this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
! r, z1 A! v, ?0 `5 f' ]" uEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
' \$ S) Y  e4 ^4 q+ Zsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
& }& @1 n% G/ p. s% J# @Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

) g' b% m) r4 {3 ~3 JReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 8 m% D- \! F: s/ e4 D! x( j0 o  X
execution of the YWCA Strategy
+ b# ~" ~7 D; G
; Z6 l7 ^( N/ E' |$ bSpecific responsibilities include:  
0 p# ?' j' q% o1 @9 G) A# F0 K
3 e- {4 f1 _$ [) A4 R•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
4 p4 D, _* m* i: n; E* Athe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
* z* }& u6 z- V& m; pthe Board of Directors;  
! m" @9 B+ ^" X- ?% n, {/ E•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations / B) R5 v' ?' r; y. z) C- T1 q
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 1 N2 b; s6 r; N
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 5 u& K) M6 j9 R6 r+ P
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
, n! k0 N1 e+ Zobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
% q( W$ q" w$ p' C+ Qthe board;  6 k- p% e: f1 X; a0 a" v
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  7 C1 N3 ?, i, R' A) J
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
1 W- i* q2 V& Q5 Ythe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ( B; c5 p) {$ H# W9 s0 V$ ]
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the & E, o' _4 y& g" W7 P( T
changing needs of the organization and community; 8 ?6 ]( h$ b2 d
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
0 H  a) c& p& v9 z% ~commitments; 8 s9 _% J: l2 a5 \6 E/ _
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  9 T+ j6 |% x9 ~5 e) X$ C
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 3 |2 T$ x; C' O# A! V$ Z
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  9 v3 O# c5 x. P7 h2 O. J
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ' I, W3 s4 x  W8 I2 W# \  {
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 7 \" j8 \& \" \; @
effectively and positively represent the association; ) |- X0 l; [# G7 L) |" x, J
. T, L" a# m/ t8 d$ b6 C# u+ H
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 9 t; D* q& J% L& _3 G! Z
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  / x4 G5 c9 B' |# `' Q0 J- Q( j3 _
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ j6 j4 {# y8 `' {9 J: eperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 8 s8 C9 m5 `3 |* I6 G  S
the forthcoming year;  & _+ D0 O0 y4 X9 D
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical % a5 M5 ^: i. p3 {- ^
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
4 d5 P7 }0 s" E: r" @. L0 H0 |YWCA Canada; and
+ T4 S6 m( J9 R% S0 Z! z•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
7 X. o3 {/ I3 ]( k; T+ ]Forces.  # O8 K- w4 B( d& f# Q& I- K, M

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
- I1 w7 y. X" ?•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
: E1 ?" E( A! ]+ Y8 }/ S% Caround decisions, plans and actions; ; O0 ]5 y% @9 j/ f+ r$ U  Y% t
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; " D/ I6 O  B; F6 i3 Y7 f
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 1 |0 M1 F! `) n9 F9 n7 z
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
: H, k" ~0 `, }4 F1 j9 @•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build $ |% H! Q6 k8 f* x7 t9 J
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
0 `; O6 F! k; C% R* }8 O; x# Z•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
. j. L& i5 w# R3 M: v•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification , E# P- D% \0 ]' @
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. # R# ]9 F2 e# q5 h% i
$ c" c0 @3 _2 b4 `: ]# k
Required Experience ! C# B! t6 z/ D5 n& m4 _
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 S8 D1 P& J2 l* x) w•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation $ W1 C- v9 ^; g& x! e: a; R
abilities; 4 u! s& o: s0 U( Z
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 0 G4 P/ T9 h0 j* K% ~
Networking and Fundraising; 3 x# `: Y  m& N& i
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ; L$ |: `  Y* m4 m* A; A, I
and financial statements; and * m1 }* e4 `9 j/ F! @
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
% r0 o0 @7 U' a- z# ~0 V! G6 M/ pcentered perspective.
