The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA # c4 `( k& @' _  {- z; k
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
$ q" R2 W; d+ g! Q, Y0 _4 `  q& }surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
# b( C# e$ ^7 H! q3 Wexecution of the YWCA Strategy
5 \& U! L& Z! Z, R' H
. i. n* F; ]( `3 O0 i7 lSpecific responsibilities include:  
* L& b* S' o6 C- `* u* a " L: f$ M# P0 N7 s( u
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ! j% W) R! t. h% i3 A6 N8 z
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by / J) p% a9 N- E* p2 U8 l
the Board of Directors;  ) x) M! X  e7 C6 ~) a$ ], O1 k
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
+ t- @$ e5 M5 y: m, gincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to % R+ O% I. o8 @) W9 y6 h
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
- @! h5 r6 l! O( k•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
$ i- z+ d; M  Nobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
5 \2 G7 G: d2 ]$ J4 uthe board;  3 v( `' l5 t5 ^4 a( v& M7 r  V; l
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
+ z2 a! ]4 U8 L# j* u3 Q2 E•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion / V; e- u: F' c7 o/ W
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
' c0 G6 a+ r& ^, @•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 3 F% l' @" G. `4 n
changing needs of the organization and community;
( l2 X4 v( a) Q•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
; F" c$ V) c' c0 Gcommitments;
5 k) B  a6 }# Z•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
2 m8 b. M0 V2 H7 a; L2 F•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective : G  p6 s7 s7 h( a0 v- J8 Y( C- d
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 m) j. _4 R5 D8 |. A. Q•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ' k0 i( q! u4 l/ v9 a
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
) o5 a' h4 U: c7 w) }  Neffectively and positively represent the association; * a9 p# J  M: C$ [! K
' J+ a: A0 s" o, L: L. `
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ) j: d. _+ ]& ?+ Z7 j+ J' I4 ^7 l
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  # W5 T. V* `5 Y+ R$ s
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
* t) Y9 }$ v- h  k3 n4 aperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
+ o8 D* T0 _+ P# R1 L% e2 N; mthe forthcoming year;  
& t( _9 `# U- G! {•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ' e- X* t9 S+ R0 {8 F# p5 Q0 P- J' o! C
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of . i- v* c" K. E' _
YWCA Canada; and
0 F! V+ Y$ ^/ m$ T- N, y' L•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task / ~5 I+ y" A" r' @0 g5 t0 u8 W

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; - H0 Z- S3 P% |
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable

•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
6 Q" O- P8 K8 o4 |rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; + ?( W' O9 R8 R# m! t% u
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
' G. |! g  O" F" W•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
% V8 g& |8 J' u0 m1 y0 s+ d0 c•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.   y' I6 D6 v1 _; }8 Y4 G; F

& b4 N- p( @) ]4 _0 g8 URequired Experience % i7 Q" s9 S/ k1 K
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ' p/ A, }, r% ^9 @: E
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation # u6 _' d! x8 ?* \/ c
abilities;
8 H& O5 H* U' c# K6 c2 ?1 v•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 A& r8 W: c3 \- q, Y8 |7 c
Networking and Fundraising;
0 B8 j; h% H. @7 y6 ~3 m8 C•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
" W2 u8 R0 q- E! A, jand financial statements; and
9 P- O( `! ?, O8 |# K3 A•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women : R5 y; ]- l; _- _8 f, v
