Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
" m; V. [+ B- F: p/ W( yMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule1 e, Z$ Z4 s! a$ y/ g
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about) s. V8 E5 r: d
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
% Q' O, Y! C& |! Imanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;1 e+ R0 u0 B. _# \0 ?
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
: ?& B6 M8 e/ p6 R# E" U+ C5 m" |( U% n$ A. A
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
4 A( h; a: f* ^3 @* |! g; k" }to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
' `; \& c3 h" Tcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
& E/ @# S6 n& C% r# Sreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
& q0 n/ R/ t! L4 X/ V0 t; H9 dresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
' U& f8 G& z2 v4 {) C2 Wimportance of composting and recycling.

, {/ S0 v4 t8 D) CExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
* ]( z) e" y& L8 UReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
3 l1 J6 e1 a4 z3 }public education display booths; assisting with programs and2 W5 K4 U- L4 ~7 M8 J- C, U
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
) H+ Q6 q5 Q2 g9 a/ z# Bvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school' G: y- N& t, P3 z
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
- q, r F V/ nvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the8 A4 k! u! p) G# F, v
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
' k3 P& \1 R/ p4 kknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
/ L2 j6 s# W+ |Composter-Recycler Volunteer!) a" b8 @' X% G* i3 ` [+ D

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
0 U/ S( y+ r# K* c-Saturdays all day - for three consecutive weeks.
