In the speech Michael Ignatieff says supporting the oil sands is a question of national unity and no country in the world would ignore such a valuable resource.

Mr. Ignatieff warned, however, that the controversial megaprojects that have sprung from the oilsands must become greener.

he called for Canada to work with oil sands producers and the United States to create a common system to cap greenhouse gas emissions and trade carbon credits.
