* \9 L( v4 v" y: T8 d" Vthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA / ?4 Z  h5 i/ T4 D  R0 [! k
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 7 ^5 J; n2 u* D' o( w7 @
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA   o% `( G3 z( r( g, B- |8 L$ v
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities

4 o# N1 H( R/ W2 U5 ?Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ; e" T5 R  {2 c5 F2 g8 z3 x
execution of the YWCA Strategy 5 H. e4 ]# ]: H, K$ \0 a- `

% d$ G. ~- T) n3 DSpecific responsibilities include:  4 Y* {) }% ]* y
' X7 S& M% L: a
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ) l# a- y/ W7 W" ~4 m
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by # I% J7 E# J% m' p
the Board of Directors;  
# X9 g0 ?8 {- e" ]3 N•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
  c9 s  @$ V, u% }8 Uincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 7 C) \+ Y- P. Q( a
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; - b+ Q0 u# f- C2 v
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 9 f3 ~+ \3 F3 Z  o8 Q
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 3 Q# G1 Z) H0 e( v9 W
the board;  4 `- d1 ?& X5 |' @7 R/ L
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
0 X  g" G+ N: V6 Q  G•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 2 \/ F2 _, S  j$ v
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; : o- F. }7 y. N* j/ ?$ X
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
6 ?" [, N! ?+ D( }5 |changing needs of the organization and community; ) b- i: i' ]8 d: }3 N
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue - r" z) u! @/ D5 y
commitments;
9 ]/ k# `2 |/ y+ g5 P: d) r, r•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  9 a. B1 P* I$ E- Y( O5 _
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective - g. h* l+ a/ N6 V7 F
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  & B+ ~+ A: `9 M  C4 o, Q
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; : c, d" i. L& `$ u1 U) r
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 3 `1 _6 b: p6 r  [6 U  r" L
effectively and positively represent the association; + }; \+ G4 K$ b; E# R! K. f
3 U$ A; [7 y1 V9 |7 x
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
% H1 G! v0 j& D* K8 N7 pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
# }4 i# d6 F) H( e, B$ \" z•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
$ p* ^6 p4 l8 Sperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ; O+ g& E3 P. }) R# v
the forthcoming year;  
9 [, }: t4 ^3 t- L0 h•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
$ ?+ j% \% ^3 k" s4 d& Fpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of * T$ k9 d% t/ S
YWCA Canada; and
' `5 {5 Y( |2 q3 `6 K, y$ n5 d. \  [6 l•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task : c6 n3 j! m- R/ m

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
% L6 P: ~$ c7 q; M4 s6 i; m5 H: @•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
; P7 B- T1 m, [+ p% g, Paround decisions, plans and actions; ) o. k0 j9 Z1 d
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
! w2 D9 g1 Y: [$ \; m•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
2 {0 m* ^9 ^& ]; h+ n. ^' jand achievable with realistic timeframes; & @- p8 U, r/ s$ ]8 I# Z8 W; s3 z
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
5 T+ ]! _" I/ H1 Hsimultaneously;
, n  Y( ]# c% N  k- c1 D•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
4 x3 Q# ~1 e4 ?% S) xrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; ! ?. L, L* V' {9 I# v! i0 V
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
) |, k2 S5 R4 N$ v) Q3 P3 Z•  Superior negotiation skills.

7 g+ b, |7 n$ r- k, i Required Professional Designation / Certification
  x. [2 z3 R/ N% U•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
/ a6 m$ l9 R% b1 P/ \" k
' B( O! S: e! T" [8 i) }- U( {! PRequired Experience
' g2 p( i: @( K& E•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;   L/ [6 b; L2 [8 W6 i- i
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
. K; ~4 _  x1 F: u0 T4 e- }. labilities; , W* b+ K7 |5 w, `  ?# N* S) L
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
/ }& \+ v) M) zNetworking and Fundraising; " b3 n% c( v, r: t0 u1 M; H
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
* l2 F0 t9 b$ Hand financial statements; and
1 \% e' m1 M- Z/ I•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
4 D4 F# Z8 ]) ?' ncentered perspective.
