Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
' p( K+ H4 T) T* K. A) }surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

7 Y; [4 i" Q2 _/ ^2 t) {Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ! J; q* @7 H; X0 _! L+ p
execution of the YWCA Strategy ) ?3 {; }1 G( `- M: C% h$ A
7 T* E! V* W. t! K0 S
Specific responsibilities include:  : z4 N; V& g3 d. D

, ~! A) a$ z0 Q; o2 {+ n•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 1 p) x+ ?4 t" _! [" U) R/ n1 ~
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
0 Q3 z4 V7 P2 |8 W  T' ]4 V$ F- athe Board of Directors;  
+ h& c, n8 ]2 }2 y•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations " [( ~( C2 U/ T
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
0 a/ u5 {" a( W4 k8 q; B+ {+ Lenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; " i3 \! h9 B4 G
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
7 h7 R8 e) s3 P! I' ]. hobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
% ^8 o1 V8 \3 \$ P! l* b4 othe board;  
* {( L- P8 `  |' R3 l9 R% w; V•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# e  T% S! z5 x  T# h  c6 @: p•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
, W$ N( }! y; Y8 ^- d, Z. y! O: }the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; # Z  W/ @, z# ^5 |
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the ' x) T# S4 M7 ^7 Z7 P" I( F) L
changing needs of the organization and community; : F9 V7 U8 p5 @3 x  E4 S( c
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ' r1 e, w/ m: k' L2 x5 x
commitments;
# Y- z* m7 |! C5 ^0 R" p1 b•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  8 v5 ~4 g3 f; @
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective / F+ i3 j: _5 u
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
4 e! T1 ^  ^; F& G% p3 d& k•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
# V; f0 j6 e4 p" W1 S1 B•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
5 Y& t2 E. b8 Z) s" T( w0 Feffectively and positively represent the association;

" v6 f' }  k1 l, n0 b. `& U8 V1 M•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 3 N/ g1 s/ H% d9 A( B
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
) ^: D4 }/ P* Z' ?, D•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal % T& u* `& [/ Y( f% S: j- @/ U& U
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
  D: q3 @+ ~7 q& I6 |, @the forthcoming year;  
! t' a4 M, z1 Q: T% J; G1 d' \: f8 Q4 L•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
, d' d$ B) s2 J- i7 b4 fpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 5 I  A9 O( ~( f4 r
YWCA Canada; and
7 Y# a1 j, A# ^% v•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 5 p! w0 u: H( I1 s
Forces.

1 Y% U* j# M- Q9 b/ Z7 T* V2 B•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; : y7 A+ k/ \! X& T4 ]
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
3 Q% ?; ^2 m* saround decisions, plans and actions;
* j  r8 o6 P# A1 L•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
) ?) o- B) x. a3 C+ C•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 8 D, A! s5 B: c, \
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
) z+ K$ N3 i7 V4 q% E' K•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 7 @/ ^7 k- w: ^* O$ z; b

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and ' {# f1 B. a2 e! F- r$ a
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification + Q3 r8 v* i, N5 u
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
! }  j" U2 J+ T6 N1 {& Y( M: w
& {% L$ R2 S% c1 e- l+ [+ BRequired Experience
- ^/ `7 ]) n9 f$ w6 Q- f1 J9 _•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; : M6 b7 f- O% ~. @6 y1 u
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation / @* T- {$ \2 t9 N$ Z9 G- `
abilities; ) E% u; M0 W8 Y# e1 q  \
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
3 x% N  h1 Q: ^% Q! `" o9 Y9 v. HNetworking and Fundraising; & i! V8 C7 f+ R$ v0 ~
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
1 i+ L( @' i7 F  c" _( ]and financial statements; and & e2 L! {0 u7 k2 z( F/ U
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women - R; f) u9 m! S. Y1 u4 r
centered perspective.
