As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. * m( r1 V# @4 j& b* P1 U9 t

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:; g2 F1 I7 c# @2 M, T" e7 y
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
1 }3 H( t1 W* Z& l; h• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements6 e$ J4 G3 L3 q0 q9 ~) u6 M8 D6 Z+ D
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
* i+ m2 S3 Z/ N* p. G• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's

Job Requirements: 8 @0 e1 k) B3 Y+ U
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
- a5 E* k) ?8 I; T. F! a• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
& w. w6 }8 V6 e7 e. Y/ z• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
" A4 L' `' D" q, Y9 U• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
2 B% L4 @4 B/ R7 ]• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets9 A! x. V; t1 g( U$ x0 Z% I
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
0 S4 }$ b* Z r: T• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST: ^+ X% j; h7 g8 F
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
$ B9 T' j m3 b, F8 S! _- s0 cHours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
