The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ! U* p# k3 }4 y/ x/ i

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 3 w4 ~+ n+ ~8 n* E2 Z& L
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 3 E' C! P- S& {5 d

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ! b) ^2 q; o: b+ K! M3 ?
execution of the YWCA Strategy
+ y( r1 X0 A) K   C: Y( {3 V* O0 A3 A, x  \
Specific responsibilities include:  
; z* d6 Z, S* E% D1 h4 F- x
1 M; o* x2 y  c% n* C. v; j•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
7 d) k* x; q* g5 Z$ o" sthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
  V' C# @6 G& ethe Board of Directors;  
3 u) J* h4 G1 b9 `8 B5 T* P% a•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 r3 o1 E( F+ O( t
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to : t! U0 q$ O" u8 Q
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
5 {4 {) i# ]; s•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
6 v8 j$ F0 D) r1 F% U: i' uobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by + q# ?! V" G9 y+ t" X6 ?$ {2 `5 s
the board;  
: t, W" ?. ?  z4 u/ {•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  R* B  Q$ ^, [0 C•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
; ?1 e4 [% q; S- }, |% k9 `the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
: R9 F& }& Q. k) K: q/ B4 x6 y•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 4 ^+ M8 }: N* {* |4 ]
changing needs of the organization and community;
" H' O) J( j/ q; i2 d•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
, I) n, w& e- B+ D* Lcommitments;
- U$ q3 e+ M/ C•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
! ]9 b4 Y8 t: J% c% s4 Y•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective - M3 F; B* W/ H: h3 S& B( P% h
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  - ^: p( H& S+ H/ m. p* o/ C
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ! s2 e% i5 ^$ {( V1 [
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
9 C' L: D+ n5 m1 N  Ieffectively and positively represent the association;
" d* a' y4 o  v# r# D5 J6 f
% b9 C& u/ ?, v' L$ g% y•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 2 i3 I5 K1 m  O% ^2 K
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 K& @9 a! ~0 F•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 H% m+ @* r/ i0 h) A" k
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
3 C0 C  r8 P+ G0 S+ a  gthe forthcoming year;  $ z* o3 b: C8 x2 C
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
# Q4 {3 T3 K8 q: z$ Z7 Xpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
& V$ F* f& i8 u$ @0 s9 ]YWCA Canada; and
$ n- I# U; Z: |3 _1 X! l$ S•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task   m; m; M7 P" ^0 d3 n

Required Skills & Abilities
# F: ~# N: ]$ G+ J9 e  ]5 r•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ( D9 D8 l' ?6 H2 Z
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
0 w7 W+ e* P$ a6 Y5 w& `5 e2 K% daround decisions, plans and actions;
6 r5 c4 l$ ~& @" n* @7 o& ^3 q. n•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ) v2 Q6 W9 z4 P  w- _
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
2 F7 Y! N% ?3 C  @: ?  mand achievable with realistic timeframes; * Q3 p- k( X4 r% r7 Y# R, W' _: B
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Superior negotiation skills. - a# j0 D/ G! o

Required Professional Designation / Certification
9 C: r+ B/ f/ Y/ K•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
$ W; T- C2 k+ n0 Y1 D 2 E+ k3 x# E/ j6 @' A
Required Experience . l/ m7 o0 B9 o- u* m
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
5 ?1 L, l1 T0 I( r9 R3 ^•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
0 `3 q4 H" H7 |7 E+ r, q) h# K: [% ^abilities; 2 j! j& F& v$ d3 m5 |, }
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + J4 Q( E4 u) M+ }
Networking and Fundraising;
# {6 W  q, Q1 H2 l* l1 L# q•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
8 Z& \9 ?! U  A! g8 ]5 X" O  Iand financial statements; and
* P/ b- o- `+ }3 L% z# R2 k0 E•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
