Edmonton housing prices slide further

' h5 @; \1 i% ]' o# C& Y2 z8 l( LContractors' selling prices fell in Edmonton by 1.1 per cent in March 2008 from February 2008.

On a year-over-year basis, Edmonton house prices slowed their pace of growth for the eight consecutive month.

Growth of new house prices throttled back to 13.5 per cent in March 2008 compared with March 2007. The prices are for the Edmonton census metropolitan area, which includes regional communities such as Beaumont and Stony Plain.

In Calgary, prices rose 5.3 per cent between March 2007 and March 2008, the agency said.

) _0 U/ \/ ^7 r1 `! w4 m, [ t"Edmonton and Calgary continued to experience slow market conditions," Statistics Canada said. "Builders in both cities reported lowering their prices to generate interest and stimulate sales."
