A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.$ H8 T8 ]: U1 y1 A' Q3 J- e1 ]& ~) F

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.( c0 V- n; W) Q7 Q5 N
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA). ( w( R2 z$ [$ v4 s0 @

In a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.

CFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
