The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic & \3 _; F* v  |8 f* j" o$ Z, _8 e
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead

Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

" N3 B  t9 M4 P5 |+ V! xReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
3 ^# X3 _$ @7 E+ eexecution of the YWCA Strategy
1 S* c8 ]# P' w
+ n% G& I* G9 c4 mSpecific responsibilities include:  & Y+ {7 X( [7 p" g4 [0 Z

) W1 q. V0 P5 s1 Q•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of / I6 L& [* L$ W5 s. ], d- V
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
9 w! n+ h+ E9 A  n5 i& [4 Q6 B4 athe Board of Directors;  
. H7 p1 O7 b6 c0 d2 [+ M•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
; p$ _/ `# T! y! q$ p) xincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
9 s$ b& I: E) w. o* @+ yenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; # |6 r0 ?% h8 W' V  Q( D# e5 Q) f* q
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
  q( l* L% Z2 tobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
2 m4 o& e2 W6 }, M0 m' Ethe board;  . t! n, p' j+ L+ E0 [6 ~! d6 O
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  9 ?  T. @" t7 l
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
/ d8 r0 @& |! P$ b; A: Kthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 Q% V  v7 R& s•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the + ?7 X5 Z( E' V& P% r
changing needs of the organization and community; $ d5 l* i* ~; o3 J6 B
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 9 Y) ~4 i0 C* u) f2 h0 G
commitments; 9 Y, n' V8 n( [; Q* O& w( \* D
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
" \! s, Y8 j/ N' F1 q( y•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
' z  q2 u* R' a& {; t0 `5 Oselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  3 i3 g' ]1 e8 W3 S. r8 ]* Q  X
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
) ?3 ~# j5 N* m& Q8 E3 v•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to " \/ J- B0 t# a# v" S& r
effectively and positively represent the association;
. D7 b( _7 K: E# M+ \& D# I
& o% d" {* G7 u- V$ Y" o/ j•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ' n1 l+ V2 S: h
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  8 `; f4 g8 G7 Q7 O+ e
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 2 M% `- ^4 T5 P
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED , Z/ M' l- q0 }; ^
the forthcoming year;  
! ~& a2 l* a- a: r" g•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
9 E+ r4 |; D( r% S: g; P, }% H& R; Opractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of # M$ l9 v( v1 [/ D- \$ w4 I/ B/ K$ v
YWCA Canada; and
4 p6 B8 E4 }4 J9 }6 U4 G•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 6 m; f! w! D4 l! o! \$ i" `# S
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
& l0 S% h# f; T2 M' M•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
# h* V. u# q' R3 S. {•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ) I  a& P1 L" B( q& R/ z
around decisions, plans and actions; 8 K* ~- N, P( i- X7 y0 Q1 @; K
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
1 \$ H" G: Z, _, v8 e•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
" y7 z3 {$ O. p( {and achievable with realistic timeframes; $ |' L8 w3 L1 c2 S7 ?) Q
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& w. r" |" L& V. ?# vsimultaneously; 7 ?% i9 A& l5 Y8 o% c$ V* K
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
/ Z! G9 l# J4 _2 v, A% trapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
- ?& n7 k% p! ?8 Y•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. - J" ^+ {6 P( @9 u0 A0 }

Required Experience
; N+ h& s9 M$ J4 V( t  d•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
6 I, J8 z* N$ j•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : Z# o2 P. S1 h! g- O
abilities;
- i) g* T# {8 y2 \•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, % \% d: L0 S  {; B& L
Networking and Fundraising;
: G5 i; k0 O# R* f•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ( I3 @; f! {  }" b; W: `
and financial statements; and 3 Y: w3 W3 Q" f% g  f3 z
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
  q, g+ }" c) T7 Ccentered perspective. 3 b' ?) E- ?0 _' v' ]7 P! U9 }8 j* g
