July Meeting
Agenda
Time: 3:00pm-5:30pm, Sunday, July 10, 2005
Location: Williams Hawrelak Park Picnic Site#1
Main Topics:
I) What we did in June
II) What we will do in the future three months
Attendance: 14 members (See attachment)

Minutes

1. Call to order
Qiang Li called for the meeting at 2:30pm

2. What we did since last meeting and inspirations ignitedi) Football team
Qiang Li: Football game becomes regular weekly activity, 17 people getting registered; with team sportswear; participated in two matches. Needs to go indoors as soon as winter comes.
Xiaofeng Deng: the football team needs a name and might get sponsors

Consensus: the football team belongs to EMIS, it is one of the activities of EMIS; Sponsors and renaming are acceptable.

ii) EMIS registration
Haihua Yun: EMIS registration form returned from government due to the unsynchronized procedure of application and payment.
Victor Wang: received payment receipt.
Haihua Yun: will take care of the reapplication.

iii) Workshop
Fan Yang: more than 20 people attended the workshop for new and old immigrants, needs to organize more and regular workshop.
Leo: we can invite settlement officers from the government to give lectures or workshop to the new immigrants in our society.
Victor Wang: workshop can be on various topics, such as how to go to hospital, etc.

Consensus: Min Li is in charge of workshop.

iv) Dance Party
Xiaofeng Deng: Around 10 people in our society attended the Dance party organized by CSSA. There is a necessity for us to provide such opportunities to enrich the cultural life.
Victor Wang: Since September, dance party or sports games can be held in Meyonark School once two weeks. Get consensus.

3. What we will do in the future three months?
i) Beijing Opera workshop
Victor Wang: will contact an expert on Beijing opera for a workshop

ii) Team spirit
Fan Yang: we need to unite other organizations and work together to promote our society.

iii) To pick up Strawberries
Xiaofeng Deng: it is strawberry season now; do we organize strawberry picking up in the name of EMIS?
Consensus: Fan yang is in charge of organizing strawberry picking up via www.edmontonchina.com

iv) Society construction
Haihua Yun: Filing needs to be more systematic.
Victor Wang: Newsletter is necessary for the filing and promotion of our society.
Min Xu: Hard copies of newsletter monthly to put at the door of Chinese supermarkets or restaurants can help.
Leo: small project-oriented groups should be set up for efficiency and responsibility.
Discussion: cost on publishing or copying might be a barrier

Consensus: Set up an EMIS Newsletter Editing Group of 6 people: Min Xu, Qiang Li, Victor Wang, jie Xie Haihua yun and Xiansen Lu

Haihua yun: Create Q & A about EMIS on www.edmontonchina.com
Leo: Tell people in China about EMIS

v) New immigrants’ settlement:
Qing Dong: we need to standardize the service for new immigrants
Leo: a follow-up visiting after the settlement is necessary. A whole new immigrant support plan is to assist new immigrants continuously since their landing.
Xiaofeng Deng: Service might be free and some needs to charge new immigrants, such as to share gas for garage sale, airport pickup or temporary housing program. Some people complain $25 per night is too expensive, but temporary housing needs the owner to do more preparation and follow-up afterwards. People sometimes have difficulty in understanding that. They feel help should be free.
Leo: This is a must-change concept for new immigrants. They will have to face the change anyway, so why don’t we teach them this lesson before they go to the real society. So the charged items can be listed in the New Immigrants Support Plan clearly.

Consensus: Xiaofeng Deng is in charge of the new immigrants' settlement support plan

vi) Mid-autumn Festival celebration
Fan Yang: suggest we focus on two annual Chinese Festivals: mid autumn Festival and Spring Festival.
Min Li: a big scale celebration for all Chinese in Edmonton will help promoting our society.
Victor Wang: a small scale is easy to manage.

Consensus: get prepared for both small and big scale celebration; a 6-member committee is set up for a trial on big scale celebration. Members are: Fan yang, Victor Wang, Leo(Oldnavy), Jie Xie, Min Li and Han Lu.

Assignments:
1) EMIS logo- Qiang Li and Min Xu, Due Monday July 11, 2005
2) EMIS business card- Han Lu; Due Tuesday July 12, 2005
3) Location contact- Victor Wang; Due Wednesday, July 13, 2005
4) Marketing- Min Li; Jie Xie and Han Lu
5) Posting on www.edmontonchina.com- Han Lu

vii) Choir
Han Lu: Compared with the choir performed by Vancouver Chinese Choir Association and Edmonton’s Red Maple Music Association; there is an urgent need to strengthen the local choir. We organize people and invite Xiaoli Du to teach? But where? Piano? Is there any way for EMIS to co-operate with the Red Maple or other local choirs?

Discussion: It helps to promote the image of Chinese in Edmonton. Our members can join their choir individually; or we can co-organize. Needs more discussion

Min Li: Will contact Peihua Shen and her husband for choir coaching issue.

争取严格按照会议决定一步步来：今天出会标，明天出名片，后天定地点；然后开始找赞助和演员，看进度而定是否有必要本周末聚聚通报情况和确定下一步进程。

埃德蒙顿普通话移民协会7月会议记录

时间: 2005年7月10日, 15:00-17:30,星期日

地点: Williams Hawrelak Park Picnic Site#1
会议议题:
1)6月份组织活动记录
2)未来3月内的组织计划安排
会员参加人数: 14人 (详见副页)

会议记录:
1.  会议开始:
14:30 PM,由李强组织会议

2.  自上次会议之后的活动记录和球队的建立
李强: 足球比赛已经成为每周例行活动,已经有17人为球队成员,并配有球队球衣.迄今为止已经参加了两场正式比赛.球队在冬季需要转入室内训练.
邓晓峰: 球队需要命名并且需要寻找赞助
最终统一意见: 球队属于EMIS,属于EMIS的活动之一，可以考虑寻找赞助和重新命名

3. EMIS注册
恽海华: EMIS政府注册申请表因为申请表和付费过程步调不一致被政府部门退回(收到注册申请,但未收到已付费证明)
Victor Wang: 已经收到已付费收据
恽海华: 下次重新申请的时侯要注意

4.  Workshop
老杨: 超过20人参加了新老移民座谈会,需要继续举办
Leo:我们可以邀请政府部门的移民工作人员在我们协会给新移民进行讲学或者是进行座谈会
Victor Wang: 座谈会教学的主题可以是多方面的,比如说怎样去医院看病,等等
最终统一意见: 有Min Li 负责座谈会教学

5.舞会
邓晓峰: 协会中大约有10人参加了由CSSA举办的舞会,我们也有必要组织类似的活动丰富文化生活
Victor Wang: 从9月起,舞会或是(小型)运动会可以在Meyonark 学校举行. 得到大家的认同

6. 未来3月的计划安排
1).京剧座谈会
Victor Wang: 会联系认识的京剧演员商谈座谈会

2) 团队精神
老杨: 我们需要联合其他组织并通过合作来提升我们的协会

3) 摘草莓活动
邓晓峰: 现时是草莓季节,我们是否有必要以EMIS名义组织一次摘草莓活动.
最终统一意见:由老杨负责通过网站形式组织摘草莓活动.

4) 协会结构:
恽海华:文档工作需要更加系统化
Victor Wang: Newsletter 对文档工作和提升协会（规范化）很有必要
许敏: 可以将月发行的newsletter复印件发送到华人超市或者是餐厅

讨论:出版和拷贝的成本可能会成为此计划的障碍
最终统一意见: 成立EMIS Newsletter 6人编委会,成员:许敏,李强,VictorWang,谢杰,恽海华,卢显森
恽海华: 在网站上建立疑问问答栏目（Q&A）
Leo: 向还在中国国内的准移民介绍和宣传EMIS

5) 新移民安家服务:
董庆:我们需要对新移民提供的服务进行标准化
Leo: 有必要在新移民安顿之后进行跟进性质的拜访,一套完整的新移民协助计划应该是在新移民登陆之后对其进行连续性的协助.
邓晓峰:对新移民的帮助有些可以免费,有些需要收费,比如在去Garage Sale的时候分摊汽油费,机场接机或者是临时住宿安排等.有些新移民抱怨住宿费每天25元太贵,但是对于临时住宿,房主需要作更多的准备工作和后期工作,个别新移民很难理解这一点,他们感觉帮助应该免费.
Leo: 对新移民来说,这是一个必须要更改的观念.无论如何他们要面对这种改变,在他们真正接处社会之前,为什么我们不先给他们上一课.所以,所有收费项目应该在新移民协助计划中明确列出.
最终统一意见:邓晓峰负责新移民安家协助计划

6)中秋联欢会
Fan Yang: 建议我们应该着重于两个中国的传统的一年一度的节日:中秋节和春节
Min Li: 举办一个面向全Edmonton华人的大型庆祝活动有助于提高我们协会的知名度.
Victor Wang:小型的活动便于管理

最终统一意见: 同时着手准备小型和大型庆祝活动;为大型庆祝活动成立一个6人试运行组委会,成员包括: Fan yang, Victor Wang, Leo(Oldnavy), 谢杰, Min Li 和吕菡.

任务分布:
1)  EMIS 协会会标- 李强和许敏，期限：星期一，7月11日，2005
2)  EMIS 名片：吕菡，期限：星期二，7月12日, 2005
3)  “选址”：Victor Wang，期限：星期三，7月13日，2005
4)  “宣传推广”- Min Li，谢杰和吕菡
5)  网站张贴：www.edmontonchina.com- 吕菡
7) 合唱团
吕菡: Edmonton红枫音乐协会和温哥华国韵合唱团和的演出相比较起来，非常有必要加强提高本地的合唱团水平。我们是否组建一个合唱团，然后邀请“杜晓丽”来教学？但是地点选在哪里？钢琴伴奏如何满足？有没有别的方法和当地的红枫音乐协会或者是其他的合唱团合作？

讨论: 可以对提高Edmonton的华人形象有所帮助，我们的会员可以以个人身份加入他们的合唱团，或者是采用组织间的合作形式，对此需要进一步讨论。

Min Li: 会联系Peihua Shen 和她的先生讨论合唱团教学的事宜.
