The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic : E( y) q. j: Z5 g# l
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead # w: ?  n1 m/ c3 P2 u+ @
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA " @9 k/ k5 `( ^& h0 S; T
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and + t2 p5 x2 a* ~
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA   Y+ t1 f; W; C! o8 ]. j3 t& F

5 t9 `9 z7 H6 J6 _" y  [5 pReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and % F8 C9 v! B3 o" H: V/ C
execution of the YWCA Strategy
  V. X6 k1 E% d: ~* Y* b
& f0 Q# B: G9 }- y4 t, ASpecific responsibilities include:  
4 {) q7 Y, [3 u+ a7 i, r
& j  Y: r. F: R$ j•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
/ c3 g9 E2 @  X  n; v0 zthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
. G9 X" D0 y6 }9 x, a) R3 gthe Board of Directors;  
3 I; g9 J+ Q6 p+ A- b$ m•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
" o/ ~/ D7 U; G7 |- @  ^0 bincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ' x4 A* y% i4 M( D' [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
+ l3 }. s' i6 r/ d! B•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 5 m+ m6 H# Y4 d
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
- U) G) f5 ^7 |/ ?the board;  
. C7 w7 }& e, D% j+ h•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
/ }: p2 J' Z- _) H5 a4 _•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 6 [8 w; R1 u0 M
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 6 P* M8 S% @! j0 t9 R
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
7 {3 s3 \* v2 H! xchanging needs of the organization and community;
$ Z% w4 g/ R3 c3 @9 V•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
6 s6 d- q7 Q; I0 r; U8 N( dcommitments; 1 S* z! O! j# G7 I
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
6 W, j$ w5 L( c! ~8 D' E•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
$ B: ~" Q& {+ Uselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
$ r0 G. \/ U) T/ X•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
$ u; o* |' a( I4 j' K$ b" L•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
2 l0 \7 X$ C* X; k! s( y0 Aeffectively and positively represent the association; 8 O3 W8 m- l0 K

•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring / m- J. d! p% p9 \3 f: x0 ^
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  # J; Z: L/ Z1 E
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 4 t: I9 Y0 a0 r) N1 H1 h
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
8 e/ x7 i* I( w. c( V% k8 t- wthe forthcoming year;  
2 d4 Z: \6 Q# c•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
9 n* s. U; @, f8 ~; Lpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
/ o; X9 J2 K  F/ ^  CYWCA Canada; and
+ |. h: l5 r# W/ U/ a•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
9 v/ |9 I+ O% i7 ^2 L1 j4 w6 P4 JForces.

Required Skills & Abilities
  k9 K( c9 p. a6 p•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; . x3 }" m  R: e& G1 ~: G
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ' w3 ^/ r1 y, B
around decisions, plans and actions;
3 t. h; X0 [4 a0 j+ S•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; , y( V8 Q0 q) |9 _
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable 8 ]' b+ [% Y: Y
and achievable with realistic timeframes; 7 ]( m6 s5 Z: ~
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ' [( _$ L3 n" D* R
simultaneously;
2 }( @' T. F* `•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
! a. c8 R# P, C) `7 l- \% O/ |rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
9 _1 T" Q, ?8 c" [& H2 P•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 2 U# }9 D* ~  e( b+ R( u6 J( {  a
•  Superior negotiation skills.

- n& [% A6 f& Q( e" M Required Professional Designation / Certification % {% J3 n" r* ]2 @/ Q/ P1 y
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 6 p$ C9 v! f" e# r
. j' U& B5 b) }) X9 A# Q+ n
Required Experience , s, s1 w. f$ I: H
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; ( S$ P9 D! y5 e/ [* ^5 T  i6 u
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation & E4 @3 V7 b$ [' ]- _
abilities;
7 q6 K; g* b# w5 }% E% C  b•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
& B! B+ A4 N+ r0 j+ n8 dNetworking and Fundraising;
* L) ^: O% F% F+ Y! |+ e6 S•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting " [4 P5 C; p5 n" @# G4 B4 @/ ]: Z
and financial statements; and
" l% A+ W8 k7 f- o; \5 p•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
2 ]% `! O9 b; A3 qcentered perspective.
