The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic $ c+ c0 `4 y' Q6 r2 E. B: `( g' p
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 0 C% i8 R2 ]" @3 @
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA + Y. ?7 f( t# i5 V5 q0 ?
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and * i9 l- r& R0 u; }3 U5 S
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
; {# v" q' A; r( i1 YEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 1 U$ g3 J- E- A

Responsibilities

, Z* P6 n7 ^; o& Q5 R# K) Q( X- x1 ?8 eReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and : Z* ^( z( Z$ U8 E7 K4 x8 X
execution of the YWCA Strategy * C! h4 R7 r: y7 P- C( Z
- K& U8 P9 u3 r$ J1 R2 C4 R1 s2 e* l
Specific responsibilities include:  
  j2 b1 G' a; G8 Y + I4 V+ E8 Z6 K1 m
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, \' q3 Y, o  j- C! cthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
# p% k4 U  M/ \" G/ Uthe Board of Directors;  6 d/ C  m, e9 l
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 8 U& C7 P- n* i8 }1 z7 k
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 X' x) R( u' X; R7 w; ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 1 X9 t  Z2 H" b2 K' f/ g1 I
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
" i( E4 `+ L9 ^* ~$ Y2 mobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ W4 r5 ^. i. S" A9 jthe board;  4 w' G# A: z7 z4 C0 K- [. B
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
( ]2 f% L5 v; F" u7 s" n•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
" ~1 _: B, a2 w, P! Uthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 2 ~- s- n6 p, O8 Q
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the . a. [$ _, C$ ~
changing needs of the organization and community; 5 E* A% v, f: _# h
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 9 Q+ J+ T& f' Y6 E9 `9 }. E
commitments; 2 a6 f9 G" G" N! W% N7 H: p
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ( v# t0 l$ A8 b9 v& B  ^2 ?2 d: Y
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
7 t3 I, c, ^# p5 n8 l! p2 T4 w$ wselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
, V( [& G& c$ n5 ~8 t, L•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& M' Q& w7 a3 }' V" i* x•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
/ |3 C9 E* i6 c) I- Deffectively and positively represent the association;
9 r! Z" z) q$ R9 l( m# ~% o8 ^4 X  r: D0 ^% V& b1 e$ {0 C8 p
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ! m+ S8 C+ J% h. F2 y9 M
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  & R' w. N! T0 l) v
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
) }0 N& W( |9 x1 Kperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 0 J( S2 q* g# ^  F
the forthcoming year;  
. V) U, ]3 E% \2 \' q1 ^4 X•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ' |& p" m. y7 m& D0 P
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
+ O# ]) f4 }) s8 w' ^/ s& u! Y/ M1 KYWCA Canada; and
! _6 `' o5 X. t, ^( y•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
) g+ N) _; L, y4 Y9 u( C5 b$ WForces.  7 U. z+ f, Q4 l5 D- O/ ^  F3 P

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 8 ~6 B6 D2 i( y3 j: T- n
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ; I& @. P: ]- m, k) {( |6 H
around decisions, plans and actions; 0 M1 R9 ~* N7 Q9 {
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; , O5 W7 w( G4 C# a- t( x5 F- ~
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
4 O1 ]6 B1 h/ V% n- Tand achievable with realistic timeframes; 1 ]  y, B- @5 o) o# e! }
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks - [! A% \. ~/ q* E& i4 K. O, [% X
simultaneously;
4 o& v. o  J& K" ^•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
" \: W8 \" h9 J) O* K; n4 w1 qrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 4 Z# U, A; @9 M0 K
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 1 X# L; M' P0 H" K6 {

& e% T, i$ X7 j! U+ Q/ t8 d Required Professional Designation / Certification 2 L! h: B7 t) d/ V: A; q
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 8 d, K3 x0 b" n* X
( b) a. U1 D( f, o3 L5 W
Required Experience . R, i8 x5 P0 B6 k. P% D7 E. e
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; % w: g4 j! ?0 m" ]
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
/ i8 {7 O$ F! r; oabilities; & i7 F# u  E0 U3 t4 B' q
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) ^) N( O7 u6 |/ c' N
Networking and Fundraising;
% F% r7 \" a3 d, ^1 i6 s0 p•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 3 Z3 j7 t2 g( d; {
and financial statements; and 4 C# h) w4 E" Q2 A9 U7 b+ e
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
: j: Z: R1 Q  g  L$ N+ o4 Ncentered perspective. 3 ~7 |* A; a( p9 W
