7 ]0 T' ?0 D/ g* o9 _As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.
, q1 l# r; X/ a# d! a/ z; L; X
* k7 M& `. p1 AReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:" N- t4 k- B. M; L' N, P0 }
•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
# {2 d7 F7 M, Y& D8 ?# }7 u2 {% ^•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements; R; Y: i( d' |
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
& N; L' S9 U* O2 V" C•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
6 j3 u* w! U$ o/ R. ~6 t" ]# {  c•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers ; n' S. g6 ^# k
Job Requirements:  . y/ C$ q4 }, N# N0 X
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
9 U4 r, K7 ]: K- L3 H•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
. C  _1 U: P/ @8 m7 x  f: V$ s•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
; a$ I$ r! Q( \9 g( g! `/ r•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
- o/ _' l5 X( N+ `1 f5 H+ u8 o•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
/ {. c0 n) v5 C$ V•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
9 G4 t& l; u6 R3 w•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST, q  M7 g- ^$ O. X
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills* h: C4 n* E% F- }* }
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. ) f( B4 w( n  x
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.8 Q: U; {. r; N7 z* C5 g
Salary:  $27.00 hourly$ b( P1 `3 Q& k8 S
