this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
. \- v" N, P* ^8 wEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
( n( t0 L; Z0 K4 Gsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA / _8 C" a. y/ F1 L
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 4 Y3 z: O$ K. t0 F

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ( x& O8 T& Y* e% h
execution of the YWCA Strategy ! c  D3 ?: g. h  Z8 v* L

$ L# S. ?0 x( a: D* R* F6 CSpecific responsibilities include:  % ~6 T% Z, N4 y& D$ u6 k  c

' b9 x4 g) T( C: [, u; c: {1 z•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
- f2 H5 S9 |1 Y; y+ u8 m5 E1 z: pthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
3 b( _. t3 ~. v) uthe Board of Directors;  ; ~8 l# B# J- v; [' o* _
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations , }5 L) {3 q* g/ T
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 9 F  \( s5 L- h/ K. p+ D9 e
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 3 O, F) w) [. t/ Q  E. k
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and " G. N7 r  p% A9 A* o& j( J
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
" ]% z( L3 e/ s5 X9 K4 y  I: d  lthe board;  * Q" K* a0 m1 j- [. }: _0 o
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  - y0 b) I+ E* o( o8 D' f( e5 A
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
% l! w" V- Z+ v7 s' g+ f  o/ pthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
1 A$ O2 j% ]6 W- l9 n9 ]3 y3 s/ Y, [•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
6 ~3 T/ O* n$ B! L- G: vchanging needs of the organization and community; 0 R" T  Z- @( m/ V- r
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
! r6 D7 h+ g8 x; z+ h# s; J: `commitments; , O% u/ W. @! C3 X
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  , ?" O% @+ n; X. _, h" W/ u3 U
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
% q# ~1 M* j* Sselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  % C! @# a7 e* U7 P+ v. R
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; * O. b9 V5 }/ {, `3 K% D
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
7 }8 x5 T8 X  p9 V" D5 O/ beffectively and positively represent the association; 8 |; Z7 \7 G. B* V

/ ^6 a8 q) l% q  p* @% H•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 L! o5 H7 G& @: X3 g# b% ~$ i
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
* [5 K: F* `# |1 _•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal - K3 ~( ?6 o  Z2 w9 X. t0 ~
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 3 B% g+ x: W. z- G2 z
the forthcoming year;  
. O# d) h! m' M* v( _8 z•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
% K$ a! {/ G8 B! m+ Mpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of : C( c* J2 C- W- \9 ~5 @
YWCA Canada; and
# H! t' P2 d: d. L$ R•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task - p& S8 n: f/ X$ i1 P

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 7 F+ H/ @# I  G" p7 v6 v
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
/ M3 D; O% b4 V* ^0 @around decisions, plans and actions;
- w% T; ^% f' z4 Z. Y& Z•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
- X6 p: R/ G/ m7 X" J# V4 o7 T•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 4 {, f' p! t9 U9 b8 `
and achievable with realistic timeframes; ' w! E* ?) v) l
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 5 K1 ^$ \7 g: y5 j1 w" N
simultaneously;
" X* W2 l" E. n6 v- t+ ]# B•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ; N8 j# g3 d6 H9 s' k
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
. Q2 e: s2 l, ?& g  H•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

1 T! W8 h$ {/ i* z Required Professional Designation / Certification
6 ~& w+ ]# _3 A  ]•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
( e0 F$ G! S6 O9 ~5 C5 V
, O' @6 t  X" J' b+ Y/ ?Required Experience " ?# E2 c; t, N! L9 q
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
8 l  j# ]' K3 H# M•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
' ]! M, m  f: p% n# i& k5 h4 {$ Jabilities;
" G; D* A, w, V3 K# K7 p! Z( _+ M•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
4 Y: x, ~" E1 J) a( k# C' N* kNetworking and Fundraising;
6 C( P* Y, r3 e" U•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 9 w* G" l* n! ]. U+ t7 ]' C( w
and financial statements; and 3 `. C0 P8 g2 R& [
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
- n3 Q  Z8 g8 s) S# M( v* Wcentered perspective. 6 A. H' S) G0 u* x
