Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 6 ^2 ^. \4 M2 D3 ^# Q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ( n1 ?% Y# C2 r
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the : x3 j% L( {4 e

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and , y8 `$ y  Y: N0 h; x( {+ H6 a& X
execution of the YWCA Strategy 1 v5 L- k+ \$ V# O

8 `2 ?, p, q; y# T# |9 N4 A8 n0 VSpecific responsibilities include:  . ^3 B) f  q6 ~. @

* G. J1 u/ u8 K•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of & L/ B) \& A# [; }1 W
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ; F2 F# \! K4 {$ q3 i
the Board of Directors;  8 [5 y. [; ~+ q2 j0 K3 S2 g
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
" g1 f2 C8 Y, o; T" Bincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
8 K% P+ r4 c* T0 d4 r) E; menable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
8 M6 @0 ?0 d) `9 E" I- r•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and   b( `$ K. I8 J
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
9 x9 Q& x1 I8 C9 Fthe board;  , R5 j$ @8 V0 C( O' X2 n  F
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  5 A% z' ?0 v1 y  }! n. m1 M
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
1 j3 F) O. x( k9 f, K. Q1 jthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
* K7 p5 h8 v$ N! S•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ! ~" Z6 I* t/ ?8 u' {1 g. A
changing needs of the organization and community;
# |# m( h+ F0 K, r) B$ L•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
6 H9 I* E4 h  }5 E9 U+ S2 Icommitments; * q1 s) q1 A4 f6 Q* r+ z5 h1 w
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
/ {2 K5 V. s1 \7 e•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective " ?9 D/ b4 V6 O4 C6 E- x( {# j
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
# w! Z1 S) P9 I1 X* {& u0 F•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
% E" m. E  u( |& q0 R, n•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 0 V4 g. i, P$ E4 }' ~+ h
effectively and positively represent the association; " F- z4 w* b; y- q' T
) @' v# X; r2 J
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 1 \* [' }" _6 _9 M' A  l6 V) t/ D4 E
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  / }% o+ }8 f5 f3 r
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
( F# c- i! [" A" n! vperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ' K* I3 X. k9 B! }
the forthcoming year;  . @7 S& e( G; u3 ^, V( L
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 9 \6 W$ [  e4 N1 A
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. i3 z. p# x% w6 H+ y" oYWCA Canada; and
, j3 o- u' y$ v; Q+ }•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
2 b$ g! S, Y/ e/ S6 I- PForces.  
& T" i0 a* s- o! I* J9 `$ x4 o9 k  & |- O. j% u. k- ~5 a
Required Skills & Abilities
% C: l6 L3 A3 y8 w& Y8 y& o4 @•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
. S7 s* S. l+ M•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus . W8 S2 `8 }# q0 W7 @8 h
around decisions, plans and actions;
7 Y1 o+ I5 a8 S. q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
6 E" x) i( u1 j! x; G; u, ~•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 2 _3 f: R" {2 `) x4 C0 A3 ]
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 1 u+ l: M2 e& t) l" r# ^
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 0 f# g( w5 Q7 t
simultaneously;
' F+ N; c! v; b; y( h, R* e•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 j  ^. J  e0 P& o3 _
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
3 Y. `0 F: R3 ?& |•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
  s+ @5 y- t% m•  Superior negotiation skills. + E3 V2 n# g- S1 R9 d1 e. B8 V

0 h& O5 H. r# Y% M+ e/ K3 r Required Professional Designation / Certification
9 G! }( k: b. e8 k9 J& [; K. R•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
7 U* d0 x, S" f$ r- A7 V 1 z% U3 ~; z' q& }+ {
Required Experience   [3 R. W7 X) P5 M2 Q0 ?3 {! N& x  O/ D
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ( ?1 h) F9 I  F
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
' ]% V# c0 [% w2 D. uabilities;
8 d3 k1 |. ]7 I) Y( ~- K•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
0 h: n* j* S( p( ~+ v, {5 O. UNetworking and Fundraising;
3 A7 L9 {; _2 _7 ~•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
5 w5 v' i5 j: nand financial statements; and
' u; B9 o1 t  Q+ F' c6 l•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
. c! |9 y6 k! {4 t0 t9 ecentered perspective. : Q$ {4 u/ K% u. k1 ^$ v9 D! U9 f2 c
