7 B+ j2 v; k  R% W& o. s3 dGood news. U of A plan to stop increase tuition for students who are recently in U of A. However, they will increase tuition the current students who will go to U of A next year. Sounds fair. I deeply agree.

/ m5 `' Y4 y6 O) JDear International Undergraduate Students,

Yesterday, the Academic Planning Committee of the General Faculties
* w4 m+ g0 Z- Q! N  x2 c/ K8 zCouncil met to discuss the tuition proposals. I have both good and bad
  l) w  h# [7 [: L  C- C: ynews to report from that meeting.

First, the good news. The committee decided to grandfather all current
undergraduate international students from the increase to the
0 p/ k+ Q4 @4 f3 f9 Ydifferential fee. This means that next year, all current international
students will pay the same tuition as this year, plus whatever base
, m: x1 x- W/ a8 [9 I$ Atuition increase that all students face (the proposal calls for 5.75%).
Also, the administration decided to withdraw their motion to increase
: A5 i! j9 G5 q; zthe differential for international graduate students.
0 h& ^) W8 s0 b4 q; U5 a
Now, the bad news. The motion that the committee approved called for an
increase in the international undergraduate differential from 157% to
4 ^& \8 I) z/ J) i* y220%. This will mean that all new international undergraduate students
will pay $15,353.89 (assuming that the 5.75% increase happens). At
least, all new students will know what the U of A is charging in
  i. w& e8 l- [5 A+ O, D7 dtuition before they come and they will not face any large unexpected
increases once they are here.
+ x$ B9 ?& y) m- Z
The Students' Union will continue to oppose both the increase in the
international differential as well as the base tuition increase. I
% s; i" O9 Q, E0 n% W9 Xwould like to say thank you to all of the international students that
have sent me emails, come out to consultations, and opposed this
increase. I couldn't have got the increase grandfathered without your
4 d: o5 x. u* D8 G) Bhelp. Thank you.
