thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead - p: a& B8 h- U* }4 v- m2 y5 `) q
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
; |# a/ I* x+ y1 P2 _  fEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 3 U9 {" o" s, x. c7 k9 V8 l
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities 8 U" C4 _! O3 c5 ~

& P* ~( K4 D1 ^Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
8 h. Y# Z2 S* s. J; c6 O. Oexecution of the YWCA Strategy / b# k- z% R+ ?5 e6 y# G

' F) N+ {/ X" E. z5 h) |Specific responsibilities include:  
6 d6 @, W8 ?, P7 C. n1 ^
% _  X, H# u% e, y•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
0 _6 |' I! k$ m! v, Wthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
; y. G5 u6 g6 [6 F* E1 m! Wthe Board of Directors;  
+ D) |' m: ]6 R+ Q& u+ P  h+ }" O•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 6 n0 g% _: k& O3 t8 ]/ k7 D" T0 x
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to , A6 ]' {2 V2 ?
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; ' V- q4 F0 o" `5 C$ i5 w' Q
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and / H& ^! _0 Z1 |
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by - m; i# T, D, @9 T; r, @
the board;  ' \3 V0 ]9 T5 w6 }/ v$ v, \
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
1 W/ ?( i5 y0 {/ b  j, @( v8 N•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ) ~3 N3 w, l* V3 Q
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; , x3 W$ P, }, J' l
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
: O* \2 _; y2 U# `1 v7 t/ d& X, vchanging needs of the organization and community; ( q9 \1 S/ B, z" L8 S" R$ ~$ ^
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue , {* m" o3 J& s1 G8 A% C
commitments;
4 a* b+ Y9 ]6 m' U•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  " R3 H; x6 k: `% ], w* J
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 9 E* m- ^, U. b& U+ H6 K3 C
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  1 T# C/ {# @. q& G  ?  i
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; # p4 H! }0 s- k. `
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
7 p# R7 N7 O" p- _  A. L+ geffectively and positively represent the association;
! P6 u  C- b8 \; m3 Q6 P: z# N2 A/ k4 n2 G# z6 N" \
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring : _$ O# w$ ~6 f( d* R) D
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
  j. u) {% p/ S' v, ?•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
5 R- P( e' W8 T& g  B& L) W& O6 k4 ^. dperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED : [; V; t0 l% F. G) A. H
the forthcoming year;  3 |. ]! j& S) E3 r# e% d0 q
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
+ {% A4 v! o5 S9 k5 c" ^8 i" cpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ' K1 B# N. }: ^) a
YWCA Canada; and ; F" @9 |( @8 {4 Q) I6 w- ^
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task / w1 `: F( k4 @
Forces.  $ j( h; E5 T$ P6 E1 B8 F( P5 j

Required Skills & Abilities
! I$ d& m; z) G, p5 K* U8 z•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
8 T; H) [' y+ Q' {2 ~. B& M1 }•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
. X) y/ _/ h! F7 maround decisions, plans and actions;
$ z5 ?0 p! r, |& d) k2 Y4 P, K•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 9 w. x; Y7 M& ?) X0 }+ @# }, q$ ~
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable ) K2 ?# Z1 u! x0 n6 L7 `
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
3 Z; {4 ~, ?/ P•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks & a+ ?1 G4 K) K5 y3 B3 {
simultaneously;
$ n! E# X2 w% ?) k•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build & r* v6 p( E  S% K7 {* U" Q
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 4 ^! a; Q) z# h7 x4 a9 r: D% j
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
' D: N7 t5 ^7 B! Q" _6 s& d9 y) e•  Superior negotiation skills.

3 w+ f" b/ }4 I5 x7 N1 i Required Professional Designation / Certification
. X- O9 S, ~2 N" i•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
4 K) x0 Z  {9 r: [ ( B0 d3 j. C5 C* y6 {. V
Required Experience " c! Q8 s% e7 ?. Q) w
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; + Q: N# s0 L; u+ A& Y& S
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 9 D+ B, l' b: ^: o6 ?: f& c% s
abilities; ! Y  {3 N! k4 Y' w
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   x# w& y4 U6 E+ z/ n- b
Networking and Fundraising;
: o" r6 m( G+ R9 G•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 1 ^* h3 {4 v7 O5 \! H, ~
and financial statements; and   X& n  V& v+ u5 K3 O# O1 b
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
  z$ o$ ]- a* k8 V2 W& Lcentered perspective.
