The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
# ]/ o; `- G% x2 `  Ithinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 0 b; W" _, ~; ]/ J7 I; I4 Q1 W$ m/ l
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
& h1 f- h2 ]0 r- J3 zEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and : r$ }- f$ x9 N2 }. ]5 r
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
2 y+ s% C5 h7 g; Z3 H6 UEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

2 m. j# f" s1 ~! B. q& y, t. EReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ' D( z+ X7 p3 S5 `# m
execution of the YWCA Strategy & E7 {* N( K  Q0 ^" f. x8 p" B
' K7 ]" u" i0 o# H* _  a; s
Specific responsibilities include:  * ]5 a' }. n* @9 p

6 N( h( m' ~0 N  M# r, f+ [•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ) }1 L  I& h( N6 F
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by ' Q: `+ V8 N: P$ u3 D
the Board of Directors;  # b. `  v# p0 n- h* m
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
3 H% I. I. Z& f: W8 vincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & b) ~" F* m8 o$ e( V
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 _4 V- b4 |5 Q8 E7 x' s0 Z! G
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 3 Y6 R  `6 A/ U5 @8 u1 W
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
" h+ H9 B2 W: Ythe board;  % Y0 l4 @7 o. x0 b' U) R
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
4 \- e* g. v& t! E2 l: k0 @, K' U; k•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion   m6 ~7 M3 Y& e' h
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 5 k( }8 d; X$ q4 i  ~+ K
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
0 `9 d' F/ E* B9 `, Q% g, _changing needs of the organization and community; 8 _$ g8 g$ `7 u
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 8 I) c' o! |. a
commitments; $ Q/ v+ [% r8 b& A  }9 E& k
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
- S' @* l4 b4 c6 E9 T1 g3 L•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
8 t8 a9 ?% w! B" C7 Q4 jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ( x( ?- e$ `2 \1 T
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # V* b7 V6 h6 ]# j) R
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to , J: V& j2 ]' ^
effectively and positively represent the association;

2 m& Q) I( a- e•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 5 D: r7 {3 v3 f. s9 t- r( D8 A' r2 q
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
! E6 M; l7 f' \3 V2 i( @- c3 ]# h" m1 D•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal & ]/ v* Y9 r5 {( a( F( I
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED / @8 n' b" n  c1 K7 u- O
the forthcoming year;  " \" k7 [# _" R! Q3 c! H
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
* _0 F1 L9 V& v6 Gpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of * t2 c9 C& y% p) d5 p
YWCA Canada; and 7 x3 Q9 D/ ]2 B2 M1 n0 o
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
9 a: V" a) J! p5 oForces.

Required Skills & Abilities 9 |5 Q( F) j8 X( n4 c( T5 G
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
" J- b7 d/ s. K3 g/ E* v' `* L•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
2 {) P3 i& v1 e3 l- Aaround decisions, plans and actions; 7 X1 F+ j4 d& e" O+ [8 e
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 3 o* b: F/ z% c  t2 U* N
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
1 f; y: k$ r2 {4 aand achievable with realistic timeframes; " _  a1 D- x* j
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
& S7 b' i3 i# {! ^" ]simultaneously;
3 u2 N, r( \, D9 V. p  A•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
9 |3 H3 k+ z  k6 Arapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 0 C+ F( U+ {2 v: \% [( d( v& D
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

( |- ]4 X' A% ^3 a6 p•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 7 o4 G7 R$ u. q0 |) B

3 D; v0 c9 w8 x3 x8 |  }  ]) s1 `Required Experience $ F+ \: L+ U  N1 a
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; . ]' q2 ]: Y* s2 `' C$ }. Y; v+ h
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation % @1 h% R* \4 F% {& Q" ]
abilities;
* |5 _: C  F$ u3 @, Y•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, , I7 I' R. t' l) p: t8 H8 L
Networking and Fundraising; ( X' }' `* w6 Z
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
$ a& l# N' C0 B" b) c7 `and financial statements; and 2 w+ [# }' r: h+ z6 w. M2 R+ E
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 4 V; ]$ _: a0 I# i9 v$ V
centered perspective.
