% N, i# O  o! ethis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
7 h/ Y( {& Z, z% O9 C9 x( DEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities ) U1 A2 O9 ]' `! F) c7 k

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 4 k* l; H. n$ f
execution of the YWCA Strategy 7 P0 O' R- u3 U6 A
$ X7 b' Z- k/ L* M# d7 O
Specific responsibilities include:  
$ s* l% q& j% f" B2 [+ D ) \; Y/ z- Q7 g- U0 Z7 t
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of : g$ G6 E1 d4 h# n/ p4 Z( f
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by : C8 J- t* w7 |. P7 @7 m
the Board of Directors;  ; e: |) f" W. W( _/ z- C) \
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
: W* P% @# c0 T* p. Bincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to / G+ \. \' _1 p. E  `" V
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ) W" S5 @0 s3 u- E- `5 ]
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and $ j4 a5 I& O4 R5 y$ n8 ~
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
9 ?2 M5 |3 B4 P$ B- o7 o# gthe board;  
/ J7 D4 b" _/ o. n/ w) o•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# v% h2 K7 g0 Q2 E& N' I8 Y* V& X•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
0 h! S, W' i: {  i: bthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 ^6 N& J2 u& [- U: B3 X7 _•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
3 U4 Q8 D  |3 z+ N6 U4 r* ~changing needs of the organization and community;
3 a0 B5 G( D* z6 r1 g•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 3 ~( R3 W! T, }* V$ B; r
commitments; % L7 ]- O, a- W+ D: s
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  8 {, ~' g  Y% M3 P& P
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective : ?( Z+ T! ]5 }  }+ ^
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
9 Y# l* H  f( X( x•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 0 i7 k- Y; L  Q& f; F) a
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
  q5 c8 a1 n& d) b! Veffectively and positively represent the association;
7 f! @9 [  ]) G% |$ F! |' A
0 s+ _1 t1 x' q5 Y, X1 M$ ?# S* o•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
1 k* o  g" U/ r, N# `& [1 ~8 l3 dthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  1 L1 v! y/ B4 ?. M3 V  o& y0 v( o
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
# L" m. I! c) T0 [1 Yperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 2 \# m7 t0 n1 M! H8 ]: c: K
the forthcoming year;  
5 F6 U- Y6 K; i: F6 _2 {6 C•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
9 e# w; h7 G! w8 R+ S! {" {practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
/ `4 {% u  G5 @( b) z% sYWCA Canada; and
6 c. w& y$ r# O+ m  T: m: J•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 6 V7 x# Y6 Q* q: C

Required Skills & Abilities
0 r6 E" M9 X* I) [5 ?/ N& S& f•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
6 I$ X. R; V( {) T$ }•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus + I5 t! W. j; }; J
around decisions, plans and actions;
$ b6 Q5 z/ j4 H$ @) G•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
* @9 B* C8 `/ Z" D! f•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ' i3 {7 Z1 I) v
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
/ y/ P8 i4 X# q) n2 y•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
% ^. p3 _, E5 w1 m1 I: `+ L3 ssimultaneously;
( M9 m) V' m5 K! J# J•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
. U5 Y! f* t+ z; orapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; % ?! x$ T/ b0 I; m7 d" K
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and / _8 g8 Y3 a5 R8 Y* b' J( B
•  Superior negotiation skills. : @8 |$ ?8 K' [( [

/ F/ [5 S6 e$ c0 l! p; ^ Required Professional Designation / Certification " N& c5 q8 N, i) c1 s
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 9 ^( e3 y% u& N$ B; g0 L& {! D/ S

1 l% \: V0 B* E. [Required Experience 1 v' b1 j& ]- L  T/ l
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
6 E2 s" }' A- L, R! |•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
) _7 U- W7 ~$ c" ], Y' r. fabilities;
1 d9 E# Q+ W0 u/ L$ ~•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
6 l. O4 }6 S! O6 u7 p1 [Networking and Fundraising; " g/ I, J  D& M, _* \
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 1 e5 z) z; _' t4 S
and financial statements; and
& n  f4 c  ~+ q  q9 L3 ~•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ! }+ I& J: v$ t5 r6 j2 l9 x
centered perspective.
