Y% L•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 4 l2 r  L; [- y* f7 ?
simultaneously; 7 k1 c# V/ V( {3 H# |1 s( y. d
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ! X, q8 q- w; S1 Y' n4 _
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
, t2 g% c% f$ Q: Q8 C•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
+ C" s3 W0 b/ w% }•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 8 O* e  P# ^% Z( Q+ m8 a
9 Z6 z  ^+ V- k
Required Experience + m" g- l% e! O0 Y+ U; p) M
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 1 I  e/ M; M& A, c
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% P& U& b/ k: Cabilities; & K' Y  F! J& r( |' B7 q
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   |1 n  Q0 X/ S: X. o
Networking and Fundraising;
1 A( Y0 o3 R" x6 o4 |5 O, K, a•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 1 E$ x" N- R: o0 r' y6 s
and financial statements; and 7 O' R+ w; v9 g- ^5 X9 l
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
0 d/ M% p. {  _$ Z& \$ Gcentered perspective.
