The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

7 Y9 A1 q: c! XResponsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
  ~$ t/ w& D. i( X6 A! A7 u3 O• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
) e9 U4 ]. x4 n- \• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
' K9 G/ M4 B& n( p7 \3 F, F• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

' l; h7 r, m. \1 i! @, w( j2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

% r+ ~  N* B' i* b& |• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

9 t  {, Q" i& d4 e0 _+ ^Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

+ a1 B7 w. I# k; B  [This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
