this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ) p7 M: o4 H2 q7 s2 w
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 9 t+ v/ S3 H  n. C( [) H: ?9 D8 x' q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA # K) b/ d, @  J- m) `
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ( G" Z5 B3 E+ s6 H

Responsibilities
9 G$ q0 ?% Q" F. E. v7 c7 i) j8 E ! V% j+ G0 G- I" h; n/ u. j8 S: ]" W
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
% e: ?$ A0 [4 U2 V& \execution of the YWCA Strategy
% Y% Y- \1 a- s) ^; N1 ?! _! g1 } 4 g+ J4 b* o) A. j6 |' e
Specific responsibilities include:  
% J1 J0 Z% |: \: V$ c+ h
& O/ Q" X% ]3 W& h! k! R. B•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
( ?- s; A$ T* ?: V. q' dthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ( w4 o2 _/ `5 H( _% s
the Board of Directors;  
. t' K) Z' P- x* K; A* [4 g•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
0 |' k1 e3 y* F. jincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
! _' E% U; ~4 G% B6 aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
3 t$ }# u. e" Z8 T& c; L6 G•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ' ]( B+ l. @# Q
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ {) Y" n2 S4 N/ i( Q6 V0 Pthe board;  9 b  o) ?% `- i9 y
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  , g% K' i' k& w6 `: F2 k
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
8 o) v2 ^, b2 v8 a- gthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
9 x1 ]+ p* d  ]) _* [& ?•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
: V' R( C- R& U1 a8 l4 T' gchanging needs of the organization and community; 7 t9 x9 M9 S) c$ ]* Y: v0 r
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue   n3 J+ |& V( Y' q2 j$ a4 ^
commitments;
) f1 w& {& s: b0 c/ d•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  3 {$ o/ I0 p" P
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 4 p7 E7 {7 ~2 }2 {4 m  b0 p
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  6 H# j% i1 O: u0 V5 D
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
/ y6 P) e7 ?- T; A# U1 O3 @•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ' |' E1 O  u8 ^, a' ~4 u; w9 V
effectively and positively represent the association; ) i, U& x8 @7 t
9 L9 F" F( L; Q4 D2 v- \( {4 [
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 p& ?% K; n$ ]9 Y6 C
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
- h3 Z1 n- J7 l" R- ^7 A•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
2 B6 Q' V, J; H9 R! S( aperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( G2 C1 ^3 @) A7 b& z( G/ S) b
the forthcoming year;  
' T3 D" x5 Z) `- z, C•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical : ]8 A! a: u$ {6 e: t
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
( ?3 f- }0 {  D$ L  DYWCA Canada; and
+ C- c' [' Z* ~0 |( i( W•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
* C2 u/ t. L5 W) ^Forces.

; Y3 h2 O* R3 p1 L$ M4 XRequired Skills & Abilities & @  A8 G  Y8 L
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
7 b. s8 C) u$ ]/ o8 L7 D6 l) W•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 4 p# G/ O* m: r8 R0 W' Q; S
around decisions, plans and actions; # J. J, }6 v  _# _$ @) m, N
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
% E7 H6 o0 J9 |2 w' V•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable # W( M/ M9 @6 H; y
and achievable with realistic timeframes; " X' m# X+ O  p' q1 \- U# f
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
! Q4 i; e5 e5 e) Q: `/ s$ Vsimultaneously;
+ a7 v- [7 I8 ^8 L, a5 t% G•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
% a+ Y6 F: i% H•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification ; v$ B) ]' D" K8 T5 p0 ?
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. , o3 p2 |. k' ?4 }) S8 s9 T

2 k* H0 h8 A3 P- H+ rRequired Experience
2 H, [3 @9 E4 \$ j•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 1 v( {- Y9 g8 A1 a. e  G0 \- `
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 7 ~6 I5 u+ g, _7 w9 W" ~
abilities;
& @1 T6 P: q5 l( z•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, " S4 C  l5 ^  g7 `( j1 b
Networking and Fundraising;
6 W; {2 x& [; [' @& _$ ^1 V•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting % F- [$ m2 C; Q6 E4 D
and financial statements; and ! [2 _+ a4 S7 Q( H( h% k9 o0 w1 s$ k
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women . s9 D2 [% U# b
centered perspective.
