The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic / m# b& Y1 U+ v. G  @' f4 E
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
! u- Y1 E4 N% Ythis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ! @) F+ N4 [6 G3 u! G- k( A
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
+ J; z  i! p5 f5 h+ a* Gsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities
) d# g; ]. p5 i+ z$ N0 J5 y8 e6 f$ }: G
+ [' T& p* b: [# ^2 Y0 @Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
$ J. p5 u& n' G/ bexecution of the YWCA Strategy
) `8 m9 b1 p0 ]5 k7 i  Y. x
' t- c. V+ b% m. wSpecific responsibilities include:  : {; Q3 ]0 l! k1 F  s

* L  I$ ]* y6 W! v5 ]•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of ' g" A! \; ?$ ]0 Q* w% v
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 4 l; o" b( m; P- ~" V" z- N
the Board of Directors;  
7 m9 H# r7 l2 T0 @•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 1 K# j  }. y6 C+ c
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
: K; u6 Q$ N5 O6 Henable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; % O4 D2 N& d) w7 |0 j
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 4 ^7 N& W! c% }1 S+ v0 b5 j
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 9 C- o: E8 G! N7 L$ ?6 U2 c' @
the board;  
, s" |" F# M) M+ x, O) p+ K* T•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
( ]- i, n$ ]6 G, t; g+ R" h2 M•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion * u' G$ b; ^% [
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; $ ?/ J) {7 Y! w
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
+ J& u+ g3 o% x0 C6 T9 dchanging needs of the organization and community;
4 Q: x3 v6 b7 V8 N•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 2 h* C$ s( t4 X& C% C' w! L, z) \% \
commitments; 1 G1 Y* {; C% }; y* O$ g% I
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  % G6 j1 J) W, e7 U+ y: e0 B0 k
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
  U. B: k6 n1 d# z( yselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  4 [, z! t. f  H: V
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
* X+ Z3 ^& c9 ~, o, Q* |: L•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 0 T+ b( q* ]* ?! o" G* `
effectively and positively represent the association;
' f) t' Y+ M8 ~3 E# @
' E7 P9 W; `& t0 y. G/ q1 M. L•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
- G# G) I3 }- g# o' |the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  0 _; E) [1 z8 {7 \
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal . Y9 H' f6 Q7 B
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
/ J4 y, j; v! {5 Z* Ithe forthcoming year;  
4 D. m1 W5 m3 h  O4 v- m•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical % X# g* ~' Z" w/ X0 m7 a
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
" p4 k9 d# h9 IYWCA Canada; and 8 S5 e) `, M6 F
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
3 M2 i* V  I) m/ C4 qForces.

Required Skills & Abilities
+ y/ R1 w& x2 ~& H8 p•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
" i% i# c% e  X" F" B: N# ^•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
; a" V. s4 `: G, ]2 Garound decisions, plans and actions;
" Y4 T7 R$ w6 y' k4 h, [•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
0 F, |2 c# \; B1 s& U" Y0 v•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 8 n# n. _' l) {: r" C  n2 d  }
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
' B: G4 t7 i; ^. e9 I+ q•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
* f& \3 W$ E9 d1 t6 z  c& gsimultaneously; 0 }) H4 B2 U4 s, F; Z: y
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
$ I$ W0 g4 f6 A* f! m& d; orapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
" T4 b( F8 A+ ^  k( h- K' A, |•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
, _8 e8 m3 A* h% \, g# A* M4 w( W7 }) K•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification % t. ^  |* @' o6 b
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
5 B* q& i/ h9 |( A0 J
( F; ~0 F: f* V) ^! R! V0 JRequired Experience 0 T5 e7 r; p  S
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
9 \, z& C" W# G' e' D•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
; S6 D$ u  B# |/ z. i  Cabilities;
4 Z% ?) K6 \8 r0 h1 o•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, $ E6 ~/ k% @+ o; j5 n& q
Networking and Fundraising;
' g: u( ?9 |8 p6 @/ n) W•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ! q- \% h/ `: H8 \  e( u
and financial statements; and 9 u  ]* j8 U# X" u! Y9 ~
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 4 [# f8 p8 Z! {
