The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic / r- U( W9 l' H1 x; L* ]

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
' t1 r2 P/ i/ n. L% C8 O- x+ EEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
$ L4 v* t8 Q- S4 `* |surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ( ^6 P( X$ O; n+ b! b
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

: n5 D. h( x4 E$ t3 D: W* e4 CReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 2 B- _5 u# L8 f! n2 K
execution of the YWCA Strategy ' d5 Q' x8 z7 ~8 p, c& [- W2 T

& r3 K9 l! v* A, YSpecific responsibilities include:  3 N: V1 v2 D( ]1 N

1 j1 @# X7 N1 x8 b8 A•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of , {' K1 z& ?6 ?. H$ O9 }
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
) w4 _: {- a! X7 c+ Y% fthe Board of Directors;  
; P! l/ X$ I1 e- p4 K•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - s- g8 c) L4 t2 _2 ?$ d
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
. {2 a4 H" K9 X$ h% Y  ?5 fenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
4 t* S% w8 \! m" g: l4 m•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
/ X  x/ ]+ N8 ~( x; F" Sobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by % i; n8 O' B4 p! `# ^
the board;  1 |, q5 R0 V& W/ }7 V
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  * ?: |5 A( Y0 r" z: }- H
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion - c/ i& r; I1 ~8 O: A
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 5 j0 s5 I# G& Z
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the - J2 x: `4 g3 f
changing needs of the organization and community; ! P" y; h# m4 [+ p( ~
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
. {  Y4 S- B, b! e0 V' m* Tcommitments;   I1 D. |; H0 k
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
- [; b4 ~# U8 h' s+ \: }# l/ {9 e•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) }' {+ k5 X6 ]4 o% Mselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  0 |" Q4 t7 D5 B5 o
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
5 F/ y- M: j. ?- y0 ?•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
6 r5 D" v% G' T- heffectively and positively represent the association;
7 d# }; o/ `, n$ t- n& z, R6 i$ ]
1 _# t' T+ M0 R0 g: u+ e•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring , [( S& x/ _+ N: c- A- D
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  . q' G. a- W% V: N! u
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ' I7 [. O5 _$ c% D6 ~7 a8 }7 Y9 X1 n
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 4 a+ _3 a! V0 n. ^4 i
the forthcoming year;  5 n3 m5 q* v: v
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
1 w4 ~: n! W3 q+ F: |9 M3 Tpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
6 a: r% I: Z1 t" `YWCA Canada; and " K' A$ ?" n' U" y# D) u1 g
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
2 Z+ G+ p5 a( j! f6 L6 @% T9 vForces.

7 e' i) z/ Z* s, iRequired Skills & Abilities
+ x) `# G  p$ G% g' R1 W•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; % q, }! A5 x) U4 D' L) `' i
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 N# P4 a/ i: A0 F* c% w* ?
around decisions, plans and actions;
& ?( L9 k4 J& i/ C) J9 [4 w* O•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;   W$ `' K+ r% v% z( U6 c2 O" U
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 3 i1 |; x2 ], W1 a: y3 Z
and achievable with realistic timeframes;   b) F6 Y6 T, N' i* u
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ) A! V( N5 s; d3 n  a: |
simultaneously; ) @4 G4 A- ~# a& V& T4 c
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
4 R3 o3 q. O* z5 c) F2 Wrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
1 Y( o6 B" Q* y6 L' z* |- V•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
9 J  g5 k1 J; [•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ; n* n( b# G! V1 d; Z6 P, ?! j! N! _

3 j! K* C! t/ n& HRequired Experience
6 R; T! J% E/ k: b3 C( C" W•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
2 P" m9 a8 N2 ]" s( [, o•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
0 y5 ^) Q! z3 r3 z0 \abilities; 1 |7 h2 i  }* d1 A' V& b
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 1 [. F3 J, B7 p; I; `0 B
Networking and Fundraising;
) T# Y4 q9 P( r* i1 u  p1 v•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
2 U0 n6 X! |- k5 B- d- t' T) rand financial statements; and
! `) g/ U$ `9 I/ c1 H) c•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
