increases the tuition fee by few percent every year and international 2 X/ D1 a* m3 `% a Q% C" B7 P& n
differential fee was increased by almost 20% last year. Add to this, 6 u# Z9 s; @4 e# ?+ u# I7 @* ^8 T
the fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers
- |4 I( y3 W Iand most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were
5 q% ]: F3 l6 hasked to look for a residence on open market.

While the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has 5 u( M4 K' z5 C6 O) s7 m9 H) M
increased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid
' x' Q2 d% I% I( u: U: U& V5 Jexactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
3 f5 s1 P0 V$ g( Jadmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students
6 A0 I, H* J2 W% ]2 J=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after
1 W! C: L2 ~ X6 w/ otuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just + P+ W. H3 O8 U, _! v2 {- i
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
. o% ]' S+ z+ g: W zgetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of 2 J' [8 z) ~( R2 Q7 X8 C
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was
8 z! n4 d: }6 F0 a, x3 aadmitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of - @. y' ] `7 r# y2 {; x% f: V
Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants 5 }% w; d3 i, o
from different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate
! a: M/ A7 C) F4 `& Pstudents are the main pillars of research work at the university.# Z- F2 n3 J I2 B
* t* V% h+ n; e! Y6 oMy objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
7 h/ y' a4 V Q4 e9 R5 wis to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and * F3 M9 }: e9 o. V3 r
especially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take8 s1 L" V9 T3 K, T' i0 O

initiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for
! ~5 C ?2 Z" f* ograduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?1 U! D0 ?, h0 F* T+ y- I
