The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic + E. {+ m) v1 |' g) g; c
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
# b# R+ d' w+ G' U7 \this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 3 w" f& X, v1 i+ V9 `5 S3 h
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 7 m3 l, g* S7 g" d% f0 p
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA : Z5 ~2 L, B: J

Responsibilities
# I& X) i' z" x# x1 M! ]9 l% p
1 A1 s3 S/ g" RReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ( C/ |$ [$ S8 x) q# X
execution of the YWCA Strategy   U$ R( J; S/ y4 l  G  O. J+ Q; l4 w9 s

- T7 h% v0 i+ s# M8 r5 o$ r8 r+ C. iSpecific responsibilities include:  8 h; e9 i* |3 I# j# W$ [

  u7 A, m4 r" c* j( P•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
; D5 W0 T7 {& Z# z) R7 Ythe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by # Z4 w% X( @9 p: ]( x8 n
the Board of Directors;    t* f9 Y! R! y, \& c1 D
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations $ U5 j/ Q  ]' ]5 ~$ t
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # s- T# t% o3 `' ]$ X) W
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
' c% a) ~, @/ ~. F; u8 ^  v2 \•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
; ~+ U# Y, v! ~objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
+ U- |) e+ {# C% othe board;  2 u  X- v- [- Y6 U( }: _. l6 U. |
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
5 n% q8 \, j1 t+ r( G) ]•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 1 @2 A1 i/ o4 O: @* f
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
& o& x  }4 x$ z•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
# ?8 ~2 ^& f7 o: t* m9 _changing needs of the organization and community; # j6 r# C! U( l+ @" K# c
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
8 i" Y$ _& \! m) V$ m$ F) o2 ncommitments;
. `& I. A8 x- W2 S•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
: x6 m( F" S* t, K5 A$ C•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
. c/ F3 h3 J, l5 S0 Tselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
6 S# [0 U. H$ o) F$ @8 C) ]•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
9 r2 Z, A9 _1 M•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ' O( ^: B8 J( T- f# d9 y
effectively and positively represent the association;
' m. K+ y6 S" Z8 ~" ]3 w
0 T. \" ~  b  `4 P•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ) t0 P. R3 q! V8 w+ q9 M+ U& l; a
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
6 R  V' b+ a1 b6 e•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 f- d( H% J  j1 ]! ?  Qperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
7 F, O' Q* V9 ]9 Ethe forthcoming year;  / ?/ a3 k4 ]$ f  C% }8 S
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ) a" ?+ S' D; q: n' i! \. H/ c
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
) b4 P8 f0 {7 k  aYWCA Canada; and   s+ d2 x, M! Q# G9 ~5 t, u, y
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 8 o& P+ B( A0 ?2 P  R
Forces.

- _0 z3 P6 S( l! U, yRequired Skills & Abilities , E% P) X% }' J
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 0 h" i3 U+ D* [8 E1 S/ M$ J$ a
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
# T7 A5 c9 a  u" Paround decisions, plans and actions; 3 C/ m. T* s; ?* t
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; , L- b& ?  N( O5 }& O  s- |
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
# g! S6 K) [- u- Tand achievable with realistic timeframes;
1 r0 j* e% Z5 {( F2 M% U  \•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ( h0 [3 R. O7 ~' U( T6 z
simultaneously;
3 x+ G4 A3 F' h2 }- u+ N•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build / c3 z* w. w1 X% ^: E( [
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; + D$ w$ _4 T+ p# h
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
0 k, }  Y" W) z1 r: A0 p+ C# u•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
; g& Y0 B7 S5 Q/ \( c•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. - a! f, w1 D7 q: g) J0 F# O8 X

/ l5 V- L; _9 c4 fRequired Experience
3 ^2 p# Y4 C) H•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; $ L% f1 `3 I! w& L& N8 f
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 1 k+ \1 v8 u: A1 R. L- U% D
abilities;
8 _( f6 p1 p1 a* L+ A•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
7 u  L' D" a; A6 U2 LNetworking and Fundraising;
8 t. H' p$ S, W0 g& ~9 ?•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
8 x! O+ T2 S, F, Rand financial statements; and : W' S  I! T0 q+ W
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
2 X, I- B5 B. w' u/ kcentered perspective.
