The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ; Z0 p) O; W: }
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead , ?, U6 P; e. \0 y& H! I
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
' a! z9 s" ^" C3 _: V! e3 Y8 nEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and # @# _% V. z( y, Y' V& _" h1 o4 N2 c5 z* `
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 9 b5 [  t; k" Y7 Q) u* Q, Z4 M

' h& A1 b7 k" F2 Z/ C- {: T" m* hReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
& x& @$ j" n% F$ T9 B: ]0 |execution of the YWCA Strategy % t- {. |5 F0 K; s$ [5 P4 }/ K
6 [$ d) s! ]" c5 T4 l0 o, l
Specific responsibilities include:  
% F! |2 x$ v  h0 I) e5 ^ ( R6 U5 K  q0 O5 m" p# x
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
0 U) h( q$ u$ e' Q! v; n5 ?the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
' R$ f4 T# H! v( G) [8 Z: Tthe Board of Directors;  9 n1 G( U, g: V9 g0 \' S2 w0 p: L
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
- ^$ R) y0 f8 y% i- Yincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to # x; I" G/ H4 k! v7 Q. G
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 X. q5 b# m; E
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 n$ N6 P$ H2 g+ A! P
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ' j" i3 d& Y7 l9 [& K" ~: G/ T
the board;  % f; R. A. @& }& }  a# `
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  8 z4 ?/ f0 i6 y  b
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 8 Y- L; b. m6 a
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ) `5 X- ^' E  u1 x2 U! @. u0 h
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the , _/ D8 Q, o+ g: H
changing needs of the organization and community;
2 X: g7 r" S' h9 l: d, y" H: @•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 0 F+ T9 u# X# ^( _$ \$ p
commitments; # S2 h8 y1 e/ w; ^( }2 P: O
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  ' ~+ |+ @# A0 ]/ W
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 0 [9 m9 a: H7 l) c1 k- l$ x; V
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
- B2 d7 s0 f: Z•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;   G' X2 }+ J. b: }7 G
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
$ z: O( W1 f& V' ceffectively and positively represent the association;
+ y4 K* K$ }' _& Y/ c# ^5 I, `  Z
$ x, }( j  X  p! Q  k•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
9 {" p3 j& p8 X1 `6 c6 Kthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
+ \* u" F6 G" r! _/ Q$ s( w' r•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ n  X2 C! @7 z8 N8 dperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
+ x3 c3 L4 G+ v3 Jthe forthcoming year;  
7 F: T/ m2 m& x0 o5 p•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ! A+ v8 V$ L/ ~4 ?6 C1 T* Z  ^
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
; Z" Q, z4 p" e7 U& `YWCA Canada; and 5 u, ?. j  r2 L
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 1 `4 o% o, y9 B5 p! {  G; X# C/ ]% {
Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities 9 v4 u4 X( A9 q( k. Y
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
* I$ a- U! _/ [7 {3 q•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
( g5 K, P7 _$ q& p0 G. Saround decisions, plans and actions;
8 Z# f$ c9 o3 M  S•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; % [" T$ x; E* }. v+ E2 W
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
% I$ e' K  c* fand achievable with realistic timeframes;
) J9 @3 k) |# s' w•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
9 H- g: K& l& Y5 \; P7 Z6 fsimultaneously;
& E8 G+ [, }: j+ N( W* q% F•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
/ p' ]/ r* _- _$ G! Y$ h7 q5 {rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; : T! s+ X) k' j, B8 U2 E' ~: e
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
5 f, W5 q, I: E0 f% I•  Superior negotiation skills. ' X0 R& ^1 q  Z! H  [! \

Required Professional Designation / Certification 4 S$ _( C) Z% O/ C/ x; o5 h
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
# w! j! o4 S+ _( V( w0 U* z& G# q
* [3 X( Z6 B( Y7 XRequired Experience
& C) I4 `# C0 U" L•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
+ O- s" T- f7 e$ T•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
! r' g  O% ?/ q4 d+ A- K- eabilities;
' N& }1 ?" G, m! m•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 3 V; o; Z; X$ F1 a  G9 U
Networking and Fundraising;
: _( I. _; l1 j5 i+ g•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting $ Y5 P3 r% Q( A2 ~* |+ e
and financial statements; and / a  R! s$ \+ m8 ?
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ! a# x/ v. ^$ O1 ^5 \9 q4 I
centered perspective.
