thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 2 G9 h! |) S$ @% L0 I3 @8 i' X& l
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 9 K3 Y+ G, l. w4 r- h, C( @- x3 v: T
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
# E$ k+ L2 P9 Bsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
' K2 ?$ h6 Q, JEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the / |1 A/ M' F7 L5 ~; b, ^3 C
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities 5 i) f% [( j: T( C

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and - g! `* E- y/ d: s; o
execution of the YWCA Strategy
* c$ {7 |% d; f3 R+ F9 P  @ $ V. a& b( B' n# ~5 x
Specific responsibilities include:  
. E# Y' p$ G' X  \: D# Q # ?+ l5 M5 X) z- H; F3 P
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ' Y+ O% _( y* e+ G3 O1 c
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
7 h( R  L& m0 g7 rthe Board of Directors;  
5 l9 ^2 T  Z3 r" i4 ]% l•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
0 }+ d. d  {( a- r) u5 o/ sincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
6 C8 F4 a7 x. aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
  c$ Z# s; q" Q  L•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
" r0 I1 D& r2 M% U2 Xobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
4 F" n% `. F- [: `# G2 Athe board;  
0 F* J" f" @0 c3 `) K, z3 h•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  . u/ S3 z! \0 D( p- j4 b" Y  k- N
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion " s/ J8 g0 F, _  K
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 1 c7 {! g) f  V" r# L! h( R
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 8 l$ y8 u7 O; Z' ~
changing needs of the organization and community; ' Z: K+ L& [2 Y' Y6 M6 J+ C6 _
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
: N9 J3 M# B4 Kcommitments;
& t' D1 r$ |. z, m2 |•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
; [/ \8 @  c, Z2 q. {: d2 Y/ @; c. j7 d( }•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( I5 D4 X( J+ A% }4 q7 {
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  / Z! Z8 ~$ m) \6 B+ c, u7 Y; t: M
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
# A. ]0 m: m: Y6 [2 p, V•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
. Z8 }7 q# C! b$ D9 geffectively and positively represent the association;
$ R' o9 J. K. k3 Q. @) h4 b, U+ @) D) F1 @$ f' r5 \  d( _" U) M! c& F
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 W5 `$ K' D% s
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  $ k6 m* e& ]6 d- V3 s+ e9 u
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal , [4 t1 S" i. ~# x
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
4 }1 \" p% i1 o, G1 k3 Q! l# ]the forthcoming year;  " k5 `  H1 ]" a9 V
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical - z0 k! C; p5 B' ~( f0 O$ Y9 e+ \
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
# s  C/ l- v+ j. F/ g1 C: dYWCA Canada; and
0 a8 S3 t3 Q4 q3 b! Q•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 0 F9 {3 ~' f# _0 C) v
Forces.

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; : `& `4 b( T' M2 _
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
; k% w5 \+ H$ @around decisions, plans and actions; & j2 M" g, I" B  l" C
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
* U3 t- {, j& k•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
, H8 Q5 P' X' K. H4 g+ e# L2 x8 zand achievable with realistic timeframes; / F3 @8 a, T+ ?/ [6 y$ E& ?
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 2 U/ r( A9 S* k% _9 \
simultaneously;
6 a$ ]* n2 a: g) B7 O4 e•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 F/ w" r& v, J: a& V, k
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
  \4 G' {9 T2 C  e+ ~" L•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ' G2 \& a- ~* q1 o3 o) s% Y
•  Superior negotiation skills. ' J3 W) ^8 h4 n3 A- L( `

Required Professional Designation / Certification ! A) F; G+ X; ?/ S5 `/ p7 j$ a
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
! f" b- B) B- x) Z, w4 f# v. M7 s ' R  a: l) g6 m- ~9 N& z: K
Required Experience 9 t, i4 \1 P$ S$ |
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; % t% ^5 n( z' @+ a/ ]0 J5 Q
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
$ @; R0 z7 M! W( {, Dabilities; # V% K$ ~% n  m. C7 R
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 1 I; B2 T7 x% B8 n- F1 ~$ V2 x
Networking and Fundraising; ; U/ A  }3 K* p) G8 o4 w, H
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
# n$ b3 t7 c4 v& K7 Rand financial statements; and
" }% J4 Y3 e# K* h* l•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
