The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

/ w6 m; V% W8 F+ ethis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
; G% R; f, S. ?& X- x5 H: t$ \8 dEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
" J* N3 ]! I. c8 {/ Zsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
5 E6 j5 r: \6 N! T! s, ^ & m  @8 f% P7 J0 V* L4 g) h3 l
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ) W5 d& ?/ w) u; e' N, `
execution of the YWCA Strategy ! ~) ]+ U) ^5 j9 K- F

# D6 e3 Q- y$ e& rSpecific responsibilities include:  
% q/ M) u; k: H. ^
6 g. d3 i# E) Y3 v# \•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of + {, ^0 }- Z& }8 u
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
8 U& {5 H6 D* p# q3 Ythe Board of Directors;  
$ ]1 r. Y0 i1 l. V' f$ n•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 2 a/ {! E* @' ~5 R& n1 ]! e
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
" R2 R" l$ {2 y- [enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 2 N: r- u% m7 p% C" u
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
* v, H2 a4 \" A* ]6 A# pobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
  a! S8 S9 @; w5 ^" jthe board;  ' r; v9 c# I7 d1 _: ~
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
+ M; q2 |0 e. |" S+ W•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 6 r: I8 Q% H2 J- [+ F
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; " U+ v6 R- N0 o$ M9 [& H
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
4 c% e8 k! P) n! ^$ d; `  {' Kchanging needs of the organization and community; - M- Z, _. N2 K( I
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
- l. [' v6 R1 d/ s' U; M& _" K) f' scommitments;
" i8 t2 U- k! a. `! H•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
/ k8 ]: u+ p) U8 w2 z) u•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
3 y2 A! v. A& \% I2 w) g2 iselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
' R9 j: p: S3 j, V% G2 B' q$ ]•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
- g+ ]1 f2 ?& r( h•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to * F: b; u# H' I, v4 m2 G& O
effectively and positively represent the association;
# M/ i% @0 w5 n1 M$ _2 F- ^4 N
. t+ ]( u, m, [0 P8 }; }  D•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. R6 Q1 M% \5 Z4 S% L( Ythe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ' Z# ]4 h  z6 ]. E
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
! H8 F* n4 J- b# `. K5 s5 Uperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ u# o  J' D) H5 W! cthe forthcoming year;  0 q: }9 a2 c6 w7 d
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
% L! Z$ O$ W! N# apractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
: p: z; m# s9 hYWCA Canada; and 2 Y2 T2 K+ s3 g0 w
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
  Z0 `9 @8 C1 G6 D3 O6 eForces.

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 6 C$ Q- z  s8 X
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ! G) c/ n9 @! J3 R) X
around decisions, plans and actions;
  x, s% @/ S/ ~( A# ^2 w7 r•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; / L: k- X( y4 R9 r
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
' k% a1 p! k  Nand achievable with realistic timeframes;
2 s1 F+ Q9 y$ e' n' x•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! z, F: ?& _% b0 z) n2 E4 T
simultaneously;
$ S9 y$ s3 b4 L* _•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
& ?4 H! B5 H% q: V& nrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 5 J4 v1 e$ A/ c9 K  |
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
, u1 A# y4 s- ]•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
: p  c5 g/ |+ t$ b$ Y, C•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 4 h% z( _+ ], y$ f+ \( b, Z
& {3 d: q" o4 z4 e1 w% b
Required Experience , ?1 S% x" E) T6 n
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
* B- S: d/ B+ ?•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
8 a/ q4 j4 |) _2 {3 rabilities; " l& n1 [* U6 i$ y& D+ {- E) {7 j1 H, O
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, $ ]. f8 T0 D" _: [' p& D  V
Networking and Fundraising; 7 L3 H, Z, ^) ~" I* B
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ; b& R+ K/ h% D3 {
and financial statements; and
' G1 g; P* R# S, g1 C# l- {7 [•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women & z$ f9 d$ K3 K+ R
