The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 7 {& d$ s; X' `; ?4 v3 J

this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 4 N( Y( }6 i. A& k3 a/ l6 m% q
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 5 ~; \9 A4 ^( y; H) V
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

9 {7 O+ E6 Y7 I4 B9 f3 _/ aReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
" @4 V3 i2 \; m' [/ Hexecution of the YWCA Strategy ; f  a. I' ?, S# R4 s9 Q

" d% c/ @% E; q. N- cSpecific responsibilities include:  # G. D. }% `" k+ Y

. f4 d) W( P! l( ^•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of % T; j% W5 P$ {  g& s  `# u
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
# X( }5 G2 p8 O) H0 o5 z- d! nthe Board of Directors;  1 Z: w$ Y, }0 W" C+ p  E2 a0 w
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations $ i/ I7 z4 ~/ k# r: c
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ; T3 x9 D% g# W
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;   N: r* U. B8 p# w5 n( O% @
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
! F( u  p1 B) m# t" ~- hobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by ; x2 B/ s. J4 ~/ b( l9 _
the board;  
# R5 u3 f' ?# `. H•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
; V; N% u/ L- }5 X$ l•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion . O2 P2 n, [+ L1 R7 C, u( c
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
  H# @7 Y- _, K•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
& N1 C* ?& o* d1 Echanging needs of the organization and community; ( a& M0 `) a+ R4 Y" U
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
; T- u; b, R9 ucommitments;
5 J( s4 z- V8 v. Y6 ^•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
( E. A4 ^( n" D0 T4 H1 ?" }•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 0 D3 x6 z% V8 \  u" [' C' j
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
7 j) h4 {* ]% C2 L•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 3 Z6 D& j2 N/ S: s3 y) C
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to " p- z& \% Q; _) y
effectively and positively represent the association; ! R6 ]6 m, j' @8 u* D
3 G- f  i$ @5 a" u8 r
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring   {- N% Q1 I& U. }1 m- p6 `
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
4 k) ]% ?4 z* h5 ]3 r! D•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal : ~3 M( n% [- w% G# n1 c1 S: R
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED . i9 @8 U% {( f1 B% ~( {+ {/ W) _
the forthcoming year;  3 x9 E9 @+ r1 B- h; d/ N( y3 w
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 N* Y1 ]( `% c# U1 i
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
. \2 c( L5 R* M; cYWCA Canada; and & l4 m. g5 S. L2 B8 Z: q2 ^& y4 z
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
- G. z8 F- g$ RForces.

1 ?  R. Y$ ?6 Q•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
3 ^3 V7 c/ W6 z  ~: Q6 h•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
( ]* ?' g$ z1 ]1 l- Jaround decisions, plans and actions;
7 x" h  s& s  Y$ O•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
0 P$ d7 `+ e! b5 q5 m6 {•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
1 u) L  v. f& D) p# @and achievable with realistic timeframes; + A* D- u7 C$ U, ?* m
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
5 }2 W9 A$ r* Q$ n3 x. S" ~& bsimultaneously;
8 z% o1 {+ b$ v; j$ M5 r7 d% }/ V•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
% T& j4 V; Z  b) a# f( \rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; / p5 i8 R1 x, E9 H9 }% ^# ~
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 2 f1 b+ A4 f5 V2 V7 r/ B
•  Superior negotiation skills.

% K, f. ~7 i; ]% O( D: _% m Required Professional Designation / Certification
( ^$ K  x1 R0 M3 w: j•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
( G/ d. k- l  F  ?) @ ! Q1 _! E. H6 b+ v% [) F
Required Experience
: b# c0 F& p8 h' J' t•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 v2 ?! b4 c% M* ?5 C- t•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation + o# E7 v" j/ U0 K1 c, ^- H
abilities;
7 K0 [( y% h1 g( u•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 4 ]4 {: L2 Q( q% B
Networking and Fundraising; " ^: O: c& a/ G2 j5 P
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 9 I# D% [( [2 a
and financial statements; and 9 W! U0 L$ d" J
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women - \6 D' U: \3 E: S8 L! M
centered perspective.
