The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 3 E2 E; E1 t* q% C" x' c
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
- Y; D" m& P$ ]" h; O. h" ythis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 0 v# J, |5 L9 Y- V/ g$ ^: Z5 p' W9 Y" A
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and & J; c* i9 M* Z( y7 g7 O
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 2 D4 }+ ], h. }; `
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ( B# g( i( [2 B- x

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
! J( m+ A0 T  i2 d" Q9 Vexecution of the YWCA Strategy
0 b1 a9 G! ?' A# o5 [7 _( l
* D- T3 F8 F; L( Y" r3 XSpecific responsibilities include:  9 V: ~& Y- n; Z9 r& B- L( X, Y

2 R0 p; Q  k6 O' \1 O•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ' ]# G- W' o/ g0 C! {5 u
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by % _3 R. C( I6 w  S9 F, d6 m& Z
the Board of Directors;  
" Y( V/ u1 l: ^( Q, ~+ k•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
7 q* I# L# I$ z9 fincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
  x+ q; n& [! q) Nenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
0 \5 x1 z. ], c3 d+ v" b! Z3 L•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
* O( H5 E' ?$ f9 X  C3 Y! }* p0 C# zobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
* t& ]- z. s) N0 V' dthe board;  % K" \/ m! i7 o6 f4 e/ K4 T4 w
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
6 o& b, D& N2 n% _3 l0 M9 a% A' Y•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion % A6 }( @1 R5 h( A/ P; V. A/ H
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; , @# D% Z& Q% E
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the - \& M  H: G+ d4 \) ?
changing needs of the organization and community;   b6 @% x$ ^/ C8 b7 t
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue , b. {6 O. \8 v% Y5 }) d
commitments;
7 J& _: R& u% \& x: G% H4 u. e•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
" T/ W' I& o, D) ^6 k•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
/ G5 P0 o1 a  ?, Q7 d+ A9 W3 Q& J0 @selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  & {" `. c" \+ m: K  H
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
7 v+ k$ V2 P; t; ?9 E•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
. a9 g5 @7 c+ A  Eeffectively and positively represent the association;
0 n0 i; b/ |! S3 B8 d: ]+ T1 s
  L" u8 Q3 t9 j' U+ ?+ D•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 3 c, Y& L' ~; q& P5 K. W+ l* Q# ]
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
) b% B) [9 {- L•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal " Q9 h" P( G: K- U
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
; K: a8 M$ {5 U2 Gthe forthcoming year;  $ Y8 K5 r4 ?$ t/ n/ l7 r# x
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical . K% a1 w/ Q1 q( C' V4 k
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 9 K/ ]% w! S: H' J
YWCA Canada; and
, [, u9 \2 K2 w- {' w  h1 d: {•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task # k& a, I/ y& G- z

% r3 Z+ @: K8 \•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; ; G; I3 f; y- n
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

/ T3 _% \! c; e! a3 U, a% U# Q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
5 L, v, [+ ?9 y0 o- o•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
( z$ V; _7 P- c1 Oand achievable with realistic timeframes;
; I! @1 @( ^+ G: W4 R2 d6 R•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ) k# n# Q; O7 P+ e4 R1 p

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 3 C- @9 T2 b0 h9 M* G( X, u9 m
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
7 a+ l; R, v0 G$ w6 o+ C1 a•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and & O) f/ e8 H! ]$ t$ ^; k0 m
•  Superior negotiation skills.

! _4 K4 \, u. j+ i7 X  B7 V Required Professional Designation / Certification
+ e1 }0 c6 K0 J; g1 }6 ~•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
' D+ E' G1 h4 S; p/ D/ H* a # t" ]4 I4 r' o
Required Experience
0 i  j1 H# c4 @•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ! \8 Z, y6 Q. ~( i. G" t
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
5 o4 F" B7 \1 c* J9 P7 jabilities; & R) ]& s3 O. h1 ?* l$ B& H2 s/ u$ K
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, + F, x- V; m8 I" ~! F
Networking and Fundraising; 9 N2 B! L' T# w+ j0 j
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
' u7 |+ q  h8 t6 }9 I7 J7 z+ _and financial statements; and / A6 I4 n4 S3 J0 w4 F9 N7 R
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' u3 Y  s- y- L9 I
centered perspective.
