The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
6 A7 ^2 j3 w9 j9 S" semployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
2 E) k! X' q, X4 BYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
( H0 B5 |! i- U" B( E+ O" fmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
, q5 O4 |( w; M6 M5 t# GVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 y! f2 _: G) T2 N! g$ `/ ?necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
9 a0 p. I- M% B5 c. B8 l6 zyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
1 q9 k* m+ `& }7 {development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
3 n) X* f1 J6 {) Wwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
# `# U0 ~8 V1 S4 D! L; K6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
! X' T( n3 n' h* z, A5 x0 AThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
0 t3 ^; C1 Z/ \: Y5 wYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
3 Y4 F0 P- B5 H7 M4 D' q7 }The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
- U# d3 k/ J& q: q2 textension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
: _$ H! q# F6 Z6 `3 c; x& o• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
3 k! h$ F4 z: \9 M9 vwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
/ g/ j& [6 _& w3 Q, ?5 f- r• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
$ a9 C; z' O& x, y, d" Y• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
0 }" h0 b! t# T/ m/ Ueach participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
2 V! k, T' g* N5 e# r1 v• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
8 t3 L8 M0 V9 fthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
6 j( I2 r: I9 S/ v: }4 e) @• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
& {) X3 c/ g7 |2 P1 K• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
; }  _% Z: A" V5 `0 y; Y' yrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
9 u( |1 ^( J+ L7 D/ X8 Z4 }/ X Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
1 r; @+ n0 }" R& a( Z* d) V& D  b A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
+ M+ \2 L$ W& \6 i: y* k+ hto success.
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
& t  {1 v- v( I1 r: `/ Z Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
at risk as it pertains to employment

 Strong leadership and active listening skills
