The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
; r6 H; t6 {7 |, P, t2 d8 ithinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
7 Q9 Y( ^6 u; u$ k1 `this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
3 ^+ L" r- ~" X  kEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
: F* q3 i. T2 _: Vsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
: g+ t# i# x4 CEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities
4 N8 h. H* E3 r# A4 l) d# y) z2 {6 A
& |5 O& s$ ~* \/ [4 YReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and ( O# P+ T& b, d9 F) B1 ^+ E  |
execution of the YWCA Strategy
% v2 A" q2 [5 y5 C 6 ]- h& J7 `, ~" i1 X, r' t
Specific responsibilities include:  " a/ u1 l! B9 U; P5 i1 \8 h

) H- q# S1 ~; I! J  i7 M( \2 u* ^5 G: L•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 3 E( |6 a  z( w& p- @
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by / q4 O2 b; o& B) p) k! y
the Board of Directors;  
9 ]. f# @( b% Q+ ?3 z: w•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
* l- `" l& D0 |; E+ N' e6 g6 Jincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to " Y8 w& k/ [4 T, T1 @& F' O6 F
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; - ?6 y7 r, Z) ^# X
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and / v5 f' }4 k" @% x8 R, b6 P/ l0 y
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
* b' U8 P8 G" i) B- Lthe board;  5 p1 K4 V9 `0 t# S
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  ) X8 q# M2 I! Q
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion 4 t! u) P0 d' e% ]4 ~
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
) Z9 ?# j" o6 F* j. [0 p# _& Y•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
* L# I. T: J  w3 w, rchanging needs of the organization and community;
* W6 S. l. V3 N•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue % n8 m8 N3 S9 o7 J4 B, _; Y
commitments;
0 c" J) I2 q& }6 E•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  5 A9 j4 O3 ?% \# q
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective - W$ A  g6 ]9 W2 c2 z  C
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
2 U9 g/ Q  q4 e. v& t5 m•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; : K# i& q+ m( M
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
& `, J( M4 J. q4 k( feffectively and positively represent the association;
' q6 y2 w6 e7 I% v0 {. X- L* d# O4 j. `2 ?/ C
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring ) ~: O6 t# C- l- K2 M. c* o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  : |" _# M5 @5 }1 D
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal ) [, `  W3 Z6 C( h1 x+ a% j+ D
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
, ]/ L) V' H% tthe forthcoming year;  
: M+ R& p( V* M! [) B4 H•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
- k7 ^" h/ ?5 \4 A  l! ?; I: ~practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 4 u) s5 d8 V7 P& s/ n) c
YWCA Canada; and
) ^7 E( m" u* Y" t: m7 N& S! G6 z•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
3 P. V- i5 Q$ j& BForces.  ; [, a$ L  ?! t+ s3 ]' {- w2 S
  1 k; ?8 N& K; U. ]" r) G/ A
Required Skills & Abilities
; h5 g3 ?& _- I2 x  K3 ]•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 2 z" ^- W; e) M, u$ m; I0 ]" U6 `/ L
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 8 F$ o( P0 G( `* m" P( b5 w* o
around decisions, plans and actions;
3 ]* }  P# k9 d" D•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; ; _: w4 M& j/ K" d$ x+ `% E" [5 ^
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
; a/ w& w" L9 F3 Xand achievable with realistic timeframes; - q  L0 r% {3 H9 w  w8 d
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks / ?. x1 @9 R' X( b) Q0 ~
simultaneously;
9 a! Y* c, l1 ?2 k1 A9 j1 W•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build / I  b9 `2 S6 Q5 f
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; % ~# @3 a- `% e( C6 y
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 7 D# \, q9 B1 \5 r" G- S
•  Superior negotiation skills.

4 E! f% }0 w/ p! f4 c" X2 x Required Professional Designation / Certification
2 {" X7 _6 K, ?$ f' F•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
) a+ v+ `- ]; d, A1 e+ x7 b. f" B
6 q& z) }& i5 h& y- nRequired Experience . ^* B& F6 @5 o
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 Z0 o6 X* c1 V/ \& Y$ s/ ~9 J1 o•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation   w# v3 N' i9 P/ [/ \( H) M0 m' d
abilities;
! y' I' ^" R0 ]6 W$ R•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
$ A/ b) o# t' JNetworking and Fundraising;
; f% e  T" Z& x) K8 g•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
; L/ D# ]+ m* ^( U+ L/ y- @$ |and financial statements; and " T- a7 p+ T1 K4 a
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 4 D0 S8 [& `* a
centered perspective.
