The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic

' ?1 L" `$ N* |! |7 \this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
" i- _1 |- {8 l& q$ CEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and

execution of the YWCA Strategy

Specific responsibilities include:

/ n# `! ^2 N0 t•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, P: [/ @: h9 n8 |: {2 hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by , n( k# Z) O: _, ?3 t! X" L7 x% k
the Board of Directors;  9 K) S6 ^4 t9 h
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 9 t0 m) ~- b6 Q' c3 [- z$ _
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
6 g& Q6 R# K% i& y/ penable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
0 X# Z+ t3 \( k) F. ]* {. g•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 8 H5 j) ]/ y7 T+ Z, ?  o" _: X
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 7 B- s7 g8 F# f8 B  R; F. y
the board;  " W* h) c' c$ Y3 h
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  1 \- z; b  b$ O. R) {% c
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
5 U1 T" J9 U% w3 A5 D# Y' Kthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
7 e% ~2 G1 C- o1 Y5 ~; F( {* c; Z•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the % k- b% _2 p9 A  d
changing needs of the organization and community;
4 K3 E7 y7 ]) y5 I' K•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
3 {* I$ k0 ?% H9 ]; k3 {  dcommitments; $ ]% h6 B' x3 x7 ]$ p9 }- I
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
$ O' u, K2 k2 u, R•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 D0 @# Q1 o' ^/ h, q' ?0 T$ \" [selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  # f" x) I# l$ v. {! o/ w: r
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
0 K& W  C" f! ^3 K1 s; Q0 D•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
9 x; V6 b( ]% l3 ieffectively and positively represent the association;
& J4 c' H6 c& V& e5 N1 c7 f; C, e9 j: N% z& Y0 C
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
9 E9 t) k+ U' d8 I# x7 M! Rthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  - K8 R7 q' {# f) a" ^
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
0 l* R" H3 k, B" m- m, p+ |performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ' `) P- X# Q5 E$ V
the forthcoming year;  6 D. [% ?+ _0 c8 g( B% d0 o
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
1 t! ~7 s, J$ e4 F" D  M7 ^practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ! k; M4 j3 B# {. r
YWCA Canada; and
0 J# o0 w- H4 ^, S•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
* V, J! x" S7 GForces.  - f5 q/ ^% s. w+ i6 P

around decisions, plans and actions;
& ], T+ T5 D8 ?1 q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
& Y5 Z9 ]9 ?4 D5 }•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

Required Professional Designation / Certification
/ z3 e9 T0 z  _0 k•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
/ n4 }( b: i+ { ; m' r$ k- x. j5 E4 o
Required Experience 4 ~, R) K+ d; U+ _5 u' ^6 H5 o
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; . M4 P9 g# r" B* L$ R% ?
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ! `% h3 O: O$ N7 u" y  o
abilities; 7 L" ?* R+ K* h+ W
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ; o) c, {# T# N9 O0 O/ i+ D; s" i1 ~
Networking and Fundraising; 0 o0 f4 J9 S6 ^& O# _
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
) C+ n4 _. c( [2 a3 |' [* Cand financial statements; and 3 K5 C: a+ f7 S9 h# X  [
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women # U% H# ]4 `. S6 |, s9 W
centered perspective.
