The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
$ w) c( |* f( `& M5 b1 SEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 3 h) [: g3 G2 b: T6 m- K6 k+ C6 o/ T
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ; ?' A$ U: n2 z! N' R6 i. d
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the $ z% F0 I& E" C- Z! c) \8 c: t0 x: }

Responsibilities
; l: I0 G7 ?4 K' m
9 |- v. ^5 N) q$ zReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
4 U4 P3 N  W" Y" g+ b7 x: ], }9 oexecution of the YWCA Strategy ( A! S  |5 n" S/ {" b
) }" E8 o- Z1 V! m$ h. d: u& V2 J7 s
Specific responsibilities include:  
& v: X; c8 b1 T- k  d* \
9 B" a/ h  X. m5 l/ a4 {•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of : w0 @$ |1 z1 ]
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by - b! f; u/ X0 p/ ~  n
the Board of Directors;  
( C8 e# h7 D0 @  J•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
" i  J$ z2 ?* f% F2 e, {including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
* ]7 r8 H" ~: b& i2 z: F# u' @7 Senable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
3 L: i7 N' y. S5 F2 `4 t•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and - I2 l) W3 i$ `. I
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
* l' U2 E- `/ S4 o( S) C/ Fthe board;  " i3 W, M2 p" \! ^
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  . R- H1 Z9 N3 f7 _
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- |3 x8 f# `' z% H! Zthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
  ~) d& X" l6 k. j' P% b9 |•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the , X- Z+ W. W$ Y4 B$ V
changing needs of the organization and community;
. I! S% A  R: D0 \# [•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
9 K7 r0 z# P0 Qcommitments;
9 k; O4 e. x, e' W•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  " z8 \) @+ [3 r, t
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
, m: u6 o7 J! C3 @4 x- a8 rselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
* o5 W4 R2 B/ Y$ ?) F- D  G•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. k; r! g! d; A•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
- h4 b0 K* D$ s% Q# O% Geffectively and positively represent the association; 5 g# E) F, r8 q
/ q5 z5 y; H  {  A2 r
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 4 U; f. Q6 Y5 @$ h" k6 s/ z: o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  7 H5 x1 p+ A* ~- j8 ?
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal * e* x4 w* l* B1 E& W' g
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
5 P% B, [7 R1 o/ Tthe forthcoming year;  & A2 t3 Y+ F) `+ ^2 h6 L6 Q
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
! U% @3 U/ _/ G! e  Jpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
) e( l/ C# O6 Q( r0 {1 A+ X3 kYWCA Canada; and   [0 d2 ^4 w; |  W+ {0 D
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
  N- q5 [, g" eForces.  
* V$ c# C/ ^* \" G" Q- f1 w$ `8 l  
/ r3 o  q9 z, e3 W' {Required Skills & Abilities
7 E, s- Y  T7 a# m5 \/ n•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
( e, D6 E, V$ S. y•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus - T0 ]8 D! J" b. w# N6 _9 }
around decisions, plans and actions; & U5 B4 P* U4 k  a
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
. t, V0 [" {; h•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable " x& y! f- K4 C: h2 Y6 X
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
( a& a3 Z2 s6 T/ h4 L. o/ {% t•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
) e7 T  G( `+ I* ^4 ^. w& \simultaneously;   i" c7 W; S0 F* U  H+ R( I
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 0 h. v9 L* x" p. p5 H
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 7 t6 p2 O1 N* g0 O- Y7 |
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
; d. r/ o( N) B! J' O* h•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
2 ]4 [9 q4 [/ V" q: u- B
! s8 x+ @, t; L$ T6 Z9 sRequired Experience
7 m# [  q3 L' {5 z+ E( \% |•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 9 B& }5 ~& q) s
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
2 i9 w# J2 B5 b5 ?  P. v  K. w$ Y; @' D. sabilities;
& w" `& r. x, ?•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   K! C2 r& O: j, B0 A
Networking and Fundraising;
. U3 t: R/ ?9 |" }% ~4 j•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting & R, [+ w5 ?' R% ]' U& \
and financial statements; and
: V$ v& z. v1 E. z•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women % I/ ~- W" n! U$ K1 H
centered perspective.
