A 20-year-old woman has been charged after a tenant found the dead body of a baby girl under a bed in a north-end Edmonton home last week.

/ P# M/ Z D, mNaomi Russell-Simpson is charged with committing an indignity to a body, neglect to obtain assistance in child birth and concealing the body of a child.) Q+ z1 i; I2 n5 K& p& J

Police have released few details on the autopsy results, but said Tuesday the girl was born alive. The girl's death is still being labelled as suspicious and not a homicide.

8 Q6 U0 o' M% b: }The infant was found on March 19 when a man sharing a home at 69 Street and 130 Avenue, who would only identify himself as Wayne, entered the basement suite to do some laundry.# K: Z3 Q1 ~; O* p! b% X

Wayne said his dog began barking and eventually led him to the body. He and his girlfriend called police after they saw a small hand in the bag.3 j1 [9 W( X! i9 z+ y& k+ I

Police said the girl's body was wrapped in towels and placed in a plastic bag.) i- M& E, A! q9 a

The charges neglecting to obtain assistance in childbirth and committing an indignity to a dead body both carry a maximum penalty of five years.7 R7 i6 o* e" C4 O
