bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
0 m u7 u4 q( h" ~% y# remployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day/ m% j; j7 f& {. ~0 f4 U
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that& W9 Y; G: ?5 @) ?
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
8 i8 F: m; U! ]+ uYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
' P, s7 k8 H! w/ ~4 Xmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve! Y, ]. `- X, |( q
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
6 q4 t+ r5 X$ G# `* WVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
- P( F5 `: D5 U/ r; D* J, q. P1 Fnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
/ Z9 v! h- o6 d4 s. R/ U4 n, d% N kyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose- c. O. Z1 ?" L, Q9 y6 h
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
/ b! a& R4 Q9 M8 O+ M2 M, y7 tdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
, B0 w- a! T% k: U: u6 B5 qexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
' n8 w- ]8 U% kwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a) l2 X- ]4 P- O/ x2 y' X
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.5 _! Y& y4 U) d0 N
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
* s8 z! T% ]; F: FYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
( V2 l, P/ V9 s0 d. {8 AThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
4 ~5 f8 D3 c- t2 s) Qextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
7 p/ U6 ?; } \ N• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the. y9 M+ e6 U2 @( y% m9 W
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are5 r2 x1 w- ^2 f& @
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
$ u0 B0 v& D4 H( M+ j: u8 p" h8 D/ r• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
0 Q9 n9 n1 \! s# a# k- lbeing realistic to each youth participant$ I$ Y1 ^8 L @7 ~" _# I3 Q1 O
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the/ f2 u9 ?: j) y) Q* ?3 v$ ]' E
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to( w Z d7 g) Q8 ]
each participant
" l+ X% K. M* H8 I8 @ N9 w• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
3 o+ I0 F. v( d# tcover letters and resumes etc. l$ b0 o3 W% B% x- H" h+ M, d
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work* r+ D. h1 o% }& K; t _5 f/ F& j# y
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the& g- B7 F$ q4 {6 s
placements
W- I. N, U; w• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
% ?5 o, e# ?9 Z+ G; f* a+ Q ]the process, and supporting the youth where needed
+ ^& n. ^- V2 e8 \6 A# m• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach9 M* u2 ~3 E3 p+ O/ i
is being fulfilled for each youth
. t5 w3 A! F% M- M8 k* Q* U• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are6 b! K- j+ i: s I6 [* S" j
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer- l- H( J5 o0 U; V* s1 [
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted6 y* I1 A% k5 B' Y: S
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
