The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will* O& ?2 ?* l& y! _9 b H: c$ R
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
$ L8 B, [& H( w) B5 K2 Q* z- d3 qemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
/ I, s0 V5 E6 i2 X, h$ j; pprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that8 {$ {8 H- c. ~3 ?$ o
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
" h; X$ A0 l! RYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our0 J: K n% Q y* Z9 @$ _: w
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve& v$ E# ?/ B7 A3 p3 U! p
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the0 a6 N" A0 {* Y" g6 r7 @
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills' }+ i7 R- N, ^. j
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve$ L/ J8 a9 D5 g6 G
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose9 b: y6 M; Q t8 ]8 a6 J3 n# t
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
8 C6 y6 C, G; w4 K1 Jdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
1 [ X" r0 }- R7 jexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and u- R2 K9 g' E& }% V( Z% O2 B
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
2 r. c8 ~- X0 z0 [8 t; O9 Y6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
& O4 t0 I$ G- a& t8 zThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
3 R1 @- Q* M. wYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.5 R) {0 J* Q, V1 {
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)# c) a8 J! C+ [+ _2 k+ o ]6 ]
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
& X6 n1 p; i6 [& ?/ y; mcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are5 X/ L* R0 n+ \$ I
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
4 b) Z3 [) S% k• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
: ~- ^2 S! j- E* q0 a7 w2 |: Vbeing realistic to each youth participant
8 @" r$ _7 L! l0 G• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the9 Z7 v0 q! W9 n2 e) X3 R
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
# J w6 Y7 x9 leach participant
& g! z5 {% c( n. H( [- H! R4 p• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
5 t: X: n# a# [cover letters and resumes etc.
+ d% o3 L" b7 N: W1 c# D• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work4 R! D ]7 h- ^0 Y: p0 w
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
& \* K5 @, C& K! `$ ?$ P, O l6 N. ^/ splacements1 S: ~. B5 ~0 j+ i ]
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating7 f$ O: z6 C4 |2 ?3 ~
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
+ ]2 A W% w" d• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach, s+ q! ^* ?$ \
is being fulfilled for each youth$ w/ l: y3 m! r% m" }" F& E; ]; Q V0 P
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
2 t% Z* p3 R) ~- l$ p# {related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

p4 f6 z; p6 @! B6 Y* d6 s Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
