The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

( K& `) I+ S/ d* Y: S5 Gthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 0 d$ T0 D& H. m$ T+ N; I; v
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and , z, O* }8 r7 _# a8 k: n# G, ^9 j
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and   u) Q* I/ t, L+ f1 \4 Q8 i
execution of the YWCA Strategy
3 `" S* q8 l0 ]5 S
5 N3 V3 m$ w( `- S9 P* K6 T) v* _, LSpecific responsibilities include:  5 Y0 q6 t) W9 W2 ]  V) v
$ Y3 _. I% {5 O
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
; o% c: i* \" M9 Z2 l+ A- d, b# b, h- ?the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
/ `8 y6 x8 p/ n5 P1 H! D/ Sthe Board of Directors;  ( g: A! j2 @" J- k) B; T8 _; U
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
3 I. O8 U0 @! `2 t* y# d' E% w1 c2 nincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
+ U0 i+ O* o  g$ G4 n5 \% u0 k# f, genable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
% M# }2 {2 M; ~! ^•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 4 o1 W& ^" p- j  [6 p
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
/ _- U8 `$ ~! Fthe board;  
7 a) P$ a# m; h•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
5 u7 E: y( S! w/ C: R# m+ ?( p. T•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
, W! A% G% a) u  Y; Lthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
; k/ x6 \6 t' D7 `; r8 n•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
: T6 L( W# }5 Y* lchanging needs of the organization and community; : o6 W( S/ X" R9 V6 D# p
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
& e$ H. x% |9 ?; x2 Y" v( Qcommitments;
# X) {0 o; H" D( c+ p. G9 P•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ; U8 B8 H; M! h! o" ^" ~
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
0 Z& g- @$ R. d* M: r2 D6 Qselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
: S  L9 C1 B' p5 n) m5 M( p•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
& s, L) d) N7 j6 W5 B( Q4 u3 ~•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 6 _; s: E# b" q# f7 ^' i. p
effectively and positively represent the association; , H- z, n7 G; _
" G3 i* t! i& j% I7 {( D
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
8 H" l) }  C% J7 `# v; Athe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
/ a( f" d1 ?2 j' J( U, @& g* M•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal # y+ U) O7 Q( \' _/ P7 F
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED : T3 T- A- w7 ]* ]2 }9 p4 d$ @
the forthcoming year;  
& V" t; o% @' Z/ j) R# |•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
' K( k# `1 J. x$ [  u& {2 rpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! ]- b/ [; r* X1 a1 [7 F& t  t
YWCA Canada; and 7 ]5 O/ \1 {9 e! b* ?  @
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
5 s: a$ ?$ _& gForces.  
! G" l/ ?1 G4 I7 G5 C5 F  
7 L5 a; q9 I2 w* T5 iRequired Skills & Abilities ; d9 l; u6 S. u& s3 f2 w
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 5 J9 i7 I: Q5 a! z% T
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
* w0 l5 J: v8 p: d0 U) S$ ]around decisions, plans and actions;
  B; y8 L" }+ L! M•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
- Q! C0 \* q3 t; K: X•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
$ @& W. s/ ~* A; ~8 gand achievable with realistic timeframes;
2 L/ i2 F( B; }% o* d' V1 k9 n; c2 D•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
0 F$ F& ]# A0 j: dsimultaneously;
& j; u7 e" {- N1 h0 o•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 5 X2 x" M; }0 ^  ~
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
* R1 r+ i: M6 M& D# W( T1 s•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 6 ~/ O$ F9 O* O/ T9 S! q* O) _
•  Superior negotiation skills. : U# K& q/ m9 Q8 I

# r9 h: B8 Q: M. b Required Professional Designation / Certification 3 @) }% |, M4 V2 k
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.   M. v. y7 N8 i+ S( |" e
; a# k* i9 b3 m  M4 T9 [# L
Required Experience
  p: E6 g9 i; `$ h7 s•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ( ?# e' J3 ?9 I* k) [
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ! B& J2 b& F7 ^& f5 N4 g, t( x
abilities; ; A7 r0 p' a- x, \0 d
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
3 I3 @5 l5 K+ R7 G% ZNetworking and Fundraising; 5 |7 p: b( C  K7 s! U. I- |4 U& B. q
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 0 ^) g" z* @) N  A  r7 w3 x( W/ d
and financial statements; and
, k1 g; e" ?0 E•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 3 Z2 K8 c- h( d" G1 Y: M5 Z
centered perspective.
