The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 4 }+ |& D' Z2 N  O
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
, R: h5 q( Y  p! ?: Sthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ! G( b+ S2 Z( v% v2 [9 k
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ! _" {3 w3 K. R. U
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
+ I: Z. i; f6 AEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
% _# o/ G6 T* I: h : |8 c( F4 F* d8 p  q$ p. o
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 5 Q4 J2 s  l6 T& L8 |4 Q/ _
execution of the YWCA Strategy
& Q% @: ]" O. |
8 C! `" k# Z$ Q2 bSpecific responsibilities include:  . s; a' B; F3 X+ r7 o
4 ^/ n8 p* e1 d
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
! a6 t  D# U% p( m0 W& lthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ! P& }' m& ]$ O$ P8 s
the Board of Directors;  : l/ i% w8 v' a4 o  G8 @- Z* N
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 1 j" n1 M( j' H8 }0 m# o: V
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & R2 j4 r* R% u8 a
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
% D) O' C% G3 \7 }$ E•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 1 h6 p  {4 P% U, x( m
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
# M* t" z4 u6 y' Bthe board;  
) M  w, W0 A4 `& D" S1 G3 x: y•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# T. I) \/ Y' E" t•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
% G1 i2 W# b- u( F# i& S/ B; Athe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
( u, G  M2 f. a2 Q: B5 q+ `7 I•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ' E2 f6 s4 R* C3 l! \* a! k" ~
changing needs of the organization and community;
* G- e0 q8 s( [1 ~•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 4 B3 }4 k4 `: [  u9 z% r9 G9 K6 E
commitments;
7 W$ l2 k7 g% h' ?0 n. g9 l•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  # b2 q6 _& Y1 \% ]
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
( x" ]0 E# D% Aselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
( V$ l' i& D. N; f7 n$ ~  Q•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
3 v1 H" [1 |( e7 {" d6 d% |•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
6 y" o! z! [8 ]- ]+ u6 _- Seffectively and positively represent the association;

* y" m4 X: ]! v/ x! x3 [•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
9 K6 C% |6 `" {! Wthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  * \; t/ n& u6 \  k+ x1 L
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal , c9 x8 ^# u* L. M; {6 ]
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
& s& p* l1 l- s. f" @. V2 U9 |; dthe forthcoming year;  
" w% D$ J- I1 b0 S•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical . V' k! u' w7 z
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
, i4 M6 V. ~( s/ S* ZYWCA Canada; and
3 M  E( r3 s0 K6 S) C$ y) X! \•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
% W4 f* |7 c  C: i. y0 B0 |Forces.  0 K0 c5 S  K, i% F! D

Required Skills & Abilities
" x$ Q/ z4 `4 X7 V4 J& t. S( h•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ( y7 f' k. L' x# V' X" z4 e# B
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ' \. h% d1 A/ }8 h
around decisions, plans and actions; 7 X5 C5 Q* ]( r  s3 v
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
- B& c5 J: E& Y* _4 ^! q0 i•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 7 F$ t# ?6 y" G. _. ~- a
and achievable with realistic timeframes; " l! Z: g- g7 d/ i4 E
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ! S9 n; I* z# s, z* p
simultaneously; ' U9 h: v# k0 J0 a/ y& j" X1 y; T
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
: p, ]9 v' n1 V" }% f6 Zrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; # @5 U/ ~- q) z
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification
& x$ \  _1 ?0 |1 J3 P, `# @  U•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. : G8 \3 z2 v7 i. f9 j' I# y
6 w7 F% n6 c- I5 Q# j9 B) ~
Required Experience
3 ^) v5 T* A  _) v3 B; _•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
8 G  f1 a* l$ Z2 r( k•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
2 |6 E6 g% }5 r4 k( r7 Tabilities;
* t# S0 a! C% w•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
0 R) R& f2 p3 P7 v0 SNetworking and Fundraising; : t( y/ ]4 k% y) D
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting . g" Z4 _" D5 J0 F
and financial statements; and
6 }( F  R$ C8 S, L2 ^•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
: u& C/ ^- F# ~6 l  J5 qcentered perspective.
