Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and " I9 f$ N9 c3 @( }; [
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

; i+ j6 J0 O9 n! G3 g6 r) AReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 3 {) _8 D) X$ C9 H8 \3 [5 X
execution of the YWCA Strategy - n8 M; i' c# G: B/ c; r
  T3 P% U" u7 v1 O5 L
Specific responsibilities include:  
+ N0 B: `1 i& m) [/ M
& b$ G( I) H7 C•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
- }8 k& L' [4 r: t4 y  J0 Wthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
, E% n/ A& `/ Bthe Board of Directors;  
! m' }5 M: ]9 r4 r. v; _/ r2 l•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
: n3 j( n1 F* B) F0 ]  `$ \including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 7 q# H; ?" V% G: ]- L
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
8 \  q1 p) `7 E& c: L: L•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 2 c7 |/ [, P% w  f
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
3 B2 ?( v4 f5 [  z7 P9 ^the board;  & h- W3 r+ A, z9 S. g1 D3 T
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
  `8 J- A$ M! }, v2 G4 C( D•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
9 M' i( i7 `( h) cthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ) q7 c' w8 ^8 t/ k% A" U
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
( @- z  ?3 {1 E+ Qchanging needs of the organization and community;
6 w( E/ |+ f( I•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
' l" v& g2 i: Hcommitments; 3 d7 |* J, t0 X2 {  ~% L$ E) \) q
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;    `5 R  @* C/ Y
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
' }; O; m' Y: O8 Y- D8 x/ n! |selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  : a/ I6 O# j' _4 F7 U/ Q
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
8 o/ [' r0 g6 X( t' v/ o•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
6 W/ z5 `  B! j. Z3 weffectively and positively represent the association;
! G8 B) h6 S2 y/ l1 f2 j6 R* t4 W0 H9 t. p( R6 e% M
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 k% H/ o4 W0 D0 q8 `, c; S
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
1 n/ f0 P, n' l•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 ^1 c1 R* a9 G& `$ g1 o
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED - q: ?8 {' B( f1 X3 [+ Y. e: `( }
the forthcoming year;  ! o' f) e1 n, ~" p
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
1 |# r$ U4 w: b4 @) D: H6 Rpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ) e5 }& x- @# x: w
YWCA Canada; and
: @! s3 c, _, d  H( [' E3 @•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
* t# ?4 R7 ]5 E* C' E6 O' G; B2 SForces.  . w' ^4 w, q9 z  P( e' D" i+ V
  
. L+ Q4 O) J  c" CRequired Skills & Abilities
) u" r, y$ g9 `! ^' a•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
7 o6 n8 N' h& k- F3 \•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 7 u( J3 k0 @+ j0 |& g7 _9 \
around decisions, plans and actions;
8 O4 T+ r& a' q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; . D0 r  [" Y5 |% g; o+ W
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
! L$ |. w% V$ ], N9 e" q4 ?and achievable with realistic timeframes;
' w* l7 R0 V; d4 b5 `/ v1 H•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 9 f2 p: N/ s8 m: s" H& s$ h
simultaneously; 5 Y' I; B% L/ w+ ]6 h, o3 o
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
6 b$ ^) D, p1 _% Y+ ?' B- }( U2 Drapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 4 S3 J9 Z2 e* T2 U  z
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
, J& N% b& P7 c  b' W' M•  Superior negotiation skills.

•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. & g% P& `& u0 L

; [" F8 N" X5 ZRequired Experience % }4 ?6 ?$ W5 h4 G% J5 i
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; , }4 P9 P# Y) i2 ^4 k# {
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
9 T' @# {' s- N+ O& w$ ]; wabilities; 9 X3 ?# v& _* b2 {; j
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ' T& Y' A) Z& V/ U3 J" t- ~, a
Networking and Fundraising; " r3 ?9 o7 L/ [5 D0 s
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
* M5 H6 K; ^( O5 X0 f$ A5 dand financial statements; and 6 r0 ^/ C) @6 t6 ?: f
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
