( w6 a) X: D# R0 |8 Dthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 2 W9 A, x, g! B8 @  R  {
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and " t3 v( D( K0 E
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
' R9 z, T# s9 U' T4 qEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
; i! n* p% k3 n& B& Oexecution of the YWCA Strategy
6 n' [+ R+ X6 ]. m
& O% r* X  F% B# G( @. ASpecific responsibilities include:  
* P1 m1 N* E1 F3 F" g5 @4 {' f
/ m' v' j& C& C) {# e( U# g% ^$ k$ |•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
2 v0 C! z" F& Y0 ?, _/ I: Mthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 0 u6 Z( n9 k$ `8 ~; f
the Board of Directors;    C) {8 x# g4 g5 P/ I& d5 ^
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
6 C9 h; i  [0 L0 c1 {$ {including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to ) g- _% u+ {1 I5 l: \! ]' w" t
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
$ K5 E. k2 \1 ]3 d, ~2 e' j•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
! x  V& x) U0 g1 n: lobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
2 a) ]  ]' O# u( w% Kthe board;  6 U9 F+ Q& A& A5 Q) q: |
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
: `/ P5 i- J; G' h•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion & U; P4 S- E# W+ I
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
! R: ?9 _7 ^4 Y- N•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / w7 v8 `/ `$ g  ~+ I: }
changing needs of the organization and community; % H7 D$ S9 i, q. o7 }
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
1 S$ h9 [# G$ G. W! Fcommitments;
4 ]" G# L: \6 `% ?. N: `•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
/ L0 n" R* T0 Q•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
8 S* |0 S6 {$ \selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
( D+ n6 t- _" l" D•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
/ ~% ~# G4 }0 A0 v0 q•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
- d& |( {2 V% @$ }8 h) Y9 Oeffectively and positively represent the association;
% T, F$ y" A3 K! e( U7 p# A7 B) C6 |4 E/ c  l
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
5 v( M3 N' ]/ K5 [" |8 g) ?, \the implementation of systems to manage these risks;    a! K) m$ L8 P" F5 ?
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
( C4 T9 \# a1 s3 k+ j8 D6 B( e* N: q* zperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
( T/ R% m+ d2 q5 T' B) Z2 gthe forthcoming year;  : Y* o9 ^: `/ l* q+ b
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical ! l6 P* r2 X5 j& I0 C, b* J
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
( r4 }4 H) g, J% `3 GYWCA Canada; and
* K. U" @5 r  Z3 M: Y•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 2 g( I+ B4 q, c+ V) K6 c# l3 K

Required Skills & Abilities $ f1 G0 b5 N& a# d
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
3 m9 L+ S) i! q# |" E! d•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus $ O2 p' X' H" N4 X1 U! _
around decisions, plans and actions;
. F0 y1 V% \( e- n5 B7 D4 `# m•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; 9 w1 A  k( Q1 v2 m' `( g
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
9 a" ^  d* j3 S) v; e& G  X& Oand achievable with realistic timeframes;
3 w0 F% `8 X1 k1 G•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
$ Y, h" X5 w1 w% q4 i4 l8 g* ]simultaneously; ! V; Z5 k& s  C% J
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
* {/ C$ \5 r9 h  n/ T( J8 U! ?rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
& u/ n& V4 A& k& I2 A  A& N* x# r# e8 m•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
/ |' g- d; `3 B" ~, U# k  C•  Superior negotiation skills. + Z2 E, _  ?. C3 b% q

Required Professional Designation / Certification
! G' Y) I! \* ^% g# e•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
2 K0 V, e# |8 ^  a' X  K* s - P/ s$ b% a/ o2 C( X
Required Experience 5 W) i5 c0 Y* ]3 j- e" M' e
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
4 \1 d2 d) i# r1 H•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
& v1 p0 M$ B! h/ E4 W2 }abilities; 4 j3 J, _* ]! K' ]$ ^
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,   ^0 K5 C( W" n" p: K. d
Networking and Fundraising; 5 W, q% G* y2 z) \4 T
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
& q. m* T$ T3 r; _6 f& Gand financial statements; and & d, [; R1 H1 {/ ~
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
8 O. b: P, g* y4 h& Ocentered perspective.
