The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will/ x& `/ n' Q4 ?% j+ V
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
O' j g" ]8 K) _1 l: |4 P$ V) Pemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
+ g, m$ N7 K9 u& e/ U6 uprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
+ r1 M' J1 x: ^4 \# Z2 e- jstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.% X4 s( ?" m3 ]* F' [6 P& N- @1 \( C* {
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
# H/ Z/ t) q% H9 O% h' q3 emission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& `, T9 o& j; d6 b# d0 P3 Kconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
3 u. F2 n6 X! }- `* u8 {$ T. TVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
% f; j' Y: i! |# K! Q5 Rnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
" Z% d# C- T" k7 f+ d8 [youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose) v6 N# Z1 v! o/ G1 O
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment+ [8 O8 s0 i) i4 k- R
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and& |6 ~1 A& _ V, p) u& I; q
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and# I9 d' ?+ s/ C8 R% l! M* N
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a; [0 B. z' X; O. T
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.- G; Z5 _# I2 s5 D& M' C
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central! z8 _+ S+ F- m
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.7 @/ Z$ w+ P! J- W( x' P7 K p
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of2 q% p% ^( k2 N' {6 E

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)9 f. h$ s: B- f0 o1 X
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
$ w4 m! i* A- E( U' P2 {# h8 dcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
5 R8 \" b. Y) g# Swilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities* u& J/ K; F$ i/ A1 G! X: n) t
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
, A# _1 k; R9 X- ?being realistic to each youth participant# h/ j0 F( _& y- X8 z
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
- X' P$ X9 }! v. e( v0 Zyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
' O9 D) p0 W. B5 F4 ieach participant
0 Z6 |! j( A4 A9 G' ]: i• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
, ]% l; T0 G9 |% kcover letters and resumes etc.
% E5 ?: |5 |3 }• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
7 w1 N) s; r; h( @) R) L# Aexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
1 t/ R& Z+ _, g- {0 |9 M; Y% qplacements! l& ^3 W# u& Z0 \7 l
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating ~3 p- G0 J& Q% U+ A7 s5 E
the process, and supporting the youth where needed1 j( Y6 F' E3 j
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach, Y5 h* v3 a) j* x F6 U
is being fulfilled for each youth; j" U) Q# U. X0 j! E" c5 M5 d
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
o. b9 l. O) orelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted% p; Q. Q" O& P
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.! @% {9 ~. R2 D: V2 D
