The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 8 g& J; u1 S8 E9 q' C
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 5 v8 Q+ Q& l4 Y' A9 X  w% D
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
( u" t0 G- @5 D( s5 m4 e' A6 MEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
5 o/ S2 ^- `- ?7 i5 N1 h4 gsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ) q+ f. q: ?3 u+ ^, f
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the $ Z: j$ W: X5 F: \; E

Responsibilities   K$ ~# {; l6 H8 H: N- ?: Z6 ~

/ s  ?. O; V+ ~8 ]. {Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 7 r/ W' G* F  F1 w" |& v
execution of the YWCA Strategy # D: [2 ~  C. z3 j

$ d4 c3 X1 R& r' b/ tSpecific responsibilities include:  # Q6 \  b& A/ {( |+ j9 M$ Y& h& s

' K& P* o1 ?  p, i- \3 C•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of * d/ C1 N; Y; ^+ u
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
0 a& ^1 @. n4 K7 @the Board of Directors;    G; X' N) l. M
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 C, e+ m& g: y6 U* v
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
8 @; U7 Q/ S6 Q1 h+ b6 E0 E5 jenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 2 d3 h2 A9 z" ]4 u* T0 Q
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
1 g. u* A" e! `% oobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by % D7 B* v3 x, n3 Q6 J
the board;  
& A+ F$ ?* H% s2 D•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
" i- R1 J. b6 n0 \2 y0 ?7 D4 j•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 8 D# V/ w' J* j: K. d3 N
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
0 W5 a5 X9 @/ Z" X•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ) l9 ^: ~/ G" S2 o% n( T
changing needs of the organization and community; ' L0 T9 Y1 s5 d! f+ k
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
9 u5 W, N  Y- a4 b4 G6 n: [+ Gcommitments;
) h6 V7 N# x* x. b•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
0 y' Q! ?6 f3 N/ Z+ ^•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) H+ y1 F1 K6 F" Kselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ( P, K  M) e6 C" F* Y/ K" \
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. Q1 J' Y: |8 G2 w•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
" I7 ^- h6 ?9 A3 k# zeffectively and positively represent the association; 2 A/ w0 v/ ?% c, e  A" m

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 3 m0 H- \  ^* f' ^# `
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
3 T4 ^2 Y* H7 l. z& U9 |7 ]( N•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
& m( M" C9 Q) u5 f# Zperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
  h  s7 H' N4 T' P2 G$ N, w( gthe forthcoming year;  
4 }% q* M; q3 O6 y- C8 W•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical   V% K$ K+ s: U* |- L  Q  `
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
3 k, y9 u5 e6 U+ PYWCA Canada; and # o- `1 s# T( m+ F% J! E/ J
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ! D) Y& [& h  \

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
) Y* R' z) j; `+ d•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 1 A9 @# c3 H, s7 [/ U
around decisions, plans and actions;
1 `/ D7 S2 m: [& f) ?•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
, {. T8 |; D; `" b/ `) P•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
9 J: ~/ }" v# P6 ]/ p3 ?and achievable with realistic timeframes;
6 O- V7 B" w( E5 a  @•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks   R# r: r5 O( o9 _; ]' |% \

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
, _: U' h8 n8 m5 vrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 6 s- J+ b7 f: I' a# F4 D7 ^. u
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
* h. ^- w; F' t  b•  Superior negotiation skills.

- S6 F' f4 {8 m4 N8 S Required Professional Designation / Certification
% Q1 _8 K5 b( h, z5 _•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

Required Experience 5 U  U+ L* R; R: O; [
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
5 T, F9 N+ K4 ]•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation , G! Q% k0 E8 j* Z6 ?! H
abilities;
3 n' {) M6 l5 {. g# E•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, , {, W9 d" G3 L, G: V( _5 g) \
Networking and Fundraising;
- H4 f1 \( w9 X% i1 D: \( O  @•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
2 J$ L0 S! `+ m2 [" X" Y) `3 Zand financial statements; and ) i, B$ i/ ^! r3 ~# F; L
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
