Is it easy to be broken down?

& l; |7 z& f3 G g) p" `No, it breaks down slowly because of its high C:N. It makes a very attractive mulch as well, so if you have a lot of it I suggest spreading it on top of autumn leaves around trees or shrubs, or at the back of the bed where weeding is a chore.& q& z1 X+ b3 x: J1 v5 Q

Spruce needles are another matter - because they are thicker, and have a pointy end, they can poke you as you spread your compost - wear gloves and you will be fine.
