The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic $ R, Q+ R: ?2 ~  B. r. S
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 0 Z' H* b& A( N' p
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
) _& O. a* a7 x% ]" wEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and + F8 {4 U5 Z$ [7 ?% x
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities ; ~) M' p: _9 Z2 d# r

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
) a" K# E; D+ P  M$ _4 yexecution of the YWCA Strategy
& B" y, |* c8 O" e% q
4 Y0 F8 `% O- f( {/ eSpecific responsibilities include:  - S6 l; L# s+ |+ l, E

0 T7 I: }6 ?4 O2 u  x/ d$ t•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
0 Z+ ?8 C6 I/ R; J5 c; }the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
& w$ n4 N2 t: ~) V/ Rthe Board of Directors;  & y  s0 w4 M, x8 d. r
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
% C5 S1 g0 T/ X( l- Eincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) M3 \& A4 t( h/ D% {# w3 b
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
9 _% v  q* M4 {•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 8 h" _1 t# X" E5 K) }% b5 n3 y
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 9 Q7 B9 X( [. ?. {( [" C5 @6 z6 Z* |
the board;  5 U5 Q- S0 n- r: i
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
+ j- ~' m6 [1 e9 o•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
" v0 [9 f2 z! {- i0 W; ethe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
- i4 x0 a# L% G1 r  D•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the   s5 k+ C0 u, @9 o
changing needs of the organization and community;
3 Z( K. A( v# {3 }•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ' h& q5 E# g7 A* b4 I2 o0 @
commitments;
! m$ _6 q4 Y$ I2 y2 \$ Q. Q•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
+ J& {' V  y' ]7 `) ]0 P•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 q& N2 g% z5 v% _) @selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
, R* b2 S. p4 b+ h& S2 G! d) x8 b, m% u•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
8 v. F. ^. I5 B& P0 @, O; x•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
& t! O5 K3 g1 z" v& c0 beffectively and positively represent the association; . ~& y* h0 j/ N& F# |

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring * L, p+ L/ \! v* `) ~6 {4 h
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
, Z0 ~; f- y! _; I/ M3 h: H' K0 X•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
* I( S( {. M" S( f1 ~$ fperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 8 P- l! f3 A8 u4 i
the forthcoming year;  
9 Q$ W' g4 i2 K8 r% h0 t+ |•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
6 @8 C0 T4 x; ipractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
" B+ S7 m# f5 p( O/ p. L& G5 [YWCA Canada; and
% k. H7 B3 Z/ _% J5 T•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

! m- S# Y+ q$ T- y. ^' x' K1 x•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 P; r/ \6 z% j
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
7 H3 U: ^2 V2 O7 `( j* T! sand achievable with realistic timeframes;
9 b: D3 J( T2 U% y; [1 ~•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ( u# B/ [; A; s3 x/ @2 }

Required Professional Designation / Certification
- n& [+ h$ Y" w$ o: v  c•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
: Q/ Z  h! E! N" ~3 F: C   P" G" {' @6 n/ d( H
Required Experience ' H0 o+ p9 G+ M7 w" `9 H2 f
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; : q7 B# |$ H0 D+ t0 G4 y
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 2 N  {* u7 X4 Y4 d. ^
abilities; 4 ]6 R( e+ |9 R& Z+ E8 Q+ y1 {
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
$ [0 F/ [0 w4 \; r% _* QNetworking and Fundraising;
' Q5 f* L9 P! k5 K•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
8 {: L! W; C6 `and financial statements; and 1 s; u& e( l- a
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 7 |1 F* g, a# Q9 C
