$ ]0 v% ]3 }% m# lDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the7 C. c: V3 t) O) @
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule/ r r/ v4 ?4 e8 n! N/ d" N
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about, a) s; L9 q9 O
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste$ e* [5 s( m1 m: ~% q* p. n
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;) e9 C; N( E) Q9 Z1 h, ], |
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
! p7 n$ H+ n' M$ f
7 M3 i4 a) s" |; ]This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
! e3 q" K4 j* p) O5 _# kto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates+ ]! K) Q6 S8 ~; s. l
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:* o7 M' k5 h& T
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important8 b( t& _! b! K+ o% F3 n1 u {: ?7 Z+ W P
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
9 Y2 p, w# m5 G+ V8 p" v, j% Pimportance of composting and recycling.

# y ~; F8 ?2 e' i( A% I9 f0 gExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
+ L3 F' R9 T4 u) f5 kReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
0 e- D5 _9 y( e/ }+ g+ Q2 p, B6 b6 Apublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
$ C6 m5 n3 [# Q. Z0 l7 Hmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
1 D) w2 H% f$ y5 Wvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school E5 T3 |9 h |
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and3 V$ I0 G; i% e& c1 M2 `
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the$ W5 H" A/ e! @* a Y$ a4 G
