The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic / f& }* F$ Z* X  ~, \# v( X3 M5 W+ s
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 8 o5 T' Q$ E- n- I6 X6 R' E
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ! ~: j1 Y# N  ?& j  k8 B5 x. q
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
. r9 z7 \' w9 @2 K8 Y& |5 Vsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
. J- A% _$ g7 P( `Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

innovative and dedicated Executive Director to join our team.

Responsibilities 8 G* B5 E( I; s+ s4 f

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and : J& v0 ^8 f* R2 @& p( v' E
execution of the YWCA Strategy - X5 m" x4 R: }8 c+ }
( @) B; r6 V& R, @8 O+ E
Specific responsibilities include:  
8 L# p1 O1 f9 s/ a9 Y
0 K' F$ m: j4 G% m) c) i•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of , s" V- p8 |  R
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
. b7 A6 q) O# _. f7 f- F  v8 ~  Lthe Board of Directors;  4 _: u9 r- d" _9 h/ O9 c
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
9 b& V8 C9 W! W5 U; K6 z8 aincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # g1 L# S5 b7 M) v
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ' \7 {* W/ u: q0 T. r+ m7 u
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
- [% E% e. K2 s4 aobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ' {- j. z9 P3 G: L1 I- E# q* T
the board;  
3 g, k; t8 k% G1 t9 }% W+ W•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
* c  M$ r! b; F. e2 Y% i3 G•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ' l8 j$ P6 G8 h
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
  J8 N. b& l/ e3 A•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
2 a3 W1 g! n& R, ~& v) pchanging needs of the organization and community;
! w+ I6 k; C5 C+ E4 [; ]•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 4 I2 v& @6 X1 a+ U# Y+ R
commitments; % |* l, Y) `0 [3 R
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  - N2 t% h" ~4 @( n( _8 x0 }# D
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
6 m0 z$ Q4 T6 r+ r* R7 S( d8 vselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
  k+ E; p9 S* E  w; t4 ~•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
% @: F$ ~3 v6 v4 j2 c: ~! K! T•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 3 J" ]2 G3 t& c( `1 L8 j
effectively and positively represent the association;
: h, c- g- f" W. K# r$ x/ U! U! K! j4 o" ?1 q, T5 C4 d, C3 Q
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring % E1 N+ C; b* p) g
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  0 x5 f; l/ k$ r* s- t& h, ]3 X1 y# z6 A
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
" {1 ?, |" m0 C) w8 n6 yperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( n6 E# S$ F2 @9 G/ y9 _+ Y
the forthcoming year;  . U' t% t7 R5 A' b, ?7 X1 A
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ' x; r! X# Z5 ~4 z% A
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
" N% J' }0 @, G7 D' t8 sYWCA Canada; and % k/ k7 e  `, O) h& \1 Y
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task * I4 t# G2 \# T( L
Forces.  
" G$ b9 ~, d( E/ }7 y  # i, d2 ?8 R+ F1 T0 E0 Q4 G+ l
Required Skills & Abilities * g# i9 ]9 [8 P! }2 \- v. k# C
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
5 p/ g0 E; ~$ n+ k•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus " E0 L& |& V: e
around decisions, plans and actions; + q- m( t1 F; |
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
: Y* e' D: ^5 G1 n! c" V# k8 {•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
& ]7 `. V. y/ b. ?& g- ]and achievable with realistic timeframes; ! f; x( d' t' J# X
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 3 p  G# Q( B. t
simultaneously;   ]# @  M8 C( T2 [# K& Q
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
$ C; f$ c5 K- R5 W  Qrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
8 ^7 U3 E( n; K•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and / ~9 ^) {) w2 g" j) R$ s: L2 ]# W
•  Superior negotiation skills. / }; x% h! L* G4 x, z$ ~. R4 a

Required Professional Designation / Certification
. j  S6 s( _6 M% ~' ?0 \•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
  p8 I! Y6 k4 B2 F  C) f4 ^/ r 6 r1 E& d5 f6 O* w4 t. \" U5 t6 T
Required Experience 1 _' W' F9 {3 |( w9 ~5 J
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; $ D/ o# ?2 h  ^# |) L9 h
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
) N( d$ r5 v# V/ f3 }. X9 `) b+ `1 babilities;
- C/ `: {' {: O" A" b* H. e•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
: w) T5 l( `; L- UNetworking and Fundraising;
' g; \2 |2 O# a- |+ H# y# Q•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
( q: v8 t6 w  e; g$ G) Tand financial statements; and 1 k; u! n0 `6 C8 l
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' L& }9 V, i2 y  E- \: _8 ?# O$ H' B
centered perspective.
