CALGARY — Screams filled the air after a 17-year-old teen was killed after being struck in the head with a pickaxe at a house party. 3 L8 \6 Y9 _3 W

Neighbours said about 100 teens were at a house in southeast Calgary when the attack happened in a detached garage about 11:50 p.m. Saturday.

Lisa Poole, who lives two doors down from where the teen died, rushed outside when she heard a lot of screaming. 3 X6 k+ j( T2 \' @

I saw one boy laying there with a pickaxe stuck through the front of his head and some blood on the ground ... I haven’t slept at all and I can’t get that picture out of my head.”

Friends identified the dead teen as Matt McKay, 17. 8 _3 h/ l/ m6 c, C% M; H9 o/ F

Chris Briggs, who grew up in the same neighbourhood and was friends with McKay, described him as nice guy and avid athlete. ( u# O9 n# } r7 Y/ r! k
' e' ]5 e+ A6 u! n5 k2 c8 s“He was a pretty good guy,” he said. “He played hockey with my friends, he was huge into hockey.”
