Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

9 z4 W# s. j# s" |6 x, p: U* ZDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the- B" H4 H+ r3 a8 Q
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule# A1 `2 x. D9 s, ^8 w- J* r0 f
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about7 d0 ^9 l z) u. o9 S( A
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste5 a4 x" v n6 D7 q& M: `( _
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;9 Q% E! Q; g0 y7 X
vermin-composting and residential recycling.* [/ I' H% h+ [* T1 ?6 O
: N9 B& t! y% ]( ~! c6 v6 J3 L0 T/ dThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
8 @/ n1 _: `, e2 I) p: x6 Zto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
. k5 ^6 v; Y% ~4 ]complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:* @5 ?! }1 d' B9 I1 z) k1 |
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
" K6 l3 S5 n$ u# E9 _( Nresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the% L2 t. R% G2 b3 y
importance of composting and recycling.

9 n$ V' g8 P) o2 ~Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
& x9 c! W9 w0 hReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;6 h' x' r; T7 j" K
public education display booths; assisting with programs and2 |2 [( `1 T, w" A$ d( \0 R- w; D
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at. Y" @% ]( ]4 ?; _ |
various demonstration gardens and general public and school+ x5 I" ^# b$ H+ A! q
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
