& m/ K# c& A* A1 i* iThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
) r2 t- e+ Y: P: N- r1 Demployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
( o2 x) x* b, ?$ ?YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
; c2 B1 I# f! u# k3 }8 Amission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
% Y8 \& ^; \& n1 l; G4 ^* Qconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
+ _& e" S" W; e4 s, S/ k* Z" mnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
7 b" S( T) z% @1 ]: i& Tyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
2 ]4 _, Q+ C! s6 ~( d+ nparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
/ J. Y! R, q9 ]' B* hwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
# W& n( u$ A( y$ @6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
4 a% m& |7 a' F! v% \YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
9 X4 S0 [: A+ yThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

7 Q: ~7 {5 G( H3 c, x• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
: T4 Z+ a5 |9 _+ f: S• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
8 \$ M2 H- B/ `  j1 L9 {, @being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
& o6 A# h5 ~( y8 Y" z& K& |) C  x- Kyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
5 y" W/ X  o5 \• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
1 O+ X0 [: d+ A& R7 y) W) s5 Aplacements
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
5 u" w/ C) m4 i! \3 y  C0 r• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
! v3 F0 f/ e6 Z% U% [: l$ F. z6 Xis being fulfilled for each youth
% y% {7 ^8 R( X1 r• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
% r2 q8 V+ T% {5 e  n, ]. N9 R/ Erelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

at risk as it pertains to employment
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
