The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
! R( d" q. D# l8 l" sthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
/ \7 J3 i& ^" L, g  g5 Mthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 3 b% [9 ~) i# Q& l: n0 {. G/ T
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Responsibilities

. ~* K5 t: t7 RReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
7 T1 F" x, l# Q4 Q5 Y. kexecution of the YWCA Strategy
; u) M* J1 y0 a1 P2 J; t" H0 m
: g, F: O' d4 r* [Specific responsibilities include:  / Y! o# T2 @' {1 ~5 A- J

: N/ Y5 |5 g" Z3 s/ o) t# B# Q•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, H' z" }8 M, u+ p, ?the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
" q6 o7 V5 J9 D: s+ @2 \% q8 Othe Board of Directors;  - u1 R, O0 Q* Y5 w
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations   u* w9 T7 W6 v" S
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to - n1 L3 b' K% `# P5 {
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
2 C, h! a* N: O$ }4 E•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 3 f; H% f8 O) }9 ]- t7 ~
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
7 O6 F  P5 f6 x3 B4 Ythe board;  
! W! [% E7 E3 }: X•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  5 W5 G! o/ k4 ?4 E' G9 t+ U
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
9 z/ M2 `' m$ J5 c' o2 ithe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; " R* M4 C+ \" M" `0 S; l0 F
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the % a: C3 P7 C+ Z% L: c/ T& Y. Q. L
changing needs of the organization and community; 3 H1 d/ q4 e6 z1 T2 d: Z: r" F
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
4 H" E2 j* U7 e0 D4 @commitments;
1 O% y3 Y2 L$ U& F•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  + |6 U' h# u+ i* m$ M6 [. B7 g
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 3 U  E! n9 @3 ~. X: j" J
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
* F" K6 z7 b& `8 X0 W( x7 U5 t  D•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 9 [5 c# L4 K9 z2 a: i) U* F
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 2 j: m/ C  M$ K
effectively and positively represent the association; & A/ A2 k" _9 u; p' l# S

9 c5 C) m9 R( |% |2 n7 g/ j•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- _$ S8 Y6 D. N$ v7 I: S' d/ m$ b# kthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  8 R! _) x/ B2 l# z4 h& D+ }
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
( x, O+ B* l) Pperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED : }- y, |) t# p$ G8 e
the forthcoming year;  
2 Q  X) P9 r, }6 ]" Y  C. Z( v•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical % P' N/ b  n/ P# n. o0 W( a0 S
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 7 b& Q3 @- k% ?
YWCA Canada; and : s+ o% }; |' k1 ~' z# i0 u
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 6 N: a( n1 J5 F* ~4 P6 ~

Required Skills & Abilities
, t2 P7 k& L; U. L; r. r•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
( [# Z. J$ G) F% S  b•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ( G# p) M0 |4 g% j+ j
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
, H$ O4 P* F4 x. U6 c% R•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 3 h% y5 H* P- t; k7 }
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

- ~) x: K* {  {* H Required Professional Designation / Certification , m9 G9 o- R( D4 j; w+ ?. m" S. X
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. * J% K/ {7 K& R  p
7 P6 w& D1 T5 S( h, _: x0 i
Required Experience & g! t# D3 V) ^4 I2 A9 h' ]9 `
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 2 U/ P9 j. _- f4 g
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 3 z! c- m& q; U; c5 |# Z/ g5 F
abilities;
; c3 F0 U9 J' Y7 [% d•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 b- a( l3 Q' {4 W
Networking and Fundraising;
. n$ G! j- |$ W# C4 D, D' B•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 5 N, B; J5 L. p$ k  F
and financial statements; and
4 b1 L/ }0 e* n; ]•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
9 y; m* u6 `. N5 N9 ccentered perspective. 9 U! j' a1 S. J2 |
