The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
+ z1 Z, q4 y* lthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
" g8 E7 C: w4 G4 ~1 ]- Bthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA & n3 e( p4 U, H$ S
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
6 h- v5 T- p: q* z8 nsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
$ E( Q/ [) ^% C3 G& S' _
: w! `$ {: p1 jReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
0 Z5 [: F1 \$ R  N4 ]: wexecution of the YWCA Strategy # D: A2 V9 j8 l2 }1 Q5 x4 p8 h* m% L+ j
! U% V$ q1 \8 e4 X+ j
Specific responsibilities include:  
8 e! S' `* y' H 8 T3 [: x# ]- [; y, F5 B
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of * V3 \1 C' r% s' a4 D  ?' N4 t
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
1 j3 y' i$ r. ?the Board of Directors;  
4 L& t$ w2 z4 s4 X2 J0 i•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 5 ?' }$ k/ }" a
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # N1 f& A: `/ a- L* e
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & e3 _  c$ v$ P, I
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and + U/ P6 A: D' y% I! C* I* w, V
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 6 f) G* V2 x  h9 J
the board;  6 c* N( H- @. J9 E* S0 o
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  , @' ^" |9 U$ `
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
! q8 I4 A" V; z# l7 X! |/ t9 Pthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
" C1 g1 x4 F! A& V) |•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the # x6 D4 [- Y2 t$ r3 q
changing needs of the organization and community;
' E0 G+ ]9 E- v1 |+ L. D& ]" R) p•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
* Y% q. S) s; y+ M5 Ccommitments; 7 |9 V: s6 {' V4 |9 A) {; L
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  & ~4 A* ~/ ^) s5 y1 n  m
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
; e5 E; f- B- p* h: }$ f4 k( g2 a+ Q5 Jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
' e. x' @& o6 \; h•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
9 j7 p, Z( ~# u) L•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
; K7 a- f! e9 @effectively and positively represent the association;
( e6 F/ g5 Y2 A2 D2 J: G; N1 y: N' Q
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
. {9 u: W8 p( r+ A7 L: wthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  6 m# L; y0 R% g) @$ l" ?7 b+ g6 i$ T
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal . w  }) ?% |+ V2 ^, a' ~+ p
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
' o* i% g4 L# z: a' r$ T( Bthe forthcoming year;  
+ a% ~3 A& y) Z0 }4 R: t•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
4 ]6 K! v; }$ m7 Hpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
+ k. e, ?5 Z0 h% ~/ s9 Y& fYWCA Canada; and " n$ x& G  d% c% x
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 0 s6 Y( Y' `7 W: Z3 D4 ~. q

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;

and achievable with realistic timeframes;
3 A- E6 x. m) U•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

5 r( _7 L$ U" ?( e•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

  Y" l9 W" {/ a8 v5 s5 [•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.

; ]+ b. _$ `* N( Y' r- W9 xRequired Experience ( i% a  R: J, u: S
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
- A# e& z% n: `2 y- r2 t; }•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation * H0 n% i9 A7 f4 V' Z) Y, q% X
abilities; $ n  S$ L# a$ ^1 @. K, _
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
6 {' _! b9 n4 C% _- tNetworking and Fundraising;
: \1 n0 R  F+ ]# p: v0 }•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting + ^# i1 w8 ?. G1 E: `5 w/ C
and financial statements; and ; _5 j; ]7 b9 P; ^. L
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women . C/ f0 [/ G7 F& s. r5 i
