Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free! m% y6 y/ K+ r
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch

/ T6 \3 \; s X5 W# _Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
! O8 d' }0 _9 O0 c2 wMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule6 P1 ]- }, j7 Q' ~
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about. P, b* u$ G; a) ^
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste; ?9 J6 P" a2 J6 s, x! K* X/ m+ v
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
' l8 B/ j& E9 h4 [1 Qvermin-composting and residential recycling.
' x5 o8 [: g; H+ w; y
# t5 ~& ~1 g: q1 b1 x! L+ kThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
" O9 E- x* I: g7 ~' F- vto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates* N, q4 j1 H V, R- {$ r
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:; s) C; i: S. i( C9 a* o
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
% N9 j# `/ o% \) G& m! wresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the& T% ^$ h" [$ U- s
importance of composting and recycling.
. j# {, M& R9 q M2 g. i" A& K" u3 Y6 j8 t# d7 I8 j) o
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the: d5 t; g9 E' W# n7 P+ h' t5 E
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
, i( ?- r# b3 i" i7 ppublic education display booths; assisting with programs and- w% D& ?! Z+ W) G8 L! \% i' c
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
$ [7 _( N/ j( ^5 i7 ?various demonstration gardens and general public and school
' |* K; G5 _$ X/ Dpresentations.& [/ E) u# _# z; N `) u
. _$ S& ~3 _# a! K: t1 T YThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and9 P7 j ?/ |6 d8 S# H
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the* I; l5 b; u! L8 {2 ]
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your+ R# }2 y0 p! B* c. H0 U
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
