The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic # n+ K% ]. p: M* u0 B3 Z
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead ) H( k7 X) j6 B( l( t1 W9 W
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
; s1 \* D1 W4 Y: \Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and   D; a8 r' i* C8 G
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ' Q8 w+ _2 O& U0 r9 m
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
0 i; ?* R7 P( [" F  E+ |# U 8 L& A$ q6 p. _1 p- N( t; ?( v
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 5 j8 X0 o5 M& r
execution of the YWCA Strategy 4 s9 q. X- j+ W1 b6 X& [
1 Y- O$ A8 k! T. H3 S: H1 o
Specific responsibilities include:    \( B8 I( h9 D( p/ Q, n* Z
% ]: e7 W; ]1 b) n1 C
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of , \/ y5 M- B0 N. S
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
& M' h" y) F; P- L( A" A/ ]$ }4 Tthe Board of Directors;  2 E/ {) g; S0 \( h
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 7 B8 l. |+ o1 [
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
( }& z4 `% {" n& u. denable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
. c& U1 u/ O; H$ M•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
( {! n' Z- y! _* z3 l0 b" H4 Xobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
2 `* A% o: B0 Ithe board;  
  t' q5 ?7 ]7 V% N9 @! @•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
- O# r8 K0 G. |3 ]2 y5 Q+ X9 V1 ?•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion + {& n& L# E, m  ^5 D; t# A2 [  q
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 9 |, J/ B$ Z$ F$ ^& i! v( U
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / T" H% n' p% h
changing needs of the organization and community;
# |' L! L# n+ w0 c5 e5 h) Y•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 9 f5 Z! M; ?/ A. M7 y
commitments;
6 n& J0 {! y; C8 [  F" `. [- E- U•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  / b: y0 E6 Q0 S6 a% W0 N
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) X+ V  N% z/ e9 X3 m8 w! M# Fselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
2 _1 r/ c+ O6 G4 L9 n% [  i% ]•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
2 }( j+ I! ^# N- }/ N8 m•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
; Q: |0 E+ n5 t6 F" Oeffectively and positively represent the association;
: w5 _+ ^# o& J" ^5 Y1 ?! }2 e7 w" H2 ]
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
1 f3 P) g( C# ]the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# |, g7 m( i4 i) ^) p" y•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
1 c% g( l9 |3 V/ p6 s; }performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 6 C' e( A7 l8 @
the forthcoming year;  
% B, \' c# X! Y) I•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical - |, G- @9 e3 a2 j8 B& V5 p7 ]: _/ R. z
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 8 ^3 }0 r: ^. b3 t& M
YWCA Canada; and : ]& z, {4 r8 y1 f, }/ o
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
( W' @* z5 J: V4 A' d$ YForces.  & W: r+ b1 x3 @  j+ R( a* {; @2 H

Required Skills & Abilities 2 ]& r  q1 v5 O% L/ w  y
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
/ P9 Z/ n* b8 |3 e7 j, o0 v•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus - E% Q* s) Q* P, C2 G
around decisions, plans and actions; ) A! a% m7 g4 M" S* u9 }5 w. G
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ) @9 n! O# e, u" e
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
1 c4 k3 ^: J" g& M4 }3 Iand achievable with realistic timeframes;   a2 x7 S$ F3 S2 Q& F
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 3 r9 k( z! K0 b
simultaneously;
1 s2 O1 i$ d% p# N•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
; T$ C, [7 {+ w6 q8 ~" v9 Brapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
6 \9 M# D4 F& G. S$ P' X! R; Z•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and + v- k/ F* h( B* ?
•  Superior negotiation skills.

  H$ D" Q9 H' R. `# p4 f Required Professional Designation / Certification
* T' f1 ^" E8 J4 C4 G- J2 g•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
) K4 N$ ~" r* z4 b7 ]
! N: k$ |4 _! V5 b1 q7 ?* mRequired Experience
) M  A$ t& G2 R; K4 N2 i/ }•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
5 r' _+ |* f0 v1 F•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
# E# \6 T1 p& K. ?& O3 u. \4 Uabilities; 1 p) s& W+ v; N7 z- n" J8 T
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
8 I. |0 N3 _* s' b, O1 NNetworking and Fundraising;
) Q( f$ j  n5 q1 f  K' S' X- H•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ; U0 _$ Q+ D& C. M. Z2 r
and financial statements; and
3 K2 O7 _0 O  x•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ; L! P  X$ H0 F2 y( s
centered perspective.
