The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
0 r0 [3 S& L- R0 Pthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
0 ]( l4 D+ H2 T1 M; T' x, X  Mthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 4 q% E# F* K  Q' |8 f3 f
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and - H( X2 \. D" B7 \7 m' x& U+ U
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 6 W8 D3 k' |) j8 n/ W& H6 V" e
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the + |" q/ l! h1 u8 T& M
community the agency serves.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
7 i$ l* j  A, Qexecution of the YWCA Strategy
# a5 C4 x4 l6 b& c$ e! k$ H, N
# B  `1 h% Y; E+ a+ J- B" m2 ZSpecific responsibilities include:  
- k: N" b- h1 d4 U5 A& o ! R  W5 u( p, z. G& y! l# i
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 7 }: F5 i* M9 a* A2 p
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 @9 K: U& `$ ]5 d9 K
the Board of Directors;  $ _+ \/ C; A4 ~  K( x( y
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 9 T' R# Y% [6 R0 K
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 8 v  F( R+ z! h; m  n$ w
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; , |  |& a6 ?6 d5 k
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
' E& S7 ]" {) v4 i& Q  _0 yobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
  L+ K. _. @, R* Q; Ithe board;  ( O1 `5 R& b4 H' V, ]0 K+ F
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ) A/ [8 W5 x; u  k" P
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ) v4 g" a& l7 n! V0 [, m, u* }* T
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ) g# j% @9 n5 j  j
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 @7 r. D5 u$ G: \2 q4 H9 _* k/ Vchanging needs of the organization and community;
4 h& l3 L6 g0 v& e2 J; ^" A) h7 x•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue & V, ]4 _0 G7 w3 G9 L* y
commitments;
0 ^. G1 M1 V8 D; D( g: c& s•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  - |( E% e  n5 J7 S% E
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 2 V9 t) N! o; a
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
( P8 n, I$ ]( F8 p•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
- o8 L5 @! ^  e1 ~•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to % S) [5 n) }: T9 V% N4 X
effectively and positively represent the association;

% Y0 ^  a/ G! t! i) t2 m•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ' N( B/ U/ g) v" A5 c
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ( t" i4 |4 }4 I6 X
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
; p: ~5 l0 \* C5 a  Aperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 2 j2 S' r$ i3 i$ `3 P" T
the forthcoming year;  9 T6 b; K' z% o' f3 l
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
  u2 u2 J& \; ^) o+ B! L. qpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of - @! k) c+ o* G" _( {9 v  U' y- D
YWCA Canada; and ! {6 [( U  a( j0 e8 ]
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task & z8 B8 V) {' s  d
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities - g& O: D; _, p: _) m0 P
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; . V$ @/ _* d0 P. B* _7 o1 i
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 1 f# m# o* f  z$ _5 A. O, h% t$ T
around decisions, plans and actions;
3 J+ R/ J2 \) V- m/ h•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 T& u) e# T/ {$ R, i
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
+ W* i' q5 k  ?" E; P; [and achievable with realistic timeframes; . C  w  L8 @) m/ d! `/ p* j  r
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks " T9 r% i$ p4 H" B5 x
simultaneously; ' e7 X$ {0 Z; `! N5 }, `9 j
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
) [/ b. p+ O! @8 Y; I$ w4 h. crapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 0 _) P0 u1 W$ L# f& `8 [( \* O! z
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 7 V6 j& |% w" ?

Required Professional Designation / Certification - w* X" @# b) S
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
8 T8 a0 K0 @  B 7 E  ^2 I! T' }
Required Experience / O! U  x5 c7 l$ K5 W+ |" N7 w
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ) O$ O/ \# k5 t
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation , H. l! V. A+ B$ b
abilities; 1 a/ O/ f1 Q- f+ j; B" C
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, , {9 A% ]6 |* A5 y; \
Networking and Fundraising;   O5 r' D; K3 k
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
7 h7 s3 ^* _( [- Jand financial statements; and
7 l0 I" p, O8 L•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
# Y5 t* i- c5 F' \  w- {centered perspective. 0 V, u) F% ~! C: G
