Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

" t, t, z& T- j9 s$ q& nDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
, g8 ?* b# z! K4 Y% B" IMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
7 L5 c6 |. A/ b/ h+ i( j2 T! ~(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about# C' k# j, n9 H; b6 e! L, K' `# P
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
! }* v: q% V$ |2 j7 I5 }) Z3 Jmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
, P6 {6 E# u) m2 @4 f, \vermin-composting and residential recycling.
3 a: R L1 {3 Y% c. y# b' Y7 b7 p- |2 E
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
: T# e O4 P% p0 K8 } N( S7 h+ t$ ^to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
3 E* Y- e9 O/ `4 ?1 Dcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:; }. e/ X V1 k! Q5 }4 J
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
d4 [! j. |+ T5 |4 [% o( Mresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
8 E7 ?0 W" g" E8 |" ^& Mimportance of composting and recycling.

, K6 K3 H3 ]$ S( b' A5 g7 dExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
' K$ }5 Q4 k P% s1 U1 z! t& G( hReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;+ U |: t4 r5 \0 X, y! O: W
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
) T% l! Y1 k. U" N% u* m: nmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
. G, G4 [0 V! J& ~0 U4 J8 M$ v$ evarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
" d) F# W: f7 q- L. Upresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and" S, \8 d+ G8 q2 \2 Y3 \4 Y) H2 `
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
