this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
5 z4 R) t# s; {/ ]+ u9 j4 lEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
0 e- C$ r5 f- D3 Tsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA

Responsibilities - |# V* U! j* z5 n

4 r; O: m, M; W# BReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and . t( V% [3 Q9 s: X: q5 m- u$ p
execution of the YWCA Strategy $ }. r6 L; x* ]: g# y' R: d

5 {7 F. y2 U1 b, e: eSpecific responsibilities include:  3 h7 K& k: e; d( D! o5 p" b
2 o9 ]% ?% c, G" b5 @5 h$ x) G2 c
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
* {. r8 }" N  f$ S9 r  x+ wthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 9 ~3 b# J4 F' g3 Q
the Board of Directors;  0 R# ?! K) H* }/ n1 o* H
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
- y% i, L* P4 v/ ?+ a3 f" k! Jincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 3 q% g1 _7 w3 b: }9 Z( O
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; 6 t- ]; C5 b, F, L
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 1 K7 x- r- x5 T/ _! L
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by 7 t" p" u" ?; y7 H8 ~0 M' w& x
the board;  
  ~" T5 _, p/ a: ^•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ' A' m* ]4 i& v/ Z  s2 r
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion & E5 z* `7 @2 L3 N
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; / k0 v: B6 [4 T7 t% G
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
; |, j( K! P! b, l* _changing needs of the organization and community; + a1 h: g% }) B6 s& z1 q
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
; r! L2 x( g+ C. s4 W/ w' y8 ocommitments; " k4 I5 }5 t3 v! R5 H; h4 z4 m% S
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  4 t$ H$ n# {+ i  F/ E& ~% K
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
) w$ R$ L" y- |" P( ?8 Y4 }5 Jselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ) a3 F0 n- C" I
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
0 ?9 T7 {* d1 J/ G6 {•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
& B& Z2 v; W) geffectively and positively represent the association; ( w- B5 E/ y. b3 o

& ?5 l" j$ M- y/ X•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
/ W6 ^" \, J: E. A/ A( {the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
% q5 Q: Y% O# j•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
2 s5 r$ H  L4 {" c; Z; Kperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 3 d  f" w* U: z; @4 u
the forthcoming year;  : R! h7 i* O9 |2 S  H
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ) Z9 {" f2 O; T  z3 d
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 4 K2 R- h4 r) X4 `3 U6 R
YWCA Canada; and
+ x% X, e6 s# L- B6 r•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task : P" O. _- ]8 V$ g! i

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus

•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
) J" G  A2 y! j& z8 B8 H•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
* X7 o$ A8 A8 l9 y* }! qand achievable with realistic timeframes; : \" A* K1 t  S" J
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
- ]# U* b: a4 U; g& K3 Isimultaneously; ! r; X) c% }: N( }& z; H
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
- m& R* r+ X  k% \5 b' k& a0 Urapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
) h0 J4 S' s; L$ `•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

! H7 B& ]8 S5 A! `( f  Q•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. + d  `+ l) E1 J' z5 M, y
9 L: c( O! k- ]! C
Required Experience ) u0 D7 i9 f+ ^- |
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
+ v4 n7 r( o8 N4 \0 }•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
/ F4 y. \8 Y$ Nabilities;   p& o( P. U; L: \; k
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
' O* r  j' `/ Z# {2 Y2 K4 x6 k1 qNetworking and Fundraising;   |: P, v% x  y4 k4 [  I
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 3 A% ^5 _* Q8 T/ d) H2 m* o0 y
and financial statements; and / r7 {) Y4 H! a" B: o
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women + X; \  N1 w& r' b
centered perspective.
