2 _& Q6 h" K; U1 TThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
( d) g3 X. h) n/ a+ rthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 2 D$ e" b/ C& M1 x% {& a2 c
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
" S$ d- ~8 ^8 t' H& \# F0 d  gEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
/ d8 s6 y4 g" |surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA * E2 C# T. d0 `8 F+ p/ j! A" l& i
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
: J* A# D4 o  s, jexecution of the YWCA Strategy # k7 a' G$ P. k* J# I

! N8 e4 S  I& b/ @- _Specific responsibilities include:  - h, h8 m& O4 |9 |8 @7 q

% Q1 ^* d; _+ f: e( u•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
3 _$ q6 y& W* V; {; `2 Fthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 5 x# i* V7 c; O: a; L- v9 G
the Board of Directors;  
- S, U0 j0 q8 w•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations + ]( u# @# ]  z# V  T2 G4 Y
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , E: S5 g0 ~* f! c' S
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;   G2 V. F2 x" B1 G, `+ B& E! E: ^+ q
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 1 D6 i4 w) @+ d2 Z& j( }
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
8 ?6 Z) n; T( qthe board;    S& j/ S1 ?9 I7 O3 Q
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ) I9 y+ L6 J* @5 P5 |
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
8 g; {5 r4 [7 k+ h: mthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; % H0 T. ^3 M- W) l( T) v
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( G+ Q8 D* P# C7 {+ K& h  echanging needs of the organization and community;
4 c& r6 l! v" f. n/ W0 a5 Z•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue + N& T% ^: M2 `6 ^+ q: Q+ A! {/ ~
commitments; 2 E, p; ?! Q$ `* c. U! a
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
, O" Q8 o+ C! n3 v1 U+ X0 C•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
, d8 Y2 w% p6 s( D  fselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
: G9 {' `; ^2 C7 \3 `5 c•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
( S3 c. Y/ l- Z! h( l8 v( G4 S•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to * W  [7 {! v/ M. R# A1 ]
effectively and positively represent the association;

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ) U, r8 [0 N! R9 t7 E* s" o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ( G; Z) q6 H  X8 N2 d4 T, |
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal % k; |5 ]2 {. x( t
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
: w2 u, [6 L- H! f7 ]the forthcoming year;  ; \" v1 n- c' u- q! _8 Q' d
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 2 E( Z% `$ t& T: O9 {1 P
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
$ z( A8 a2 Q& U7 b2 S4 fYWCA Canada; and
7 g$ R: e$ n* O7 r% x•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
! B0 }* [) P1 c; l. W/ `; @Forces.  
$ K2 d' k3 _+ V* M7 E) {6 X  
  C' F; D+ p# d( [" s7 b5 ?9 uRequired Skills & Abilities
) c8 N- D  u8 p, v! R& O•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
* ]+ B  I: y" _  V2 C: P•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
4 o( R5 u& E* l# j/ I, I  N! }around decisions, plans and actions;   G+ E# K0 o* g; Q: s/ M+ g
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
+ _& o9 G7 u+ Z( R  S* Y•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ( l: S7 j# }; o& F
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ( T2 v; D# p% y, B! M
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks : z1 C6 J! ~; I1 M& Z( A& h
simultaneously;
/ c" W9 p; I# l" h% Y•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ; n% [/ m1 @+ x
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
1 i3 F1 d9 d" I7 L: a* Z•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and & D. D8 J2 n' y1 r9 B- O
•  Superior negotiation skills.

7 o% _, j, _) Q2 p4 \7 j3 i) H Required Professional Designation / Certification
8 h$ |  I3 y: e$ Y& y•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
' q$ a( {5 v* T4 E
- U9 n/ C! n7 @5 r6 _Required Experience " C7 F) [. L' q% O# n
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ' j2 v# i$ w' S) l3 g7 @
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
# q* c6 W# r! D$ O" s1 C. e8 fabilities;
! [' Y7 b. S8 D1 C5 g•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 ^' `! R8 g- [5 [6 s2 O+ @
Networking and Fundraising; $ O+ M# y: q$ t# T8 m, s9 c; j; _
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 5 A8 [! o! @; K7 x) Z. }
and financial statements; and - _3 K( x. h% r2 S) s0 v; Z
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
6 e' Z9 m2 P1 ~6 Vcentered perspective.
