As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

M/ X9 nReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
$ W; o' G* W7 k2 U4 j• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
. l% @5 s9 g# i/ c' X• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
! s+ S, u, v2 Y) J R1 F• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module0 j7 z/ k! m0 W! c
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's

Job Requirements: : q- @2 A! o8 E c, ?
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
2 [$ V1 o5 ]) d( v) Q+ i- q• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset5 n( ?3 Y5 O" l d/ R: E
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
. e$ [5 W6 Q1 E: @9 B2 j& x• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
' w" X3 U; L( w% G• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets! X/ `- g$ k& t G4 t1 Y6 d0 W4 Z9 ^
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
