Duties

# N  k- ~$ Y% K' L0 N5 r3 S- U6 \    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
# V  y. {" Y- ~) {    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group$ t- b) @% q7 a' m( f0 m: f
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators0 f/ L1 T4 u" O
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations" R2 r5 B" i! h3 [
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director& p: [, O1 G& P: A: H2 t
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses3 Q+ v" n' m. v" b3 a
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
  [8 ^3 ^2 i. i$ T4 S" N1 N/ e    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
- [3 @) D0 R0 V4 x1 c    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment0 U# K& n+ a4 Y% L. o7 p
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports9 B- P% |# S0 f( J# R: M5 Y8 J- w8 O+ _
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
6 g) H" H; C  x# }( H* H    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly% n+ C+ l" L! L+ ~" t% Z$ F
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities& b& l5 o  T4 |4 `5 J* b
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications
% Y0 b9 R& S- \- k& k
$ K0 E- E# I% q$ C/ B: E/ O& j    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
  a3 @' l/ w5 v+ j4 t" U    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
- M& u, I4 \* |. e4 ?4 P- T    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
: I8 m* k& {0 X4 R    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs, M$ Z4 e! R6 I- H& _
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community! T3 P1 r5 m+ c) J; U4 q) C7 s
    * Fundraising skills an asset
9 J: {" @' v2 B    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

5 k3 F& M' b3 g    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills, H9 h: ]) h0 v
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
1 @6 }+ w0 j" V) D8 `1 w% n    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset  a. ~' R& b# `  M8 V
