this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 1 h0 `9 E! u' Y
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and . T9 X/ i& \/ m  J' R9 E9 d
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
! F& F! j2 m- g  c# @execution of the YWCA Strategy

# S* Y/ w/ I6 \6 V  |# Y& XSpecific responsibilities include:

7 t( ~- k/ l( m+ ^& E7 m9 u•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
$ X; O8 ]6 \9 w; R& W" athe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
" f3 L+ x# P  E) v& d( H. O6 V: Pthe Board of Directors;  % M: d; ]' A) ?, U4 u) M, i/ S
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
; T4 B/ s( n) H/ hincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 5 P2 ~4 K5 _( V, B/ C
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
8 l/ {  z6 ~0 E  U7 c6 Q; s' R8 o•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
* i& {. |4 O! r, V* i$ bobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ; W5 n$ s7 @5 Z, ~8 t
the board;  
% J* T: ?% l/ O- G7 o/ c3 i8 N•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ' ^6 }+ T4 h7 g3 w: g5 S
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
$ l  ~% N9 O/ A2 z! uthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; % U4 M7 |* z3 N" c
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
' r. {" x5 L. X" A8 i2 q/ x4 W5 nchanging needs of the organization and community; ( ~" x; o1 x, }
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
( g( I! j2 F. J& ~. d$ _" Ocommitments;
9 {4 w2 l$ Z: C9 V2 z5 b4 t* o•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ' \' K  Y" G9 t( Q+ E/ N, h
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
2 L+ n  G; x$ Iselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
! d3 S3 H& L; j0 w  T•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
$ k& e# r  i* h% K( W4 E•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
, k! P) W8 @# O  z! veffectively and positively represent the association; ! ~' f! u/ [! p5 x

& Z& j; m' b: T8 L  I- w$ R% S9 F•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
1 C9 K4 }( \; _5 n" J" m9 Ythe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ; Y8 G6 s" o4 `: d1 e, P% u* j- B- \
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 Z4 O$ _: N) j7 ^: @! Gperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
5 y8 s  j' \  ~4 [3 A& bthe forthcoming year;  ) t2 e+ a; U2 U  L# r2 N
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
: k7 z+ X7 |7 z0 ~% T. N: Lpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of $ z0 o  O+ d8 a
YWCA Canada; and   V! l& `6 X" P" L  K+ w
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
/ Z( S9 V7 q8 T9 z. OForces.  . ^9 o4 @2 E4 l# i3 ~$ }" a! ?

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
/ M1 q) X! o3 ]: A9 e, H6 p2 ]•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
- w! J/ }: \+ p! z" o$ zaround decisions, plans and actions;
" a% Y& l" d: A7 T2 _/ N8 `1 F, Q/ [•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ! `" D9 a3 t& V/ C1 r
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable - I- g- \1 K- k8 F6 f  i0 y
and achievable with realistic timeframes; - w7 z8 [1 M7 W5 Y' }% T: q' }
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build / z4 Q8 [! G0 b7 |9 O" F! V3 k9 ~

Required Professional Designation / Certification
1 d+ r# R$ d: t! ~•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 0 J* L; v9 I2 l
: `, Q5 S$ [  K; H9 Y& ^3 r# A
Required Experience
, F: U8 o! s6 ]" N" R' ]' K•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + H, h: d) t" a( X1 M6 o
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation # V2 w3 f5 U' R* K9 b
abilities;
2 m4 X- @  \, n/ X- Q•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 2 v) a0 N' U2 s3 {) t
Networking and Fundraising; / F" d/ q( g7 L/ P2 }8 y! W
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
+ _" G5 E! X- r& pand financial statements; and 9 ~+ ~7 j+ K; v( x1 D' L! j  R8 X
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
