The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will

the other possibility.

- k% x& s) K/ B) @" [spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5 year phase-in
plan that would become known as "EuroEnglish".

. U8 F; {2 v4 p+ q4 zIn the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make
5 C3 ^8 R! P+ `/ r/ ~the sivil servants jump with joy.

/ G' g  m% A' Y# ^1 ~1 [The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up
% F* p4 z* S2 A! {/ j4 N2 Kkonfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

2 [' D! n. d' O! B6 rThere will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
7 R2 j% k4 B) J' f; t2 ^) K, Ztroublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like
fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to
1 o) T+ D( g% g, Zreach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always
5 [% K- O, ~: y% y" iben a deterent to akurate speling.
