The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
+ c+ V5 W% K9 QEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
9 l- u. A5 V& Y9 D. u$ k3 C( Xsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA " `4 i2 O7 T/ k2 u, ?
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities + C, r3 v2 E" h

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
1 y4 u' s) {; {9 Texecution of the YWCA Strategy + u8 Y- q& ]: q0 a5 m

2 a9 Y7 g8 i) z( gSpecific responsibilities include:  
8 b9 i# m/ M3 b" V 1 m- [) |  _# ?" K2 C3 i; V  K
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of + |* j% `1 O# X: A& h0 N
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
6 `, q- y  U3 c6 E! o# @' u0 e3 t( Cthe Board of Directors;  ! S( G; {! _3 U' T
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
2 Z" M. {% j! k, {1 zincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 0 H% Q9 [; L: Q' @4 }/ k/ b) @- [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & q# t1 h" u! z7 j; Y2 l+ F" `/ X
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 \3 w5 J; z+ X, h2 R7 h1 U% y% _
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by * Q- v3 V* F: w% W: [2 g
the board;  
# k: t1 h/ }- A' b& [* ^  S•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
8 Q4 M  C6 |1 j4 j•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
) E  m+ ?. R3 Z8 M! g+ \& s8 qthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 }' G, s7 \1 f/ L& m" ?•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
0 e5 Y  u# M2 x2 y) s1 W5 dchanging needs of the organization and community; ) f7 H! T7 l1 U; s4 Z2 K
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
, x  c6 e3 T! P& W9 T$ {- wcommitments; $ x6 W0 ^3 M7 O7 y( Z, o/ F3 l
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
& E2 W8 K9 ?6 m4 m0 \' `. b- d•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
* a0 {% ~- f. Z. Q3 ^: fselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ' j- |3 I$ H- {9 q: U
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& G- v! ?2 q& c$ j6 e3 E•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to , V/ K" ~  I: D/ d, _( q
effectively and positively represent the association;
0 A% L& W  k% r$ Y" z: Q1 x
4 Z. d! W7 B4 f) _. ?•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 2 n6 i* B4 R, y9 G
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
/ i! S" e% M9 {" G' ?! e•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ; A1 }' r. j# a! s- ]
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED   S, Y5 `0 {. I
the forthcoming year;  
/ z5 q7 o/ d# d0 v  O. \4 i2 u- U•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ; \. b5 ]. P5 J( p5 C
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
; u  |- I! u. D; FYWCA Canada; and ( j" O: R- Y) Q, h
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 0 W8 n+ V4 M/ K: b: q) n

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
0 y& g% J- j! C( c- F•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 0 L1 K/ _  p( r6 I# q8 \
around decisions, plans and actions; 6 P6 d. V9 B$ p7 V" ~
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ( L  d3 y/ _9 C. M% l
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ; e, t/ U  C1 n# w3 M( q( N7 u- m
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ( z$ V, K: ]3 p3 n/ ~+ R6 h
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
. z2 y8 P; c/ {1 T" K& D1 ksimultaneously; * R& j6 H& q3 h4 V8 S- [- d
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 8 o8 v. X3 n1 F/ |% W
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
4 Y( D8 b! [8 f& j' {$ ~: Y•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

3 W% M, n+ k% h* P5 K( t Required Professional Designation / Certification
' C* p. Y2 ?& t; W+ S•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. - s$ u, `- S5 ~, Y2 V
" i& ~! T& O  X3 l1 m: v
Required Experience
/ I0 f; I! ^3 S•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 }" P3 y( C0 t# N•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
  G8 \8 N) F6 z% E3 pabilities;
# M7 m4 k3 l* B/ i) {9 U1 I•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, " ]5 I; f$ Y4 a- n1 z; d; }
Networking and Fundraising;
3 h9 Y3 k3 o6 Y•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting " K# m9 a1 y3 Y. N+ }
and financial statements; and * {+ o9 Z# O9 [0 O  {, z5 O. ^
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 2 C8 q/ N2 ^; y" R3 _
