The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 1 }# C0 B2 s# D! s7 q5 D$ {; @/ z
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
. v: F- y1 V$ rthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 0 n% W7 u. z7 d0 H! u# m" ?- E  N9 K
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
0 a# \5 |1 w. xsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

community the agency serves.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
: \: G; @% Y( G3 \8 Rexecution of the YWCA Strategy
+ g" p& H* n( Q
% I' z% G8 {! k4 S4 V0 K5 sSpecific responsibilities include:  
9 t- q3 R! v9 A  I: t1 I3 Y- d9 T ; N8 B* o# @7 J- l. ^& t, B
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 9 u0 X: u' ^2 H
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
3 Z& i: Y+ y2 K- k6 b2 T" T$ Tthe Board of Directors;  
3 S, J1 M! H7 _0 L3 h8 Z•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations % ?' ^7 `8 d0 U/ {3 S0 s5 C" f( S, D
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 3 i, B" U" K  T" f0 ~: I! t2 p5 F; P
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; $ U$ d1 q6 l6 d
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
5 K6 r+ n, t: X* g2 Jobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
3 ?: X9 K! X% O/ U( r! }7 [the board;  1 p: l; H& M% o) U! y
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
5 M& _  J" k2 M0 t0 j' \•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 1 r& a! n( K4 a; u" m/ }$ P) [: k
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 3 i6 W% u  a8 j4 g
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
) f* A3 g2 `' o7 \% Nchanging needs of the organization and community; 2 |2 U, }7 }7 D2 p0 I' z( j+ p0 x
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 7 R7 k6 s7 ~8 y9 c: A' ]: T
commitments;
/ B' N( f/ a# X% g6 u; i  Z, K; S, D6 T•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  - ~% e1 t. B6 u* H% j
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective , X  K: A% @( i% m
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
1 {+ ]7 q# @  J/ A6 t•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
8 u+ T. _+ O* W5 W, B) F9 v•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to # i" z" \/ r  `; C4 j  e% L
effectively and positively represent the association;
% w- N. k, _4 N# l. a/ v* n3 n
2 J) N8 F8 K5 g4 I. G•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
: h9 \2 Q# K; O0 P: nthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
. ^  F+ f. G, n4 L8 ^% V6 U9 L•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal # M2 \+ y6 x, Z, g* L  X
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
, b  g0 I5 {# }+ x$ M1 qthe forthcoming year;  
+ T' k" z( I7 j8 L2 D1 @•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
: {6 l. y* W8 w1 j  Npractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
4 w3 p" ?3 k6 n3 h( r; n8 ?YWCA Canada; and
4 c. @  {( _) ]9 V•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task

. t  b! \3 H5 XRequired Skills & Abilities
( }- y( M" c  c•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
: Y- C" p: S$ ^( {3 R! N•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus . K% d9 P8 U4 s: u# X
around decisions, plans and actions; 0 F$ q# W1 d" E# \2 m0 S
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  ^, }& ]$ p3 l: r•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
' N* _/ b. O" `& u5 @' Pand achievable with realistic timeframes; : [3 U! `* A8 @$ e: W5 Z) O
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
: {! k$ L1 e" i; s  B5 e5 usimultaneously;
6 z/ D% I) j; o* F0 j& r/ E; l4 _•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build + v9 J( |5 }. _& m* F+ T" z! g
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; $ [4 ?( p; U! U" m  t
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and " M( |4 d8 Q% d; O, Y+ ]
•  Superior negotiation skills.

! h9 p, R, \0 j4 @8 ], M: Q( X, L Required Professional Designation / Certification 2 ]) s+ d3 y6 ^: b/ ~9 X+ X4 T+ z
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ; m/ o+ D2 @* R
( ?/ d$ l9 l, c* N9 j1 ?2 |8 H
Required Experience
: o1 |7 j: J9 {) G& {9 G6 s5 S5 g7 V•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
$ h" d! z# c1 r' ]1 _•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : _/ k! i: d+ T( [8 l! |6 w) U
abilities; / O' i1 A. Q! g4 C
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
3 g6 m& K& d  T8 XNetworking and Fundraising;
- b3 U( K/ _: E•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
, W- _# d' s  ?3 W# w9 Band financial statements; and - s( ~6 ?, T6 M- J0 r& r
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
