The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ' R% K( t& q7 Z; B' U# Z
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
" V' r) y; q7 X) g4 _this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
6 X5 r+ W* h( Y9 |Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and $ s3 R" B' J5 c' \- [6 n2 L
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

- v6 ]7 F+ y: ^& bReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
: P: b" T" F/ l! Y/ d6 {& Vexecution of the YWCA Strategy
; I6 z! g4 b' S5 v: E5 s5 j7 S7 w ) b5 z/ T5 f6 u' T( v+ [$ V
Specific responsibilities include:  
' f# M. m3 i$ N2 ~% `# C9 I # \- W, I% p0 y6 \  V
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
3 E$ L" ]" j4 p8 B3 f" Wthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
* M6 m; C& R1 p- ]! m. }, @the Board of Directors;  
2 R( ]8 V/ }0 Y, l8 r+ k. X•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
& D% Y. M$ Y$ Q% t- X( y. ?including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
. [4 S7 A. W) v8 }- }) Penable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; $ ~) h' C1 K+ [9 j1 }" s, l
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and % U5 L7 E3 O( j" r/ ]
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
5 ~' s8 D- u! _: g7 |, H, Mthe board;  $ X" R% t' M4 G4 F2 ]/ t$ S
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ( P; H3 }3 z& \+ |8 z, ~$ o* V) p
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
, ]( }* F& q% Pthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 5 @3 x2 r" ~+ M
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
. b! u, k* e4 w+ k& ?changing needs of the organization and community;
* U* b$ C% h" B•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
! u6 z( n) j7 Vcommitments;
% S- e$ d$ t" C0 T( X" K•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
! Z- u: l5 _/ @2 Y% r•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( u' K- Y7 H, F# J; l
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  " t4 K# T  N: {7 A& s6 h
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
  o  V7 @* E4 p# i; ^" W* K0 m•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
, T5 v/ s. P2 a9 |/ G6 m9 ?# C* S! Reffectively and positively represent the association;
  [9 i! N7 \& E" ~4 L$ j: g/ G
+ c. p0 k) [) V& ]* c+ i•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring , x! A* D. _* F# S! q) j
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  8 r5 x8 ]7 h' t: |
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal / @+ \) T+ M) z' @$ I8 B, B( @
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 1 }7 j" C$ {- D
the forthcoming year;  
. [* d: J$ c2 p# I* D8 P7 o0 O•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
) }9 Y- I2 V$ R1 s! y/ {. hpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
/ N, y1 {- p. B: B' c$ j  kYWCA Canada; and ; Z1 T' G" E  _3 U, b
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
5 }( `9 \9 e# D' m# _Forces.  # N- a. u4 e" l8 W, x9 m& Z, Z
  # o4 z- ?+ d$ H2 ?/ I
Required Skills & Abilities
  U9 m8 Q) s) z" i% S•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; : Z5 I3 I( B$ T+ L1 F7 n
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
9 Y/ z- ]  T. T, v3 G8 s- daround decisions, plans and actions; / T- N, b6 z3 e, j" A
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
6 ]) D( O5 p% i" ~  d& `•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable   Z4 [. c$ z/ ^% x9 V  s1 f$ D
and achievable with realistic timeframes; : G2 W  ]2 R& t! S" w, O
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks * ~& {& m4 K  |9 ^
simultaneously; 7 l  O" V3 l. d9 s4 w
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
4 M( ^# Y! t3 h+ D- A- Vrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 9 i* K# P4 M. V, e
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
9 \! j3 u. ]" `- m$ Z) s+ s•  Superior negotiation skills.

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
4 P! E" J% e& A- Q9 | 5 g! }9 i) d" Z; ]& {
Required Experience 1 `2 h4 D4 Z8 i6 Z% ?
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; # `7 c0 H! m$ p* N8 ~' n/ A
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 3 e4 u, s0 f, d3 I  A
abilities; 3 j) X0 B8 S* W; F4 f6 C
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   ~. A& V' P; k; b0 {
Networking and Fundraising; ! t( j  ]. m1 m5 E+ V
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
( A, J- s# B/ Q, Y% N0 Vand financial statements; and
) y- h) f+ L  X! k3 A•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 2 D5 l/ o5 i+ n; }& Y" a1 ?- B
