The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
7 ~- {  I7 z1 m2 l3 f: @4 [thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead , y" R# k9 ]7 I+ l! Z+ V- Z
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
8 {# J$ a9 \/ {- U- ]1 c0 AEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and $ X0 v* p9 m/ D/ \4 a; {  N4 f0 O4 g
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
7 B5 u8 p7 M4 p% qEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

) M4 {! |, d' S4 q8 HReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
; t- N, v, I& R! P+ jexecution of the YWCA Strategy % L; w$ S% ], \# i; O& @, C
- X7 B; q0 d2 j' y  I8 W
Specific responsibilities include:  
. B' }% o1 N3 O' Q- B. \) j
6 ~# U/ F' {) i8 r, s) I•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ( N2 G! D) F0 R6 q+ `* t6 |
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
) a# [' v# u/ K- }3 T' Mthe Board of Directors;  1 j7 |& f  s* R0 E- [* q7 g+ ~/ r& ]
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
' N' m  V+ N6 C+ tincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
6 B) ?+ D2 N' Q; }: @( L$ nenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; # j2 r" G/ Y( \6 [% f- a
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
4 U% U# |$ T6 `9 m& C, vobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
1 T3 V) l% U& A. ythe board;  
8 d2 e/ A' i8 T8 Q: F: _•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
" o. A. Z* o; B' B; U; x) T•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ( Z9 s  E" k  c& O7 {5 N7 ~" i2 d8 S
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; $ `0 l' I5 E8 D: e: n* t3 G9 o
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 1 L4 N1 E: z' q8 P6 B4 w$ q3 R
changing needs of the organization and community; ; f8 q# x8 Q8 {' j! D& Z4 n
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
0 }! p- a$ j' E. q. zcommitments; 6 W4 l* k: i' d- k# w, x- h
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
2 X0 c5 G. y; P! S5 b•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
$ e1 S/ j0 j$ n( z+ P! u! G8 Aselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
+ X0 k  v" [) N5 p$ U•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 4 M. B. [) Z/ ~  |: a+ s2 g, L: P, ]
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
" ^: I7 k7 F7 keffectively and positively represent the association; " ^7 }# m) y; B

% l  g( b; h. P0 a  y•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
6 }5 e; H( t' ]) Nthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 L% F7 B# N  j. b4 O! e4 I•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal % i) e  p( _( [5 O) |6 N
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
. A7 z/ V6 C# X0 _8 p' j) x7 Z! qthe forthcoming year;  
6 G. y3 I4 T, e. h5 G•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 3 Z) t- }# X- L: [  L- k# k8 b# N
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
1 H4 r( m- e8 S2 C, k3 Q( ?- yYWCA Canada; and 5 T; h0 n$ U6 n
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ; I8 z; q" s7 N9 T/ _, L

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; # Z- A* r7 \4 d3 ~+ G6 a  G
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus / @% s* Y, K" C4 ]& Y( _
around decisions, plans and actions; % h3 m3 y5 e& \! F
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; . ~, C- V$ `6 ?1 g
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
/ z% M- w8 Q$ |) w% F6 I! b$ sand achievable with realistic timeframes; 0 H% ]* o3 B; Y0 a4 L+ }# N/ W
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 9 ^- J8 y+ E. k! x9 q/ ~( S/ j) m
simultaneously; 9 I  v. _6 `) j7 f" m
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 6 w8 r4 q3 R  w* r' D
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
( w2 o% V7 f3 ]4 o6 Q$ ]•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and * d- k% l/ F, a" M# X8 h" {3 R
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification   ]! U9 t, C  h8 I5 h! V7 p
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. : z" A: P1 G, y: Q0 G

  p/ [# N# K2 ?" N1 J. oRequired Experience
" _, y& Q- g& k& U  ^•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
/ H; d9 o: |- f# A' O* p1 j, y0 f•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
: ]9 ]2 e0 k3 k. V- Oabilities; ) g' _. X# o7 y4 X) T, |
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
- _1 Y8 [- B: S8 q4 u0 JNetworking and Fundraising;
( G) q+ h/ i+ [, M•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ! x0 q$ y+ ?: m+ e1 M2 H8 c. ]
and financial statements; and
- d2 S) f6 i; P  `( }•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' [" e5 E, x. _/ U7 \, }
