5 O# H) Z/ s3 zthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
& l& q+ G4 S, r8 Q7 C& Jthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
: q( r% @+ p0 F! j0 [Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and - E  j) P# \0 j; Z, S% d  f$ _
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

) r. H! {  d8 u, z- zReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
3 u3 x; q) i3 d% qexecution of the YWCA Strategy
% Q! V1 [5 z8 m: ?
: `4 J/ i0 I+ ]9 ~. ySpecific responsibilities include:

+ e+ k3 }: R# E' I6 [•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
5 O7 G2 H7 V$ z2 s4 |( P; O1 ?the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
  }' f: t. ?! Z* W& pthe Board of Directors;  & T8 H* F5 ]# k3 q( L
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
4 b6 O  b* F( _  X) e7 Fincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
/ I, P  L  [) t9 Z( V. ~5 fenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; . w- w% e0 s/ ?, ^
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and ) B- D8 y$ {+ X5 J# Q" I
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ' z/ D4 a; r# ]! I; z
the board;  7 ~0 U& S* d: Y
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  : @/ s, e& R" I4 q% X
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
5 M  {# m; D, U' wthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 j0 e, F9 C3 T# F% R$ K" [
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the $ d' D8 P+ Q* O, ^2 k
changing needs of the organization and community;
  i3 w$ U+ N6 g6 m•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
8 N/ {1 F3 Z5 l2 gcommitments;
* l$ @, t6 H8 g- i( \# f( L3 F•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ! \; G( U  k9 [  ?8 Z4 c
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; A) \$ b+ E' c; Z/ \9 Gselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
) T9 P+ v/ X- r! }6 E+ x•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; - \/ l, g9 ^4 f. }5 m5 d
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to - ~% b7 [4 U& Y+ b( D1 x
effectively and positively represent the association;
& B% J# K+ D0 z! ?4 ?4 \( m3 J7 D  g$ V% [) @& C/ ?
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
# e$ H8 A8 c4 I0 vthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
! v0 s4 u- X1 }2 _3 U) p; \•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
, J5 l0 H* B& f3 Z" W8 `performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 0 h  O: c- d0 K6 ~) o. k
the forthcoming year;  
4 t* n3 m7 k( e% X; g" O; ], t: \9 G2 |' y•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 m. P6 q7 w7 X! L
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
! e! W( x2 u6 K; ?. }$ c; A) l6 yYWCA Canada; and 2 n' I, @2 {2 P% \4 M6 l: b( b4 i
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
9 L" S. \% b/ U6 S1 \Forces.  " B  t% s1 I' m3 p& u1 d

Required Skills & Abilities
% ]' S! C% h! P  R•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; , p" ~# V' m8 `' @+ F+ V
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
8 g8 L, H6 f  e7 d2 O•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 9 b0 i3 K, f6 Z2 q
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 3 ?7 A5 n& u, o) k: X* L% P
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks % ^* w- O, k9 b+ i* O8 |% E

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build % H4 ?  n" ?$ S! i2 R# W& Z+ e
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ) O6 q" ~% K2 R1 |
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification # W9 d6 x7 ?3 A
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

4 F$ b/ \2 j5 i9 O  V: h0 mRequired Experience * D6 v" U) a: d8 R# q
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 5 Q1 [9 V5 u% U* D" `0 q- a4 C
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ' ^* [9 s( D1 |2 i+ _
abilities; $ X4 |% n) j: g/ c. \2 A) N8 v9 i# Q& H- Y
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
" }) \8 |; ~0 @( q; Y' W- g) ANetworking and Fundraising;
/ u0 d8 g! Z( N) X9 ]8 }' p•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting $ r+ c9 s" m; k. i3 B. I* c6 u
and financial statements; and , W/ N; F, _" T0 S4 |5 `4 j
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
) `4 X8 z( m+ f& H/ F/ w6 Tcentered perspective.
