The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
# G0 C5 u7 {; Zthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
6 W% s1 E9 d2 P1 k' c4 B, |, z3 T" nthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 9 O# }$ g) r# n+ ?8 |! ]! ^0 v
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 5 Z# j- B" I; H3 K* X
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ; z7 c& }' T( H8 p3 ~$ m
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 7 E1 L8 B6 e( {& w
community the agency serves.

the Association remains relevant to those we serve and is searching for an equally passionate,

Responsibilities
8 r; t! o' t! V- d; N( ] + r+ c, {3 ~+ a2 B4 ^& ]
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
9 r/ p, [* W: N4 Z( lexecution of the YWCA Strategy # Q( U. o) ]" ~$ C& v7 o
+ X2 P0 t$ }. v% U- D; ^
Specific responsibilities include:  $ r6 g2 D4 o9 W* i
- |8 I0 O* J/ T
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
+ K6 S+ p) |5 Y! l% i. u; Lthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by : X8 O0 {& z9 n4 ?
the Board of Directors;  
* ^: S" E+ X5 `* F% I# }* ]•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - N& C( {% o8 V: `9 _9 ~5 {4 J# I
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) h2 t3 y# [& K: d0 l+ u
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ( M$ r' e* m  f9 X! C1 u7 |2 R
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
3 F* T' H8 W+ b8 ^+ z4 n, Sobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 0 T2 a4 u+ U# a* Z% I. _
the board;  $ R/ A4 p& I( |+ {* k, L5 t) v
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ; ]  c& P/ H9 B: [
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 2 D0 w+ l" C3 s5 l* B
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; $ Q6 [8 _) a' `+ ^
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
+ [8 ~5 O& Y  J: o( O* b3 achanging needs of the organization and community;
% e9 [6 {2 n. ?, E( H, Y) Y! S•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 0 F2 Y+ |- L/ V0 E% y
commitments; , r" t2 H! ^# C0 P* L; D% ~, {
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
, O: h& J5 y8 o( S•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
3 U. F$ O4 W- F0 [; ^) o0 xselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
3 h7 D' R3 f5 S/ E& {5 i& t- r•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. C5 [' N$ q4 O4 u+ r7 S•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 5 b8 |2 g( b2 F5 E/ P' n- A! h
effectively and positively represent the association;
. V5 X% `8 c2 y# ]7 U1 W2 Y1 u& Y
; b) \: W3 K1 l1 ], [$ v# _5 L•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
3 C+ G0 s) W1 i+ u2 A/ e2 k6 Ythe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  1 |( \/ G! \$ E$ Y& q- p
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal   \. k) ]0 b3 N: D/ R0 C
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 6 l' z8 r6 r4 \, P5 w3 r- |
the forthcoming year;  7 |0 e% g) q" n# A! ~
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ; a+ n, q# f3 Y. w
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 8 i8 M& M5 @/ I3 X
YWCA Canada; and
  Q5 d8 {' M" A3 P. x3 ^# {•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task % @/ h) d8 ]2 M) [) x

: H: n9 O6 B1 |$ I•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 1 A. [9 f9 f) i: g. ^
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus : @( c1 k4 e! e2 v) A  I+ h- K1 b2 Z9 Y
around decisions, plans and actions; # [+ H" `( A# f: E5 _! a' f
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
# V2 \  ?$ \5 h$ X5 J- Y•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable " A  p: k  u% e4 G, n; b" [
and achievable with realistic timeframes; / l/ U& g6 p1 D' Y, j/ z6 `
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 6 v$ T8 m; D( y" ]5 u
simultaneously;

+ e& [$ r4 v2 a$ m0 t# I: L  e Required Professional Designation / Certification ( u" z$ `/ z6 m  X9 R* S( H6 u: i
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 5 j  t% g4 |9 s0 @

$ k$ z7 v3 J+ x% ZRequired Experience ' i! A! n+ C, [0 O/ T
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
; J# A6 Y& b! X- `•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation , {% I& F- Q0 c7 X/ m
abilities;
8 P/ [! |  W; e! L4 u•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + N  J: B3 C. b+ E8 @
Networking and Fundraising; 7 C! c- m! X4 a
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting " i' G1 U2 }% F+ E& o
and financial statements; and
" [& U8 n- q7 Y9 |6 U1 v•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 7 m5 t0 f2 p8 Y$ R
centered perspective.
