The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 4 {0 i5 \, |8 ^9 y. T; _2 c! ~
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead $ y% N- v9 m- y- R/ p8 P/ l
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
* ]+ @$ b7 w+ D! O- ?Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 2 w. K4 f) f$ V# w, i. `
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
- t8 w- B) J. f# O9 ]' i1 fEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities 2 E  J2 p3 _3 w4 w

% a2 l0 m: X- o0 o  gReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 3 h" S& Z" Z; h7 M1 ]
execution of the YWCA Strategy $ E! T2 v1 `% {* Q2 q; X1 }
4 n( P8 e  U7 h, H) Z6 f6 Z
Specific responsibilities include:  9 a2 h! T% F; v
* |( J5 k5 h1 z7 |/ l
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of # }0 G3 j* C6 M7 Q
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by . `* C# Y2 l0 ~2 c% p* |4 j
the Board of Directors;  9 l: \2 G0 C8 g4 a, U
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations . V4 i. |0 X7 C, A# A
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
, i) X" W% n- p  M' ~) d1 Cenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
3 k$ q' d$ n& ]; N& E3 z; y•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 3 F; ^1 {# ?  x: {/ ~3 p; }
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
6 S! j- X/ T8 w/ d3 U/ C2 U( Pthe board;  
! s' J% y3 I1 n' o% r8 L•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  / ]8 L7 Z  U$ ^. J
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
' G& z5 |9 W7 G4 R% t4 Nthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
3 J( Z7 N+ R: d. u2 i6 Q•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
4 W% C4 u8 Y2 F/ v! n: ^0 ochanging needs of the organization and community;
$ f% v+ Y3 {8 _  G$ Q8 S•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue : c9 d7 @/ ~, ^0 D* i- X
commitments;
" Z6 a2 Y5 L' Y0 f/ j6 V% b•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  % J3 j  w  a8 g3 ?# I
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 0 O; b  q: g0 e6 {( Y3 y
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  4 g: p2 h' @9 k3 ~8 K
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. V# q* ?( K+ o) M•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 2 J* h% i$ l* s( Y1 P# d% B
effectively and positively represent the association;
; h0 g  P. L& g0 y: n4 T
3 ~& ]4 _; v' }) m•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
& l9 p" l4 k5 c( C8 Uthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
6 q! ^, L2 G* |0 @" C& z•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
: c0 f9 S* B# }5 G( @performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( ?. A# y' a: E. k( a
the forthcoming year;  1 a: K  T7 U6 r$ y; c4 n6 x
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical . A5 K7 K) {: l3 K4 G
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 7 _* e7 Y9 }, W# k7 M
YWCA Canada; and
5 V% ^, N" `- U6 R! p& t•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task , I, J; o& C% H: h; `
Forces.  
% c' z7 U2 O1 A  ]# B$ `+ k" T  ! v. \! [5 ^7 N
Required Skills & Abilities 0 N# Z; k) @0 N  k8 G( Y- r- y- K
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; : s; s( d2 v5 t3 o* ]& w5 M
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
, ]' ~  i8 l& l7 ^  B/ o. [around decisions, plans and actions; * v& d9 d, n6 Y  y/ H# h( u6 f* z9 ~1 W
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ; K& h! I: B5 Z- ~# m
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
. H% M. r1 U2 C: B8 l1 tand achievable with realistic timeframes; & G2 H7 v+ f) S/ x1 H
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 3 [. M) o8 s( v! `5 |/ Z5 t8 e5 h
simultaneously;
5 f& }. G, t' _•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ! a, H8 [- |' Q- V( L6 C
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
) `+ v, {. I1 x5 J$ z2 a( f: {•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and $ |( b1 r8 R4 u: A5 b" g( V* w
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
3 e. o# p" G4 M6 g$ k4 _•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
' E9 a3 s0 p* Q, A7 s
2 t! L0 f  R  s/ R/ _! VRequired Experience
4 ^7 `+ Z; k  k•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
# V3 R( p6 i* A% m- Y1 w$ i•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 3 ^9 j  O) [/ D) y. A, P8 v& a
abilities;
  B8 Z  U$ z7 ]9 y/ s2 U0 R•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
- W# q" l' t9 \Networking and Fundraising; & n$ v; w, K; g) S: M
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting . {* a) e& i, v" H0 m; R+ B
and financial statements; and
' C# Q, a, Q6 c- P) ~•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
