1 U4 h! `2 b: C6 `) p: Rthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
/ @$ S% Z' v) w- w3 l6 VEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 3 z8 h1 A' I5 T: r' P$ q* M
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
- L& i* {& o/ C  NEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities

0 i2 Y/ {  u9 ]# C* G2 kReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and + x9 p8 Y' y2 t6 ^4 u  h4 Z9 g
execution of the YWCA Strategy 4 ^% D- A5 ^1 H

; w4 `9 q0 ]  c& {4 HSpecific responsibilities include:  
& {0 d1 @6 s- T( m2 Q # t6 V1 s! E$ J6 D4 G
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
# n$ U% ]& w" a8 [& y0 pthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
/ G, R5 ?1 j. F) g( [* J& C2 Jthe Board of Directors;  6 {1 g2 o; j4 p2 T' U5 M* ]
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 3 ~' l8 r" C7 x
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 9 ~0 g# t; f& K& R
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; , l  d2 r+ I6 O9 `3 p0 k9 W6 j5 b- C
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
4 i' l0 b3 t! @! ?7 P( A- U0 mobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
. g* m" R  c8 \) k9 u; Cthe board;  
, C5 Z4 I! |& b6 n8 V; I8 }/ Y•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
$ y, ^+ H- ~' y. y9 a2 Q•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 9 }: ~& \/ z1 N0 S7 E+ p8 y
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
& y' n; t3 c# \, W0 @$ f•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the " `, G5 b1 E; A; s5 K
changing needs of the organization and community; ' _/ I- a( S2 Z) S/ s$ U* S
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue   Z6 O9 p, i7 m" a- B
commitments; . p: K. w3 m  ]2 R8 g
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  : |& O$ }0 M$ }- p1 I+ @, [4 R/ J
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ' I4 Z# K$ A# x+ w! e  v
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
6 d/ U9 W  N8 M•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; + ?% Q/ T# l& N
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
6 r# X, ?" v  x4 C- d* Z$ [effectively and positively represent the association;
# ]0 A; C, D; O" a, l4 x, K) S' s, j: }- Y  b7 ?( ~* i5 a
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ' q% m" X9 I' @# Z6 Q
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
; ]2 E0 v1 H) p" L  o! `•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ) j% ^' N. Y) G6 s4 X
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
1 [) j+ a, ^2 I9 k3 l& [8 athe forthcoming year;  
& D5 U, \% H4 j* H1 v; \•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical # L5 h: N# r9 F4 t
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 8 m0 A/ y; g( B+ s, b
YWCA Canada; and + D4 z" p$ F$ ]2 x+ |' a+ H. M
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
% c; T' W; D  T( E  V+ vForces.

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; * Z) z* I. l$ y0 @- q$ m
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
# q+ b5 i0 _7 R; qaround decisions, plans and actions; 6 h$ ^6 p* B7 ~2 |8 w
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; * x) ]) I: K. n5 M3 R- \+ `
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
7 X; A* r4 ?. `+ N8 Kand achievable with realistic timeframes;
6 T9 |3 p  L. R. c•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 9 |) x9 d0 t) E; Q3 w  \1 z

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ! G) r4 A  E) S+ J6 @0 \/ O
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 1 d6 G% F( H5 g9 T& g
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and / c3 i, Y9 r$ R

Required Professional Designation / Certification % I! F, ]# F/ {6 X$ d
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ' P" F/ z. _4 H6 T1 l5 Z; d6 f

% v) h8 L! ~( l: r3 ^' U& r# M. \/ ARequired Experience
' k, D5 C5 ~: d! D•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
0 q; B  f- |* _' r! f/ |•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation / o  Q/ L. [! q) _, j# {
abilities;
. E9 T  n( b) \, Q/ \" f; V8 }•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, & _4 R) a+ u% w. V5 T3 W  Y
Networking and Fundraising;
5 f$ A6 R. p) q4 R4 ]* Z•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
/ r0 i, F) G( v" j$ pand financial statements; and + C( |7 y9 a+ b
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ) V. v" @) N& n# g1 ^$ }6 j
