This fall, the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) will be launching a mentorship pilot program, where we aim to match skilled immigrants with mentors in their occupations.
. F, p! U' c" x' |& w7 [; A* YEligibility Criteria
. i6 f- b, X7 C) ]8 R6 U4 nAll potential mentee candidates are required to meet the following criteria:8 `* s8 {3 d4 f, C3 a! p
•An internationally educated professional living in Canada for three years or less
9 c* z1 f7 ]2 D: m% |+ K•Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post secondary education
! {% m3 \: c1 c8 V9 ~; R+ {0 M•Have Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 or higher in oral English
; o0 g6 V& V. i0 p3 t [" d* M•At least three years work experience in their area of expertise outside of Canada $ p/ U0 J- q8 G* S
•No prior Canadian work experience in their field
6 l% B3 a$ p. v/ ^0 b! w7 @" I•Be unemployed or underemployed – working for 20 hours a week or less
: Y- h/ E: ]# }- F; L•Be eligible to work in Canada
0 }( v# _+ H; b( ~$ A•Have a job ready resume and have completed a job search workshop9 e6 N+ f4 u# W- Z$ o) [9 y
•Lack access to professional networks
/ Z. B+ X! J5 l# R•Be motivated to participate and be open to learning+ I% h1 `) q; ]" V; y
Time Commitment
* ]. V9 |& h2 h: W$ `( |The maximum number of hours involved in the ERIEC mentorship program is 6 hours a month for a total of 24 hours over 4 months. This works out to approximately one and a half hours per week.
