Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 7 U- d1 y0 g, l, V
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

. |$ _( ]) _5 a* G6 F# ]% aReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
( m, h' O: E. E. o" O" Bexecution of the YWCA Strategy
2 h* ?/ t" P$ o" F7 v( v   B3 n- T- h$ b# T% [9 C9 n6 I
Specific responsibilities include:  
- v, X7 x% h+ P& M- c  A . H; S  |2 `9 [. v
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
) v0 r! ?4 l# h/ z2 g/ pthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
$ r6 q& o4 S" ^4 sthe Board of Directors;  ' s3 K0 J$ O. N- k! A) P
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations + s- c5 ]& [6 @9 U2 O
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , Q7 r* {# ]5 E( D: W
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 8 T$ W. _$ |) f; h; p& m7 u
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and $ E. t9 u$ M( G3 I& x) ?6 E
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by : I0 _; E1 I) g7 ]$ j+ s+ v9 O
the board;  5 y' x8 J) l- c8 J5 |  ?
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# l/ p% W; u8 E+ D% B•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ' H2 L: ~$ |% r, A' K* R* {
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 b( Q5 L1 \9 C6 \. [1 Q7 o9 r•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
0 q* |! M  `( f8 k( j+ mchanging needs of the organization and community; 4 c& i* J% `# I; ^! L* J9 {
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
2 h  \1 u0 O% z7 ^: T: y2 Vcommitments;
/ W8 ?7 z. @4 o, J! `& }" ~3 X•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  * j- m& ^  w$ r
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
$ R8 f9 p' H) A3 U+ B, Tselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
4 _0 r+ ]4 s* I•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; " N. J1 S9 e, y: A) P8 y
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
+ |# x, b! N' O3 x0 d: V) F" V( ~/ qeffectively and positively represent the association;
+ P* E# x  S+ P  i
( ]9 [( u3 }; g. F& @9 F•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
! O: v" b3 e: c- Gthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
( G4 ~( X9 [- E- K; l•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ b, g+ E6 j; G) I6 kperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ K. s, ~. }5 sthe forthcoming year;  
( M+ V9 Y6 p5 c8 A•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
- O# @$ ~% k4 M* D. ?practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of - J+ [3 _5 v+ a) P$ ~- y8 `
YWCA Canada; and ; K( K: x$ e* W) q# K+ a8 `
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 3 \0 E5 n8 |1 X7 L
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
& t  s( W8 P9 f" `; G2 N; S" A' [•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
1 H; n5 D$ l5 Z  Z; B8 ^4 Dand achievable with realistic timeframes; 2 l* Y' C7 b7 z9 s
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks - D8 L5 p9 H; a/ u0 E/ [

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build # z0 S; M6 _, x& p: T( M
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

Required Professional Designation / Certification
' v* S. b. @' _6 {. f•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. . T2 e; S. y) M$ ?1 V6 u) l
# C& K8 m2 O4 L/ n
Required Experience + H0 H; H- {+ |2 Q5 v* g1 }+ @
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
) n0 c7 J& ?; r" J•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ; H6 L/ i5 g8 }
abilities;
( Q( P9 T/ c. h$ A, A•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
6 h7 D, ]9 v3 S" c# A7 tNetworking and Fundraising; 8 R- G" R& j& k9 j& s1 F# a) N" Z
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 3 m8 J+ j6 i- u: h- y! S! C5 ?
and financial statements; and " X5 e* L& U/ N: V, ^+ R
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
/ L2 X1 K9 B3 ]. }centered perspective. $ t" g) T- t! E2 p
