The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

6 U& H5 h8 e% G  s& H/ m2 u" J' Fthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
5 A! G/ U+ w2 M% wEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and + Z$ n# o; H+ x* u% T
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

) V6 Z# t5 u3 V+ Q9 ?& NReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 8 r. d6 w2 F9 g
execution of the YWCA Strategy
0 n3 }8 x4 z* G. f5 v& B7 o ( h  g$ e& a& W1 d2 s! V+ Z& G
Specific responsibilities include:  
& n$ z' l6 }2 E' `! P! ^ # m. P4 w0 K4 j: s4 h
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
) y; S5 Y: C: V( W/ Athe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 3 U/ O/ o+ h" d  J6 a' n0 ]* B2 s
the Board of Directors;  . _  |7 W. k% G: X
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
  B9 |$ m$ r' G; tincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to $ f! {3 m% u$ z; R
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 2 O5 y( z, `/ ~5 u) {1 J! I( p& c
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
! g+ [; X/ [3 b4 Q8 Sobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 8 n0 i& s. F/ k
the board;  . M6 {' _: f4 a" K3 |$ K
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  " C. j6 S: m& Z9 D! q, b
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( `7 o0 ?" `6 W* L% z+ C& ~, Nthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
5 H/ F9 q- @9 w% ]•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the $ D# G" H" Z0 V' P; D( r1 |
changing needs of the organization and community;
$ u0 D& |9 C+ Q3 T) J•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
: t/ a; M0 ?) }! ]commitments; 1 [. X; o6 [# q, E7 _$ V
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
5 r3 T5 v+ ]3 g7 C: s0 a( `•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective * Z. u# H) _4 Z. y7 z2 x
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  : y9 x) k& S: Y" K5 `( X
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; : s  E" v2 U* \& v5 F
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to " T( o! J8 g2 Q$ t7 _4 ~+ J2 i
effectively and positively represent the association;
4 f- J  r4 |9 \! U0 r* G$ m4 u' a0 G0 a& V
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 6 o. H1 b6 {9 x7 {+ h
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  7 U' t4 L" {$ {7 }3 ^/ r6 B! a
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 {: P1 @6 @' j; cperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
+ i! X' g# C% K7 {" x' Bthe forthcoming year;  ' k% x/ a+ z* p, @& F6 W: N+ u- S" w: F
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 B1 }( O# m( J2 |$ ^7 U! B- o) F
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
; y$ O! r$ `$ _3 m7 x8 ]$ QYWCA Canada; and $ q+ W: J8 B1 c
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 7 b1 b) w+ c$ J) a2 N3 X1 H0 V

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 5 m* f% S5 X$ ~1 @4 q+ [
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
7 Y$ F3 |9 h+ `- M* Kand achievable with realistic timeframes;
! h# {. P( f& k9 F•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

1 r0 R+ T  g, G. N: W; p•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
9 d- Q) O+ g4 E# G1 s5 k( _" a
# [& e. w+ b/ gRequired Experience ) S: J( ~$ Y3 a4 S
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; % a+ s# H* N! m- s$ k% N; v. v" h& g) h4 r
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
( ^- e: o9 f+ R, J7 q8 Nabilities;
; `" ]+ R0 E8 H9 v7 }4 u9 |  y•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
, f) Z; \" O; @# t# INetworking and Fundraising; ; a6 b/ q+ g3 R: K
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
5 R/ E/ G- J5 ^( Yand financial statements; and 0 b; [6 M/ b' O4 z" @" ?) f
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
