The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
3 _+ a* t8 ?- y& D! n# c: @0 q- LEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
) W% u* N7 ~/ K  u+ N( ysurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and : A2 g0 H  I' H* f* e
execution of the YWCA Strategy
2 a7 x  L# P! a$ E) B, Y  m# \
, r7 }$ Z: _) @Specific responsibilities include:  . }( A7 L, B+ {# B' W$ B( a3 ]
$ u$ B: |. _' O; b* P& n. q9 X
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 4 Q- t0 b! W5 U- ?/ U
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
8 T: r( J; G  N9 wthe Board of Directors;  
/ Z4 ]! X6 G+ K•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
$ \+ f. B! r5 ]/ s- nincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
# t/ V5 @" X4 J1 W7 h9 c) `- Wenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
4 X# Q, w! I: S4 q8 l0 L•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 c" ~& D- [* }
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by " ^8 w; j6 i1 b8 ~8 J$ Q; v- d
the board;  
) p" g& D; ?5 Y5 x0 ?•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ; H6 ]# F! g: m# ~9 j; W
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
3 T; ^1 r' s$ v5 i& h2 cthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
3 n/ O$ `2 }$ `•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / b2 Z+ Z; e6 h, l  {! w) N  u. B
changing needs of the organization and community;
0 ~$ b; G/ f  A' ^; t) V4 [+ k: G& ?•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 6 K, O  I/ v3 Q/ K/ {3 E
commitments;
* N9 v+ M0 v. c9 p: G( _% i/ i•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  7 o' S  F3 D  @7 B3 ?: m# R  I
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective $ _* T! n% K5 l+ h$ @7 o
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  : z& [, z( \( ]4 k$ N# }1 y; u
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
5 A8 C8 m% g6 n" m& L. c; y) D•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
; M0 z- h: A, `' q; G/ \effectively and positively represent the association; 6 d* Y- V+ Q$ L

6 h6 K) v2 F9 V: R•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
% r; u8 w. e7 f; y) ~8 K- q2 G- i0 xthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
2 P/ m& F: U" P: V•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 x; B6 Z6 s  A! mperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
# [) ?# |/ M8 r. K$ t1 c4 |2 Ythe forthcoming year;  * q8 i. ?/ |2 r  w9 {
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
5 w" t! W0 d  |0 |% ]practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ( g% F3 _# V) F) A
YWCA Canada; and
7 F; A* Q1 J1 `- _•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
. {( m7 v. r/ Q# I) EForces.    F( t9 d$ ]; B& U
  
% A& |, A5 R6 g" ], s8 LRequired Skills & Abilities : ?# D# _$ z% m: Z. |7 z7 ?
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 1 k0 g0 d2 C4 J' F; D1 W- I3 F
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus $ w: I( O  p5 W* w+ \$ w1 `
around decisions, plans and actions; * C' t: _6 ?4 \8 F
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
0 g8 Q5 `1 z8 i: J+ @•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 2 C3 q( l8 Q3 m! K- {4 S2 K
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
1 g; E2 I" Q& X7 E" ?  D2 e•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks : N0 e  ~( o* d4 p3 E, I
simultaneously;
5 m3 A; s! @( t# y$ `; N•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
2 r0 ?1 J0 X# e4 xrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 8 ?+ i. A  n: u: ^' V% \& V
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
' E+ p' b4 V2 l6 M•  Superior negotiation skills.

! O/ J! h' D7 I% ~  B•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ! y: B: h: A  }; p7 |* l( o
+ M  B9 z: f7 W$ \
Required Experience
- z- L/ K4 T% A( Q0 R•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; $ r+ D1 e0 J! f- J
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
8 R9 r8 |  i) F2 \abilities;
& `$ U9 D2 U6 H* L•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 8 ], ^9 Q5 Z! D) X4 }
Networking and Fundraising;
8 ]- p* ]& \# [# E1 L. O+ ?0 v( z•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
; n1 _# D( p& y! ^and financial statements; and
) n' i- }" T1 @' U•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
% e6 r, I0 I) {centered perspective.
