this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
; C  p6 P3 q3 s' y, v! REdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ( Y& Y: t/ G7 d3 z8 B& N" ^5 ~4 K- |
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and $ [9 t# m8 @% L$ F6 V! r9 Q! v
execution of the YWCA Strategy + H$ t  R8 ^9 B& _+ b% ~, W1 z
( j6 k% W2 H* d, f
Specific responsibilities include:  1 Z1 d5 H4 ~$ A& ?8 X

5 B$ d6 \$ u% {3 i! V•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
& f0 c( G" f' K; W# {# z! n0 ?+ _the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by & T) D- B: T5 r/ G( Y
the Board of Directors;  
: M/ q6 N$ J' k" \  B3 O6 o4 ]5 `/ ]•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ! M: U6 Q4 M; f& }7 c
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 1 |; A2 H1 W1 N: X. l
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
* D  J; p% w0 j6 E; S! n•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
2 G2 ~6 M! I: Z2 x* s9 k; eobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
1 [% `3 X& C. R( w( I2 T5 sthe board;  
# s6 }! ^/ U, D. q7 b) g/ X•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  * D/ U% B4 a! h, ?
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 9 @. Q% ~4 H$ e- z
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
& ?) I" A3 i7 t$ J) f•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the # [8 Q. v; B7 S  l" S
changing needs of the organization and community;
- m- Q% W+ `2 r2 p. u& u•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
; @* i  n( k4 B: b  B% I  acommitments;
$ O5 n( s2 j9 k6 y6 q3 a•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
( h" b6 U9 u/ I4 f1 Y•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective * i" |. P$ y5 z) b
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ( [7 S5 I" ]( Y. W& y) Z
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 2 ~( y$ \1 Y1 s* s3 f( ]
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
, \5 M; r- D2 I' n9 q' u& [/ M7 Xeffectively and positively represent the association;
; |& r3 ~4 B$ W7 ?/ V" T& r6 S2 q5 |- w/ {2 d) ~! i& k
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring . Q: ?& [9 E+ _! I5 u. t
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  $ r" M6 M( P) D; m7 O2 U
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ z3 |/ @5 q) ]( T9 h% _performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ b  g5 q2 k7 f& A+ P) |; \. ^the forthcoming year;  
: E  o  P" {6 R- W  X* ~! o+ u•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 4 L+ Q7 h+ y$ e& R. r
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
+ e. ]! Y7 o8 T! O$ @: MYWCA Canada; and
/ c5 O# C9 r! u. [) s•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
( B' q- ]* q1 \  iForces.  6 e4 S, j& s+ p( C* F
  
' y% v3 e# O7 T7 FRequired Skills & Abilities
+ ]4 D' `. y) z* _5 Z/ Y•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
% Y4 k% p: Y: i8 b- X& ~•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus , W/ y8 X$ T3 Y4 U' g& W
around decisions, plans and actions;
2 n% e  j7 _, {1 B9 {9 R- f•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
( a5 t' z& m8 j6 H•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
# p& w$ \. p- L! E+ B! Kand achievable with realistic timeframes;
: w# I3 r  D3 c+ E6 |/ G% l•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks + u5 j1 [' E% G9 @  y8 l- v
simultaneously;
1 K) X, h1 M" Y% M/ N•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build & \! d( C8 G& b* i6 S8 {; Y" y
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; , @9 K) C! \" s/ v9 g1 t4 A. V, g
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
0 U$ j1 ?8 O2 g; j: K" a•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification 3 N, ^! K7 ?1 _$ D. \
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
! \5 R( }* ?, [. N' p1 D : @9 n$ U- f( B; J
Required Experience 1 O2 d5 N0 n5 k% h
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ; @/ l7 A- Y) _+ x$ Z3 v6 |
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
- v6 l8 p/ [* m7 }abilities;
3 Y' f$ e2 {5 J3 ?$ F/ z; m•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, / V5 n/ N% J8 ]9 P
Networking and Fundraising; " A; l1 ?: f# }/ e) X+ a: S5 c- J$ T
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting + j/ W! h& e, [& p" A: j, _- ^/ k
and financial statements; and , n! B0 A+ e! _
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
, A- |& H9 u% {centered perspective. : ~( V/ t4 K- u* m0 t0 d5 D
