this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 0 w5 N. i; P' Y
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and 8 h8 I. \* N1 o2 j6 A2 D  u
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA   v, O- m2 L/ ~' H3 I

9 M, G! m# x( X- ]  EReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ) k) X% y, D7 s
execution of the YWCA Strategy 5 _! j- E6 B( s8 P* I! q* S( [1 I

1 B; x% A3 E: v$ iSpecific responsibilities include:  + g- R, \- p1 P6 e/ V
2 e  _/ Q. _, x" Z3 D
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 5 I3 [: l5 B: J6 q, Q' p7 e
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 5 L; l0 f$ \. d5 q! z+ @" h
the Board of Directors;  2 [( ~( S) Y7 M+ ^" U
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
/ Q6 L- i* {+ Y6 s! b! Pincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to % T2 X1 e0 Q2 C# \4 M
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 7 s" E6 G& }- Z
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
, B2 J! m# l4 U/ Gobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 6 o3 Y" V& S& l/ {  v6 e
the board;  . ]% B& D9 A" W. m, ?8 b
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ( I6 x& L, l. ~* _
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
% P( d. M# q% sthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 9 _( W+ R! v7 E! x5 q  C- r2 B$ a
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
6 O+ ]! h% X5 y* ^$ Pchanging needs of the organization and community; . W0 l+ s# I, B5 u
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
1 t( }+ d& q( W" ^# w) s5 tcommitments; & H  Y: R  K, j- C. q
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  9 t; r+ b6 H& n; _# [6 o
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective , ~0 F" k- U% m3 ^0 J1 \; S3 R
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;    N8 f1 y3 T" ]: o
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; % D1 k7 l2 Q! J" b- m# g& _. _7 @
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
% V  F. ?1 U9 s9 peffectively and positively represent the association; 5 {. B, a, v) j+ c+ r+ k7 r9 p

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
3 N! b5 ?: D& D, Y+ z  Pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  . G! k- T) H0 F2 g- I- T2 q2 E
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
: B/ B5 E8 q" [% u9 A' _' Uperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 1 J8 H5 `6 p& h1 {+ P
the forthcoming year;  
8 Z& _7 r8 K5 U0 t4 P" S% S9 B•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 T+ d1 m) A# v) U, g9 F) P
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of * N) N$ e2 C  k- Q
YWCA Canada; and
- t$ s) I& Y! c4 J•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 8 ~/ y% W, z/ g( j8 |; Q

Required Skills & Abilities
+ N8 _1 n" h4 i  k( a& l1 e•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
3 A1 C7 A, H( I, S0 X& p•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
6 ?/ Z: C( I# a+ T  faround decisions, plans and actions;
! p5 c& C: G7 Y9 C8 Z•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 1 f4 p( R( K+ d- b3 D  D/ j
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
; I1 q, d" h' hand achievable with realistic timeframes; / H( R& F- V" F8 d( s! Z4 ^- {
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
9 O$ B3 k0 L1 U/ c, A# Wsimultaneously; / a5 j; w& Z# s
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
& g, H2 g' v9 ]5 D$ Hrapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;

•  Superior negotiation skills.

& Y) C: D! O* J5 j2 C: r2 \: H•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 9 \9 P' [& n0 J) `8 f. t& k( A: ]

Required Experience
/ z" R6 c6 O: F: U2 G+ z5 }•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 6 O5 B+ @- P7 I( M" {
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
; V+ r% ?# S/ S0 ^' Iabilities; ( y3 D! D3 Y- [: T9 Z
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
4 u- ?* q* D$ i7 A8 b( uNetworking and Fundraising; # B5 k8 ~) Y8 Z/ a" Z
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting & q8 A5 m: E1 H! T
and financial statements; and
; m$ x" S* l6 [•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
( o! m2 [7 I: w3 D, s, ~4 Xcentered perspective. : l0 q" z* u3 V8 o# A3 x
