: _" u& {# b$ i: O4 {" U1 FThe successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
: e1 K* i& W9 T3 }1 i" X3 c3 athinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 8 g- r# {# {2 O8 ~) \1 T
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
4 Y8 x4 c% N) S# n/ J# E& w* X" y( f9 CEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
- r$ v! N9 a  v3 w6 Ssurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ! p5 H9 A% U0 N$ y& l5 G
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the $ O! [- z, Z7 N( f( r" W% N6 s

% g8 Z. w4 Y/ U9 n+ sReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and + t4 y5 i; c1 T
execution of the YWCA Strategy ' A4 x" ~$ v4 U* l- W
: P; }8 Y7 L  e0 o2 O9 n
Specific responsibilities include:  : E0 G, ?- t, W" d) A: [
5 [% t6 `" K$ U9 ]$ H6 P2 z+ U
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of , \/ j5 J" v2 j4 Y
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by , t2 C, ~$ e) g/ \
the Board of Directors;  + @6 [9 ?) r: n8 l" \1 `
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
8 }$ [; D5 K8 @5 Aincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to   f4 z. p; L' ^$ {) \& {
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
1 Y8 k5 l, @* R7 R- D•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
; f/ y9 c# `0 H- q1 n7 X# M- d: uobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 3 A! V% r% `- ?% B9 q. k7 E" M
the board;  . Z7 B0 A* J4 f- e3 [1 ^
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  , E) ?: |$ H6 c
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
5 L: B1 D0 `# ^2 d, c1 z: Fthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
) s. t8 g) y3 ~# [, _2 o* E* ?9 X•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 H, d& c1 X6 C0 j* rchanging needs of the organization and community; : a' l5 w7 G( M- @( L# `2 {  n' {
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 9 G1 K; j) f+ \* k2 q, ?( u
commitments; + Q- x# u* s- d) {/ Y% l& p9 Z
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
% ?* P  M, u, u7 M•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ! v; h0 z/ Q/ J- I  {& P! A' z
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  $ \! Y7 }. P% S
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
, i( H2 _5 C) J# P•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to * y7 N  ?% @' e& s
effectively and positively represent the association;
3 D$ G& G0 W# t0 {% w) c' z! C4 i1 V  w( ]6 w6 V
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 0 A9 ]* X6 g% s( T- k
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  . ^3 B3 b4 ?$ O# a3 L+ Y
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 S6 n% t: K) P1 _4 _0 r2 u9 o, Bperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 5 q$ z5 {& _* Q" M
the forthcoming year;  
- Q0 v3 G8 r& x( k•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
* X1 S; C: W% [2 i) P5 Spractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
6 Z1 f) L% E4 OYWCA Canada; and
1 T" B2 D/ [* x  r) C•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
  P  s( E/ ~5 V( ^0 g, H% VForces.

3 l! O. X* M7 ~0 K6 s0 Z; B$ ^8 d•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 5 X" I; I+ u) P' }1 n! h) ~% g
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
: D! k. R0 \0 N9 paround decisions, plans and actions;
1 T* [  _% K% ?3 L7 X( y; K•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
" c/ y  {1 p6 }2 Q•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable * C+ _8 l8 Q* o9 ?( e* d
and achievable with realistic timeframes; $ `; u+ b$ Y7 x, [$ f& p( r
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 2 p7 d  Q: X7 t) Q
simultaneously;
- t: }- [& J8 B6 c+ h1 W•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ( e' t! k5 v# Y
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; & K1 y+ T% ^( d% U. c, `4 u% v8 L& U
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
9 ^7 a8 w6 M( w( f% M( ~) D/ j•  Superior negotiation skills. ( D9 x! e1 P9 }% m3 E

Required Professional Designation / Certification ! A- v2 E" M0 s+ V: H
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
4 A7 }# R+ X% p; g( g7 i4 f9 R6 n1 l # O( i5 X8 n1 j" s: E0 L6 P
Required Experience 8 A- w0 q9 {2 Y8 i0 D  r+ c
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
* U0 V1 J: h8 G0 T•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation & e* [8 i6 Y; r# {
abilities; . d/ H7 t' s6 g& v3 J
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
- T+ o* `% z) `6 @9 hNetworking and Fundraising;   o3 i8 i6 \7 b7 t5 ?/ ~5 e' t
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 2 E% T0 A) p$ U1 ~6 Q
and financial statements; and   V3 }0 F# F3 k' J; J
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 n0 w; U% P* O2 X% lcentered perspective.
