The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ( U+ F# O5 I7 `0 E0 O+ N4 _" j3 X6 e2 u2 T
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead . u4 A7 r- E' Y# X# h
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
6 H; u$ @$ a; aEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and . H4 p% j% b- p: X- S
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ) w9 L! w6 B  m7 r' l( j: ?1 b
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities   h5 t0 X' W2 G

8 J& }" S3 ~% B/ T# {3 t. M4 T) iReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
( D. ]. a- ^9 T8 @+ z) Wexecution of the YWCA Strategy & Z& b+ x- O9 O' u' D& }9 _
2 _0 R# O. x; ^( |/ {4 g! K, a6 Z
Specific responsibilities include:  2 q9 s! a% f/ D2 G

& e& {) Y8 Y! C) p2 o, `•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of , J- w9 k, s; q+ t. C  p
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by " U# g1 F( a7 P0 L. L+ A
the Board of Directors;  ) u5 |6 r! f, R2 F! |0 }$ ~
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - p; M; E: f+ m0 }
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to " A& P! F  b& _8 L+ U9 C" u
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;   o# s# F- g, h5 c- c. s" u
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
+ n' A4 N9 Y: `( v0 P# F' Q$ Bobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by   M& j/ F2 F# t! y
the board;  
5 X0 c* W* U0 |•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
) Q3 a7 D5 w2 O- x•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ' m. m7 w+ Q* `2 R4 P' m. R, H
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
* \2 d! z- ]" j. x8 o•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
/ s0 S1 B; y: G1 P! S/ b& cchanging needs of the organization and community;
: \" o- v$ r8 x1 w" X3 J- `1 @2 i•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ( L' Q2 d, c1 ~& {. {/ d/ p
commitments; 9 ~6 P* B& q: z" g
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  & L( {5 c9 d# u' @' c
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 1 L6 T  b/ Z: }. D
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  " G& W# @0 |' c% V$ W
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
, ]( D0 `5 z3 [•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to / _$ h3 f4 Y7 b3 {' t
effectively and positively represent the association; + B2 m# q0 P1 x! p

" V0 l* c2 w5 j9 x+ L. x' ~( O5 V•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- t* e. Y1 u8 E% R2 a! {/ v; Rthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
6 H* e" b$ ~7 x( ]8 Y•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ) R/ q) Q+ S! R. d3 V, h
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 5 D3 O2 H/ y3 t9 [: z
the forthcoming year;  ( Z$ E# {1 v; i: o( H7 b
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
1 O' T* h8 `& E% Ipractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
3 f! A. A/ B, b) |8 c" z, gYWCA Canada; and % P' i% g4 ]4 q
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
, J: p. `+ a; k* v6 o% d0 ]1 mForces.

+ U# u# C" y! j8 _/ SRequired Skills & Abilities * u! f0 ?# d# k  I6 m  Y& K0 l+ ~
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; # m: ^6 f! S6 H+ n0 e3 k
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 9 @5 ~% M$ j. h; u* D5 D  O8 `
around decisions, plans and actions; 3 U: R" i$ H# V% S' {9 l
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
# s" d2 N% u* E  U4 L2 C/ n% Z•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
+ c2 Y8 a- [' U5 G7 N# Tand achievable with realistic timeframes; # U5 b; G+ t( o. \# h
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 7 ~3 k2 z4 [8 V$ d

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 5 ]7 f2 A# M( m, o. f

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ! A! x8 o: l( f3 v1 R

Required Professional Designation / Certification
' M) D* Q! I' e•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 5 H4 z0 c7 W) U0 l7 ~* V

6 b1 B$ \5 g3 o, oRequired Experience : P/ C# \+ N/ j: }' ]& D
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , w& }; R/ M3 z4 j6 w6 A5 _
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
; P) A$ P( @& U2 ^$ Jabilities;
4 R3 y0 B# Z, ?! ]1 B•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
( z) y3 t& `; O! s+ E+ DNetworking and Fundraising;   D3 Z# r; T8 j. n' ]
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting . ?2 K. T: }0 i5 f0 ?
and financial statements; and
8 Y" d% k" W! L•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 3 W1 ^1 A& ]8 M- `" p8 F
centered perspective.
