The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
: p+ R# S: T% e1 H* dthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
8 S% U( \7 T$ T9 Qthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA % F/ U. r  {" R0 E" l: O) n
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and $ ]$ P6 D5 I. U; Q" y  K% B
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
1 h/ G% Z: R, r, k* X  q, kEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities ( H: F& K" \/ V# u) t' G9 K0 m; a9 [1 E

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ( P9 X5 t$ Y. z7 ~& A
execution of the YWCA Strategy 7 k  y( k) j, {/ A) L

+ D+ @; K, Z( K2 OSpecific responsibilities include:  
& k& u! p$ s; L1 E- u* d& m
$ `: L' |: l. e: p6 P•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ( h$ @; ^6 ?% M4 b
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
0 v/ D2 S. u" d( Othe Board of Directors;  ( I$ ~( j% ]# ?4 J" `+ a
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 Q# i4 u' q/ Q8 i3 ~
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
3 A& L, R$ S+ B/ t8 Henable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 0 v9 t5 u- k/ a+ s3 g
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and - B8 o* m2 ?7 r4 r8 W; Y# J
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
+ F* E9 U# Z5 K- b& g3 m7 Gthe board;  
6 ]! y; k7 d% V: ]+ T% ~/ A( W1 V•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  q6 u& g$ o$ c  G+ n* l•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
: R0 R: |) I% r! n2 n/ x4 bthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
3 |0 f/ e" L" w( W$ ?•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
/ {) t8 Y3 Y. D+ g% I  v7 q( u- ?changing needs of the organization and community;
6 \( Y7 j* v$ q& v8 Q% T•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ; p5 n. P! |* ]! q! K- q
commitments;
; `% q  p+ U0 t•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  7 x- |0 J; J9 E" a0 X( ?
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
+ }1 o- |! B4 X6 Oselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
" [9 Z3 a! q' ?" c4 o1 i•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 2 ~' o, {9 I& v5 H6 @7 H
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to - u/ g' d- ]  N; ?: D. y
effectively and positively represent the association;
( Y3 u& r+ l  {' t. y4 S; y; i) U4 n/ C- W& `/ T( w4 [
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 0 V# D0 A% T2 {7 |9 t& U3 ^9 T# d
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ( Q6 q8 S  S8 @2 Z' D+ o
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
  O6 m& w, ^! f6 R- @performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
) y" r9 z9 j! Z$ k9 r6 g! cthe forthcoming year;  , G" [, d2 Y5 D0 Y) L
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
7 q+ f9 b1 x9 J  l8 Hpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
6 {  B3 b' T8 ~$ gYWCA Canada; and 1 K) j+ u% z, `, Y; q/ p/ I
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
6 R+ B$ F# b% V/ f! P1 t: wForces.

4 Z/ g$ S7 Q. p6 o•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; $ D" ]  H* T) d, g* ^: u: J' R
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
* W9 J/ z$ y- u5 @( @' jaround decisions, plans and actions;
8 q/ V9 I! ~: R2 M•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
+ Q& i+ z, N' m& ?/ W•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 5 U, g6 }0 O+ w  k* R
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
8 R" }( N' X- ]•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
0 N+ G0 [7 ^. J" Msimultaneously;
; K5 [/ b( z$ |7 _7 {0 H" d•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ) D, _! [/ k% B! F% r- \- X9 Z
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
) h+ L6 }. z# M* i% i•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and / I1 e5 b7 y/ G- {; V

Required Professional Designation / Certification 8 t/ H3 f* l( t
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 5 V' i% Y, n% \2 j* y$ p
$ H8 Y" E" Q& v; U
Required Experience 2 _" _5 b% T# c' J! P
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
7 @$ y7 _1 k2 [•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation . U7 D' @! p7 ?4 H
abilities;
+ n2 E) a+ n: `0 h- N6 ^( w5 N•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 ]2 I2 Z2 c5 z( g* @. i
Networking and Fundraising;
( a0 o: O  I4 u$ z5 ^/ U# [•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
. s( b. m& [) R8 s! ?' T: s# qand financial statements; and 6 a. p. {: ?0 L% ~8 R
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ; o% c/ ~( `) u/ X# q
centered perspective.
