As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. . Y. c- d) J% b9 r( Z+ m. ) R7 R5 k0 K1 c* L: F; ZReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
/ `$ k# J% Q2 v9 j1 T• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
0 @2 ^" S+ w$ r2 m$ L! h0 z• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
- E. a" d/ [. h+ T) k1 `9 K• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module! `& o5 j' [+ R4 _, S# J) Q# r
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
* Q! ^0 b* k( G) S. Z• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

) C- Z' q. i( a! j! U% z• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
1 V$ W5 C/ y& w• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
: S# {3 R6 h2 ]• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience% C0 u# {: a' H
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems% a' S; u' l# _+ n6 e
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets* E. G3 K' q; k+ ]: b+ N
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies1 B8 f6 n+ y$ O- D$ Z# C
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
/ G( X K: D: o! I• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
x) \1 _4 k1 f0 c3 HHours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
