A baby food recall is underway as a popular Heinz baby cereal may contain elevated levels of a mycotoxin.9 }/ v* M5 I) _2 y9 E( X
4 c9 I1 L/ y; u% W( YThe Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Heinz Canada are warning parents about ‘Heinz Mixed Cereal, Stage 2, From 6 Months’. The best before date codes located on the top left hand corner of the package are ‘BB/MA 10 DE 26’ and ‘BB/MA 10 DE 29’.6 ]7 q `. A' `+ l/ ^( y
No illnesses have been reported from consuming the cereal. Heinz Canada says that the cereal may contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A (OTA).

In a news release, CFIA says Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and has been classified by as a possible human carcinogen.7 G- M% Y8 @, T9 D$ n n

CFIA says that if a child has consumed the food, there is no need to seek medical attention since the substance is not harmful when eaten as part of a healthy diet over the short term.
