The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic * k, K" F2 Y% b' ]0 \
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead # Q. F$ d' h5 C2 M
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 2 Y! X9 e( v- i7 T& F; t
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ! Y" @9 r( ^4 Z2 P2 o" u* [
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
/ b2 @. a4 u6 A  g7 c: G5 qEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ( {4 f( R0 V6 ^" L4 ?

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
. S' v9 ?1 ?1 d. {% \. g  V; _8 Z) S( @execution of the YWCA Strategy ! c, w9 @, ^3 a% B

6 x+ U) ^3 ]" d7 u6 n0 P# d  ISpecific responsibilities include:  
9 ^: R  O% }( H2 y/ S9 u! U1 |
! a" U, s# Q+ q  T, C•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
$ I+ F* q4 ~5 n4 J, u9 Nthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
3 @! b1 l8 ], [: g7 l" jthe Board of Directors;  
( q% m5 L7 H( l- @. R•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
; y& p$ R, \; F# f, ]6 t$ kincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
& g+ s. }8 C; g0 H5 s2 `5 `enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
( w* @; `2 N( q& s•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and - F1 {' q$ q/ H0 A
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by " O) J2 }' K0 S' s2 \) A/ u7 E2 \
the board;  6 L" m: L. @8 q1 W6 i
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ; Z+ S# X2 y$ }  ?" K' o
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion : S- `3 ?" D* o0 j
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
+ \' U  b" G  g# O•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
; W- z! \8 S9 N& O( ]changing needs of the organization and community;
5 M) d' h9 z$ A- N. |•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 7 Y* v- y1 j0 M* |' \1 _. E
commitments; 3 P0 U' K, q( [" o( E
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
  J5 M) \) ^6 h& P/ O% B3 p•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ; S9 k/ Z: g$ l$ B6 a
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
  k' y3 l# ]: I6 ^; w% o0 \# P•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; , V. L) x# j3 o7 x/ d. F: L5 K
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
: S7 E' j$ f6 ]! q; L+ J+ N, H1 ceffectively and positively represent the association;
2 c8 b# V! B4 t! f4 w& O9 v; \* {% e5 u) ]/ o
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring " b. `' b! A. B9 Y
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
3 ]1 l  b0 x0 f4 H•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
- b, S$ e$ E* S5 tperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
# t, T& w( [3 g1 ~$ i7 Xthe forthcoming year;  7 u- S6 B. b9 \- U# {
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical % `5 Z/ q8 V9 B2 T% j
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! j& i9 X& \& h0 o6 b* o2 }
YWCA Canada; and
/ e7 x. l2 d! Q•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
2 z" j1 H) K. n9 e/ rForces.  1 C) G$ t; e% G
  
" z, x& V, x& @% MRequired Skills & Abilities + q9 e0 m) }3 m) B# S
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; / M2 N/ |8 o! e4 S! q
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 5 Y6 P) J: Z9 N+ ~
around decisions, plans and actions; " |" B, M/ G4 G* ]. @  h
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
+ M! E3 ^( q( ~! W) a( q: L/ r•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable % \9 S  V) Z/ a1 P% e
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 5 M6 g  X6 l. }$ G$ E
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks % j1 g6 P1 R, L0 p8 N" J1 a
simultaneously; ( P. A/ ]3 G' L$ U2 p8 Q
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 8 k9 i: ?/ s9 Z4 D3 i5 m+ d4 i
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ; T, z! ~" B( F) i- \/ {
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 1 `2 u% o" m( h
•  Superior negotiation skills. & U7 @9 @% ]. B/ S: L: X  r9 T$ x

- L* p# \: Z( S9 R Required Professional Designation / Certification
$ G9 }4 V# I3 X, A; }& @•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
- z, ^" \% @0 F* _. P
1 p& `  F' N6 }- aRequired Experience
7 p, C0 s9 e# u" _•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
. I1 @- E1 t2 {8 d•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
( F; ^2 x! r" {abilities;
* H" l; d' C& r9 Q' O•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   h' {# N4 V1 H( r. p4 K1 V2 X; T
Networking and Fundraising; 8 p0 X" ]2 H  S2 P* e8 ~, K, ^' d: ?
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
+ G& d  n- ]' l' V) V& i# \and financial statements; and
2 c- S- q# X7 G& I•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women / B$ k0 i3 C/ E" K- Y* A; F
