Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!4 A) Z0 T8 i( ?; w2 g7 J( z+ }

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
( |7 p7 ]' @" F, n6 Q6 qMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule% V8 L) e( _* R( S, E2 a
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
. f1 y$ j0 w$ ^+ {6 Nenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
$ x/ `& m) |8 o2 \management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
4 }1 e; H9 @- d' A$ Wvermin-composting and residential recycling.$ U3 x. t$ u; D$ ?
/ E# Y" U" M$ t4 R
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips( n- A2 ~8 }6 \5 f6 H) F: Z
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
) A& A( H" W/ u7 Fcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:# h% ?6 R% h1 j p, C# \% J
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
8 R5 G8 ?5 z' ^# X* S. mresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the+ V v4 v" k( S
importance of composting and recycling.
" j* |( v+ k4 S. {$ e8 X+ x
7 Y& e) M9 x( M) w6 _3 QExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
# ]# G# T, G7 k# ?5 CReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;) J# I( K& C5 I% l
public education display booths; assisting with programs and+ N8 Z( R$ v& W% ~) b
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at* u9 p4 l9 M6 r4 j T
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
" }! S$ V. g# U+ [; [ U% {# k. Epresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and+ H/ L( E7 P( M& _
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the4 e1 C& s3 v# ~ t0 i7 A

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
