this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
+ P- y8 r$ O# m; z& I7 mEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
6 }! N$ e4 ^) X, y& Hsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 6 V8 {8 S7 D4 q/ p# c' A: \+ D. R
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

1 U" E' C! N& J1 A* ]' gReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ; [. t# `- F) t4 @" a6 u# o2 A3 y
execution of the YWCA Strategy
  U! k  l- L2 [% W5 A 0 Q. g# t# F& m: H6 w% K8 i8 j
Specific responsibilities include:  
, U0 }) \. t- {* b/ r
$ r  N# N0 ]  v* @# h•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of " B/ p6 _7 Q8 R+ X  G
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
7 z9 ]9 M3 @# V# c  Rthe Board of Directors;  1 O2 S2 i. i  w5 e, F8 V' b" s! A
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
& v8 ~3 }4 x6 X- xincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
! ]/ @- L$ h' Q6 h. Lenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
: J, z) G% j% j* Z•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and : N, Y0 d4 K8 F1 Y, ?5 W
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
1 z* Y7 C5 D8 ~% \+ g0 `+ nthe board;  + J3 n, w  @' f# [# j1 v0 L: J. `4 I
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  + p) A& ?/ ?& m( j" ]
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ; ~9 h: v$ S+ M- X% T  b0 t# ^: O
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
3 n, v, m$ A8 R5 x# I  S$ s•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 X) u9 z9 v& P; f, @changing needs of the organization and community;
7 y  D" g6 O, ^, K8 M6 \' I" ~2 I•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
$ N9 G! N! B& V: acommitments; 6 C. C0 g9 V! _# p: D, T$ v
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  6 z$ W: L: u; H0 q( I
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
! X3 V: p7 B0 W! F& @$ W1 I! ~selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  8 [# W  i' c( u( W+ ^8 q
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
/ T3 q. U/ p7 q* e$ c•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 7 F  u2 W4 s+ d5 O
effectively and positively represent the association; ! Y% E0 _* f, b/ u1 N
6 S# G( H, Q2 d
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. \3 \! b$ V' y+ _7 {, S1 _the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
; V1 e3 Q, o4 b) n  s" L•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
7 |* D6 k( S% s7 L4 |performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
* K7 S3 d8 o7 U! E; i! d% Y/ Qthe forthcoming year;  ! _/ ^) O: w8 R, b9 l( V
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
% c0 v/ i3 G* r$ e$ i5 t) npractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 9 B7 [# j) L* P8 J& {
YWCA Canada; and
! X9 G1 a$ M6 T: u1 n•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task - s. E0 m! e, ]9 O1 H

Required Skills & Abilities
9 i0 u$ L3 i. `. b' J, f! u9 P, W•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 8 k2 v# H: h# P3 H" V1 j% \. j
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus : J/ @7 \) K0 J+ H! j
around decisions, plans and actions; - J/ B: l$ M% S
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;   Q: k2 D, s; F% ~
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 2 |( n) C' Q: e2 d; i' a" y
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
% ^1 O# o; E8 Q& e$ {$ I•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks * ]2 H8 J( i8 ~$ u
simultaneously;
. o+ @7 `4 l# f- e1 S•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
. W  B$ t1 F: O) Lrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; + Y8 a# x  |4 m1 W% T7 k
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 5 [; R1 L& T; s+ _
•  Superior negotiation skills. % L4 S7 K4 A+ L  a6 D* {, r; ]

Required Professional Designation / Certification
4 [! k3 a) ~% `4 k$ k) T9 c•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
6 m9 ?6 e& ~3 c/ o , J3 [6 T; d  h6 j
Required Experience + G( E. A5 t  V; R1 k: V1 A" J
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
+ e9 I  ?& M6 u  Y. T8 |0 G& T•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ' ^) g# d  G- v' s. F, ~9 I
abilities; 5 y6 ~2 G2 I5 d% d1 h
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, # [! m/ O# ~+ ^, u4 e
Networking and Fundraising;
7 R% l% t" h) d5 L4 b•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 6 C' J' C; b+ i
and financial statements; and
$ u* H% \- I# v; Q+ Y•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
0 p% ]; x- v& P$ \" i, a4 s/ Q7 m4 Ecentered perspective.
