The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
# ]% a0 Z5 j% K3 Ethinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
) j( g) w; a5 Ythis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
6 D8 R& z8 u: i' w0 X9 MEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and / z5 K% U# l9 y! B1 q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA + d" n7 `  }1 y! y2 e9 a
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the . i6 d6 {5 f/ c

Responsibilities 4 ^% {1 a) X2 c% Y# M

. ]' N$ s' k! X6 m, ^' z; u6 M; i+ rReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
4 h4 L" G% N% D. oexecution of the YWCA Strategy & L' g* Z& v5 s2 e
$ f3 n5 F# s" U( p; u
Specific responsibilities include:  3 ]& r- P9 y$ t( X) o! C2 o
2 K/ C0 {7 A, o6 p
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 9 O4 z- ]( l  U  A* B: @
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
0 f. [: ?. T& x8 i3 Pthe Board of Directors;  
0 ]$ z. S4 s8 t: Y* w( {•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 5 Q2 H, B+ z0 r& ?5 C/ Y) a
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
! n4 \3 [& z& P3 W; ~enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & x4 J" H9 E  S
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 1 E! ?- A$ Q/ }$ d
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
1 d8 q: I$ F4 w; b, T" L  Cthe board;  ) q% L7 E! |' M
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
% G% U+ X8 H! g  N7 w8 ^•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
' C7 Z" n0 D% g7 A" N6 g3 D5 Uthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
4 F2 I/ R0 J1 K3 f3 f1 C•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
$ j3 c* K" e& w- ochanging needs of the organization and community; % w& e; ?. T* x; Q. V7 K' R7 k2 i
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ) E; E% E1 h5 W) X& X- i( c
commitments;
5 G7 `/ l. B2 V•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
7 s# D" N4 O' A) s0 p$ d" I& v•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective / U& _2 V5 v( b5 C7 o9 t  _
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;    e* {# `+ z) |* i7 x3 m* T( _# u+ t
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; " ]& p; n+ h* v) _
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
# k7 z- l  J3 C+ d: N: N% Oeffectively and positively represent the association;

) g' Q2 g$ r. X" a: K& Z: @•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 4 s0 V1 z8 g  w  L7 e
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  $ e: b) \- j1 g" }/ C) g
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 G" W4 ^- y# x- V# operformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
4 d5 |7 p* C! ^( D. cthe forthcoming year;  
+ s6 ~; b1 L5 o3 u% C; d•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical + t8 U1 y! K3 ~$ l
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! V7 Y; j% j4 x0 k
YWCA Canada; and
7 d$ v) r- K/ r' T! o0 f•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
9 \! U0 y7 M. q4 @6 PForces.  ' s: M9 i+ j  c2 R

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ) d7 |! E' J8 y, c6 j0 b
around decisions, plans and actions;
! K/ l, J/ |1 a•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
' c' J* C6 `  m9 j•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
0 D' r- [& Y) y$ i" Kand achievable with realistic timeframes;
. U' c; ]3 }( i. r! V•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks / @* x5 f" y. F7 V
simultaneously;
( F$ A; \# T$ C. b•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
4 n/ c: t3 T* ?6 [2 k( drapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 3 U! \! Z/ _( x  B! U
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
: e4 \4 `0 \( k( h1 N•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
0 l! ]1 e& {  G% p6 y! x. B& N•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
# P5 r. H8 n6 f2 @+ F   c. O3 ^  p) a1 K
Required Experience $ e3 U& a3 o# O6 G
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + a7 e4 l% _6 Q$ X- W' a
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : m6 g8 h+ @4 a7 l" y& g- q
abilities; 6 s2 t1 T! Q1 q1 q! c
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ( I  S. ]; t0 L) p9 {1 Y. [
Networking and Fundraising; ( H1 z6 A9 {  [, m8 c
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
' N5 |) i; |; [and financial statements; and # U% d4 i; c7 _- N8 C8 I+ @
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 2 T+ Y8 t- ]) o! d
centered perspective. ( E# c6 d% t4 w  K
