The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
( h7 t! f: V& S9 n8 d9 m8 S  S. nthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead : W" U+ n; }% g( j  o; R* k4 e
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ; T9 \+ q5 x3 ^1 \7 O8 R
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 1 l0 [9 y" q( `
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 7 |. I& A. q* m# K$ d5 i  q
execution of the YWCA Strategy
6 ~3 |5 X! Y0 _: F/ m2 d& Z
( Q* h3 a, _5 o$ t& N6 qSpecific responsibilities include:  
+ x+ H- p  n+ O1 P" y
% S) y: I3 M, B+ ]' O•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
, O. r1 }* t1 P( F! b! h1 T, D6 o4 l! ?6 hthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by " m! Y9 t1 U. `/ f
the Board of Directors;  ) {  g4 ]/ R5 T/ Z4 [4 B$ Z
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 4 ?$ L# s" O( m% W3 ?
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ; Y. d; Y! `- a4 k3 q4 T5 h
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
  j$ M4 N# U( F4 ]2 b•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 B% O, U; @5 S' W/ s# B: @# I) b/ I
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by " M$ F9 j) g4 k, g- _! B# E# A
the board;  1 a9 [/ ]( k% z  \6 K" t
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  / L& M  h8 x0 g1 N% p
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 6 n- P& t. W1 @4 l: q9 b
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
: }( n6 H7 a& i: Y+ h$ f•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
1 E( ?& s2 ]0 V) Hchanging needs of the organization and community; $ u* _! N. s+ H
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ) [& N/ O+ p1 |2 [9 L$ P+ M
commitments;
5 c9 g/ a- c1 j, v7 `1 z- q3 v0 f•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
$ y, Y1 e" n, C/ C•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
: h5 \: \+ d, X, \9 Q6 Z8 G( c- }selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
- |: C$ |6 B. s: Y5 E•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
4 [* I0 U; {8 T; z•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 4 v1 R5 J' ?6 D* O, j: T
effectively and positively represent the association; - u0 t: v# w7 U# m& j1 R
9 V. a1 l$ C, h% F' Q
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 8 E  r/ {% ~" V9 e
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# ?" [/ [  Y5 c6 Q•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
- E+ J4 D2 K- t9 M7 O% ^0 j. hperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 1 r* S2 s% R- a+ J* p
the forthcoming year;  9 [5 j$ Q: K  n8 y, s5 S
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical , x& Y2 v# K. l; L
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
/ i5 j: y. E3 x8 C* b3 E# IYWCA Canada; and
2 y  F/ u$ i- D/ o5 Z+ o5 P! v( w•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 2 u9 B6 S6 W& Y- y4 ~

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
4 W) S* A! M( o6 G•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
, A, L2 k" j/ @  l/ m- d% @" K; ]•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable : l! u8 M4 }+ q8 L* p
and achievable with realistic timeframes; * Z6 c4 L/ |5 f& `+ H8 T
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 5 t+ L' q( E. p' J: S: Z* i/ P
simultaneously;
: Z& l! z( f! V+ p8 Z•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification # s6 B  G; Z$ P, Z5 q' V/ G* G
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. ' u7 A, f& @- ]1 T9 ^, H7 o/ H, v

3 y2 O! H- B, e  g1 i3 NRequired Experience
0 X( ~5 \4 L5 @7 C* Q5 c•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
! h8 a( y4 W8 b6 E2 V1 q6 w3 U•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ( N; y4 M; {6 B" Q! I! T% I
abilities; ) l2 E2 |4 Y8 B) }( ^6 ]% n
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
4 Z8 z" P9 Q" I2 x# C* k+ sNetworking and Fundraising; 8 w: P: g: x2 L6 m' K4 l" Y
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 1 o" a: L8 k. Y! v& H# @
and financial statements; and
% [0 X. H, i) c; P•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ) z* {  m9 v& C2 @* B* i
centered perspective.
