The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
5 J: s9 ]1 D6 U2 B7 p) x. d3 Ythinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead - m  W% {( ~/ P, Y$ ]9 q6 i
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
3 f, v3 L! p/ I9 a2 b9 ^' u' \9 ?Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 4 \' F4 V6 ?+ `2 k" x+ _- ]. W
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

, L0 }, i5 K0 pReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and . `7 W- Z1 `* i* p& u
execution of the YWCA Strategy

* L% i- h' r& |6 Q. }; x& z; _" [Specific responsibilities include:  & q8 F5 V. J# P( f. `# u+ E

* Y) D# ?- h0 A•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ! S6 F% n6 ~% f7 O( E
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
' [7 f" s6 V2 ]5 r$ ]: q; g2 Mthe Board of Directors;  6 N( y' T( ^" _: v( h
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations ' S8 Y: Y5 k6 @' _7 |% o& C( s( P+ Q
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
. V' K+ R6 ?! V6 h  }4 lenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
2 a7 }" I% c: z7 U5 {* }( {9 h2 S•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and : r5 q3 s' K3 @! d' h! f! M# f
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ! N5 D2 h9 t3 F; N* G2 |
the board;  
" N. u7 E( j( u4 t$ e•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
* k) W9 v$ y6 Q3 @; M) k( x•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
+ L& `3 h% `  |7 e+ Othe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;   D, P% {+ T; f' u% v/ g; M6 V4 l
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the   k2 \8 w3 d  Z  _! O6 P
changing needs of the organization and community;
- v' ^5 N4 ~0 s* p•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
1 y) |7 M. ^8 R9 a. Ncommitments;
" ?) F$ I1 n. O9 }4 b! E4 G•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
3 j$ f* Z" _$ i5 F4 L3 Y•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective # j9 w% \2 v- |4 n9 W; I
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
2 T: y; \5 p  C1 o" Z6 w' |* r•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
; `+ b. Y9 g0 u) j' ?•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
9 m% h$ S; F2 Y6 O" B& P. Heffectively and positively represent the association; . S5 o3 T8 |9 C0 i8 I

% e$ Z. W0 D# M# t1 `•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ( U8 p  U! K* Q: h8 k! c
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  4 \! p2 F' m/ ]4 a+ y! C# t
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
2 F3 b( E. g/ \performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
) g9 I  ]1 n# X. q6 u2 }& Dthe forthcoming year;  
# A8 o- x: k  t3 h4 `1 p•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
5 U. n: o0 Z" `! \, S( Zpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 7 O* s' v/ X5 h6 R: O0 X
YWCA Canada; and
% l" o8 H6 |$ Q& v1 i4 D+ B•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
; ?) T; w& e0 _8 B0 B7 RForces.  
; t2 P$ K" z1 h$ O0 c  ! |# x( \* G; Q* n/ z. ^
Required Skills & Abilities : n' I& ^) i; D$ _
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
1 [0 s  D# T% r8 ?. m4 e•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ; E: J, u# n3 G$ `; \$ w
around decisions, plans and actions;
3 F% P  i( ^  Q# M•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
- x; R" B' I1 }% O8 g7 A4 S•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable $ N8 }$ q: ]) F. ]
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
0 z* `& \, L, q/ T+ u+ C•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
7 y7 a, M& |- ?6 R* V$ V: ksimultaneously; , h0 K- [& |  F$ a& s
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ' ^7 O$ b! t7 Q5 h/ n* H5 F
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
) Y5 O! a, S$ m•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
0 ]+ Z7 ~/ n5 I•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
: h/ l& a. x2 \- p# G4 @•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
9 N& r6 v& z; M+ W6 U , k5 S& x. U! ~" _
Required Experience
4 U" q4 Y3 q1 z! U•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ' P5 A  N+ u# X1 S* A/ N( L- p
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
0 G$ o# W  z+ O4 k  J% Pabilities;
* w5 s+ e# s" Z•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, % w+ i# q; I- I
Networking and Fundraising; - P7 M4 i2 Q& w! d$ i: G
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
5 i5 @% g% R" u1 E/ z: k9 Band financial statements; and # d$ W  y5 }. V+ a4 n
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 T8 n3 d; h3 d1 O, p% Zcentered perspective. 6 S: E  e5 N9 x* R, z
