The VERTO Project
( T$ A) A% U" j/ g% I* G1 MThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will! }0 Z- V- ?7 ?% j! ]0 y N
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
, ^1 O7 K- O- {/ nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day5 @" @! s+ Z) F: g l2 [5 ~
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that( p' }- \6 B6 b( ?' w2 x
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
' I0 z, g# }/ a* x+ D( R% RYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our4 h; X! n M5 _+ h; [
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
8 ^2 g* u9 R" L7 L( ~/ Cconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the7 x7 ^$ C* K* Q; v6 [3 H/ C5 C
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills& u7 e9 F& ^4 Z' y! h" W8 t
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve) Z; G9 ?3 {* ?. G1 l, y# W& O; n8 l* v
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
& {- i, l% d Aparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment2 O2 C& Q; W' D2 w, c+ F9 E: u
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
j5 y4 m& |7 j5 w: dexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and, n/ y. L m$ _" Z
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a5 X9 N& ~3 K; w0 c% d) F: \
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
& t$ H7 K. q& k, F* m5 V! lThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
" ?& W5 L/ q M' TYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
7 R4 P5 F: n RThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of) }; z6 z9 E9 F/ a! s2 r6 j

2 U$ Q' |; J5 ?Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
. v4 K. R0 `- ~! @# Y9 m' \• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the( y$ J" ~& r5 K# _6 b8 ^
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
0 m% |3 E' \9 d9 G& zwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities! ~; g; a+ p7 Y1 [9 W
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as& G6 L/ `# w" m7 l
being realistic to each youth participant. M1 m: G6 m/ v( t) s' Y+ M
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
a9 |1 X& g; }) jyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to( s" w. I1 b* F% k. U* _
each participant
) p) b+ L5 E( Y' N/ }$ h• Assist youth with employment development including the development of$ t" H; {& E- R4 S
cover letters and resumes etc.
: ?, o/ Q3 b6 f2 E• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work# H0 c8 j8 R9 [ `
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the! c. Y! n7 {7 P( F% ?& |5 d3 n
placements" g% |" Y5 M* f. L
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating( Y/ g1 s% d1 \( K1 j
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
& Q9 h! w* g7 i& q: C6 _& m% [& Y6 ^• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach; ^! P; n4 v/ {2 j/ d) L: I
is being fulfilled for each youth P. r2 I9 k/ L t+ j; a* g
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are

Experience Required: Employment Developer
1 n1 T! k c/ t% o; F Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
4 b h3 e4 U" B" s6 }2 x( a A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
- c5 w3 W C# p! a& V Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed8 L& Z) C- V6 d5 N

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
' R1 f9 f* Q2 w5 s+ G- Fat risk as it pertains to employment6 `2 V0 Q" p2 K' O% K
 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
& V/ ?: n0 g% S. U Strong leadership and active listening skills* @$ i3 {/ Y( _8 T2 u
