9 H1 F) o! E* T$ Q# Jthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
# h9 D/ S, d+ m( Q$ MEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
! E& O; m0 I; n) j6 A, hsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
' c: `8 t! ^& v+ u" C# h1 bEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
* _/ n) c3 A* X5 b. o/ `: m: z0 Kexecution of the YWCA Strategy 2 `/ ], ^+ A# r6 q
" J" q2 R2 W! \) f/ z& ]
Specific responsibilities include:  
" g5 u9 H( C; C+ p: N  c 5 F: U9 R2 H, W
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
' k9 v$ F5 [6 W7 M, {# ?; _; Q- Sthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
: z! R; S/ g2 _the Board of Directors;  & ~, {4 t% ]. C+ |2 \6 i
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations 1 O( Z* W% z" o- r* U
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
% v, Z; x. u: W$ P$ \" kenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; , Q; B. T" w6 ]
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
) ^. C0 U$ I  ?' Eobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by # Q1 x3 r4 y$ C/ v1 m+ X, h
the board;  
2 T7 |+ _8 \. V& J- ^. i* C( k3 ~•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  2 E: v1 T. i+ N- ?! Q* c1 N! q
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 2 ^4 ]: ^0 O# v0 }9 B6 S
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; " `- x2 m$ v- e" g  N' Y
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
" z' y+ X8 `  Y2 tchanging needs of the organization and community; 4 n# X  n, s7 L6 _7 B$ T' ?
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
+ W9 ~5 I& H) P" g- bcommitments;
0 L" @6 x6 R1 _•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
  S/ [6 m; Y+ ^7 I•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
1 [3 ~# T  A1 m; z- y% v8 A! Eselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  # H/ }6 V" t. A8 k/ W: j# L
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; ' d4 i' c' J, [8 i
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to # N* {, f% L$ z( c  H
effectively and positively represent the association; 5 X+ W* t9 C* ~) i, L* P% K, ~1 _
: Z# F  G" P' d# {/ ]
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring - A) [9 G8 Z; _! [: f
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
! A" N7 g4 v, ]+ g, @: g$ E6 ?•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal , W5 _- ]7 ~6 N9 C: F/ {* I. i
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ( w# t# E% \% D* Z" n5 [" B
the forthcoming year;  
) [9 `1 m  ^4 b) t•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
: z  u/ Q3 b, ]( h; G3 Ypractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of . F( K( j! R  r1 q
YWCA Canada; and
! a: O3 o. e& z. P* J7 n; y1 G* \•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
0 S0 E/ |$ n& y# B3 qForces.  : e5 ]' A" ]5 S: d2 G4 m8 ~

Required Skills & Abilities
0 ^- U, N0 B: W: _  F' N  c* H' a•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
& k. Y: R. o  Y; E3 }. B' U" t•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus ' X6 Z1 T! y) D! B# r( _
around decisions, plans and actions;
9 A4 Z& H8 q$ V9 D# h/ |# |/ \•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 6 A. S, a7 z3 C" @- y7 U
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable   R+ W6 g2 y2 v+ e. _
and achievable with realistic timeframes;
! s5 `5 `5 o2 `1 O•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 5 k0 q6 l* S+ I) \9 M- H
simultaneously; - g; V0 R! [' ]6 c. q9 L
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
5 p% _7 ?, }4 g4 H# x( {rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
9 |- G6 f0 P, N•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and & n$ b8 S! I0 \: T& P0 K1 Z: d
•  Superior negotiation skills. . ]- g# A7 g. F* R

+ x0 K4 i6 a6 u$ t" G& w) e Required Professional Designation / Certification
) I( Q$ P3 ^; b0 h3 E1 q6 c, D•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 1 n5 b& J5 n; F* @& j5 \3 [7 _

+ M; |) ^+ d0 H# L5 ~Required Experience $ [- P; A" _9 ~# j% J
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; " t7 I9 V  _  }+ {
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation + h) e( ]; O: m+ G, ]
abilities; + ?: L) C, E6 i
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, - R$ g# H( Y1 j$ T; N" S2 b! c
Networking and Fundraising; % Z/ r: H  w+ }3 {, j6 w
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 2 q. X- }/ `. K: W8 r
and financial statements; and
# K0 I6 T  S' W4 s. e( F: |•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women ' N% w  z4 D' E! g' [
centered perspective. ! n8 T( c4 o: U: {& c: u
