' @5 a, u$ X, r% Z, t: hAs part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. * t* u# `9 A: b* O

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
; r4 ~1 Y8 V w9 @• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
7 S; u' |" b: t/ M9 {2 s• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements7 Y. ]1 X1 }1 ?0 h
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module9 z/ Y# ~- `7 S
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's

Job Requirements: - |4 L5 Y# G) B
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline4 T3 V4 n2 t5 m& }$ h; z5 z+ ^5 Y
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset( l6 j, M% |+ [, v4 x
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
' T+ v i' a$ L, n% I) O• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
( Q( e* V- s1 {& F9 M. a1 `• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets: B; N) p+ `8 p r/ u
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies$ S$ _0 R9 j8 N( b
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
; c' H! o5 B, q L• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
" v( r) ~9 R8 H# O& e- oHours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
