The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic # F) s! |0 L' J% v* C8 c
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead # W/ u$ r( R1 Z# q- d& h
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA

+ U# R8 }5 ]+ R2 k1 A7 x" WReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ! B) J4 \! d' I  b' f9 n3 O
execution of the YWCA Strategy 3 [7 N* R8 Y9 \1 c- l
. \7 i$ E; l8 L) @& g; f$ j6 p
Specific responsibilities include:  9 D, f+ }0 ?, V! B, u7 W8 `0 _9 e

) [0 p- C+ e* l$ E# D% V1 b# z8 X•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of " F6 q6 N$ x+ {% w2 s7 \
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ! r3 U; D; k$ B' A: n0 R& q7 R% n
the Board of Directors;  3 N; G/ u/ a# Z* w; }  P" p- L$ n
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations + i" {) h$ c6 M' k3 a
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) B, J- ]- p3 _& [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 n% |! y3 w8 n4 v' X$ Y
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
$ X# R  q% ?, ^# uobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
- {, J. R. J& n* E( S, ythe board;  
1 e* K  c  D5 `6 L; k  I5 ^8 [•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  2 ~) {% N3 c( k) L+ P3 ]! W4 l
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 1 ?- I, _% \6 W2 N% x
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 z* e  x4 g$ y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the & j9 Y" E8 J8 N! U( }
changing needs of the organization and community;
9 T8 q6 H% n- {. T2 K+ r! p•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 7 i0 \& e+ H8 z( c- h
commitments;
  l* ^( a2 S" z$ ~' [, K9 p' f•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
+ ]) ?2 _8 Y) }6 _; q7 m•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
: \4 m  C1 Y4 H# d5 @: cselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ; \" q" P3 i+ L3 L
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
/ g+ S& o$ ^( |5 U# u•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 4 H. M( Y' \: s/ `* E- |% y
effectively and positively represent the association;
- B+ q! B* k  {/ I0 ?% Y2 j7 A# a. D  m
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" x- `1 s8 n/ c6 k, a* v! Cthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  + G% \  d( k& B* S5 T
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ; Z8 ?' G& U8 R2 Q' }
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
* F: x2 ~4 @3 t" x$ c. f2 Hthe forthcoming year;  
2 B  k, ~% V# y+ C( D) N•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
% O# y% M8 R1 X( Gpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 2 u$ v, f' V3 h# A: h
YWCA Canada; and
- [% d! i) C2 _- L$ A5 j: i. N•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
/ \# _* h- A3 I- |$ ^1 \5 |Forces.  - K3 Q; `9 Q6 {4 N  K' d- K: U
  # m+ n# j: G: H$ g# J4 C1 V/ g6 e
Required Skills & Abilities
& t2 j1 R: y1 n, {- [' _•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 2 o# p6 T* V; |
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus   x# ]* S$ x5 F+ I
around decisions, plans and actions; , h7 E9 V/ v8 u
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
5 A& L- j7 f' O" q9 F•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
4 m, ^9 R8 J; T& Z6 P3 @0 |8 Gand achievable with realistic timeframes; ! O6 m, o' w% v( V8 e( l. o* Z% x
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
7 M. _8 C; |) ^* [" g- l5 zsimultaneously;
7 h+ V( y6 y1 {2 o•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build " y+ i& @2 b/ P( R7 U9 Q% E
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
3 k; ^1 O$ T- _6 Z" y4 N. l•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification # x9 G2 x/ u) n. Z! w
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
  N( c; R( a1 X  v. U) M
7 T  k2 v2 h, N+ o3 E7 NRequired Experience
( Y" b3 C/ b4 {  r3 [" i•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 3 N; f: I) y! R3 d" H# K
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% V. \# m1 t8 ]) Iabilities;
" n/ g8 f4 p/ \' u( L9 D( ]•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
; c+ i$ ~" e5 ]# g* J8 \8 y. MNetworking and Fundraising;
6 q% C0 I. Y6 v) W. z* D3 n; E•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 9 M$ S7 a& z! r
and financial statements; and 5 ]7 n5 ]* X0 f0 Y7 I: p
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
+ I2 H, u' \0 P6 J8 Jcentered perspective. ' H2 X3 E4 i' D( Z% b/ h
