Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region" G4 y5 u) |  f1 V, J# j
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group2 d1 @2 y( H8 z$ |! R* x. ]6 Z: e
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
" Z: \3 u7 m+ B: A4 H& e    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
( B3 v! h" C5 J% a- |( ~# u& G! g7 ^    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
7 J5 y4 |- y6 n) j7 h    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
/ m9 F& ]+ T6 v) R8 B    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
; P0 P6 c3 p6 K# ]2 [6 [- n    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program5 c) H9 \/ O$ y$ w* p/ P
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment8 @. r9 Z) I& U1 p' \) S
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports! h" O" O5 y/ L1 v& ?* d- L; g
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs) a2 q9 |+ Z$ m, M8 w" |1 ]
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly. a# e2 g# V! a( I9 L& v
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
- ^* c2 ?- _* W9 p8 k- x0 r# x    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications
7 y: u; A  k* p5 d9 T
' n% E( H) v& y( @4 v    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline$ c: I7 A7 D8 c
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth0 C) _' r4 O  A' ?$ u
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
4 i9 g, o  Z' P) c7 c" {    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs9 i" v! Z2 Q" P! J5 y/ J
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community; w3 j5 B8 {9 L+ o! O- J4 W3 O
    * Fundraising skills an asset
- D4 K* D2 z4 c! a4 u) ]4 B- ^    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

- R+ D: o4 z* I" G" `    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills, b6 J1 \/ d9 e1 x
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills
6 M- c4 G. a& q! P# @) f) y    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset2 {. c2 K( [! y" J
