Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Responsibilities

4 ^3 C/ |4 j8 g6 ~: [+ \Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and : ^  j* w& g+ B0 [
execution of the YWCA Strategy
8 O: B9 H# J$ ]& {7 P * P" A" e6 }% ^3 Q! p0 q, N
Specific responsibilities include:  
: \* K1 ]$ p: }2 {+ o+ r
* x/ _0 b; ^- N: v( y( T•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
# U" R; v- N4 k; i3 t/ sthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ; S+ z% _7 j4 _6 D( K6 h
the Board of Directors;  1 W, Q* ?! X6 }+ q+ w' `. \+ v* ]+ k
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - @  S7 e( ?, J
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
& q( w$ r, ^6 a  ]enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; % h4 G2 u5 `% j, s& }  R
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
+ I9 x4 |+ S% _objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ; \6 H# `! N7 y, Q& J' {& v
the board;  . {4 B- \2 Q+ J9 g4 [- Y% x
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ; p9 Z0 z: J1 l3 _- g6 e0 m. W8 Q
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion $ H- o7 E" x" f7 V4 N
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; / o# X  P, D3 @; w
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( ?" [7 q$ Y9 Q: x! T1 [changing needs of the organization and community; ' V3 A. L& M4 e2 B" H: C1 R
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 0 D8 J$ Z; G; ^& z2 v
commitments; $ x  \, h* Q( E- T
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
5 u6 i4 Y) \0 B- D7 ?" K•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
8 D" j- {1 X9 i' `) Zselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  4 s9 A2 v- G+ f& M# }) }
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 6 a" y% Z' O. e9 F+ {
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ e: b" b$ ], @
effectively and positively represent the association;

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ! t& ~% [2 g  U" W* _. u
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 U2 t: f0 S# f; S" i+ M" r; i•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
: L: c/ L5 ?$ pperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
  `0 {7 C6 s0 F% f+ T/ ^1 Xthe forthcoming year;  
6 q' _9 X5 o& `5 _1 ~•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
5 s, d  P8 l6 K& Q7 ]! ]; vpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
2 o8 a, S1 H. [, BYWCA Canada; and + m0 k! I: _! }0 n- ^
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 4 V( M( D1 }# E- U: ]0 Q1 [! f

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

: e& \1 ^+ \2 k4 a; {•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
  m: I! i* D  v- P( n2 iand achievable with realistic timeframes; 9 [9 H8 q! Z! o3 z: ]8 N7 q* z
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks : g0 i; p, \5 ^# w$ b# R
simultaneously;
0 ~! ]* I  \" s- X9 j•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ; h/ k5 T5 D% p- E, Y. w
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 3 P& u! \/ l3 i* w/ n. T
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and $ c4 p( [9 M/ t
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification # ~, y% V3 w1 t
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
6 h- Q4 W; _: L3 a3 |2 E/ n3 X - S' g3 m' E2 }) m+ `8 Q
Required Experience 9 J% N" ^) ]9 u3 K  O
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; % s. u& S- V* G! m
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
/ d7 A0 [3 b( V' a& |' Z! y9 rabilities; + g$ X  S  m- H- W
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
5 c. e! C5 e! _$ ~3 WNetworking and Fundraising; * }# `4 H  v2 R2 U) r$ F( `; G! o
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting - t% H% o3 {( y
and financial statements; and 3 F* C% a3 [) M  C  `6 R
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 1 p* b1 \. ?9 r/ O
