Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
/ j& G: U# y% i+ f3 k! g" t! Pexecution of the YWCA Strategy
, s: K  {, p  w , P' x1 J, o) k- f: r/ A
Specific responsibilities include:  * H% \* f3 Y+ k0 ?6 w8 [; I
' v1 L7 V3 p0 W
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 8 x$ Y. [9 I( R2 H' O) p  T
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by + c  x3 E0 s+ t5 m
the Board of Directors;  ( N/ s* o( u7 C3 Z  N- {0 K+ _
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations * M9 @2 [* f  q* p
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
/ f. `9 |- q+ Jenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
5 [5 g' M" M' o•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
0 S1 Q' ^. J. p) x2 Nobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ P) ]1 e4 c8 h) Q' h) [the board;  
6 a% j6 @$ @% T% U0 Q3 S•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  7 h5 V& b2 D! W) ]' j
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion , L, h/ `7 r! q: q
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 3 S- L/ [; H# t1 S  l
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 6 |# d2 K8 E: _. f0 a) |3 U( o4 _
changing needs of the organization and community;
. W3 G7 M- X2 ~& x; P•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue # h  W, m# O$ _3 r2 p8 V$ C$ j
commitments;
* ^5 ?: B5 E/ ^6 J/ U, c& ]8 _•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  & ?" d& ~0 s6 H5 t7 d4 P8 U$ s
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
" F& P- A/ u* H3 jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  7 t$ M: A9 X" w8 @- R
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
! h, y2 n5 t' {* q% h: C•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ F8 T$ S4 p+ R$ ?& N8 |" a8 l4 ~
effectively and positively represent the association;
+ V. f( t) E. A+ d2 Q: z2 y4 W! ~; t& ]3 _! D: i
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring / C" \7 N: f7 ]
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
' }  I1 @& L+ V" x•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
: {; S+ n3 ?  d* [& v- ]- Sperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
" e. {: E3 m2 m. Hthe forthcoming year;  
( k$ o: k! e8 O: @' @; O5 g  @  E•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical * V% r0 z) z) b5 K* N& {7 O9 h
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 3 X% L/ s+ i2 q
YWCA Canada; and
6 U1 w3 {( v6 A•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
1 G( l0 Q. X, |" tForces.  - X9 w  V0 K7 ?" J2 K: E

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
& R+ O" u1 c0 I$ y•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus . ?$ V/ m4 y! u( E
around decisions, plans and actions;
/ M" @4 d% }& l+ k# ?- R4 n: m•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
6 X1 I1 i7 \' T7 |1 S! N0 k5 f7 _/ l•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
6 V$ f' Q* N3 h- xand achievable with realistic timeframes;
) _$ g5 }9 y* c* {9 \. R: P( ]•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks * S6 J: R! @% O% g# {
simultaneously; % Z! b9 I& o0 g6 C  T
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
- {2 e5 P; `! Z, A, K4 Hrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
8 {% r; D1 t" |, H•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
( }6 y0 }' {" q5 t+ [•  Superior negotiation skills. 4 Q" T4 @8 Z" d8 U, l# ]0 B3 g5 t

. d+ _' B8 b; ]8 i% x5 X Required Professional Designation / Certification 6 k$ U4 D( C' G! j' \( w
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. - C! I7 D4 K  S8 m; I9 V( @
1 i" y. ]8 t% {6 o9 o5 K
Required Experience $ u. P7 I( y1 G9 ^3 a4 m4 ~3 `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
! t4 G- C# B$ h3 _7 X' T  E•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation & X  J4 ^& v6 U4 I* n' N, K, r) I
abilities; + a- B- J2 L9 f4 O2 _
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, " S! e4 D2 W& ~1 N* v1 z* r$ g' u. X
Networking and Fundraising; 7 X4 G# E+ N& Q  X* s+ G+ r$ k  M
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
, Q/ `! i# t# h2 T1 S4 oand financial statements; and
, \) ?. v9 k$ f4 }5 k•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 8 e+ l# h$ h# m
centered perspective.
