The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic $ Q8 \6 k) e# ]' p% V4 T
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 7 _" m  y. s& ]& @9 g* k
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
+ c) y* U2 D. }( UEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
5 q( U5 d& g$ w1 t- u. qsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
0 u. o" ]' _( }/ }Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the * K6 y, z* O* A# ^: R" J7 h# W

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and : K( b, D, A: @8 T: L. `% b4 m: I/ l' l
execution of the YWCA Strategy
4 @  r) w: q+ T+ N* ` , l9 a; B; j" p
Specific responsibilities include:  
: F+ a8 Z; B+ t: g0 e
! i* V  X: x; J4 {5 j•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of % O- w8 h( z+ U: K% _; b8 u
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 8 B: @# L& V, N& C
the Board of Directors;  # I! e) l! Z" S% P1 c
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
- r$ _% i+ A) t& Mincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
5 D+ c+ l: r! N! }9 jenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; " ?5 Q3 Q3 a1 Z$ Y. F
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
& k5 Y3 r6 h5 x9 b1 S2 Xobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 5 E! k+ l  Z4 h$ y
the board;  ( {, K9 v3 y; s; U  e
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
- i& Y, \; b9 m: q# s$ I/ N6 d•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
$ o  M) H# m* ^& |the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 H7 x1 W& |. w: \$ p+ h; U6 n
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
8 n, S3 X/ x) V7 E' ]* ?changing needs of the organization and community; ! G% ?: H: C; Z! f: [' R
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue % t" e3 P6 j: O! v( A
commitments; 1 P) f$ g! ?- z: g; q
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
/ l- U" f- b) E, h, {+ G) h0 J; P•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
8 Y9 K7 t  n6 {. Jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;    f2 F6 F7 O: i7 Y6 y) Y$ W
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
- P: x* X9 ~5 S/ f- o* ]•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
2 K2 @% }6 x; s# |effectively and positively represent the association;
) I9 z8 K" @# d6 ^5 o; Y$ H6 Q/ R, p/ I7 p$ J1 D- d6 k
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" w0 `4 b9 f3 c4 X9 Rthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
( G5 d1 a& O  j- C# q•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
3 ~/ W1 z5 P) n  _! _: Eperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 4 Z+ u$ \; l: ]- M: W$ z# R$ A
the forthcoming year;  
. Y0 j2 l* `" m6 {$ e/ p•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 3 h; G8 e$ y/ \/ \
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! g( b# F6 c$ R/ a/ u5 p+ a
YWCA Canada; and ( Z, l+ \. l) L# i
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 3 w5 e* l8 Q# v+ ~: q# t4 k

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus % v$ F' e6 N& r. N) V
around decisions, plans and actions; + `! \6 L8 f8 ^" P. p) h& S
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
9 h4 A2 X* l4 p1 G, I5 d. I0 L•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable . p1 q; X2 j2 H8 A6 t" c" I
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
4 s# j& F% O- T3 {) V•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
5 M. i/ \; p9 \# {4 psimultaneously;
; T5 k9 k' e7 i•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
& V; i5 ~% ~1 K) M+ e+ trapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
5 d6 j6 X7 S1 G1 p9 F•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 2 m/ R. k( ^0 k& B3 K+ J; r% t
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification ) F2 x+ y& |8 {- i, F: }  |
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
7 K* F# A+ C/ R: X% ] # D5 i4 d  {) n3 Q6 I6 Y' k( d! i
Required Experience
# c1 r/ J* q4 P8 B+ n2 }+ c•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 6 \* f  w6 G$ o; h
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation $ U! M  c6 u0 A4 i5 h
abilities; ( A" k1 N6 F* Q
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
6 j- H* q) i) C/ X! W! ~Networking and Fundraising; " p7 E/ C' o4 _* V
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 3 w( ]0 e, ~9 ^  b/ u( Y
and financial statements; and ) k# n* h4 h. S) u/ v5 U0 M
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women / Q; X3 Z7 w' J, d, s: U
centered perspective. # U5 H) C5 T) Q
