this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
! |$ u6 U- k8 u' I: _! rEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and - b6 ], y$ f6 A# g1 b0 u% ?& V5 `% Q
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 2 [3 c; {* S( Y- f0 o2 n
execution of the YWCA Strategy ! @, K( L$ e1 W! x
: i1 g, O) T: A6 `' h
Specific responsibilities include:  - K" }  q: r" O( C" H8 V

" V4 T# |( [+ A' o: X% y  g•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 0 G$ t, O. Y' d# I
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 5 N' f9 r# `1 U; u1 [4 C( m
the Board of Directors;  
6 \+ @1 h  k  ~; s•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations , Z+ i' Q3 \" D, R: c. M4 k5 s
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
2 G/ q+ V  y+ V5 i, @0 ^enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
" p) }* T5 ^6 r- q8 d( i•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
9 r! U; l- Q2 bobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by # P& U' L. g# _3 h- @
the board;  
7 E4 L6 B- `5 k9 R* w% H$ O•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  , E( g& Q% W, c0 H3 \* [
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
; K) g% W4 C! A/ v/ y7 A  f( r# a  Othe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ' d& H3 d5 r( s+ o1 A
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
+ Q: l( T, i/ F" D* X1 Y: ?$ ichanging needs of the organization and community;
/ T. @3 H  N+ q: ^) S•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue & ?  X3 k6 b4 s' ?2 ]/ C
commitments;
- u7 T, m  h5 M! _, M' d; G$ D•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  5 M2 f8 G' o/ [( M8 E
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 1 h5 q/ m: v( e4 g  V
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 `: G# _, r( X, L5 p7 s1 O8 u•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
2 T! I6 T  `9 w  K) m•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
! R8 q* j% G& x+ U( ^effectively and positively represent the association;
& s7 h. k0 D! J$ g
9 W& S: ^8 [3 _; s% }•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring / R/ q  T6 Z: Y+ ]$ v
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  * @8 A/ n% B$ \4 R. i1 b6 x
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal . }( t9 o9 s( a, J
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
7 B  W+ A* n7 F! _the forthcoming year;  
/ G5 e7 e/ h: S9 F' j•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical * T. h) R0 }  {8 v
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
% F- E* l/ ?; sYWCA Canada; and
4 X  |8 V8 c$ H& t- T•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 4 W9 Y1 i$ ^% S, x: {( H

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
# Z8 _% J- E" n5 I2 i•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus - f5 D0 m! D( Q; F; y
around decisions, plans and actions;
$ C$ d2 E5 a3 x( G$ F•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
. W4 N; W0 {7 }/ r•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
4 e/ Q; X9 H" W( u: yand achievable with realistic timeframes; . g& \" L, J0 R/ m1 w; Q, F
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& x" s* ^2 A; N0 ~' r1 Ysimultaneously;
+ a$ A! s( v, `$ b# f& c•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
) ]  ?# N2 d+ `' Q0 A  |rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

+ J8 ^" n2 M9 T•  Superior negotiation skills.

0 Y) d/ L" `. U7 x: T Required Professional Designation / Certification
# y6 X9 v9 @% X- F•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ) P& @8 R/ Y: F6 j) |4 U
- B8 b8 d2 w) I2 l  T* v- h" ^
Required Experience
: a! G! I, `# B5 f  H) |•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
" U  T: [1 O- e•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ( \3 }& z% t6 z' g2 E2 b
abilities; # M& B! u5 i, V
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, - `% a; J* {8 s9 d- M7 p
Networking and Fundraising; - p; W3 ~& O: X1 P( M4 p* t9 @
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
- g# K! c: K  x$ g3 O/ h7 F: hand financial statements; and
# |* x4 U" I+ D3 t- p•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
8 n3 S& A3 X" A4 q3 G1 D( D, }centered perspective. ' a. |3 L/ V' p2 v! q- l$ y
