The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
/ f9 f/ V7 F. Q, othinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead - G4 C" ^  S$ E# S
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 2 ~5 G: @2 U: Y1 B# I6 \, |) g
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
, G" O; g0 P3 V$ O( @surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ! B9 l& X) E3 h
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities   _$ b5 W7 y* I- M

7 U) R  ], }% s2 ?1 T) wReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
: g- O5 Z5 V* ?: L( |0 U9 rexecution of the YWCA Strategy
) C4 A8 b' w* U! x0 s2 [* Q7 _
2 y- a- }1 f4 [' S  C4 QSpecific responsibilities include:  
% _" {  H5 \, a
: R- R  P' J. d•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
* T$ h% M! P& Qthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by $ T/ p" C3 h, A, W
the Board of Directors;  
. B5 S) z, S/ U0 e6 b  x. U•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
- z! t2 S: `, @including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # v" C" P( z$ }/ O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 5 C8 R& N% E8 j  c" d3 o
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ( s4 q: B2 ?8 R$ E' M9 @# \* I7 E1 ^
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
4 s8 L. y5 k; c! \the board;  
) D; Y. q) e. G* I•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# j4 o2 M6 Z0 j# _/ f7 U9 V/ i+ Y•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
# d7 Q7 |5 R2 ~) Z' E1 K# W% Othe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
$ [2 Q1 g* ~- Y2 e/ K, ]1 j•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the $ X  ]! B* Z' R. f& v9 B$ A9 S* F
changing needs of the organization and community; 1 T( p* f3 b3 n' K+ O8 q
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
$ \7 d' e* ?1 o; _commitments; * V1 f. t' W/ I# z$ I
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 W) _# @( X6 M! v) W
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 F" _. o4 g+ gselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
5 T1 t, T) F1 |! d- K•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
  J4 w+ S( ]( N0 b* Z•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 7 x( L: O( i- p+ |& t* d! {
effectively and positively represent the association; & e8 v( ^' s# a  l; \4 F6 ]# x
# L$ R1 z# ~" Z4 _% a
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
( R) S7 n# l9 o  vthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  , _* V; D, f! Y% v
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal   T+ E6 N8 S* |  e0 ~, d5 D" W: v: m
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
- |. M0 q' {0 P# J  p2 }; g0 H4 Ythe forthcoming year;  : s" @( h) n% V- m4 [+ z
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 1 H8 l+ b. O) {$ z
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
6 G) Q# A- ~+ m* q3 b6 m1 UYWCA Canada; and
1 C  _  h( ]+ q7 z1 Q2 Y$ i•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
5 S0 n# ^8 x/ ^7 T" W/ FForces.  - L( c  |9 s7 t, B% D

. w+ y2 j  v* W0 v0 q•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; # }" E1 T1 H( ?/ i8 |" i% `0 s
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus # X8 N7 ^3 g! Z! A" v) A9 X
around decisions, plans and actions; * r! x, L: x5 m/ b
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; " ^. k+ V/ I$ e# S9 U
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable + h5 [4 N& u$ [  z
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 8 s- y- M  h8 C+ q# B! c3 o. v0 M
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks $ P; N. J0 U0 v# i- g$ Z
simultaneously; 6 V& t. q8 ^/ y2 |7 G
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build   I. O7 K) c8 K, Z3 G
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
; c) U# _7 g, y0 }9 R•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
3 I" E5 l0 o7 M8 b* \•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. $ b% s1 I" x4 p0 o
" J/ O1 j, V0 [6 L$ `
Required Experience 9 ]+ G& P4 K  q, y5 U* A" _
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
, L% ~, u1 h  U8 T9 z•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 4 f. ~4 M0 h2 @8 t
abilities;
8 i5 r- ?! ~8 [% X; R) Z8 ~3 B•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
3 N; K* n2 M6 X* {Networking and Fundraising;
: N7 ~! P1 }3 ?7 V: ~0 D•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
" K7 }; x* O, _, a$ O) P" iand financial statements; and : w, g. W) ?: d* P. @4 w  o7 K3 t
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 0 p4 q. s1 ?' P( w) V
