The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic # B- d/ Y( @- I
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
3 t5 v, b7 U1 [+ b: g; {& ?8 r6 Ythis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
2 B& U3 z( f7 i/ ~Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ' r( s1 ~- \: t2 m, s/ v, Q! I2 q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA * o& ]  s" l, A
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 3 R+ n4 g' L$ R* Z; {

Responsibilities ( `1 Q- P: {9 {( X

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
6 u/ F5 o- \( m; M8 T7 p8 hexecution of the YWCA Strategy
' S6 G# y1 x7 z, L+ @' d
8 ?* M& C* X8 D3 s  Y7 BSpecific responsibilities include:  
2 \9 m% X/ B2 R8 C) B; b8 e/ f  E
) D1 p  Y; I  v" Q% b3 Z•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 2 n) {1 l" I9 c" ?' z3 ~1 U
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
" w) [+ x) s9 q0 Rthe Board of Directors;  1 M+ R. Y. T) K$ R3 _* r
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
% E0 [" S# h2 K  jincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to . P$ Y7 Y: K) y* O) [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
, c! F+ g$ ?8 Q•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and # D  H' o, I$ U$ [
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
- [. f5 [7 C$ p3 z6 E; gthe board;  $ Q8 U- H, V+ S  D; o1 z
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
& l  ?5 h- t5 v- `; ^% g8 _•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
- J' p5 ~' L: Athe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
* u! r1 T& {4 b' P•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 9 P$ |3 y  j( z
changing needs of the organization and community; 5 z6 G1 ?3 b% z
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ; D1 a5 h" G5 j4 w( e' e; \- p
commitments; & G9 K/ O, t- g
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
# E6 E9 [; F' P. R& ~•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 2 x) O- l6 T# T) e/ L
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  2 m, ?) U2 w$ W: r1 [
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; * \' o8 B1 u9 ^* A: F9 P6 M, Q8 U: _
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ I) t) ^  s; k2 H/ m
effectively and positively represent the association;
/ P/ F; `% y; c! L! f2 Q. p, n2 O9 L, z: c: k" G3 w
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
: |; [8 |" U/ V# e" Athe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  7 S. l  s" o  Q" F
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
0 W% _9 _- G# m. @performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
: M5 b8 @+ c0 A9 H1 V, o0 Jthe forthcoming year;  
+ _+ |8 q$ O" |/ }% N* {•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
6 Y. ^) e* B8 o( v3 T3 w; Ypractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of & H" d- B. m5 t! L1 G
YWCA Canada; and
( m1 I7 m4 ?% y7 ?' A& \! S•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task ! ^" ]! c5 O' M  o
Forces.

" Z; z* z) q, j9 rRequired Skills & Abilities ; V7 v9 J1 z/ b7 O
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
* y' v+ A( w9 @1 W•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus # s9 q" L' U6 r& C/ m7 s
around decisions, plans and actions;
. R- C& f+ a- Q7 B: g9 Y/ T•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
* ?; O' `, q' x•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable - ~0 g  z/ H) C
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
& Z8 c. H" b" I) D( f' J•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 6 g4 i1 S9 u' Y% A" m8 {
simultaneously; ' b' f) }( ~) F4 `( i
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 9 ^- g9 l4 t8 m5 z. j+ l
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 7 i% y+ N# L' E0 L
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and * P& |( d2 G9 ]2 j
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
/ X" [2 P! e' G•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 S( G8 C/ {4 A( s
/ r2 j9 Q+ G# b& @# C- Y
Required Experience
- E2 ?( |7 l; Z•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; * c$ S8 ]- g8 A
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
: i2 ^+ g8 q1 ?9 labilities;
* X, \& Q2 |1 [) P5 X# G: i•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   \8 W' z) u* Y( w
Networking and Fundraising; $ U" k$ v/ O. |" K# Y! J( b
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting , b/ T  h( t9 w2 J
and financial statements; and 7 W) Y  v& L. {" ?6 s; m6 f
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ! Z5 N1 @# c2 ?- \, o# P9 J) \
centered perspective.
