The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 5 Y+ v# M8 @( Y& e* Q
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
/ h0 |/ c8 E, x8 Kthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
5 ^) |& G4 u6 L( j7 d+ I1 A7 _Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
4 t4 n" w2 ?  a! c2 W5 nsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ) k) c$ {: j: m7 F' S

( u/ T" `8 l8 a, N" L  a) `2 HReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
# A  w% h& t. ~$ aexecution of the YWCA Strategy

$ k! z, l+ z9 x+ pSpecific responsibilities include:  
0 J% o) [9 S( O; d1 `4 S9 k: x& v/ _9 S
7 A4 n! s5 `. ^# i+ P! p2 x•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
) H: h" Q" J4 wthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by " Q' e$ R6 Y; @) i5 C
the Board of Directors;  : Z3 Z3 `, g8 J
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
8 s0 _: u% T' b4 qincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 4 ^. n( c& E% a
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; % R3 \* W8 }4 m: u, _
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and % v% o" J, y* r- N: P1 M2 I
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
( N' H0 m( |2 m5 E% x) ?7 q$ Ythe board;  
8 A3 T" l: z: T' s7 v( I* r8 w& L7 Z•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
, ~# K! z8 Q5 u( e* ]  ~•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
  k- [* N2 a" E; pthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; . L7 P7 z0 P+ b' Z2 c
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
) X, m: A$ ?. m  ]3 gchanging needs of the organization and community;
7 k1 {' P$ h  _) u" C•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
4 X# }8 q5 K4 c, ~3 n1 A$ xcommitments; * F1 W" J% q% K* W0 M2 _3 e6 M
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  # M/ E) L* k+ i( d5 F2 Q3 _
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective   @! i  J, I0 t( Y$ q
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
1 t% ]. M% }! ?# d& R* \$ l•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
/ p" t+ n0 m9 V•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to " _0 L, r0 h& d& Q
effectively and positively represent the association; 0 h& h% V. w5 o) x5 f/ @
  F5 r2 i* s4 H" _& }
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
& |5 y- T4 M1 X0 R" f0 q4 [the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# s! D9 z0 `6 j$ M/ o- a•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ; C+ p1 Y8 X/ z; c; {! S, c3 B( D( x
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ) O! w. F( L5 J
the forthcoming year;  - S4 l  T# h7 B; w4 {- N. ^
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical & J: j5 M4 n' l- Y. Z) X; a
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of + c7 z! |+ f- V7 L
YWCA Canada; and 3 n# h, i* W6 F( y6 B  S1 M8 M5 i
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
* D) ]2 t* _# P0 uForces.

Required Skills & Abilities
* H3 y% p7 \0 I: G1 n0 g' {•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
# P; }$ e- D, ^7 r•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
+ {4 [. b# ~9 }0 ]& X& ~around decisions, plans and actions;
" E" U4 s6 l4 ^/ w7 u$ j4 w1 j* ~. ^•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; , @+ b6 n8 p; r# W
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 8 j' Q6 d7 m8 Q9 ^  H9 c+ _/ X
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
; _! _5 m8 t: Y2 z4 E•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
6 l0 ~* Q3 a- Z: @simultaneously;
/ o/ l; [, ^. m* U•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build . X5 T* h0 C6 S
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

' \" I4 z$ r+ v' K•  Superior negotiation skills. 0 L$ `; m1 q( t& u4 n6 X

0 J6 A( u9 K1 J; W9 \  | Required Professional Designation / Certification
+ _# I; t( A% E# h3 y; J* j•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
) _/ a( n5 ~$ O  C ' @$ e0 {9 f& ?8 P3 G- m
Required Experience # F" ]# ~" u0 _# p  E+ B  ]+ H% s
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
- h1 ]0 y, n" _•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 Q  F* T* ]  j% R3 K* p
abilities; 2 V. l- H) _/ v! B
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
5 L( [9 \# b2 x6 X5 fNetworking and Fundraising; 7 U; W/ h: q- f/ n& H
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 7 A& h" v) k7 f( V2 n
and financial statements; and ; D7 O! L$ U0 Q1 W9 E' ]& F8 E
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
, p0 Q. u) c7 ]9 |# [% ycentered perspective. , p. }$ q0 e0 d! g( L& D& u5 b
