The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
7 j+ R$ I1 ^! B3 @+ [4 Q5 Wthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead " o7 S9 l- {0 U, |3 G4 r1 E+ O
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ' L& ]5 M/ z: p$ G
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 4 K* {. k/ v4 J0 X8 q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
3 Z- \+ ^- J) \, H1 W5 }9 f: rEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 5 k9 I0 M+ l+ U3 H: V' S! L! B

innovative and dedicated Executive Director to join our team.

Responsibilities 8 k! Q  q' \$ ^/ i3 e" U* |$ s
0 R# x; z* s( }: v5 ?
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and / a3 t9 E+ B1 {
execution of the YWCA Strategy
: e9 z( R5 k+ l7 }6 _4 { + ^; \- a7 W. ~0 y
Specific responsibilities include:  
% C7 [; G; l9 n$ k 2 G& [: K8 x$ |. x: A- E! s6 @; v
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of / v8 b' [7 W* X
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ( R( ~  N" Y' W* l( s' K9 j; T
the Board of Directors;  5 X' k- X8 y7 Q6 H( a( C2 o
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ! z5 ]1 S0 }. n  e' e+ u) C% V
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ M) O9 D- e. e5 g# E7 K6 I0 Q
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ( m& B/ E0 D4 t6 U% j, m
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
7 g- C/ K6 ~3 W/ I3 Pobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
3 h3 k+ S, a- h( g2 E# kthe board;  
7 _- U2 T5 F3 \" L, ~( F4 J•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
% v4 l1 V# f4 t9 p5 Z+ s5 w$ a•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
5 ?" R1 K7 X) f1 c/ a6 J/ mthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 @0 R/ c) m% @0 z
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( _/ P0 k0 D; R% S! cchanging needs of the organization and community;
% o2 O. H4 @% [+ \•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue - g: T! E2 l% r& L1 C3 }
commitments;
7 y* y" g1 u( t( i. P•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  6 \" a$ }. H$ b" E6 p
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective , j7 N' {) n( U! C
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  & u, L/ i2 K2 X; n6 |; e: {% }
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& r; H& m! g& \- s•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
" f3 z, C! c; A* U6 {* R1 `- _/ ~effectively and positively represent the association; . a% l; q, x& i0 z) S$ s6 H( s* k( Q* b
: [; ?6 P( J( `$ w2 O, R; F
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 @4 ^# }* m0 @  G& Y0 `- p4 y3 `
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 n8 F2 ?6 C" j0 {% p1 `2 Y•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ' p/ T4 O; K& o! z/ I! [
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( g' Y0 `* M* X6 m9 s9 j0 w& H* W/ T7 u
the forthcoming year;  2 x" i9 g0 \1 _
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical : S1 j4 T( o* M
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of & d6 v0 v1 W) k% X6 B, E% ~" x6 l
YWCA Canada; and
7 m5 i- H3 F7 x; L5 Z' m•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
, I% K' ]. k2 r3 f( bForces.

Required Skills & Abilities 7 B2 {2 s- c1 j) y- K. f5 O/ K7 g
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
% l  [" f, P/ R0 D% t•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus & L0 _4 N# T  v" g$ ^
around decisions, plans and actions; $ R* Y! a! M- @6 B9 L
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; " y5 L1 D9 @( B& b
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 1 h/ e' @8 j1 R7 f5 j5 i7 J5 a
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 3 w% c7 ~' H' K1 o% s  J1 X$ W& }
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ( E# z! E. Q/ n
simultaneously;
6 u7 X6 a2 `/ w- @- h& I•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build $ }; c/ {/ F3 S5 U, |
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 7 H+ x% n2 I% F4 y
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
& W: H0 |- d" r' H" t. n# ?8 ?  H•  Superior negotiation skills. - l# p5 a5 v( [. D

Required Professional Designation / Certification
3 z' r# s# e4 ]. i9 G6 K•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. & L3 J) l0 h' b) O

% @) H4 [6 X" d- g; oRequired Experience
+ a6 u& h: s* U9 `3 F, P3 F8 j•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , I! J1 d! C9 w
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation $ J. N" p& I: Q
abilities; 4 _, o. V1 o/ B5 m, b! V4 i8 S& R
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) Y9 G2 F7 n6 T
Networking and Fundraising;
) P6 p, L/ ~2 i. }•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 6 Y8 ^6 w4 m- {9 k
and financial statements; and - ~; V1 l/ A; y- B" S
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women $ t! @# I2 g9 g7 v
centered perspective. % y& W" p' w8 h' x9 i
