YWCA Edmonton has a history of over 100 years shaping a world of equality, opportunity and

The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
& q; Q. D2 l" {- h' P% dthinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 1 h. t; u1 ~3 f  X9 K& w+ Y; w$ \
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
0 i6 z7 }: N% ~9 N8 `6 EEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and . a1 b, p3 u( n' Z: a7 a
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
& g7 [. T$ `" B2 |, L; T1 `* \; fEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
+ N( I! [0 y( S' ]+ P0 S# L : p# e1 M8 I7 B' v/ D+ G+ P% P
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 2 E. i7 x3 N; l: ~$ E
execution of the YWCA Strategy 2 m, @+ J3 u  U2 w6 x) r, S+ {

% z$ v( O% \9 y& V! w% uSpecific responsibilities include:  % B. A  v/ a- z: J" R; b

! O8 ?) h$ w6 T0 `; K•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of " T4 q+ h3 `1 O5 q& i' a
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
0 N" X- w7 o( ^/ Athe Board of Directors;  
3 t6 p/ W' I( C# y! K4 w1 k' R•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 9 W  |* W4 g; B- h* R
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 0 N6 }4 ]. M% E+ O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
" j  w6 z& y( R+ o! L' C$ \* L•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and % [# f) @% v) b" q5 D. t' [
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
2 r5 f5 G' Y7 D/ {the board;  6 r, i/ R" G, t, |& u
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  / R8 M  ]" ^8 s. h; m9 R
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ( g5 p% S& d9 g/ Z: O. N, M
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
8 X; I& U) c& ?! d5 U•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the   V. H5 ]( y. L9 F' i. Q+ ]( Y/ r# c
changing needs of the organization and community;
2 s3 s$ ~) C0 [•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 2 \, V% K& y& U# d
commitments; % p1 {4 b0 L: V$ {3 t* w/ U( n
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  * o% x6 {4 t+ e& w$ y# o
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ( i1 G1 Y7 `$ a. F) t3 i
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  . m! R: f9 G0 K8 _# s8 B2 g
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. K# m3 K; X, X5 L& u3 ?. j# E•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
( ~0 }  l( }5 j. s8 P( `/ _effectively and positively represent the association; : [  y- z9 @( i% k
% Q) Y9 Y5 b2 R9 E
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
7 v8 p& H9 @! |7 r' u; m7 hthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  : q+ `- N( \: B5 F2 H
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 1 Q. C1 Q- b, H& r+ A: v
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ O9 K" o) \7 `& `0 S. H. j4 xthe forthcoming year;  
4 s/ D$ h- O9 g6 j+ P7 R# R•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 4 q+ L2 w+ s" c% D1 d9 Q
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
" b) Q+ n* @3 |4 N1 t$ }YWCA Canada; and ! W. s6 I5 ^/ H# ?
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
3 T$ R# p/ C; }  X! LForces.

' G& H- k9 I& ~" D( p) @4 q+ nRequired Skills & Abilities ( ^' j9 A& R! h! \9 a
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
' P* V* S- e" Y) S; R  s# O6 F& U•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
! f& }: o( |, ~) k- ]around decisions, plans and actions;
% |" ?6 x( j3 t•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;   _% e% ~* N& a7 {
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 7 k6 F$ J' I( x
and achievable with realistic timeframes; , H. ^" s4 L: P! j6 ~- g4 y
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
8 N" _" {, g6 e. z3 D: _: Zsimultaneously;
1 n2 ?2 x4 n' ]; r3 W6 \1 j8 i% u9 s•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build ) Q) x+ [, w8 k+ j: e7 T
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
; {) u+ G( r7 ?9 p/ j•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
- X" K8 u' S" A  w9 Q$ Y•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
& d2 o4 D/ Z, p7 n5 |  b•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 6 t# d' x- D5 Y% C* }# c& e& |) l6 ~7 c

& q& X6 i* @6 W. ^+ B2 ^; [# `; URequired Experience
" J, x! Z! C1 x•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 2 _, z5 N! C) O. b9 {2 {
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
" ]4 c0 B3 t; o2 U- Y! fabilities; 8 E6 |& ]! i0 u5 r& Q! U
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
/ D$ I) P# B3 u4 MNetworking and Fundraising; * V% K1 V/ i3 n) b: e
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting   y$ G# o# J# K, K
and financial statements; and 7 ?% ~$ A' X  W# O: D
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
