The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 5 X4 h5 h  C) A% e  U1 `" M; n
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
, v1 n+ i4 A; I. }this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
( }3 W4 x$ w  Q2 D5 F. O0 x* REdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 4 p6 K6 z& j# O) [- K5 W
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
0 e9 U8 e8 T2 YEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities " B/ D' F" ?. z5 j8 `

; V! n0 f; ^* _# h& m: QReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
0 r) Z2 E' v  `' Lexecution of the YWCA Strategy
' A* g1 Z8 K' O6 _$ u- E! O
/ ^2 W/ S9 F  ]5 ]  s  zSpecific responsibilities include:  
- q! W; J, Q& [. g3 E2 j
/ I/ ^9 j8 O; L) J8 ?" K% `# Y•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of - w! Y3 }( J. w  E* \# b
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 9 H/ y5 I0 X' k4 \
the Board of Directors;  
& H0 _( }" S2 L5 T/ ]4 v3 r•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ; v5 h0 K, B) ?! {
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 8 o6 ?' b1 ^. `* d# L, K4 ]
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ( ?8 _3 K: t1 R! ^
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
. ~0 {" b! @3 Aobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ _4 G$ C, K% {; E1 ythe board;  / r- m$ I5 i0 `8 ~; P
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  6 B8 z0 m7 ^/ i6 t9 b6 E, a+ c1 Y$ ]
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 0 j3 v) C) r" ]0 C8 j" s1 V
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; , ?4 _- a' u+ e: o1 p
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / [6 W5 p4 y: ~* t5 s
changing needs of the organization and community; - |& z7 D6 l! _/ [: N* R
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
0 ]$ ~( m+ r/ s- ?; @commitments;
$ i& g5 \% w8 Z, E•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
/ e+ P- t. \2 Z1 m0 x$ n$ [" b•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective : |7 P) |+ ^8 D" g. |
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  - O3 q' D& p2 D: r  R
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # g' O' x3 x* C; Y
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
( P* d# [1 i' h9 |6 r* zeffectively and positively represent the association;

: I* m4 n; X: d5 w•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ( l6 Q5 J  U5 t3 j/ b2 h
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
4 _% ]8 n/ \9 I! q8 o8 Y0 l•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
! W" S0 N: z6 @7 B: Q! p8 ]performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
' K8 z, A. C$ y5 o2 z1 ^7 y8 D+ Bthe forthcoming year;  
! L3 f4 J4 ~8 S2 E7 Q- o. d/ z9 r•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ( S5 H4 R! @8 A0 x7 A7 h- |
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
4 ~! g$ W5 w/ w) j3 z1 d# DYWCA Canada; and ! Y5 {0 n, C8 G$ r, i( l  H
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 2 J- l5 r3 {1 D
Forces.

& w  W( W1 q+ S9 _' u4 o; fRequired Skills & Abilities
( }! E5 Q- W1 S4 e; w•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 2 i) m) q% \+ e: g  a
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 4 ?1 o! s; L* U. T2 R( ~
around decisions, plans and actions; ; y  X0 G$ {3 W: ]# I3 I% }' X
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 7 r* \0 k2 f1 y. e
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
7 L: _7 r4 F3 p% _and achievable with realistic timeframes;
. e/ X0 N! j( b$ a% P•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! L% w, @& K8 T& }; P/ J
simultaneously;
( c, N4 b  G/ P•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 O2 R6 v2 S; A! o) M# ~
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; - [3 ]& F, x* w9 v5 M
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and $ E5 X& v1 \) k3 ?0 I

; u# D" `  r0 S9 B Required Professional Designation / Certification
( ]; w5 R! [; _) L•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
5 D2 k* X* O! z8 X& U* j: d5 e' X 5 v# o6 w7 L% m  W( D
Required Experience
" z9 j; u( m0 h•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;   e# f- N& `8 K5 C; `, F
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
' q0 p5 i7 z- D# @- ?- Babilities;
$ I5 t3 {6 k3 q2 b- s+ o•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) t, c1 r8 {+ `' a' |
Networking and Fundraising; : {, {* v9 ?  u- T2 y4 k
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting , b5 A# B$ e! N
and financial statements; and
" X6 [. e9 w/ ^& P/ o•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
6 q( U. L! Y5 [1 Ucentered perspective.
