The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
7 _; v' x! L" P) ]1 W* B- }Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
' h- a2 |/ \/ P, Sexecution of the YWCA Strategy 8 g5 r, v. O* W5 H0 e; ?; k
! L! u8 l0 ^- k& Y
Specific responsibilities include:  7 F% m5 E+ H9 r7 _; v% V1 T- [8 O
- F3 F" \2 C1 U  E& b/ X
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ' D2 Y5 U9 c' M* S- z; Y
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 u' o/ r! I. N& B: D; o
the Board of Directors;  
$ a3 `3 _6 s9 n7 ?/ O$ U•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
8 m* F. F- w. ^including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
* r" S  s% |9 [0 Jenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; / C: j0 R4 r% o6 f1 l; [2 X
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 7 M2 S+ U* f6 d9 l# F( @
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
1 `- k3 r0 ]# W7 @# Y  |/ u$ i: cthe board;    g; g( P5 ~  J9 T; }2 o$ f' }
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  U4 l( E. w7 m# `8 Q•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 3 k1 a+ o* B& N) R* l3 @- s$ j
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
, J' b# L9 a8 @- d* A! D) i•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 0 A' T) e0 p# Z; K3 ~6 D! j
changing needs of the organization and community; 6 a: T; A# e3 Z5 [& k
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 2 w! G# Y% R) Z" A4 [
commitments;   |% C  j& s6 D# D( {1 l
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  3 h7 r; Q% S6 @; O/ o) ]
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective $ L) v( t) i2 M8 i9 {. U
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
, l! F, f( t  M4 `% n•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 4 V: T; {! q8 ~2 V5 ^5 P
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
8 t6 S5 O0 a5 F! c8 e* ?effectively and positively represent the association; ( w! w* l1 a0 [3 T; N! x: C5 ~

' `2 k5 u3 u( X) L: K•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
: ~% ]5 m4 `: R) }6 Ethe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ' j5 z' X8 V- k% `" a
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 }  b2 e  ~+ [0 ]0 Y/ d" Q
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
7 T, x3 M; C$ r6 \" v  y' z" mthe forthcoming year;  . Z8 J* v3 o/ @  G
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical   q; v3 \' z4 d1 Q5 N) ?0 {
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of / j' e4 N0 _# X5 A2 j1 ~
YWCA Canada; and , H7 h+ \( n3 u$ ~
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
+ A0 {) ?8 f! P5 D) [. k* RForces.  ; a; ]+ I/ s* W; l

  h6 F6 _1 U$ C' v! `•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 8 I  M7 n: ^0 ~( B+ A8 W
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
5 x1 O+ g: |- D! G1 G, Baround decisions, plans and actions;
/ B& c1 g* _. q7 A: K/ k•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
1 Q: ^5 U+ k& {2 \/ Z9 G•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
* o7 ~- L+ `( M. j3 |  b- S+ \  S6 ]and achievable with realistic timeframes; : w5 j' t8 R4 a
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
% w* g: Q$ D+ Z7 c  u9 q- psimultaneously; 7 `/ ?' g% o0 w* y- f( F" I) N; ?
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build - c% t. `1 F+ ~' W* g- }7 g" y
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
" m+ H' _, B- \•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ; y. P/ ~/ J( c0 O
•  Superior negotiation skills. + y8 o( M6 u0 c9 Z7 ^6 u0 P, A

4 F; r% T+ R; x6 e5 k/ t% F) H9 o+ p Required Professional Designation / Certification
& i/ P' d1 y  U; E- }4 C, w•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 A8 s! m* |) J' o! y  E- p7 [1 Q3 Z! f

; O) `7 {7 m( u" `: GRequired Experience
7 ?) L6 P. _0 n1 l•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
- N6 J1 g& W- n: w•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation : C7 i; I" F) Q- G% R
abilities; + J' W. n5 d- }$ A) ?
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
# C* j1 o/ q0 K! r# d; pNetworking and Fundraising; * A5 e5 D; C% N8 S& C
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting / T% S) j9 {) b7 U4 r
and financial statements; and
9 U5 \. Z$ b* C5 A•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ; V- E. f# ]5 `" ^' r) A  r9 p) ~
centered perspective.
