The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
. P6 }( Y" e7 }& gthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead & j; q0 z8 ]: V7 A* t0 w9 z/ J. J
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 3 k& X+ D3 F1 j3 C. Z
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
9 }9 P% x1 m0 E' g6 ]+ m% i' Osurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
# z/ M" W9 l1 L1 K/ O9 TEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
+ A& `, s  J8 S: P) V. K- F5 U
6 ]; J0 R' Q8 qReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
% o0 [* q5 T) K8 ]& d2 u) L8 ~execution of the YWCA Strategy $ p% U$ \: U9 z' ]1 F

6 u8 U6 l. G7 M5 r7 T* lSpecific responsibilities include:  
1 S9 T9 B; o! W2 z  q) C
% W+ q' p; t3 R& f- {•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
! M6 j) V% ~" m5 r. vthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
; {9 f. K3 n' I$ nthe Board of Directors;  
3 e0 k' |  s, D0 ]0 s•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 2 A6 t6 a/ J) U) R' D( g
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) v: k* Z/ K1 x4 j4 W' X  I( `+ |
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; * g% ^6 y, s4 u! P4 [  O! b
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 6 x* D5 s/ o. K7 L1 ?
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
& J+ S" Z- j/ M8 U& |$ ^the board;  
% k9 y, B" T7 [+ \9 X) s% ?•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
2 B+ _7 v$ M3 J0 Q0 ?•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 9 X) `  f& S! t2 R# f% u; @$ N. n
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; / t3 \* U. y6 y/ q( s
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the : u9 |' f* a5 B, |: G& W
changing needs of the organization and community; 9 X" D2 L4 {- a; _% X, w4 R, \
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
3 ^% J3 q2 U$ i( t2 H8 Lcommitments; ! J$ j0 V$ T+ D. _: ]
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  $ d) P  A- _( G0 a
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
, w) L9 _, o$ ~4 |7 f+ _$ `selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 o: W. N( {2 o' G•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
# U: x4 V8 q: q, a2 q•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
0 v9 M/ o$ ]0 _1 F3 r5 j, Geffectively and positively represent the association;
9 N% }+ z3 `- B7 U, y' `. P2 B
/ H" ]  E3 n4 i7 p& p; q2 x•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring   `7 z  m' |" q! ~
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ) G" n& I( e$ @6 G" D  K. O
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
( n& W" b  q7 cperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
6 K9 T+ E5 x0 P/ y4 |' Athe forthcoming year;  
& j5 Z8 X# U! K9 A# b2 }" \•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
, m; E; r$ C  z4 |! S# D% H( cpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. T* t4 L* }" m' @YWCA Canada; and
% Q! Y2 ^+ z+ [- B/ r! |* M•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
, ^  G* p% K0 d5 u" ?% MForces.  % @6 U, s5 D( q- t" m* N. \

Required Skills & Abilities - `. _+ D2 e. o1 d
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
4 o# [! @/ U" k& x8 H0 f•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
: A  H( u- B+ Q( `; {7 H9 Earound decisions, plans and actions;
' S+ l& k- z1 U3 ^# d•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
5 V5 _- z, Q2 t6 n* n* I  ^•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
& i: ]& T4 [! L, b& \: h0 e  Q% rand achievable with realistic timeframes; # E) y3 V8 ~3 p" j
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
" }3 t- w4 ]# E7 x+ w3 ^8 csimultaneously;
/ B- b% I5 P/ E6 L4 }0 T3 h•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
. a( j2 K* G8 |rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;   j5 u4 w' z% E8 q
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and + y) J; c+ ?- _5 ~0 Q. O
•  Superior negotiation skills. 1 R7 Q: \" N' @; \) j3 w& ?

! Y6 L' o* J  {/ c4 t# p Required Professional Designation / Certification 2 J3 m+ D- ^9 I: r' P3 f
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
  R9 g0 I* B2 K6 ? 3 M* p1 F* B  D7 M
Required Experience
( R4 {- S8 r  x7 k: t# T" A5 I•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ; c% r( _: {7 f
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
3 O/ t# s5 m7 P& m6 z" Eabilities;
8 W) ?, }9 o: Z& X, ?$ f•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
: e  k, e/ `; u' W$ j* g7 ~Networking and Fundraising; 6 w8 N9 L3 @9 W2 A! n! k
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting / W" r. V8 q4 n+ g! x
and financial statements; and 4 L3 u! o" E  D/ e2 S4 \
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 7 ]7 K  P1 S$ \; z
centered perspective.
