Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!5 t/ L( _! L4 o& |% l0 Z) e
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch. S6 J9 X5 }6 f2 |' ^% ^9 r

6 |% N! K& N' k5 bDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
% I! P' V$ R0 ]0 D* A) bMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule; n* E: s9 ]* M; T! S B# q
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
& H0 s4 I% j2 ~ v0 S# {environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
0 N3 b. J. q! o1 s* {5 ?8 k: Z8 omanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;! ]3 `0 ^& M9 w6 P9 W/ z- q+ K
vermin-composting and residential recycling.1 T$ B5 {2 S& O1 [& R& u1 o
/ e$ v) Q5 s" v& S. bThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
# S( Y+ S+ M1 Y/ l* H U J6 Sto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
8 r! P( S& w' W: c8 ], scomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:4 e9 S) L1 r! V! w# ~
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
+ I: A4 D# I& k& {: rresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
! D/ p) }$ A* ?5 q* [/ I5 I6 Q0 r* uimportance of composting and recycling." W* T( D0 f/ _9 y- d

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
2 b- Q* C; \! {$ `% ]: Z4 r0 D4 C# k, CReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;1 b+ b1 {2 F1 h* M' ~$ e& q
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
9 z% v' R1 Y0 Umaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at4 Y, i8 N7 M3 k3 o) M4 ?
various demonstration gardens and general public and school1 ^) K5 ~0 t4 E- l7 p6 f8 r
presentations. T, {! z5 \: q0 r9 Q) ^

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
# w& u7 s" q+ F- [% t9 G0 Avolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
0 }4 _* L! M" T p& ?most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
" }. q/ _" ~3 Q5 G/ z0 {( \/ tknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
