this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
5 E9 j: a. }  y+ ?. }Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
8 e0 o2 q% m# }3 p$ ^8 U" J! Osurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
% |4 [  F  k" o6 B# A' E2 Z& S1 R
: R, x6 p4 Q8 ~2 @  wReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
( X* w& q" U0 f. Y- Mexecution of the YWCA Strategy # D! z6 K; Y! t# X6 o
. g1 A1 e1 ]. o, o. @" _8 j5 ]
Specific responsibilities include:  . ~7 s6 @) k: H# E5 x! l
8 O' _2 J" F7 `5 _+ Y; k' j
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of # L/ R- y. a& x; D: i' {3 k0 _& Y+ O
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
' \4 e8 s6 n0 \0 D( J& D9 pthe Board of Directors;  
! m2 R! T6 U9 ]& c0 H•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
1 Y# f% z) }& D2 ]0 h( `* @including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to / t: y  Q# Q* f3 P5 B3 B
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
7 J7 P" l6 ?+ S•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and . u, B& \) X! U7 s- G
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by * v2 u" D* B+ T1 F4 S
the board;  8 s$ X8 Y/ O* m" |) V) n
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
5 l& {7 Z% \' h; V: u& n* ^' @•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
7 V7 E, D& p# Lthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
3 N, p7 y# ?" l7 G9 W•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
6 K9 i) S8 C; }% i, m+ R7 M5 w' |/ Ichanging needs of the organization and community; + Z- e& ?( m- u. K9 y9 ?
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue . M; I/ \7 [9 \6 |. d
commitments;
3 M# X& m! ~* U•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
7 O; q2 H7 M3 X•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; L: Y+ r# x3 fselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  / j% C* O" B/ h$ \! s1 ?) `
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
# A9 e9 c( j1 g. R8 a* M) ?# ?•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
; g) O+ M, W& X4 d: |effectively and positively represent the association; - _; f* u) |* \+ l: K$ X# [
! k' b* z9 B7 _. w; K3 e8 z  X
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring + G" R/ \6 x+ j1 A( C
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  0 ?. z3 n$ a2 o
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 0 y6 \& {9 d$ K2 _1 a# a
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 3 t5 g0 a! S/ j! p
the forthcoming year;  9 c; m7 Q4 E* Y
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
" \, y7 V4 B2 i$ Tpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
) [4 J9 @3 I9 `! @YWCA Canada; and
# ~+ I* F9 c7 n4 n* T•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 1 n1 p. C* B! Z
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
! O& T2 O3 d# z" `6 G4 B% m•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
) ~5 L" v9 E- ^) E•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 5 p. h+ X+ z  @: Z- {9 s
around decisions, plans and actions; / \9 w+ }' R; Q' f
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; , e- v! A4 H/ y
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
1 O, w( e9 G4 u% T0 X+ Z/ j0 Wand achievable with realistic timeframes;
' m) R; w* Y: O- G8 ]. h1 b& h6 `•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
' {5 ^3 A: }  psimultaneously;
6 _$ b. Q/ y! i4 u; e: Z" h•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 4 G2 x. P' T1 M( ?& c- U5 }" d( k
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
8 y6 L& d  }5 V* F1 B5 w5 K•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 5 O- e# @  h9 Z( y, d; V, f! f
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification ' n* x" ~# o+ `, Y% t. _/ t
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
8 `* v9 {& F) w5 u2 V
- `5 r; P! ?8 b! @Required Experience
. Z; R* D. H  T9 y  c- Z•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 4 E, n& m2 M2 j6 V* I- |8 X) q
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 7 m* ^' j+ q/ Z( j
abilities;
/ n% {. `9 W5 f/ H9 G3 b1 x1 z•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, : B& z) S, \  g+ A- K" D  U
Networking and Fundraising; 4 h0 v* E4 U, k7 V  A3 \# D6 H
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
  C+ x( A4 P  f  k9 L9 r/ Fand financial statements; and
! [! y  a( d" `. I; r( H3 a1 q, m2 j•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 8 d" b( F+ K" \' j1 u1 \5 g
centered perspective.
