thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
4 O8 p( p* v2 _  Vthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
8 n! C1 G: _8 |( o/ lEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & v6 J- P  j3 Z# {$ V! q6 T+ v0 p
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA + S3 L0 i, }" u0 `
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the : N/ z( d, n$ @& _0 O

Responsibilities
' m( _" X5 D) B / H! `  O) r1 O0 o
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
. e8 ?8 D) w1 B! F6 Fexecution of the YWCA Strategy
& Q1 D) ~# h3 O9 O
; ~, y3 M# l, X  f1 ZSpecific responsibilities include:  
' D: @' ^) x8 H$ c
8 B9 H) Q( F3 s- H  b•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 5 I# e3 }* l' D9 A7 o: q* i
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
6 G7 y4 O& d% F- K; N; S  _4 Athe Board of Directors;  
& {5 {- y. _' s9 j' M% z; B3 ?•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 7 P9 c& O' y) Z, `7 \) l- s. `) M
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 1 g/ ^) D+ N5 v0 i) |+ O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; % W6 f1 S3 @$ b- R8 t/ m
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 0 A9 s3 [, H% \- j
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by % h' Y9 T3 r% S) P; V  C  X
the board;  6 I1 B( f  g# X7 B
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;    U* B! h- P+ h) {+ U0 @( L
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
, v/ ~. O% K) @4 ^6 I1 uthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
, @6 G4 v( [# B" z, }•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 7 D1 w! x1 [+ J3 c3 ]+ Z4 D2 f% }$ z
changing needs of the organization and community;
+ r+ ~$ J# I$ `& O2 a' [' f$ |  l•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue   f: i: D/ l7 u. O9 R0 z
commitments; % p3 d7 @/ u# E4 M9 A; I/ C1 M; G
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  5 q+ c/ |7 R+ w: r4 \) y
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 1 s6 A' l3 f3 d$ C: ~" c
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ; n/ j7 ~1 ]. @. U2 Z$ h) M; C
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
5 t( |5 |# \& d. x$ q- f•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
+ P$ W( _; n, r+ p) L7 q* K* Zeffectively and positively represent the association; ( ^. |# W! Z! R+ ~" X
) O+ w. J5 w# Z1 o) U, F5 n
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 3 t/ B! Q8 _: l5 k8 E
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
) m% W; L' s- |5 e, B/ F& n: E4 W•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
/ O! w/ _6 v- Operformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
( u1 ]* G- Q0 ]the forthcoming year;  
" |) N! G0 s9 R# z1 L% @' O7 B2 d  k•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 7 P7 ?: P9 g" E, \  W
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
- b- ?5 F. B. k  `* `YWCA Canada; and
# K! M* ]1 K! a- F•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 3 _* B" H, z+ h5 |9 x1 u

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
2 N+ U! Y& i" _! V$ B8 x9 e' y& ^•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable , }# a$ i4 B) B* n: o3 j- K" X& }/ Y
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
2 A9 L! Z! r" m( W+ w  D•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ) Z5 p2 P; P2 t2 q+ ?7 V; W' d
simultaneously;
1 A* |9 j4 u* U5 x•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ) f. T: Q1 f# m4 p# G& Q
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; & C2 `  O) S  j2 m% T  E
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 3 X! D, O2 c0 Y$ I2 ^* X
•  Superior negotiation skills.

$ e+ h4 v8 k4 R! C4 n* T+ k•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
& I$ L- a. ^6 F
/ P) ~8 u, c, g! V* E5 ]% V2 l* tRequired Experience
( Q% Z, l  g$ t3 s0 G' U•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
' J& ?% y0 V; P# Q5 \$ ?6 e' \•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
0 `  r7 H3 Z# I- Cabilities; * A" m6 n4 X) }6 d- c
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 4 c0 S: A$ ?# j
Networking and Fundraising; + h9 D% a) Z* f9 H# F
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
2 ~! T9 W# r# F6 T* g; g0 cand financial statements; and , p& A' S7 c+ o9 v* S0 O
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
