I do not think Firefox is faster than IE. There are more viruses to IE just because it's more popular and Firefox is pretty new. If FireFox occupies 80% of the market, who knows what will happen. It's nothing about ActiveX technology. There is nothing that is bulletproof.; o* D9 g# p& L/ d4 B7 X" Z

For whatever reason, Firefox should be safer, I am not saying faster though. But spyware/adware can make your computor very slow. Check you folder:- r, Q! g; @" N& n6 b

If you do not like the activeX, in XP, you can just disable it in the IE configuration. 1 u4 y' l$ q( N1 R 8 R- {0 `$ K, f- o9 M) N7 NI am using Mozilla in my Linux and IE in my XP. Besides the muti-tab feature, they are almost the same.
