0 r( ^! s( I1 h8 Wthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
1 O4 W; ^! f6 C+ v6 Q8 k- D- m! `" g' [Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and # z5 S; R! K+ i0 M
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and , J$ M/ t- Z: W7 i" s7 w
execution of the YWCA Strategy ) X" S* D& z! W" |) @

, ]' }; F0 R: _: `! v. [Specific responsibilities include:  # N" j. M2 @  F8 |9 d
0 w/ y! L' Q+ \8 |+ \( U
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
( d! Y; f. o  t0 \+ uthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 4 G4 f: h5 h' \
the Board of Directors;  * t2 D7 a, V0 t: g/ L- E
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations " p; p# o  ?4 j1 ]  ~0 a( G
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
7 u# l  r. G0 K4 }$ u/ |, Qenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
  `2 |) |& t% b8 f. p( h% m•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 8 w5 Q; a8 @. {* u0 t/ {
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
  ^- ~0 j% v! x' L; L& u: K. n, dthe board;  & x5 Q$ o: ]' I1 G/ G4 j6 _% x3 e
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  1 x0 @) w1 o. B5 [6 w' q" A& g
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion + ?; V6 g' E( S' N
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
. _( U$ i3 o0 x3 Z2 f# Q/ U1 x•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 2 z5 T# f& V+ v) r
changing needs of the organization and community;
2 i* k$ T( R* E5 }' T$ P3 w•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue : _9 K( Q$ @" A+ C" S
commitments; + u; c/ Q; ^2 U, E. ^8 g
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
) I" R) H$ {; k# m& S•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective $ [$ _8 Z& N6 V7 \
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  4 h6 @4 J; Z" j: V7 a& ~
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ; B' b$ ?( s7 N$ j6 P; n
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to $ Z" d* v* E- J( m
effectively and positively represent the association; 1 U! n$ o6 z' n: r3 e

' w3 [! `) }; l% ?# \) `( i: j•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring + K: B" W, c" c4 g" I
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
8 c& ?. m8 h- W4 K) I•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
( A  w/ b. M; S; K5 rperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED * [% Z* k1 k+ B$ G# Z
the forthcoming year;  5 {" O# x8 I( ?9 Y$ L8 @
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
& j3 k% U0 b+ b/ D: L, F! Bpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
0 m. p5 J- r8 T/ @3 }( nYWCA Canada; and 5 Q% ?& C1 J5 v! H
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
# T) @8 f' E+ q/ J% A0 [1 z3 }Forces.

" w, V- p) n0 ?0 }Required Skills & Abilities
+ s9 X+ I# p* v, M; \& s2 k% `•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
! B. l6 N$ h7 u& O•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus * ]/ _5 o5 {+ L# g. X: T
around decisions, plans and actions;
- l) ~5 @4 p% L! f•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
6 r9 t4 t9 S- m3 y$ D1 u7 A•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
4 u/ a) g3 o7 o/ K6 N$ z9 W7 ^and achievable with realistic timeframes;
( J0 ?  X# G: Q- z0 Y) }3 t•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks . d, g0 H2 Q/ W9 g& ~5 R
simultaneously; ( L3 p4 [3 W( m( ?1 }: i
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build # s4 f1 A0 M( L! L" q3 P" r
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
6 I9 A% U: U, d  V' u•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and : n$ Z6 T2 }) r. @1 A+ W5 ^
•  Superior negotiation skills.

3 W; g: T* I- H( {2 ? Required Professional Designation / Certification - l0 K  \9 j9 Z# q. p% I- k
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 3 ?* b& @- J' N# Z  i6 k9 i: M
5 K$ M* b& R4 \/ r+ a+ j
Required Experience % z( c0 V' [+ A; C1 w- G1 J+ V
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
! B& h; X4 n4 T. T0 q0 K4 W•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
# ?3 P9 o, j0 G' rabilities;
5 i9 k" f9 E# e1 x3 v$ a•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) d3 m+ y# U5 A7 ]- `
Networking and Fundraising; 7 @3 U+ C1 y. d/ a; j* s
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
% j. W5 X) E  }/ R( q0 sand financial statements; and
" j; O! j, A: l& c0 T, m6 ~5 b9 s•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women , r' K$ P, L) e  v! W
centered perspective. 5 V! |4 U' w# m' e7 Y% ?4 n; E
