employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
: F. p( a9 k3 f; e2 P0 {( Nprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that. d, [$ k& x, @! w% g
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.0 ~& k: b3 m8 k1 w% ~4 a
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our: [0 x ~6 \5 D! @: x
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
1 _, w; Q! s. _- p7 ?conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the6 `4 R; {/ d" C8 S8 G9 m
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills* K6 A7 L! X- \! _* y
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
/ X" I$ q$ n3 O8 E$ vyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
0 i4 v$ }! h8 D& qparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment- P% N, T; D- T, d' F: I
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and9 `3 I. w0 `' D2 P& L7 I: M. C) t0 o" V7 Y
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and9 b( D/ ~ q' P* T6 d/ g- G9 K4 m
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
7 e; z6 S T" ?) G6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.8 B5 I% E1 t) s6 V7 }5 q. O
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
* ~) \$ G8 ]0 v2 ?2 l' qYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
9 t. N# C8 F8 MThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

* o8 t" ], M; k1 r' Z. a# DEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)# c Z( M1 Q* g
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
5 X. `9 M+ @- J% xcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are7 N+ H9 Q2 I" G) J) M
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
7 r; A- j) }0 K/ ?8 S; I• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as3 g8 z6 T5 T; _4 ^
being realistic to each youth participant5 O q, W( M* d7 g) Q8 G1 {
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the' z2 c2 z. t, I5 Q* k- K0 Q
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to$ I+ ~! f- C) E
each participant
; z5 H* A# C$ s2 K• Assist youth with employment development including the development of/ _8 `. b" x. m" V+ f6 z
cover letters and resumes etc.
; e. Q+ U6 @/ l, U) [) y% m• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
0 ]% x) y" Y4 nexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
1 q# e1 l( @5 r4 \6 gplacements( k9 |) S0 }1 d
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
" k* s0 i+ |& C% Z3 k- l# S# [7 kthe process, and supporting the youth where needed6 H- ]8 `' X: Y6 r# [4 @
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach) ^- A! t" I) l# J
is being fulfilled for each youth0 q7 K- W1 x; Y W2 u5 x
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
# l$ ]+ F. G; `* w' b$ k2 p+ Prelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
$ N. ^& `8 y4 c$ W8 H# x3 {5 \' Y Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted' g9 w: |+ y: c: R
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
